Yu Tian Factory Gives Ultimatum to Striking Workers Mavourlene !Gaës
The stone factory outside Walvis Bay, Yu Tian, has given an ultimatum to the Namibia National Labour Organisation, NANLO, and its affiliate the Mining, Metal, Maritime and Construction Union (MMMC), demanding that workers on, as it is stated, “the illegal, unprotected and ongoing strike at Best Cheer Investments Namibia” return to work immediately. The company has indicated that it is considering legal action against the MMMC, for financial losses incurred.

Struwig says Williams has confirmed that he has listened to the voice recordings and that the pilots have been in contact with Page 36 the Tower until 18 seconds
before the crash – he says there was no mentioning or indication that there was anything wrong with the ambulance plane, or that there was any tension on the plane. He says that is of great importance to him, but also raises the question, “why had there not been any warning from the tower, or mentioning of a de-
viation of the air ambulance flight course or flight plan, or anything of that kind – it is a strong indicator to us, that the tower, although in radio contact with the plane, most probably might not have had them visible on a radar screen in the tower – and that’s why there had been no warning from the tower. If they had had
visual contact or access on the radar screen, why did they not warn them, if they saw that their height or their approach for landing was not in order? That is one of our unanswered questions.” He says Williams did not want to discuss technical detail, because he is still finalising his investigation report, looking into the Continues on page 2

