Ulu a‘e ke aloha me he pūnāwai

Wai ola hiwahiwa o Mokuhinia

Hi‘ialo i ka poli ‘o Moku‘ula

‘Ahu‘ula hiehie a Pi‘ilani

Lani ki‘eki‘e i ka ‘alaneo

Ala meheu ka‘i o nā kūpuna

Kupu a’e ka mana’o no ka pono o ka ‘āina

Nānā i nā kumu na’auao ē

Kau mālie ka ‘ohu i Kahālāwai

Wai ne’e hāinu i nā mamo o Lele

English Translation

Lahaina is a large house shaded by breadfruit trees

Love rises in the heart like a spring

Esteemed life-giving waters of Mokuhinia

Lovingly held in the bosom is Moku‘ula

Distinguished royal garment of Pi‘ilani

Majestic heavenly one in the serene expanse

Well-trodden are the pathways of our ancestors

Intentions emerge for the goodness of the land

Look toward foundational sources of wisdom

Mist gently settles at Kahālāwai

Moving waters nourish the descendants of Lele

Abundant waters that flourish in the Pa‘ūpili rain

Firmly bound by love that has no end
