The NRC may ask for proof of legal dependency or a marriage certificate from anyone registering for a family or senior couple membership.

nampa rec center The Nampa Recreation Center is a 140,000 square foot indoor facility offering many recreation amenities to the public. Our mission is to provide quality programs and services, be responsive to the citizens, and play an active role in making Nampa a healthy community.

fitness Weight Room Age Policy

The weight room is reserved for individuals 15 years and older. Youth 13 and 14 years old may obtain weight room privileges by completing the NRC’s Youth Strength Training Course.

The NRC offers the ZONE for 10-14 year olds and functional training under certain parameters for those as young as 6 years old. Each youth participant must complete an orientation with a trainer and sign a “Youth Training Pledge and Consent” form along with their parent before engaging in training.

The ZONE (Youth Fitness Center)

The ZONE features strength training equipment specifically engineered for youth ages 10-14. Stop by or call the weight room for more information or to schedule an orientation.

Youth Strength Training Course

By successfully completing this 11-hour course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room. This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience.

Classes are ongoing and require preregistration at the Program Desk.

Registration for new students for the 2017-2018 school year begins Friday, May 5th at 8am.

Monthly tuition is due by the 1st of each month. Payment can be taken at the program desk. A late fee will be assessed for payments received after the 5th of the month. Your child will be dropped from the class if your account reaches 2 months outstanding.

The Nampa Rec Center, Kids in Action day camp program is a great way to keep your kids active when school is out. Kids in Action gets your kids moving in a supervised, safe environment. KIA Summer Program begins June 5. Kids have the opportunity to swim every day, go on field trips each month, and have a different theme each week to explore. They will do crafts, learn new sports, read books, play games, make friends, and spend the summer being active and having fun! The Nampa Rec Center has partnered with Young Rembrandts for this preschool drawing class giving children the necessary skills to draw more complex images. Kids will draw familiar images such as fish, teddy bears, rainbows and cowboys. We’ll concentrate on the skills of drawing and coloring while we develop fine motor skills, focus, listening, and staying on task.

Sponsored by Pepsi This recreation program is designed to promote participation, development of fundamental skills and fun in a mildly-competitive environment. Practices and games will be held at Skyview Park. All players will receive a T-shirt, cap, certificate of participation and a medal. Players must meet the minimum age requirement on or before June 5, 2017. Programs begin with daily practices (Mon/Wed or Tues/Thur for T-ball) until the season starts. Once the season begins, games will be played 2-3 days a week, with no further practices scheduled. Volunteer coaches are always needed!

Sponsored by Vic’s Family Pharmacy Boys and girls in kindergarten and first grade will have fun playing basketball that emphasizes learning skills and sports values rather than pure competition. Each child is placed on a team coached by a parent volunteer. Teams will have one 45-minute practice and one game per week. Practices begin July 10. Games will begin July 13.

NNU Basketball Camp

This fun and exciting eight week Junior League gives kids the opportunity to get out on the course and compete with other kids their own age. youth sports 5th Annual Kids Triathlon

Sponsored by Tom Scott Toyota and Idaho Central Credit Union Ready! Set! Participate! in the Nampa Rec Department’s Kids Triathlon! This fun and challenging event is for kids ages 6-13 and will include swimming, biking and running.

The 3-event race not only promotes fitness but improves your child’s self-confidence as they cross the finish line on their own. A great introduction to the sport, participants will swim in Lincoln Pool, followed by a safe bike and run on roads and grounds of Lions Park. All participants will receive an event bag and all finishers will receive a t-shirt.

The transition areas will be in the parking lots and we strongly encourage friends and family to come cheer on these young competitors.

Traditions Tang Soo Do

This class teaches self confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others.

Participants will learn age appropriate self-defense and weapons training.

These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional.

Clothing and Equipment

Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

The Nampa Rec Center houses five swimming pools for your exercise and recreational enjoyment. Programs consist of swimming lessons, aquatic safety classes, water aerobics and kayaking. Enjoy access to the Lap Pool, Rec Pool, Deep Pool, and Kids Pool. Open swim times will offer recreational play in pools of different sizes and temperatures. Pools may have limited availability, ask a lifeguard for more info.

Adaptive Swim Lessons

Our Adaptive Swim Lesson Program is for children and adults with special needs that may not be met through traditional swim lessons. The goal of this program is to provide students with a structured aquatic experience designed to make them feel comfortable and safe while swimming.

If interested, fill out an Adaptive Lesson Request form, available on the “Programs” page on our website or at the NRC program desk.

Swim Idaho!

Swim Idaho! is a way for lap swimmers to chart their progress, set goals and conquer those goals. Swimming benchmarks are: 102 miles the distance of the Boise River, 425 miles the distance of the Salmon River, 779 miles the distance of the length and width of Idaho and finally 1,076 the distance of the mighty Snake River. T-shirts are awarded at each Idaho Bench Mark. Ask a Lifeguard how to start tracking your laps!

