The Arandis Constituency had a handing over ceremony of equipment to beneficiaries of its Constituency on 7 June. Fourteen beneficiaries from Arandis received equipment to the value of N$39 554.19, whilst fifteen beneficiaries from Henties Bay received equipment to the value of N$47 500.00. The equipment range from deep freezer, freezers, stoves, overlockers, sewing machines, hair salon equipment and products, printers, a shaft and a finisher machine, materials as well as pots and catering equipment. Honourable Imbamba of the Arandis Constituency informed the beneficiaries of her Constituency that the government is doing its utmost best to eradicate poverty. She emphasized that small and medium enterprises are the backbone of the Namibian economy and it is imperative to assist SMEs through the Constituency Development Fund for them to gradually develop into established elite businesses one day. Honourable Imbamba expressed her gratitude to God Almighty through whose grace all this is possible. While addressing the beneficiaries Ms. /Gôagoses, the CRO said that the Erongo Regional Council as part of its mandate to plan and develop the region budgeted N$100 00.00 per Constituency in order to assist SMEs within the region. She encouraged the beneficiaries to take good care of the equipment they received, to which she said, “it is not what you are given but what you do with what is given to you. Though they are all different from each other, their aim should be socio-economic empowerment”. Ms. Ellie Nowases, in her remarks on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the Government of Namibia for making it possible for her to address the gathering in English through the literacy programme. She narrated her first experience in South Africa where a translator was needed to convey her message. As a result the experience prompted her to join the literacy classes and from there she never looked back. Her backyard gardening project has today grown in leaps and bounds. She expressed her appreciation to the Arandis Town Council for the plot allocated for the expansion of the gardening project and also thanked Swakop Uranium for their sponsorship of the green house which is improving the production of her products. Nowases encouraged her fellow beneficiaries to stand up and work without being discouraged by their circumstances as she wants to ensure that each and everyone would have a backyard garden from which they can support themselves. “I encourage you to make use of these equipment provided and at least employ one person in order to meet the government halfway” she added. On behalf of the beneficiaries, she thanked the Regional leadership in the presence of Ms Natalia /Gôagoses, the Chief Regional Officer of the Erongo Regional Council, Hon. Benita Imbamba the Arandis Constituency Councillor, Honourable /Honeb the Mayor of Henties Bay and Mr Patrick Haushona. “I urge you not to be just receivers of equipment but start pulling in the same direction for eradication of poverty” Nowases concluded. Mr Chris Wilmoth, the Local Economic Development Specialist at the Arandis Town Council informed and encouraged the beneficiaries to make use of the support services and training offered by them in collaboration with COSDEC, Rossing Foundation and NCCI in order to improve their business skills.

Lost Chinese tourist found alive and well Erwin Leuschner

The Chinese tourist that went missing at the Ameib guest farm fifteen kilometers north west of Usakos on Sunday morning was found alive and well at 08:30 yesterday morning. That brings to an end a 22-hours ordeal for 59-year old Yin Cecilia Liang. Her fellow tourists and locals were frantically searching for her when she got lost during an excursion. Liang is receiving treatment for dehydration, but is well and in high spirit.

(EGUW) is a new way of looking at solid waste management in cities globally and is expected to bring about a fundamental change in the recycling value chain. It will also allow towns and cities to reduce the size and composition of landfill sites, which is regarded as a major contributor to global warming, as decomposing waste produces large quantities of methane gas.

dismissable behaviour Continued from Page 1 was thrown with a bunch of keys and she was threatened with further physical harm including murder. The disciplinary hearing concluded on 7 March this year. A recommendation was forwarded to the local authority the traffic official be dismissed. A document provided to namib times confirms that a disciplinary hearing took place against the mentioned traffic official. The hearing took place on 1 February this year. On 9 March the official was infor-med she was found guilty of these charges. She was given until 15 March to appeal. The victim in the meantime had to learn with shock and dismay the traffic official was never dismissed, as per the recommendation, but instead received a warning only. The traffic official allegedly arrived at the victim's workplace on Saturday and informed her: “I am back and in uniform”. Yesterday, the municipality of Swakopmund's Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Marco Swartz was only willing to confirm the traffic official is back at work. It was not clear whether Mr Swartz was aware of Saturday's incident in which this official seemingly persists with her conduct.

