MHA’s new COVID guidelines

NEW DELHI, NOV 25 (PTI): Amid a spurt in coronavirus cases in some regions, the Centre on Wednesday said states and union territories can impose local restrictions like night curfew to check the spread of COVID-19 but made it clear that they will have to consult it before imposing any lockdown outside the containment zones. While issuing guidelines for “Surveillance, Containment and Caution” for December, the MHA said the main focus of the directive is to consolidate the substantial gains which are visible in the steady decline in the number of active cases in the country. The guidelines said that keeping in view the recent spike in new cases in a few states and UTs, ongoing festival season and onset of winter, it is emphasised that to fully overcome the pandemic there is a need to maintain caution and strictly follow the prescribed containment strategy. The containment strategy should be focussed on surveillance, containment and strict observance of the guidelines and SOPs issued by the MHA and the Minis-

CM appoints Medo Yhokha as advisor D I M A P U R , N OV 2 5 (NPN): State chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, has appointed Medo Yokha, MLA, who recently won the by-election to the 14 Southern Angami-I assembly constituency, as advisor for technical education and elections with immediate effect. The chief minister Rio handed the appointment letter to Yhokha at his office, in presence of deputy chief minister Y Patton, several ministers, NDPP president Chingwang Konyak and state BJP president Temjen Imna Along. Yhokha has expressed gratitude to chief minister for appointing him as the advisor. He also acknowledged the NDPP leaders led by the party president for the support. “I will be committed and will try to emulate and perform my responsibilities up to the expectation of the general public and leaders for the upliftment of the departments,” he said.

He was 71. The last rites of the senior leader, who was confidant, crisis manager and consensus builder for the Congress, will be held in Bharuch in his home state Gujarat on Thursday, sources close to the family said. The body will be taken to his native village in a special aircraft directly from the hospital. Family members will leave in another plane, they said. State’s COVID-19 tally nears 11k D I M A P U R , N OV 2 5 (NPN): Nagaland on Wednesday reported 60 COVID-19 positive cases from across the state— 35 in Dimapur, 21 in Kohima and two each in Mon and Peren taking the tally to 10991. State health minister S Pangnyu Phom, in his daily update, informed that 66 patients have recovered— 46 in Dimapur, 19 in Kohima and one in Zunheboto. Out of the total 10991 positive cases, 9357 have recovered and currently there are 1465 active cases in the state.

The number of total coronavirus cases rose to 92,22,216 in the country, while the death toll climbed to 1,34,699 with 481 new fatalities, the ministry’s data showed. The active caseload shot up to 4,44,746 even though it remained below five lakh for the 15th consecutive day, the data stated.

ENPO condemns Thongtso incident D I M A P U R , N OV 2 5 (NPN): Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) has condemned the November 18, 2020 Thongtso village incident in which one person was killed, another person was injured and some houses were torched by unidentified miscreants. In view of prevailing tense situation, the ENPO through its media cell has appealed to all concerned public of the area to cooperate with the district police force in bringing the perpetrators to book and take necessary action per the law. Army chief inaugurates residential facility at KODH D I M A P U R , N OV 2 5 (NPN): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Manoj Naravane, who is on a threeday visit to North East, inaugurated a new residential facility at Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home (KODH), Kohima on Wednesday. KODH is located on NH-29 approximately 8 km at away from Kohima town. According to a defence release, the new facility would be run by the Assam Rifles, which organised construction and furnishing of the facility that presently takes care of 95 children including 26 girls. In open spaces, people wiil be allowed as per the size of the ground. However, based on their assessment of the situation, state and UT governments may reduce the ceiling to 100 persons or less in closed spaces. The guidelines were enclosed with a list of 19 SOPs that have been issued from time to time to regulate the activities that have been permitted.

D I M A P U R , N OV 2 5 (NPN): Expressing concern over the closure of New Market for the last couple of days, especially in the backdrop of the upcoming festive season, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) has appealed to the responsible authority to immediately lift the closure in the best interest of both the business community and the shoppers. In a press release, DCCI president Akashe K Zhimomi stated that the sudden notice for closure of the market came as “a rude shock” since the business community just started to build their “shattered economy.” DCCI has also reminded all shops and business houses to strictly comely with the latest Covid-19 safety guidelines. DCCI warned that strict action

would be initiated against those shops violating the safety guidelines issued by the District Task Force Dimapur. Meanwhile, DCCI has requested all shops and business establishments to clean, spruce up and decorate their respective shops and premises latest by the first week of December. It also requited business welfare committees and unions of various markets registered under DCCI to supervise the cleaning, facelift and festive decorations in their respective jurisdictions.
