Swakopmund teacher arrested on rape charge Had sexual relations with minor girl Sharlien Tjambari A 37-years-old male teacher from a well-known Swakopmund primary school remains in police custody following his arrest some days ago on a charge of rape. It is alleged he had a sexual relationship with a student who was in his class in Grade 7. The minor girl in the meantime moved on to a secondary school where she is now in Grade 9. The Namibian Police is investigating when this sexual relationship started and for how long. Also, the possibility he targeted other minor girls as well. The passenger liner Albatross was scheduled to dock at the new passenger liner terminal in the port of Walvis Bay at 07:00 this morning. The ship would have made history as the first ever passenger liner to dock at this newly completed passenger liner terminal. History will for now first be put on hold, as the Albatross must take on bunkering (supplies) and that can still only be conducted from the bulk terminal area. This accompanying front page picture was taken in January this year showing the terminal as finishing touches is put to it. In the background a passenger liner docked at the bulk terminal area, the same where Albatross will also still have to dock today.

Fall from seventh floor ends in death Rudi Bowe A former Walvis Bay resident died in a Windhoek hospital on Wednesday, a day after she fell from the seventh floor of an apartment complex in Windhoek's city centre. The 25-year-old Marion (Milla) Kanao is believed to have accidently slipped and fell over the balcony wall of an apartment in the Freedom Plaza building complex. A broken Mrs Marlina Kusch told the Namib Times in an interview in Walvis Bay yesterday she believes her daughter slipped and fell from the balcony and that it was not suicide. Adding she personally visited the apartment from where her daughter fell. The balcony walls are very low (pictured below) and it is possible a person could fall over it. Kanao is believed to have arrived at a party on Tuesday night under the influence of alcohol. She was taken to this particular apartment by a friend who said she must sleep and sober up. He would have returned later to take her home. It is believed Kanao went out onto the balcony to smoke a cigarette. She must have leaned against the balcony wall. She slipped or lost her balance and fell seven storeys. A half-smoked cigarette was found close to her where she lied in a gravely injured state, supporting the thesis the girl died as result of an accidental fall. ·In life Kanao was regarded as a polite and considerate smoker and would always opt to smoke outside. Also in her own home in Windhoek which she shared with her boyfriend.
On the picture above: Mrs Marlina Kusch with her granddaughter, the late Kanao’s child. The child permanently lives with Kusch in Walvis Bay and the late Kanao would have visited the child in Walvis Bay at whenever she had the opportunity to do so. Below: Marion Kanao was described as a good natured young woman. She had her confirmation into the Lutheran Church in Walvis Bay to the day a month before her untimely death.
Back to normal Police keeps the pressure on Production activities at the Husab Mine returned to normal after the mine's owner, Swakop Uranium reached a new “continuation of operations” agreement (CONTOPS) with workers.
The previous CONTOPS agreement lapsed on 15 September. That resulted in workers returning to schedule where production work was only conducted on week days. The new CONTOPS-agreement returned the work schedule to full-week, following the ratification of the new agreement on 8 October.

Henties Bay road now a dream to drive on
A “before and after” we can take great pride and comfort in With the holiday season fast approaching, one less head ache faces motorists and road safety law enforcers. The main road between Swakopmund and Henties Bay has been upgraded to blacktop standard. Apart from clear road markings, the road is no more slippery as in the times when it was still a salt-topped road. On the pictures above: two stretches of the road, one when construction work started several years ago and a stretch that shows a road on which every Namibian can be immensely proud of. Several road construction works are currently ongoing across Namibia, including the coastal region which is catapulting Namibia into one of the country’s on the African continent with the best developed road network.