Open Scout Night

Are you a scout that needs to pass your Merit Badge Swim Test? Come to our open scout night to complete your requirements. Scouts are responsible for bringing sign off requirements and paperwork. Call 468-5777 to reserve your spot. Want to schedule your whole troop? Contact our aquatics supervisor for discounts and scheduling.

Open Kayaking

The Nampa Recreation Center Lap Pool will be available on Wednesdays from 7:15pm-9pm for open kayaking. Due to limited space, reservations are recommended. Call the Front Desk 48 hours prior to reserve your spot. Bring your own kayak or rent one for $2 an hour. An adult must accompany children 12 and under.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification

American Red Cross requirements for recertification are completion of a 12hour review course prior to your current certification’s expiration. Participants will be refreshed in their lifesaving, CPR/ AED, and first aid skills, and provided instruction in the most up-to-date skills and techniques. Red Cross no longer offers challenge courses. Must possess a current lifeguard manual for the first day of class, books are not provided.

W.S.I. Water Safety Instructor Course

This American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course demonstrates how to teach Red Cross swimming lessons and set up lesson plans. If you have a desire to become a swimming instructor, then this is the perfect class for you. Course prerequisites are 25 yards in the following 6 strokes: front crawl, backcrawl, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. If you are unsure whether you can complete the prerequisites, sign up for a skills evaluation. Refund request must be made 4 business days before start of class.

Learn what it takes to be a lifeguard, such as recognizing a drowning victim, how to assist someone who is struggling in the water and how to perform CPR and First Aid. You must be 11-14 years old and be able to swim 25 yards front crawl and 25 yards breaststroke as well as tread water for one minute and float for 30 seconds on your back. Upon completion each student will receive an American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification.

Aquatic Fitness Classes

These classes will include Aqua Zumba and shallow and deep water workouts. The resistance of the water will be used to target all the major muscle groups, increase your cardiovascular endurance and improve your flexibility. Swimming is not required.

Beginning Digital Photography

During this course, participants will learn the basics behind digital photography.

Learn how to use the camera on manual mode, how to set ISO, shutter speed and aperture in order to purposefully create an image. Participants will learn how to read light, and basic compositional rules. During this course participant will be given the opportunity to practice both in class with studio setup, as well as learn how to use natural light on location. Digital cameras with a manual mode are required. If available, please bring a tripod and camera instruction manual.

Tai Chi Classes

Traditions Tang Soo Do

This class teaches self confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional.

Clothing and Equipment Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

Pickleball Lessons

Pickleball is a combination of badminton, tennis and ping pong. It can be played indoor or outdoor on a badminton size court using a whiffle ball and composite paddle. It is easy for beginners to learn and can develop into competitive play for experienced players. Gym shoes required.

Fencing

This class will teach students the theory of modern fencing, coordination between mind and body, and basic and competitive fencing. Softball designed with fun in mind! The level of play is not highly competitive.

Spikeball Tournament

Spikeball is game that mixes elements of volleyball and four square on teams of two players. Tour of EBR-I

Have you ever seen a nuclear reactor? Ever wonder how electricity is generated from nuclear energy? Join us as we visit the Experimental Breeder Reactor No. 1 (EBR-I) Atomic Museum, located on U.S. Highway 20/26 between Idaho Falls and Arco. This facility is the only place in America you can see four nuclear reactors, a reactor control room, remote handling devices for radioactive materials and many other pieces vital to operation of a nuclear power plant. Intro to Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP)

Join Nampa Recreation as we take a trip to Quinn’s Pond in Boise to learn how to stand up paddle board. SUP offers a complete workout and is a great activity for lakes, rivers and the ocean. Nampa Senior Center

The Nampa Senior Center, adjoining the Nampa Recreation Center’s east side, is a wonderful place for seniors to enjoy an assortment of fun activities. Dances, card games, and educational workshops are all available! See monthly activity schedules at www.nampareccenter.org.

Volunteers are always welcome! Contact the Senior Center at 467-7266 for details.

Lunch

Daily lunch is served Monday through Friday at 12:00 noon. The public is welcome! You do not need to be a senior to enjoy our lunches and/or other activities.

Fees: 60+ $5 suggested donation; under 60yrs $6 charge. Transportation to and from the Senior Center is available within its service area. Contact the Senior Center for details. Monthly menus are available online at www.nampareccenter.org.

Gift Shop & Thrift Shop

Our Gift and Thrift Shops are open in the Senior Center from 10am-12:00pm & 12:30pm- 2pm, Monday through Friday.

On site is a modern computer lab where you can e-mail your grandchildren or enroll in a basic computer class.

Come out to Ridgecrest Golf Club to experience the new hybrid of golf and soccer-Foot Golf. The game is played with a soccer ball on the golf course and the goal is to kick it down the course in as few kicks as possible. The game is played with a regulation soccer ball and new holes are established on the course so the ball can sink into the hole. Come out and experience the game! Soccer cleats are not allowed.

Birthday Party Room at NRC

Nampa Recreation Center After Hours Rental

Kohlerlawn Cemetery is publicly owned and operated by the City of Nampa. The Cemetery is open to visitors each day beginning at dawn and closes each evening at dusk.
