Namport awards its biggest clients at Port Users function Namport recorded a 19 percent increase of TEU's shipped in the month of September through the port of Walvis Bay. This very commendable figure was revealed recently at Namport's annual port-users function where the ports authority give recognition to its clients.

Vehicle stolen - gun left in vehicle also missing Eileen van der Schyff Incidents of motor vehicle theft continues at the coast. In the latest incident on Sunday, a silver Hyundai Getz was stolen in front of Trust Market on the corner of Rikumbi Kandanga Road and Sam Nujoma Avenue. What makes the incident more alarming is the fact that a .22 calibre pistol was in the car and is now lost along with the vehicle. The Namibian Police on Sunday issued an alert stating two men were seen driving away with the vehicle. That was according to an eyewitness report. The stolen car's registration number is N26335WB (picture on page 3). The owner is a certain Mr Joseph Kaswama (33).

The top five revenuebased clients for the port for 2019 were announced at the function as: Maersk Namibia (Pty) Ltd; Woker Freight Services (Pty) Ltd; Trade Ocean Shipping Namibia; Logistics Support Services (Pty) Ltd and Sturrock Grindrod Maritime (Namibia). The function was attended by more than 100 stakeholders in the maritime fraternity, with the aim of appreciating all those who

have made use of the Port's facilities in 2019. At the same function, awards were conferred to various entities in different categories such as the Top 5 Revenue based Clients, Top 3 Volume based Clients and Top 3 SME's for 2019 at the Port of Walvis Bay. “The Namibian Ports Authority has in the month of September 2019 recorded a commendable increase of 19 percent of twentyfoot equivalent unit

(TEU)'s shipped and 33 percent of TEU's that landed at the Port of Walvis Bay, in comparison to September 2018”, remarked Mr. Kavin Harry, Namport's Acting Chief Executive Officer at the function. Adding, 2019 has been a year of tremendous growth. Mr. Harry in particular made mention in this instance of the commissioning of the new container terminal on reclaimed Continues on page 2

land. “This great investment requires us as an entity, with your cooperation, to promote our port to overseas potential investors in order to ensure that Namibia, through the Port, becomes the Port of choice”, he further said. As an entity, Namport is focused on efficiency, not only through service delivery, but also with its systems and equipment and is in the process of developing a green port policy as the first step towards positioning the Port of Walvis Bay as a flagship port providing sound stewardship and management of the environment. The top three volume-based clients were announced as: Walvis Bay Salt Refiners (Pty) Ltd; Engen (Pty) Ltd and Puma Energy Namibia (Pty) Ltd. Top 3 SME's at the Port of Walvis Bay for 2019 are: Cross Border Vehicle Traders; Faida Trading & Clearing and Zephyr Investments.

A 29-year-old Walvis Bay woman hanged herself in her home in the harbour town’s Meersig suburb on Saturday. Her death follows only days after she and her husband Bobbie Kleinhans lost a dear friend, Jimmy de Goveia, in a vehicle accident.

The woman, identified as Es-Marie Kleinhans, was found dead in the shower of her home which she shared with her husband Bobby Kleinhans. She hung herself and left a suicide note. Her body was discovered at approximately 15:30 by a neighbour. The late Jimmy de Goveia lived with the Kleinhans couple until only weeks ago. She was reportedly one of the persons who had to go and identify de Goveia’s body after he was killed in a car crash last Tuesday at around 21:00. De Goveia was returning from Langstrand to Walvis Bay when his vehicle slammed into a palm tree near the harbour town’s entrance on the B2 coastal road. The force of the collision sent the vehicle down a steep embankment next to the road.

Police operation nets two poachers Isaac Chikosi Two poaching suspects were netted by the Namibian Police at Usakos. The duo, Max Dixon and Eugene Gruner shot three oryx on the farm Bergrus at Usakos and were nabbed for hunting the animals without a valid permit and allegedly did so with an unlicensed firearm. Police reports confirm the two suspects were found in possession of the carcasses of the oryx shot illegally. The carcasses are valued at N$ 12 00000. The hunting rifle with a silencer confiscated was unlicensed. The vehicle which they used for the alleged poaching was also impounded. The vehicle was last licensed in 2009. Dixon and Gruner made a first appearance in the Usakos magistrate's court yesterday.

Pictures herewith show the two suspects and cartridges of the hunting rifle they allegedly used. The carcasses of the oryx poached, the vehicle that was used and also the license disc which shows the car was last registered in 2009.

