Public rally in Dmu on Oct 31 DIMAPUR, OCT 22 (NPN): Public Action Committee (PAC) of the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) Monday informed that a public rally would be organised in Dimapur on October 31 against multiple taxation, lease syndicate system and illegal collections by different organizations and government departments. In a press release, PAC convenor, Yekhosayi Nyekha and co-convenor, K Ghokheto Chophy, stated that the decision to hold rally was taken at a meeting with 19 tribal bodies, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, DUCCF, GBs Union, BAN, Dimapur Baptist Women Union, educational institutions, non- Naga organizations of Dimapur, various student bodies at Unity Hall, NCD on October 22, 2018.

According to NE Live report, a two-member delegation of the Naga Mothers Association will leave for Delhi to negotiate peace on behalf of NSCN (K) leader Khango Konyak.

NEW DELHI, OCT 22 (AGENCIES/PTI): Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in an unprecedented development, conducted raids inside its own headquarters and arrested Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Devinder Kumar.

The officer was arrested in connection with a bribery case against CBI’s special director and the No. 2 in the organisation, Rakesh Asthana, on Monday.

Amid the infighting between CBI Director Alok Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has summoned both to “get details of the current happenings” in the premier investigative agency of the country. “PM wants to know the full facts of what is happening,” a PMO official said.

Asthana is named as the prime accused in an FIR that was filed on October 15. He is alleged to have received kickbacks, amounting to Rs 2 crore, from Moin Qureshi, a meat exporter, to settle a money-laundering case against him.

The allegations against Asthana come on the heels of massive infighting within the premier investigation agency. The agency came

out in defence of its chief Alok Verma after Asthana alleged that he was falsely accused in the case and that it was the CBI director who accepted the kickbacks. He had written a letter to the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) entailing this, on October 19. Devinder Kumar has been arrested on charges of fabricating the statement of Satish Sana, the complainant in the case. As many as eight mobile phones, a laptop and few documents were seized in searches that were carried out at Kumar’s office and home.

Serious credibility crisis in CBI: Cong

Congress said there is a serious credibility crisis in the CBI with its top officers accusing each other of massive corruption and blamed “vested interests” within the government for bringing the agency to “such a pass”.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi alleged the CBI was being used as a “weapon of political vendetta” under Modi government and that the investigation agency was on a terminal decline and “at war with itself ”. Taking to Twitter, he cited a media report where the CBI secondin-command Rakesh Asthana has been named as an accused in a bribery case.

On October 17, the officer visited the home of two martyrs namely late HC Khuniho Sema and late L/NK T Khehoto Sema who attained martyrdom on September 1, 1989 in defending CI Post Laniye Bridge.

DIMAPUR: Global iodine deficiency disease prevention (IDDP) day was observed on October 22 at Dimapur and Mokokchung to create awareness of the need to prevent iodine deficiency.

In Dimapur, the day was observed at CMO’s office Dimapur, where CMO Dimapur, K. Vikato Kinimi urged the salt stockists and traders to “sell only iodised

salt so that the public may use only iodised salt”.

He also informed the salt stockist and traders in Dimapur that the health department would be carrying out inspection and testing of iodised salt on a regular basis, where defaulters would be fined as per the provision provided under PFA Act 1954.

Bomb found in Manipur’s border town Moreh

IMPHAL, Oct 22: A rocket propelled grenade (RPG) was found under a tractor along ImphalMoreh section of NH102 near Moreh town on Monday.

The recovery of the bomb led to the disruption of normal commercial activities between the two neighbouring countries.

A police source said that the RPG was found beneath the trailer of the tractor being park on a bridge along NH-102 near Morning Market of border Moreh town around 5.30 am.

As precautionary measure, Moreh police stopped all kinds of traffic from the morning till around 2 pm until the RPG was safely defused by bomb experts of the Manipur police bomb detection and disposal squad.

The bomb was safely defused at around 2.45 pm at Holenphai area, 3 km from the site where it was found.

Police suspect the RPG was planted by militants actively operating in the border town.

Meanwhile, Workers and Traders Association Moreh (WATAM), to whom the tractor belonged,

alleged that it was cadres of a militant group behind the planting of the bomb.

They related the planting of bomb with an earlier incident where members of WATAM were threatened by the militants.

Earlier on Sunday evening, around 7.30 pm, around six militants vandalized the vehicle at the same place, women who were engaged by WATAM in the collection of garbage, alleged.

The miscreants also reportedly assaulted some women workers as well as womenfolk of the area who tried to intervene while vandalizing the vehicle.

Soon after the incident, they lodged a complaint with the Moreh police and today morning the bomb was found, the women workers alleged.

Decrying the planting of the bomb, members of Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup and Workers and Traders Association Moreh staged a sit-in-protest at Moreh Women Market.

Slogans such as “We are not your enemy”, “Don’t terrorize civilians with bomb”, “Let’s keep peace in Moreh”, etc were displayed at the protest site, said report.

Congress loses yet another MLA ahead of Mizoram assembly poll

Aizawl, Oct 22 (PTI): Congress MLA Hmingdailova Khiangte resigned from the membership of the Mizoram house on Monday becoming the fourth legislator of the ruling party to do so ahead of the November 28 state assembly poll.

With the resignation, the Congress’ strength in the 40-member house has come down to 30, while that of opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) stands at 6.

Four seats are vacant.

Mizoram is the only state in the north east under the Congress.

Khiangte submitted his resignation to Speaker Hiphei at his official residence, Assembly secretariat sources said.

When contacted Khiangte said that he would announce the reason behind his decision as well as the future course of action on Tuesday.

Jorhat, Oct 22 (PTI): Three persons were injured when wild elephants attacked them at Neamatighat in upper Assam’s Jorhat district, Forest department officials said Monday. Three wild elephants had entered the area in search of food and attacked three persons, damaged seven huts and five shops on Sunday night, said Forest department official Tonkeswar Gayan here.

A Forest department team reached the area and blank fired to scare away the three pachyderms toward Kartik Chapori, Gayan said.

Imphal, Oct 22 (PTI): High import duties coupled with an increasing gap in gold prices between India and Myanmar have led to an upsurge in smuggling of the yellow metal across the international border, a report compiled by anti-smuggling unit of Imphal customs division has said.

Amritsar tragedy: NHRC notice to Railways Delhi’s air quality improves to ‘poor’

Amritsar/Muzaffarpur, Oct 22 (PTI): Amid a blame-game over the Amritsar tragedy, a case was filed in a Bihar court on Monday holding organisers of the Dussehra event and chief guest Navjod Kaur Sidhu responsible for mowing down of several revellers by a passing train, while the NHRC served notices to the Railways and the Punjab government.