Namibian conquers Brandberg up and down - in less than six Erwin Leuschner hours Wim Steenkamp from Windhoek on Friday shattered the previous Fastest Known Time (FKT) by running up and down the Brandberg Mountain in a remarkable time of 5hours, 56minutes and 56seconds. Steenkamp beat the previous FKT of 8ours and 6minutes set by American Fred Zalokar in 2015. The new record time is extra-ordinary as the Brandberg FKT challenge consists of an approximate 25 kilometer distance coupled with a 4000meter altitude gain and loss. Steenkamp set the new record in the Brandberg Ga'aseb route. The Brandberg FKT challenge was a prequel to the annual Brandberg Rhino Run consisting of various running and cycling events on Sunday. A select group of ten very fit and able athletes took part in the FKT challenge. The reward for a new FKT is N$10 000.

International surfers take on Donkey Bay Various international surfers as well as many local talents came together at Namibia's most famous surf-spot last week, just as the remarkable winter storm hit the coast: Donkey Bay close to Walvis Bay. Many surfers put their skills to the test as the wave height, direction and speed was truly perfect for surfing. Donkey Bay is regarded as one of the best surf spots in the world. While it is regarded as “the best left in the world, Donkey Bay also has of the most difficult waves to surf. Amongst the international surfers, who travelled to Namibia for the swell this time, was a team from Rip Curl. Photos by BXtreme Hobbies and Toys

Swakopmund municipality launches HIV/AIDS, Health and Wellness Management Policy Sharlien Tjambari

The Swakopmund municipality has launched an HIV/AIDS, Health and Wellness Management policy for local authorities in Namibia. The purpose of the policy is to comply and better coordinate the response on HIV/AIDS in line with national and international instruments. “Workplace wellness is an organised program to assist and support employees in establishing healthier lifestyles. The program entails increasing employee awareness on health topics, scheduling behaviour change programs, and/or establishing company policies that support health-related objectives,” said Swakopmunds Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr Marco Swarts during the launch of the policy. Members of the community, learners and employees of the municipality attended the recent event. Swarts added in view of continuous health and wellness challenges within local authorities, the Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leader's Initiative for Community Action on AIDS at the Local Level, also known as AMICAALL, in cooperation with ALAN (Association of Local Authorities in Namibia) and the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development have developed a wellness policy on HIV/ AIDS, health and wellness management for local authorities in Namibia. The HIV/AIDS, health and wellness management for local authorities in Namibia policy was signed by the Minister of Urban and Rural Development for adoption by all Local Authorities in Namibia. an organisational climate and culture that is conducive to wellness and comprehensive identification of psychosocial health risk; to establish and maintain a safe, hazard-free process and low infection-risk workplace; to prevent new infections, provide care and support to infected and affected employees, in order to alleviate stress, stigma and fear among others; to create a workplace environment where discrimination based on HIV/AIDS and other health related illnesses will be reduced; and to promote work-life balance through the program which will assist employees in meaningful daily achievements and enjoyment in each of the four life quadrants namely: work, family, friends and self. During the launch of the policy peer-educators, who have been selected according to the provided guidelines and who are capacitated to be able to perform their duties effectively, were introduced to the community. “The trained peer-educators should be allowed to perform their duties during work hours as these activities form part of their job descriptions within reason and approval of the supervisor or General Manager of specific department,” Swarts said. He calls upon all general managers, managers and supervisors to render their optimal support to the peer educators. “If we have to achieve the UNAIDS target by 2020 which is only two years away. We need to work very hard.” The peer-educators are Councillor Maria Elago, Sister Mariam Walombola, Mr Penduleni Shiimi, Mr Petrus Tjipute and Marinda Bahr.

