The Nampa Recreation Center is open until 12pm on Thanksgiving day! Come and get your LAPS in before your after Turkey naps. Bring 4 items of canned or non-perishable food and receive free entry. In addition, only children considered legal dependents ages 18 and under may be included on a family membership. The NRC may ask for proof of legal dependency or a marriage certificate from anyone registering for a family or senior couple membership.

Tuition Youth Activity Center (YAC)

Hey kids, in your breaks between swimming and basketball, check out the Youth Activity Center or “YAC” at the Nampa Rec Center. Designed for 6 to 12 year olds to hang out with their peers and engage in fun games in a supervised environment. The YAC features X-Box Kinect, board games, foosball, air hockey, craft projects and other fun activities.

NRC Play Center

Supervised childcare while you workout!

Available on a first come, first-served basis, the NRC Play Center provides supervised childcare for children 5 and under by Pediatric CPR and First Aid certified staff. Play Center services are for parents or legal guardians while present in the Rec Center Monday-Saturday 8:45am-1:30pm Monday, Wednesday & Friday 4-8:15pm Tuesday & Thursday 4-9:15pm $2.50 per child/hour (2hr limit/day) Punch Passes are available.

child care & education Kids in Action Day Camp-(KIA)

The Nampa Rec Center, Kids in Action day camp program is a great way to keep your kids active when school is out. Kids in Action gets your kids moving in a supervised, safe environment. Kindergarten through fifth graders stay actively engaged before and after school, or full day care is available too! Transportation is included to and from any Nampa public school with additional $2 charge. No commitment, you only pay for the days your child attends and credits are issued when your plans change if you call by 12:30pm. A $5 late fee will be charged if your child has not been paid for by the end of the day of attendance.

Power Plate®

The Power Plate® oscillating in all three planes creates instability and vibration in the body.

This vibration activates muscle contractions between 25-50 times per second, involving 95% of the muscle fiber. Due to the increase of muscle contractions this type of training can generate more force with ease, enhancing overall performance, improving circulation, reducing soreness, and increasing muscle strength, flexibility and bone density.

fitness Weight Room Age Policy

The weight room is reserved for individuals 15 years and older. Youth 13 and 14 years old may obtain weight room privileges by completing the NRC’s Youth Strength Training Course. The NRC offers the ZONE for 10-14 years olds and functional training under certain parameters for those as young as 6 years old. Each youth participant must complete an orientation with a trainer and sign a “Youth Training Pledge and Consent” form along with their parent before engaging in training.

The ZONE features strength training equipment specifically engineered for youth ages 10-14. Stop by or call the weight room for more information or to schedule an orientation.

By successfully completing this 11-hour course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room. This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience. Classes are ongoing and require pre-registration at the Program Desk.

Small Group Functional Training

fitness 16th Annual Beginner’s Triathlon

Sponsored by Gym Outfitters The NRC presents the 16th Annual “Beginner’s Triathlon,” which includes a 1/8 mile swim, 4 mile ride (upright stationary bike) and 1½ mile indoor run. Ages 13 years and older. All participants will receive a prize.

Whether you are new to the exciting world of rock climbing or a seasoned pro, the Rec Center rock walls have something for everyone. Come climb with us; you’ll have fun and get fit at the same time.

Rock Climbing Guidelines (Top Rope) • Climbers assume full responsibility for their actions while in the rock wall area.

• Climbers younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times while in the climbing area.

• Climbers must provide their own belayer; no belayers under 14 years.

• Lead climbers must provide their own rope.

Waiver Policy (Top Rope Only)

All climbers must sign a waiver, valid January 1-December 31 of each year, to ensure we have current emergency contact information. Waivers are available at the Climbing Wall or on our website under “General Information.”

Rock Climbing Guidelines (Bouldering)

• Children under 6 years old must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

• Shoes are required. No bare feet or shoes with marking soles. Climbing shoes can be rented at the front desk.

• Chalk balls are permitted, but no loose chalk.

• Lockers are available for personal items.

No bags or other items can be kept in the bouldering area or weight room.

• Stay safe! Please report any misuse or problems to the NRC staff immediately.

• Your safety is important. Please climb within your skill level.

Bouldering Climbing Wall

The wall includes nearly 1400 square feet of climbing surface and offers expanded bouldering climbing for all ability levels.

The bouldering wall is for all ages and is open during normal Rec Center hours. It is located in the weight room area, next to the racquetball courts.

swimming NRC Pools

The Nampa Rec Center houses five swimming pools for your exercise and recreational enjoyment. Programs consist of swimming lessons, aquatic safety classes, water aerobics and kayaking. Enjoy access to the Lap Pool, Rec Pool, Deep Pool, and Kids Pool. Open swim times will offer recreational play in pools of different sizes and temperatures. Pools may have limited availability, ask a lifeguard for more info..

Kids Kayak

Kids, come out and get wet while you play on kayaks. It’s free, supervised and a lot of fun!

Open Kayaking

The Nampa Recreation Center Lap Pool will be available on Wednesdays from 7pm-9pm for open kayaking. Due to limited space, reservations are recommended. Call the Front Desk to reserve your spot. Bring your own kayak or rent one for $2 an hour. An adult must accompany children 12 and under.

Homeschool Swimming

The Nampa Recreation Center is proud to offer a fun and energetic homeschool swimming P.E. program. Children of all swimming abilities will be able to participate in activities with other children of similar skills and ages in the swimming pool. On the first day children will be split up based swimming ability and age. During the two hour period each level group will receive a 30 minute group lesson from one of our nationally certified instructors, the rest is open recreational swimming time for the kids to interact, have fun and be active!

swimming W.S.I. Water Safety Instructor Course

This American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course demonstrates how to teach Red Cross swimming lessons and set up lesson plans. If you have a desire to become a swimming instructor then this is the perfect class for you.

Course prerequisites are 25 yards in the following 6 strokes: front crawl, backcrawl, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke.

If you are unsure whether you can complete the prerequisites, sign up for a skills evaluation. Refund request must be made 4 business days before start of class.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding

This course is designed for experienced swimmers ages 15 and older that want to become Red Cross Lifeguards. Advanced skills are taught and information about lifesaving techniques will be presented.

Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications are awarded upon successful completion of the course. Course prerequisites are: 300 yard swim using front crawl and breaststroke, retrieval of a 10 pound brick from 7ft of water and two minutes of treading water with no hands. This class teaches self confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional.

Judo

The sport form of judo uses scientificprinciples to throw, trip, sweep or otherwise propel one’s opponent to the mat. Once there, the same theories apply to control and immobilize the opponent to achieve victory in competition. Nampa Recreation Center is offering a Coed Volleyball League beginning in January. Fee covers eight games and two tournament games. League play will begin January 4. Teams play one game a week with a tournament scheduled at the end of league play in a double elimination format. Adult Basketball League

Nampa Recreation Department is offering an Adult Basketball League beginning in January.

Each team will play eight games followed by a double elimination tournament. All games will consist of two 20 minute halves. Noncompetitive leagues will play on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evenings. Competitive leagues will play Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Teams may be moved divisions after they have played four games.

Game times will be 7pm, 8pm or 9pm.

League play will begin the week of January 4.

This class teaches self confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional.

Clothing and Equipment

Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

The beginning class covers the fundamentals of Tai Chi including: basic movements, breathing, meditation, warm-up form and an introduction on the Yang Style Short form.

Zip Line with Zip the Snake

Join us for a beautiful fall field trip to the Snake River Canyon in Twin Falls for ziplining. Experienced guides will ensure your safety as well as provide historic information about the canyon.
