“Your father caused the accident” - Defence Advocate insists collision on Dippenaar’s side of the road Erwin Leuschner
Antonia Joschko, the key-witness in the Dippenaar murder trial spent more than five hours on the witness stand on Wednesday and Thursday under a gruelling cross-examination by Jandré Dippenaar's defense, Advocate Louis Botes. Dippenaar is among other charges accused of having caused the deaths of six people in a vehicle accident on the Swakopmund-Henties Bay road on 29 December 2014. Joschko is the sole survivor of her family, after her father, mother and sister died when their vehicle and that of Dippenaar's was involved in a head-on collision. Three people in Dippenaar's vehicle also died. After leaving the witness stand the case was postponed for continuation of trial in November this year. During the cross-examination on Thursday Advocate Louis Botes told Joschko that she "fabricated" her version of events and did in fact not see what happened in the split seconds of the collision. "Having regard to the real evidence we will argue that you are fabricating your story for two reasons: Firstly, you want to exonerate your father for his wrongdoings and secondly you did not observe what happened that day", Botes said. Joschko stood by her story and said that "I am telling you what I saw that day." Dippenaar is accused of having overtaken several vehicles at high speed in his FJ Cruiser on a blind crest, ploughing into the Joschko vehicle, a white Ford Ranger double cab. Of the four occupants in the Ford Ranger, only Antonia Joschko survived. She lost her father Walter Helmut Joschko, mother Stephanie Schermuck-Joschko and sister Alexandra Marlene Joschko (19). She was 16 years old at the time. After Joschko gave evidence on Wednesday, the trial resumed with a gruelling cross-examination of the witness on Thursday. During the cross-examination Magistrate Gaynor Poulton paused the trial numerous times to give the witness a break. Joschko was emotional and broke down in tears several times during cross-examination. “Our instructions are that the area of impact was on the left-hand lane (from south to north) and had your father kept to his lane, this accident would not have
Major drug bust at Henties Bay Sharlien Tjambari
The Namibian Police continues to pounce on the coast's drug underworld. In the latest results of an ongoing operation, this time in Henties Bay's Omdel suburb, drugs were found to the value of N$42 350-00 as well as more than N$43 000 in cash which is believed to be drug proceeds. The success follows only days after similar arrests during antidrug operations in Swakopmund's Mondesa suburb and Walvis Bay's Kuisebmond suburb. A 58-year old woman, Portia Ntombikayizo Zweni, was arrested on a charge of dealing in cannabis. The suspect was found with 230 grams of cannabis and 400 suspected Mandrax tablets, with a combined value of N$ 42 300-00. Cash of N$43 270-00, believed to be proceeds from the selling of drugs, were also confiscated. The accused appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate court yesterday. This incident was confirmed by the police regional crime investigations coordinator for Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu. In another incident, also at Henties Bay on Friday a 26-year old woman was arrested after half a Mandrax tablet valued at N$50 was found in her possession.

