Solidarity. This is what Clinton Lang, organiser of the upcoming silent protest at the Swakopmund magistrates court, wishes to see. "We are fed up with the rising crime wave. We want to show solidarity," he told namib times this week. The silent protest will start on Tuesday (26 September) at 09:00 at the Amphitheatre and coincides with the court appearance of the three suspects accused of murdering Siegfried Paul Helmuth Strzelecki (82) and his wife Sieglinde (79) at the beginning of August. After meeting at the Amphitheatre all attendees will move in front of the court. "There will not be a petition that the whole town signs. The event focuses on the town showing solidarity", Lang continued. To show solidarity, all attendees will hold hands at 10:00 and form a human chain in the area. "We want to show the people that we are all together and that we, as a town, show that this is very serious," he added. The silent protest is called "A Peaceful Swakopmund For All." Lang encourages attendees to wear white as this is the universal Continued on Page 2

Less salt truck on Walvis Bay’s streets The number of hauls of bulk salt from the salt works to the port of Walvis Bay's bulk salt terminal is to reduce by one thousand trips per month with immediate effect, Walvis Bay Salt Refiners announced this week. This is thanks to an overhauled fleet of side tipping trucks, that can each carry a load of 34 tons of salt, to replace the current fleet of trucks that can carry only 20 tons per haul.

fleet. For the occasion the Chief Operating Officer of Unitrans International, Mr Terry Bantock personally attended and said this was an initiative for change. Bantock explained as a logistics service provider, there are many challenges that have to balance out. A safe speed, the fact that salt is hauled on main routes in Walvis Bay, the time window of operations, the fact that no salt spillage may take place and overloading are a few such factors that need to be managed constantly. Moreover, these factors must be managed against the economies of bulk salt handling. Salt is a high-volume commodity with a very thin profit margin. "We have to optimise", explained Bantock. Adding: "the economics don't stack up", if a fleet of brand new trucks is pushed into the local market to haul bulk salt. Although the trucks were second hand, some N$45 million was spent to coat each vehicle with a corrosive resistant agent, a new layer of paint and a driver monitoring system were also installed. This monitoring system is remotely controlled from an operations centre in Cape Town, on a 24/7 basis. Residents of Walvis Bay can now look forward to reduced salt truck traffic, specifically on Kovambo Nujoma Lane and 5th Road and a cleaner and dry road surface.) Also addressing guests at the occasion on Tuesday was the Managing Director of Walvis Bay Salt Refiners, Mr. André Snyman. Snyman recognised operations by the salt producer were not meeting social acceptable standards at all times. [It is a known fact, residents in the past complained over the high salt truck volumes, noise pollution and spillage on the street surfaces. Thanks to a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency that is a hallmark of Walvis Bay Salt Refiners's business recipe, this problem has now been overcome. Walvis Bay Salt Refiners, explained Mr. Snyman in his address, is one of the oldest mining companies in Namibia with a lifespan stretching already more than fifty years. Bulk salt exports from the salt pans accounts for 50 % of all volumes exported through the port of Walvis Bay and the company pumps some N$160 million into the Namibian economy per year, of which N$100 million is spent in Walvis Bay and the wider coastal area.

Giving a background of how the uranium sector wants to meet the future through improved efficiencies was Mr. Werner Duvenhage, the Managing Director of Rössing Uranium, during the recent Uranium 2017 International Conference in Swakopmund. The conference was organised by the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM), in collaboration with the Canadian Institute for Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), the Namibian Uranium Institute and the Namibian University of Science and Technology (NUST). Various uranium mining stakeholders addressed delegates at the conference. Duvenhage made a presentation titled: "Uranium in Namibia: The past, present and future." Duvenhage discussed the trends in uranium mining and shared some background on the history of uranium mining activities in Namibia from 1928 to 2011. The year 2011 was a fateful year for the global uranium industry, when the Fukushima nuclear accident happened in Japan after a devastating tsunami. Duvenhage also compared production between Namibia's two longestoperating uranium mines, Rössing Uranium and Langer Heinrich Uranium. He also highlighted the expected future contribution of Swakop Uranium's Husab Mine to the sector. He reflected on the uranium market, from the boom in the period 1960 to the 80s, to the busts in the market following the Chernobyl (1986) and Fukushima incidents (2011) and the Kazakstani and Chinese impact on the uranium market. He also discussed the future of markets in the case of persistent oversupply scenarios (simple market dynamics) and the resultant continued uncertainty and volatility that will remain. Duvenhage's presentation also highlighted Rössing Uranium's socioeconomic reach and support of Government's national development programs. Specifically, that Rössing's economic contribution was at 1.2% of Namibia's GDP in 2016, whilst the mine contributed significantly to infrastructure development over its 41 years of production – acting as a catalyst for other industries.

