Trump vows to ‘totally destroy’ North Korea

United Nations, Sep 19 (IANS): In his maiden address to the UN General Assembly, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday trumpeted his own achievements and pledged to “totally destroy” North Korea after calling its regime a “band of criminals”. Amid escalating crisis in the Korean peninsula, a combative Trump referred to “rogue nations” as “the scourge of our planet.” Moments later, he called out North Korea by name, rattling off a list of human rights violations in that country. Speaking about North Korea’s nuclear threat, he dubbed the Pyongyang regime “depraved” and a “band of criminals”. He urged the UN to further isolate it by imposing more sanctions and threatened to “totally destroy” the country. He referred to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un a “rocket man”, adding that the dictator was on a suicide mission with his nuclear programme that has trig-

2-lane project: CCPO asks govt to hasten process DIMAPUR, SEP 19 (NPN): Drawing the attention of the state government over delay in issuing land encumbrance free clearance to the union ministry regarding Pfutsero-Phek two-lane road project under SARDP, the Centre Chakhesang Public Organization (CCPO) on Tuesday said that the delay was hindering the process for resumption/fresh tender of the said road project. In a press release, CCPO president, Nehusa Cukhamu, and general secretary, Shepo Hesuh, pointed out that CCPO at its general public meeting on June 8, 2011 had unanimously resolved to donate land for construction of Pfutsero-Phek two-lane road via Sakraba-Khomi under SARDP-NE Phase ‘A’ except for compensation to those owners whose agriculture and allied projects were to be damaged and to be affected standing houses/buildings. Subsequently, CCPO said the said resolution and clearance from all seven village councils (Porba, Sakraba, Gidemi, Pholami, Upper Khomi, Middle Khomi and Lower Khomi villages) along with the vice chairman of Sakraba town ad hoc committee was submitted to the concerned authority. gered global concerns. Trump, who took office in January, also focussed on himself. He opened his address by saying that the US had done well since he entered the White House. The stock market was at an all time high and unemployment in the US was at its lowest level. Trump told the world leaders at the UN that terrorists were gaining strength everywhere but insisted that peace was possible. “To put it simply, we meet at a time of both immense promise and great peril. Terrorists and extremists have gathered strength

and spread to every region of the planet.” The US, he said, was prepared to combat global instability through military might. “Our military will soon be the strongest it has ever been.” He underlined that he would always put American interests above all else. And he quickly urged other nations to do the same. “In America, we do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example for everyone to watch.” Over the past week, Trump has signalled his frustrations with the Iranian nuclear deal that former President Barack Obama made. On Tuesday, he derided the deal. “Frankly, that deal is an embarrassment to the United States, and I don’t think you’ve heard the last of it - believe me.” His comments came a day after Iranian Presid e n t H a s s a n Ro u h a n i warned that the US would pay a “high cost” if Trump scrapped the agreement.

NNPGs ask Rio to clarify position on ‘interim govt’ remark Staff Reporter

DIMAPUR, SEP 19 (NPN): Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) Working Committee (WC) has asked Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio to clarify his position on the statement made by him to a news agency claiming that an ‘Interim Government’ would be installed in the state if solution is arrived at before the elections. Rio told IANS recently that “If the Naga solution comes before the assembly election then there will be an interim government for a brief period as many things will be happening and things will fall into place. And then, only later on can we talk about the next elections.” NNPGs Working Committee said Rio, by making such statement, sent a “wrong signal” and has “confused the people”. At a time when Nagas have expressed the desire for inclusive permanent solution and the Government of India and NNPGs yet to start a political dialogue, the Working Committee said Rio should refrain from making such “bombastic statements for his own political mileage”. “Government of India is just about to invite the NNPGs to start political dialogue, so how can Rio say that there will be an interim government when the dialogue has not yet started”, the Working Committee stated. ENSF not to participate in DoSE written exam DIMAPUR, SEP 19 (NPN): Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) on Tuesday while expressing dismay at the “adamant attitude” of the department of school education (DoSE) stated that it has decided not to participate in written examination for recruitment of graduate teacher (GT) mathematics and science under DoSE scheduled to be held on September 25, 2017. In a press release, ENSF president, Sepili L. Sangtam, and general secretary, Imtichoba Chang, asserted that the federation was compelled to take such decision against the department “evidently violating” government notification No.EDS/-7/2008 dated January 9, 2009 and “consequently prejudicing the interest and rights of the Eastern Nagas.” ENSF stated that the department, despite several

representations and appeals, chose to ignore the genuine demands of the federation. In this regard, the federation has directed all the bona fide aspirants of Eastern Nagaland to “restrain from taking part in the said examination till further notice.” ENSF has also asked the department not to make any single appointment against the posts “which rightfully belongs to the Eastern Nagas (viz Phom/Konyak/Chang/ Khiamuniungan/Sangtam & Yimchunger.” The federation affirmed that it would not shy away from protecting and safeguarding the rights of the Eastern Nagaland and would fight till justice delivered. Meanwhile, ENSF has cautioned that the department would be held solely responsible in the event of any untoward situation arose during the process.

Fin deptt response ‘flimsiest’: NPRAAF DIMAPUR, SEP 19 (NPN): Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) has termed the response of the Finance department over the issue involving construction of 17 hostels as “the flimsiest and most unsatisfactory excuse ever encountered by NPRAAF from any government department”. NPRAAF had disclosed that as per RTI, the Finance department had issued Drawal Authority (DA) twice for the same project, amount and place. NPRAAF asked, that if the amount was released under CSS “Grants under Proviso to Article 275 (1) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India,” as stated by FD, then why the same was not mentioned in the two Drawal Authority for construction of 17 hostels?. NPRAAF demanded that Finance department furnish sanction copy of the government of India for the two DAs and also document for construction of four hostels for 400 ST girls, to show that the amount came under the ambit of Article 275 (1). It said if any sanction was received under Article 275 (1), the FD normally releases the amount mentioning the same as in the case of Rs 17 crore which was released on June 16, 2016 vide NO.BUD/8-27/2016-17/LA/644 with break up details for various projects.

NPRAAF asked what exception and intention did the FD not mention in the two DAs that the construction of 17 hostels was under Article 275 (1)? As long as the FD does not furnish GoI sanction copy for these two DAs, the expenditure still remains doubtful, it said. NPRAAF also wondered why the FD chose to remain silent on the beneficiary list of CM Corpus Fund against which a total amount of Rs 2.46 crore was released on two occasions.

Alleges more irregularities

NPRAAF also brought out another alleged irregularity by the FD on March 31,2017 when the same validity vide NO.BUD/827/2016-17/ZP/010 through DA no.91 of 2016-17 under demand no. 27- Planning Machinery released Rs 31.90 crore “for activities under Provision to Art 275 (1) of the Constitution of India vide GOI letter no. 11015/4 (8)2016-Grant dated 30.03.2017.” However, NPRAAF said the FD did not mention in the DA as to what “activities” it referred to. Further it said there was also no break up details against the amount released. Again on June 29,2017 NPRAAF claimed that FD released Rs 19.89 crore vide NO.BUD/8-27/2017-18/QA/660 through DA no. 8 of 2017-18 under demand no. 27 – Planning

voice for the needy instead of becoming self-centred. NTC PIL: HC seeks reply from govt Organizations flay life attempt DI M AP U R , SEP 1 9 (NPN): The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) against the appointment of “unconstitutional advisors and parliamentary secretaries” was heard by the division bench of the Gauhati High Court (GHC) headed by the Chief Justice, Ajit Singh and Justice Manojit Bhuyan on September 18, 2017, NTC media cell stated in a press note. After hearing the learned senior advocate, S. Dutta and advocate NN Jamir, the High Court bench issued notice of Motion to the respondents made returnable within six weeks, NTC said. On September 11, the GHC, Kohima bench after hearing the PIL filed by NTC, referred the matter to the chief justice of the High Court. NTC was optimistic that the Gauhati High Court

