Need for an early solution: Dr. Liezietsu pete with other peoples of the country,” he said. “Each one of us needs to contribute our best to see that our problem (Naga political issue) is solved once and for all, each one of us has a role. If there is no peace, there cannot be progress and development,” he said echoing his party’s slogan of Development for Peace, Peace for Development.

Aadhaar data of 13 cr, bank account details leaked, says report M U M B A I , M AY 2 (Agencies): Aadhaar numbers of over 13 crore people and bank account details of about 10 crore of them have been leaked through government portals owing to poor security practices, putting these people at risk of financial frauds as well as identity thefts. According to a report published by The Center for Internet and Society, four government websites namely those run by National Social Assistance Programme under Ministry of Rural Development, National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) run by Ministry of Rural Development, Daily Online Payment Reports under NREGA (Govt. of Andhra Pradesh) and Chandranna Bima Scheme run by Government of Andhra Pradesh combined were responsible for publicly exposing personal and Aadhaar details of over 13 crore citizens. While these numbers are only from two major government programmes of pensions and rural employment schemes, other major schemes that have also used Aadhaar for DBT could have leaked PII similarly due to lack of information security practices, the report warns.

guest in the occasion of Moatsü, the premier festival of the Ao Nagas. The festival this year had a unique feature wherein for the first time in the history of Moatsü festival, the Ao community had invited the Angami community to take part in the festival. Over a thousand Angami tribesmen clad in their unique cultural attires joined in the celebrations. The celebration was a significant and a historic one as it marked a new era of peace and unity among various communities in the state. The celebration was held under the ae-

gis of Ao Senden with the participation of APO. The APO represented by all four ranges numbering around 1200 members attended the celebration today. The celebration was also graced by APO president Dr. Vilhusa Seleyi as guest of honour. In the historic occasion, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu lamented that the society including the Naga political groups were fragmented. “Let’s do our best to be in a position of a civilised state because fighting for supremacy in a family can never help a family to move ahead and it can never com-

On the occasion, presidents of APO and Ao Senden also issued a joint resolution wherein both the apex bodies agreed to: 1. Work for peace, tranquillity and integrity of all the Nagas. 2. It is our steadfast endeavour to approach all the tribal bodies to renew the effort to unify our people. We must shed our tolerant ego and tribalistic character that has plagued our people and society. The inherent spirit of love that man should love his neighbors as himself is the approach towards a brighter future of our people. 3. With conviction, we also recognize that our unity is the only process to bring healing and development. 4. Nagas are one and can never be otherwise. And believe that building bridges towards internal peace is the first essential step for achieving long term and sustainable peace in Nagaland. 5. It is an established fact that our political situation is at a very complex state which requires all Naga communities to give effort towards finding solution to the many issues and challenges our society is wrestling with. In this regard, the apex bodies said that “this festival embodies the fostering of unity of Nagas beyond Ao Senden and APO.”

Nagaland to get 4 new ITIs Spl. Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MAY 2 (NPN): Nagaland has proposed setting up of four Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state in addition to its earlier allocation of two ITIs by the centre. The proposal was forwarded to Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) Rajiv Pratap Rudy when advisor, department of Treasuries & Accounts, Relief & Rehabilitation, T.M. Lotha called on the former at Delhi on Tuesday. On the proposal on new ITIs, the union minister said that Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will take step to establish the two additional ITIs. It may be noted that Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has formulated a scheme titled “Enhancing skill development infrastructure in NE States and Sikkim” to set up 22 new ITIs in the North Eastern region. Out of the 22

new ITIs, five have been allocated to the State of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh will have four ITIs, Tripura and Mizoram will have three, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya will have two each and Sikkim will have one ITI. A statement from the ministry, said that two ITIs were covered under up-gradation and five ITIs under Supplementing Deficient Infrastructure in Nagaland. An amount of Rs. 1149.47 lakh has been released for this purpose, the statement said. However, since there was no ITIs in Longleng and Kiphire, the proposal has been made. At the meeting, T.M. Lotha and union minister also discussed the progress of work in the state of Nagaland under the scheme “Enhancing Skill Development Infrastructure in NE States & Sikkim” and other schemes under skill development mission. They also discussed about the current on ground situation of setting up of skill development institutions in Nagaland.

