Never keep the liberation struggle a secret: Uutoni Nujoma Land Reform minister, Uutoni Nujoma says the bravery and determination of Namibian heroes and heroines steered the nation into a new era of self-respect, human dignity restoration, peace and unity. The minister was one of many dignitaries that addressed Cassinga Day commemoration occasions throughout the country. “Our fallen heroes and heroines have unselfishly laid down their lives so that all Namibians, irrespective of colour, may take their place in community and walk tall and proud in dignity because of this selfless sacrifice,” Nujoma told his audience. He noted that many of the Namibian heroes and heroines are buried in unmarked graves in the forests and jungles of Angola, Zambia and Namibia. “We must share the history with the younger generation,” Nujoma urged, adding that this should be the driving force
behind each and every Namibian’s struggle for economic independence and prosperity. He, at the same time, charged that the best way in which Namibians can show appreciation to those whose blood waters their freedom is to remain steadfast in building the nation and to continue living harmoniously and peacefully. Cassinga Day was also commemorated throughout Erongo. Cassinga Day honours about 1 000 Namibians who were attacked and killed by the racist South African army at the Cassinga settlement in southern Angola on 4 May 1978, and those who died elsewhere due to the liberation war. The political leadership of Henties Bay is a well-informed team and will never take a decision that will jeopardise our credibility, we will safe guard our valuable resources so that the community can benefit from all our transactions, of course the proceeds that we are gaining from sale of erven are used to develop this
beautiful town of Henties Bay. Former Acting CEO, Mrs Bianca Nguaiko explained already what transpired and how we are dealing with all the applications. We (as a town) are doing very well currently, in terms of development, and will not allow negative newspaper reports to tarnish our name. Why is Henties Bay all of the sudden in newspapers, simply because we are doing well and people (even reporters) don’t like progressing people or towns, then you will hear them making negative remarks and reports, zooming into the rotten part of the fruit. Why don’t you people report on good things that are happening in Henties Bay, like 200 pre-fabricated houses built for informal settlement residents, 80 houses under the Mass
Housing project, 50 houses under the low-cost housing scheme, a Tourism & SME Centre complex under construction, a new service station, a Woermann-Brock Complex, etc. No newspaper reports on these tangible capital projects, nothing! But in a nutshell - the position of the town is very clear and straightforward, we don’t do favours - neither do we discriminate. We are wholeheartedly inviting investors, not only to apply for residential erven, but also to apply for industrial erven, in order to start their businesses and employ more young people, as we are seriously challenged by unemployment in Henties Bay.” This saga follows after the Affirmative Repositioning (AR) leadership, Messrs Job Amupanda, George Kambala and Dimbulukeni Nauyoma, had indicated

“Namibian workers remain vulnerable”-Ismael Kasuto Mavourlene Gaes The newly- elected President of the National Union of Namibian workers (NUNW) Ismael Kasuto gave a brief statement at the May Day/Workers day celebrations that were held at the Kuisebmond stadium on Friday. Touching on the challenges Namibian workers face the newly appointed President of NUNW Ismael Kasuto, says the workers remain vulnerable and poor 25 years after independence. “The workers are being exploited by both foreign and local companies” Kasuto said. He further stated that the workers are being exploited regarding wages as they are receiving very low wages that still remain visible with the domestic workers, construction