would declare the advisors and parliamentary secretaries of Nagaland as unconstitutional within due course of time. It may be pointed out that the Supreme Court in its landmark judgement on July 26, 2017 declared the appointment of parliamentary secretaries as unconstitutional. NTC said the appointments of advisors and parliamentary secretaries, made by the chief minister, in Nagaland since 2005 was in total violation of article 164 (IA) of the Constitution of India and in absolute distortion of the Nagaland Rules of Executives Business, 1980. Further, NTC said the chief minister had no authority/power to administer oath of secrecy within the ambit and parameter of the Constitution of India. As such, NTC said the administering of oath of se-

crecy by chief minister, T.R. Zeliang to nine advisors and 26 parliamentary secretaries on July 25, 2017 was illegal and unconstitutional. It reminded that the 91st Constitutional Amendment, which was mandatory for the union government and state governments, has put a ceiling that the numbers of the council of ministers in the union government and state governments should not exceed 15% of the total number of the house (Lok Sabha/State Assembly) or not less than 12. In sound applicability of this mandatory constitutional provision, NTC said Nagaland should have only 12 ministers in the government. “The unconstitutional appointment of advisors and parliamentary secretaries have heavy financial burden on state ex-chequer which is unnecessary, unfair and unreasonable,” it said.

DIMAPUR, SEP 19 (NPN): Four business organizations - Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI), Business Associations of Nagas (BAN), East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA) and Chumukedima Chambers of Commerce and Trade Association (CCCTA), have condemned the “dastardly act” of the NSCN (K) on the life attempt meted to proprietor of Kuda Cold Storage, L Doulo on September 18 in Dimapur. In a joint statement, the business bodies said that since the action of NSCN (K) has defiled the prevailing peaceful atmosphere, it would not remain a mere spectator. Also, terming it as unimaginable on the “brutish attempt” on the life of a “humble and soft spoken grandfather”, the statement said “it was beyond the realm of reason that yearly commercial tax notice was issued twice to the same enterprise by the same NPG”. In this regard, the four busi-

ness organizations have served a 15-day deadline to the responsible authority demanding that the perpetrators involved be arrested immediately and dealt with as per the law of the land. They further warned that failure to arrest the perpetrators will invite appropriate and befitting action. KCCI: Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has strongly condemned the murder attempt on L. Doulo, proprietor of M/s. Kuda Cold Storage by unidentified armed miscreants on Monday. KCCI information & publicity secretary reiterated its stand against taxation and unethical use of forceful means on trading community. KCCI said such “unlawful activities” should be condemned by all right thinking citizens. KCCI therefore strongly urged the law enforcing agencies to book the perpetrators and deliver justice to the traumatized victim in particular and the business community as a whole.

Machinery “for implementation of various activities under Art 275 (1) of the constitution as per release made by GOI vide F.No.11015/4(8)2016-Grant dated 23.3.2017.” In this case too, there was no mention of as to what “various activities” mean nor the break-up details for the purported “activities” was given. NPRAAF therefore urged upon the FD to furnish break-up details of activities for which an amount of Rs 51.79 crore (Rs 31.90 cr + Rs 19.89 cr) was released. It said additionally if Rs 17 core released on June 16, 2016 was added, the total amount so far released under Article 275 (1) comes to Rs 68.79 crore (Rs 51.79 cr + Rs 17 cr). Since the FD had issued sanction under Art 275 (1) and subsequently released by FD but without any break-up details or mention in DAs that the amount was under Art 275 (1), NPRAAF strongly suspected that such doubtful expenditures could run into hundreds of crores. In this connection, NPRAAF appealed to the State Vigilance Commission to immediately inquire into this issue relating to Art 275 (1) fund release and bring out the truth in the interest of the public. NPRAAF also expressed appreciation on the FD but demanded it furnish in public domain all details of funds received under Art 275 (1).

DIMAPUR, SEP 19 (NPN): Nagaland GB Federation (NGBF) has described making Aadhaar mandatory in every official work as “inappropriate and a hasty decision”. In a press release, NGBF president, Shaleem Konyak, and general secretary, Shikuto Zalipu, expressed dismayed at the government’s order to link Aadhaar with BPL cards in such a short period of time not realizing infrastructure shortcoming especially in rural areas. NGBF pointed out that people living in rural areas were still not aware of Aadhaar and were wary of it being made. Therefore, the NGBF has appealed to the government not to enforce linking Aadhaar with BPL card, saying that would lead to the majority of BPL card holders being denied of their benefits. “And if it becomes absolutely necessary, we appeal to the govt. to extend the time period wherein we can reach out to as many beneficiaries as possible,” NGBF stated.

NSF on Aadhaar-SIM link

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has informed the general public not to pay any amount for linking Aadhaar card with SIM card as the service was free of cost. Torrential rain triggers flood in Mnp

In the police action, three students from the CC Higher Secondary School and another from the DM College of Science sustained injuries. They were immediately rushed to Raj Medicity hospital at North AOC and Shija Hospital at Langol in Imphal for medical treatment. A staff of the directorate also sustained injuries. Later, addressing a news conference at its office, AMSU president Manjit Sarangthem condemned the police action and demanded apology from the government. He said the director had prompted the students to stage such protest as he failed to clear the pending scholarships for the OBC students despite his assurance to clear it before September 10.

Hackathon to make Shillong city clean

DP-9899

IMPHAL, Sep 19: Four students were Tuesday injured when police baton (lathi) charged a group of students who stormed the office of the directorate of minority and other backward classes demanding disbursement of scholarship of the OBC students. Earlier, a large number of students under the aegis of the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) gathered in front of the office of the directorate of minority and other backward classes carrying placards. The students also demanded the resignation of director for failing to translate his words into action. The director had earlier assured the students that the pending scholarship would be released on or before

September 10. With all the entry gates locked, angry students resorted to violent action and vandalized one of the entrance gates and forcibly entered the office complex. Even after the students were inside the office complex, the staff continued to resist them by closing the iron shutter. However, the irate students vandalized the iron shutter in a bid to storm the office chamber of the director. While the students and staff of the directorate were engaged in heated exchange of words, a team of police arrived and attempted to convince the agitating students. However, as the situation turned out of control, the police fired several rounds of mock bomb and baton-charged the students.

Mohammad Taslimuddin Purnia, Sep 19 (AGENCIES): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Taslimuddin was laid to rest with full state honours at his native village Sisauna in Bihar’s Araria district, 316 km northeast of state capital Patna, on Tuesday. Taslimuddin, 74, a former Union minister of state for home affairs, had passed away in a Chennai hospital on Sunday. The RJD MP was admitted to the hospital on August 24 after he suddenly developed breathing problem. He had gone to Chennai in connection with a parliamentary committee meeting. His body was flown to Bagdogra in neighbouring West Bengal and taken to his village by road via Kishanganj and Purnia on Monday . A large number of people were present at the burial ground to have last glimpse of the departed leader. Many political leaders, including RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Bihar rural development and parliamentary affairs minister Shrawan Kumar, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shahnawaz Hussain, Kishanganj MP Maulana Asrarul Haque, Congress MP Ranjit Ranjan, Madhepura MP Rajesh Ranjan, Bhagalpur MP Bulo Mandal and senior RJD leader Shivanand Tiwary, also attended the last rites of the Araria MP. Paying tributes to Taslimuddin, Lalu Prasad said he always fought for communal harmony and social justice. His untimely death was an irreparable loss to Bihar and the RJD, Prasad said before leaving for Ranchi in connection with hearing in fodder scam cases.