occurred," Botes explained in his cross examination. Joschko replied: "your assumptions are wrong." Advocate Botes continued: "your version of events does not tie in with the physical evidence." Joschko maintained that she did not take her eyes off the road and that she never lost consciousness after the collision - thereby witnessing the entire incident. Dippenaar, as the driver and sole survivor of the FJ Cruiser, lost consciousness and - according to his plea explanation which was handed in during the start of the trial - has no recollection of what transpired shortly before the accident up until the moment he woke up in hospital. The victims of the FJ Cruiser who died were J C Horn, Dinah Pretorius and Charlene Schoombee. According to Botes there is evidence that the point of impact was on the left-hand side of the road, indicating that Joschko's father caused the collision and was in the "wrong lane". Botes also differed that the accident did not occur on a blind crest. He showed various photographs of the terrain to support his view. "If this horrific accident occurred on a hill, the investigating officer would have mentioned it in his report," he said. Joschko maintained though that whilst the family was travelling towards Swakopmund she remembers them travelling over a small hill when suddenly a white car appeared in the windscreen - in their lane - and less than a second later the collision occurred. "But photos indicate that the accident occurred on the wrong lane", Botes said to Joschko repeated to the witness several times. "That is not true," Joschko replied. Botes also asked Joschko several times to indicate the distance between the two vehicles from the moment she first saw the FJ Cruiser and before the collision occurred. Joschko replied she cannot estimate that, "as everything happened so fast". Whilst Botes accused Joschko of fabricating her story, and that her father caused the accident, Joschko merely replied: "I know he was driving on the left-hand side. That was important for me to make that clear from the start, because I knew it would be easy for people to blame my father, because in Germany we drive on the right hand side." After Thursday's cross-examination the matter was postponed until 21 November 2017. The trial will resume with the state calling more witnesses to testify. Dippenaar is represented by Petrie Theron and Advocate Botes. The prosecution is led by State Prosecutrix Faith Chipepera-Nyaungwa.
A street fight breaks out in Swakopmund Sharlien Tjambari
A video circulated on social media of two young men embroiled in a street fight in Swakopmund's central business district, witnessed by shocked residents and tourists. The incident occurred around lunch time and leads to renewed concerns over the youth of the coastal towns walking around armed with knives and other potentially harmful weapons. In the video which was circulated on social media, the young men first insulted each other and one threatened to stab the other with an object which cannot be identified from screen grabs (above) from the video. The incident was a stone's throw from a toy store frequented by children as well as a medical practice visited by the elderly. One of the person's involved in the fight made mention that "he knew who the other one was and that he would find him". The other man provoked the other, challenging
him to make good of his threats and stab him. Pictured above: a stash of pocket knives, one of more than one thousand individual potentially dangerous weapons the Namibian Police confiscated from people in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund in recent weeks during operations to take dangerous weapons off our streets. In very alarming statistics the Police said in most cases the knives, axes, screw drivers, pistols and even toy guns were confiscated from persons under the age of 18. In many instances fights break out as a result of alcohol and drug abuse.

The Pelican Point lighthouse is back as beacon of safety for shipping in the area. One of the lighthouse’s powerful light bulbs malfunctioned just over a week ago, rendering the lighthouse ineffective at night to warn passing ships against running aground.

The Pelican Point Lighthouse is painted in black and white bands, which makes it visible from far by day. Under ordinary circumstances lighthouses are painted in red and white bands. However, given the fact that the land in the bay area is very flat, added to that the light beige colours of the dunes on the backdrop, necessitated painting the lighthouse with white and black bands to make it visible. Painting lighthouses in black and white bands to optimise visibility is described in the book “Lighthouses of Southern Africa” as a very rare exception globally.

Business women at the coast educated on finance management Sharlien Tjambari
Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Swakopmund branch in collaboration with the Financial Literacy Initiative (FLI) hosted the first ever "Women & Finance Seminar" last week Thursday, 13 July at Hotel Zum Kaizer in Swakopmund. The half day conference was aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs and women in finance. Women from across the board were all invited to come and learn from each other, share knowledge and mechanisms to balance with everyday life, personal finances and work finances. "The main aim of the conference was to empower women, educate them, to make them more financially confident
and responsible with their finances because you know in a household it is mostly the women that deal with the finances, so we just thought it will be a good platform to bring together ladies, set a date aside just to interact and share some knowledge with them" said the Head of Media and Communications at the Financial Literacy Initiative, Antonia Smith. According to Antonia, they decided to bring held the seminar
in Swakopmund after NCCI showed an interest in the Women Conference which was held in Windhoek earlier in March this year. About 50 women from Swakopmund and surrounding towns attended the seminar. Some of the topics discussed during the seminar were financial planning which looked at how one can invest in financial future, how to create wealth for yourself as a person
so that in case of emergencies you know that there is an emergency fund for you to fall back on; another topic the ladies shared was the 10 ways on succeeding in life and busi-
ness; a discussion on balancing work and life; a topic on how to be financially independed. Smith noted that through interactions with the ladies she noticed that the ladies enjoyed the seminar because they could engage and share their experiences, "and also they could learn from others that
have been through these experiences which I think is always the best thing instead of just assuming and not having some kind of source to draw the energy from. I would also say that through these wellness sessions they will learn a lot" adds Antonia. Encouraging women out there, Antonia said
"what we have learned at FLI is that it does not matter how much money you make, there is always that area that you are struggling with in managing your finances so I will definitely say that we would like to bring more initiatives like this to the coast, we are always open for partnerships" concluded Antonia.

Accommodation barge “Saipem Tad” expected alongside by Sunday One can compare that to the one-stop living quarters of personnel and storage facilities for spare parts, material and equipment. The only difference it is not a land-based facility like a building or cargo shed. It floats at sea and has to be towed as it does not have engines to propel itself. The accommodation barge, Saipem Tad, is expected to arrive off Walvis Bay on Sunday, to take in bunkers and for the refit of two of her eight anchors. Saipem Tad is an accommodation barge that is used in the offshore oil and gas industry to serve as a floating support unit for storage, accommodation and also emergency evacuation platform near operational oil rigs.

