The suspects brutally assaulted the pensioner in her own home in Flamingo Street. The victim, who celebrated her 80th birthday the day before opted to stay anonymous. Although already named by other media, namib times will honour her request for the sake of her safety. When namib times visited her in her home the elderly victim's face was still bruised and swollen. Two large cuts on her right cheek were covered with a plaster. Her shirt was still bloodstained and her feet were also swollen and blue. According to her she was busy in her backyard hanging up clothes, when suddenly three men stood in front of her. The time was about 11:30 in the morning. “I asked them what they are doing here, as it is not their property and

they said they are looking for their ball,” she said. She replied saying there is no ball, and then things took a sudden turn for the worse. The men grabbed her, pulled her into her house and dragged her into her shower. But the culprits did not stop there. They tied her up and continued to beat and kick the defenseless women mercilessly. “I guess they ran off because I did not stop screaming,” she said. They grabbed her wallet and ripped her watch from her arm. That was all they took after putting the old lady through the nightmare. Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, regional crime investigations co-ordinator for Erongo confirmed yesterday that the men are still at large and the police search for them continues. Ovaherero and Nama community feels they should be included in reparations talks Sharlien Tjambari

The Ovaherero, Ovambanderu and Nama community gathered this past weekend at the Swakopmund Memorial Park in Kramersdorf for the 10th annual reparation walk to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the 1904-1908 genocide at the concentration camp in Swakopmund. Commenting on the Namibian Government's decision of filing a lawsuit against the German government the Representative of the genocide reparation committee Mrs. Ida Hoofman said the only way the two governments will succeed in the reparations talks is if they include the Ovaherero and Nama people in the talks. Hoofman continued saying that reconciliation between the German government and the two communities is possible, but only if justice is served and reconciliation cannot happen without the Ovaherero and the Nama communities. The theme of the reparations walk is “It cannot be about us without us”. The Chief of the Topnaar Community Chief Seth Kooitjie said the prenegotiations and post-negotiations with all the stakeholders is important to prevent saying that the settlement is a secret of a few insiders. “We are saying loud and clear that let the entire composition and functions of the bodies be negotiated among Namibians first, and that the body develop its own mechanisms and tools for

dealing with internal issues before engaging with the Germans” said Kooitjie. As usual, the Ovaherero, Ovambanderu and the Nama Community marched through the streets of Swakopmund, from the Sports field in Vineta where they were staying for the weekend, to the Swakopmund Memorial Park in Kramersdorf. Everybody then proceeded to the memorial stoned with the words “In memory of the thousands heroic OvaHerero and OvaMbanderu who perished under mysterious circumstances at the realm of their German colonial masters in concentration camps in Swakopmund/ Otjozondjii during 1904-1908". At the memorial stone Mr. Uaaka said about two years back the Germans had the memorial monument, which was placed in honour of the late Chief Kuaima Riruako, removed but the Ovaherero community had a talk with the Swakopmund Municipality and the monument was finally replaced.

Ilse Jensen remembered 1922 - 2017 Ilse Jensen was born on 29 March 1922 in Kleinenenmarpe in the District of Detmold in Germany. In 1936, at the age of fourteen Ilse, with her parents, Alfred and Erna Herzberg and her brother, Walther, emigrated from Germany to Namibia.

The family settled in Keetmanshoop where Ilse's father was employed by Mr. Ernst Luchtenstein in a butchery. Iin 1943 the family relocated to the enclave of Walvis Bay where the family set up business. During this period Ilse attended a millinary course (hat making) in Cape Town. Ilse assisted her parents in their retail business, known as International Store (present site of Nedbank in Sam Nujoma Avenue). Amongst their clients were the Norwegian seafarers who were employed by the whaling industry. This was how Ilse met her husband to be, Norman Jensen from Norway. Isle and Norman were married in 1949 and two children were born from this marriage, Karin and Harald.

Ilse and Norman were active community members with involvement in the local M.O.T.H. organisation for numerous years. Ilse served as a volunteer helper at the local Seafarers Mission for quite a number of years enjoying the interaction with the foreigners. Ilse's husband, Norman passed away in 1974 after a long illness, leaving her widowed for 43 years. Ilse passed away peacefully on Sunday, 19 March 2017, in her home as was her wish. She leaves behind a daughter and a son, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The details for the memorial service will be announced.

More complaints over salt trucks spilling water

A resident of the lagoon area reported yesterday the road surface in 5th Road has been wet again after salt trucks delivered bulk salt to the port of Walvis Bay early. Salt trucks are spotted with water running from their loading compartments, as the salt is very wet. The salt water is spilled on the roads leading from the salt mine to the port and residents urge the relevant authorities to look into the matter to bring it to an end. Walvis Bay Salt Refiners last week confirmed the matter is under investigation and that corrective action will follow. Five months old baby boy dies after being left home alone for 13 hours A five months old baby died in Kuisebmond in Walvis Bay on Wednesday, after the 29 year old mother left the child alone at home for thirteen hours. The mother now faces a charge of murder. The incident happened in David Hambunda Street. The mother, who is employed by a security company, left for work on 22 March at 05:00 and returned home at 18:00 and found the child died. According to Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, police regional crime investigations co-ordinator for Erongo, the lady told Nampol that the baby was not feeling well by the time she left for work and she was supposed to come back home to take the baby to the clinic. Poor women probably got her request declined and had to stay at work and not risk getting fired so she could provide for that little baby. Sadly this happened. Russian Navy docks

Floris Steenkamp Hundreds of local residents and Russian- or Eastern European expatriates in Namibia were welcomed aboard the visiting Russian warship Severomorsk on Sunday, as part of an open day. The Russian Navy is on a historic visit to Namibia and is docked in the port of Walvis Bay since Saturday. Severomorsk is classed an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) cruiser and is accompanied by a naval tug and auxiliary ship for fuel and supplies. It was explained on Sunday Severomorsk was supporting Russian military operations in Syria against Islamic State (ISIS) late in 2016. It has been redeployed for Atlantic patrol duties, as Russia de-escalates its military operations in Syria.