symbol of peace. "I am overwhelmed at how many people have contacted me, who are eager to be part of this event", Lang said. Some Swakopmund businesses have announced that they will close their shops on Tuesday so that their staff can attend. Lang's initiative was born after the brutal murder of the Strzelecki couple on 2 August. Two suspects entered their house and initially attacked Roswitha Strzelecki, resulting in her death. They then turned to her husband and threatened and assaulted him. They stole a cellphone, sandals and N$1 000 in cash before fleeing the scene. Siegfried Strzelecki succumbed to injuries sustained in the attack a few days after the incident. The police managed to arrest the alleged killers and an accomplice shortly after the attack and also managed to recover all

stolen items. Shortly after the murder, another Swakopmund pensioner, Manfred Hartmann, was found murdered in his house. The main suspect in this matter was arrested at Outjo. He was allegedly resisting arrest, which resulted in him allegedly being shot in the leg. He has been admitted to a hospital in Windhoek and has not yet appeared in court in Swakopmund, on account he is still recovering. The killing of the elderly residents are not the only senseless murders in Swakopmund this year. Several other people lost their lives at the hands of cold blooded individuals who could not care taking an innocent life and in the process causing hundreds of relatives and friends heart ache and loss.

Three accidents in less Whole day needed to bury 20-ton whale than 24 hours Erwin Leuschner

Piquet Jacobs

In less than twenty-four hours between Tuesday and Wednesday morning of this week, three accidents involving pick-up trucks were reported in the coast region. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in any of these incidents. In the most recent incident, a pick-up truck road and overturned on the Henties Bayseemingly veered off the road and overturned Swakopmund road. The driver reportedly lost on the MR44 route (behind the dunes) after the control in wet road conditions, after an apparent driver lost control. The incident appears to tyre blow out. Fortunately, no injuries were have taken place in the early hours of reported. Wednesday morning. Motorists on their way Another accident was reported on Tuesday to work came across the scene and reported it morning on the B2 coastal road when the driver to the relevant authorities. The driver of the of a pick-up truck near Langstrand lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and vehicle was nowhere to be seen. On Tuesday morning, a pick-up veered off the overturn. Miraculously too, the driver only sustained minor injuries.

The Henties Bay municipality acted very swiftly and has buried the dead humpback whale which stranded on Monday at Solitude, about one kilometer south of the town. The whale weighed close to 20 tons - it took the entire day to bury the carcass of this marine mammal. According to Simon Elwen of the Namibian Dolphin Project (NDP), it was a female humpback whale which was 12.9 meters long. "It was a young adult and probably between two and four years old," he explained. He added the whale stranded alive. "The cause of death is unknown, as there were no signs of external injury beyond scratches received presumably during the stranding process itself," he said. Elwen also noted that the whale was very skinny. It can be attributed to the fact that the whale was on its southwards migration and has possibly not eaten for several months whilst on the breeding grounds. "Starvation may have played a pivotal role." "Timing suggests it was on its southward migration", according to Elwen. He explained high die-offs of humpback whales from "nutritional stress" have been reported in several populations and seem to be linked to the large size of the recovering populations. "The population has recovered so much, they are battling to all find food," he said. The latest stranding is the sixth stranding of a humpback whale along the Namibian coastline reported this year. The most recent one does not seem unusual, compared to the other incidents. According to the NDP the previous stranding's occurred in the beginning of the year which is a very high peak compared to previous years. Humpback whales are usually sighted along the Namibian coastline between July and September (migration) and between December and February (summer feeding). According to Henties Bay's traffic chief Johannes Makina, the municipality was advised to bury the whale as it died in the municipal area. "It was already smelling really bad on Tuesday", Makina said. The municipality used a front-end loader and a grader to complete the task. A hole of eight meters deep and twenty meters wide was excavated. "It still took us the whole day to bury the animal. It was really heavy," he said. It was the first time the municipality had to bury a stranded animal. According to eyewitnesses the humpback whale stranded alive and was still alive by 10:00 on Monday morning. Curious residents saw the animal early in the morning and photos posted early show some people actually climbing on top of the stranded whale.