Kashmir terror funding: 2 accused give confessional statements

S r i naga r , S e p 1 9 (AGENCIES): The National Investigation Agency has secured recorded confessional statements on the flow of money, especially from Pakistan, from two persons accused in a case related to the funding of terror activities in Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday. The statements made before a judicial magistrate had tightened the case against separatists who allegedly funded stone-pelters and spread unrest in the Valley, NIA officials said on the condition of anonymity. While one has been formally arrested, the other was detained and subsequently let off after he said he would turn approver, the officials said, declining to divulge their names. The former, arrested on July 24 this year after his house was raided by the central probe agency, approached NIA sleuths, giving his consent for recording his confessional statement. He gave a detailed account of how funds were sent from Pakistan-based terror organisations as well as its external snooping agency ISI to separatists based in the Valley, the of-

ficials said. The other person who has recorded his confessional statement is a close aide of pro-Pakistan separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. A confessional statement is recorded before a judicial magistrate. The accused confirms in it that he or she is giving a statement without any pressure from the probe agency. The entire process is videographed and no investigation officer is present in the court premises during the proceedings. In case of retraction later, the agency can file a case of perjury. The NIA has arrested 10 people so far in connection with alleged funding of terror activities case. The list includes Altaf Ahmed Shah, the son-in-law of Geelani, and noted businessman Zahorr Watali. Geelani’s close aides Ayaz Akbar, who is also spokesperson of the hardline separatist organisation Tehreek- e-Hurriyat, and Peer Saifullah have been also been arrested. Others in the list are Shahid-ul-Islam, spokesperson of the moderate Hurriyat Conference, Meh-

rajuddin Kalwal, Nayeem Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar alias ‘Bitta Karate’, photojournalist Kamran Yusuf and Javed Ahmed Bhat. The NIA had registered a case on May 30 against the separatist and secessionist leaders, including unknown members of the Hurriyat Conference, who have been acting in connivance with active militants of proscribed terrorist organisations Hizbul Mujahideen, Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and other outfits and gangs, officials said. The case was registered for raising, receiving and collecting funds through various illegal means, including hawala, for funding separatist and terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir and for causing disruption in the Valley by way of pelting stones on the security forces, burning schools, damaging public property and waging war against India, the probe agency said in the FIR. Hafiz Saeed, the Pakistan-based chief of the Jamaat-ud- Dawa, the front of the banned terrorist organisation Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT), has been named in the FIR as an accused.

Jayant Sinha New Delhi, Sep 19 (IANS): India would need Rs 3-4 lakh crore investment in aviation infrastructure in the next 10-15 years to reach 50 crore passenger trips, like China and the US, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said on Tuesday. “We will need Rs 3-4 lakh crore investment in airports in the next 10-15 years. China today has got 50 crore passenger trips even if they have a high speed rail network. The US too has 90 crore passenger trips,” said Sinha at the unveiling of the Economic Times Infra Visionaries Coffee Table Book. Stating that investments in the aviation sector had increased ever since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, Sinha said in the fiscal year 2014-15, 10 crore passengers travelled in planes, which increased to 16 crore in 2015-16. “We have grown 1617 per cent in the last three years. In 2017, we grew 15.6 per cent. India will continue to grow 15-16 per cent. We are doubling the total growth and expect to have 20 crore passengers in 2018,” said Sinha.

JD(U) pushes for Sharad Yadav’s disqualification from Rajya Sabha NEW DELHI, Sep 19 (AGENCIES): Referring to the decision of the Tamil Nadu Assembly speaker to disqualify 18 AIADMK MLAs from the House, the JD(U) on Tuesday demanded a similar action against two of its rebel MPs, Sharad Yadav and Ali Anwar. Janata Dal (United) chief spokesperson K C Tyagi, in a statement, said Yadav and Anwar acted in a manner, similar to that of the AIADMK MLAs, by indulging in “anti-party” activities. The party has already approached the Rajya Sabha chairman, seeking disqualification of the two MPs, who were on Monday given one more week by the House to respond to the JD(U)’s charges against them. Tyagi also took exceptions to the statements of Congress leader Anand Sharma and CPI(M)’s Sitaram Yechury, both of whom have asked the chairman to refer the matter to the Ethics and Privileges Committee. He said the Chairman, M Venkaiah Naidu, was a competent authority to take a decision on the matter and added that comments from “outsiders” were not “appreciable” with regard to such constitutional matters. Tyagi cited the Tamil Nadu Assembly speaker’s decision to make his point and said the JD(U) welcomed the disqualification of the AIADMK MLAs from the House. “This has again highlighted the wide powers conferred on a speaker under the 10th Schedule [Articles 102(2) and 192 (2)] of the Constitution. It gives him power to disqualify a mem-

Sharad Yadav ber of the House, belonging to any political party, if the latter has voluntarily given up the membership of the party,” he said. The case in the Tamil Nadu Assembly fell under the above mentioned constitutional rule, which allowed the speaker to judge if any member had voluntarily relinquished his party membership, the JD(U) leader said. The rebels in the JD(U) were also facing a similar trial in the Rajya Sabha and Sharad Yadav was asked not to attend the Patna rally of the RJD on August 27 and warned that if he did so, he would be considered to have voluntarily given up the party membership, he added. Tyagi also pointed out that the speaker of the Uttarakhand Assembly had, in 2016, disqualified nine rebel Congress MLAs under the anti-defection law. Eighteen AIADMK MLAs, said to be loyal to the party’s deputy chief, TTV Dhinakaran, were on Monday disqualified by Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal amid a power tussle in the ruling party in the southern state.

Teenage girl says gang-raped, forced to eat meat: Police NEW DELHI, Sep 19 (AGENCIES): A 16-yearold girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar has filed a police complaint, alleging that four youths gang-raped her for 10 days after keeping her in captivity and forced her to eat meat and even exerted pressure on her to change her religion. “The girl has filed an FIR against four youths -- Akram, Aslam, Ayyub and Salim -- for gang-raping for about 10 days,” said Mohammad Rizwan, circle officer in Bhopa. Police said the girl told them that she started for Muzaffarnagar to meet her maternal uncle, who stays in Kukra village in New Mandi area on September 6. She said she was waiting for a bus at the village bus stand, when the four youths, who were also going to Muzaffarnagar in their car, offered her a lift. She readily accepted as the youths were known to her. As soon as she entered the car, the youths allegedly pointed a gun at her and covered her eyes with a black strip. She said in her police complaint that the four youths took her to different places where they raped her. During her confinement, she said the youths also made her consume meat and even exerted pressure on her to change her religion. On September 16, the youths set her free near the Ganga canal bridge on the village outskirts, and threatened her with dire consequences if she informed police, the official said.

Government ‘names and shames’ ousted directors of shell companies

New Delhi, Sep 19 (AGENCIES): In a first-ofa-kind ‘name and shame’ exercise, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MoCA) has begun making public lists of disqualified directors across the nation as well as those associated with companies that have been struck off. Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, jailed politician V.K. Sasikala, Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chennithala and Gulf-based business tycoon M.A. Yusufali are some of the prominent names figuring in these lists. Four ‘shell companies’ linked to Sasikala, jailed aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, are among the companies struck off by the Registrar of Companies (RoC) in Chennai. This follows a MoCA September 12 statement, which stated that as on that day, it had identified 1.06 lakh directors of ‘shell companies’ for disqualification under the relevant provisions of the Companies Act, 2013. The move is a part of actions to break the network of ‘shell companies’ and further the fight against black money/money laundering, it said. Several Malayalee businessmen, leading politicians, top civil servants, and police officers figured in the lists. Yusufali, a hugely successful non-resident Indian businessman, has been hit by his association

