Corruption arrest Traffic Dept. Employee of municipality of Walvis Bay tried to solicit a bribe An employee of the municipality of Walvis Bay’s traffic department has been arrested in a sting operation by the Anti-Corruption Commission of Namibia (ACC). Andreas Eichab (pictured), an administrative clerk at the traffic department solicited a bribe of N$1 500 from a member of the public who in turn reported the incident to the ACC. Ship-to-shore cranes As much as 40 % of instant performers Namibia’s electricity now The recent investment in the ship-to-shore cranes (STS) at the port of Walvis Bay's new container terminal on reclaimed land continues to bear fruit. The terminal recorded a record 27 crane moves per hour on 19 September from the container vessel Rhine Maersk, reports the Namibia Ports Authority (Namport). Maersk's Port Captain (Angola and Namibia), Captain Louis Coetzee, expressed appreciation for the great teamwork displayed by Namport- and other staff throughout the whole loading and discharge operation. The ship-to-shore cranes made the difference. It improved handling capacity and subsequent shorter turnaround time for the container ship. The Acting Chief Executive Officer of Namport, Mr. Kavin Harry, echoed the sentiments of Captain Coetzee and further added: “we as management recognises the hard-working efforts by colleagues who have, as a result, managed to achieve 27 moves per hour. We thank you for your commitment to making the port of Walvis Bay “Africa's Express Hub to International Markets”. Well done and let us continue to relentlessly move the frontiers. [Source: Namport].

As much as 40 % of Namibia's national electricity demand is supplied from renewable energy projects already operating in the country. This “unprecedented saturation rate” of renewable energy is now augmented by the 5mw Trekkopje solar project of the Orano uranium mine that was inaugurated on Thursday. The Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy Kornelia Shilunga in her address at the opening said Orano is the twelfth of fourteen renewable energy projects to be connected to the national power grid. In total that represents 65 megawatts, or roughly 12 % of Namibia's daily demand. The recently ALTEN project adds 37 megawatt, Hopsol at Otjiwarongo adds 5 megawatt, Omburu at Omaruru 4,5 megawatt, Arandis Plant 3,5 megawatt and 10 megawatt from the GreenNam plants. According to the Deputy Minister these plants and an estimated further 50 megawatt from private institutions and individuals (solar plants on factory roofs etc) brings the estimated contribution from renewable energy sources to as much as 40 %

Current situation at Long- Corrupt police officer Eileen van der Schyff beach jailed for two years
Residents of Langtrand expressed appreciation for municipal workers who cleaned the recent mess left by day visitors at the braai area. These residents however, said day visitors not cleaning up behind them remains a problem that not only leaves areas of Langstrand messy, but it also does not reflect well on Namibia if visitors see these areas so filthy and vandalised.
Pictures herewith show the mess a group of day visitors left behind recently. Municipality of Walvis Bay workers had to go and clean up the area. An electricity kiosk's door was also torn off by an unknown person, leaving a generally negative image of the state of cleanliness and tidiness at Langstrand's public facilities. “I'm appalled about the general condition of Langstrand. Recently when I encountered the mess at the public braai area, I could not turn a blind eye any longer”, fumed the resident. He added homeowners residing in Langstrand sit with their hands in their hair about the filthy state day visitors regularly leave the public areas. “We cannot always rely on the municipality to clean up. The municipality has more important duties like cleaning up sand on the streets, refuse removal and other. We as citizens need to clean up behind ourselves and ensure the litter is in a nearby dustbin in order for the municipality to remove it on schedule. Let alone showing respect for others by keeping facilities clean so that other people can also enjoy it afterwards”, he added. This resident's response is one hundred percent on the mark. A clean and tidy country starts with every Namibian at individual level. In doing so we serve as an example to others and there is a positive synergy of scale if people start to keep their surroundings neat and tidy. We as a nation's positive image need to be reflected through an environment free of litter and waste and by keeping public facilities like parks neat and tidy and free from vandalism.
A police officer of Walvis Bay has been sentenced to two years imprisonment, following his conviction on a count of corruption on 17 September in the Walvis Bay magistrate's court. Detective Sergeant Immanuel Shitaleni offered to get rid of a criminal investigation docket for a bribe of N$5 000 on 13 February 2017. He was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), charged with corruption and made a first court appearance the next day on 14 February 2017. The docket Shitaleni was willing to get rid of involved a fraud case of N$361 243-58. The ACC in its latest report states some twelve police officers have been prosecuted for corruption in the past 11 years, with sentences ranging from suspended sentences, hefty fines or periods of imprisonment.