He added that the access to land and housing is also a priority not only to the workers but also to the union. “These are but some of the very long list of problems faced by the workers of this country. The National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) officially announced their union’s selection of a new leadership at the May Day/ Worker’s day celebration held at the Kuisebmond stadium. The leadership was chosen in the Coastal town of Swakopmund during their Sixth Ordinary National Congress. The newly- elected President of the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) Ismael Kasuto described the three-day congress that closed on Friday as a success and indicated that the participants also discussed issues to meet workers’ needs, while the main item on the congress’ agenda was to elect new leaders. Kasuto was chosen as the union’s President and replaced Connie Pandeni who did not contest the position, after he received 134 votes, with Lazarus Nangolo running closely behind him with 131 votes. The position of 1st and 2nd President went to Siseho Stephen with 133 votes and Phillip Munenguni with 126 votes. Barbara van der Westhuizen maintained her position as treasurer with Ndeshihafela Maputa who will be NUNW’s vice treasurer after she obtained 148 votes. Job Muniaro who had been acting SG since the suspension of Alfred Angula in 2013 on allegations of fraud was appointed as the new secretary - general. Angula replaced former
NUNW secretary-general Evilastus Kaaronda who was expelled in 2012. Muniaro is deputised by Tame Sereni. Kasuto said the election was very democratic and done in an environment conducive to electing accountable leadership. “We have established a good foundation in terms of electing capable people to the right portfolios to carry the NUNW forward,” he boasted. The Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation, Erkki Nghimtina, who officially opened the congress on Thursday, said unity within NUNW and its affiliates, is paramount, urging participants to focus on emerging from the congress with greater unity. “Contested elections are normal and not to be feared,” the minister said, adding that the outcome of this congress should not produce winners and losers but a united and inclusive leadership of a stronger NUNW. He also encouraged the union to work with nonNUNW federations and trade unions in a united front to advance workers’ interests in particular sectors where more than one union represents all workers. President Calls for End to Unfair Labour Practices President Hage Geingob has warned Namibian employers to stop unfair labour practices against workers immediately. “Let me make it clear that exploitation is a thing of the past. The word exploitation cannot be uttered in the Namibian house,” was the message of the President at Workers’ Day celebrations in Walvis Bay. In his speech, read on his behalf by the Minister of Labour the President said workers should be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. “Workers are not only breadwinners for their families, but for you as well. Workers should have respectable facilities such as changing rooms, toilets, and designated areas where they can have lunches,
among other things. Workers should feel comfortable, safe and valued in the workplace,” he said. Thousands of Namibians packed the Kuisebmond Stadium to celebrate and observe Workers’ Day with the rest of the world. Geingob lauded the Namibian work force as the key to a better future, and said it was time for them to play a greater role in the
economy, and should also share in the wealth the help generate in local industries. He repeated his state address phrase, that No child in the Namibian house should be denied his or her rights. “It is an injustice when the very people who we depend on to ignite the engines that must propel our nation towards prosperity are allowed to live in deplorable conditions without ad-
equate compensation,” he said. The message of the president was read amidst calls by workers unions’ leaders, that Namibians not be excluded from wealth, that discrimination against and exploitation of Namibian workers be dealt with harshly, and that the rights of workers be upheld. The accident happened around 23:00 on the B2 Road, about 20 KM from Arandis. According to Nam-

MVA Fund concerned about increasing accidents
The management of the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) on Thursday expressed serious concern over the constantly increasing amount of road accidents across the country. A media statement by the MVA Fund management says a total of 128 crashes were reported to their head office in the capital over the past two weeks, in which 19 people lost their lives while 250 others were left battling serious injuries. According to the MVA Fund’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rosalia Martins-Hausiku, among the seriously injured is a 32-year-old mother and her 10-year-old-daughter,
who both reportedly sustained spinal cord injuries and are now likely to face permanent disability for the rest of their lives. She said that two more persons, aged 26 and 30,
are now in hospital with traumatic brain injuries as a result of the accidents they were involved in over the past two weeks, and the long-term effects of these injuries
are beyond imagination. “Road crashes continue to rob our country of its productive citizens. Out of the 250 injured persons, 142 are young people aged between 16 and
35, while 11 out of the 19 fatalities are also in this age group. This group of people is our doctors, lawyers, engineers, actuaries and future leaders,

Obtaining Fishing
Permits
Obtain a permit from the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) to catch fish or dive for crayfish and respect harvesting limitations. WHY? The marine resources are limited and currently some of them are overfished or over collected. It is necessary that everybody uses them wisely and carefully to secure the future harvesting needs by protecting the stock. Quantity/number of marine resources harvestable, minimum size limits of fish and crayfish that can be caught, open season etc. help to manage stocks to avoid the total disappearance of some species in our waters. Do not leave bait or fish on the beach! Either take it home or return it to the sea. This food attracts scavengers like jackals and gulls that prey on other bio-diversity. When you are back home after the holiday, it also inflates the predator population. Where can you get a license for angling, crayfish diving & bait/mussels collection?

“Greed a national headache” - Immanuel Petrus Mavourlene Gaes
The Chairperson of Namibian Seafarers, Immanuel Petrus, pleaded with Namibians to stop being greedy and learn to share. He addressed crowds at the Workers’ Day celebrations in the harbour town on Friday. Petrus said Namibians should learn to share and asked how the country was supposed to prosper if employers were not giving workers the recognition they deserved. “For some individuals, the fish in the water belong to them, we want this greed to stop” he stressed. According to Petrus Namibian workers are being paid less than N$1 000 per month, which he deems unacceptable. “That money is only enough to buy food
every month. Colonialism must stop in our country because we want peace and progress.” Petrus has urged the Union leaders to stop with the division of unions’. “Why is it that our Parliamentarians can sit together and share ideas in order for this country to prosper, but you, our leaders in the unions ,want to divide the workers? It must stop.” Petrus has also pleaded with companies to stop taking advantage of their employees
and to treat them like human beings. Stressing the issue on the lack of funds in the unions, he urged the Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation, Erkki Nghimtina, to consider adding money for the unions in his next national budget. “Please Minister, allocate some money to our unions, for our union leaders to educate the shop stewards. Erongo Pensioners’ Association on the go Marshallino Beukes The Erongo Pensioners' Association, functioning under the umbrella of the Government Institution Fund (GIPF) was established to be assist GIPF pensioners Erongo) in their quest for better living conditions.

