Youth are storehouse of ideas: PM

NEW DELHI, NOV 25 (AGENCIES): Addressing the nation on 50th edition of his monthly radio programme “Mann Ki Baat”, the Prime Minister said that for communicating with the youth he try to look into the young minds and simply try to put himself in their place and adjust his views accordingly. Modi said his effort was to have a continuous dialogue with the youth in various programmes or through social media. “I try to learn from whatever they are doing or whatever they are thinking. They are storehouse of ideas. They are extremely energetic, innovative and focused.” “It is my experience that it makes easier for the other person to put aside all arguments and pressure to convince us and attune to our wavelength and hence communication gap is eliminated,” he said. Asserting that youth don’t support anything they don’t believe in, the Prime Minister said, “They do not endorse anything they don’t believe in and when they believe in something they pursue it wholeheartedly.”

Narendra Modi (File) “In fact in our families, there is a limited range of interaction with teenagers, mostly the subject of discussion is studies or lifestyle issues such as what to do and what not to do. Open and frank discussions without any expectation have become rare in families and it is a matter of concern,” said Prime Minister Modi. Modi said that for effective communication with the youth, “accept in place of expect” and “discuss instead of dismiss” should be the mantra. Modi further went on to point out that his monthly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’ was never about politics. Underlining that ‘Mann Ki Baat’ is “a plat-

form for raising issues of social relevance”, Modi said that he had made it clear at the very beginning that it will not serve as a tool to tom-tom government’s achievements. “When Mann Ki Baat started, I decided that politics will not be a part of it. It’ll neither have the praises of the government nor my name. I got the inspiration and strength to stay true to my resolution from all of you,” the PM said in the 50th episode of his radio address. Thanking the media, the PM said that the media adopted the issues raised in the programme and helped in significant campaigns on cleanliness, road safety, drug free India and selfie with

daughter. Modi, while addressing the nation on the golden jubilee of his “Mann Ki Baat” a day ahead of the Constitution Day, said that the architect of Indian constitution Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar gave millions of Indians the right to dignified life. Modi said that the balance between the rights and duties in the life of citizens will take the country forward. “If we respect the rights of others, our rights will automatically be protected. Similarly, if we fulfill the duties enshrined in the Constitution, our rights will automatically be protected,” said Narendra Modi. “Both rights and duties have been discussed at length in our constitution,” he added. “While remembering the Constituent Assembly we can never forget the contribution of the great person Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar who was at the centre of Constituent Assembly. December 6 will be his Mahaparinirvan Diwas. On behalf of all the countrymen, I pay homage to Baba Saheb who gave millions of Indians the right to dignified life.”

BJP trashes NPCC attack on Patton D I M A P U R , N OV 2 5 (NPN): BJP has trashed Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee’s (NPCC) accusation against deputy chief minister Y Patton of making a “mockery” of Nagas before the eyes of Mizos for Patton’s statement that Nagas had accepted BJP. Terming the accusation as amusing and a personal attack on its leader who had outshone parochial NPCC leaders, BJP said it was an attempt on the part of Congress to hog headlines. Likening NPCC to a “paper tiger”, BJP through its media cell said Congress was still building “political castles” in the air by ignoring ground realities. Claiming that its (BJP) vote share was 14% during the last Assembly election and that its success rate was more than 50% – having won 12 of the 20 seats it had contested – and highest among all political parties, BJP said

it implied its acceptance by the Naga people. It compared its figures with that of Congress, which failed to win a single seat despite having fielded candidates in all the 60 constituencies. On poor road condition in the State, BJP asserted that PDA was doing its best to amend and initiate what successive governments in the past, including Congress, had failed in this sector. Though recent natural calamities in the State had hampered ongoing road repair works and construction of new roads, the ruling coalition was committed to deliver its promises, especially on road sector, BJP reiterated. Reminding that Union minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for 4-lane of Dimapur-Kohima NH-29 near Chathe river bridge, Patkai College junction Chümoukedima in November 2015, the party said it was a fulfilment of the an-

nouncement made by then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee during his maiden visit to Nagaland in October 2003. This was evident that BJP has concerns for development of the State, it added. Accusing Congress of putting the four-lane project in cold storage when it ruled the Centre for 10 years (2004 to 2014), BJP asked NPCC why it was silent at that point of time. The party claimed that it was only after BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi had come to power in 2014 that the 4-lane project was revived, and that soon the people of Nagaland would have quality road. It admitted that the people would have to bear with the inconveniences caused while works were on progress for the time being. BJP added that it welcomed constructive suggestion rather than criticism just for the sake of it.