Tide of accidents remains unstoppable - and the festive season is fast approaching Mandume ya Ndemufayo “racetrack” at it again Speeding on Mandume ya Ndemufayo Road in Swakopmund remains worrisome. Whether during an ordinary work day, a weekend day or at night, vehicle drivers, including truck drivers, are making themselves guilty of speeding. That without taking life and limb in consideration of other road users and pedestrians. On Friday night two vehicles, a bakkie and a Mercedes Benz were involved in an accident on Mandume ya Ndemufayo. It appears a rear-end collision resulted in the accident. The bakkie rear-ended the Mercedes Benz, sending both vehicles off the road and into a boundary wall. The driver of the Mercedes Benz was seriously injured and the driver of the bakkie fled the scene on foot. No wonder residents refer to the “Mandume ya Ndemufayo racetrack”.

In the pictures above: this Toyota Yaris spun out of control in Circumferential Street in Walvis Bay over the weekend and hit the pavement. A panel van of Stuttafords was involved in a rear-end collision on the B2 between Usakos and Karibib. The well-known “rolling hotel” was destroyed in a fire on the C14 late last week. Tourists traveling with the truck lost all their belongings. In none of the above accidents were any injuries or deaths reported.

Two bike accidents in the dune belt over the weekend Two bike riders were injured in two separate accidents in the dune belt near Langstrand over the weekend. The one accident involved four-wheelers. One accident took place on Friday and the other on Saturday. Names of the two injured persons were not yet released at the time of going to press.

Remembrance Day Parade A healthy balance of former security force members, currently serving military personnel and also representatives of a foreign military attended Sunday's Remembrance Day Parade at the war memorial a the J.C. Harries Park in Walvis Bay. Every year on the Sunday the closest to 11 November, Remembrance Day is commemorated across all Commonwealth nations to mark the moment when all hostilities ended in the First World War. At 11:00 on 11 November 1918 an Armistice agreement was signed between Germany and the Allied Forces which were led by Britain, France, Russia, Italy and the United States. These five countries were the main thrust against Germany and her pact-partners AustriaHungary*, the Ottoman Empire* and Bulgaria* (*as stated in Wikipedia). The First World War also had an historical impact on Namibia and more particularly to the coastal region we know today. As part of the total war effort, Britain requested the Union of South Africa in 1914 to invade German South West Africa (now Namibia) in order to crush the German might across the globe. Union of South

Africa Forces entered the German territory at several points, including a naval force first bombing key communications infrastructure at Swakopmund and then landing at Walvis Bay on Christmas Day in 1914. Similarly a naval force landed at LĂźderitz and land forces crossed the Orange River. The German forces were pressed eastwards away from the ocean. From southern Namibia the South African land forces pressed the German forces northwards and created a pincer thrust . Windhoek was abandoned as the German capital. In May 1915, the German forces surrendered at Khorab near Otavi. The Oshivambo to the North made a significant contribution to the South West Africa Campaign, serving as a stop-force against the fleeing Germans. There was an attempt to break out northwards towards the Tanganyika in Central Africa where there was still a strong German military presence at the time.

A very special moment on Sunday. Mrs Renate Zander, the sister of the late M.O.T.H. Hein Altmann attended the Parade and also laid a wreath. She is seen here with her husband Mr Zander. The late Altmann is the founder of the M.O.T.H. Military Museum at the Escarpment Shellhole in Walvis Bay. The museum is named the Hein Altmann Museum.

Pictures herewith show members of the public, M.O.T.H.- members, the Namibian armed forces, the Namibian Police, representatives of the Brazilian Navy and the German Traditionsverband attending the Parade on Sunday morning. The youngest delegate to lay a wreath was Isabella Coetzee who did so on behalf of future generations whilst Mr Jerry Schutte layed a wreath on behalf of the general public

The “Black Lion” roars “The black lion roars in Walvis Bay”. That is the only way by which you can describe the one of its kind truck currently in use on the African continent: a MAN TGX 41.680, 8x4/4 heavy abnormal truck tractor which was recently commissioned by Walvis Bay Plant & Tool Hire. There is also an interesting story here of how the arrival of the truck was kept discreet, until the moment Walvis Bay Plant & Tool Hire announced her to the world. Autohaus MAN Truck & Bus delivered this first ever MAN TGX 41.680 8x4/4 Heavy Abnormal Truck Tractor to Walvis Bay Plant & Took Hire on Thursday. The 680Hp vehicle with 8x4 twin-steer driveline and certified to haul 250,000kg, is purpose built to do exactly what it does: Haul Really Heavy Stuff! Not only is this a huge matter of pride for Walvis Bay Plant & Tool Hire, but also for Namibia as this is officially the first country in Africa to welcome a heavy abnormal truck of this magnitude. The TGX is one of only two in Africa. The second still ownership of the MAN SA factory. The TGX carries the well-known “Toni Maurer Fahrzeugbau” badge, a Germany-based family owned business who specializes in special vehicle builds, alterations and modifications for MAN products. “So not just a heavy hauler, but a complete group effort from MAN, ensuring the client gets the best quality in product”, states Autohaus MAN Truck & Bus in a statement. Adding, in order to keep the arrival as quiet as possible, the vehicle was quietly driven to Swakopmund Autohaus during night time and hidden there overnight, as to reduce public visibility. This already proved difficult, as the “Black Lion” tends to turn heads and draw attention wherever it goes. The next morning, the vehicle was quietly driven directly to the W/Bay Plant premises and stored inside the warehouse, until registered, completely branded and officially handed over.

