BJP forges alliance with JJP in Haryana confident of lone Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLA Abhay Chautala’s support to its government.
Dushyant Chautala likely to be deputy CM NEW DELHI, OCT 25 (PTI): BJP is all set to form a new government in Haryana after clinching an alliance with the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which won 10 seats in the 90-member assembly, by giving it the post of deputy chief minister. BJP president Amit Shah announced at a press conference, held with JJP leader Dushyant Chautala, that the chief minister will be from his party and the deputy chief minister from JJP. Incumbent chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar is likely to be elected BJP legislative party leader at a meeting in Chandigarh on Saturday and will then stake claim before the governor to form the government. Chautala is likely to be his deputy, sources said. “Going by the mandate of the voters of Haryana, leaders of both parties have decided that BJP and JJP will form the govern-
Reminder to Churches DIMAPUR, OCT 25 (NPN): In view of the appeal made by Nagaland Join Christian Forum (NJCF) to all churches and believers to observe prayer and fasting on October 27 and November 2 for the prevailing situation, NCRC general secretary Rev. Vangpong Phom has reminded all Churches and believers, particularly NCRC churches to earnestly heed to the appeal.
KU corrigendum
DIMAPUR, OCT 25 (NPN): Apropos the news item “Konyak territory cannot be used as a safe haven: KU” published on October 22, Konyak Union (KU) said the last para should be read as “...Free Movement Regime (FMR) along IndoMyanmar border which exists should be extended/expanded beyond the existing areas/belt so as to facilitate proper health issues and for social and cultural bonding with our Konyak brethren living beyond the border” and not as published, KU general secretary Wango Konyak stated.

Sena plays hardball in Maharashtra
Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Manohar Lal Khattar, Anurag Thakur and Dushyant Chautala on Friday. (PTI) ment together. The chief minister will be from the BJP and deputy chief minister will be from the JJP,” Shah told reporters. The alliance is in line with the “spirit” of people’s mandate, he added. Chautala said his party believed the alliance was necessary for stability in Haryana. Khattar said both the parties had worked together in the past. Sources said Shah had spoken to Chautala even before the results were out, following inputs that the BJP might not get a majority on its own. Top BJP leaders moved swiftly since Thursday night to cobble together a major-
ity in Haryana after the party’s tally fell to 40 in the state, six short of the majority mark. Most of the seven independent MLAs have also pledged their support to the party. Majority of independent MLAs are BJP rebels and several of them have given their letters of support to Khattar during a meeting at the residence of party’s working president, JP Nadda, in New Delhi. BJP faced flak after controversial MLA Gopal Kanda, an accused in two abetment-to-suicide cases, announced his support to its bid to form the government in Haryana. BJP leaders are also
A trickier balancing act awaits the BJP in Maharashtra where its ally Shiv Sena is playing hardball by demanding an equal share in the new dispensation. Sources said BJP president Amit Shah may hold parleys with Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to hammer out a deal before the saffron alliance stakes claim to form the government in Maharashtra. BJP parliamentary board had on Thursday authorised Shah to take all decisions on the formation of new governments in Maharashtra and Haryana. Talks with Sena at the top level may happen after Diwali, sources said. Though the saffron alliance has won a comfortable majority by winning 161 seats in the 288-member Maharashtra assembly, the BJP’s dependence on its partner is much more now as it won only 105 seats against the 122 it has in the outgoing assembly. Sena’s tally also fell to
56 from 63 but its clout has increased due to the more crucial role it will have in the stability of future NDA government. Thackeray on Thursday had reminded BJP about the formula arrived at during his meeting with Shah ahead of Lok Sabha polls, and said they had decided on a fifty-fifty formula for the alliance in the state. Keeping up the heat on its senior partner, Sena in its mouthpiece said there was no “maha janadesh” as BJP had claimed before the results were announced and that the outcome was in fact a rap on the knuckles for those high on “arrogance of power”. Sena MP Sanjay Raut posted a cartoon that shows a tiger (his party’s symbol) wearing a clock locket (NCP’s party symbol) sniffing a lotus (BJP’s party symbol). Though he indicated that the cartoon was posted in jest, the message was not lost on anyone as Congress leader and former chief minister Ashok Chavan had said earlier that his party should explore all options to keep the BJP out of power.
ABCC appeal to stakeholders: Shun violence whatever the outcome
DIMAPUR, OCT 25 (NPN): Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) has appealed to all negotiating parties “to refrain from any more bloodshed whatever the outcome of the talks” against the backdrop of the “fragile situation” arising as talks between the government of India and NSCN(I-M) and seven NNPGs was moving to a closure. ABCC executive secretary Atsi Dolie said though the church was not a negotiating party, nor making any suggestion, yet there had been “so much blood” shed in the past including its associated hurts and wounds which would certainly outlast any final agreement. ABCC reminded that “violence begets violence” and so history’s verdict “must not be that the Naga struggle destroyed the people for whom it was launched.” It also reiterated that “life belongs to God and no one has the authority to take away someone’s life”. ABCC cited the Old Testament where those who committed
“premeditated or deliberate murder” could not flee to, even to the altar of God as “murder is a direct challenge to God’s sole authority over life.” ABCC further reminded that , there was no remedial measure to atone for the violation of the image of God in a murdered person. It reaffirmed that life was precious and serious for God, therefore no one should “dare treading God’s territory”. ABCC reaffirmed that the church stood by the Bible and will not tolerate the taking away of someone’s life even if that was to be a humanly justifiable one. ABCC also said today “society is angry with almost everything” and even a call to prayer and fasting was “possibly resented.” It said this was probably because some people found it difficult to “pray for the welfare of those who mercilessly killed loved ones and made our land unlivable”. ABCC said society today was plagued with “dishonesty, betrayal, trust deficit and greed” which have taken a huge toll of Naga society.