Botswana Dry Port expands its services The Botswana Dry port which is managed by Sea Rail Botswana is undergoing a facelift at its premises at the Port of Walvis Bay. The relationship between Botswana and Namport was birthed out of an agreement which was signed between the Namibian and Botswanan governments through the Ministry of Works and Transport of Namibia in 2009. The Botswanan government in 2012 appointed Sea Rail which is a subsidiary company of Botswana Railways that operates the dry port facility at the Port of Walvis Bay. The Dry port offers container handling, vehicle handling and warehousing services for its clientele. Dry Port Manager, Mr Derick Mokgatle, said “that the dry port is here to not only serve a wide customer base but more importantly to compliment the Namibian Government's efforts in becoming a logistics hub for the Southern African Development Community (SADC). All these envisaged developments came as a result of the good working relationship enjoyed by Namport and us”.The Dry Port is currently in the process of upgrading its facilities and will soon commission 40 reefer plug points at the end of this month. The commissioning of these reefer points is in line with the dry port's vision of being a one stop shop for all its users. A reefer container which is a short form for refrigerated container are big fridges that are used to transport temperature controlled cargoes such as fruits, meat, fish, seafood, vegetables and dairy. For a port to have such facilities simply means that the ability of such port to handle a variety of cargo translating into better service delivery increases. As Namibia is a member of SADC and thus in compliance to the SADC Protocol which calls for member states to work together harmoniously in achieving effective results on common problems and issues, the country entered into agreements with Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe to avail these three land-linked countries a portion of land at the Port of Walvis Bay to enable them to conduct sea-borne trade.

Last week we had the popular PAR 3 competition sponsored by Jakkie de Witt and Boel Grobbelaar, for about the 7th year now. Forty players took to the course in this very different format which entails a lot of extra walking between holes and tees but at the end of it was the course from a whole different perspective. Winner on the day with the best gross of 52 was Jason Barnard, welcome back Jason nice to see you in the winner's box again. Andre burger won the best nett with a good 50, Bertie Coetzee was second on 51 while Wayne Hart was third on 51.25. Other winners on the day were Willie van Zyl, Wouter van Wijk, Frans Grobler, Piet Heunis and Heinie Franken. There were also two lucky draws for the real players of the day and these were won by Shane Westerdale and Willie Els. There was a special moment on the course when Deville Dreyer scored the elusive hole in one on the 16th, which was not an official par three and thus does not count as the real thing but indeed and great shot Deville and thanks for the round. It is as close as you can get to the real thing. Jakkie was on hand to present the trophy to Jason and the prizes to the winners, and promised to be back next year. Thanks to Jakkie and Boel for their ongoing support to the club. This weekend is the WP v BULLS day sponsored by GPG BRANDING. Not sure what the LIONS and SHARKS guys will do, but all to please note that there is prize for the best dressed team, so make some efforts. I can just imagine the Bulls guys with big horns on their heads and the WP guys without teeth shouting WP JOU LEKKA DENG. The AIR NAMIBIA RACE TO CAPE TOWN is hitting up with only 12 players remaining in the hunt. Justine, Andre and Nardo lead the race as it stands but as you know golf is a very strange game and anyone can win. Oom Pikkie and Tienie de wet were the two wild card entries that joined the 10 on top of the leader board. Good luck to all 12 players. Next Friday the 11th, is the CHAIN golf fundraiser which is always a cracker, please contact Goretti [in copy] or I for further info. Normally, and again this year, I put the challenge to all teams, if you end above our team I will pay 50 bucks to CHAIN but it you end below us, then you pay 50 to CHAIN. Please let me know if you have what it takes to accept the challenge BEFORE tee off. This Sunday at 8h00 for 8h30 is sages so if you are feeling strong please turn out. There is also a late start at 10h30 for nine holes. The CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS are scheduled for 19/20 October. The format and comp rules will follow soon The calendar looks as follows for the next few weeks 5 October WP V BULLS GPG BRANDING ind s/ford and match play 6 October SAGES 11 October CHAIN 12 October MANICA 19 – 20 October CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS DESERT IRON AND STEEL 26 October PISCS/FOX DESIGNS MONTHLY MEDAL 2 November EMBWINDA ind s/ford 9 November PISCS/FOX DESIGNS MONTHLY MEDAL 16 November INDONGO TOYOTA hidden partner 22 November MEERSIG KERK fund raiser The club is looking good again after a fresh coat of paint, thanks to all involved and even more thanks to the sponsors of the painters and paint. You know who you are, so many thanks The club has installed the PAY TODAY facility for all sales and green fees. It is quite easy to use, even Oom Frans can use it, “nou moet jy weet hoe maklik is dit”. Please make use of it as it makes the life of the manager a bit easier. Please ask kurt or I how to install. Ons hoop dat dit gaan beter met JJ, hy is in die hospital for some tests en ek week hy wil seker nie daar wees nie. Sterkte JJ kom vining daaruit, jy weet mos wat se hulle oor hospital kos The JOKER is still out there and last week it stood at $17 800 and could get to $19 000 this week. Easy spending money just in time for early Xmas shopping, so be sure to buy a ticket to stand a chance.