Group claims Chinese artisans chosen over Namibian artisans A group of Namibian skilled workers who could not obtain employment at China Harbour and Engineering Company (CHEC) says the award of tenders to foreign companies, at the expense of local businesses and employment amounts to colonialism. The group organised themselves into a group called the Professional Artisans Skills Organisation (PASO), to give skilled Namibians who struggle without jobs a voice. PASO yesterday demanded the Namibian Government step in and end what they say are Chinese artisans working in Namibia and that whilst the local skill exists. The Group held a peaceful demonstration on Thursday morning and delivered a petition to the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation at its Walvis Bay office. More than a thousand individual items and weapons like knives, machetes, axes, screwdrivers, small firearms and even toy guns were confiscated from people who have been wandering the streets of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund at night. The police treat all these confiscated items as potential weapons to commit crimes like robbery and housebreaking. The majority of these items were confiscated during "stop and search" operations. According to police spokesperson warrant officer Iileni Shapumba there is a very disturbing pattern recognized through these stop and search operations: Firstly, the majority if these items were confiscated from youths under the age of eighteen and secondly the majority of the persons from whom these items were confiscated late at night on the streets of Mondesa in Swakopmund and Kuisebmond in Walvis Bay. Renewable energy projects alleviate some of Namibia’s electricity woes The Governor of Erongo Clr Cleophas Mutjavikua recently admitted regional electricity supply capacity has become substantially constrained. There is an increased pressure on the supply of the electricity throughout the country. Namibia has to rely on electricity imports. Despite the constraint the Erongo Region remains pro-active to alleviate the problem, explained the Governor at his recent State of the Region Address. A 3 megawatt (MW) solar energy power plant was launched in November 2016 at Omaruru. A second will be constructed at Arandis. Another milestone was reached on 9 June this year, when a N$120 million solar power plant was commissioned at Karibib. It already produced electricity into the grid since 7 March 2017. What landlord would accept you cannot pay your rent by the 7th of each month", one of the agitated women told namib times. A second women, with several nodding in agreement, say the problem is agitated by the arrogance of some of the court's employee. "They act thus if they do us a favour and they are arrogant, unhelpful and rude”. "We are taking a stand now. Something need to be done to change the staff's attitude and for the Government to fix the system problems", they said. Clarice Sonblom Theys I have empathy with these ladies ... it's been years that they're treated in such a way. ( Stand up ladies! It's your kids' monies! Neilo Van Wyk Sadly a problem in most public places. Try being non-white and entering a white owned and run business in Swakopmund. It you are greeted its a miracle and no smile, please or thank you either. Service is a luxury that business owners cannot afford apparently Maureen Ikela They are really unfriendly and arrogant. I saw it myself when I went to assist one lady with translation. They do not greet and you should see the look on their faces. No, they must really change and do what their were appointed for.

Walvis Bay Round Table take kids to Aquarium Sharlien Tjambari
The Walvis Bay Round Table (Club No. (Club No. 36), a service club supporting the local community took children of Tutaleni Pre-Primary School pupils for an excursion to the Swakopmund Aquarium. Most of these kids have never been outside the harbour town and the excursion was a most enjoyable and learning experience. According to Jens Van Vuuren, the Secretary of the Walvis Bay Round Table, Tutaleni Pre-Primary is one of the schools to which the Club regularly donates. It is important for kids to get constructive exposure. "Today we did just that. Taking them on an excursion to expand their portfolio of life experiences. A total of 24 pre-primary children, and two teachers, went on the excursion and one could see the kids were really excited to be in Swakopmund. The aquarium was an absolute winner. They were also at the playing park by the Mole. Van Vuuren explained this is the fourth consecutive year the Club has been supporting Tutaleni Pre-Primary School. "With regard to this excursion: this is our first one. Other years we gave them Christmas gifts. We also in the past donated chairs and desks, so
that the kids can learn in a functional environment. "The kids were seated on the floor. Many of the kids are going into Grade 1 next year and we assisted with school clothing and of course lots of toys", according to van Vuuren. Upgrading the classrooms is the next project in the planning. That include educational posters, numbers, letters and other materials they need to properly prepare for Grade 1. Van Vuuren said Tutaleni Pre-Primary School has contacted the Walvis Bay Round Table for assistance, as they are in desperate need. The school currently has no place and the school operates from a shack. It houses 24 kids, including infants. The two buses which transported the learners to Swakopmund were made available by Logistics Support Services (LSS).