EBH Namibia announces wage increase Madelaine Laubscher
EBH Namibia (Elgin Brown and Hamer) announced a successful conclusion of the wage negotiations with their employees to the media on Wednesday in Walvis Bay.
“Return to Work Or…” Continued from page 1 and healthy working conditions remains absolute. It is however clear that the health and safety of employees are not the real issue here and that section 42 is only being “invoked” to place undue pressure on our client to give in to the wage demands that you have timed so inappropriately.” The company denied claims regarding health and safety at the workplace saying all complaints actually just related to the cold working conditions, which employees had called ‘unbearable’. Regarding these claims, Seena, in its letter on behalf of Best Cheer Group, said, “Not only did our client take pre-emptive measures to issue all employees with warm clothing, it also contacted the NEHC to conduct a full ‘Cold Stress Analyses.” The company also commented on an incident which had taken place a few weeks ago, when an employee allegedly almost suffered a fatal occupational accident. It also referred to the case of another employee who operated a jackhammer, who had allegedly developed urinary complications as direct result of his occupational activities. He had claimed that the company appeared unbothered and unwilling to medically assist him, despite having reported this to his supervisors. “It is correct that some weeks ago an employee suffered a work related injury after his overall got caught in the rotating shaft of a water pump and as a result of the injury sustained the employee was
declared medically unfit for duty. To describe the injury as 'near fatal' is a gross exaggeration.” The company has furthermore stated that the area in which the incident occurred is situated at the dam, from which water is pumped to the factory, is not a normal work station and since the incident no employee has been called upon to perform any work at that specific site. “This will remain the case until such a time the company has had the opportunity to do a full risk assessment and has taken the appropriate measures, should that be necessary. The employee has since been placed on light duty whilst awaiting an opening at Medics for a full medical evaluation. It does however need to be stated that the employee has not been in our client’s employment for a full month. Although it is not impossible that his duties, as a jackhammer operator, may have contributed to the development of his urinary infection it is by no means a foregone conclusion.” Best Cheer Group also said the 'no work, no pay' rule would apply as long as workers stayed away. On their return employees would also all receive a final warning, to be made valid for a period of six months, from the date of issue The company also said it would not engage in wage negotiations with the Union whilst the strike was ongoing. The workers are allegedly refusing to go back before their problems are solved, and have expressed their
disappointment in the factory regarding safety and other concerns where the situation remained unchanged. Some of the workers’ demands include an 11% increase on their salaries, safety measures to be taken regarding their safety at the workplace, because injuries on duty are increasing, and that the company sign a recognition agreement with their union, as they feel their union is not being considered when it comes to making decisions. They want the company to not only pay lip service but truly adjust their salaries, and also to pay out a 13th cheque at the end of the year. The General Secretary of NANLO, and representing the Maritime, Mining, Metal and Construction Workers Union affiliated to NANLO, Kleopas Taapopi, has confirmed that they sent an email to the company last week Thursday. “We sent the email but they did not give feedback, we just heard from the shop steward who was apparently called in to the office by someone from management, that they could not reply to the email because of network problems.” Taapopi further said the workers were allegedly also served with ultimatum letters on Monday, 14 September. The stone factory is part of the Chinese international corporation, Best Cheer Stone Group, which has invested N$300 million in the venture.
national salary market and continue to gain recognition for being the employer of choice within the industry in Walvis Bay. It points to mutual commitment to future sustainability of the company as well as increased levels of tolerence and co-operation within the organisation,” he said. The Chief Executive Officer of EBH, Mr Hannes Uys said despite the challenges they faced as a result of the low oil price, they remained committed to maintain a stable and positive workforce through focused skills development. An agreement which amounts to 9% increase to the monthly wage bill was reached on 8 September and according to Mr Chizabulyo, 746 emplyees will benefit from this increase. “The management of EBH
Mr Patrick Kamwi Chizabulyo signing the wage agreement along with Mr Paulus Awala believes in a harmonious relationship with the Trade Union as a strategic partner in advancing the interest of both the company and employees. In conclusion we extend our gratitude to the Union and to all employees for their positive spirit in which the negotiations of 2015 were conducted,” he said. On a question whether the sub-contractors EBH used are local sub-contractors, a spokesperson has confirmed that preference is given to local suppliers and sub-contractors. “It is only when products
and services are not available locally that we are forced to source outside the Erongo Region. As an ISO 9001 accredited shipyard, all suppliers or sub-contractors need to comply with our vetting system prior to the engagement of services. The EBH approved local supporting industries are efficient and together with EBH’s world class facilities, well equipped workshops and skilled workforce; makes Walvis Bay an attractive docking option for many foreign ship owners,” she concluded.
“Airport Tower and Pilots Communicated Until 18 Seconds Before Air Ambulance Crash” Continued from page 1 protocols and the routines. He says they’ll wait for the report. They have great respect for Williams, and trust him in his role. Williams will be in Namibia until the weekend – Williams has already done more than 100 plane crash investigations, and he is also a master of the psychological dimension of an investigation like this. Struwig was on his way to Swakopmund when namib times spoke to him yesterday. He will attend the fune-
ral of the E-Med Rescue 24 Namibia paramedic, Alfred John Ward (23), who was one of the victims of the crash. Ward’s mortal remains arrived in Swakopmund yesterday, and was received by his father, Terrance Ward, who said they were relieved that their son was home. His funeral service will start tomorrow at 9:00 in the Apostolic Faith Mission Church in Franciska van Neel street, Tamariskia.