Breaking News: Namibian struggle icon, Herman Andimba Toivo ya Toivo, passes away at 92. The anti-apartheid activist was at home and surrounded by family in Windhoek at the time of his passing earlier this evening, announced President Hage Geingob moments ago. Toivo ya Toivo served 16 years in Robben Island as political prisoner in the same section as Nelson Mandela. He was active in the preindependence movement and one of the co-founders of South West African People's Organization (SWAPO) in 1960, and its predecessor the Ovamboland People's Organization (OPO) in 1959, though retired in 2006 to devote his time to his wife and two daughters. Winter storm hits central coast - no damages The winter storm that played havoc in many parts of the Western Cape this week hit the Namibian coast yesterday. By mid-day yesterday the rough seas had peaked, but contrary to initial expectations no damages were reported. Many Swakopmund residents waited patiently at some developed areas which usually take a pounding during stormy seas, including the Tiger Reef Beach Bar, the Jetty and the new Platz am Meer Waterfront – but nothing major transpired. Many had predicted a swell of over five meters and warned residents to be careful. Willie Human Watse winter storm het die kus getref, dis dan oosweer?

Receiver of Revenue to host tax education day on 15 June The Ministry of Finance's Department of Inland Revenue in Erongo is hosting a series of taxpayer education days across the region on 15 June, as part of its mission to promoting tax compliance among Namibians and to enhance taxpayers' knowledge of the different taxes administered by the Receiver of Revenue. Similar taxpayers education days have been hosted in the past with highly successful results. “During this time officials from the Inland Revenue Department will be available in mobile teams to assist the general public on all inquiries relating to tax. Therefore, taxpayers are encouraged to bring their tax forms and employees' tax certificates to be guided on how to do a self-assessment,” the Department of Inland Revenue said in an official letter. Rossmund hit by spate of burglaries Several home owners at Rossmund expressed their deep concerns this week over a spate of burglaries in recent weeks which they say are leaving residents and their property at risk. This week alone three burglaries occurred, all in the same manner as what has become a trend in recent weeks at the coast. The burglars remove the glass from aluminium window frames by first removing a cover on the outer part of the frame keeping the glass in place. The Namibian Police recently contacted namib times and requested the newspaper warn home owners at the coast with homes with aluminium frames to take precautions. This includes adding burglar bars or beams on their properties. With regard to Rossmund, home owners consulted this week said they are increasingly fearing for their personal safety. The latest spate of burglaries alone was not the only wake up call, but also the tragic death last week of a Swakopmund resident days after he was shot in the head by burglars. “We are sitting in a very difficult situation. There is the deepening crisis over whether Rossmund is a golf estate and whether it is an ordinary residential neighbourhood of Swakopmund. Justice Ileni Shapumba Noted. House breaking are really becoming an area of concern. Criminals are targeting aluminium windows and doors. We are busy conducting crime prevention operations and trying how best we can protect our communities. However we continue to urge our public to tighten security of their homes, establish neighbourhood watch groups, study the problems and together we can solve this. Everyone should be Police officer. Keep your local police number handy and let us all remain vigilant! Community Policing: Erongo Regards

Donations streaming in to assist shack fire victims Local businessman, Paulus Ndume of Ndume Trading Enterprises CC, recently donated N$50 000 toward the Mayoral Relief Fund in aid of assisting members of the community who have lost their homes and property at the hands of shack fires. During the donation ceremony, Mayor Immanuel Wilfred highlighted his growing concern about shack fires after recently looking at statistics of the past 16 months which has seen 103 shacks destroyed by fire and more than 200 people homeless. A total number of 43 shacks burned down between January and May of this year. Wilfred added that the only way to put an end to the disastrous effects of shack fires is to ultimately make adequate housing available to the near 50 000 people living in backyard shacks in Kuisebmond. Zuma Diken Thank You Mr Ndume.. Please Make sure this donations gets to the rightful owners not family of the town Council.. What did the Mayor Immanuel Wilfred give? Inferno aftermath: Injured truck driver passes away The Namibian truck driver, Lisias Amukushu (54), who sustained serious burn injuries all over his body when three trucks burnt at Usakos on Friday (2 June), passed away on Tuesday this week. This was revealed by deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, police regional crime investigations coordinator for Erongo. According to Iikuyu Amukushu succumbed to his injuries at about 17:30 at the Katutura State Hospital in Windhoek. His next of kin were informed. The police is still investigating the cause of the inferno. Two fridge trucks, both carrying a Zambian registration, as well as a tanker truck, which was transporting 44 680 liters of unleaded petrol, burnt out completely. The three trucks were parked next to each other opposite the Shell Service Station in Usakos – the fire destroyed all trucks completely.
