According to a press note issued by PRO Tuensang Police, additional security forces along with police personnel of the Special Task Force (STF) have been deployed at strategic locations in and around the affected place to prevent further escalation of violence. Earlier on Wednesday, DGP Nagaland along with Commissioner of Nagaland and IGP (R) rushed to Tuensang to take stock of the situation. The officials held a prolonged meeting with the DCs and SPs of Tuensang and Noklak at C/Saddle Assam Rifles camp.
State NPP demands rollback of fuel price
D I M A P U R , N OV 1 9 (NPN): Terming the recent hike made in petrol and diesel prices by the State government as bereft of any logic, especially at a time when the State’s entire economy is in jeopardy, NPP Nagaland unit urged the government to take a matured stand on criticisms and roll back the hike. The party in a statement expressed shock that the government resorted to such an “inhuman practice” of increasing the tax on essential fuels in lieu of the COVID-19 cess that was withdrawn just recently. NPP said it was highly condemnable that instead of allaying the financial burden of the people during this Christmas season, the government resorted to (Cont’d on p-8)

Speaking to Nagaland Post over phone, superintendent of police (SP) Noklak, Pritpal Kaur Patra informed that a high level team led by the director general of police, after assessing the situation constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to be headed by SP crime, Kevithuto Sophie. The team is expected to arrive by November 20, Patra added. The situation has been brought under control as additional forces have been deployed in the sensitive areas, Patra said.
According to PRO Tuensang Police, the SIT was constituted under the orders of DGP Nagaland T. John Longkumer, to probe into the November 18 incident at Thongtsou village under Noklak district, to ensure a speedy and fair investigation. In the incident, one person was killed and another injured while several houses were also burned down. In this regard, PRO said that a criminal case has been registered at Thonoknyu police station. PRO said that the DGP had also warned that those involved in the dastardly attack would be brought to book and stern action would be taken against those found guilty, as per the law. Ex-gratia: Meanwhile, the state government, through the deputy commissioner and SP Noklak, handed over ex-gratia payment to the family of the deceased including the injured. Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) also extended financial
assistance to the affected families through their representatives. It was also reported that ENPO representatives visited the affected areas and held a series of meeting with the tribal leaders to resolve the issue amicably. The public of the area had earlier planned to take out a procession in Noklak district headquarters with the body of the victim killed in the attack. However, the plan was dropped after villagers persuaded against it. The body was then buried in the village. It may be recalled that one person was killed and several houses burned down at Thongtsou village in Noklak district by unidentified miscreants around 4.30 am on Wednesday. Sources believe that the incident may have been sparked by a long-pending land dispute. Noklak district officials along with leaders of various tribal bodies and other organisations held an emergency meeting to diffuse the situation and prevent further escalation of violence.

TRNYF demands clearance NDPP slams NPF’s of road blockade by Nov 20 ‘uncalled’ attacks
MOKOKCHUNG, NOV 19 (NPN): Tsurangkong Range Naga Youth Front (TRNYF) has served an ultimatum on both the governments of Nagaland and Assam, to intervene and clear the “illegal highway blockade by miscreants” by 6 a.m. of November 20. In a statement, TRNYF interim president Bendangwati and interim secretary Shiluyongdang stated that the economic blockade imposed by some unknown miscreants from Assam has affected the economic lifeline of Nagaland viz. N.H.- 702,(D). They warned that if the blockade was not cleared, then TRNYF will be compelled to take its own course of action and for which both state governments will be held responsible for any untoward incident. TRNYF further demanded that the two state governments resolve boundary issue at the earliest. It reminded that “Tsurangkong Range under Mokokchung district is our ancestral land and the traditional boundary cannot be altered in any manner.” However, TRNYF alleged that unknown miscreants, with the tacit support of Assam government, had imposed total blockade, to force Nagaland government to buckle under pressure and part away with the land. TRNYF therefore, reiterated: “we will not agree to any decision which is detrimental to our ancestral rights.” It also reminded all that the prevailing event at Aosenden village should not be construed as a border issue/dispute between the two states, adding the village “has been our land since time immemorial D I M A P U R , N OV 1 9 and vehemently condemns the involvement of public (NPN): The deputy com- in issues concerning state governments.” missioner (DC) Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, has informed that those organising weddings and social events should apply to the District Task Force at least two weeks prior to the date of event so that necessary inspections regarding COVID19 protocols and SOPs could be conducted and permission granted for the same.

DIMAPUR, NOV 19 (NPN): Welcoming the State government’s decision to increase the tax levied on petrol, diesel and other lubricants and announcing its support to any initiative of the PDA government to help increase the State’s revenue, NDPP has castigated NPF for its “uncalled” attacks on chief minister Neiphiu Rio and the government over non issues and demanding rollbacks of government decisions. In a statement, party’s Media & Communication Committee secretary David Neikha said NPF should realise that the people had mandated NDPP-led PDA government to govern Nagaland and that the “people’s government” did not need the opposition party’s approval to make decisions. He asked NPF to be more concerned on the direction it was heading as the “oldest regional party” could not even field a candidate in the recent by-election to 60 PungroKiphire Assembly constituency as their secretary general himself pointed out “there were no takers for NPF ticket”.