A persecuted race

R

onghiya Muslims are unwanted everywhere and have become the world’s most persecuted race. Thousands have been shot dead, women raped and babies thrown into bonfires by the Buddhist extremists and Myanmarese army. The Nagas in Myanmar had also experienced the horror under Buddhist extremists and Myanmarese armymen but the ethnic cleansing on Ronghiyas is unparalleled. The persecution of the Ronghiyas also highlights the silence of Aung San Suu Kyi, destroying another myth of ethics and human rights. Her global campaign for human rights won her the Peace Nobel but her statements in shielding the repressive Myanmar junta under which she was denied power and interned for several decades now stands embarrassingly hypocritical if her stand today is part of her broader political strategy. India, which had given refuge to several thousand Bangladeshis fleeing the genocide under Pakistani military in erstwhile East Pakistan is applying a different yardstick regarding Ronghiyas. India has thrown all the humanitarian values and Gandhian principles to the waste paper basket by refusing to provide shelter to the displaced people by denouncing all of them as terrorists. Despite widespread accusations against the Myanmar government of genocide and ethnic cleansing of Ronghiyas, India appears determined to deport around 40,000 Ronghiya refugees. In its affidavit given to the apex court, the Foreigners’ Division of the home ministry emphasised that there have been intelligence reports that some Ronghiyas are involved in militancy and are very active in places such as Delhi, Jammu, Hyderabad and Mewat. However none of the states and their police intelligence units have come up with any clear evidence of any Ronghiya refugee being a terrorist. Interestingly India has received and granted citizenship to lakhs of Buddhist Tibetians and also Chakma-Hajong refugees from Bangladesh. India is also prepared to accept lakhs of Bangladeshi Hindus and grant them citizenship status in Assam, an issue that has caused uproar among the local populace. In Arunachal the state government has granted citizenship status to Chakmas and Hajongs which has led the Arunachal Pradesh students to vehemently oppose the decision. The students have gone on rampage against the government decision. Chakmas and Hajongs fit into the Bharatiya Janata Party’s plan to grant citizenship to non-Muslim minorities fleeing persecution in neighbouring countries. The provision was made in the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill of 2016. From the initial 14,888 settled in Arunachal Pradesh, the population of Chakmas and Hajongs are said to have increased to 64,000. The predominantly Buddhist Chakmas and the Hindu Hajongs are among the earliest persecuted groups to have sought refuge in India. They were settled in Arunachal Pradesh between 1964 and 1969 in Bordumsa-Diyun areas under Changlang district and Kokila area of Papum Pare district. The issue of threat from Ronghiya refugees is an excuse because if it was so, then all refugees should also be thrown back. The government of India has backed the Myanmarese government over the Ronghiya issue and in doing so, lowered its global image abroad as a champion of human rights. It does not mean that all refugees be granted citizenship but that there is a need to provide shelter till such a time other arrangements are made.

DailyDevotion Are You Going on With Jesus? You are those who have continued with Me in My trials. —Luke 22:28 It is true that Jesus Christ is with us through our temptations, but are we going on with Him through His temptations? Many of us turn back from going on with Jesus from the very moment we have an experience of what He can do. Watch when God changes your circumstances to see whether you are going on with Jesus, or siding with the world, the flesh, and the devil. We wear His name, but are we going on with Him? “From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more” (John 6:66). The temptations of Jesus continued throughout His earthly life, and they will continue throughout the life of the Son of God in us. Are we going on with Jesus in the life we are living right now? We have the idea that we ought to shield ourselves from some of the things God brings around us. May it never be! It is God who engineers our circumstances, and whatever they may be we must see that we face them while continually abiding with Him in His temptations. They are Histemptations, not temptations to us, but temptations to the life of the Son of God in us. Jesus Christ’s honor is at stake in our bodily lives. Are we remaining faithful to the Son of God in everything that attacks His life in us? Are you going on with Jesus? The way goes through Gethsemane, through the city gate, and on “outside the camp” (Hebrews 13:13). The way is lonely and goes on until there is no longer even a trace of a footprint to follow— but only the voice saying, “Follow Me” (Matthew 4:19).

ongress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is wrong when he says that all of India runs on dynasties. Ruling means wielding power at the centre. Only Jawaharlal Nehru’s family has had the opportunity to do so. Nehru ruled for 17 years, his daughter Indira Gandhi for 18 years and Rajiv Gandhi, son of Indira Gandhi for 5 years. Thus, the dynasty has been in power at the centre for 40 years, more than half of the period since independence in August 1947. Nehru saw to it that his daughter would rule, if not soon after his rule but in due course. When I was working as Information Officer to Lal Bahadur Shastri then the Home Minister, I would to tell him to get ready, particularly, when Nehru had a stroke. Shastri told me that unke man me to unki saputri he (His daughter in his mind), adding that it would not be easy. He would not challenge Pandit Ji and go back to Allahabad. But Morarji

Is India run by dynasty?

Desai would not accept Indira Gandhi. This happened when Nehru died. K.Kamraj, the then Congress President, was a staunch follower of Nehru. He wanted, who he had discovered, was one key that opened many locks. Sanjiva Reddy from the South, Atulya Ghosh from Calcutta and S.K.Patil from Bombay were stalwarts in their own right but were willing to accept Shastri because he did not push himself to give them the feeling as if they were not equal. I was working as Political Correspondence of Indian Express. I wrote at that time that: “In the hush of a summer night in 1963, five men groped their way to a sequestered bungalow overlooking an expansive valley in the temple town of Tirupati down South. One was ungainly and heavy, another portly, the third brisk and breezy, the fourth, slight in stature, and the fifth looked like a muscular wrestler. All of them came from different directions to defy detec-

tion, and they succeeded in doing so. There was hardly anybody in the streets. Most people had gone to bed to get sufficient sleep before responding to the p r e - d aw n call of the Kuldip temple”. After Shastri’s death, power reverted back to the dynasty. Rahul Gandhi, is, however, correct when he criticizes Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating an ‘atmosphere of intolerance’. As many as 17 crores Muslims in the country do not figure anywhere. They have also withdrawn from the public gaze. It is as if they have accepted themselves the status of being number-2 citizen in their own country. On the other hand, the Hindus on the whole have not forgiven them for partition. Even today, when there is tension between India and Pakistan, the Muslims are seen with the eye of mistrust. Even otherwise they are left to fend for themselves in the localities which are slums. Employment-

wise, they can be counted on fingers. Very few make in competitive exams. The Sachar’s committee has brought out how their plight is worse than that of dalits. The Hindus have to reNayar trieve them from the pool of poverty. But they are left to wallow in the abyss of helplessness. Partition on the basis of religion has drawn a line whereby the Muslims in India have suffered the most and still they are for the religious prejudice. Even mixed colonies are disappearing and Muslims feel safe among their own community people when the living condition is impossible. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule, the gulf between the two is increasing. RSS men are seeing to it that no Muslim holds a key position in the public sector. I recall that a Muslim engineer who dropped me at the Srinagar airport complained that he had gone to Bangalore in search of a job but was rejected straightaway

An appeal to Nagas on political issue Genuine regionalists:

T

he Indo-Naga peace talk is at the crucial and final stage, for which all the Nagas irrespective of Eastern, Southern, Western, Northern and Central Nagas must come together and walk the talk to achieve our long cherish dream raising one voice of unity. Fighting of our rights in different directions and approaching as the revolutionaries from the GOI for the past decadesrevealed the uniqueness of the Nagas – its peoples’ culture, tradition, history and identity. We salute and sincerely appreciate our esteemed leaders and people behind them both past and present who have been going through all the rough paces for their sacrifices and achievement thus far. Our only goal is to achieve freedom from the GOI and the only possible solution before us is through peace talk. Hence, at this juncture, everyonemust humble down in the name of God, affirming and coagulating our unity by way of respectingthe Indo-Naga peace talk with the GOI. We must totally avoid a dissing manner of blame game with one anotherand bury the hatchet or blaming GOI for delaying Naga issue. The writing on the wall need to be taken a great care by all responsible Nagas, as the GOI hasclearly stated that “there

will be only one Naga peace talk and only One Naga Solution for all the Nagas.” The GOI headed by the Prime MinisterShri. NarendraModi is keen to solve the Naga political issue at the earliest possible time. Meanwhile, the peace talk is at the advance stage which is likely to ink the final peace settlement. It is on our part to reciprocally support the peace talk with good faith and prayer for the Naga issue to hammer out which will be acceptable and honourable for all the Nagas.Besides that, as we anticipate the best solution, it is imperative to pray for our leaders who are spearheading for the cause. May the spirit of“forgive and forget”of the past mistakesandreconciliation amongst us in the name of God be one of our regulative principles in our making. I, myself as a layman but concerned Naga fervently appeal all the Naga factions, public leaders of different CSO, elected Naga MLAs & MPs, intellectuals & scholars, religious leaders, and general public to genuinely come to God and seek His guidance for the wellbeing of Naga people in solidarity with one accord. “Let us patiently wait and look forward for better days are ahead of us.” Liangkebou Pamai

Who and where?