Congress MP Sunil Jakhar and Punjab minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, however, came forward in defence of Sidhu and sought to put the blame on the Railways officials for the tragic incident in which nearly 60 persons, including for migrants from Bihar, had died while watching the Dussehra celebrations from across the tracks on Friday evening.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who has gone to Israel, reviewed the situation through videoconference with the state government officials and asked them to expedite the process of providing relief and compensation to the families of those dead and to the injured.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notices to the Railways and the Punjab government, observing that it cannot be called a “sane act” for

people to sit on railway tracks, but the “negligence on the part of the district authorities is apparent” as well in this “bizarre and horrific incident”.

While it is rare for such a large number of revellers getting mowed down by a train in a single incident, nearly 50,000 people have lost their lives between 2015 and 2017 on railway tracks after being hit by trains, according to official data from the Indian Railways.

Detailed reports have been sought from the state’s chief secretary and from the

chairman of the Railway Board in four weeks, an NHRC spokesperson said.

“It seems that the local authorities and the organizers did not properly manage the crowd, gathered to watch the Dussehra celebrations. It was the responsibility of the State to provide proper safety and protection to the citizens during the event,” the NHRC said while taking suo motu cognisance of media reports about the incident.

The railway authorities have stated that they cannot be blamed, as they were not informed about the event, while Punjab government has ordered a magisterial probe.

In distant Muzaffarpur, Bihar, a complaint case was filed in a court against Navjot Kaur Sidhu, seeking registration of a case against her.

The complaint claimed that Sidhu and organisers of the Dussehra event were solely responsible for the tragedy and the court should order a trial against her.

The case was filed by a social activist in a Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court, which fixed November 3 as the date of hearing.

Code of conduct for people 3 fresh Zika cases in Rajasthan, total 126 in public life necessary: Naidu New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI): A code of conduct for people in public life is very much necessary, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said Monday, as he hailed former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri for his “integrity and moral uprightness”.

Naidu, while addressing a gathering at the presentation ceremony of the 19th Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration to eminent jurist Fali S Nariman, also said there was a need to revisit the education system and highlight the contributions of “great” leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Shastri.

Urging people to follow the example of Shastri, he said, “Even after 52 years of his demise, we still remember him for his values, commitment, courage, and also dedication.”

What made Shastri a unique politician was the fact that he did not have two sets of principles -- one for public consumption and the other for personal life, Naidu said.

“You will be surprised to know that he got a code of conduct (published) for those who are in public life. I feel it is very much necessar y even today.

More necessary and more relevant to have a code of conduct for the people in public life...which is lack-

ing,” Naidu said.

“Lal Bahadur Shastri was an exemplary leader, his humility, courage, determination, integrity and moral uprightness were legendary,” the vice president said, lauding the former prime minister.

Jaipur/ New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI): Three more persons tested positive for Zika virus in Jaipur Monday, taking the total number of such cases to 126, a government official said.

Out of the 126 patients, 41 of them pregnant women, around 111 have recovered after treatment, he said. According to the latest report, out of the total 1,32,872 houses searched, 84,580 were found positive for mosquito breeding. The Rajasthan health department formed a five-member committee

The committee will submit the report to the public health director from time to time, an order said. Fogging and anti-larvae activities were carried out Monday in colonies of ward 23 and 82 in the morning whereas similar activities were done in the evening in ward 79. The department has appealed people to keep the doors of their residence, shops open and asked those with breathing difficulties to

remain at bay during fogging activity. Most of the cases which have been reported are from Shastri Nagar area in Jaipur where fogging and other anti-larvae activities are being carried out to prevent the spread of the virus.

New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI): Delhi’s air quality improved to ‘poor’ on Monday, even as authorities said it might deteriorate in the coming days with possibilities of ‘severe’ pollution.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi at 272 in the evening.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.

However, Centre-run System of Air Quality Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) reported an AQI in the ‘very poor’ category.

On Sunday, the AQI had oscillated between “poor” and “very poor” categories.

Faridabad and Gurgaon recorded ‘poor’ air quality; Noida and Greater Noida too reported ‘poor’ air quality while Ghaziabad reported ‘very poor’ category. On Saturday, a haze had engulfed the national capital and the worst air quality of this season was recorded at 324.

An official said the air quality of Delhi might deteriorate to ‘severe’ category in the coming days as the air becomes heavier and results in the formation of smog.

The Supreme Courtappointed Environment Protection Control Authority (EPCA) Friday had held a meeting with officials of Punjab, Haryana and the Delhi governments to discuss the pollution situation in the national capital.

An EPCA member Friday said stock of the situation was taken and it was decided that special attention would be given to vulnerable hotspots where ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’ air quality was observed.

The PM2.5 (presence of particles in the air with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres) was recorded at 134. The PM2.5, also called fine particulates, can be a matter of more serious health concern than PM10.

The PM10 level (presence of particles in the air with a diameter of less than 10 micrometres) in Delhi stood at 280, according to the CPCB data.

A CPCB official said

a number of factors were responsible for the deteriorating air quality, including vehicular pollution, construction activities and meteorological factors like direction of wind, which is now flowing from the stubble burning areas.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Friday warned that Delhi would become a “gas chamber soon” as the Centre, Punjab and the Haryana governments were doing “absolutely nothing” for farmers involved in stubble burning.

Legal versus spiritual

n recent times, judicial activism has often more than not, subjected the legislature and executive to such a situation that the consequence have not been quite positive. The recent Sabarimala temple episode is one such case and which speaks volumes. Women and feminists have been crying hoarse against the medieval restrictions imposed by the Sabarimala temple against entry of women below 50 in menstruating age. The feminists believed that the religious restriction was unfair to women and that it was time to remove the restrictions. The media hyped up the issue as a classic case of religious discrimination against women. The opinion in the media seemed to suggest that the “progressive” majority had turned against the archaic and discriminatory rule. Then the Supreme Court on September 28, ruled that not allowing women in their “menstruating years” into the Sabarimala is ultra vires the constitution. The apex court then passed an order that all women should be allowed to enter the temple, by a 4:1. The ruling was delivered by a five-judge constitution bench comprising then Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices R.F. Nariman, A.M. Khanwilkar, D.Y. Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra. The one dissenting opinion on the bench was expressed by Justice Indu Malhotra.