The HR Manager of EBH, Mr Patrick Kamwi Chizabulyo, said they were delighted over the successful conclusion of the annual wage negotiations with its bargaining unit. The bargain unit employees were represented by the Mining, Metal, Maritime and Construction Union (MMMC) which signed the Recognition Agreement with the company in March 2015. “The wage negotiations which commenced on 29 May took place in a challenging economic climate, particularly for the downstream oil and gas sector. Narraville welcomes Harry Van Reenen Street Continued from page 1 of background about his granddad. “In 1962 when Narraville was not more than sand and shrubs from the Namib Desert, a young entrepreneur from Port Nolloth, South Africa, saw the need to supply the small population of Narraville with a grocery store named Van’s Bazaar later known as Van’s Supermarket, which was the first shop in Narraville. The community of Narraville thus had no need to travel long distances into the main central business district of Walvis Bay, just to obtain basic necessities. Mr Van Reenen then used the store to answer to the further needs of a
growing coloured community. When the first primary school opened in Walvis Bay, named Narraville Primary School, Van’s Bazaar enabled the school to have their first school uniform in 1964. Harry van Reenen continued to build up Narraville when he opened up the first couloured hotel in South West Africa, named Desert Inn in 1965. The hotel and supermarket brought about great interest in Narraville. Members from the Municipality of Walvis Bay and the United Nations came to the inauguration of the hotel. Mr van Reenen still did not stop there; he then
erected numerous apartments adjacent to the hotel and supermarket, to accommodate the vast and increasing population of Narraville, as a result of Desert Inn and a growing Port. Omar van Reenen called his grandfather's achievements true milestones in the history of Walvis Bay and Namibia. “It was not easy to do business as a coloured man during the apartheid era, much less as an illiterate man. Nevertheless, Mr van Reenen continued to aspire and become successful, he did this with determination and ingenuity, together with his wife’s help he became a legend
and a shining example to all who knew him and left this legacy for his children and grandchildren for generations to come. He has truly made Narraville the warm hearted community community that it is today, to those who call Narraville home one can truly say that the once Albatros Street is the heartbeat of Narraville.” Omar said in a tribute to his grandfather that the late Mr Van Reenen has been a personal inspiration to all of his grandchildren; and that they were aspiring to be just like him, someone with determination, a passion for success, a pioneer for the community and an astounding leader leaving a

Workshop Participants
“Know yourself, Know your Neighbour" Sharlien Tjambari The two-day workshop about the establishment of the Nationhood and National Pride (NNP) Forum continued on Tuesday, 15 September with a recap of day one, group assignments and brainstorming sessions on ways of generating funds for the forum. During the workshop, the delegates identified some possible stakeholders whom they believe will help with the forum, possible activities for the forum and how they will mobilise funds. One important aspect the delegates thought was important was to educate
the communities on "know yourself, know your neighbour". The delegates believes that knowing each other plays a vital role in Nationhood. There are so many people in our society who have no idea how their neighbours look like, they barely talk to their neighbours and
all they know is maybe the type of car their neighbour drives. It is of crucial importance that you know your neighbour so that you can help each other in times of need, it does not cost a thing. Other matters discussed were, why the youth like wearing other nationality colours and
not Namibian colours, delegates also looked at ways to promote national colours, home-made products and traditional food and drinks. Some of the objectives of NNP forum are to further consolidate peace and stability, to instil a spirit of belonging, to address issues of violence against
women and children, alcohol abuse, to strengthen public family life programs, citizens "roots" connections and sense of belonging and many more. The workshop aimed at training members of the community who will form part of the NNP regional forum, but due to a low number of attendees, the forum was not established. At the end of the workshop, the organisers from Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) choose an Interim Committee which will lead to the establishment of the Forum. The committee is inviting everyone who wants to be part of the forum to attend the meeting which will be in two weeks' time, a date and time for the next meeting still need to be confirmed. Be on the look-out for the date of the meeting, keep yourself updated and informed. For further questions contact the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.
Julie to be laid to rest tomorrow Madelaine Laubscher Mr Christopher Julie (58) who died on Monday morning when he allegedly had a heart attack while he was driving to Swakopmund, will be laid to rest tomorrow morning.
Mr Christopher Julie
According to a relative, Mr Angelo Julie, Christopher's funeral service will take place at the Catholic Church in Narraville at 09:00. “A memorial service will be held tonight and tomorrow will be my uncle's funeral,” he said. According to a trusted source, the deceased was on his way to Swakopmund to see his doctor when he died. “It seems
Christopher was not feeling well on Monday and he never notified anybody that he was going to drive to Swakopmund to see his doctor. While he was driving he had a heart attack. His car veered off the road and came to a standstill. When the paramedics arrived he had already passed away,” the source alleged. Mr Julie was a wellknown resident of Walvis Bay. According to Angelo Julie, his uncle Christopher was known for founding Exert Garage with his brother almost 40 years ago. He was also known as a prolific dart player. “He played darts for many years and the people loved him very much,” Angelo Julie said.