N$5 million cannabis seized in South Africa - destined for Namibia Sources in Erongo’s drug law enforcement circles welcomed the arrest earlier this week of four suspects in Johannesburg in South Africa’s Gauteng Province for the possession of N$5 million worth of cannabis destined for Namibia. South African news organisation Media24 reports members of the Gauteng Organised Crime Narcotics Unit and the Johannesburg K-9 Unit intercepted a Quantum minibus in which the four suspects were travelling. Law enforcers confiscated N$4 worth of sealed bags of cannabis in the vehicle as well as an undisclosed amount of cash, further reports Media24. The suspect led the South African Police Service (SAPS) to a house in Meyerton in Pretoria where more cannabis was found, valued at N$1 million. The consignments were neatly packed and sealed, but the SAPS is yet to determine how, when and to what destinations the cannabis would have found its way to Namibia. With the festive holiday season approaching, Namibia and more specific the coastal region, experience a surge in drug smuggling. Drug dealers are attempting to stash up on drug supplies in anticipation of a lucrative drug trade during the holiday season, but also to reduce risk being detected in their smuggling operations during increased law enforcement activities on the country’s roads.

The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) introduced a very innovative poster this week through which its male employees want to sensitise colleagues and the wider public about the scourge of Gender-based Violence (GBV). Namibia remains in the grip of GBV. All institutions, be it public or private, need to add its weight to the process to educate the nation against violence, specifically forms of violence to which our country’s women and other vulnerable groups are falling victim to. The poster is seen above.

Man muss etwas tun.
Was man heute mit diesen Jugend-De-

Jana Grunschloss Honorary President (advisory) - Valereis Geldenhuys-Venter The public and the gymnastics community, and parents of gymnasts in particular are cautioned not to be misled by other persons claiming to be members of council. Council also noted with concern that gymnasts have been “selected” by certain individuals to represent the Namibian Gymnastics Federation and/or Namibia at international club competitions, abroad. These “selections” are rumoured to have been sanctioned by the Namibia Sports Commission. No such teams can be approved if not approved by council. The 2019 competitive gymnastics calendar is nearing the time when we are selecting gymnasts to represent the NGF at the Region5 Competition in South
Africa. No selection of any gymnasts has yet been approved by council and parents are cautioned not to assume any selection unless approved by council. Gymnasts' parents are strongly cautioned not to affect any payment for travel, accommodation or uniforms towards participation, requested by any person who cannot prove written authorisation by council. The Namibian Gymnastics Federation will accept no liability for any payments and/or decisions made by parents of gymnasts, based on misrepresentations. Long Course Gala 1 preps swimmers for season The Bank Windhoek Long Course Gala got off to a flying start with 120 swimmers that competed recently in Windhoek, Swakopmund and Oranjemund. Despite cold waters, our swimmers performed well for the first gala of the season. For most it was their first time in a 50 metre pool in over six months, and this takes some adjusting to,” said Nicky McNamara, spokesperson for the Namibian Swimming Union. “That being said we had a total of 10 new records set and in two cases the records were broken and then broken again. This is a brilliant achievement for our first Bank Windhoek Long Course Gala.” The record breakers were Rose Matyayi in two events, Sunél Badenhorst, Lena Brinkmann in two events, Ryan Steyn, André Badenhorst,Jan-Louis Mostert and Peter Brinkmann. (See list attached). McNamara said that they welcomed a number of new swimmers and a special welcome to Stones Water Polo Club who entered their first gala swimming member. “We had 977 splashes and out of that 426 personal best times were achieved,” McNamara continued. “Overall the gala was a huge success and we look forward to the next Long Course Gala # 2 which will be taking place on the 15 to 16 November 2019. In between the 50th Pupkewitz Schools gala will be taking place next weekend the 25 and 26 October 2019,” McNamara concluded. “Well done to all the participants and Bank Windhoek wishes them well in their preparation for the next gala. By being focused and goal driven we believe that each individual swimmer will reach new heights this season,” said André le Roux Public Relations Manager at Bank Windhoek.
The pair provided spectators with true eye candy as they navigated the the two rounds of 1.30m obstacles in cool, calm and collected fashion under the watchful eye of FEI Jumping Judge Mike Greef and his team. Taking extra care to stay clear in jumping the second round had a price tag to it though – a single time penalty in 65.4 seconds! And this ranks Alison third in the regional competition so far. Double clears without time penalties came from Botswana's Adele Jooste on Cordova Keanu and from Zimbabwean Judy Riddle on Valiant Prince. Of the six countries only Swaziland has yet to host its third leg. Second place behind Alison on a total of eight penalties in 52.905 seconds in the N a m i b i a n competition went to Michelle Künzle and Vo i g t s k i r c h Sovereign. The Jumping World Challenge going into its 41st edition this year gives less experienced riders wishing to compete internationally the opportunity to do so without leaving their home countries. Following the local Category A (over 1.20/1.30m) events, two riders from each of the ten regions
Kate Alison and her horse Seeis Shelton in action Photo contributed
comprising six to eight countries each will compete in a Challenge FINAL on borrowed horses. The 2019 Final will be held in Quito in the South American Country of Equador early in 2020. In Category B (over 1.10/1.20m), Kate Alison and Seeis Shelton did not fail her supporters either as she rode to victory making it three clears in three legs in a final time of 55.7 ahead of Silvia Kleyenstüber and Rathmor Water Ford (20 penalties and 57.89 seconds). Category C saw a multitude of young competitors in serious trouble over the weekend's technically taxing 1.10m courses, the best performance coming from Nicole B e c k e r a n d
SeeisSansuelo(8 jumping penalties). Thus the top spot overall went to two riders, who used their third leg as the drop score and did not ride the Gymkhana leg at the weekend. First place went to Leone Janbey and Jays Club with a final tally of 4 penalties and a time of 53.2 seconds ahead of Silvia Kleyenstüber and Rathmor Quay West with 12 penalties in 55.44 seconds. Third was Kordula Voigts on Zonjati Bon Gondolier (12 penalties in 60.67 seconds), fourth went to Nicole B e c k e r a n d SeeisSansuelo (12 penalties in 66.94 seconds) and fifth was Abigail Jamieson on Dia Gonal (20 penalties in 52.67 seconds).

