NE has moved beyond guns: PM
Says, Congress to blame for lack of development in NE
L U N G L E I , N OV 2 3 (AGENCIES): Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday accused the Congress of ignoring development in Mizoram and said that the North East has moved beyond shutdowns, guns and blockades. “The northeast has moved beyond guns, shutdowns and blockades. Today everyone is experiencing it from Itanagar to Aizawl, from Kohima to Kamrup,” he said while addressing a public meeting in the pollbound Mizoram that will be voting on November 28. PM Modi also attacked Congress leaders for calling the attire of the North East outlandish. “People in northeast in many places give me the traditional attire which is called outlandish by the Congress leaders. They speak a lot when they come here but this is their reality. I feel a deep sense of anguish, when I see the leaders of the Congress party abuse the
Don’t tag us with factions indulging in taxation: NNC D I M A P U R , N OV 2 3 (NPN): NNC (Parent Body) appealed to all concerned not to tag its name along with all such factions or groups of NNPGs indulging in tax collection. NNC (Parent Body) in a statement clarified that it never collected tax nor imposed or forced anybody– public or businesses or even the church – to pay tax as was done by various factions or groups. NNC (Parent Body) under the leadership of vice presidents Yilow Humtsoe and Zhiongba Yimchungrii and general secretary V Nagi even called for naming those factions or groups responsible for taxation, burdening the public and even the church, in public interest. Pinpoint the culprit, but not the one who had stood for the people and freedom, it demanded. Claiming that even in the past it had clarified its stand on the “serious matter” of taxation, the organisation, in a statement issued by its information & publicity wing, asserted “We love our people and freedom and never believe in taxation in the name of national workers or freedom.”

Narendra Modi speaking at the rally in Mizoram. same traditions.” “In the last four years, the BJP government at the Centre, has worked for greater recognition, and spread of Indian culture and traditions, far and wide,” he said. Appealing to the people of the state to get rid of the Congress rule, PM Modi said, “Due to the Congress government in Mizoram, people are not being able to benefit from it. In fact, the Congress government does not bother about Mizoram. “Its work culture has caused many projects to be delayed, leading to crumbling infrastructure in the state. However, the neigh-
bouring states have excellent roads,” he said. Taking a dig at the Congress, PM Modi said that the work culture of the Congress is not development. Its culture is to “delay, halt and divert...For them corruption is the medium of politics,” he alleged. Highlighting his government’s “Act East and Act Fast for India’s East” PM Modi said, “In the last four and half years, the BJP at the Centre has been working on ‘Act fast for India’s East’. And we have developed every region of the Northeast.” He also pitched the ‘transformation through
transportation’ as the BJP’s mantra for the development of the Northeast. “India’s development is possible only when this region is developed. BJP is dedicated to development of the Northeast. We are focussing on connectivity by highway, railway, airway and waterway,” he said. The Prime Minister also took a dig at the Congress for being confined to only two to three states where it is in power. “The Congress which once governed most of the Indian States is now restricted to just two or three states. Now, the people of Mizoram, have a golden opportunity to rid themselves of this Congress culture.” Describing the Congress’ policies as “divide and rule”, PM Modi said “after decades of exploitation at the hands of the Congress, it is now that the people of the country have understood their formula. For them, only the chair matters.” The 40-seat Mizoram Assembly will go to polls on November 28. Counting of votes will take place on December 11. Mizoram is the only state in the northeast where the Congress is ruling.
regard to law and order, Nagaland has completely failed to maintain public order. Therie claimed that the state government was not at all in control but that instead, the state government was “under the control of multi self-styled Governments.” He said ransom demands and kidnappings were almost daily news. Further, Therie said the state government was the last government that the people respect as it only adopted a policy to facilitate and support multi-factions, associations and unions who were allowed to collect tax. Therie said any government that did not have control over illegal activities does not deserve any award adding that instead, the state government deserved the award of “least control in law and order”.