Media Release:
Cancer Association of Namibia AGM and Audit Results feedback
The Cancer Association of Namibia (WO30), maintaining its principles of transparency and accountability, is proud to share with the Namibian community some important information relating to our operations and how generous donations ensure that we can help fight cancer in Namibia. During the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Cancer Association of Namibia, called to order on 6 June 2017, the audited financial results of the association was presented by Grant Thornton Neuhaus Auditors to the public. As a section 21 company not for gain and a registered welfare organization, our main objectives are to serve Namibia as a communication tool to create awareness and educate on cancer. The Cancer Association of Namibia follows guidelines to support cancer patients with accommodation needs while receiving treatment; in addition to providing financial or transport assistance as governed by the policies of the association. The sustainability of any welfare organisation to ensure future operations are of critical importance. The board of directors and management of the Cancer Association of Namibia remain committed to ensure that transparency, accountability and sustainability are always adhered to in order to address this concern – especially given the sensitive economic times we find ourselves in. It is imperative to note that on average 10 Namibians are diagnosed with cancer daily and the Cancer Association of Namibia aims to make contact with as many of these patients and try to assist and support to the best of our abilities. Additionally, we strive to reach and educate the
broader public in order to attain our objectives. This is done, amongst others, though fundraising projects, awareness drives, various media campaigns, and school- and community visits. During the 2016/17 Financial Year the annual operational expenditure of the Cancer Association of Namibia amounted to N$7 047 805.00; and the income derived from projects, donations and memberships was N$7 125 458.00. For the 2017/18 Financial Year our anticipated outflow is budgeted at N$9 867 370.00. Additional to this, the budgeted capital outflow includes the development and establishment of the CAN Erongo Regional Office and Clinic at Swakopmund at an estimated investment of N$500 000; and the purchase of a patient transport vehicle at N$450 000.00. The nett surplus annually is reinvested as per the constitution of the association to ensure the sustainability of CAN for future generations. Together we have impacted lives: The Cancer Association of Namibia has several pillars we continuously build on the better assist Namibia in fighting cancer: 1) The Patient Financial Assistance Programme (PFAP) was established to support patients diagnosed with cancer financially while undergoing treatment. The programme serves as an intermediary while patients register with the Ministry of
Health and Social Services for a "Disability Grant". The PFAP extended support of N$1 818 311.00 during the last financial year. 2) House Acacia Interim Home is a refuge of hope to all receiving treatment in Namibia. Operating at a budgeted N$640 000 per annum, the groceries accounts of the House Acacia alone was recorded at N$114 361.00, while insurance costs was N$157 977 for the year. Repairs and maintenance to the interim home was N$479 487.00 as urgent water pipes and old electricity lines needed replacement. 3) Administration costs allowing the association to continue with operations was recorded at N$892 869.00. This includes municipal fees at an already reduced rate of N$191 243.00. 4) The National Cancer Registry of Namibia is administrated and funded by the Cancer Association of Namibia. The system of data collection and processing guides not only CAN, but also the Ministry of Health and Social Services, on national cancer planning programmes. During 2016, CAN produced the "2010 – 2014 Cancer Incidence Report". This project exceeded N$193 000 as research, administration, data collection and processing, as well as professional epidemiology services are required to complete the project. The report was published in March 2017 and is available online at www.can.org.na or in print at the CAN head
office. 5) The National Cancer Outreach Programme (NCOP) plays a crucial role in national awareness, education and screening to fight cancer in the country. The NCOP was officially established in August 2015, however regional outreaches on ad-hoc basis have formed part of the associations operations since the 1980's. These services were free of charge to Namibians during 2016/17, while the CAN Community Clinic in Windhoek is hosted weekly at an N$50 donation. The Cancer Association of Namibia subsidiSed the costs pertaining to these clinics. The NCOP expands from year to year: A total of 3 394 people were screened during the outreaches. 680 were male and the rest of the 2 714 were female. The total referrals of females for colposcopies and gynaecological opinions were 54 cases. And, while only 5 men tested positive for irregular PSA levels and referred for urgent further screening, we had a total of 73 men referred for other ailments (Hypertension, testicular lumps, skin conditions suggestive of Kaposi Sarcoma, neck swollen nodules suggestive of Lymphoma, urinary tract problems, diabetes and cholesterol). A total of 7 ladies were referred for mammography and breast sonography. The value of this programme exceeds N$2 100 000.00 annually. We thank the Namibian tourism industry who take our hands in terms of accommodation sponsorship to ensure we need not waste money on accommodation expenses – in particular the Gondwana Collection, who provide accommodation, in addition to transportation needs as required in some regions. 6) CAN purchased the property at 6 Willan Street, Windhoek West (adjacent to the House Acacia Interim Home) to renovate and convert into an interim home for childhood cancer patients and their guardians. The CHICA Interim Home was officially inaugurated in March 2017 and serves as a home of safety for mothers while their children are hospitalised for cancer treatment; and mother-andchild stays for "outpatient"
childhood cancer fighters receiving treatment or follow-up visits. This project was an investment of N$3 500 000 plus renovations at N$180 000, during the previous financial year. Apart from these capitalintensive support programmes mentioned, the Cancer Association of Namibia also drives enormous media campaigns in the local print-, digital- and social media to create awareness and support education initiatives on cancer. Our properties need to be maintained, accounts are due, services need to be paid and admin costs sky rocket annually. The vehicles in our fleet must be serviced and maintained, as these vehicles carry cancer patients, our staff during outreaches and drive our projects and campaigns to the benefit of Namibians affected by cancer. The Cancer Association of Namibia values the Namibian community - your contributions, donations and the unwavering support of the business fraternity allow us to daily inspire hope, change and impact lives. The President and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Cancer Association of Namibia, Mrs Saima Nambinga, concludes by reaffirming that: "We want to see every person affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly in Namibia, to be assisted through the tireless efforts made by everyone who has committed themselves to this cause. This is our wish and we stand to commit ourselves towards realising this objective!" For more information contact the Cancer Association of Namibia(WO30) at 90 John Meinert Street in Windhoek West; www.can. org.na; or e-mail us at help@can.org.na or telephone us at 061 237740.

