Police continues search for mother of abandoned newborn baby Erwin Leuschner

The Namibian Police in Erongo is calling on the public at large for assistance in tracing the mother of a newborn baby girl, which was dumped in the bushes next to the railway line in Narraville. The crying baby was discovered by mere chance on Friday morning by a member of the public. The baby is healthy and in good condition. According to deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, police regional crime investigations coordinator for Erongo, the crying baby was discovered at around 07:30 by a member of the public who was on the way to the industrial area to look for work. He heard the cries of a baby and found the newborn zipped in a brown travelling bag

placed in the reeds near Neptune Street. He immediately alerted the police. “It seems the baby, which is light in skin complexion, was dumped there early that morning by an unknown mother (suspect),” Iikuyu said. The baby was taken to the Walvis Bay State Hospital for medical examination and was found to be healthy.

The police is requesting for public assistance in tracing the suspect.” Anyone with information can contact deputy commissioner Iikuyu (081 246 4757), Members of Gender Based Violence Protection Investigation sub-Division (064-219 068) or report any information at the nearest police station.

Three Chinese injured during freak accident at Sandwich Harbour Erwin Leuschner Three Chinese nationals sustained serious and minor injuries respectively after they were involved in a freak accident on Saturday afternoon in the dunes south of Walvis Bay. The tourists were sitting in a stationary vehicle which rolled down a dune. The incident was confirmed by deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, police regional crime investigations coordinator for Erongo. According to Iikuyu a total of six Chinese tourists were on a tour to Sandwich Harbor when the unfortunate incident occurred. The tour guide, who was driving a Nissan Patrol vehicle, parked the car on top of a dune in the vicinity of Sandwich Harbor about 30 kilometers from Walvis Bay. “While on top of a dune three Chinese together with the driver got out of the vehicle to take photos while the other three Chinese nationals remained in the car,” Iikuyu said. The car suddenly started moving down the dune and apparently overturned once it reached the bottom. During the incident one Chinese tourist panicked and jumped out of the moving vehicle, while the other remained inside. Mrs Zheng Meimei (36) sustained serious back injuries, Mrs lin Yane (41) sustained minor injuries and Mrs lu Yadan (56) sustained serious face injuries. In its mandate to increase awareness of the Walvis Bay Corridors and the port of Walvis Bay, the Walvis Bay Corridor Group and Namport recently exhibited at the recent Transport Logistic 2017, held in Munich, Germany. Transport Logistic is an International Exhibition for Logistics, Mobility, IT and Supply Chain Management and the world's biggest trade fair for freight transport covering all modes and held every two years in Munich. The event this year attracted 2,162 exhibitors from 62 countries showcasing their products and services, with the total number of recorded visitors at 60,726 from 123 countries. Some of the world's leading service providers were represented at the event, which also offered a multitude of conferences covering a wide range of topics central to transport and logistics solutions. In pursuance of our ongoing efforts to position Namibia as a regional Logistics Hub, the WBCG and Namport used this opportunity to promote Namibia as Gateway to Southern Africa, with a distinct focus on the Namibia Logistics Hub Project and developments in our transport sector, most notably the new container terminal under construction. With our Logistics Hub Project as the central theme, in-depth discussions were held with a number of Multinational Logistics and Transport companies as well as with a host of Freight and Business Associations. The team was fortunate to engage with the Logistics Alliance Germany at the event, which led to discussions to pursue further collaboration. Logistics Alliance Germany is a public-private partnership between the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and the German Logistics industry, with the same objectives, mandates and responsibilities as the WBCG. These similarities between the two organizations allows the WBCG to tap into the network, experience and knowledge of Logistics Alliance Germany and its members, to the benefit of our members and the Namibian Transport sector. Germany's reputation as a top logistics location, supported by excellent infrastructure and high-quality logistics service providers, could offer a wealth of possibilities for Namibia. Logistics as a catalyst for trade remains central to the WBCG and Namport's mandates and as such the cooperation with Logistics Alliance Germany will not only focus on capacity programs but will also seek to foster direct linkages between the two organisations' members. This initiative further supports our drive to attract global distribution companies to assist us in developing the distribution opportunities via Namibia for the SADC region. Events of this nature allow the WBCG to fulfill its mandate to promote Namibia's transport and logistics sector, specifically focusing on our transit Corridors. It further provides a platform to market the Namibia Logistics Hub Initiative and attract potential partners and investors to the benefit of our members and the Namibian economy at large. “Forming strategic alliances is a key focus area for WBCG. We are excited about the opportunities that the potential collaboration with Logistics Alliance Germany will bring to the Namibian logistics sector, though knowledge sharing and best practices to enhance service delivery”, explains Mr Clive Smith, WBCG's Logistics Hub Manager. The participation of the WBCG and Namport at this year's Transport Logistic was greatly supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). GIZ and WBCG, through the NamibiaGerman Development Agreement, under the office of the National Planning Commission, entered into a cooperation agreement with GIZ providing support towards implementation of the Namibia Logistics Master Plan.