Clinics at Universities Not Answer to Baby Dumping: Mushelenga WINDHOEK, 17 September - Expanding clinics to all tertiary institutions in the country in order to address the problem of unwanted pregnancies and baby dumping may not be the answer to these social problems. Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Peya Mushelenga made these remarks during a debate at the National Assembly (NA) in the capital on Wednesday. He said if one looks at the six State clinics in Windhoek, one also has to look at the distance between clinics and schools in rural areas and thus, the motion should not only serve urban institutions as it is a national problem that is not only confined to urban Namibia. Windhoek currently has six State clinics - the Khomasdal, Robert Mugabe, Donkerhoek, Wanaheda, Okuryungava and Hakahana clinics. He said medical clinics should not only be considered for tertiary institutions, but boarding schools in the regions as well – an approach already applied by the health ministry to bring heath services closer to rural communities. He proposed that mobile medical teams visit schools around the regions. “I am not sure that we really need 24-hour operational clinics at the institutions. Some of the students have medical aid from their parents, and may opt to go to private doctors, which should also be taken into consideration,” he said. Oral Health Day commemoration “Smile for Life” Liesl Losper Oral Health Awareness Day in Namibia is commemorated on 12 September every year. This year the awareness campaign has been running for a whole week and ended on Friday at the Kuisebmond Municipality hall under the theme, “SMILE FOR LIFE”. Grade 6 learners from several schools were invited to this event. They celebtrated the day with drama, poetry and song. Delegates of the Dental Health Department, together with those of other organisations who have an interest in maintaining oral health, shared interesting information with the learners and all present. Walvis Bay Mayor Uilika Nambahu delivered the key note address at this event. “I trust that through this kind of oral health awareness raising all of us here will learn more about maintaining good oral hygiene practices to prevent oral diseases such as tooth decay and gum disease. The Municipality of Walvis Bay is a proud strategic partner of the Ministry of Health and Social Services in educating the community about the importance of health and wellness,” she said. In the spirit of oral hygiene, the municipality recently travelled to the Utuseb School at Rooibank to distribute over 200 parcels containing toothpaste and toothbrushes to the learners as well as protective soaps, sponsored by Indo Atlantic. The director of ceremonies, Dr Hange, the Walvis Bay district dentist, expressed his appreciation towards Colgate. “We would like to thank Colgate for its remarkable support.” The learners also received Colgate toothpaste and a toothbrush. The day ended with refreshments for all the guests and hot dogs and cool drinks for all the learners present.

Obtaining Fishing
Permits WHY? The marine resources are limited and currently some of them are overfished or over collected. It is necessary that everybody uses them wisely and carefully to secure the future harvesting needs by protecting the stock. Quantity/number of marine resources harvestable, minimum size limits of fish and crayfish that can be caught, open season etc. help to manage stocks to avoid the total disappearance of some species in our waters. Do not leave bait or fish on the beach! Either take it home or return it to the sea. This food attracts scavengers like jackals and gulls that prey on other bio-diversity. When you are back home after the holiday, it also inflates the predator population. Where can you get a license for angling, crayfish diving & bait/mussels collection?

Langer Heinrich Uranium Supports Fight against Poaching Langer Heinrich Uranium(LHU) has shown solidarity with the Fight against Poaching, when the company handed over a refurbished Ranger Station to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism last Friday. The station will be used for monitoring and figthing against poaching. The Ranger Station is situated in the Namib Naukluft Park on the Northern side of the Swakop River, 30km from the LHU Mine Site. Mr Richard Kangumba, the environmental management superintendent, said poaching in Namibia is increasing and it is for this reason that Langer Heinrich Uranium decided to consider the renovation of the Park Ranger Station House. The Renovation on the park house commenced in June 2014 and was completed in three months, mainly due to the amount of work that was needed to be done, as well Back row from right: Mr. Richard Kangumba (Superintendent Environmental Management), Mr. Johnson Ndokosho as the location of the (Deputy Director of central regions). Arbor Day Celebrated
NAMIB TIMES 7
Sharlien Tjambari
On 16 September, the Swakopmund Municipality celebrated Arbor Day with Hanganeni Primary School. Arbor Day is a day dedicated to raising awareness and celebrating the planting of trees and shrubs. During the event ten trees and shrubs were planted on the premises of Hanganeni Primary School. The Mayor of Swakopmund, Nehemia Solomon, officiated the event. He says
the town portrays an open-air classroom which offers unique ecosystems that serve as opportunities for education and awareness creation of the importance of conserving our environ-
ment and its biodiversity. The Mayor further reminded Namibians that they all have responsibilities towards the conservation of the environment. He therefore urged residents of Swakopmund to join the municipality in making the town a world class sustainable and greener town, which all can be proud of. This initiative has been running for seven consecutive years.