We are proud that the laurels at the end of the day came home with them to Rossmund. Christo Botha winning with a total score of 76pts, whilst Vic Moll won the “over 70” Division with 68pts well played and congratulations to the whole team who managed to clinch the “derby” with one point. The Namibian Mens Team left on Wednesday to compete in the All Africa Challenge in Mauritius we wish them well. This time around the team consisted of all coastal players: Stanley Gawanab; Grant Mather; Likius Nande; Kevin Wentzel (Captain); Marco Swarts (Manager). Wednesday 2 October was be sponsored by ITyre - the weather was really great which showed in the excellent scores carded especially over the front nine. With the new handicap system in place some strange things happened “6 for 4 or 7 for 3”on the par fives. This will take a while to get used to. We had a trial run on a “chipping” competition that went down well – congrats Fanie – all funds generated will go into the “40 year Kitty” – the inaugural competition was won by Peter Fox. Nearest to the Pin on Number 7 was won by Johan Kok - who was the overall winner on the day shooting a not too shabby 40pts – although he did say he was not putting well. Runner-up was Dougie Smith 39pts winning a count out; whilst Athol McLean took the 9 hole prize with 22pts. We say thanks to Christopher and ITyre for their support during 2019.
Saturday, 5 October we played a Betterball Stableford that was sponsored by Heineken - as always the sponsors' representative Helmut Njendja was there to enjoy the day with all the players. Helmut is an integral part of Rossmund Golf always there to assist where necessary, greets all with a smile and enjoys the camaraderie. One could not really complain about the weather – bit of a chilly southwester popping it's head out late afternoon, but otherwise a great day for golf. There were 2-clubs from Dawid Coetzee No.7 and Fanie Terblanche No. 12. The Chipping Competition was well supported and produced a “Hole in One” from Des Frankfort – thanks to all who participated in this initiative. Winners: 1st: Des Frankfort/Mondie Sevelus 46pts c/o; 2nd: Stephan Johns/Gert Breedt 46pts; 3rd: Neil Macleod/Fanie Terblanche 45pts; 4th: Rudi Auseb/Sebulon Tsuses 43pts c/o; 5th: Dougie Smith/Peter Bass 43pts. Heineken have promised to be there again for 2020 for which we thank them. Up Next:Wednesday 9 October we have Prestige Accounting in the picture. Saturday 12 October Destination Swakopmund time to pick- up some merit points again – they will host their final competition for 2019 on Monday 9 December (long weekend) this will be in the format of a 3 – Ball Alliance – full details to follow. The top three teams on this year's Merit List will get into the final free.

Namibia takes lead before floodgates open Rudi Bowe
Not every inflated Rugby World Cup score line tells the full story and this was a prime example. New Zealand may have finished up with 11 tries and a comfortable-looking victory, but the final margin did scant justice to the efforts of a spirited Namibian side who, for 35 minutes, proved more than a match for their illustrious opponents. When Damien Stevens scored the first points of the match to put Namibia in the lead, the rugby world paid attention. Two more penalties from Stevens and they were down with one point. The Namibians held their ground bravely against the world champions, despite the reigning champs scoring four tries in the first half to take a 24 – 9 lead into the break. The All Blacks increased momentum in the second half and ran in seven tries for a 71 – 9 victory. Namibia Coach Phil Davies said after the game smaller nations will always struggle against the game's heavyweights, unless they played them more regularly, Davies said: “It is a case of getting enough infrastructure in place and then keep building and try and play more competitive rugby”. “We have improved”, he agreed. And
everyone who watched fully agrees - Namibia is getting better at the game, against all odds! The players are fantastic and had a magnificent performance against the reigning champions. “I am extremely proud of the players for achieving the pressure they put on the world champions” Davies added. Namibian Captain Johan Deysel said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for the younger players in the team to gain experience. It was a good effort from the boys as we achieved tour goal in keeping the ball away from the All Blacks”. New Zealand boss Steve Hansen praised the opposition's spirit but said unless Namibia retained its top young talent, they would always be struggling “No doubt there will be some talented young kids in that country that want to play the game and for them to become a greater force then they need to make sure that talent is grown and given the opportunity,” said Hansen. The Namibians will now focus on a must win final group match in a Rugby World Cup against Canada next Sunday.