S

ometime in the early sixties, some likeminded and deeply concerned leaders conceived of an idea for approaching the Naga Issue which is multi-dimensional in nature and of huge magnitude in proportion. They received prompt and positive responses from all districts and tribes, leading to the formation of a Regional Party in the State. This was to function as the principal agent or catalyst for political solution/settlement of the Naga Movement/Struggle in a democratic and peaceful manner (following the inauguration of Nagaland as the 16th State of Indian Union). These elders and leaders have made a lot of sacrifices on many occasions, true to their calling. They never became rich nor popular. In fact, their deeds seemed to have evaporated over the passing times or years, yet they laid down a solid foundation with great Heart, Vision and Hope for onward transmission to later generations. Today we struggle and fight to sieve and filter the best out of the muddy water. May something emerge out of this quagmire, from this present rough-andtumble bickering to recapture the original philosophy of our unsung pioneers in the interest and for the welfare of all our people at large. when his credentials were known. Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, f o u n d e r o f Pa k i s t a n , envisaged that the both countries, one with Hindu majority and the other with Muslim majority would conduct affairs in such a way that religion does not come in the way of state affairs. It is a pity that the Congress has become irrelevant. Otherwise, it could have provided secular platform to the country. Rahul Gandhi would increasingly realize that his party would have to work at the grassroots once again and try to change the temperament of the people. India fought for a democratic and secular country both Mahatama Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru reminded the people of their heritage which had both Hindus and Muslims as it’s inherent. In fact, it is surprising that Nehru’s name is sought to be effaced. Liberal BJP leader, Atal Behari Vajpayee was an ardent follower of Nehru.

We have lavishly exploited without replenishing much to our forest and its resources. Various efforts have been taken to bring about afforestation and protection of our forests for climate change. A success story was scripted in May of 2015 in the Pughoboto subdivision, when a massive plantation drive was carried out like no other under the theme ‘GREEN PUGHOBOTO’ for the 24 villages under Pughoboto division, initiated by the local MLA and the then Minister of Roads and Bridges, Y. n Indian Nobel Peace Prize winner said he would not like to live in India if Narendra Modi wins in the last Lok Sabha Election. Modi won the Election not by Landslide but by a Tsunami Typhoon. The renowned Prizewinner quietly stayed on in India occasionally going here and there giving world class Lecture on interesting subjects. Something similar may happen to me, but still, would say I really do not like to live in a Government under the control of the NSCN IM in Nagaland. Some of the Points of Discussions NSCN (IM) is carrying on currently with the Government of India have come out in most of the local News Papers of Nagaland on 16 September 2017. The Points are shown in such a manner and grammar as if it is already settled; a trick of writing the MIP of the IM is at par excellence. For the last many years and always they mention the Talk is in the Highest Level, in a very important

Stage, a Crucial Stage, or a Sensitive State and took 20 years to bring out the Points of Pan Naga Hoho in such a mixed-up detail ordinary Readers could not make head or tail of it. It is not clear whether the Pan Naga Hoho is a Legislative Body, an Executive Body, or a Judicial Body. Somewhere they depict it as if it is an Executive Body, at other place they seem to show it as an Executive body with the Supreme Yariwoo Chairman meddling as sovereign “all in one and one in all”. He is the Chairman of the Pan Naga Hoho as well as the Commander in Chief of the Army, Navy and Airforce with power to select the Members of the Hoho, to dismiss the guilty Kilonsers and the Head in the governance of the Hoho. The Yariwoo even precedes the Governor-General representing the President of India in the Pan Naga Hoho Working framework. In all these functions, the Yariwoo, Chairman is the Highest and does everything by Selections.

Democracy the highest Institution Man has developed so far is not in the Workings of the Government except in Nagalim. Not once has Democracy, Democratic Procedure or Democratic Norms are mentioned in the Points of discussion. Without Election, there is no Democracy. ‘Election’ has not been mentioned anywhere in the proposition of Pan Naga Hoho. The Pan Naga Hoho is supposed to have extra Territorial power, “Being a statutory body, it will function beyond territorial limits of any State”. Nagalim Government, without an inch of Territory, is an extra Territorial Authority and would be controlling the State of Nagaland even beyond what the Parliament of India does; Incomprehensible! The IM is proposing to control Nagaland which has Special Constitutional Provision the Parliament has guaranteed her: Article 371(A) says: (I)Notwithstanding anything in this Constitution, -

Once when Vajpayee was Prime Minister, I, then Member of Parliament met him in his room, he very proudly told me that he occupied the same chair which once Nehru did. But today the BJP is even trying to change the name of Nehru from the Nehru Memorial Centre. Some scholars are trying to stop the effort but the matter has been left to the prime minister office (PMO). They should remember that Nehru was one of the stalwarts who sacrificed everything to oust the British. He went to jail many a time but this did not in any way lessen his determination for the country’s independence. Rahul Gandhi, his great grandson, should tear a leaf from his book and put up the fight, not for the perpetuation of the dynasty but for the protection of country’s ethos: democracy and secularism. People of India would again make Congress relevant. The important thing is the heritage: United, Secular and Democratic.

(a) no Act of Parliament in respect of(i) religious or social practices of the Nagas, (ii) Naga customary law and procedure, (iii) administration of civil and criminal justice, involving decision according to Naga Customary law, (iv) ownership and transfer of land and its resources, Shall apply to the State of Nagaland unless the Legislative Assembly by a resolution so decides”; NAGALAND WOULD NOT AGREE TO ANY PAN NAGA HOHO, OR YARIWO OR CHAIRMAN OF THE SOCIALIST COUNCIL OF NAGALIM OR NORTHEASTLIM unless the Legislative Assembly of Nagaland by a resolution so decides. No one in Nagaland need get worried. The Framework Agreement so far made known is only FAIRY TALES. Thepfulhouvi Solo. IFS Retd (RR-68), (ANGAMI_T@ YAHOO.CO.IN)

plantation drive where after the media coverage, the saplings are made to fend for themselves, the consistent nurturing of those trees planted have now grown to healthy trees. The region has a reason to smile over efforts that is now yielding progress in its efforts for conservation. Consecutively, the second phase of Green Pughoboto project was carried out on the 12th May 2017 for all the 24 villages, more than 10,000 saplings were distributed and the minister himself enthusiastically planted several trees in the ongoing construction site of Pughoboto Mini secretariat. The minister strongly envisioned totransform Pughoboto into the most beautiful green area in the state. The project had the positive support of the administration, Churches, students, Youth and women organizations and individuals. The Green Pughoboto project initiated the MLA was also greatly successful also because of the assistance of dedicated officers like Forest Ranger Pughoboto Mr. Kihoto Wotsa and Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Dimapur Mr. Obed Swu who provided the saplings for the two plantation drives. The theme was initiated to communicate a very practical message of the importance of planting trees and promoting healthy environment as everyone’s responsibility. One of the main highlights of the projectis, introducing cash award of Rs.5(five) lakhs to the cleanest village, with Ghathashi village claiming the award in 2015 and Kilomi village in 2016. This has been a big boost to the morale of the villagers in the campaign for protection and conservation of the forests. (To be concluded) Kiviboto Sheqi, Pughoboto Town