The Association selected their first management committee last week and according to the elected chairperson, Mr Seth Manga, they are committed to make a positive difference in the lives of those they represent. During an interview with namib times, he noted that the newly elected committee is a first for the Erongo Region and various projects are underway in order to generate funds for operations of the movement. First on their agenda is to address the local Municipalities, urging them to consider the decrease of basic tariffs on water and electricity for pensioners. Manga also mentioned that their aim is to negotiate with businesses for a type of “pensioners’ discount” on household items. The Erongo Pensioners’ Association furthermore wants to get into talks with the Namibian Government and try to negotiate reduced pensioners' taxes, as well as a possible birthday bonus for pensioners. “These GIPF pensioners used to receive a 13th cheque when they were employed as civil servants, and thus the Government should take a birthday bonus in consideration,” Mr Manga added. After his election as chairperson of the Association, Mr Manga remarked in his speech, “ GIPF pensioners are working tools in civil service, who exploited their youth with dedication and pleasure over 35 years and more to accumulate wealth, which he or she hoped to enjoy today, only ending up being at the mercy of the Board of Trustees of GIPF.”
Meet Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana British royal couple Kate Middleton and Prince William have named their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. The news follows intense media speculation that the couple, officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, would name their second child after William's mother, Princess Diana.
When asked about the couple's choice of name, a spokesperson said: "We'll let the names speak for themselves." Charlotte is the feminine form of Charles, which is the name of William's father. Elizabeth is the name of William's grandmother, the British monarch. The baby was born on Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital in London.

New Princess
Great excitement in Britain - The Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine, the wife of Prince William, gave birth to a healthy baby girl a few hours ago. A Town Crier announced the birth on the steps of the St Mary’s Hospital in London, where a huge contingent of media representatives had been awaiting the news since after 6, when Kate was admitted to hospital. Christoph Kongeni Isn't she tired from all that pushing to be standing yoo she is strong. Just saying. Jennifer Proud Kharises Welcome

Mr and Miss Walvis Bay Crowned Leandrea Louw
"Lights, cameras, action!" The crowd waited in anticipation for the 24 guys and girls who were taking part in the beauty pageant for the titles of Mr and Miss Walvis Bay.
The event in the Walvis Bay town hall started off on an energetic beat, setting the mood for the evening. Artists such as JR Cupido, ‘The Unknowns’, Vicente and Sharron Isaacks brought a whole new feel to the beauty pageant. The artists recreated scenes from songs such as Whiz Khalifa’s "See you again''. The theme for the night was ‘Royals’, and in the opening the ladies wore princess gowns and the guys were dressed as royal ushers. Thereafter the guys first appeared in their sport & career wear where we saw the likes of a basketball player, athlete, construction worker and even an underwear model. The girls appeared in their swim wear and later on in their casual wear. A live band also entertained the crowd during the break. Mr Public Choice was Lucian Bampton and Ms Public Choice was Shanique Louw. The voting for Mr and Miss Public Choice started two
weeks ago on Facebook. Mis Photogenic was Rollinia Shahungu and Mr Photogenic was Jason Swartz. The nine guys were also auctioned off to the single ladies and the guys collected an amount of N$5 400 which will go to a local charity. The reigning Miss Walvis Bay, Monique Smith, also expressed her gratitude to everyone who had supported her during her reign as Miss Walvis Bay and Miss Tourism. The top 5 finalists for the title of Miss Walvis Bay, was Martha Kamukwantaange, Anna Shaapopi, Rolinia Shahuunga, Shanique Louw and Luaan De Wee. The top 5 finalists for the title of King was Anzo Losper, Jean-Pierre Truter, Pablo Ringquest, JeanClaude Truter and Lucian Bampton. They were all asked the same question, namely, if they only had one day more to live, who would they spend their last day with, and what question would they ask this person
- it could be someone dead, or alive. The winners were announced and Lucian Bampton was crowned as second prince, Jean- Claude Truter was crowned as first prince, and Jean-Pierre Truter, was crowned as the King, Mr Walvis Bay. For the ladies, second princess was Luaan De Wee, first princess was Shanique Louw and Anna Shaapopi was crowned as Miss Walvis Bay. As part of her sponsorship, Mary Shikongo, the owner of Face of Namibia, gave Anna an automatic entry into Face of Namibia. The judges, Sakkie Mouton, Lizane Thiersen, Anna Showa, Melvin Cloete, Megan Wentzel, Charmell Pesquiera and Mary Shikongo, judged the guys and ladies on charm, appearance and style. Rumours abound that the winners might find themselves in Italy during September this year. The event was described as Anna Shaapopi, Miss Walvis Bay, Mary a huge success. Shikongo and Mr Walvis Bay, Jean- Pierre Truter

