Disaster looming Industry says 330 000mt TAC for 2020 not sustainable as fish biomass not in good shape

Headmaster inside S.R.A. arrested for Newstheft of cash letter

Floris Steenkamp Namibia's horse mackerel fishing sector has divided opinions over the 330 000 metric tons horse mackerel TAC (total allowable catch) announced this week by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources for the 2020 (1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020) fishing season. Disaster looming Continued from page 1 the Namibian fishing industry, he must revisit the issue of foreign vessels operation in our waters without delay. One the one end we have the foreign operators competing with us for Namibian quotas and on the other hand our Government drags feet over foreign vessels illegally entering our waters and catching Namibian fish illegally”, explained this stakeholder referring to nine Angolan vessels that allegedly caught Namibian horse mackerel illegally for nearly two years and no finger was lifted to do something about it. Those vessels returned to Angola with their fish hulls filled to the brim, with no benefit at all to Namibia. Namib Times also followed up allegations the fisheries ministry is sidelining the midwater trawl sector when it comes to scientific data and determining the TAC. Most of the stakeholders agreed with this statement. “We are increasingly side-lined. The correct way would be for the fisheries minister to consult with the different fishing associations and then with the Fisheries Advisory Council. Not only consulting the Ministry's scientists and ignoring the inputs of the associations and the advisory council which consists of members of the private sector duly qualified and experienced to assist with healthy decision making”.

The LSN does not condone any unlawful or illegal behaviour. The LSN further recognises that corrupt practices, money laundering and similar offences are serious offences and pose severe threats to the Rule of Law. However, the LSN also appreciates that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court. In addition to the responsibilities set out above, the LSN is also responsible for maintaining and enhancing the standard of conduct and integrity of all members of the legal profession and encouraging and promoting efficiency in and responsibility in relation to the profession. In the light hereof, the LSN has received numerous requests for commentary on the matter known as the “Fishrot Scandal”, but so far, there has been no written complaint lodged with the LSN against any lawyer in connection with this matter. The Council of the LSN may launch an investigation into alleged unsatisfactory conduct by a legal practitioner either following a formal complaint, or out of the Council’s own motion, if the Council reasonably believes that any member is guilty of unsatisfactory conduct. The LSN is therefore currently collecting further information and engaging other institutions to deliberate on the matter and make a decision in this regard.

Walvis Bay’s land gravy train to a halt Continued from page 1 The report was debated at its ordinary monthly meeting on Tuesday night. The report recommends the suspension of any further sale of all unserviced and un-surveyed land, in order for Council to use the little land still available for its own development purposes. “The applications to purchase un-serviced/un-surveyed land from Council over the years were without exception based on the principle of the developer obtaining cheap un-serviced/un-surveyed land. Then the servicing thereof and then the selling thereof at considerable profit”, an extract of the report reads. Adding: “With limited budget availability, Council in the past approved numerous such applications, but in the process also sacrificed the opportunity to generate substantial profit from serviced land sales”. The however, states there remains a huge demand for un-serviced and unsurveyed land, as it is generally more affordable for developers. However, no land can be sold any longer. The municipality, according to the report, applied for the expansion of the town's borders. Only until such time such process is completed would there again be land available for sale. Whether it would again mean selling un-serviced and un-surveyed land at cheap prices, instead of servicing it and putting up for private sale or auction and doing so create much need revenues for the municipality, remains unknown for now. Council is yet to decide whether to approve the recommendations.

NASA research plane has Fuel price unchanged Walvis Bay’ites puzzled

for December 2019

Some Walvis Bay residents were very sceptical on Tuesday of a white vapour trial that started over the Walvis Bay International Airport, leading almost vertically into the air. One can imagine what a rocket launched from ground level would look like. Namib Times received a number of calls from very concerned residents who admit they regularly spot aeroplane vapour trials over the town, as several international flights pass above daily. However, the vapour trial spotted on Tuesday was not the regular curved, horizontal trial. It was clear whatever caused the vapour trial was gaining height at such a rate the vapour trial was almost vertical. After inquiries it was established the North American Space Agency (NASA) is back at Walvis Bay to continue with scientific research to see how smog from fires in central Africa influences upper atmosphere levels over this part of the Atlantic Ocean.