Beste vriend/in
Jy moet maar self besluit as jy my ken, of vra as jy my nie ken nie, of dit is soos ek dink of sou dink. Of raai, of spekuleer, of wonder maar net, of skinder daaroor.. Dalk weet iemand teenoor wie jy skinder wat die antwoord is. Ek sal nooit die dag in my lewe vergeet nie. Ons was nie lank in Swakopmund nie. Ek waag dit toe om as hierdie heilige do-
Op ‘n stadium sê hy vir my: “Man dis omdat jy net koeldrank drink dat jy so suur is, wie is jy nou eintlik?” Dalk het jy vir my antwoorde, of raad. Miskien, net miskien skryf ek Maandag verder daaroor. Dit hang alles af van jou reaksie. Maroeti DD

Dear 'Dog Attack' Thank you for putting me in the newspaper. At least I can feel important. It is just a pity that you did not tell the whole truth. And what made my day was the Bible verse directly below the story. My dog (see her size and no teeth in her mouth) was not going for you, but for a dog walking behind you and she was only barking! The fact that you were shocking her with a cellphone or something else inspired me to hit you with a sling bag which had a few pens in it. I did not see any blood coming out of you! The owner of the car of
which you took a photo had nothing to do with it and he was very upset with me and I herewith apologize for his car registration number in your possession. I drove back to the beach with my car so that you could take a photo of my car registration number but you have vanished within a few minutes! I could easily report you for shocking my dog but I assumed that you did it out of fear. Wonder if you would also do it if it was a rat? Regards Martie Coetzee

90% El Niño from October to December WINDHOEK, 16 SEP (NAMPA) – There is a 90 per cent chance that an El Niño will develop during the October to December period, according to the Southern Africa Food Security Outlook for the period July to December 2015. Community (SADC) Region. “If these El Niño conditions were realised during the 2015-16 season, this would be the second consecutive year of poor rainfall for the southern parts of the region,” it cautioned.
These conditions might result in a late start of the 2015/16 agriculture season in the southern parts of Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, which could limit labour opportunities, according to the outlook.
What is El Niño and what does this mean for Africa… El Niño (Spanish pronunciation: [el ninjo]) is the warm phase of the El Niño Southern Oscillation (commonly called ENSO) and is associated with a band of warm ocean water that develops in the central and east-central equatorial Pacific (between approximately the International Date Line and 120°W), including off the Pacific coast of South America. El Niño Southern Oscillation refers to the cycle of warm and cold temperatures, as measured by sea surface temperature, SST, of the tropical central and eastern Pacific Ocean. El Niño is accompanied by high air pressure in the western Pacific and low air pressure in the eastern Pacific. The cool phase of ENSO is called «La Niña” with SST in the eastern Pacific below average and air pressures high in the eastern and low in western Pacific. The ENSO cycle, both El Niño and La Niña, causes global changes of both temperatures and rainfall. Mechanisms that cause the oscillation remain under study. Developing countries dependent upon agriculture and fishing, particularly those bordering the Pacific Ocean,
are the most affected. InSpanish, the capitalized term “El Niño” refers to the Christ child, “el Niño Jesús” (literal translation “The Boy”). La Niña, chosen as the ‘opposite’ of El Niño, literally means “The Girl.” El Niño was so named because periodic warming in the Pacific near South America is often noticed around Christmas. A recent study has reported a robust tendency to more frequent extreme El Niños, occurring in agreement with a separate recent model prediction for the future. El Niño is defined by prolonged warming in the Pacific Ocean sea surface temperatures when compared with the average value. The U.S NOAA definition is a 3-month average warming of at least 0.5 °C (0.9 °F) in a specific area of the eastcentral tropical Pacific Ocean, other organisations define the term slightly differently. Typically, this anomaly happens at irregular intervals of two to seven years, and lasts nine months to two years. The average period length is five years. When this warming occurs for seven to nine
months, it is classified as El Niño «conditions»; when its duration is longer, it is classified as an El Niño «episode». The first signs of an El Niño are a weakening of the Walker circulation or trade winds and strengthening of the Hadley circulation and may include: Rise in surface pressure over the Indian Ocean, Indonesia, and Australia. Fall in air pressure over Tahiti and the rest of the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. Trade winds in the south Pacific weaken or head east. Warm air rises near Peru, causing rain in the northern Peruvian de-