Marikondjo Tjambiru (r), leader of the Ovahimba Cultural Group and the artist Ngueikanda Daniel Mupura examine some huts at new Himba village next to the Martin Luther Museum in Swakopmund. Construction is expected to conclude by November

Tourists and locals will soon be able to experience the unique culture of the Ovahimba cultural group in Swakopmund. Although any visit to the Kaokoland is an unforgettable experience, it is now possible for those who cannot make such a trip to experience this unique culture and customs. The Himba village is constructed next to the Martin Luther Museum and is expected to be completed by November this year. For Marikondjo Tjambiru it is a dream come true. For six years he has been working on the idea of creating an Ovahimba village in the coastal town, to showcase the culture of his people. After he submitted countless applications with various authorities, approval was finally granted and the construction of the first Ovahimba village at the coast started in August. When namib times visited the site this week, five traditional huts were seen, some completed and others still under construction. According to Ngueikanda Daniel Mupura, an artist assisting during the construction-phase, it is envisaged that the small village will eventually feature nine huts, including a main hut. The traditional huts are cone shaped structures made from palm leaves, mud and cattle dung. The center of the village will feature a holy or ritual fire known a "Okoruwo". "We will surround the village with poles and build a reception at the entrance. We ask the community to assist us with material", said Tjambiru, the leader of the Ovahimba Cultural Group. While Tjambiru is very grateful for the poles which were sponsored by the Office of the Governor, he requests more to finish this unique village. Once the village is completed, tourists and locals can witness and experience the unique Himba-culture right here in Swakopmund. Tours will be offered where all aspects are explained, whilst traditional Himba-crafts can be purchased. These include work in skin and leather (head-dresses, girdles and aprons), jewelry (copper-wire neck-bands and bracelets), wooden neck-rests, basketry and pottery. Other activities which will be offered on site include dancing, singing, drum playing, weaving and preparing of traditional food.

Smash and grabbers caught red-handed The police have issued a stern warning to taxi drivers assisting criminals. Specifically supporting criminals who target tourists on the B2 coastal road between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund as well as at Dune 7. This comes after three suspects were arrested redhanded after targeting a stationery tourist vehicle on the B2. Tourists and visitors unfamiliar with local conditions often park their vehicles close to the B2 and go for long walks to take pictures. It is then when criminals strike, as the victims are too far from their vehicles and must helplessly look on as their valuables are stolen. "You face arrest," threatened Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, regional crime investigations coordinator for Erongo, after Friday's police success. The three suspects were caught red-handed after they smashed the window of rented vehicle in the vicinity of Langstrand and attempted to steal items worth N$1 500-00. Timoteus Alweendo (29), Mateus Kaunamukweni (33) and Stefanus Iita (33) appeared in court yesterday in connection with the incident. Anastasia Harases sent the idiots back to their villages, they do not belong in towns they don't also understand the importance of tourist to our countries economic growth Ronel Louw Anastasia, you get my vote my dear! Tangeni Haimbala The same incident happened again on Sunday. As always, the victims are foreigners. Four Polish nationals parked their car at Lagoon, while busy taking pictures of the beautiful Flamingos, some criminals approached their car, smashed the window and take their valuable items. Among the stolen items is a professional camera worth ₏3000.00. To make things worse, a resident in Walvis bay town who found their passport ripped them of N$3000.00 in exchange of their passports.

He made my enemies confess what they had done to me. Ester from Katima. I first heard of Mr Gastin from a friend, I took his number and booked for appointment, he charge N$100.00 to read my fortune. I was shocked when he told me of all the misfortune I was facing in my marriage and in my business for many years. he even told me the cause of my childlessness Which he showed me through a mirror, was caused by a spell cursed to me by a woman my husband was dating for over 10 years. I was shocked. Mr Gustin cast out the spell from me and things started changing. Today I am carrying my 4 months son, enjoying my marriage and our business is booming. I am not paid to give my testimony but I had to share my joy with others. This the only way to show my gratitude to God who sent Mr Gustin. He is now in Swakop-mund and Walvis Bay Contact number 081 445 9691

