(PTI): China is seeking to set up more robust logistics facilities in about a dozen countries, including three in India’s neighbourhood, to allow the PLA to project and sustain military power at greater distances, according to a Pentagon report.

In addition to the three neighbours of India -- Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar -- the other countries where China is considering to base its military logistics and infrastructure facilities are Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Seychelles, Tanzania, Angola and Tajikistan, the report said on Tuesday.
In its annual report “Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China (PRC) 2020” that was submitted to the US Congress, the Pentagon said these potential Chinese military logistics facilities are in addition to the Chinese military base in Djibouti, which is aimed at supporting naval, air and ground forces projection.
“A global PLA (People’s Liberation Army) military logistics network could both interfere with US military operations and support offensive operations against the United States as the PRC’s global military objec

Saudi Arabia announced Wednesday that flights to and from the United Arab Emirates “from all countries” will now be able to use its airspace — a statement apparently allowing flyovers by Israel following a deal to normalise UAEIsrael relations.
The vaguely worded statement avoided naming Israel directly. However, the announcement came just days after the kingdom allowed the first direct Israeli commercial passenger flight to use its airspace to reach the UAE. Any direct flight between the two nations would need to use Saudi airspace to be commercially viable.

China has probably already made overtures to Namibia, Vanuatu, and the Solomon Islands, it said, adding the known focus areas of PLA planning are along the Seal Lines of Communication from China to the Strait of Hormuz, Africa, and the Pacific Islands.
Similarly, the Pentagon said, Beijing uses the One Belt One Road (OBOR) intitiative to support its strategy of national rejuvenation by seeking to expand global transportation and trade linkages to support its development and deepen its economic integration with nations along its periphery and beyond. no mention of the kingdom’s rival, Iran, nor Qatar, which Saudi Arabia is currently boycotting. Flights to and from those countries to the Emirates would, in theory, not need to use the kingdom’s airspace.
The Saudi Press Agency said the move comes in response to a “request by the UAE” for flights to and from the country.
Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan wrote on Twitter that the kingdom’s “firm and established position toward the Palestinian cause will not change.”
However, even he did not directly name Israel in his tweet.

“OBOR projects associated with pipelines and port construction in Pakistan intend to decrease China’s reliance on transporting energy resources through strategic chokepoints, such as the Strait of Malacca,” it said.
China leverages the OBOR to invest in projects along China’s western and southern periphery to improve stability and diminish threats along its borders, the report said.
First announced in 2013, China’s OBOR initiative is a signature foreign and economic policy advanced by President Xi Jinping.

“For years, I have been working to open the skies between Israel and the East,” he said. “Now there is another tremendous breakthrough — Israeli planes and those from all countries will be able to fly directly from Israel to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and back.
Flights will be cheaper and shorter, and it will lead to robust tourism and develop our economy.” Earlier this week, Jared Kushner, the US president’s son-in-law and senior adviser, flew with a high-level Israeli delegation to the UAE on the first direct commercial passenger flight between the two countries, a Star of David emblazoned on the jet’s tail.
The flight traversed Saudi airspace, signaling at least acquiescence for a breakthrough US-brokered deal by the United Arab Emirates to normalise relations with Israel. Su-27 fighter. The Russian action prompted the immediate interfere with the US military operations and support offensive operations against the United States as the Chinese global military objectives evolve.
“Host nations can perform an essential role in regulating the PRC’s military operations as Chinese officials very likely recognise that a stable long-term relationship with the host nation is critical to the success of their military logistics facilities,” it said.
Chinese military academics assert that bases abroad can enable forward deployment of its forces and support military conflict, diplomatic signalling, political change, bilateral and multilateral cooperation, Thailand scraps social distancing on rail network
BA N G KO K , S E P 2
(IANS): Thailand’s Transport Ministry said on Wednesday that there is no necessity for practicing social distancing on the rail transport systems as the country had already crossed three months of zero local Covid-19 transmission.
The Ministry’s Department of Rail Transport has decided to ease social distancing measures when travelling on trains by allowing the occupancy of all seats, but passengers must wear face masks and refrain from talking to each other during the journey, said an announcement by the Ministry.
The statement said that railway service operators should check the temperature of all passengers before boarding and ensure carriages are not too packed, Xinhua news agency reported.
All passengers have been advised to wash their hands with sanitizer before boarding and after disembarking and to use the Covid-19 tracking application, the statement added. launch of the Danish Quick Reaction Alert aircraft to counter the violation, near the island of Bornholm, resulting in the lone Russian fighter to turn back before the interception. Earlier Tuesday, Minister of Defence Trine Bramsen called it an “unacceptable violation of Danish airspace”.
The Russian Defence Ministry has however denied that the fighter jet violated the Danish airspace.
“On August 28, 2020, a Su-27 fighter from the air defence duty of the Baltic Fleet was raised to identify and prevent a US Air Force B-52H strategic bomber from violating the Russian state border,” the Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
“The flight of the Russian Su-27 fighter, accompanied by an American bomber, was carried out over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea in strict accordance with international rules..., without violating the borders of other states.” and training.
They also suggest that a military logistic network could enable intelligence monitoring of the US military.
In August 2017, China officially opened its first military base in Djibouti, on the horn of Africa.
Chinese Navy Marines are stationed at the base with wheeled armoured vehicles and artillery but are currently dependent on nearby commercial ports due to the lack of a pier on base, the report said.
Chinese personnel at the facility have interfered with US flights by lasing pilots and flying drones, and China has sought to restrict Djiboutian sovereign airspace over the base, the report said.
Beyond its base in Djibouti, China is very likely already considering and planning for additional military logistics facilities to support naval, air, and ground forces projection, the Pentagon report said.
The PLA’s approach likely includes consideration of many different sites and outreach to many countries, but only some will advance to negotiations for an infrastructure agreement, status of forces or visiting forces agreement, and/or basing agreement, the report added.

