*To be eligible for a NRC family or senior couple membership the primary member and spouse must be legally married as recognized by the State of Idaho. In addition, only children considered legal dependents ages 18 and under may be included on a family membership. Provisions may be made to place dependent children ages 19 through 21 on a family membership. See the NRC Membership Eligibility policy for details. The NRC may ask for proof of legal dependency or a marriage certificate from anyone registering for a family or senior couple membership.

Nutrition Mini - Gluten-Free Eating

Metabolic Testing

Learn how many calories your body burns in a day to establish a calorie budget, decrease the frequencies of plateaus, and improve your overall fitness with our highly accurate MedGemTM (an indirect calorimeter that measures VO2 and determines Resting Metabolic Rate). No exercise, food or drink (water ok) 8-12 hours and no nicotine 1 hour prior to assessment.

For people who make the decision to eat gluten free as a matter of dietary choice and not a medical necessity, there are many important considerations. This class will discuss these as well as give tips and tricks on gluten free shopping, dining, cooking, and baking. Gluten free samples provided.

fitness Weight Room Age Policy

The weight room is reserved for individuals 15 years and older. Youth 13 and 14 years old may obtain weight room privileges by completing the NRC’s Youth Strength Training Course.

The NRC offers the ZONE for 10-14 years olds and functional training under certain parameters for those as young as 6 years old. Each youth participant must complete an orientation with a trainer and sign a “Youth Training Pledge and Consent” form along with their parent before engaging in training.

The ZONE (Youth Fitness Center)

The ZONE features strength training equipment specifically engineered for youth ages 10-14. Stop by or call the weight room for more information or to schedule an orientation.

Youth Strength Training Course

By successfully completing this 11-hour course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room. This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience.

This class will help increase mobility and independence by improving lower body strength, endurance, flexibility and bone mass, which can help reduce the risk of falling.

Strength Training for Women

This six-week course will cover a variety of equipment and free weights helping you to feel more comfortable in the weight room. youth programs Kids in Action Day Camp-(KIA)

The Nampa Rec Center, Kids in Action day camp program is a great way to keep your kids active when school is out. Kids in Action gets your kids moving in a supervised, safe environment. KIA Summer Program begins June 10. Kids can swim every day, go on field trips each month, and have a different theme each week to explore. They will do crafts, learn new sports, read books, play games, make friends, and spend the summer being active and having fun! Call 468-5858 for more information or to set up a tour to see for yourself.

Lunch

Parents must provide their children with a lunch for the Full-Day program. Parents may choose to purchase a lunch through the Rec Center. Meal is provided by either Blimpies, Del Taco or Pizza Hut. Lock In for Kids

In this one-day class learn information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children. Course includes handbook, Emergency Reference Guide and CD with fun activities and support resources. Beakerz Science Made Fun!

Beakerz science classes offer handson, experiment-based science lessons covering topics from chemical reactions and dinosaurs to magnets and rockets!

Students are introduced to the topic of the day, led through activities and experiments on that topic and give the lesson and activity to do again at home with family to reinforce the concepts!

We teach drawing with a see-touchdo method that all kids can learn from and love! Each session has a different theme this summer. We know children already love to draw – we just take their love a little further by giving them a solid foundation that will turn doodles into confidence-boosting artistic achievements. Sponsored by Pepsi This recreation program is designed to promote participation, development of fundamental skills and fun in a mildly-competitive environment. Practices and games will be held at Skyview Park. All players will receive a T-shirt, cap, certificate of participation and a medal. Players must meet the minimum age requirement on or before June 3, 2019. Programs begin with daily practices (Mon/Wed or Tues/Thur for T-ball) until the season starts. Once the season begins, games will be played 2-3 days a week, with no further practices scheduled. Volunteer coaches are always needed!

Shooting Stars Basketball

Boys and girls in kindergarten and first grade will have fun playing basketball that emphasizes learning skills and sports values rather than pure competition. Each child is placed on a team coached by a parent volunteer. Teams will have one 45-minute practice and one game per week. Practices begin July 8. Games will begin July 11.

Youth Tennis 101 NNU Basketball Camp

The Nampa Rec Center and NNU have teamed up to bring you this three day camp for boys and girls. Fun is emphasized, along with teaching the fundamental aspects of basketball and skill development.

Beginning students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard when sparring and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

Sponsored by Idaho Central Credit Union Ready! Set! Participate! in the Nampa Rec Department’s Kids Triathlon! This fun and challenging event is for kids ages 6-13 and will include swimming, biking and running.

The 3-event race not only promotes fitness but improves your child’s self-confidence as they cross the finish line on their own. A great introduction to the sport, participants will swim in Lincoln Pool, followed by a safe bike and run on roads and grounds of Lions Park. All participants will receive an event bag and all finishers will receive a t-shirt. The transition areas will be in the parking lots and we strongly encourage friends and family to come cheer on these young competitors.

