A statement awaited from a Brazilian court and a cell phone that is currently analyzed by experts in Israel are the only two pieces missing from the puzzle before Grant Noble and Dinath Azhar will go on trial for cocaine smuggling. The duo were nabbed last year after 412kg of cocaine were found in a container shipped from Brazil to Walvis Bay, via Cape Town. Container terminal Continues from page 1 this year. An inauguration ceremony is planned for 1 August, said a source familiar with the project yesterday. Construction commenced mid2014. The beginning phase entailed the construction of this massive man-made island (pictured above). That was followed by the construction of a quay wall and the terminal surface. Then it was roads, building infrastructure, a railway line onto the terminal as well as the installation of four gigantic ship-to-shore cranes which is visible on the picture. Also see page 3 of today’s edition.
Noisy churches Continues from page 1 Namibian Police is acting against alcohol-related crimes throughout the country. Noise pollution, in this case loud music, is also a form of social disorder and if a church is playing excessively loud music the Police would act by confiscating any of the devices used to generate the loud music. “Why must a church use large music speakers, even if the number of church goers is small? This is not sending out the right message to our communities and we expect church leaders or spiritual leaders to work with the Namibian Police on any issue that affects our society negatively rather than promoting it or resisting it”, he concluded.

Completion of container terminal on reclaimed land only months away China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) is wrapping up the nearly five years it took to construct the container terminal on reclaimed land in the port of Walvis Bay. CHEC has started to repatriate most of the construction vessels it used. For that purpose CHEC brought in a heavy lift vessel to load and transport these vessels back to China. A heavy lift vessel literally sinks in order to bring its cargo deck below the water surface. With the cargo deck below the water surface, vessels can float onto the deck. The water is then pumped out of the heavy lift vessel and it refloats and along with that lift her cargo clear out of the water. A picture on this page show some of the construction vessels on the heavy lift’s cargo deck as well as pictures that showed the progress with construction on the container terminal when Namib Times visited the site earlier this year. The container terminal will be commissioned October this year and an official opening is expected to take place in August.

Narraville elderly not happy Rudi Bowe
Narraville Clinic is losing popularity among the elderly in Narraville claiming the clinic treats them poorly and not with respect. A visit to the Narraville clinic is becoming problematic and is more of an inconvenience for the elderly residents than obtaining assistance from the nurses on duty. The already frail pensioners must sit outside and wait for their turn in the harsh Walvis Bay weather conditions. One elderly person told the Namib Times that everyone can be helped faster if the nurses put down their cell phones, stop chatting with each other and make turns to eat their breakfast and lunch. According to the elderly a large numbers of the residents from other townships in the harbour town stream to the Narraville Clinic for assistance. This results in a hold-up at the clinic and the senior citizens in Narraville not being helped and that they are suffering and are being treated with disrespect at the facility. The senior citizens said that they are told to sit and wait in a queue, and at times they do not even receive their medication. They complained many times, but nothing improved or changed and at some point they were told that it is not a clinic but a Health Care Centre. Residents agreed that services at the facility are pathetic, and often people have to quarrel in order to be treated with dignity. The senior citizens of the Narraville Township feel that the Ministry of Health and Social Services should give attention to the elderly residents in Narraville.

Revival of Karibib’s Railway station...... Press Statement TransNamib Chief Executive Officer, Mr Johny Smith says that they are on a mission to unlock the commercial value of every train station in the country. Karibib has historically always been a station of strategic importance to the mining industry. The town owes its existence to the advent of railroad development between the coast and inland Namibia in the late 1800s. In what he coins as the “Stations Strategy”, Mr Smith explains that the rail operator will start this approach by revitalising the station situated in Karibib. Karibib has historically always been a station of strategic importance to the mining industry. The town owes its existence to the advent of railroad development between the coast and inland Namibia in the late 1800s. TransNamib recognises mining's significant role in the economic development of Namibia. “The strategy for Karibib is to not only focus on its anchor commodity, the dimension stone, but rather accommodate other products mined in the area as well”, Mr Smith says. While the station has been dormant for a while, TransNamib aims to attract rail friendly cargo volumes mined in the area for export through the Port of Walvis Bay. Karibib and the surrounding areas are known for aragonite marble quarries and the Navachab Gold Mine. Dimension stones, which consist of natural rock materials, have increasingly become the mainstay of Karibib's railway station. The stones, which are quarried for obtaining blocks or slabs, consist mainly of marble and granite. Until recently, TransNamib has been transporting dimension stone for Namagra, whilst Best Cheer recently came on board as a new client. For the 2017/2018 financial year TransNamib transported 14,679 tons of marble and granite, which translates to approximately 524 containers moved for that year. With the new clients, this figure is expected to grow to approxi-
mately 115,000 tons or 4,124 containers per annum.According to Mr Smith, the train plan for thisalready exists. “It now requires effective planning and efficiency
in order to move the required volumes which are much needed for the growth of our revenue.” Source: Walvis Bay Corridor Group Media Releases.