Testimony: Its now six months since prophetic doctor Rose attended to my crises. I was socked in sorrows. I had no one to talk to because all my friends and relative avoided me. Now every one wants to know me. My name is Edith from Windhoek. I am an event coordinator and had done well for myself until two years ago, I fell in a deep debt with bank through a stupid investment I entered into. I ended up losing everything. My happy home become hell to live in and I fell in a bad depression which ended me in the mental hospital after a miscarriage of our second child. My husband left me for another woman and sold our home for next to nothing, No one visited me at the mental institution accept my neighbours daughter who also took care after my 4 year daughter visited me. After a month at the institution my neighbour took me in and took me to Dr Rose. Dr Rose reviewed the cause of all that was hampering to me and remove a number of spells that were cursed upon me by someone that Dr Rose asked me to forget and focus on building my life, he cleansed me with coconut milk and other substance known by Dr Rose and now my enemies are at shame. Could not to help to share my testimony for I know many are in the position that I was. Prophetic Dr Rose is now in Windhoek and Oshakati Call now 081 219 4969

Pics Monthly Medal The past weekend was the PISCS MONTHLY MEDAL and Karl literally shot the lights out, coming in with a nett 59 on the day, so far ahead he won first second and third prize. Well played Karl, keep that ball. Best gross was won by Kevin [jou ou doring] on a 74 and the 'A' division was won by Tienie on 71, [ook net terug n week en klap ons op ons eie baan, mooi gedaan Tienie]. David Peake won the 'B' division on 67. David this is the way you win prizes not lucky draws hahaha. The 'C' division was won by one of our visitors on the Navin on a fine 71. The pot was won by another visitor, Keith Gardiner, sorry I missed you Keith. On the photo are Karl and Herman. We had eight visitors from Windhoek and it was indeed our pleasure to have them here with us for the day. You are always welcome at our club, but then you know this. Heinie and Michael won the lucky draws. Again many thanks to PISCS, JJ and his team for the ongoing sponsorship for the monthly medal This weekend is the FNB COASTAL OPEN, and the list is on the board. The entries will be limited by handicap, just that you know. Next weekend is the club championship which is obviously closed and limited to club members. The list will go up soonest We have had some good news from Gert and the juniors from the club playing in the Namibian Junior Open. Martinus Marais won the 'A' division best nett, Jonathon Mather won the best nett in the 'B' division. [At least one Mather that can play the game J] Emile jnr won the 'C' division [selle storie oor die Vilberts - net een mag maar speel], while Victor van der Watt was second in the 'C' division. Not to be out done, Marika Neethling won the overall girls division. Ai this so very good for the club and congratulations to all the players and winners. Well done to Gert - the coach of the month. Our golf is in indeed in good hands. The TRAVEL MAGIC RACE TO CAPE TOWN and the PISCS MONTHLY MEDAL is getting close to the September cut off for the RACE TO CAPE TOWN and only two more events for the MEDAL so guys on top will need to hone their skills. There are a few windows still available for advertising, so please contact Darryl 081 124 1605. The best [other] results from the weekend were lions giving the bulls a real hiding, while on the point of hidings did you see what Man u did to Everton, but the you are all waiting for me to say something more on rugby, but I think 'ouch' is enough said J. Seem like there are two managers that need the chop, both names starting with 'a' Aresen and Allister haha The garage has been upgraded and now works with a remote. Well done and thanks to Jason and Darryl for driving this project. Invoice to cart owners will follow shortly. The remotes are available at the Pro Shop. On the point of the Pro Shop they were broken into last week. Seems that there is a bit of a bad element walking around and watching the club so all too please be aware of this more so in the evenings. The draw was not won last week so 1 100 this week Friday as Jose Brito was not at the club last week. Only two weeks left to get your subs paid so please support and pay your subs soonest. There is some 'bar discussion', and it is only that, about keeping the water hazard or changing it to a bunker on #9/18. If you have any feelings or comments please let us have them. As I said this is only bar talk at this stage but positive banter. Final decision will be done by the greens committee but your input will be appreciated. NOTE THE CLUB WILL BE CLOSED ON FRIDAY ALL DAY AS WELL AS SATURDAY ALL DAY AND SUNDAY UNTIL 13H00 FOR THE COSTAL OPEN Karl and Herman