We will respond to Pak at a time and place of our choosing: Army NEW DELHI, MAY 2 (AGENCIES): Pakistan will have to face the consequences of mutilating bodies of two Indian soldiers and the Army will respond to the dastardly act at a time and place of its choosing, Vice-Chief of Army Staff Sarath Chand said on Tuesday. He said the killing of the two soldiers and beheading them showed frustration of the Pakistan military and asserted that it will never be able to justify the action. “I do not want to say what we will do. Instead of speaking, we will focus on our action at a time and place of our choosing,” he told reporters. He was replying to questions on possible retaliation by the Indian Army over the Pakistani action. “They (Pakistani army) have said it was not done by their forces. Then who did it. Their people came to our area and did it. They will have to take responsibility and face consequences for it,” Chand said. Earlier in the day, the Indian Army told the Pakistani military that mutilating bodies of the two soldiers

was a “dastardly and inhuman act” which called for a response and unequivocal condemnation. Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen AK Bhatt spoke to his Pakistan counterpart and expressed “grave concern” about the killing and beheading of the two soldiers in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. “The DGMO of the Indian Army conveyed that such a dastardly and inhuman act is beyond any norms of civility and merits unequivocal condemnation and response,” the Army said in a statement. The DGMO also conveyed to his Pakistani counterpart that “full fire” support was provided by the Pakistani army post located in the vicinity of the incident site. The Indian Army has already vowed an “appropriate” response to the “despicable act”. The Pakistan army has denied that it was involved in the attack. Defence Minister Arun Jaitley had said+ on Monday that the “sacrifice (of the two killed) will not go in

vain” and the Indian armed forces will react “appropriately” to the “inhuman act” of the Pakistani troops. “This is a reprehensible and an inhuman act. Such attacks don’t even take place during war, let alone during peace time. Bodies of soldiers being mutilated is an extreme form of barbaric act,” the defence minister said. Discussing the issue during the hotline contact between the two DGMOs, the Pakistan Army asked India to produce “actionable evidence” on its claim that a Pakistani special forces team had sneaked across the LoC and beheaded the two Indian security personnel. “Pakistan rejected India’s allegations of ceasefire violation and mutilation of bodies of Indian soldiers,” the army statement said. “The Pakistan army is a professional military outfit and upholds the highest standards of conduct. Allegations of mutilation are an Indian attempt to divert the attention of world from situation within the Kashmir valley,” Pakistan DGMO Maj Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza claimed.

Border fencing illegal encroachment: Longon

DC Dmu directs Aadhaar centres

Staff Reporter

D I M A P U R , M AY 2 (NPN): Dimapur district administration has noted that a number of unauthorised Aadhaar enrolment centres have come up in the district without prior approval of the government charging huge amount of money from the citizens and also capturing Biometric for those without proper documents such as suspected IBIs and also residents of Assam. In this regard, the deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Kseonyu Yhome, has directed all such Aadhaar enrolment centres to obtain permission from the state registrar and commissioner Nagaland. Further, DC has requested all the citizens of Dimapur to report to the authority if any such centres were operating in the locality as Aadhaar enrolment was supposed to be free (except for correction).