The suspect was driving a vehicle, belonging to Chinese Nuclear Engineering Company (CNEC), to the mine on Friday afternoon when the car overturned resulting in one fatality. It is the first fatality reported on the stretch of road since it was opened. Mom knows best - also about finances Press Release

Mothers deserve a lot of credit for the variety of life lessons they teach children; including guidance on finances. “In fact, more than eight in ten Americans say they learned something about money from their mothers,” says Elzita Beukes, Manager: Corporate Communications at FNB Namibia. “In light of the recent Mother's Day and Women's Month, we thought it great to share some of the financial wisdom and savings tips we learned from our mothers that are still applicable today.” 'We believe that a woman who has a bank account can take care of herself and her family, and while there are always exceptions to the rule, women have proven to be manage debt and re-payers better, and tend to put away more for a rainy day.” Elzita adds, “The most fundamental rule to remember is to live within your means and to differentiate between a want and a need. Do you really need another pair of shoes or are the four pairs in the cupboard sufficient for now? This is something I learned from my mother and she also taught me to shop wisely and consider sales. These tips will stretch the budget to last a little longer.” Mothers are interested in the kids' oney learning process and the day-to-day aspects of financial management. “Life lessons like “don't be late” and “practice, practice, practice” and “don't be afraid to ask for help” and many others have direct application to your finances. After all, it's wise indeed to never make a late payment, to ensure that enough money is in the account for all the debit orders that go off and to seek advice on complicated money matters.” FNB Namibia offers a number of great products which talk to women and their families such as the Flexi Fixed Deposit accounts (which allows the customers to

deposit additional funds into the account during the investment term, which can be either 3 or 12 months as well as 2 withdrawals to the value of 15% of the available balance), Bank Your Change, POS for transactions when doing grocery shopping, Cellphone Banking (Airtime Purchases for the kids) and Cardless ATM withdrawals if you forgot your card at home when running between work, school and home. Then there are the future accounts for school going kids, student loans for students and Credit cards which –probably - all women like! Says Elzita: “One of the greatest products we offer at FNB that may appeal to the more prudent woman – is the Bank Your Change as it is a feature on all Transactional Accounts which uses a linked Savings Pocket to automatically transfer money from your transactional account to your savings account, when you pay with your Debit Card.” This feature is an innovative way for customers to automatically save their “left over” cents/change when they swipe their Debit card. It helps the customer to save their money automatically – you are saving while you shop and you can determine how much must be set aside every time you swipe your debit card. Ladies – let us all become financially savvy and independent during the Women's Month.”

Do Billions Lost Warrant Suspect charged a Slap on the Wrist Press Release

The Permanent Secretaries who have been deemed to have been responsible for the “negligence” which has seen the costs of the construction of the national fuel storage facility at Walvis Bay rise from N$ 3.8 billion in 2014 to N$ 5.5 Billion in 2016 have all been issued with “final written warnings”. Interestingly despite being termed “final”, these warnings will all fall away after 12 months… If negligence and recklessness in the performance of your duties results in the Government losing N$ 1.7 billion and this only leads to a temporary 12 month “final” warning, then the question becomes, what level of negligence is required to have someone removed from their position. Permanent Secretaries in other ministries now know that they could negligently or corruptly lose over 1 Billion of the tax payer’s money and only get a slap on the wrist. This is the precedent that has been set. In an era where the governing administration is a vocal proponent of accountability, transparency and good governance as the basis for service delivery and poverty eradication, it is confounding and completely unacceptable that even when presented with blatant evidence of poor governance, negligence and perhaps even fraud that same administration sees it fit to dish out mere slaps on the wrists. The questions tax payers must ask is: How much is enough? Do billions negligently lost warrant a slap on the wrist? Issued By:Hon. Nico Smit (MP) 0811653525 DTA Treasurer General

Ridding yourself from debt to create financial wellness Media Release

According to the Financial Literacy Initiative (FLI), 89% of salaries is paid to service debt in Namibia; 51% of Namibians are financially literate while only a mere 32% implement the knowledge of financial literacy. The FLI is a national platform aimed at enhancing financial education for individuals, and micro, small and medium sized enterprises. As one of the FLI's long standing platform supporters, Standard Bank tirelessly works on improving the financial competencies of all Namibians, one of the ways being through alleviating debt thereby creating conditions for financial wellness. “Most of the times Namibians spend more than what they earn resulting in unnecessary debt and worry. Standard Bank through its Workplace Banking programme would like to encourage people to spend within their means and earnings especially in this trying economic climate. The best way to do so is to eliminate whatever debt you have accumulated through the years so you can start off on a clean slate,” Standard Bank's Workplace Banking Manager, Cicelia Hagen-Cloete advised. Through Workplace Banking, Standard Bank consultants visit employees at their workplace and arm them with the tools to reach their financial goals through educating them on a range of topics such as financial planning, budgeting, saving through investments, Wills and estate planning, as well as day to day banking. Hagen-Cloete stressed that it is easy for debt free people to take control of personal finances, allowing them to experience a strong sense of wellness and health, focus on their work and