The Supreme Court in effect, threw the doors of the Sabarimala temple open to all. The Sabarimala issue was also seen as an unwanted interference in the functioning of a religious community. Two women, a journalist and an activist, attempted to enter Kerala’s Sabarimala temple on Friday but were forced to turn back fearing violence. This comes a day after another journalist tried to climb the hill shrine but was stopped en route. Since Sabarimala opened on Wednesday, protesters have gathered in large numbers to disallow women from entering the temple, despite the Supreme Court lifting restrictions on women between the age of 10 and 50 from entering the shrine. On October 21, on the fifth day that the temple gates were opened and amid several hundred people near Sabarimala, six women who attempted to gate-crash inside were prevented from entering the Sabarimala temple by a large number of devotees of Lord Ayyappa as the stand-off over entry of women of menstrual age into the famous hill shrine continued for the fifth day. The female activist identified as Rehana Fathima Pyarijaan Sulaiman, who is a Muslim from Kerala who tried to enter the Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala on October 19, has been expelled from the Muslim community by the Kerala Muslim Jama-ath Council. The attempt by the women activists to enter the temple was taken as a fight against gender discrimination and had less to do with any religious bearing. According to media reports, the head priest at Sabarimala, Kantararu Rajeevaru, has said that he will close the shrine and hand over the keys to the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), which manages this temple, if women of menstruating age enter the temple. The court had also struck down Section 377 and decriminalized homosexuality in India. Religions prohibit same sex relations and the court by striking down the section, invaded the rights of religions and opened the doors for the eventualitysame sex marriage. Constitutional right to religious freedom is enshrined in the constitution but courts have through various rulings repeatedly annulled the democratic system by arrogantly and unconstitutionally disregard the will of the people.

Yet once you do, immediately God witnesses to Himself— He cannot witness to you, but He instantly witnesses to His own nature in you. If you received the witness of the Spirit before the reality and truth that comes from obedience, it would simply result in sentimental emotion. But when you act on the basis of redemption, and stop the disrespectfulness of debating with God, He immediately gives His witness. As soon as you abandon your own reasoning and arguing, God witnesses to what He has done, and you are amazed at your total disrespect in having kept Him waiting.

If you are debating as to whether or not God can deliver from sin, then either let Him do it or tell Him that He cannot. Do not quote this or that person to Him. Simply obey Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden….” Come, if you are weary, and ask, if you know you are evil (see Luke 11:9-13).

The Spirit of God witnesses to the redemption of our Lord, and to nothing else. He cannot witness to our reason. We are inclined to mistake the simplicity that comes from our natural commonsense decisions for the witness of the Spirit, but the Spirit witnesses only to His own nature, and to the work of redemption, never to our reason. If we are trying to make Him witness to our reason, it is no wonder that we are in darkness and uncertainty. Throw it all overboard, trust in Him, and He will give you the witness of the Spirit.

I

n the last two months there has been a major crisis in Punjab -on the front page of every local paper. Paneer, the state dish, has disappeared from the market. For the uninitiated, Paneer is an un-aged, fresh, non-melting cheese made by curdling milk with a vegetable-derived acid, such as lemon juice/lactic acid/citric acid/tartaric acid/alum or sour whey.

It is eaten all over North India (and, alas, has spread its tentacles into the south as well), but Punjab is its home and every house feels compelled to eat and serve it. Personally, I have find it disgusting and I would rather starve than eat it – and I frequently do that when travelling in planes where vegetarians are only given the paneer option.

For years I have been cautioning people not to eat milk, or any of its products.

Here is another reason why.

Because it is not paneer.

Unless you make it in your own house and with milk that you have taken from trusted sources – since most milk is not milk.

Let’s start with the math and then the empirical evidence. According to government data, India produces roughly 15 crore tonnes of milk annually.

If all of it were only to be used to make paneer, India would produce 7 lakh tonnes. Obviously that is not possible, since only a small percentage of this is turned into paneer. But 5 lakh tonnes of paneer are sold annually. So where do they come from?

They come from an odious mixture of maida, palm oil, baking powder, old discarded skimmed milk, detergent, bicarbonate of soda and Suphuric Acid. The same sulfuric acid that is found in lead-acid batteries, metal cleaners, drain cleaners and anti-rust products.

The same sulphuric acid that is thrown on women.

This is boiled till it becomes a semi solid product. Then it is poured into vessels,

flattened and left for a few hours. Finally it is cut into 5 kg bricks of “paneer” and sold. The residue is secretly drained into illegal bore wells within the premises, polluting underground water for miles around. On an average 5 kilos of “paneer” cost the maker Rs 30 or Rs 150. This is sold for Rs 150200 a kilo wholesale and Rs 300+ retail.

This is the modus operandi : the factory owners make the paneer in dirty shanties in industrial areas and sell the products to ghost “dairies” owned by themselves, or to “legitimate” dairies which have a few standing cows/buffaloes, and perhaps even extract some milk from them.

The dairies then sell them to prominent sweetshops and bakeries. Most of the paneer factories work at night, dispatch the product at dawn and then shut up for the rest of the day. In order to avoid being stopped at tolls, or be inspected, the paneer is often brought in the dicky of a car/SUV, instead of a tempo.

Just as the forest is cut with the active collusion of the forest department, the spurious food industry is run by food inspectors and the dairy department. Every now and then a Minister orders raids. Some people go to jail, the food item disappears, and then everything comes back to normal.

According to the factory owners, the local health officer charged Rs 5000 a month on “principle” and Rs 10,000 – Rs 15,000 to clear each food sample from the lab. It is extraordinary that a small state like Punjab should have so many spurious factories. None of them are near dairies – which itself should have sounded a warning bell a long time ago. Most of them are in industrial areas, or in small villages. While dozens of people have been sent to jail, not a single health official has had any action taken against him.

Real from fake 2018, there has been a statewise “crackdown” over a thousand spurious milk product/paneer factories in Punjab (out of many thousand). Chilling centres, creameries, milk establishments in remote areas, interception of tankers at toll barriers : all these have revealed acids and illegal colouring agents. Even the dairies that were legitimately making paneer were found to be so unhygienic – unwashed workers, rusted implements – that the paneer is unsafe to eat.

Paneer has vanished in the market – which means most, or all, of it was spurious. Most sweetmeats made from it have vanished from the mithai shops. Shopkeepers and “dairy” owners have refused all bulk orders.

Here are some examples to show you how large this illegal industry is : * The Mohali health department raided a paneer manufacturing unit in Ballomajra Village, Mohali. 20.6 quintals of spurious paneer, 33 quintals of skimmed milk powder, sulphuric acid and other chemicals were found.