Issued on Tuesday by the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (Fewsnet), it warned that historically, El Niño conditions are associated with below average and erratic rainfall in the southeastern parts of the Southern African Development
The Etosha Pan during a moonlight walk in July last year serts. El Niño’s warm rush of nutrient-poor water heated by its eastward passage in the Equatorial Current, replaces the cold, nutrient-rich surface water of the Humboldt Current. When El Niño conditions last for many months, extensive ocean warming and the reduction in easterly trade winds limits upwelling of cold nutrient-rich deep water, and its economic impact to local fishing for an international market can be serious. More generally, El Niño can affect commodity prices and the macroeconomy of different

countries - and not always for the worst. It can constrain the supply of rain-driven agricultural commodities; reduce agricultural output, construction, and services activities; create food-price and generalised inflation; and may trigger social unrest in commodity-dependent poor countries that primarily rely on imported food. A University of Cambridge Working Paper shows that while Australia, Chile, Indonesia, India, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa face a short-lived fall in economic activity in
response to an El Niño shock, other countries may actually benefit from an El Niño weather shock (either directly or indirectly through positive spillovers from major trading partners), for instance, Argentina, Canada, Mexico and the United States. Furthermore, most countries experience short-run in-flationary pressures following an El Niño shock, while global energy and non-fuel commodity prices increase. A recent study has appeared applying network theory to the analysis of El Niño events; the study presented
evidence that the dynamics of a described «climate network» were very sensitive to such events, with many links in the network failing during the events. In Africa, East Africa including Kenya, Tanzania, and the White Nile basin - experiences, in the long rains from March to May, wetterthan-normal conditions. A film crew from Argentina and one of Namibia who is shooting a few scenes of a movie called The Hiden Sky, were seen in action in Walvis Bay, from Tuesday until yesterday - and it is the first time ever that Argentina and Namibia are collaborating in filming a 18 SEPTEMBER 2015 movie. The Director, Pablo César from Argentina, told namib times that the movie holds drama, mystery and suspense. “This will be the first time that Namibia and Argentina will be working together on a movie and we have support from the governments of both countries. We’ll be shooting for 25 days in Namibia and in October we’ll start shooting in Argentina, also for 25 days. We believe the movie will be released next year in April,” he said. According to César, the story is about an Argentinian Antropologist working along with a Namibian woman who is living amongst the Damara people to gather information about the qualities of civilisation in the ancient times. “In the movie the main two characters are Hermes and Lavina. Hermes (the antropologist) meets with Lavina (the Namibian woman working for the NGO organisation) and live amongst the Damara people to gather information as they believe that civilisation that existed in older times was of high standard

He has co-produced many films in South Africa, Argentina, Indonesia, Mali,

The Municipality and local people are very helpful. It is ultimately the first time that Namibia is part of a co-production with Argentina. New Mission Films (Namibia) and César Productions (Argentina) are the twon companies in collaboration on this movie.