be more productive. “The first step towards eliminating debt is by a conscious decision to stop adding to your debt. The more you pile onto that dirt, the harder it is to get rid of it. Sometimes it may seem like a good idea to get a loan to help you pay off some debt however that can only worsen your situation,” she explained. “You need to cut down on spending, and if need be, become frugal in your spending. The less you spend, the more money you have. This excess money should be used for paying off your debt. Another tip to get rid of debt is to create an emergency fund. This comes in handy when you have to spend money you have not budgeted for or do not have. It keeps you from having to borrow more money in case of an emergency,” she noted. Another way to rid oneself of debt that people often overlook is finding additional sources of income. This additional income will allow you to pay off your debts, and is beneficial in the long-run because it allows you to have excess funds, eliminating the need for debt, HagenCloete also said. Armed with the help of Workplace Banking consultants, it is easy for anyone to live a debt free, financial empowered life. For more information on Workplace Banking send an email to NamibiaWorkplaceBanking@standardbank.c om.na visit your nearest branch, Standard Bank website at www.standardbank.com.na or on the bank's Facebook page. Three airline staff members denied bail in luggage theft case

The small fraternity of people working for the various service providers at the Walvis Bay Airport were shocked to learn this week of the arrest of three of their colleagues after high value items were stolen from the luggage of an airline passenger on Saturday (13 April 2017). Police seeks help in tracing family members after discovering body of 81 year old The police in Erongo region is appealing to the public to assist in tracing family members of Swakopmund resident Herbert Wolfgang Ralph Fritz (81). He was found dead in his residence at Marlene Court number 23, industrial area on Wednesday. Fritz was a German speaking Namibian. His body was already partially decomposed when he was discovered. According to deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, police regional crime investigations coordinator for Erongo, the gardener and neighbours alerted the police after they detected a foul smell emanating from the apartment. The deceased was staying alone and the neighbours claim that have not seen Fritz for the past three weeks. “Police officers broke a window to gain entrance and found all doors locked from the inside,” Iikuyu said. A partially decomposed body was found in the apartment. The body was taken to the Walvis Bay police morgue for a post mortem examination to determine the cause of death. The police is yet to trace the deceased's next of kin. We appeal to the public to assist in tracing family members,” Iikuyu added. Bernd Syvertsen Always willing to help with advice! FNB warns about malware wreaking havoc worldwide FNB Namibia wishes to caution the public about malware that has begun infecting computers worldwide from Friday last week. FNB IT Risk Manager, Holger Bossow explains: “On 12 May 2017, a malware began infecting computers worldwide. This was believed to be through a well-crafted phishing email or vulnerability within the network defenses.” Thus far, more than 150 countries were attacked of which the UK National Health Service, Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK, Portugal Telecom, Deutsche Bahn, Renault, PetroChina are but a few organizations attacked so far. It is important to note that the spread of this malware continues.” Holger added that the Malware “WannaCry” was a Ransomware by nature. “It executes itself on your computer and encrypts your entire hard drive, meaning all your information will be inaccessible to you. It will then display a Ransomware page, informing you to pay an amount of USD 300.00 as way of a ransom to unencrypt your hard drive. This specific malware spreads via emails and via vulnerabilities within the network. Once it has manifested itself within an organization or company, it will exploit the vulnerability within the Operating System to spread across an internal network.” “Although the first round of the WannaCry attack seems to have passed, the chances are the creator, or some other hacker, will

repurpose the malware and send it back onto the web again. We wish to emphasize and caution our customers and the public at large not to open any suspicious looking mails and not to click on any links within suspicious looking mails. If you suspect your system is infected, immediately disconnect it from your network and shut it down and report the incident to your IT department or IT company immediately.” The bank urges everyone to remain vigilant at all times –and to immediately delete any suspicious or emails, even mails from people you do not know. “We also encourage everyone to be extra attentive even when surfing the internet.”

Holger Bossow

West Coast Sharks Marching On!!!

Contributed

The West Coast Sharks thrashed Erongo Rugby Academy 53-14 on Saturday at The SFC. After a long awaited return, No 8 Henning Joubert opened the score board with a try after a pick up from the back of a scrum near the E.R.A goal line. Minutes later an outstanding strike move from a scrum saw outside centre Wilbur Henckert dotting down behind the try line as well. The men from E.R.A tested the West Coast Sharks defense with some brilliant attacking strategies but the men in blue and white once again stuck to their guns. No 5 Lock Ettiene Noeth crossed the chalk as well in the first half, handing the West Coast Sharks a 21-0 lead. E.R.A finally found a way to penetrate the West Coast Sharks defense and went over for a try of their own making the score 21-7 at half time. In the second half however, the West Coast Sharks came out firing all cylinders when No 8 Henning Joubert, exciting young winger Marcellino van Rooi, Outside Centre Wilbur Henckert and Flanker Mynhardt Louw all crossed the white line for a brace of tries each. Erongo Rugby Academy managed to score a consolation try of their own as well in the second half. West Coast Sharks would like to thank all our loyal supporters as well as our sponsors