The owner has been supplying this paneer daily to restaurants and dhabas at Chandigarh, Pinjore, Kalka, Rajpura and Panchkula, and some local colonies. While the factory owners claimed that they made cheese, ghee, butter and other dairy products from 5,000 litres of milk collected daily from Lehragaga in Sangrur village, no dairy was found.

The owner had no licence for any food product. The premises were filthy * A raid by a joint team of the health department, food safety department,

dairy development department and police, on two factories at Khokh Village, Nabha, Patiala, turned up 8 quintal spurious milk, 12 quintal fake paneer, skimmed milk and boxes of caustic soda. *A raid at Gonsawal village, Amritsar has led to the seizure of 58 bags of 25 kg each of skimmed low quality milk powder, 20 kg paneer and 30 kg adulterated milk. *A raid on a dairy on Ram Tirath Road, Amritsar, found 74 bags of skimmed milk powder, 35 kg of paneer, and 150 of kg adulterated milk. * Paneer and khoya manufacturing units at Neem Wala Mor village in Barnala, Fatehgarh Sahib district’s Chandila village, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, found huge quantities of fake paneer and khoya.

Sweetshops in Mansa were found selling quintals of fake patisa made from this paneer. * A food safety team raided paneer manufacturing units in Samrala and Baghapurana, Ludhiana and found 3 quintals of spurious paneer, 90 litres of palm oil, 39 empty Palm oil tins of 15 litres each, and 17 bags of 25 kg each of skimmed milk powder. * In Rajpura, Patiala district, a vehicle carrying 160 kg of fake paneer, coming from Narwana, in Jind district of Haryana, was intercepted by the food safety team. The vehicle was bound for a Dairy in Rajpura. The Narwana owner confessed that he sold spurious paneer at Rs 160 /kg to the dairy who further sold it. * A raid in village

Sangatpur Bhonki yielded 90 kg paneer, 1,400 kg milk, 18 empty bags of 25 kg Skimmed Milk Powder(SMP), 2 full bags of SMP were found. * At Boor Majra, Ropar, 12 quintal paneer were found. The hygiene conditions of the dairy were very poor and the dairy owners did not possess any licence. * The Jalandhar Food Team intercepted a car delivering paneer to a sweetshop in Adampur. The car was carrying paneer in rear storage and on the back seat. While the paneer was being inspected the driver fled with the car . * A vehicle carrying 300 kgs of spurious Khoya Burfi, Milk Cake, Ladoo, Patisa was intercepted at Jandiala Road, Tarntaran. * The shop of a khoya barfi supplier at Jaito, Faridkot was inspected and 1.5 Quintals of spurious barfi and dhoda sweets were found. The khoya burfi was brought from Fazilka and dhoda burfi from village Daria in Chandigarh and then resold to small shops. * Checking and sampling at a sweetshop at Garhshankar revealed approximately 100 kg of adulterated khoya.

Is Punjab the only place where this is happening? Of course not. The entire country is awash with spurious paneer, and almost every week there is a report from some local TV channel or newspaper about an illegal factory.

Here are some samples in the last month: * News 24: A Mahindra pickup was found with 120 kilos of spurious paneer going to Dehradun from Panipat. The bill of lading said it was plywood. * Bansal News: a raid in Morena, Madhya Pradesh delivered 1,500 kilos of fake paneer. The factory is in an industrial area, and filthy, cockroach ridden with paneer was being made and thrown on the floor. It has been raided several times.

The owner hides out for a few days and then restarts the business. * NNI: A raid in a Mathura paneer factory shows dirty vats, dirty handlers, rusted implements.

The place is full of milk powder and refined oil. The owner runs as soon as he sees the police. They buy at Rs 40-50 a kg and sell at Rs 300 a kg. A report by the food safety wing of the health department has revealed that 95% of the samples of paneer, collected from 60 shops and eateries in the city, have been found to be adulterated. Starch is added to cottage cheese to increase its quantity. When questioned, the team said that they only had the ability to look for starch adulteration as they were not competent to check for acids and chemicals in paneer, and their lab in Agamkuan was shut!!

How do you make out real from fake paneer? Pure paneer is soft in texture.

Synthetic one is rubbery.

Pure has a milky taste.

To the wedding seasons

arriage is a beautiful sacred. Since my infant days I have always daydreamed walking on the isle stepping steps forward with my dad who beholds most handsome heart.

I know not who my husband would be. All I know and do is pray, and pens hundred of wishes and plans for the awaiting day on my diary.

As my mom sets exemplary of how blessed it is to be a wife and a mother, inspiring through her depths of love, sacrifices, encouragements, joy in our little achievements and building bonds in all good times and little waves of temptations, made me to learn, work and build myself for the ‘day’ of the gift of life.

When I say gift of life, I fear now it disheartens me. A ceremony which was meant to be of happiness, of celebrations, of receiving blessings for the togetherness forever, is now doomed of bringing destructions, unfulfillments and unpleasant moments amongst two families and kins. For we the people have only been brainwashed with the shifts of society. We are blinded towards emotions but to material our visions clear. I bet now a marriage is only about outlook to please the eyes.

Most people I see attains happy ceremonial only as a spectator to see how the bride and the groom dresses, how’s the hall’s decorated, how’s food presented, how big the cake’s been made, and what not. I know not all study.

My heart experience pain. I pray. I, as though only teenage, half-adult I voice to you dear special ones, invitees amongst 2 million people of the world. THIS IS SO WRONG. Please understand that you are not invited to fill

the chairs. Your invitation cards never states, ‘please come and fill the chairs in the holy ceremony of our children’. You are invited with a purpose. Purpose to receive your blessings and for you to witness the happy communal of the bonding that you may be blessed too and that you may go and testify the joy in being a part of others happiness.

I would say to those preparing for the ceremony, do not set your day to please people. To please one person requires hard task. For you to please hundreds and thousands of people will drive you mad and bankrupt. At the end it’s never about how you pleased people but how pleasing you appeared in the eyes of God and your family.

To the invitees, please do not attain weddings for the sake of marking your attendance.

You are doing them nothing but only adding another kgs to your body.

I pray, as happy couples invites your presence may your presence add to their happiness and may you with your heart wish them good for their new start.

You know, the world can be a better place if only we learn to accept ourself, accept others and love more.

It is very important to love for love is the greatest commandment. Our God itself is love and we are created in his likeness.. Hence we all have love in us.