British Parl access internal FB data scandal papers L O N D O N, N OV 2 5 (IANS): Days ahead of a seven-nation panel hearing on Facebook, the British Parliament has reportedly seized internal company documents that contain revelations on data and privacy controls that led to Cambridge Analytica scandal. According to a report in The Guardian on Sunday, the internal documents “include confidential emails between senior executives, and correspondence with (Mark) Zuckerberg”. “Damian Collins, the chair of the culture, media and sport select committee, invoked a rare parliamentary mechanism to compel the founder of a US software company, Six4Three, to hand over the documents during a business trip to London,” said the report. “We are in uncharted territory. This is an unprecedented move but it’s an unprecedented situation. “We’ve failed to get answers from Facebook and we believe the documents contain information of very high public interest,” Collins was quoted as saying.

DIMAPUR, NOV 25 (NPN): To meet the growing demand for fuel in Nagaland, three major public sector undertaking (PSU) Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs): Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), have undertaken retail outlet network expansion comprising both regular and rural retail outlets and will be opening 106 new retail fuel outlets. In their bid to reach out to consumers in both agricultural pockets and urban hubs of Nagaland, the

three OMCs had published invitations for tenders on November 25 seeking retail outlet dealers. The number of retail outlet dealerships has a major percentage reserved for entrepreneurs and prospective applicants from Scheduled Tribes. Currently Nagaland has around 75 retail fuel outlets and 56 LPG distributors. To announce their expansion plans, a press conference was held at Hotel Shilloi near Clock Tower here on Sunday addressed by IOCL state level coordinator of Nagaland, N Kashung; BPCL chief manager, Retail Initiatives NE region, B K Sikder; HPCL area sales manager,

Sijou Swrjee; and senior manager of HPCL, Limathung Odyuo. In his opening remarks, N Kashung said that the Ministry had simplified the process of dealership selection with introduction of user-friendly online applications. He added that for the first time, a computerized draw of lots and bid opening would be done under the aegis of an independent agency to ensure transparency. The eligibility criteria have also been relaxed to a great extent to accommodate more applicants with the new age eligibility being between 21 to 60 years. The detailed advertisement and brochures for the three oil companies are available at www. petrolpumpdealerchayan. in, and the last date for application submissions and payment of the application fee is December 24. Also, to do away with the perception that dealership of fuel retail outlets is generally meant for the ultra rich, N. Kashung added that this time around, the financial capability criteria has been dispensed with. (Cont’d on p-7)

Modi champion in making false statements: NPCC D I M A P U R , N OV 2 5 (NPN): In a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) termed him a liar and a champion in making false and fraudulent statements. Referring to Modi’s claims that North-eastern States were at peace and had moved beyond guns, shutdowns and blockades, NPCC president K Therie alleged that BJP and its allies had compromised with the insurgents at the cost of public life and property. And having no option, the public were forced to buy peace, he added. The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee president asserted that no citizen in the Northeast was free from extortion and threat to life. To buttress his claim that Modi was a liar and champion in making false

and fraudulent statements, the NPCC president recalled that on August 3, 2015, he had announced in Parliament that something very special would happen at 6 pm. And that night, Centre’s interlocutor RN Ravi was made to sign a document with Th Muivah and christened it as Naga Accord / Framework Agreement, before claiming in Dubai that Nagaland’s problem was resolved, which was a big fraud. Ridiculing the Prime Minister for claiming that neighbouring States had excellent roads, Congress asked him which State he was talking about as it was certainly not Nagaland. The party alleged that even the neighbouring BJP States were unable to maintain roads that it had once developed. Dismissing Modi’s allegation that Congress

followed a divide-and-rule policy, the party clarified that it believed in unity and integrity in diversity, besides respecting the uniqueness of diversity of culture and religion. However, he only believed in Hindutva as a means of unity and integrity, it pointed out. And with the intent to cultivate Hindutva, NPCC said Modi had appointed RSS leaders as governors and workers, besides attacking all institutions by appointing RSS ideologues. Congress also accused BJP of terrorising its alliance partners to cow them down by giving them the choice of following it or facing NIA, CBI or ED. NPCC said BJP was the root cause of corruption as it patronised corruption, nepotism and backdoor appointments, while CBI cases were suppressed despite directives from courts.

It was formally released by Khyomo Lotha, who served as Naga Club’s caretaker between 1965 and 1969. In his opening remark, club’s finance secretary and constitution drafting committee convener Kuolachalie Seyie termed the document as the greatest gift for the Nagas from God. He said the club had constituted a drafting committee and that its draft constitution was approved during an executive meeting of the club on November 14. As an elderly organisation to be guided with certain rules and regulations, Kuolachalie explained that it was necessary for Naga Club to have its own constitution, which could be amended and restructured, when necessary. He said whosever was not affiliated to the club could do so gradually as the institution was for all Naga people. Speaking on the occasion, Khyomo said Naga Club had no

written constitution during his time. However, in those days, Naga people were very friendly, honest and truthful among themselves and all Naga tribes supported the club, he added.