DIMAPUR, MAY 2 (NPN): Nagaland minister for Health and Family Welfare (H&FW), P. Longon, on Tuesday termed as “illegal encroachment” the border fencing work at Pangsha, under Tuensang district. He contended that since Nagaland and its land were protected by Article 371A of the Indian Constitution, the government of India should have consulted the landowners before undertaking such activities. The minister made this remark while addressing the 19th General Conference of the Eastern Nagaland Gazetted Officers’ Association (ENGOA) here at Niathu Resort Tuesday as chief guest. Longon, who hails from Pangsha, asserted that the boundary issue could be between two sovereign nations -- India and Myanmar, but Nagaland was an exception under Article 371A. Therefore, he said that the landowners should have been consulted prior to taking up the fencing project. On the occasion, the minister also expounded on the role

P. Longon (NP)

and importance of Eastern Naga Peoples Organisation (ENPO) in addressing various issues plaguing the Eastern Nagas. While appreciating ENPO, Longon reiterated the need to strengthen the apex body of Eastern Nagaland. Further, the minister also pointed out that unity was a prerequisite for peace, development and progress in the area. He also likened the four Eastern Nagaland bodies as a family: ENPO-father, ENGOA-mother, ENWO-daughter and ENSF-son, with ENLU being the “peon”. In his speech, ENPO presi-

dent, S Khoiwang, who graced the occasion as guest of honour, maintained that ENPO derived power from ENGOA, terming the latter as “backbone” of ENPO and its federating units. He also sought suggestions and advice from the ENGOA on various issues, including the International border issue. Khoiwang also reminded ENGOA that it has a huge responsibility -- an indispensible role -- towards uplift of the area. ENWO president, Birila Tokiu, and ENSF president, Sepili L. Sangtam, who were the special guests of the occasion also spoke at the function. Earlier, ENGOA president, Er. S. Changkei Konyak, in his presidential address, said that jealousy, ignorance about joy of giving and selfishness would only bring destruction. He also underlined the role and responsibility of ENGOA to guide its people. During the conference, the N.I Jamir Award for excellence in government service in Eastern Nagaland was also presented. The inaugural function was followed by a business session.

Fruits you should never have together Internal rift within AAP fold widens NEW DELHI, MAY 2 (AGENCIES): We all think that a bowl of fruits and vegetables is the best kind of meal one can have. We chop all the fruits and salad vegetables that our refrigerator has, squeeze a lime, add a dash of salt and we believe it to be the healthiest ever. But is this the right way to go about it? Acidic, sweet or neutral - If this isn’t how you categorize your fruits when combining them, you need a lesson in how to go about your salads. First of all, you shouldn’t mix fruits and vegetables with each other. Second of all, you shouldn’t even combine certain fruits with each other. This basically depends on the speed of digestion of different fruits and vegetables. Many permutations that you are making are perhaps hindering optimal digestion and assimilation. Here’s how you can decide what to pull

in that bowl of yours the next time. Have melons with melons: Melons are celibates. They never pair up with anyone else. Have them by themselves as they may not digest well with any other fruit. This is because they digest faster than most other fruits owing to their high water content. Avoid mixing your watermelons, muskmelons, cantaloupe and honeydews with other fruits. Never have acidic/sub acidic with sweet fruits: Try not to mix acidic fruits, such as grapefruits and strawberries, or sub-acidic foods such as apples, pomegranates and peaches, with sweet fruits, such as bananas and raisins for a better digestion. However, you can mix acidic with sub-acidic fruits. For a similar reason, you should not mix guavas and bananas. Some studies claim that the duo can even

increase your chances of nausea, acidosis and headaches. Never have fruits with vegetables: Fruits and vegetables digest differently. Fruits have a quicker pace of digestion and in fact, many nutritionists say that they are partially digested by the time they reach the stomach. Also, fruits have more sugar content, something that can hinder the digestive process of vegetables. For the same reason, one shouldn’t mix orange with carrot as when taken together, they may cause heartburn and excess bile reflux. Never mix starchy with high protein: Only a few fruits are starchy in nature. These include green bananas and plantains. But there are many vegetables that are starchy in nature, such as corns, potatoes, cowpeas, black-eyed peas

and water chestnuts. You should never mix them with high protein fruits and vegetables such as raisins, guava, spinach and broccoli. This is because your body needs an acidic base to digest proteins and an alkaline base to digest starches.