Good Support for “Night of 1 000 Images” Initiative Sponsors are stepping up in doing their bit for a fundraising initiative to buy cerebral palsy sufferer Doloris Boer a custom made wheelchair. Doloris and her mother, Venessa, had the good fortune to receive a sponsorship from CHAIN (Children with Handicaps Action in Namibia) for a fitting by Shonaquip, a Cape Town manufacturer of custom made wheelchairs. Although CHAIN has not the funding to buy a wheelchair at the moment, they decided to help in the fundraising initiative for Doloris by sponsoring a fitting when Shonaquip made their yearly visit to CHAIN. Each child’s specific needs differ, and assessments need to be made on the child’s expected growth, her mobility and self-support needs, before an individual prescription can be
made for the most appropriate device. Shonaquip not only helps with fittings, but with all future modifications, customisation, maintenance and repair. Maria Britz, a Shonaquip physiotherapist, did the fitting and made the suggestion that, in Doloris’ case, the wheelchair called “Madiba 2Go” will be perfect for her, because of her inability to sit up and keep her head up, on her own. The support of the community at the coast has been overwhelming and with sponsorship from Atlantic Villa Guest House, Champion’s Trust, Hawk Photography, Travel Smart, Michiel Coetzee Architects and various anonymous

Und was sagt Wikipedia dazu?

Versatility made to order in the new Mercedes-Benz Vito Offering tangible external strengths, maximum benefit and low costs, the new Mercedes-Benz Vito is a versatile and real professional among midsize vans with a permissible gross vehicle weight between 2.8 and 3.05 tonnes. Although it offers an exceptionally high payload, the purchase price and maintenance costs are exceptionally low. From skilled crafts and trades to retail, service providers and shuttle services - the new Vito is truly one vehicle for all. The Vito panel van is
available with two different drive systems and with up to 1344 kg of cargo capacity, it has the highest payload in its class. Meanwhile the Mixto combines the advantages of a panel van with those of a people mover, which we like to refer to as the Tourer. The Tourer sees Mercedes-Benz
opening an entirely new chapter in passenger transport. There are two versions available: the versatile Vito Tourer PRO and the premium Vito Tourer SELECT. By virtue of this complete model family, the Tourer can be tailored to accommodate all types of passenger transport.
The new Vito creates an assertive and unmistakable impression but its design is not an end in itself. Even at first glance the new Vito's bodywork exudes high quality and both drivers and occupants get the impression the vehicle can handle any task thrown at it. Whatever the engine variant, every new Vito benefits from long service intervals of up to 40 000 km or two years.
Mercedes-Benz Vans continues to escalate the Vi t o ' s v a l u e a n d decrease its total cost of ownership by increasing the Tourer and Mixto service plans from the previous 5year/90 000 km to an unprecedented 5-year /120 000 km service

7th Rock Spitzkoppe Community Run and Mountain Bike Challenge 2015 Great Success AREVA Namibia hosted The Rock Spitzkoppe Community Run and Mountain Bike Challenge 2015 for the seventh consecutive year on 12 September, as part of its Corporate Social Investment programme focused on communities.
AREVA team Male half marathon
The Rock event is a foot and cycle race organised by OTB Sport and respectively presented by the Coastal Cycling Club and cosponsored by AREVA Namibia and Gecko Drilling. A record entry of 660 sport enthusiasts participated in the 21.1 km half marathon walk/run, 10 km walk/run and cycling category of 66km endurance and 33km ride in the scenic Spitzkoppe mountains and surrounding gravel plains, while community members assisted as marshals at water points on the routes. This recreational outdoor experience benefits the local community economically by means of income generation as shareholders of the Spitzkoppe Camp Management. AREVA employees donated their unused shoes to community members who previously participated barefoot; a welcome gift in these harsh conditions. According to AREVA's Managing Director, Hilifa Mbako, “our commitment to sport and community upliftment remains a priority, even though the Trekkopje Mine has been in care and maintenance mode for more than two years, due to the downturn in the global uranium market. The event has become a highlight on the annual sport calendar in Namibia due to the Spitzkoppe venue, sports activities and community support as responsible stakeholders.