But then I see lack of love or rather absence of love in mankind. People often chooses whom to love and what to love. It is always a sad story, a sage of those who is exempted of receiving love in accord to society’s division.

Towards ‘Toy Factory’ is what once we girls rebelled

against. For it is always women who mostly becomes a victim to this state of affairs.

And so this why maybe most matured grown men around us are still the bachelors.

Society expects so much from we women. She ought to do that, she ought not do that, should behave this way, should not that,... The division is always into clear two cut. The good and bad. And there men go like buzzing bees in search of good women. I would say to you my brothers, IT’S RUBBISH. As Tony Smith fairly stated through Margret, “I don’t think that people can be divided into the good and bad women as though there were two separate races or creations. What are called the good women may have terrible things in them. Mad moods of recklessness, assertions, jealousy, sin. Bad women as are termed, may have in them sorrow, repentance, pity, sacrifice - love”.

And I urge to all you brothers, the bachelors who called, ‘the men of the world’, also to you sisters if you amongst in search.

STOP YOUR BUZZ. Stop searching for good but dig the good in bad. No gold is gold unless it is smithed and worked upon.

If only you give, if only you care, if only you love, you can make imperfect perfect for you. The world is full of imperfect people. Have someone whom your soul loves and with whom your soul finds its home. Believe in work, believe in prayer, believe in miracles. Believe that love is real and believe that love can change. At the end it’s always love that matters.

Naga Warriors !!! Are we?

agas are characterised by Valour, Bravery and Aggressive spirit. It is what we have inherited from our forefathers. The good lord has bestowed on me the good fortune of travelling and seeing things in other parts of the country, to some extent. The biggest problem which the other societies face is that of Corruption! I think the same is true for our state and society.

What is noticeable elsewhere is that there is growing unacceptability brewing for this menace in many a place and smarter digital solutions are emerging and getting implemented.

The awareness and assertiveness to eradicate corruption is gaining ground amongst the youth and percolating in governance.

Now let us take a look at our society. Apart from organisations like ACAUT which are based on the ideology of eradicating corruption and making attempts in fits and starts, there has not been a very valiant fight put up by our “Naga Warriors” which is ‘The public at large and Youth in particular. They have been dismally mute spectators while the society has sunk deeper and deeper into the abyss of Corruption. Why have we reached such a situation where the public at large has become so insensitive to the pathetic state of development, the same old lame excuses of meager funds being paraded and...etc. The situation has as much to blame the corrupt system, of-

ficials, politicians as the common man.

It has to be understood that - Accountability if not understood by the officials needs to be enforced, Responsibility if not accepted has to be forced upon and transparency if not provided to the public has to be ensured. Now the big ticket question is HOW? The answer lies in evoking the spirit of the Naga, the spirit which epitomizes bravery, activism and standing for truth. Does it have to follow the old method of violence or have times changed the Ways we fight this battle! Perhaps what is required is more activism by the people, being active and not passive, taking note of the commissions and omissions and demanding their rights, exerting pressure on the Government of the day to produce tangible results.

Attitude of questioning the powers to be on the lack of development, excessive taxation by multitude of agencies among other things is the need of hour.

Let us rekindle the Naga Spirit in these modern times and fight with resolve against corruption and excessive taxation. The power of masses should not be underestimated. However the masses need to be galvanised to be aware and conscious of their potential.

Passivity will definitely not kindle it, Activism by the people moulded in the right direction is the only key to unlock this puzzle!! So let’s start and do it, What are you waiting For. Lily Gloria Patton, John Memorial Hostel, Wokha

President stresses on nonviolence for human welfare

Nashik, Oct 22 (PTI): Jainism emphasises the importance of non-violence for human welfare and compassion, President Ram Nath Kovind said Monday.

He was speaking at the ‘Vishwashanti Ahimsa Sammelan’ (world peace and non-violence conference), organised by the Bhagwan Shri Rishabhdev 108-feet Vishalkai Digambar Jain Murti Nirman Committee at Mangi Tungi in Nashik district.

Inaugurating the conference, Kovind said the teachings of Jainism are relevant at a time when violence is taking place in the name of religion.

Stating that the 108 feet height of the statue sets a benchmark for mankind too, he said people should follow the path of non-violence and focus on character.

India has always been a strong proponent of non violence and peace, the President said. Various initiatives taken by the Central government like providing homes to homeless, building

toilets, Namami Gange, gas connections to poor women and the Ayushman Bharat scheme seek to empower citizens and mitigate harmful effects of man’s actions against nature, he said.

Bhagwan Mahavir gave special importance to ‘Apirigraha (not taking what is more than essential to live), he said. “Humankind is exploiting nature indiscriminately. Ruthless consumption and accumulation of resources is increasing. Due to this, phenomena like climate change are emerging as challenges. Following the Jain tradition shows us a way out,” he said.

Teachings of Bhagwan Rishabhdev are very

relevant even today, Kovind said, adding they enable cordial relationships among various religions and communities.

Maharashtra is a land of social harmony, spirituality and goodwill, he said.

Spiritual and political leaders like Sant Tukaram, Sant Namdeo, Guru Ramdas, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Dr B R Ambedkar gave the message of social harmony and love for the nation, he added.

Jainism teaches people to live and let live, Kovind added. At the event, the President presented the first Bhagwan Rishabhdev International Award, comprising Rs 11 lakh and a citation to the Teerthanker Mahaveer University at Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. The university chancellor Suresh Jain accepted the award.

NHRC issues notice on women stripping case

New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday issued a notice to Chhattisgarh DGP over allegedly stripping and beating a 60-yearold woman and her 27year-old daughter in police custody in Bilaspur.

Taking suo motu cognizance, the Commission asked the Director General of Police to submit a report in four weeks along with action taken against the guilty police personnel.

“While issuing the notice, the Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise serious issue of violation of human rights of the victims. Once a person is taken into custody, it becomes the duty of the police authorities to ensure his/her safety. But in this case, the police personnel themselves appear to have behaved in a cruel and inhuman manner and subjected the victims to physical torture,” the NHRC said in a statement.

A 60-year-old woman and her 27-year-old daughter were arrested on the charges of theft.

Resort politics returns in TN as ahead of HC verdict

C h e nna i , O c t 2 2 ( AG E N CIES ) : Re b e l AIADMK leader TTV Dinakaran has instructed all but one of the 18 disqualified MLAs in his camp to move to a resort near the Tirunelveli district as politics heats up in Tamil Nadu with speculations that the Madras High Court might decide on their fate this week.

According to sources, all the rebel MLAs barring P Vetrivel are likely to remain holed up at a resort in Courtallam till the verdict comes out.