Walvis Bay Golf News Last weekend 37 players turned out at the Walvis Bay Golf Course for a round of golf, in fairly good weather for the MANICA sponsored day. Jaco Marais and Gideon Kok were present on the day with Jaco that handed out the prizes after the game, with a promise to be back next year. It seems that count outs are becoming the norm at the moment as Carlos de Gouveia and John Gomes won the day on a count out on 46 points from Danie van Atwerpen and Oom Pikkie Champion. 3rd place went to Chris and Estelle Bothma on 43 points. There were 6 two clubs on the day but alas the names were not recorded but they all received $40.00. The jackpot was again not won. Wouter van Wijk has sent out the AIR NAMIBIA RACE TO CAPE TOWN results and the game is on for the last four places for the final, good luck. This coming weekend is the DESERT IRON AND STEEL Club Championships and will be played on Saturday only. 36 holes for the 'a' and 'b' divisions and 18 holes for the 'c' division and ladies, although ladies can't win the Men's championship. The 'c' division is from handicap 17 and up while the 'a' and 'b' divisions will be split on the day and obviously for 0 – 16 handicaps. Please remember to win the major prizes you need to play off the white tees. This Sunday there will be a golfer/non-golfer 5 hole full scramble social golf with tee off from 8h30. There will be a lunch included in the entry fee of 100.00 per player which also includes green fees. The rugby quarter final between the Bokke and Japan kicks off at 12h00. The only rule on the scramble competition is that the team MUST use one shot of the non-golfer before completing the hole, if not you need to add one shot to your score on that hole. It would be a nice time to bring the wife out to show her just what a difficult game golf is and how come you have to have a jaggie or two after the game – just to feel better after a bad shot, which you will continue to tell everyone for an hour after the round haha. There is a list up so please put your name on it so the catering guys know how many players to cater for. The calendar looks as follows for the next few weeks 19 October CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
DESERT IRON AND STEEL 26 October PISCS/FOX DESIGNS MONTHLY MEDAL 2 November EMBWINDA ind s/ford 9 November PISCS/FOX DESIGNS MONTHLY MEDAL 16 November INDONGO TOYOTA hidden partner 22 November MEERSIG KERK fund raiser Guys please repair divots and pitch marks. I think the committee are going to bring back the rule of fines for the whole four ball if there are pitch marks and divots left on the greens and tee boxes. Also please remember to rake the bunkers; it is just good course etiquette. The club has installed the PAY TODAY facility for all sales and green fees. Please make use of it as it makes the life of the manager a bit easier. Please ask Kurt how to install. The happy JOKER continues to evade capture and the jackpot was at 21 000 last week where Marion Krause had a chance to win the lolly, but drew the ACE of SPADES, so this week it could be up to 22 500. Just buy a ticket or two to be in the draw. The members draw was won by Darryl Swart, 500 bucks richer for just being at the club at 18h00. There are still a few members who have not paid subs. You know the rules so please do so soonest or speak to Carlos. Please just pay. On Saturday 5 October we held the very serious competition of BULLS vs WP, which has been one of our longer standing competitions, and this year sponsored by GPG Branding. The format for the day was individual stableford but the BULLS v WP was a Betterball match play. It sound confusing but it was not and winner of the day was Wynand Breytenbach on 41 points. Nardo Sardinha was second winning a count out on 38 points from Wayne Hart. Wynand Muller was 4th on 37points. 5th place went to chairman Carlos de Gouveia on 36 points. The trophy for the BULLS WP competition was shared 8 games each. On the photo is Gert Olivier jnr the BULLS captain, Tienie de Wet club captain and Boel Grobelaar WP captain in funny pants. Two clubs were registered by Pieter Heunis, Willie Els, Hannes Crafford, Wynand Breytenbach and 2 by Wayne Hart. The jackpot was not won. Photos contributed
The Gobabis Rally Rudi Bowe
The second Gobabis Rally for 2019 was hosted by the Gobabis Motor Club on Saturday. The rally consisted of nine action packed stages, stretching over more than 120km. This rally, which is part of the Namibia Motorsport Federation (NMSF) national championship, has attracted 15 entries with only nine of the teams able to successfully complete the nine stages. With just over a month left before the 51st Tara Rally hosted by the Windhoek Motor Club, some teams used the second final event for 2019 as a practice run, while others eventually teased a few nicks from their engines. With the approaching Tara in mind, some of the team stayed away to save their cars for the iconic rally and to make final adjustments. Allan Martin with his S4 class J&P Hydraulics 4x4 VW Polo S2000 is possibly one of the country's most enthusiastic motor sports enthusiasts, having to race without a clutch on Saturday from stage two, but that didn't
stop Martin from finishing the hard rally barely 10 minutes slower than the winner. In the field vehicle division (OR), Bertie Smit and Dewald Visser won with his OR C class 4x2 BSCS V8 Mazda Magnum. The brothers Stefan and Lappies Labuschange are second (OR A, 4x4 Gobabis Auto Truck & Trailer V8 Land Rover) while Niekie Swart and NG Swart are third with his OR E, 4x2-Eastern 1 Stop VW Sandmaster. Martin said “The day started without any problems, but going into stage 2 the power steering started to give problems and to make it even worse the clutch fell away”. Martin added that they could fix the power steering problem but couldn't fix the hydraulic slave cylinder and that he drove the last six stages without a clutch. “I had to start the car in first gear and literally use the starter to get the car going but after a long day of
problems we managed to get a 2nd in our Class and 2nd Overall” Martin added. Martin thanked Gobabis Motor Club for an amazing event. The overall forerunner in the championship, Jaco Redelinghuys, and his navigator Dries Booysen in their (S4 class) 4x4 Gobabis Toyota Yaris S2000 could only complete two of the super-fast stages. Johan and Joe Oosthuizen (S2), 4x2 Ford Saphire (SS0), Etienne van der Heever and Willy van Wyk (S1), 4x2 Toyota Auris (SS7), DeWet du Plessis and Connan Campbel (S3), 4x2-BMW (SS3), and WidoBartch and Raymond Fourie's OR C Class Safewear 4x2 Ford Courier (SS1) did not smoke the pipe. The Total Tara Rally that will kicks off outside Swakopmund on November 21 and ends November 23 in Windhoek at the Tony Rust Race course, is the last event of the year where teams can