Namibia’s Tenth Medal at Africa Games
Ananias Shikongo has won the T11 200-metre race at the All Africa Games to add a second gold medal to his and the country’s medal count. Shikongo ran the race in 23-seconds. ‘T’ refers to Track and 11 to the lowest level of visual impairment. T11 athletes run with a guide and are blindfolded. Earlier Thursday, the 100-metre men relay team at the All-Africa
Games in the Congo Republic’s capital, Brazzaville, won a silver medal for Namibia after a photo finish with Zambia. The Namibian relay team initially got bronze, but after the disqualification of the winners Nige-
ria for running in their lane, silver was awarded. Namibia has up to yesterday (Thursday) afternoon won two gold, three silver and five bronze medals at the Games.

Namibian athletes qualify for 2016 Rio Paralympics Namibia’s T11 100 metre athletes, Ananias Shikongo and Moses Tobias qualified for the 2016 Rio Summer Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after recording impressive times at the 11th edition of the All Africa Games (AAG). The AAG started on 4 September in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo and ends this weekend. On Monday, Shikongo and Tobias beat the 12.30 seconds, which is the required time for athletes to qualify for the Summer Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 7-18 September 2016. Shikongo and Tobias both have visual impairments. T11 100 metre athletes
run blindfolded with the aid of a guide. Tobias clocked 12.19 seconds in heat-two with the help of his guide, Andre Oberholser, while Shikongo and guide Sem Simanda recorded the best time of 11.40 seconds in all the heats on Monday. Speaking to Nampa after the qualifiers, Shi-
kongo said the AAG are “simple games” for him and he is happy to have recorded the best time to qualify for the 2016 Rio Games. “Qualifying for Rio makes me work hard on my fitness from now on. I will be an African champion when I get to Rio; that means I am going to hammer them,
because those Americans and Brazilian’s are my competitors,” he stated. Tobias said that it was the first time he ran under 12.50 seconds and this showed him that he can still improve on his time ahead of Rio. “I always run 12.89 seconds but this is good encouragement for me as
an athlete, and I should thank my guide who always encourages me that I can make it. I am really happy to have run this time at the All Africa Games,” said Tobias. Orberholser added that they now have enough time on their hands to start preparing together for Rio, and he is hope-
ful they can run under 12.00 seconds in the future. This is the first time Tobias is participating in an international event of this magnitude. He was eliminated in the semi-finals of the T11 100 metres, while Shikongo won the gold medal in that race. Before that, he won
a bronze medal at the 2013 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Championships in Lyon, France and is the current African T11 200m champion. In 2012, he was crowned Disabled Sportsman of the Year at the MTC/ Namibia Sports Commission Sports Awards.
Kickboxers receive Black Belts Madelaine Laubscher
Delano Müller (11), along with Olivier Sebastian Becker-Stauder (18), Lesley Hoaëb (24) and Danie DeWet Bachmann (16) all received their black belts in kickboxing at a training session on Saturday at the Walvis Bay Kickboxing Club. The session was held for the tour group that will be going to Stellenbosch in October. The Walvis Bay Kickboxing Club Sensei, Mrs Dorothy Bachmann, said, “Delano received his first junior black belt. Olivier and Danie received their senior black belts. Lesley received his black belt which is his Delano Müller, one of the first grading in black juniors
belt. It is of a higher standard than the normal black belt. I also received my third black belt from Shihan Phil Andersons.” The group will be going to Stellenboch for their grading. “I am very proud of all of them. They are all a
very good example to everyone. One has to be quite devoted to this sport and one must have strong willpower to get this far in kickboxing, as well as to set such a good example for others,” she said. According Shihan Phil
Andersons, these four youngsters are on international standard in kickboxing. “They are an example to every kickboxer out there,” Mrs Bachmann concluded.