The decision to shift the disqualified legislators comes just hours after Dinakaran met Sasikala at Bengaluru prison amid reports that the E Palanisami and O Panneerselvam

government is trying to poach the MLAs loyal to Dinakaran.

Justice M Satyanarayana, the third judge who was appointed by the Supreme Court to be the tie-breaker in the case, had reserved his verdict earlier. The Madras High Court had on June 14 given a split verdict on petitions challenging the disqualification of the 18 legislators, in a breather for the state government.

The verdict is being watched closely in political circles in the state as well as at the national stage since it has the potential to decide the future course of politics in Tamil Nadu.

If the verdict upholds the disqualification, byelections will be held on all the seats that would be

vacant and it would be an acid test for the AIADMK government, whose popularity has been on the decline since the demise of J Jayalalithaa, as evidenced by the result of the RK Nagar bypoll last year.

However, if the Speaker’s decision to disqualify the MLAs is reversed, the EPS government would plunge into a minority and it would have to face a floor test.

The 18 MLAs, who owe allegiance to Dinakaran, were disqualified from their membership after they submitted a letter to then Governor C H Vidyasagar Rao, expressing no confidence in CM Palaniswami.

In more trouble for the EPS-OPS government, four

more MLAs who contested under the AIADMK symbol have also pledged their support to Dinakaran. One of them, Karunas, had sent a notice to the secretary of the Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly, seeking the removal of Speaker P Dhanapal.

The ruling AIADMK has a strength of 116 MLAs excluding the Speaker but including the four who have now revolted.

While 18 MLAs owing allegiance to Dinakaran were disqualified, the DMK has 89 MLAs, its allies Congress has eight and the IUML has one in the 234-member strong House.

Dinakaran got elected from RK Nagar last year and is the lone Independent member of the House.

Sexual misconduct charges against Chandy, Venugopal

New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI): The Congress Monday said it will not defend or protect anybody and the law should take its due course after a case was registered against former Kerala chief minister Oomen Chandy and Congress MP K C Venugopal on a complaint of sexual misconduct filed by Solar scam accused Saritha S Nair.

The Crime Branch of the Kerala Police has registered cases against Chandy and Venugopal on a complaint of sexual misconduct filed by Nair.

SC to decide date for hearing Commuters struggle in NCR due to multiple strikes review petitions on Sabarimala New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI): The Supreme Court Monday said that it would decide tomorrow as to when the petitions, seeking review of its Sabarimala verdict allowing entry of women of all age groups into the temple, will be listed for hearing.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice S K Kaul considered the submissions of lawyer Mathews J Nedumpara that his petition seeking review of the

constitutional bench judgment be listed for urgent hearing. “We know that there are 19 review petitions pending. By tomorrow we will decide,” the bench said. Nedumpara was mentioning the petition filed by National Ayyappa Devotees Association.

A five-judge constitution bench by a ratio of 4:1 had held that women of all age groups should be allowed entry inside Kerala’s Sabarimala Temple.

The court had on Oc-

tober 9 declined an urgent hearing on Nedumpara’s plea which had contended that the five-judge Constitution bench verdict lifting the ban was “absolutely untenable and irrational”.

The bench had said that the review petitions could only be taken up after the Dussehra vacation, adding that in any case, it will be heard in chamber and not in open court.

New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS): Commuters in the national capital had a rough Monday following multiple strikes by fuel pumps, autorickshaw and taxi unions and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) contractual employees.

A total of 400 petrol pumps went on strike protesting the Arvind Kejriwal government’s refusal to reduce VAT on fuels.

The Delhi Petrol Dealers Association (DPDA) which

called the strike said the AAP government’s inaction was hampering their business.

NEW DELHI, OCT 22 (AGENCIES): Singapore is now linked to 16 Indian cities with Bhutan’s Drukair Royal Airlines starting flights to the prosperous island nation from Guwahati.

The rupee came under pressure following heavy selling in domestic equities and the crude oil breaching the USD 80 per barrel mark on geo-political worries related to killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Brent crude, the international benchmark, again went past the the USD 80-mark to quote USD 80.14 per barrel on Monday, putting pressure on the local unit.

Silver also shed Rs 100 to Rs 39,500 per kg due to reduced offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

Apart from a weak global trend, marketmen said, tepid demand from local jewellers and retailers at the domestic spot market, weighed on gold prices.

Globally, gold fell 0.02 per cent to USD 1,227.20 an ounce, while silver was up 0.21 per cent to USD 14.73

BoI closes branch in Jersey

NEW DELHI, OCT 22 (PTI): State-run Bank of India has closed down its operations at Jersey in the Channel Islands with effect from October 18.

“This is to inform that Jersey Financial Services Commission has allowed the closure of our Jersey branch with effect from October 18, 2018,” BoI said in a regulatory filing. Earlier, the bank had also closed down its operations in Yangoon, Bostwana and Dubai.

As per the BoI website, it has overseas operations in Japan, Singapore, the UK, Vietnam, France, Kenya, the US, Uganda, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Tanzania and South Africa. The closure of overseas branches is part of the public sector banks’ efforts to wind up the unviable operations as per the instructions of the Finance Ministry. By March this year, PSBs had closed down 35 overseas branches and representative offices as part of the clean and responsible banking initiative.

New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI): India is now home to 81,000 individuals with disclosed income of above Rs 1 crore per annum, with this ‘crorepati club’ expanding by over two-third in last three years, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) data showed Monday.

Releasing key statistics of income tax and direct taxes, the policy-making body of the IT department said the total number of crorepati taxpayers, which includes corporates, firms, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) and individuals, has also seen a growth of about 60 per cent during the same time period.

“The total number of taxpayers (corporates, firms, Hindu undivided families among others) showing income of above Rs 1 crore has registered a sharp increase over the three-year horizon.

“While 88,649 taxpayers had disclosed income above Rs 1 crore in assessment year 2014-15, the figure was 1,40,139 for AY 2017-18, which is a growth of about 60 per cent,” the CBDT said.

Similarly, the number of “individual” taxpayers disclosing income above Rs 1 crore had increased during the same period from 48,416 to 81,344, which translated into a growth of 68 per cent.

“There is also an increase of 26 per cent in the average tax paid by individual taxpayers from Rs 46,377 in AY 2014-15 to Rs 58,576 in AY 2017-18,” it said.

CBDT Chairman Sushil Chandra said the department will ensure that the honest taxpayer is facilitated and helped at all times, while there will be strict legal and prosecution action against tax evaders.