Lack of funds nearly kept Namibia’s Para-athletics Team at Home Namibia's para-athletics team is in the United Kingdom since Friday to compete in the 2017 International Paralympics Committee (IPC) World Athletics Championship. The IPC World Athletics Championships takes place between 14 and 25 July in London. The Namibian team that left for the IPC World Athletics Championships are: Annias Shikongo, Johannes Nambala, Lahja Ishitile, Eino Mushila with guides Even Tjiviju and Sydney Kamuaruuma. The team coach is Michael Hamukwaya. Walvis Bay's pride, Johanna Benson, qualified for the World Athletics Championships, but had to withdraw due to injury. The FNB Namibia Foundation Trust approved a sponsorship of N$220 000 for the Namibian para-athletics team to participate at this year's event. The Corporate Social Investments Manager, Revonia Kahivere, explained through the FNB Namibia Foundation Trust FNB Namibia is honoured to support these world class athletes. She added FNB Namibia will sign a sponsorship agreement with the Namibia Paralympics Committee and that the Bank's wish is to continue with this sponsorship in future. "We have seen how these athletes have inspired the nation and we look forward to welcoming them home with more medals". The Deputy Director for the Department for Marginalised People and Women in Sport [Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Services], Ms Jo-Ann Manuel, expressed her deep appreciation for FNB Namibia meeting Government halfway [in the development of sport] and in particular for this latest sponsorship to the Namibia Paralympics Committee. Manuel called on more disabled people in Namibia to take up athletics, as this achievable and an opportunity to grow.