Raiths, dito. Wild Rocket Cafe, bojos Cafe auch zu...

Namib Desert: Kommentar auf i n a t u r a l i s t . o rg : „An ant watcher in Australia says wow!

Also fast alles Weibchen.

Was wir denn wollten? Drei Eiskugeln jeder.

– Da will man mal in Ruhe das ganze Haus putzen und was passiert?

Quelle: Internet

Winner of Winners playoffs The Winner of Winners playoffs where winners throughout the year compete against each other for the annual honors while the 'not so lucky' players fight it out for the Winner of Losers prizes at the Walvis Bay Golf Course.

It seems as if the tradition was started back in 1985, so this was the 34th year of keeping another Walvis Bay golf tradition alive. We also had a new sponsor on board in IT Guru who pledged to be back for at least another two years! Thank you to young Westerdale and his team for the new sponsorship! 36 Players entered and conditions on the day were quite tough and playing medal golf in a typical Walvis Bay South Westerly breeze was again not easy for most. Coming out on top of the Winners' section was none other than Wouter van Wijk with a 72 net. He was followed on 73 by Tienie de Wet who beat Carlos Gouveia in the count-out on lowest handicap. Winner of the Losers' section was Deville Dreyer, also on 73 who got the better of Estelle Bothma on 74. 2 Clubs were scored by Johnny Borges, David Peake and Mario Polster. At the start of the day twelve players were still fighting it out for the top 4 spots in the Air Namibia, Race to Cape Town (RtCT) event and with Nardo, Pietie and David all having a disappointing day, the following four players qualified for the finals to be played this Saturday: Deville Dreyer (despite a 10 on hole 17?!), Justine Grobler, Tienie de Wet and Koot Potgieter. Up for grabs are two return, regional air tickets for the winner.

Novanam/pescanova 2019 Monthly Medal Ends With A Bang The final round of the 2019 Novanam/Pescanova Monthly Medal took place at the Rossmund Golf Course on Saturday 30 November. Things were tight or as some thought not so tight at the top of the Order of Merit - with lots to play for over the final 18 holes. Helmut Ndjendja had a three point lead going to the tee over Bertie Saunderson with Thomas Shitaleni nine points adrift but eyeing those twenty points on offer for the day's winner. Weather conditions were good – bit windy at times – course in excellent condition – so all go for some good golf. Unfortunately for Helmut he could only manage a Nett 74 giving him 10 points whilst Thomas produced an excellent 67 nett giving him the 20 points he needed to secure that green jacket. Well played to all and great that the medal master also went down to the wire this year. Thanks go to Novanam/Pescanova for always being there to sponsor this prestigious tournament – especially Miguel Tordesillas and Robertha Jansen for always giving of their time to attend the monthly prize-giving events. RudiAuseb was the only player to produce a 2-club on the day. Winners of those all important November points: Overall: Thomas Shitaleni, “A” Div: Helmut Ndjendja, “B” Div: Mondi Sevelus, “C” Div: John Horne, Junior: Jonathan Mather. Results – 2019 Medal Master: - 1st, Thomas Shitaleni 105 points, 2nd, Helmut Ndjendja 104 points, 3rd, Bertie Saunderson 91 points, 4th. Chris Heunis 85 points, 5th. Marco Swarts 80 points, Ladies: Rina Knight. The occasion was also utilized to honour our 2019 Match play Winners: Singles – Gert Breedt 3 & 1 over Antonie van Wyk, Doubles: Gary Knight/Michael Ludeke taking it on the 18th hole from Fanie Terblanche/Fritz Coetzee. So all in all a very exciting year at Rossmund – this weekend 6/7 December we Novanam/Pescanova 2019 Medal Master from left to right, Helmut Ndjendja, Thomas Shitaleni (Winner), Robertha will play the 2019 Rossmund Open sponsored by Distell.
