Swakop River reaches the Atlantic The Swakop River reached the Atlantic Ocean at about 8:00 on Wednesday, 16 February, 2021 for the first time since 2011. The Swakop River Mouth was a hive of activity as hundreds of people armed with cameras, video recorders and drones gathered at the mouth to capture the very rare and phenomenal spectacle of the water completing its more than 300km journey to the Atlantic Ocean. The Swakop River, with its source in the Khomas Highland along with its main tributary, the Khan River originating near the settlement of Otjisemba, north-west of Okahandja, is one of the largest

The Municipality of Swakopmund's office of the Chief Executive Officer, Archie Benjamin, urges all businesses, government institutions and developers with high and /or long outstanding unpaid municipal accounts to pay their accounts or/and make necessary down payments arrangements before 1 March in order to avoid water disconnections. Residential and all other account holders ate advised to settle their municipal accounts as soon as possible and if not possible, account holders should make the necessary arrangements before 1 April, in order to avoid water disconnections. Account holders wanting to make payment arrangements are encouraged to contact the Municipal Finance Department at 064 410 4316/7/8 for information and to submit their proposed settlement arrangement in writing to the following email addresses: dkhunuxas@swkmun.com.na and pnaris@swkmun.dom.na. Kindly state your municipal account number as a reference. Council will consider leniency based on specific and clear motivations supported where necessary with documentary evidence.