“We are using a lot of data analytics and non-intrusive ways to check tax evasion.

The department is committed to bring more and more easiness and transparency for the taxpayers while dealing with the department,” Chandra said.

The rating agency, however, said that the profitability will improve from next fiscal as asset quality stabilises. Moody’s said capitalisation is the weakest for Indian banks with a tangible common equity ratio of 8.7 percent at the end of 2017.

New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI): The number of and average income declared by salaried and non-salaried categories of taxpayers in the country have increased over the past three years, the CBDT said on Monday.

The policy-making body for the Income Tax Department (ITD), while releasing the latest data, also said that the “average tax” paid by corporates and individual taxpayers has seen a jump over the same time period. The number of salaried and non-salaried taxpayers saw an increase between 2014-15 and 2017-18 assessment years (AY) and it was a result of continuous efforts of the department initiated for widening and deepening the taxpayer base in the country, it said.

“During a three-year period (assessment year 2014-15 to 2017-18), the number of salaried taxpayers has increased from 1.70 crore (assessment year 2014-15) to 2.33 crore (AY 2017-18). This is a rise of 37 per cent. “Also, the average income declared by the salaried taxpayers has gone up by 19 per cent from Rs 5.76 lakh to Rs 6.84 lakh,” the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said in a statement.

Erdogan vows to reveal details of Khashoggi death

I s ta n bu l , O c t 2 2 (AFP): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to reveal within days the “naked truth” over the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, as Riyadh said it did not know the whereabouts of his body and that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had been unaware of any operation to murder him.

The Turkish leader’s statement came the day after Saudi authorities conceded Khashoggi had been killed inside their diplomatic compound in Istanbul.

“We are looking for justice here and this will be revealed in all its naked truth, not through some ordinary steps but in all its naked truth,” Erdogan told a rally in Istanbul.

In his strongest comments to date on the affair, President Donald Trump accused Saudi Arabia of lying about the killing of Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist who fell out of favour with the ultraconservative kingdom, as pressure built on the US administration to strike a tougher line.

been a “rogue operation” by individuals who “exceeded their responsibilities” and then “tried to cover up for it”. Jubeir insisted in an interview with Fox News that the operation was not ordered by the crown prince known by his initials MBS, also adding that “we don’t know where the body is”.

Erdogan, who has not yet directly blamed Saudi Arabia, held a telephone call with Trump on Sunday where the two leaders agreed the Khashoggi case needed to be clarified “in all its aspects,” a Turkish presidential source said.

Erdogan is expected to make a full statement to his party’s MPs in parliament at on Tuesday. Turkish officials have said they believe that 15 Saudi men who arrived in Istanbul on two flights on October 2 were connected to Khashoggi’s

death.

Riyadh reacted by claiming one of the 15 had died in a car accident years ago. Saudi officials originally said Khashoggi, who stepped inside the doors of the diplomatic mission on October 2, had left unharmed, before announcing he was killed inside the building in what they described as an altercation.

The kingdom has since admitted Khashoggi died in a “brawl” inside the consulate and said it has fired five top officials and arrested 18 others in an investigation into the killing.

Khashoggi, who would have been 60 this month, sought refuge in the United States after fleeing his native Saudi Arabia after the 2017 appointment of strongman Mohammed bin Salman as heir to the throne.

The journalist, who had espoused both Islamist and liberal views throughout his decades-long career in the press, was engaged to a Turkish woman.

His killing has further soured relations between Saudi Arabia and Turkey, already at loggerheads over Qatar, with which Riyadh cut ties in 2017 and to which Ankara has deployed aid and troops.

Berlin, Oct 22 (IANS): Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced the suspension of German arms sales to Saudi Arabia, saying they cannot be undertaken in the current circumstances, a reference to the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi who disappeared on October 2 and whom Riyadh has admitted died inside its consulate in Istanbul.

“Regarding weapons exports, these cannot take place at this time,” said Merkel in Berlin after meeting with top officials from her party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

Merkel earlier had condemned Khashoggi’s death in a joint communique with her Social Democratic Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas.

The German leader emphasized that the evolving explanations given to date by Riyadh for the journalist’s death were insufficient, adding that Berlin will undertake to coordinate with its partners to adopt a

common position vis-a-vis the Saudi government.

In the joint statement with Maas, Merkel had “categorically” condemned Khashoggi’s death, which the Saudi gover nment claims - implausibly, in the opinion of many analysts - occurred in its Istanbul consulate on October 2 during a “fight” that got out of hand.

“We expect transparency on the part of Saudi Arabia with regard to the circumstances of the death.

Those responsible must be called to account,” the two officials said in their communique.

Maas, meanwhile, said in remarks to Germany’s Channel 1 that after Khashoggi’s death there was no basis for approving future arms exports to the Middle Eastern kingdom.

Although Maas had criticized Berlin’s arms sales to Saudi Arabia in recent months, weapons exports are within the purview of Germany’s Economy Ministry, not the Foreign Ministry.

After Khashoggi’s disappearance and once his death was finally confirmed, Maas - along with many top international officials and a number of German and international businessmen - cancelled his participation in an economic conference in Riyadh.

Islamabad, Oct 22 (IANS): At least 19 people were killed and over 40 others injured in a head-on collision between two passenger buses in Pakistan’s Punjab province on Sunday night, police and media said. According to reports, the accident happened on Multan road in Dera Ghazi Khan district, reports Xinhua news agency.

One of the passenger buses was completely destroyed in the accident, reported TV channel ARY News, adding that the bodies of the dead and injured were retrieved after cutting parts of the buses. A hospital official said the death toll might further rise as several injured were in critical condition. Police officials in the area said the accident happened due to speeding and negligence of one of the bus drivers. According to official data, around 9,000 road accidents are reported every year in Pakistan, claiming more than 4,500 lives on average annually.

His remarks came a day after six civilians were killed after an explosive went off at an encounter site in Kulgam district of South Kashmir. “Strongly condemn the new cycle of killings of innocent Kashmiris....by Indian security forces,” Khan tweeted.

“It is time India realise it must move to resolve the Kashmir dispute through dialogue in accordance with the UN SC resolutions &

the wishes of the Kashmiri people,” he said.

Three militants were killed Sunday in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district, while six civilians lost their lives in a blast following the gunfight there. It is not the first time Khan has spoken about Kashmir. In September, New Delhi called off a meeting between the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan, citing killings of Indian security personnel

by Pakistan-based entities and the release of Pakistani postage stamps “glorifying a terrorist and terrorism”.