Therefore, a good outcome cannot be expected while all inputs in the process were “dirty and evil” said ABCC. It said as “consequences and ideas expressed in actions are interrelated” implying that “what we sow, we reap.” ABCC said while some were busy trying to arrive at inking a deal, there could possibly be others who were waiting for some opportune time to “unleash” their long suppressed anger. It cautioned that if people allowed themselves to be dictated by their human desire and revengeful spirit, then they could be at the threshold of the worst moment of their history. All was not lost said ABCC if only people learn to be patient, forgiving and loving one another even if that was difficult, so that it can testify to others that “our faith in Jesus Christ is real and relevant.” ABCC urged people to pray not to do evil in order to enable Nagas to build a new future together where all future generations will then rise and call them blessed.
Senior NSCN (I-M) leader, 16 others join GPRN/NSCN Staff Reporter
DIMAPUR, OCT 25 (NPN): Hardly 24 hours after the crucial meeting between the Government of India and the NSCN (I-M) on October 24 remained inconclusive, former NSCN (I-M) kilo kilonser Hukavi Yeputhomi joined GPRN/ NSCN along with 16 other colleagues, Friday in New Delhi. GPRN/NSCN is led by MB Neokpao Konyak as president, while N. Kitovi Zhimomi, ato kilonser, is also the convenor of Working Committee (WC) of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs). Hukavi was received into GPRN/NSCN by Neokpao Konyak and Kitovi Zhimomi and welcomed into WC of NNPGs by convenor and co-convenors of WC in New Delhi. When contacted, NSCN (I-M) senior leader confirmed to Nagaland Post that Hukavi has defected to “one of the groups”. When asked whether Hukavi was part of the NSCN (I-M) delegation in the Naga Peace Process, the senior leader clarified that
(L-R) MB Neokpao Konyak, Hukavi and Kitovi Zhimomi.
Hukavi was not a permanent member of NSCN (I-M) Talk Team. The NSCN (I-M) leader said Hukavi might have attended a few meetings in Delhi occasionally as part of delegation with most NSCN (I-M) members including women. However, other sources informed Nagaland Post that Hukavi was part of the 15-member NSCN (I-M) delegation, that held the crucial October 24 meeting with Government of India in New Delhi. However, both NSCN (I-M) and other reliable sources denied that Hukavi was part of the 15member delegation.
Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks, RN Ravi, and the NSCN (I-M) delegation led by its chief negotiator, Th. Muivah, met on October 24, but could not resolve the issue of separate Naga flag and constitution as demanded by NSCN (I-M). With just couple of days before the expiry of the three-month deadline, speculation is rife on whether the Government of India and NSCN (I-M) would be able to settle the Naga flag and constitution demand in the next meeting, tentatively, scheduled to be held on October 28 or October 29. NSF phase-I stir Post solution is about hope: Cong from October 30 DIMAPUR, OCT 25 (NPN): Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has announced launching the first phase of “democratic agitation” starting October 30, 2019 to protest against the state government’s failure to comply with its demand of setting up Staff Selection Board (SSB) in Nagaland. In a directive, NSF president, Ninoto Awomi, stated that during the phase-I agitation, all the school, college and university going students would wear symbolic black bands/badges along with the uniform of their respective institutions. He stated that the first phase stir would continue until further directive from NSF. It has, therefore, directed all the federating units and sub-ordinate bodies to take up all necessary actions to ensure that the protest was carried out successfully in their respective jurisdiction. The federating units and subordinate bodies have also been directed to forward a compliance report accompanied by pictorial/video proof to the office of NSF within November 3, 2019. Meanwhile, NSF has appealed to all the stakeholders to lend their support and cooperation in its fight towards a just future.
DIMAPUR, OCT 25 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K Therie said post solution he looked forward to peace, a strong and determined administration, corruption-free governance, justice, equality, merit and a progressive life, saying post solution was about hope for change. Therie observed that many social media posts/ comments on the prospective political solution had created a post solution scenario filled with devils and dark-red gloom. He said the degree of fear and uneasiness among the innocent citizens was high, which was actually not required at all. He reasoned that security forces were for the safety and security of peaceful citizens and they were not a threat to peaceful people. In the given situation, he said no group had really gone out of solution. Negotiating teams were all for the people and surely the desire and
aspirations of the people for peace and progressive life were their primary objective too, he hoped Nonetheless, Therie stressed it was the duty of the elected government to guarantee safety and security to the people. However, he observed that chief minister Neiphiu Rio had chosen not to comment. Despite representing the people of Nagaland, he alleged that the state government had completely failed to outline the true aspirations of the people to Government of India and negotiating teams. Instead of taking responsibilities, he accused it of having already abdicated its power to goons and unlawful activities. “They are unable to guarantee safety and security to life and property of the people. They have also brought the state into bankruptcy...,” he said. While appreciating views of realistic and honest writers, he also called for not misleading innocent citizens.