Reader’s Post Sir,

Cock should not fight each other

Today everybody talk about peace all over the world. In the land of Nagaland for Christ it is not good to fight for political power especially among the same feather. Till now NPF is the only regional party in Nagaland which has come all through stormy days. The people of Nagaland loved this party so much so that we have elected this party to rule over us for three consecutive terms. At the end of the 3rd term it is very surprising to observe that all our elected legislators are all confused and shuffling like tambola kutis. My humble suggestion is to reconcile each other and work unitedly as FIDE NON ARMIS. Let the DPP workers work hard and who knows all who do not get NPF ticket may get the DPP ticket and if your work hard you may form the next government. Let the cock symbol be with the followers of the old man and PEACOCK be the symbol of the young and energetic DPP leader so that one is cock and the other is also ending with cock. The picture are also similar and I am sure many electorates will cast their valuable vote to PEACOCK thinking that it is cock. Let us all shun away the difference and work unitedly for Naga settlement which is appearing in the horizon. Kuknalim Toshi Ao Kohima

On Wednesday, the High Court will also hear an earlier petition filed by one of the disqualified MLAs P. Vetrivel. He had approached the court apprehending disqualification. On its part, the major opposition party DMK

held a meeting of its MLAs at the party headquarters and decided to take legal and democratic actions to bring down the AIADMK government. The party condemned the “undemocratic” action of the Speaker in disqualifying 18 legislators of AIADMK. The DMK party also demanded the resignation of Speaker Dhanapal and Chief Minister Palaniswami. DMK Working President M.K. Stalin told the media after the meeting that they were confident that the High Court would give “good decisions” on their demand for an immediate floor test in the Assembly. He virtually ruled out resignation of opposition MLAs when a reporter asked him a question in this regard. “Thanks for your wishes. The High Court’s

Addressing a meeting in Tiruchirapalli, sidelined AIADMK leader T.T.V. Dinakaran vowed to send the “corrupt” Palaniswami government home but ruled out aligning with DMK in case elections were held. “We are confident of winning the elections after sending this government home. We will restore the rule of MGR and Jayalalithaa,” he said. “MGR started AIADMK against DMK which is our main enemy. How can we join hands with DMK,” he said referring to media questions whether his faction would align with DMK.

which falls under the unskilled work category,” the DGP (jails) said. Normally, eight hours is maximum a prisoner is allowed to work, he said. He described the highprofile inmate as a “disciplined prisoner” as he dismissed reports that Ram Rahim was being extended any special treatment. “It is (a) baseless and imaginary (report). No prisoner in jail is given any special treatment and that includes Ram Rahim,” he said, adding there is no TV set in his cell. “He is living in jail like any other ordinary inmate and he is living like a disciplined inmate. He is being provided the same food given to other prisoners.”

Asked for his response over reports which quoted some inmates saying that Ram Rahim is uncomfortable and breaks down in jail, the DGP said, “This is baseless”. “He (Ram Rahim) does not have common contact with other prisoners. Access to his barrack is controlled (for security reasons),” he said. Media reports about his health and other activities are also without any basis, said the jail officer. For security considerations, Ram Rahim has been lodged in a barrack with only few prisoners who have a track record of “good conduct”. Besides, jail staff with impeccable record have been put on duty near his barrack. He said prison authorities have taken inputs from various agencies about threat perception to Ram Rahim. “On security grounds, only a few inmates have been kept in Ram Rahim’s barrack. Only the prisoners whom we thought can be put there from security point of view have access to his barrack,” he said.

A special CBI court had sentenced him to 20 years in jail, 10 years each in two rape cases on August 28. and petrol price in the country Excise Duty on Petrol Rs 21.48 per Litre VAT on Basic Price on Petrol 27% on Basic Price Dealer’s commission Rs 3.23 per Litre Excise Duty on Diesel Rs 17.33 per Litre VAT on Basic Price on Diesel 27% on Basic Price Dealer’s commission Rs 2.17 per Litre For example (as on September 19) the customer has to pay Rs 70.52 on a litre of petrol in the national capital. If we take out the excise duty per litre charged by the centre (Rs 21.48), 27 percent VAT charged by the state government (calculated to be Rs 14.96), dealers commission (Rs 3.24), the actual cost of petrol comes to be 30.85 per litre. New Delhi, Sep 19 (PTI): Noting that the economy has been on a downslide since September 2016, SBI Research Tuesday said the slowdown is real and not technical and called for more public spending to arrest the slide. “We certainly believe that we are in a slowdown mode since September 2016 and a slowdown that has been prolonged to Q1 of this fiscal year is technically not short-term in nature or even transient,” SBI Research said in a report. The report said continuing slowdown has “raised the spectre of whether the slowdown is temporary or not” but stopped short of answering the question. The note comes days after BJP president Amit Shah attributed the slowdown -- GDPgrowth slid for the sixth quarter in a row to hit a three-year low at 5.7 per

New Delhi, Sep 19 (Agencies): After Oil Minister Dhar mendra Pradhan recently said that GST Council should consider bringing the petroleum products in the ambit of GST, questions are being asked as to whether the government will accept the idea or not. Market watchers are saying that if government goes ahead with Pradhan’s suggestion and include fuel prices under the ambit of GST, there will be a steep downfall in the prices, according to Zeenews report. However, in a curious turn, taxes and duties seem to exceed the actual cost of production of petrol and diesel in the country. The retail price of a litre of petrol exceeds due to the levy of central and excise duties. Furthermore, by adding company margin and other costs, the price charged to a petrol pump dealer is the total cost of fuel is being fixed. This chart explains the tax structure of diesel

that after the 2008 global credit crisis, there was a surge in spending, but was unequivocal in not paying much heed to the rating agencies. “Let’s not chase the rating upgrade mirage. India has had a solitary net rating upgrade in the last 25 years. The economy is in urgent need of a fiscal push now to shore up growth,” the report said. The government can use a clause in the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act that provides for a 0.5 per cent slip in fiscal deficit targets, it said. Elaborating on how to keep the net borrowings in check, like the way the government has done in the current fiscal at Rs 3.4 trillion, it recommended the government to do more buybacks and switches in G-secs.

Suu Kyi defends Myanmar actions

ISLAMABAD, SEP 19 (PTI): Pakistan’s powerful Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has rejected as “unfounded” the impression that the army was behind the ouster of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and said he was an ardent supporter of democracy. Sharif, 67, stepped down after a Supreme Court bench disqualified him on July 28 from continuing in his office for dishonesty in the Panama Papers case and ruled that corruption cases be filed against him and his children over the scandal. Gen Bajwa was responding to questions by members of defence committees of the National Assembly and Senate who visited General Headquarters (GHQ) on Monday. The parliamentarians had raised many of the oftdiscussed issues including security operations, military courts, defence budget, engagement with the US, tensions with India, problems in relations with Afghanistan, and civil-military relations, Dawn reported.

Supporters and observers say the 72-year-old lacks the authority to rein in the military, which ran the country for 50 years and only recently ceded limited powers to her civilian government. “She is trying to claw back some degree of credibility with the international community, without saying too much that will get her in trouble with the (military) and Burmese people who don’t like the Rohingya in the first place,” said Phil Robertson of Human Rights Watch. Communal violence has torn through Rakhine state since Rohingya mili-

by the state and considered to be illegal immigrants. Suu Kyi’s repatriation pledge “is new and significant”, said Richard Horsey, an independent analyst based in Myanmar, explaining it would in principle allow for the return of those who can prove residence in Myanmar -- rather than citizenship. But in the monsoonsoaked shanties in Bangladesh, there was anguish among refugees over how they would meet any requirements. “We don’t have any papers,” said 55-year-old Abdur Razzak. “If the government is honestly speaking to resolve our crisis then we are ready to go back now,” he added. “Nobody wants to live in such squalid conditions as a refugee.” Suu Kyi insisted army “clearance operations” finished on September 5. But AFP reporters have seen homes on fire in the days since then, while multiple testimonies from refugees arriving in Bangladesh suggests those operations have continued.

