Governor P.B. Acharya at the three-day Amur Falcon Conservation Week.

DIMAPUR, NOV 8 (NPN): Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya attended the inaugural function of the three-day Amur Falcon Conservation Week 2018 at Polytechnic Institute, Ashaa in Wokha on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Acharya said importance was being given to the festival to promote eco-tourism and attract tourists, which would ensure economic development. “We have the potentiality to become one of the richest States in the country, but we have to plan meticulously and see that our empowered and highly educated Naga youth come back to Nagaland and work for our people

to make the State prosperous,” he stressed. Stating that God had blessed people of Pangti village as the birds come in millions to this area only as they knew that this was a peaceful area, Acharya reminded the villagers that God had identified their village and its surrounding areas as the most peaceful area. He said earlier people, knowingly or unknowingly, started killing these birds, but now there was an awakening. Acharya congratulated Pangti villagers, church leaders, NGOs, government departments and stakeholders for initiating and motivating the people to preserve the birds.

DIMAPUR, NOV 8 (NPN): Nagaland Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association (NSSATA) 2010 and 2013 batch, has appealed to the state government to release five months pending salary at the earliest. In a press release, NSSATA president, Penthungo Y Yanthan, and general secretary, Vinoka Sohe, pointed out that the association as per the agreement made with the state government in the presence of the NSF and ENSF on June 12, 2018 has been “patiently waiting” for a positive and a permanent solution to end the grievances. They said the agreement signed included finding a mechanism for timely release of salaries. On the request of the department, they said the association had assisted at the directorate for 24 days i.e., right after discharging their school duties on weekdays as well as relinquishing their holidays on non working days to speed up the process for the implementation of 7th ROP and timely release of the salaries. (Cont’d on p-7) However, despite of all those,

Acharya also thanked the tourism department and Wokha district administration for taking up the task of clearing the roads so that foreign and domestic tourists could visit and enjoy this Godgifted place. Lauding the efforts they had put in preserving the birds without causing any disturbance, Acharya appealed to all to restrain themselves and see to it that the whole conservation efforts were taken care of and save the environment. He remarked that God had blessed the Lotha community with many resources and that the people should know how to develop to make Nagaland “golden”. Giving the keynote address, tourism secretary Mhabemo Yanthan said the programme was being organised with the objective of drawing focus on the benefits of tourism, showcase cultural diversity and promote tourism. He said the State had celebrated Paryatan Parv with the theme “Global Warming”.

NSSATA said the teachers have not been paid for five months (June to October 2018). The association stated that the teachers have been discharging their duties sincerely even though salaries were not being paid. It said the inability of the government to release the salaries on time was “relieving the teachers of their justified entitlement.” NSSATA claimed that sanctioned salary bill for three months (June to August 2018) had been at the directorate of school education since October 27, 2018. The association has, therefore, requested the department to release the salaries at the earliest for the sake of the teachers. Meanwhile, NSSATA has acknowledged the state government for taking the decision to bring the SSA and RMSA teachers of 2010 and 2013 “into the mainstream of the School Education Cadre”. Stating that the decision has brought much relief to the teachers, the association has urged the department to initiate the matter with utmost priority.

economy), more revenue, more resources for the poor, better infrastructure, and a better quality of life for our citizens.” He further said with the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST), it is now becoming increasingly difficult to evade the tax system and the indirect tax to gross domestic product (GDP) ratio has gone up to 5.4 per cent post GST, from

4.4 per cent in 2014-15. Terming the criticism, that almost the entire cash money got deposited in the banks post demonetization, as “ill-informed”, Jaitley said confiscation of currency was not an objective of demonetization. “Getting it into the formal economy and making the holders pay tax was the broader objective...,” Jaitley said. Of the Rs 15.41 lakh crore worth Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in circulation on November 8, 2016, 99.3 per cent or notes worth Rs 15.31 lakh crore have returned to the banking system. This means, just Rs 10,720 crore of the junked currency did not return to the banking system. Jaitley said demonetisation compelled holders of cash to deposit the same in the banks.

NEW DELHI, NOV 8 (IANS): Attacking his successor Narendra Modi’s measure of withdrawing old high-value bank notes from circulation, former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Thursday urged the Centre to restore certainty and visibility in its economic policies. Former prime minister and noted economist called demonetization an “ill-fated” and “ill-thought” exercise and asked the NDA regime not to indulge in any further unorthodox, shortterm economic measures that could cause any more uncertainty in the economy and financial markets. Dr.Singh said in his statement: “Today marks the second anniversary of the ill-fated and ill-thought demonetization... The havoc that it unleashed on the

Indian economy and society is now evident to everyone”. “Notebandi impacted every single person, regardless of age, gender, religion, occupation or creed,” Dr.Singh said. “I urge the government to restore certainty and visibility in economic policies. Today is a day to remember how economic misadventures can roil the nation for a long time and understand

that economic policymaking should be handled with thought and care.” He also said that even after two years, the economy was yet to “recover from the demonetization shock”. “It is often said that time is a great healer. But unfortunately, in the case of demonetization, the scars and wounds of demonetization are only getting more visible with time,” Dr. Singh said. He said that the step had “a direct impact on employment as the economy continues to struggle to create enough new jobs for our youth”. Singh said financial markets are volatile as the liquidity crisis wrought by demonetization is taking its eventual toll on infrastructure lenders and non-bank financial services firms.
