MOHAMED NAZAL NAZIM
SELECTED WORKS (2017-2021)
INTRODUCTION
Life always fascinates me. People and nature, hand in hand, towards an egalitarian world - now that is my dream. I believe that great designs can move mountains and can lead populations to greatness.
I am a curious, driven, enthusiastic designer, passionate about creating opportunities for all through creative designs. I believe in the process, and that sustainability is the future; a sustainable environment must also provide sustainable living.
I began my creative drive from designing book covers at the age of fifteen to fabricating stage backdrops, graphics work and jewelery making. After designing and constructing small cafés and living on an island for a little over a year, architecture and urban planning became the career choice. I have interned under two best-in-the-field architectural, planning and construction companies, collaborated with multiple talented creative designers, and am proud to be a part of future-proof, sustainable and biophilic development plans for three islands of the Maldives. I hope we can move towards a world where we can harness and make the best of all available resources and create to solve.
When I am not sketching, making models or rendering, you can find me playing tennis, strumming my guitar and singing to my friends or taking long walks with my wife and hoping to see something intriguing or inspiring.
I am grateful to everyone I have ever met; my family, teachers, friends, lecturers and even to the squirrel who jumped out of the hedge and the peacock who chased me. I am a reflection of them all.

Core
Master Planning and Landscape Design
Binh Duong, Vietnam
GREEN CORE is about valuing what matters most in the physical and social environment. The community gravitates and stays connected,to these landscape spaces that are designed based on sound ecological principles and enriching social values. These landscape spaces also make use of modern technology to deliver quality, effective and innovative landscape solutions to harness yet respect nature and to celebrate local culture - all these make up a landscape experience for the whole community to enjoy and be proud of. For this Masterplan, sub-themes were created to offer unique character to each plots. Different landform themes are applied to define the sense of place for each plots: Plot A5Woodlands Theme Plots A6 & A7 - Hills Theme Plot A8 - Prairie Theme
The Design Language, in general, stays true to the linear signature of the Architectural Building facade. This is the landscape design of Plot A8
The Prairie : Finely textured foliage like grasses shall dominate the texture of the softscape. Colourful shrubs shall serve as highlight. Trees forms can vary from interesting shapes to geometrical.
40% internsive greenery is introduced on the roof top, podium and linkway roofs. Vertical greenwall introduced to the façade facing primary the secondary roads.
WUSD is the ability to collect stormwater and channel them intothe raingardens for filtration. The helps to store water and not to add pressure to the drainage system. This water can be reused for irrigation uses or other non potable. Planting areas and pervious/porous paving allow runoff to percolate down to recharge underground water table too.
Escape
Spatial Design Project Pasir Ris, Singapore
During this time of uncertainty and pandemic, we need a place for our our senses to vivify. Inspired by Narnia, my design consists of four different realms that awaken the five senses, regardless of where you stand on the site. It gives opportunities for us to clarify our thoughts and get in touch with our inner-selves. Each realm induces peace allowing us to re-connect with nature without bounds.
Self-cleansing/waste
Collection Strategy
Floating up to 1.7m and below (Median tide Level)
Beyond 1.7m the tensile strength will prevent the bridge from floating, hence it disappears.
Overflow warning
Trash collection Chamber powered By compressed Air
Auditory Decks
Wooden decks are made of Accoya wood and accoustic Panels that can absorb echoes and reverbs, yet allow white noise
In such times, come and disconnect from negativities, take a walk through the realms and connect to the roots. Recall back happy memories when you walk through the olfactory realm, breath in the fresh air and let the smell of fresh earth flow through. Walk through the auditory realm and listen to the echoes of the ripples, rustling leaves and the song of the birds. Let your toes sink into the sand, sit on the grass and lay side by side with the mother nature in the haptic realm. Let the butterflies flap their elegant yet fragile wings of varied hues and watch them colour the wind, slow down the time, paint the sky with your own palette and catch the god rays and read the lines between the canopies in the visual realm. Finally, wander over the bridge that magically appeared and draw on the water, look at your reflection and see what surrounds you, a whole world which envelopes you, cherishes you and invites you. You complete the world. Smile and be hopeful again.
Whenever we feel disheartened, thoughts overflow right through us, and it is overwhelming, terrifying. We feel worthless when under-appreciated, and we feel scared in times of the uncontrollable and the unexpected. In situations like the covid-19 pandemic, we become afraid, hopeless. Though it is for our wellbeing, during lockdowns, we get stuck and caged, with those who we try to avoid; from those, we try to escape. Emotions get amplified, small voices in our heads keep echoing, and we feel drained, helpless.
Healing Waters of Dakota
Adaptive Re-use Project Gibraltar, Singapore
The site is located in Sembawang and forms part of a low-rise low density development of colonial black and white bungalows. The rustic ambience, vegetated environment and the conservation-worthy colonial bungalows are the most striking characteristics of the site.
This project is aimed to provide a safe haven for people in the early stages of dementia. The inspiration for the project is the site itself, the topophilia of the site. This project is aimed to provide a safe haven for people in the early stages of dementia. The inspiration for the project is the site itself, the topophilia of the site.
During colonial times, there existed a strong connection among all those who resided within the community regardless of class, ethnicities, or age, yet it forged life-long bonds among all those who lived. People were free to walk in nature, choose their paths, and live, play, eat and work. The idea is to maximise the human-human and human-nature interactions to evoke and induce sensorial experiences and let nature itself guide the dementia patients to relaxed and happy states
The spatial elements used in the design induces the patients' senses, improves motor skills and promotes the overall wellbeing of the patients.

This project is a collaboration with the Rinbudhoo Council who iaims to create a future proof sustainable island, provide a quality living environment for ther esidents of Rinbudhoo and the best possible experience for visitors in the most organic and eco-friendly way.
Under “Fahi Rinbudhoo Plan”, Rinbudhoo island will be rejuvenated under three key aspects: social, environmental and economic sustainability.