M O S C O W, S EP 1 9 (AGENCIES): Russian officials and Orthodox priests on Tuesday unveiled a statue in Moscow of inventor Mikhail Kalashnikov, whose iconic AK-47 assault rifle has claimed countless lives worldwide. A priest sprinkled holy water on the seven-metre tall statue of Kalashnikov gripping his deadly creation, which will now loom over motorists from a traffic island in one of the sprawling capital’s central thoroughfares. Culture minister Vladimir Medinsky praised the inventor and called the rifle — which has been reproduced an estimated 100 million times worldwide — a “cultural brand for Russia.” Kalashnikov had “the best traits of a Russian: an extraordinary natural gift, simplicity, integrity,” Medinsky said. Born in a Siberian village in 1919, Mikhail Kalashnikov died in December 2013 in Izhevsk, the capital of the Russian republic of Udmurtia, where he lived. Kalashnikov came up with the idea of inventing a new automatic rifle that could work in all conditions

In response to a press advertisement that was published in local dailies under the heading ‘NPF Consultative Meet Postponed”, issued by “I Nungsang Jamir, President, NPF Dimapur Division” on 19th Sept. 2017, it is to calrify that the proposed ‘Naga People’s Front (NPF) Consultative Meet 2017’ of Dimapur Division on 20th Sept. 2017 at Dimapur Division Office, Landmark Colony was chalked out at a meeting on 16th Sept. 2017. The said meeting attended by I Nungsang Jamir along with Pusazo Luruo, Vice President, NPF Central & In-charge Dimapur Division, T. Lotha, Secretary, NPF Central & Asst. In-charge Dimapur Division, Chokriveyi Venyo, Secretary, NPF Central & Asst. In-charge Dimapur Division, Hotoshe Sumi, Secretary, NPF Central & Asst. In-charge Dimapur Division and K. Hokaito Zhimomi, Vice President, NPF Dimapur Division including other party workers discussed the need to hold NPF Consultative Meet in Dimapur district and unanimously resolved to hold the said consultative meeting and same, with consent of all present at the meeting was published in local dailies for information to all concerned. It is utterly surprising how could I. Nungsang Jamir who officially attended the meeting as President, NPF Dimapur Division, state that the matter was published without his knowledge and consent when he was personally present at the meeting. In regard to the publication of his photograph, the members present at the meeting bears witness of how he voluntarily handed over his photograph to be used in newspaper publications and banners. It is also to clarify that I. Nungsang Jamir has been expelled from the Party for his involvement in anti-party activities. Therefore, he holds no authority to postpone the proposed consultative meeting on any ground whatsoever. (PUSAZO LURUO) Vice President, NPF Central & Dated : 19/9/2017 In-charge Dimapur Division

Amjad Ali Khan, sons Foo Fighters heading for no. 1 on honoured in Los Angeles Billboard Chart with new song

A

ccording to Billboard Foo Fighters’ new album, “Concrete And Gold”, is likely to move more than 120,000 equivalent album units in first week of release to debut at position No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Foo Fighters previously topped the chart in 2011 with “Wasting Light”.

Seven of the band’s albums have landed in the top 10, including 2014’s “Sonic Highways”, which debuted and peaked at No. 2. Foo Fighters last week released an animated minidocumentary on the making of “Concrete And Gold”, which arrived on September 15. In the short film, frontman Dave Grohl talks about how the band selected the producer it wanted to work with, Greg Kurstin, and how it landed a guest appearance from Justin Timberlake, among others. Grohl recalls meeting Kurstin at a restaurant after hearing a song by his band The Bird and the

Bee on the radio in his car. As the two become friends, Grohl decides he wants Kurstin to record the next Foo Fighters album. Kurstin has previously produced artists like Adele and Pink. Grohl also recounts how he floated the idea of working with Kurstin to the rest of the band, who were puzzled because Kurstin had never worked on a heavy rock record. In addition to Timberlake, the disc features guest appearances from Paul McCartney, The Bird and The Bee’s Inara George, The Kills’ Alison Mosshart and Boyz II Men singer Shawn Stockman.

enowned sarod player Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, who play the instrument too, were felicitated at the coveted Global Music Awards under the Gold Medal category. They were honoured last week for their outstanding contribution to the global music industry and excellence in the classical music sphere. The honour was bestowed on the three in correlation with their album “Peace Worshipers”, which was released in July, by Affetto Records and distributed by Naxos. The award was presented by Mark Sutherland

(Editor, Music Week UK) and Sat Bisla (President and Founder, A&R Worldwide) in the presence of other music industry executives. Interestingly, they are the only Indian classical artistes to win an honour at this platform, which brings global music partners and industry forerunners together to discuss and exchange ideas, trends and a range of other topics. “Every award is an acknowledgment of an artiste’s musical journey. Though the journey is new everyday. Very honoured,” Amjad Ali Khan said in a statement. Amaan said it’s a great honour for “our genre of music”.

Spicer made a surprise appearance following host Stephen Colbert’s politically-charged monologue at the awards show on September 17. After the photograph featuring Corden and Spicer emerged, Twitter critics accused the former of “normalising facism”, reported people.com. Corden addressed the criticism on Monday’s episode of “The Late Late Show” with humour. “The big winners last night were Donald Glover, Hulu and former White House press secretary Sean Spicer,” Corden said in his opening monologue. “Spicer won best actor in a comedy for his role in Donald Trump’s administration.” He continued: “I’m kidding, of course. But Sean Spicer actually did make a cameo at last night’s ceremony. New Delhi, Sep 19 (IANS): India U-17 football team coach Luis Norton de Matos on Tuesday said that he wants to show the world his side can play football during the World Cup which is scheduled to start from October 6. “All games are winnable in football, there is no game which can’t be won. Even if there is a five percent chance of winning we will fight for it, We want to show that the Indian team is as organised as the rest of the world and if we can show the world that we too can play football, it would be even better,” Matos told AIFF. The hosts are currently training for the U-17 World Cup in Goa. The colts earlier took part in a Four-Nation Tournament in Mexico after being part of exposure trips in Europe, facing national teams and club teams

such as Benfica, Serbia and Macedonia amongst others. “The level of the Indian U-17s is very high but come the FIFA U-17 World Cup it will be a different ball game altogether. However, if we can prove that the Indian team can play on the same page as the opposition in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, there is a victory in that,” the Portuguese said. “Every game you play either you win or it is a learning experience. Against Chile and Macedonia, we registered good results but

the FIFA U-17 World Cup will be a competition and competitions are different from friendly games,” Matos added. The 63-year-old who played five matches for Portugal also said the World Cup experience will be unique in Indian football history and he is delighted to be a part of it. “It is amazing to be a part of a unique moment in Indian football’s history. I am very happy to be a part of it. If the players continue to play with hard work and dedication and chart goals for them, they can go on to be some of the best in the coming years,” he said. “The players are already heroes because they will be playing in India’s first ever participation in a FIFA World Cup. This generation can inspire many coming generations to take up football in India,” Matos added.

Eden Hazard rules out Paris Saint-Germain move

Eden Hazard

L o nd o n , S e p 1 9 (Agencies): Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard has ruled out a move to French giants Paris SaintGermain. The Belgium international is under contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2020 but has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Parc des Princes club, and with European cham-

pions Real Madrid. But the 26-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Lille in a £32m deal in June 2012, says he would only return to French football to play for his former club. “There are some big clubs, and it was an attractive league even when I played in it six years ago,” Hazard told French media company SFR Sport.

Kolkata, Sep 19 (PTI): Steve Smith is in the middle of a challenging phase as captain and he must define the way for the Australian team’s comeback in the ongoing ODI series against India, feels his former skipper Michael Clarke. “Smith’s batting has been outstanding for a long time but his captaincy is challenged now. He needs to define the way for his team to have success,” Clarke said. Having drawn the two-Test series in Bangladesh, Smith’s captaincy is likely to be tested to the limit with Australia trailing 0-1 in the five-ODI series against India.

