The stressed asset fund will benefit around 3.5 lakh homebuyers, Sitharaman said, adding that buyers stuck in bankruptcy-bound projects will get relief through the NCLT. For exporters, a new scheme for reimbursement of taxes paid on exports, called the Remission of Duties or Taxes on Export Product (RoDTEP), will come into effect from January 2020 to replace existing dispensations. The new RoDTEP “will more than adequately incentivise exporters than existing schemes put together,” she said, adding the revenue government
gress spokesperson Anand Sharma said at a press conference. After the earlier announcements of stimulus package, the situation deteriorated and the latest steps are not going to help, Sharma asserted. “The finance minister of India is lacking in macroeconomic understanding. A comprehensive package for economic revival was expected,” he said. “The steps announced today will not revive the Indian economy, they are purely cosmetic, piecemeal and also convey the arrogance of the government and its indifference to the seriousness of the situation,” he said.

Steps to boost economy ‘cosmetic’: Cong The Congress on Saturday alleged that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was “clueless” in dealing with the economic slowdown and termed the latest steps announced by her to boost the economy as “cosmetic” and “piecemeal”. The Congress’ attack came after Sitharaman announced an over Rs 70,000crore package for exports and real estate sectors, including setting up of a stressed asset fund, as the government continued with firefighting measures to pull the economy out of a sixyear low growth rate. “I can only say that the finance minister is clueless as to how to deal with the gravity of the crisis,” Con-
ACAUT asks govt to put an end to illegal taxes
D imapur , S ep 1 4 (NPN): ACAUT Nagaland has drawn the attention of the state government to the persistent problem of “illegal and unabated taxations” imposed on all and sundry especially on business and trade in Dimapur. Highlighting the issue in a statement, ACAUT convenor Tia Longchar and secretary Hetoi Chishi pointed out to the burden on shopping malls in Dimapur. ACAUT said there are presently 17 shopping malls which are providing jobs to over 600 youths, mostly from Dimapur. ACAUT said each youth employed in the malls receives not less than Rs.8000 to Rs.30,000 per month. While the state government has been able to collect tax revenues after GST, the malls having to pay through a pan India tax system are facing huge losses due to illegal and unabated taxations. ACAUT revealed that every goods-laden truck entering Dimapur has to pay anywhere from Rs.15,000 but the amount depended on the number of wheels in the trucks. Each day, some 13 to 15 trucks arrive Dimapur carrying goods and have to
pay “multiple extra taxes.” ACAUT said such heavy taxation has made the malls unable to cover their recurring expenditures and made it extremely difficult to reach the break-even point in their yearly audits. It further pointed out that while jobs in the government are already saturated, the only hope for thousands of youths who seek employment was in the private sector. ACAUT said the problems faced by the malls serves as a parameter on investments in the private sector especially since the malls were to supposed to charge as per standard online MRP which cannot be manipulated unlike organised shops which can inflate prices to sell beyond MRP. ACAUT said that on any given day, especially at New Field Check Gate, trucks have to pay taxes to various Naga political groups who claim it “ as their right to tax.” ACAUT said the issue had been raised by several Civil Society Organisations for which there used to be period raids by police but this has not stopped the menace.
