From the President

My Dear Colleagues, As the world begins to open back up again, a lot of uncertainty remains across the landscape of higher education. I’m personally reassured by my NAGAP membership, knowing that as a professional community we will navigate the changes on our horizon together. The focus of the summer issue of Perspectives is the key learnings and takeaways from the GEM Summit. For those that attended this year’s virtual event, I hope you were as blown away as I was by the technology, participant engagement, outstanding coordination, and the exceptional quality of the live and virtual sessions. It was SO GOOD!! Extra thanks to Conference Chair Mary Pascarella and her committee of rock stars -- Joshua Walehwa, Naronda Wright, and Brian Desrosiers-Tam. Don’t forget that you have a full year of access to all the conference recordings. If you haven’t already done so, put some time on your calendar to work your way through all of the on-demand sessions. There are a ton of great ideas just waiting for your discovery. COMING SOON – If you weren’t able to attend the virtual GEM Summit, there will be a second chance pathway to access a number of the recorded sessions available in the near future. Please watch the weekly NAGAP News email for details.

Additional opportunities to learn and network with your colleagues are already on the NAGAP events calendar. The Exchange Live webinars this year have been incredible and The NAGAP Report podcast, hosted by the incomparable Marcus Hanscom and his new co-host Lauren McGowan, have been inspiring. We’re already looking forward to another fantastic lineup of Professional Development Institutes this year, and the application portal is open for our second Leadership Academy cohort scheduled to kick off this fall. This has been a challenging year, but our membership has shared and cared for each other in ways that are simply not common among professional associations. NAGAP is special, and I’m so honored to be a part of this community. I cannot wait for our in-person reunion next year at the GEM Summit in Chicago. Put a hold on your calendars now for April 20-23, 2022! Stay strong. Stay safe. Stay connected. n With appreciation,

Jeremiah Nelson, NAGAP President