Australia had the series opener in Chennai firmly in control with India reeling at 87 for five before MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya turned it around with a century partnership en route to a 26-run win via D/L method. “It’s high time that Australia make a comeback. I think this is the match that will decide the course of the series,” he said of the Eden second onedayer on September 21. Clarke was here to present Don Bradman’s bat, that the legend used in India’s first tour of Australia in 1948, to the Fanattic Sports Museum. Talking about the In-

did well in the Test series.” Dhoni is back in his prime and Clarke in a lighter vein said, “Don’t ask me whether he will play in the 2019 World Cup. He will play in 2023.” Clarke further said David Warner will be back amongst the run after missing out in Chennai. “He got centuries in Bangladesh... It is hard to overlook him by seeing his performance in one game. He will find ways to score, he always does. He will have lot of impact in the series. He and Smith will be the leading scorers for Australia in the series. Hopefully, they start scoring from Kolkata.”

That’s good.” “We work a lot. It’s not always easy in training, there are a lot of hours of training, but it bears fruit on the pitch. We play well, we won [the Premier League] last year. However, Khwetelhi Thopi (10) broke the deadlock in the 31st minute to end the first half with score line of 1-0 in favour of Naga FC. Amarjit elected India captain for U-17 WC

PANAJI, Sep 19 (Agencies): Midfielder Amarjit Singh has been unanimously elected as the captain of Indian team for the upcoming FIFA Under-17 World Cup to be held across the country. Coach Luis Norton de Matos had suggested four names and had asked each of the 27 players in the team to write on a sheet of paper their choice for captaincy. The first name would get five points, the next three and the final choice one. The players unanimously voted for Amarjit as their captain for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup which begins in New Delhi on October 6. Jitendra Singh, who was second, will be Amarjit’s deputy. While, Suresh Singh, who led India at the AFC Under-16 Championship last year, received the third highest votes. Defender Sanjeev Stalin finished fourth, an AIFF official said. Born and brought up in Manipur, Amarjit was introduced to the game by his uncle and he soon found himself at the Chandigarh Football Academy (CFA). When the selectors were hunting for players to represent India at the Under-17 World Cup, Amarjit was invited for trials and he caught the eye of everyone.

Espanyol edge Celta Vigo for 1st win of La Liga season

Gerard Moreno put Espanyol ahead with a low shot from just inside the area during a their La Liga match against Celta Vigo.

Barcelona, Sep 19 (IANS): RCD Espanyol defeated Celta Vigo 2-1 here for their first victory of the 2017-2018 La Liga football season. The hosts got off to a strong start on Monday and threatened the Celta net twice before taking a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute through a goal by Gerard Moreno, reports Efe. Celta were stymied by the Espanyol defence and their only opportunity in the first half was an ineffectual Iago Aspas header

in the 18th minute. Maxi Gomez, Celta’s top scorer with four goals, was practically invisible throughout the contest at Cornella-El Prat stadium. Espanyol increased their lead to 2-0 in the 23nd minute, when Pablo Piatti stole the ball from Gustavo Cabral and worked a combination with Jose Manuel Jurado before beating Celta goalkeeper Sergio. The pace slowed in the second half, with Espanyol seemingly content to sit on their lead as the visitors con-

tinued to struggle on the attack. Celta improved as the minutes passed and Aspas nearly clawed back a goal on a corner kick not long before Pione Sisto found the back of the Espanyol net in the 69th minute to cut the hosts’ lead in half. The visitors went into high gear in pursuit of the equalizer, but Espanyol hung on to take all three points and vault out of the drop zone into 16th place, with four points from four matches, one more than Celta.

Women work just as hard, sacrifice India women beat Belgium junior men’s team 4-3 as much as men, says Andy Murray Lo n d o n, S e p 1 9 (Agencies): Britain’s world number three Andy Murray has stressed the importance of gender equality in tennis, saying the work ethic required to succeed is the same for both men and women. Murray, who is seen as the voice of women’s equality within the game for his previous views on various issues, was coached by Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo for two years from 2014. The Scot, who won seven titles and reached two Australian Open finals with Mauresmo, said he had a better understanding of the struggles women face in the game because of the partnership. “People often underes-

Andy Murray

timate the amount of work that it takes to become a top tennis player,” Murray said in comments published by BBC Magazine. “And that work ethic is the same whether you are a man or a woman. “There are hours spent in the gym, on court, in physio, travelling, analysing matches and opponents, talking with your team,

managing your body, and of course, making plenty of sacrifices,” added the threetime grand slam champion. “A n yo n e w h o h a s spent any time with any of the top women will know they make those same sacrifices and are as determined and committed to winning as any of the top men on the tour.” Murray said he worked with Mauresmo because she was the right person to coach him and not because of her gender but discovered she wasn’t treated the same as men in similar jobs. “Since then, I have been asked about women’s equality and I would find it hard to look any of the top female tennis players in the eye if I did not speak my mind,” he said.

ANTWERP, Sep 19 (PTI): The Indian women’s hockey team ended their Europe Tour on a high after getting the better of the Belgium junior men’s team 4-3 in a thrilling encounter. For India, Gurjit Kaur (7th and 11th minutes) and captain Rani (13th and 33rd minutes) scored twice to give the visitors their first win of the tour. A rampant Indian team started the match with some enthralling attacking play as they earned a penalty corner in the 7th minute, which was well converted by dragflicker Gurjit to give India the lead. The defender extended India’s lead in the 11th minute as she converted another penalty corner to make it 2-0. Skipper Rani also got onto the score sheet as she netted the ball via a well

taken field goal in the 13th minute to further extend the lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter began with goalkeeper Rajani Etimarpu making her second diving save of the match to deny the Belgians from opening their account. India displayed grit and fight throughout the second quarter as they held onto their 3-0 lead at the end of 30 minutes. India started the third

quarter with some high intensity play, which paid off for them in the 33rd minute as Rani scored her second goal of the match to make it 4-0. However, Belgium finally managed to get past India’s sturdy defence when Thibault Neven converted a PC in the 38th minute to make it 1-4. The hosts produced a great field goal in the 42nd minute via William Van Dessel to end the 3rd quarter

with India still leading 4-2. The Belgium carried on the momentum in the fourth quarter as well with Mathias Relik converting a PC to give them their third goal in the 48th minute and reduce the margin to 3-4. It was a nervy last 10 minutes for the visitors as Belgium piled on some pressure to find the equaliser. But the Indian team held onto their nerves and defended as a unit to have the last laugh.

Cibulkova marches ahead in Tokyo

Dominika Cibulkova celebrates after beating Carla Suarez Navarro on Tuesday.

TOKYO, Sep 19 (Agencies): Fifth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova is targeting a strong finish to the season after dispatching Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3, 6-3 to book a second-round spot in the Pan Pacific Open on Tuesday. Cibulkova has momentum after posting her best result of the season in August when reaching the final of the Connecticut Open. She carried that to Tokyo, racing 5-1 ahead. Suarez Navarro broke in a seventh game that contained four deuces, and briefly threatened to fight her way back. Last year’s WTA Finals champion, Cibulkova broke in the third game of the second set, and again to

love in the final game. It has rarely gone so well for Cibulkova this year. The weight of expectation following last year’s four titles proved too much. “Since the trip to the U.S., even though I lost in the third round in Cincinnati to Jo Konta, I started to feel I was coming back,” she said. “Then in New Haven, even though I lost the final, I was really close to winning. Right now, I feel the best on court that I have all year.” “I was putting a lot of pressure on myself, that I have to repeat the same great year. Now I’ve lost this pressure. I want to enjoy the fact I’ve found my form and I feel fresh for this tournament and the others in Asia. I want to take this chance.”

Cibulkova next plays Katerina Siniakova. The Czech defeated qualifier Jana Cepelova 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Polish qualifier Magda Linette surprised Daria Gavrilova, 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 (3). Second-seeded Karolina Pliskova lies in wait on Wednesday. Caroline Garcia, seeded following the withdrawal of virus-hit Agnieszka Radwanska, beat lucky loser Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4 6-3. Garcia next meets home-crowd favorite Kurumi Nara, handed a wildcard entry. Shelby Rogers of the U.S. will face defending champion Caroline Wozniacki, after defeating wild card Risa Ozaki 6-2, 7-6 (5).