Stepping Stone empowers Autism Sharoldine Bock

On Saturday, 25 February the Stepping stone school for autistic kids organized their annual fun day event targeted to satisfy the need of developmental challenged children, find solutions and raise awareness. Stepping Stone is however the only school within the region that offers education to developmental challenged children predominately to children diagnosed with ASD (Autistic Spectrum disorder). The school therefore also meets the Namibian combined with British standards for special education. They distribute the same care to one girl diagnosed with Down Syndrome as well as kids suffering from mental development challenges specifically struggling with concentration, having learning difficulty or cannot adapt to a normal school facility. Zanet Pieterse, Chairman of the board explained autistic children differ from disabled ones as autistic kids have a normal body functioning but struggle mentally and it's important that the community is aware of such circumstances. This remains the primary reason for this funday; to raise awareness and also to network with parents and enable these children to feel and experience the same opportunities as normal children. She also stressed that it is the nearest they get to do an athletic event.The children played sport just to mention a few; volleyball and soccer where prizes were

offered to the best team performances. The school assisted with the Trust and sponsorships for the community plans to build a qualified institution acknowledged by the government. The project would be executed in 4 phases in which the 1st phase is to have a basic facility for early child developments as well as constructing a pre and low primary. Phase 2 includes a full primary, whilst phase 3 entails creating a secondary establishment and phase 4 targets improvement in school developments such as establishing a therapy room, some special facilities initiated for child kinetics, sports, music therapies and another for specialists. This however serves to get more children diagnosed, find solutions as well as training more people. On 18-21 March, the Namibian Chess Federation represented the first fade rated tournament in the country where 18 participants qualified to compete in the Namibian Chess Championship Qualifiers. This tournament had no age restrictions where over 50 people participated in the 4day event and were witnessed by over 100 people. In the open section, 10 men were chosen namely; Clarence Campell, MatjiuaKajovi, Sanders Oberholzer, Jossy Uapingene, ToivoNangula, William Kamberipa, Max Nitzborn, Goodwill Khoa, Dante Beukes and Charles Eichab whereas in the women section 8 were chosen namely; Jamie-Nicole Beukes, Penandjambi Tjipueja, Taisha Uris, Keisha Van Wyk, KamutuuaTjatindi, LishenMentile, Patience Tsuses and Lure Horn (in Absentia). Tournament Director, Israel Shilongo explained that this was the first chess tournament within the country, “It was implemented to ensure a high level of competitiveness at National level and enable 18 people to compete in the Namibian Chess Championship Qualifiers, also mentioning that it was the first time that the tournament had awarded the national colour ties at the prize giving. Undefeated “Die Basters” loses to Pirates Sharoldine Bock

Pirates launched a jaw dropping performance on Saturday, beating log leaders “Die Basters” 2-1 in the social soccer league. Diego Fransman made Pirates take an early lead at half time with 1-0 after a successful penalty kick in the 32nd minute. Fransman again “danced through the defense” in the second half and scored the second goal of the match in the 46th minute after a cross kick. Basters came back in the 55th minute and scored a goal by Samuel Goagoseb’s penalty shot. Die Basters coach noted: “football is a game of a up and downs. Things haven't gone our way but regardless I'm satisfied as this would remain as a learning experience. Since there's time for recuperation, watch out the Basters will return”.

Kuisebmond Social Club competed with the Muncipality in a friendly match final, ending in a neck to neck 2-2. Siremo Carlos and Haraseb Reginald scored in the 10th minute and 22nd minute respecitvely in favour of Municipality, Heinzo Khi-Khoeb and Alfredo Sakaria from Kuisebmond social club scored in the 16min and 32 min.

Kudus wen - Walvisbaai sukkel nog om sy verloorvere af te skud Kudus kon die naweek opskuif na vyfde plek op die puntleer van die Namibië Rugbyunie premierliga, danksy 'n 22-15 oorwinning oor Reho Falcon. Walvisbaai was minder gelukkig en het 48-31 teen Trustco United verloor. Walvisbaai staan onderaan die punteleer en kom aanstaande naweek teen Reho Falcon te staan op Walvisbaai, terwyl Kudus en Rehoboth mekaar die stryd gaan aansê op Kudus se tuisveld in Narraville op Walvisbaai. Unam staan nou eerste op die premierliga se punteleer met 16 punte; Wanderers is tweede met 11 punte, United 10 punte; Western Suburbs 10 punte, Kudus 8 punte; Rehoboth 6 punte; Reho Falcon 2 punte en Walvisbaai 2 punte.