PANAJI, NOV 23 (PTI): A movement of citizens seeking resignation of the ailing Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar has decided to protest against Governor Mridula Sinha over her “inaction” and widen the agitation, its leader said Friday. Several hundred people had marched to Parrikar’s residence near here on November 21, demanding that he resign. Opposition Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP had backed the protest. “For the last nine months Parrikar has been ailing...administration has come to a standstill. The governor, who has a constitutional responsibility to intervene in such a situation, is silently watching the whole show. Ministers are doing whatever they want,” said activist Aires Rodrigues, the
leader of the movement. “From tomorrow, it will not be just Parrikar but our target will be the inaction by governor Mridula Sinha...in a situation like this she cannot continue as mere spectator but should act and take some action so that governance returns to Goa,” he added. There will be a meeting, presided over by cardiologist Dr Francis Colaco, at Azad Maidan here Saturday evening to press for Parrikar’s resignation and decide the future course of action, he said. RTI activist Rajan Ghate is on hunger strike demanding chief minister’s resignation for the last eight days. Rodrigues said a 48hour ultimatum given to Parrikar on November 21 has expired. “Now we have decided to take the agitation
NPCC slams Patton for making mockery of Nagas before Mizos DIMAPUR, NOV 23 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) accused deputy chief minister (Home & National Highways) and BJP leader Y Patton of making a mockery of Nagas before the eyes of Mizo brethrens. In a press release issued by its media cell, NPCC said by allegedly asserting that 99% Christians in Nagaland had accepted BJP and complaining about bad roads in Mizoram he had become the subject of ridicule there, besides lowering the image of elected leaders of Nagaland. NPCC said it was hilarious to see Patton complaining about Mizoram roads after travelling 110 km that took him more than six hours. However, he had conveniently forgotten that the 75km Dimapur-Kohima route takes more than four hours, roads in Kohima like the 15-

Law & order award an insult to Nagaland: Cong D I M A P U R , N OV 2 3 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed shock at the recent award given to Nagaland for “Best Performing Small State” in the category of “Law & Order”. The award was presented by vice president of India Venkaiah Naidu to Nagaland minister C.M. Chang at the programme organised by India Today at the State of State’s Conclave 2018 at Taj Hotel New Delhi. Also holding the vice president somewhat responsible, NPCC president, K Therie alleged that Naidu also exposed his ignorance of Nagaland’s situation. Therie also criticised the action of India Today in giving the award and misleading the nation. He said that whatever may be the criteria of consideration for the award with

km Forest Colony-Secretariat takes two hours to travel, while the 20-km stretch of road from Chumoukedima to Dimapur DC office takes more than 2 hours. The dilapidated roads of Nagaland are full of mud during monsoon and dust clouds during winter, thereby portraying the miserable failure of the earlier NPF-led DAN government and continued by PDA government in the past 16 years, it said. NPCC regretted that Nagas had been disgraced by the likes of Y Patton who was unable to even maintain decent roads as minister in charge of national highways while merrily criticising the roads of Mizoram. Mentioning that the habit of BJP to shamelessly profess its hidden agenda in the guise of development had been thoroughly exposed throughout India, NPCC asked Patton
why he had dragged the name of Christians in Nagaland to defend and promote BJP when Nagas were well aware of the party’s sinister and communal agenda that thrived on bashing and humiliating dalits and religious minorities. According to NPCC, there was no denying the fact that BJP and NDPP were ruling Nagaland with corrupt money, but sustaining development propaganda was sounding hollow day by day. The party requested him to take a critical view of the State’s roads that required urgent attention rather than indulge in proclaiming lies about Christians of Nagaland and fabricating cheap propaganda to complain about a neighbouring State’s bad road conditions, forgetting about “our own pathetic roads that have made life miserable for the people of Nagaland”.

The state was liberated from Portuguese rule on the same day in 1961. “The agitation will be peaceful. We will make sure there is least inconvenience to the public,” he said. Some ministers and BJP MLAs have also assured that they will take part in the agitation, he claimed. Parrikar, suffering from a pancreatic ailment, underwent treatment in the United States for nearly three months earlier this year. He has been recuperating at his residence after being discharged from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi on October 14.
Naga Club to erect monolith at Naga National Cemetery
DIMPAUR, NOV 23 (NPN): Naga Club (NC) in a public notice, issue by its publicity committee, Centenary Celebration has decided to erect a Monolith at the Naga National Cemetery at Jotsoma at the site proposed in memory of Zasibito Nagi, the first martyr of the Naga political movement along with all Naga martyrs who have their lives for the cause of “Leave Us Along To Determine For Ourselves” as laid down by the Club’s pioneers in 1929. NC further informed that the centenary celebration will be held at Centenary ground, Baptist Church Jotsoma on November 29 at 11 a.m. NC said it decided to erect the monolith in order to avoid unnecessary confrontation and further repercussions over the issue of installation at Naga Club site with NSF where ugly incidents arose on two occasions. It said on the third attempt to install the monolith, NSF allegedly issued severe threats and even “mobilized our own children to fight against us.” The Club regretted the public declaration made at the last attempt to resolve the issue with NSF by some senior citizens on November 21 at Hotel De Oriental Kohima. The declaration states “the Naga Club with the present erection of monolith is required to undertake all future developments taking the Naga public, especially the NSF, a major stakeholder, into confidence always”. It pointed out that neither was the monolith nor the Club’s plot, the property of NSF or the club a “subordinate body of NSF” where it (Naga Club) required “consent or approval of the NSF”.