The Nampa Rec Center houses five swimming pools for your exercise and recreational enjoyment. Programs consist of swimming lessons, aquatic safety classes, water aerobics and kayaking. Enjoy access to the Lap Pool, Rec Pool, Deep Pool, and Kids Pool. Open swim times will offer recreational play in pools of different sizes and temperatures. Pools may have limited availability, ask a lifeguard for more info.

Adaptive Swim Lessons

Our Adaptive Swim Lessons are for children and adults with special needs that may not be met through traditional swim lessons. The goal of this program is to provide students with a structured aquatic experience designed to make them feel comfortable and safe while swimming.

Swim Idaho!

Swim Idaho! is a way for lap swimmers to chart their progress, set goals and conquer those goals. Swimming benchmarks are: 102 miles the distance of the Boise River, 425 miles the distance of the Salmon River, 779 miles the distance of the length and width of Idaho and finally 1,076 the distance of the mighty Snake River. T-shirts are awarded at each Idaho Bench Mark. Ask a Lifeguard how to start tracking your laps!

Are you a scout that needs to pass your Merit Badge Swim Test? Come to our open scout night to complete your requirements. Scouts are responsible for bringing sign off requirements and paperwork. Youth Stand Up Paddle Boarding & Excursion

Paddle and glide over the water with one of the fastest growing new recreational sports. Students will learn the basics of paddle boarding with us with two nights of our introduction classes at the NRC pools, followed by an excursion to Quinn’s pond.

Topics that will be covered are safety, equipment, getting started, proper paddle usage, board maneuvers and getting on and off the board efficiently. Students under the age of 14 must be able to pass the swim test.

swimming W.S.I. Water Safety Instructor Course

Jr. Lifeguard Boot Camp

Learn what it takes to be a lifeguard, such as recognizing a drowning victim, how to assist someone who is struggling in the water and how to perform CPR and First Aid. Must be able to swim 25 yards front crawl, 25 yards breaststroke and tread water for one minute. Upon completion each student will receive an American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification.

Ages 11-14 June 6-8 9am-2pm Lincoln Pool $55

This American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course demonstrates how to teach Red Cross swimming lessons and set up lesson plans. If you have a desire to become a swimming instructor, then this is the perfect class for you. Course prerequisites are 25 yards in the following 6 strokes: front crawl, backcrawl, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. If you are unsure whether you can complete the prerequisites, sign up for a skills evaluation. Refund request must be made 4 business days before start of class.

Red Cross Lifeguard Training

This course is designed for experienced swimmers ages 15 and older that want to become Red Cross Lifeguards. Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications are awarded upon successful completion of the course. Course prerequisites are: 300 yard swim using front crawl and breaststroke, retrieval of a 10 pound brick from 7ft of water and two minutes of treading water with no hands. If you are unsure whether you can complete the prerequisites, sign up for a skills evaluation. Refund request must be made 4 business days before start of class.

Join Nampa Parks and Rec for this outdoor volleyball league. Games will be played in a 4 on 4 format at the Nampa Rec Center’s back lawn. Each team will play one self-officiated match on Tuesday evenings.

Spikeball Tournament

Tai Chi Classes

The beginning class covers the fundamentals of Tai Chi including: basic movements, breathing, meditation, warm-up form and an introduction on the Yang Style Short form.

The intermediate class continues with movements, breathing, meditation, the Yang Short form, Yang Long form, fan form, sword form and an introduction to push hands (Tai Chi sparring).

Traditions Adult Tang Soo Do

This class teaches self-confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional.

Clothing and Equipment Beginning students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard when sparring and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

Fall Ultimate Frisbee

Dust off your Frisbees and round up your team to make some frisbee highlight reels. Frisbees will be provided for the games. Teams will play 7 on 7 games on Saturdays starting on August 3 at Liberty Park in Nampa. Join us with Preservation Idaho for a walking tour of the Lower Main Street Historic District. James Castle began drawing as a boy and used whatever he could find – books, newspapers, saliva and soot. We will visit his home as well as the James Castle Collection, both in Boise. The Bishops’ House was built in 1893 and housed the family of the Episcopal Bishop of Idaho. The house, originally located at 2nd and Idaho Street, was scheduled for demolition in 1976 and was moved to its current location on Old Penitentiary Road.

MK Nature Center

Wildlife educators will instruct participants about Idaho wildlife and the importance of the habitat in a short classroom session coupled with a guided walk along the nature center path that follows a manmade stream. The Nampa Senior Center, adjoining the Nampa Recreation Center’s east side, is a wonderful place for seniors to enjoy an assortment of fun activities. Dances, card games, and educational workshops are all available! See monthly activity schedules at www. nampareccenter.org. Volunteers are always welcome! Daily lunch is served Monday through Friday at 12:00 noon. The public is welcome! You do not need to be a senior to enjoy our lunches and/or other activities. Fees: 60yr+, $5 suggested donation; under 60yrs $6 charge; and 12yr and under, $3. Take out meals are available for $6 but must be ordered before noon. The game is played with a soccer ball on the golf course and the goal is to kick it down the course in as few kicks as possible.