Gratitude for Involvement in the FNB Desert Sport Festival 2015 The recent FNB Desert Sport Festival was an opportunity for us to compete against South African as well as Namibian Schools and was indeed an event full of healthy interaction, friendly competition and excitement. Learners, players, coaches, teachers and parents had an opportunity to build on relationships and to learn about one another on a different level. It is with utmost gratitude that I would like to express my appreciation to the organisers of the FNB Desert Sport Festival, for hours and hours of hard work, to every BOD member sponsor, PTA member, parent, OSA member, learner, coach, medical committee member, and everyone involved who was involved in this wonderful event. Each one made a difference in helping us to present a most successful and enjoyable event. Players, spectators and visitors had the opportunity to enjoy a remarkable festival. The sponsors, including our main sponsor, FNB, have made an enormous contribution to the success of the event. Our utmost gratitude goes to our Heavenly Father for protecting and guiding us throughout the event. With our theme for 2015 in mind: “Imagine—Believe—Achieve”, we have managed to enjoy many special moments, with much appreciation.

The Walvis Bay Equestrian Centre once again has the honour to host the prestigious FEI World Dressage Challenge this year. This is an international competition that will take place on 9 May.
Many thanks to Novanam for their sponsorship and to Roberta for always being there to hand over the "catch of the day". There was only 1 x 2-club from the old master George Muraisiki. The Overall Winner for the Month was M Angula on 69 net - I see his handicap is dropping fast. "A" Div: C De Klerk 71 net, "B" Div: M Heyns 70 net, "C" Div: M Jacobs 72 net, Ladies: B Burns 70 net, Jnrs: L Nande 72 net. Well played to all and enjoy the “feesh. Wednesday Competition 29 April was well supported - with a new sponsor on board Desert Aqua/ Neil McLeod - there were some bottles of wine up for grabs together with a few bottles of his very special water. The 18 hole competition was won by Kevin Wentzel with 40 pts followed closely by Piet Bierman with 39 pts. The 9 hole competition went to Ebie Bergh with a well played 23 pts over the front 9 - what happened on the back 9? I see there is a bit of movement on the Matchplay Board but still lots of outstanding matches - these have to be completed by 10 May. Please guys make a plan. We remind members that the washing of cars in the club car park is prohibited. Ladies Golf has been very busy this last weekend and this has continued through this week with the Bank Windhoek Namibian Open/Closed Championships being played and also the RAACT at Omeya GC with visiting players from SA, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Lesotho. Rossmund's Caro Els was triumphant in the Closed Section 143 Gross with SA's D Flanagan taking the Open Section on 140 Gross. The final results of the RAACT are still awaited. Saturday 2 May was the club sponsored Individual Stableford. Wednesday 6 May sponsored Aggreko Saturday 11 May - Betterball Scramble Drive with a difference - lots of prizes - sponsor Alexander Forbes. We have two SAGES travelling with the Namibia Team to Cape St Francis for the SA Championships - Jacque & Tim drive safely and play well. Some of our members are going on their annual pilgrimage to SA (Rustenburg area) - play well have a great time and most of all drive safely. "In prehistoric times, cavemen had a custom of beating the ground with clubs and uttering spine-chilling cries. Anthropologists call this a form of primitive self-expression. When modern men go through the same ritual, they call it golf".
What Is The FEI World Dressage Challenge?
The FEI World dressage Challenge is an international competition that gives the less experienced Dressage riders who live in the more remote countries, the opportunity to compete internationally without having to leave their own country. The Competition is currently divided into eleven geographical Zones, made up of between four and six countries. Namibia is part of Zone 11, together with Swaziland, Mauritius, Botswana and for the first time also IRAN. It offers five performance levels, of which we only have entries for three levels: Medium Elementary Preliminary These are again divided into two age groups (12-15 yrs, 16 yrs. and older) In All Fairness: The riders of the FEI World Dressage Challenge are judged on the same tests and by the same Ground Jury within each