WASHINGTON, SEP 2
(PTI): The entire world is beginning to unite against China’s unfair practices and countries like India, Australia, Japan and South Korea are going to partner with the US to push back Beijing on every front, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said.
The US is intensifying pressure on China, piling on visa bans, sanctions and other restrictions that are battering the already unsettled ties between the world’s two largest economies.
In an interview to Fox News on Tuesday, Pompeo said, “I think you’re seeing the entire world begin to unite around the central understanding that the Chinese Communist Party simply is going to refuse to compete in a fair, reciprocal and transparent way.”
“So, whether it’s our friends in India, our friends in Australia, friends in Japan or South Korea, I think they have all come to see the risk to their own people, to their own countries, and you’ll see them partner with the US to push back (China) on every front that we’ve talked about this evening,” he said, responding to a question posed by the host, Lou Dobbs, on India reportedly sending

Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who announced their candidacies on Tuesday.
On August 28, Abe, Japan’s longest serving Prime Minister, abruptly announced his intent to resign citing his chronic illness, but said he would remain in power until a successor was chosen.
In his announcement, the premier said that he needed to be treated for a flare-up of his intestinal disease that led his first one-year stint to end abruptly in 2007.
After stepping down in 2007 over a medical issue, he returned to the top job in 2012 after a landslide election win in the Lower House, NHK reported.

Dobbs said India’s act was in response against the clashes on the border with China, and also it appears with some affinity with the US Navy that is in the South China Sea. Dobbs wanted to know the importance of the US relationship with India in meeting the threat from China.
“It’s central that we have friends and allies in this battle. We’ve worked for two years now to build that out. We’ve made real progress. You’ve seen lots of countries turn away from Huawei. You’ve seen them acknowledge the threat. They slept on this threat the same way America did for two decades,” Pompeo said.
Beijing claims almost all of the 1.3 million square mile South China Sea as its sovereign territory. China has been building military bases on artificial islands in the region also claimed by Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam.
India has been maintaining that the South China Sea is a “part of global commons” and it firmly stands for the freedom of in these international waterways.
The US had also categorically rejected the territorial claims made by Beijing in the South China Sea, asserting that the “Chinese predatory world view” has no place in the 21st century.
During the interview, Pompeo said America slept while China grew.
“You talked about their missile systems, their military, all the things that have grown...the trade issues, all the economic issues that you’ve talked about on your show for months and months and months now.
“President (Donald) Trump is taking each of these on in a serious way, and I think you see the rhetoric from the Chinese Communist Party ratcheting up because they are feeling the pressure that’s being put on them by this administration,” he said.