In his victory speech after the July elections, Khan expressed his willingness to improve Pakistan’s ties with India and said that his government would like the leaders of the two sides to resolve all disputes, including the “core issue” of Kashmir, through talks.

Kunduz, Oct 22 (IANS): Taliban key commander Mullah Mansoor, the military operational chief of the outfit, was among 21 armed insurgents who were killed in Afghanistan's Kunduz province in a crackdown, officials said on Monday. Army spokesman Ghulam Hazrat Karimi said that about 30 more militants were injured and the Taliban militants were expelled from several villages in Imam Sahib district.

She has won the Miss Deaf Asia 2018 title at an international pageant held in Prague recently.

Nishtha, who is the first Indian to have won any title at the Miss Deaf World Pageant, said on Monday that she faced tough competition from contestants representing China, Thailand, Taiwan, Israel, Czech Republic, Belarus, Mexico, South Africa and other countries at the 18th edition of Miss and Mister Deaf World -Europe -Asia Beauty Pageant 2018 held recently at Prague, Czech Republic.

The beauty from Haryana’s industrial city of Panipat, around 85 km from New Delhi, who was born deaf did not think of herself being differently-abled and chose to take her chance in the field of beauty.

The 23-year-old Panipat girl is a commerce graduate from Venkateshwara College, Delhi University, and presently pursuing MA in economics from Mithibai College, University of Mumbai. Prior to this title, Nishtha had also won the Miss Deaf India title

on February 26 this year in Jaipur.

She is the brand ambassador for Sivantos India Pvt Ltd. (Formerly Siemens hearing Instruments Pvt Ltd.), the world’s leading brand of hearing aids, having about a 25 per cent market share globally.

Nishtha was always a bright student from her school days, who was always keen on learning something new in life. Seeing her interest in extra-curricular activities, her mother sent her to learn judo at the age of seven.

Nishtha did judo for about five years, participated in various tournaments up to international level and won medals.

The beauty queen is also an accomplished tennis player and has played many AITA, ITF and Asian tour tennis tournaments. Nishtha had also participated in Deaflympics 2013 (held in Sofia, Bulgaria), World Deaf Tennis Championship 2015 (held in Nottingham, UK) and Deaflympics 2017 (held in Samsun, Turkey).

Ved Prakash Dudeja, father of Nishtha and Chief Engineer in the Northern Railways, gave the credit of his daughter’s success to his wife who has worked hard for Nishtha’s success.

ustralian actor Chris Hemsworth surprised a hitchhiker by giving him a helicopter ride to a surfing spot.

The Thor star posted an Instagram video of himself and a friend picking up US musician Scott Hildebrand in Brisbane, who had just arrived from Mexico.

“Picked up a hitchhiker, wasn’t a serial killer which we were stoked about,” Hemsworth wrote.

One commenter on the post branded Hemsworth a “true Aussie champion” for his hospitality.

Hemsworth and his friend Luke Zocchi spotted the musician after arriving in the eastern city of Brisbane, and decided to offer him a lift.

“Little does he know we’re getting a chopper,” Zocchi says.

After flying him and his guitar to Byron Bay, Hemsworth said it was “back to hitchhiking” for his new friend.

The US musician seemed overwhelmed by the experience.

“The experience was so cool and unexpected,” Hildebrand told E! News.

“They’re so nice and I couldn’t believe it was happening.”

The actor said he saw a dream about being at a naval base, which turned into a reality with his submarine thriller “Hunter Killer”. “ I a c t u a l ly h a d a dream. I’m all about insights, dreams, epiphanies and I had this dream that I was on a naval base, couldn’t quite tell whether I was making the movie or I was just living on a naval base but it was the most incredible dream that I felt so connected to everybody and when I woke up,” Butler said in a statement to IANS. “It was the same thing, I had the same dream about being an actor when I was much younger, it was the same, when I woke up I went to the producer and said we must make this movie. I tell you it’s my destiny to make this film,” he added.

The film is adapted from Don Keith and George Wallace’s 2012 novel “Firing Point”. Butler plays a submarine captain on a mission to rescue the Russian president and avoid World War 3 by firing torpedoes at everything in sight.

Colombo, Oct 22 ( Ag e n c i e s ) : Jo n n y Bairstow will miss England’s final ODI and oneoff T20I against Sri Lanka after scans revealed a right ankle ligament injury.

Bairstow sustained the injury while playing football in practice on Friday and subsequently missed the fourth ODI in Kandy on Saturday as England sealed a series victory with a game to spare.

The 29-year-old will be monitored by the England medical team on a daily basis with a further update on his fitness given in due course ahead of the three-Test series in Sri Lanka, which starts in Galle on November 6.

The fifth ODI against Sri Lanka will be staged in Colombo on Tuesday, with the T20 international held at the same venue on Saturday. Bairstow is the only batsman so far to score 1,000 ODI runs in 2018, completing the milestone during England’s victory in the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Dambulla on October 13.

Bihar being the top team qualified for the knock-out stage.

Nagaland put up an exceptional show in the tournament defeating Manipur, Arunachal, Sikkim Pudducherry, Meghalaya and Mizoram, drew with Uttrakhand due to bad weather and lost only to Bihar (6 wins, one drawn and one loss).

Kyle Edmund beat Gael Monfils to claim his first ATP Tour singles title.

A n t w e r p, O c t 2 2 (Agencies): Kyle Edmund claimed the first ATP Tour singles title of his career by battling back from a set down to beat Gael Monfils and win the European Open.

Edmund will rise to a career-high 14 in the world rankings on the back of a year that has seen him reach his first Grand Slam semi-final in Australia, take over from Andy Murray as the British No 1, and seal a first doubles crown

A n d h e h a s n ow claimed his first singles title after a tight 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-4) win over Monfils gave him the trophy in Antwerp.

“I’m obviously very happy. A lot of hard work goes into this. So it’s just emotional,” Edmund said after receiving the trophy.

“You always remember this one. Gael made me work for it today, that’s for sure, so credit to him. I’m

just so happy.”

The Frenchman was more dominant on serve, sending down three aces to Edmund’s one, which was enough to hand him the first set.

AUSTIN , O c t 2 2 (Agencies): Kimi Raikkonen won the United States Grand Prix, his first Formula One victory since 2013, as a strong Sunday from Ferrari put on hold Lewis Hamilton’s bid for a fifth career championship.

Hamilton could have closed out the season title if he had finished with a result that put him 8 points ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. MDFA Trophy: Zonipang, SSS Yellow win