Namibia Inline Hockey League concludes The final club tournament of the Namibian Ice- and Inline Hockey Association (NIIHA) was recently hosted by Swakopmund based Coastal Pirates Inline Hockey Club at the Dome. This tournament has been taking place over the past 20 years already and is an annual event on the NIIHA Inline Hockey Calendar. Whereas it started off with only a few teams, the number of Inline Hockey Clubs in Namibia and player numbers increased, such that the tournaments have grown to approx. A total of 120 games being played in the schedule, on two Inline Hockey Rinks at Coastal Pirates over a weekend and over 5 days on one rink with the Windhoek and Otjiwarongo based clubs. The importance of this final club tournament lies in the fact, that it provides the last chance for teams to secure a place in the top 4 teams on the league placing. This will enable the teams to play in the Theo's SuperSpar NIIHA end of the season Championship and ultimately compete for the win in the league, the gold medals and the NIIHA Champs Trophies. This final Interclub tournament will hone the skills of inline hockey players and bring out a fighting spirit amongst players. This in turn pushes players and teams harder and thereby pushing the level of the game to higher standards. There were 10 divisions at most tournaments and a B-League (with 10 U and 12U teams) with each NIIHA member club rostering one team, with some clubs being able to roster two teams in some divisions (such as 8U, 12U, 14U, 16U, Ladies, OPEN). NIIHA has five member clubs covering 3 regions in Namibia, with the sport having grown