Namib Park Bowls Club De Duine Rugby keeps winning streak Walvis Bay and Magic Discounters starts School Bowling League Written by Jùandro van Rooi
We have nearly reached the end of the rugby season of 2017. There are a few matches left before the quarter finals. What started off as just another rugby season became a full titanic competition between schools.
We discussed tactics; we prepared ourselves emotionally and physically. De Duine Under 15 had a good record this season and did not lose any of their games, until the titanic battle against Pro-Ed Academy. It was a hard game with lots of injuries and De Duine unfortunately lost the battle. On Saturday 8th July 2017, De Duine played Karibib Private School and won the game 7-5. This entire nail biting adventures would not have been possible without the commitment of coach Karl Cooksen, the parents, but most importantly the players and our sponsors. De Duine Rugby would like to thank Mr Tony Haskell from T&M Machine tools for the prizes sponsored for our fundraiser. The first prize winner of a high pressure cleaner was Algernon Kolz and the second prize winner of a vacuum cleaner was Azelle van Rooi.
Learners of the four schools participating in the school Bowling League In a historic moment in the sport of lawn bowls in Namibia at the coast, and also in the history of the Namib Park Bowling Club in Walvis Bay, a very first Schools League is being played over the next five weeks. Four of the Secondary schools in Walvis Bay entered two teams each. The schools are: Walvis Bay Private High School, Dolphin Elementary School, De Duine Senior Secondary School and Kuisebmond Senior Secondary School. Magic Jumbo & Discounters, a major sponsor for bowls, has generously sponsored the schools league to the tune of N$15 000. Monetary prizes will be paid over to the schools to be used towards acquiring sports equipment and related necessities: The prize money will be as follows, First place N$8 000, Second N$4 000, Third N$2 000 and Fourth N$1 000. The winner of this schools league will also travel to Windhoek to play against the winner of the schools league in Windhoek. Lawn bowls has traditionally been perceived to be a past time and only to be played when one retires. This is however, not the case; the younger one starts to play bowls, the better. Namib Park Bowls Club currently has 4 junior bowlers from the ages between 12 – 18 years old. One of the players, Cabous Olivier of the Walvis Bay High School, has already obtained his Namibian Colours and has participated in international events. Cabous Olivier will be playing the World Singles Bowls Championship in Australia in November 2017. Bowls is a SPORT FOR LIFE. These days one could start playing at as from the age of 9 years and probably “Hang up” around 90 years. There is no other sport that can be played competitively with no age, sex, colour or size dictating who will win the day. The sincere wish of the organisers is for the schools league to become an annual event, and that bowls in Namibia will go from strength to strength. Some schools will hopefully, eventually offer bowls as an extra-mural sports activity. The organisers added it would be wonderful if schools in other towns of the Erongo Region could also start with a schools league. League games are played every Thursday at 17:00 at the Namib Park Bowling Club in Walvis Bay. If there are schools that would like to join the league - please contact Namib Park Bowling Club Walvis Bay or Vivien Potgieter at 064206708 or email vivien.potgieter@malherbe.com.na

“Mannetti can’t be greedy” as Namibia beats Zimbabwe Ricardo Mannetti is basking in the Brave Warriors' 1-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the CAF African Nations Championship qualifiers match played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek on Sunday afternoon. Hendrick Somaeb scored the only goal of the match on 47 minutes after a great solo run, cutting inside before unleashing a ferocious shot into the top left corner, to send the thousands of football-thirsty Namibians into a frenzy. Namibia entered the match as the underdogs. It was the Cosafa champions, Zimbabwe, that had the best of the ball in the opening 20 minutes. The Zimbabweans had two great chances inside 14 minutes, but Namibian goalkeeper Lodyt Kazapua was on both occasions equal to the task. Somaeb had the only shot at goal for Namibia which went wide and at the start of the second half. Dynamo Fredericks replaced Absalom Iimbondi to bolster the midfield and it was not long before the goal came from Somaeb. Zimbabwe tried hard for the equalizer, but resolute defending from the weary Brave Warriors kept them at bay - until the fat lady sang. Namibia 1-0 Zimbabwe the final score. Namibia coach Ricardo Mannetti is relishing the moment. “I can't be greedy and ask for more. This victory was long overdue and when Somaeb scored, I prayed and hoped that Zimbabwe don't spoil the brilliant goal and the memorable occasion for all of us. Going into the second leg next Sunday at the Harare Sports Stadium, Mannetti remains optimistic. “We played well today and got the result, we now have to prepare for the second leg and again we remain underdogs and have to play above ourselves again like we did today. They will be at home and have depth and we have to counter that” explains Mannetti. Captain Ronald Ketjijere echoes the coach sentiments and additionally thanks the nations for the support on the day. “We played against giants today and after a very tough first half we had to keep the ball down and play on their ground and in the end we got the goal and now the second half will be a different game and we remain committed. Our goalkeeper really kept us in the game and the support from the public today was exceptional as well and I thank everyone for coming today and means a lot to us” Ketjijere states. Namibia and Zimbabwe will renew their rivalry on Sunday, 23 July at the Harare Sports Stadium for the second round second leg match.