Kudu Rugby club held a fundraising rugby day at the Narraville Rugby stadium in aid of their former rugby coach Graham "Fanco" Swartz who recently underwent an operation. The first game of the day saw the under 15 rugby team of De Duine Secondary School demolish the under fifteens of Swakopmund Secondary School 74-0 with the game between the under nineteen's was full of action with De Duine Secondary School trash the boys from SSS 57-3 in a one-side game. Sparta and Dolphins rugby clubs did not turn-up for their games against Kudus 2 and the Erongo Rugby Academy (ERA). Kudus 2 and ERA then entertained the spectators with nice running rugby with Kudus 2 the winners of the game with the final score 31-17. The last game of the day between Kudus 1 and Vikings from Swakopmund was huge with the harbour town men won the game 50-14. This coming weekend ERA will play at home against Vikings in a Namibian Rugby Union's First Division league match and Kudus 1 and 2 will take lock horns with Windhoek based Trastco United in a Premier and Reserve league games. All the games will be at the “House of Pain” in Narraville.

Fistball league 3rd round at SFC The third round action of the Bank Windhoek fistball league will take place on Saturday 8 June at the SFC. The favorites who entered the tournament will be the Cohen 1 team, which is mainly made up of national players that will participate at the world cup in Switzerland in August. They want to extend their 4-point advantage over SKW 1. In Group A, defending champions CFC 1 will face SKW 2, CFC 3 and host SFC 2. Even without their injured captain, Götz Friedrich, who suffered a shoulder injury in training and thus has to pause for 6 weeks, it should be a feasible task for the CFC 1 to achieve the group victory. As the group's underdog, SFC 2 will have a hard time winning games against their opponents from the capital city. In Group B, SKW 1, CFC 2, SFC 1 and DTS will battle it out. Although the Blue-Whites were able to push SKW 1 to a near defeat, they were not yet capable to snatch a victory. This will probably remain unchanged even in this league round. SFC 1 could prevail against the weakened Cohen 2 and reach the semi-finals for the first time this season. The first matches will kick off at 08h30.

Swakopmund Spin City women stun the audience Isaac Chikosi
Saturday was an amazing showdown of skill and passion with spinners taking the wheel at Swakopmund's Women Rock Show. The event organised by Windhoek Spin City's J Nambahu and his son “Wamboe Seun” put together an exciting line up of spinners including 064 Boys who made a guest appearance. Team Novisto, Team ARB and Team Spider also blew their tyres showing the audience women can indeed take on the male-dominated sport. The highlight for the show was of course Team Novista whose courage and ability on the track took the audience off their seats. According to Nambahu, this won't be the last time.

The NAPSO winter sport week Rudi Bowe
This year the Namibia Private Schools Organisation (NAPSO) Securitas Sports week was hosted by the Dolphin Schools in Walvis Bay. About 7000 spectators went through the gates of Jan Wilken Stadium in Walvis Bay this week from 29 May to 1 June. Fourteen private schools with over 3000 boys and girls participated in this event. The Dolphin Schools (TDS) did an excellent job in the organising of the event. It was an unforgettable event for the participants and spectators alike. The participating schools participating in nine different events were as follow: Berg-Op Akademie, Edugate Acad e m y, P r i v a t e School Elnatan, Grootfontein Agri College, Gobabis Gymnasium, Keetmanshoop Private
School, Private School Moria, Private School Swakopmund, Private School Otjiwarongo, Pro-Ed Akademie, Tsumeb Gymnasium, Windhoek Afrikaans Private School, Walvis Bay Private School, Axis Christian School, Goedehoop Private School, Walvis Bay Primary School and of course the hosts, The Dolphin Schools. The Dolphin Schools would like to thank the anchor and local sponsors and everyone that made the winder sports week successful. TDS Director Mrs Carmen Meyer said: “Events like these take
lots of planning, organising, dedication and teamwork from a big group of hardworking people. We would like to give our heartfelt appreciation to the TDS EXCO parents, teachers and staff who contributed to this fantastic event.” Mrs. Carmen Meyer added that everyone participated in the name of friendship, respect and fair play. She said that the talent, determination and hard work during this week was exceptional and that it is at event like these where all the blood, sweat and tears that was put into practicing
shines through. This event was not only proof that The Dolphin Schools can host such large events, but that this school is like family willing to help each other. The Chief Executive Officer of NAPSO, Wouter Niehaus said that pride is a little word about how
the NAPSO EXCO feels. What The Dolphin Schools did this week was great for a small school with a big heart and that The Dolphin Schools has set the standard very high and that you do not need to be a big school to organise an event like this. Niehaus thanked the
w h o l e T D S s t a ff , parents, learners and the Walvis Bay community for this wonderful week of sport in the harbour town and invited everyone to “Gymtastiese” winter sports week next year at Tsumeb Gymna-stium. The event closed with the Mr and Ms Private
Schools. Malvin Somaeb from The Dolphin Schools was crowned as Mr Private Schools 2019 and Amelia van der Merwe from Windhoek Afrkaanse Private Skool was crow-ned as Ms Private Schools 2019. Sport was the winner of the day.