tremendously over the years! Inline Hockey started in 1995 with players taking on the game on a parking area with the bare minimum of player gear and only 10 years later Namibia qualified for the World Champs and we have not looked back since, with the Namibia Junior Men finished in the top 8 with a proud 6th place during the World Roller Games and Champs 2019 in Barcelona! At the NIIHA Champs, the first round comprises the 3rd seed playing the 2nd seed and the 4th seed playing the 1st seed, where after the team's progress to play for the final placing, medals and trophies. The annual awards for Top Scorer, Top Assist and Top Goaltender will also be presented to the players. The NIIHA Champs qualifications are as per the standing after five tournaments played at the five different clubs throughout the year with the top four ranked teams qualify for the NIIHA Champs to be held 01-03 November in Swakopmund at the Dome. Eleven Coastal Pirates teams qualified over the ten divisions. Each of the four qualifying teams per division start on a level playing field at the Champs and each one stands the chance to win the Champs. Ranked 1 and 4 plays each other and ranked 2 and 3 play each other. The winners of these two games battle it out in a final game to win the Champs, the other two teams battle it out for third and forth position. This promise to be an action packed event with the best Inline Hockey being presented, for both players and spectators. Photos contributed.

Alfons Kiesewetter
The cyclists competed against countries like Reunion, South Africa, Lithuania, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Slovakia, Netherlands and Mauritius. Out of the five cyclists from the Erongo Region, only Alfons Kiesewetter, Luanne van der Schyff and Raquel Coimbra finished the tour. Going with the expectation to have fun on the bicycle with their team, Anna-Mart Kruger and Helene Wigget had to withdraw from the tour due to an unforeseen family emergency and had to return to Namibia. On day two of the tour, Luanne was five minutes behind 3rd place and on the final day she was the 4th solo woman, only 44 seconds behind 3rd place. Luanne finished the 180 km tour with a total time of 8:23:59. Raquel was the 7th solo woman with a total time of 9:09:48. Out of a big group of solo men, Alfons came in with 59th place with a time of 8:13:40. “Expect amazing views, tough climbs and lovely single tracks in a hot and humid environment.” Luanne told the Namib Times in a telephonic interview. She says it is a bucket list race for sure and they will be back for more in the future. She concluded by saying: “Some of the best moments were cooling down in the rivers you had to cycle through.”
