DIMAPUR, NOV 9 (NPN): A day after the second anniversary of the demonetisation, the members of the Congress party Friday staged dharna against de(Cont’d on p-7) monetisation in the state. NPCC stated that the dharna was to remind the people of the “cruel joke and fraud perpetrated on the nation by BJP.” On November 8, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a ban on Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denomination bank notes. Holding placards against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, some of which read “PM Modi please give answers” “Why did you rob common people?” “Why did you steal the money of common people?” “A little knowledge these Where is your achhe din?” days makes all food Where are your promised unsafe. after the government increased the commission paid to LPG dealers. A 14.2kg subsidised LPG cylinder in Delhi will now cost Rs 507.42 as against Rs 505.34 previously, according to a price notification of stateowned fuel retailers. This followed an order of the oil ministry that raised the dealer’s commission. In that order, the ministry said the domestic LPG distributors’ commission for 14.2-kg cylinder and 5-kg cylinder was last fixed at Rs 48.89 and Rs 24.20 respectively in September 2017. “Pending finalisation of De-Novo Study for revision of LPG distributors’ commission and taking into consideration the increase in transportation costs, wages etc, it has been decided to revise the distributors’ commission to Rs 50.58 per 14.2 Domestic cooking gas kg cylinder and Rs 25.29 per LPG prices have been hiked 5 kg cylinder as an interim by over Rs 2 per cylinder measure,” the order said. Committee chairman Vanlalruata said the EC team agreed to the body’s demand to remove Shashank as CEO of Mizoram immediately. The team also agreed to stick to the commitment made by the poll panel in April 2014 that Bru voters who are staying in Tripura would exercise their franchise in Mizoram and not in the relief camps of that state, he said. Thousands of Br u community members had fled Mizoram in October 1997 after ethnic clashes and have been living in camps in Tripura since then. The EC team, however, refused to make any commitment on revoking the transfer order of former principal secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo and restore him in his position in Mizoram, he said. Shashank, who was being seen by the civil so-
ciety as a Bru sympathiser, had allegedly complained to the EC that Chuaungo was interfering with the poll process in Mizoram where election to its 40-member Assembly is slated for November 28. The EC team also met members of the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), which is a conglomerate of leaders of major churches in the state, and those of the IAS officers association which included several serving and retired bureaucrats. They would visit Champhai district, on the Mizoram-Myanmar border, Saturday and hold discussions with the Deputy Commissioner Naveen Agrawal, before returning to Delhi. Meanwhile, as many as 211 contestants have filed their nominations for the election to the 40-member Mizoram Legislative Assembly.
NSCN (I-M) warns of action against illegal activities
NPF ridicules achievement claims by Rio
DIMAPUR, NOV 9 (NPN): NSCN (I-M) UT has warned of initiating action against those committing all immoral and illegal activities in and around Dimapur. In a press note, MIP stated that despite several warnings many individuals/groups were involved in immoral/illegal activities such as drinking and partying late at night, loitering in public places like the state stadium, Agri Expo and public grounds, gambling, fraud, extortion and kidnapping Further, UT-I directed all restaurants and bootleggers to close their shops by 9 p.m. to avoid unpleasant situation. NSCN (I-M) has also sought full cooperation from all concerned including GBs, colony chairmen and village elders “in combating such unwanted activities for a better Naga society.”
D I M A P U R , N OV 9 (NPN): NPF has ridiculed the list of achievements provided by chief minister Neiphiu Rio at NDPP’s third general convention at Kohima on Thursday. In a press release issued by its press bureau, the opposition party asserted that, contrary to Rio’s claim, the ground reality was different. It said the chief minister’s claim of ending VIP culture had become a joke and that Nagas could not be taken for a ride or fooled any further. NPF said the Nagas were witness to how the PDA government had appointed their kith and kin to various government undertakings and passed statutes that imposed “unnecessary burden” on the State exchequer. The opposition party alleged that, not contended with these, the PDA government was talking

about good governance and transparency and promised to provide good roads within 30 and 60 days that stretched to 100 days. The government declared that all district roads would be repaired, but the promised good roads had gone down the drain along with change of seasons, it added. Taking a dig at Rio’s assertion that all government teachers were mapped digitally to maintain transparency, NPF advised him to pay their salary regularly and look into their wellbeing, instead of mapping them digitally, as they were the backbone of a strong society and deserved to be treated well. NPF further asked Rio to stop fooling the Nagas with his statement on Naga integration issue as he had already shown his true colour when he allegedly declared loud and clear that Naga integration was
no longer possible after his meeting with Union home minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi. It said his government’s reaffirmation to uphold integration of all Naga contiguous inhabited areas under one administrative unit was misleading. Scoffing at the launch of pink buses in Dimapur, which was also in the list of PDA government’s achievements, NPF observed that there was no point providing pink buses to women in Nagaland as “our Naga women” felt more secure and protected travelling alongside men unlike other cities and States across the country. It reminded the government to look into women’s reservation issue that was lying dormant for reasons best known to it, rather than providing pink buses for women to travel on precarious bumpy roads.