MAN TGX 41.680 8X4/4

Walvis Bay Plant & Tool Hire, a 100% Namibian owned family business, took official delivery on Thursday the 7th of November. The hand-over ceremony was a big one for both MAN and the Stauder father and son duo. W/Bay Plant & Tool Hire has been running for the past 21-years and trades in various types of plant equipment, but specializes in Extra Heavy Haul Cargo, Crane hire in various sizes and much more. Simply no job is too big for this team, and they are some of the most insightful people you will meet. Reinhold Stauder, who started this business 21 years ago with only one welding machine, saw an opportunity and need for the Namibian market and has since grown his business into a huge and very successful empire. Both Reinhold and his son, Manfred, are hands-on every day and manages every-single aspect of operations. Reinhold himself is many times still seen steering a crane, or operating plant equipment on sites. The fact that they own the first ever MAN TGX like this, is not only suited, but also forms part of a long history and legacy for the Stauder-family, seeing that the first truck W/Bay Plant owned was a MAN F9. This specific vehicle is still found on their premises, not in use, but still operative. With the delivery of the Black Lion, both MAN and W/Bay Plant have taken the Namibian industry to the next level. The TGX is not only a strong new edition to the W/Bay Plant fleet, but also a great addition to the Namibian industry. The Stauder-family is known for excellent service, dedication to their clients and a hard-working force to be reckoned with throughout the SADC region. Now backed by MAN, who not only specializes in these kinds of vehicles, but also locally known to go that extra mile to deliver the best service.

Namibian bowlers Cabous Olivier and Diana Viljoen

World Bowls Singles Champion Of Champions Namibian bowlers Cabous Olivier and Diana Viljoen earlier this week returned from Adelaide Australia where they participated in the World Singles Champion of Champions Tournament.

Raymundo Bowe

This tournament is held annually at a different venue each year and the top singles players, men and women, from each country take each other on to determine the Champion of the world. Twenty five countries participated in the men's tournament and twenty in the women's. Both the men's and the women's tournaments were played in two sections on a complete round robin basis, which meant that Cabous played eleven games and Diana nine. Cabous got off to a great start by winning his first three games, against Canada, Isle of Man and Hungary. Unfortunately he then lost to Hong Kong China. In the following four rounds he beat Malaysia, Samoa and the Netherlands but lost to New Zealand. He went on to beat Spain but narrowly lost to England and Scotland, both very hard-fought games, and ended fifth in his section. In the play-offs, Mark O'Hagan from Scotland went through automatically as he won his section, but lost to Tony Cheung of Hong Kong China, who met Lee Schraner from Australia in the semi-final. Schranerwon his section and went through to the play offs where he beat Louis Ridler from England to meet Cheung in the semi-final. In a very close game, Lee Schraner from Australia beat Tony Cheung from Hong Kong China to be crowned Bowls Singles World Champion. Scotland and England were placed joint third. Cabous Olivier of Namibia ended tenth overall. In the Women's tournament, Diana Viljoen lost her first game to Australia, beat Norfolk Island and Canada but then lost three games in a row, namely against Singapore, England and Botswana. She went on to beat Zimbabwe and Hong Kong China but lost her last game to Isle of Man to end sixth in her section and eleventh overall. In the play offs, Australia and New Zealand went through automatically since they won their respective sections. Norfolk Island played Wales and England played South Africa. In the semi-finals, Australia beat Norfolk Island and New Zealand beat England. Kylie Whitehead from Australia met Taylor Horn from New Zealand in the final. It was, once more, a very close game which was ultimately won by Kylie Whitehead. This means that both men's and women's singles champion of champions are from Australia. Diana Viljoen commented, “This has been such an experience as I really learned something in every game from the best in the world. Mental toughness for Singles is the most important aspect. Our Bowls is of a very high standard.” This is certainly true when one considers that there areonly 74 women and 101 men who are affiliated bowlers in the whole of Namibia. This is less than the membership of some bowling clubs in South Africa.

Ten-year-old Arizhia van der Walt a scholar at Pro-Ed Academy, Swakopmund and eleven-year-old Adara Gey van Pittiusa scholar at Privateschule Swakopmund had coaches, supporters and spectators at the edge of their seats at the Erongo Region Open Championship. At one of her training sessions she has already cleared a height of 1.37meter. Adara Gey van Pittius has also shown that great things can be expected of her in the future.