4 quick fruit fixes

Consume between 4 to 6 fruits at one time. If you have had a lot of proteins, have papaya the next morning as it contains papain to break it down. If you have over-eaten salt, have a waterbased fruit, like watermelon, the next morning to flush out the salt. If you have had excess carbs, like pasta, have apple the next morning as your body needs to work out more to break the complex carbs that an apple contains. This helps prevent bloating which may otherwise be caused by simple carbs like the ones in pasta.

NEW DELHI, MAY 2 (AGENCIES): Rift within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seems to be widening by the day with war of words between its leaders refusing to die down. On one hand, AAP founder member Kumar Vishwas on Tuesday accused its leaders of conspiring against him and said he won’t compromise with his principles and will soon take a call on his future action. “I know I will be targeted. The efforts to tarnish my image will be made. But let me tell those conspirators that I will not allow you to do so,” Kumar Vishwas told reporters without taking any name. He denied that he wanted to be the convenor of AAP. “I have already said 10 times and even to Arvind (Kejriwal) and Manish (Sisodia) and the party that I don’t want to be the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief

Minister or the Convenor,” he said. Kumar Vishwas also said that he would not join any political party or the Swaraj Aandolan. Kumar Vishwas broke down while talking to reporters and said, “I don’t know why you are here but I had not joined the movement for this.” On the other hand, Delhi deputy chief Minister Manish Sisodia slammed senior Vishwas for making statements in the media over the ongoing infighting within the party in the wake of its civic polls debacle. Sisodia said that Vishwas was making remarks on television which was “lowering” the morale of party workers. “No one in the party asked Kumar Vishwas to apologise. He made it personal. The party does not belong to Arvind (Kejriwal), to me or to Kumar (Vishwas) but it belongs to lakhs of workers in India and

abroad,” Sisodia told reporters at Kejriwal’s residence, as per IANS. . “I along with Sanjay Singh had gone to meet him. He did not come to the PAC yesterday (Monday). He is making remarks in the media which is lowering the morale of party cadre and everyone knows who is getting benefited,” Sisodia said. M e a n w h i l e, A A P MLA Amanatullah Khan resigned yesterday from the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the party following a high-end meeting of the party members with Vishwas conspicuously absent. Khan, while emerging out of the PAC meeting, had categorically named Kumar Vishwas as been “planted by the BJP and the RSS” to disbalance the party. “Vishwas ate cake with Ajit Doval and Bassi when AAP MLAs were arrested,” he had said, as per ANI. I M P H A L , M ay 2 : Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh Tuesday evening assured enhanced security for oil tankers and transporters for the safety of drivers and handymen. During a meeting with the agitating All Manipur Pe t r o l e u m P r o d u c t s Drivers’ Association and All Manipur Petroleum Products Transporters’ Association, the chief minister appealed the two associations to call off their steering-down stir while assuring enhanced security. He said that a dedicated 24X7 hotline number (0385-2450214) will be opened at DGP’s office from tomorrow to attend the calls of transporters and drivers of oil tankers, LPG bullet tankers and trucks operating service on the national highways in case of any emergency. Another hotline mobile number having Whatsapp facility will

also be activated soon, he assured. Biren further informed the drivers that the state government would open life insurance accounts for the drivers and handymen of inflammable trucks carrying petroleum products, for which the annual premium would be bor ne by the state government. Moreover, the state government would also provide ex-gratia and job to the next of kin of the drivers and handymen, who lost life due to militant or anti-social element attack in the line of duty, he added. On the other hand, petrol filling stations in Imphal city and its outskirt witnessed a mad r ush on Tuesday fearing fuel scarcity after oil tanker drivers under the banner of All Manipur Petroleum P r o d u c t s a n d D r ive r Association (AMPPDA) resorted to cease work strike after attack on an oil tanker convoy at

Ninety per cent of the native people do not have myadi patta (permanent land settlement), they have either eksonia patta (annual land settlement) or are occupying government land,” said Brahma. The committee also found that many natives of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Majuli districts, whose forefathers lost their land in the earthquake of 1950, own neither land nor documents. The committee has also been mandated to review the British-era Assam Land and Revenue Regulation Act, 1886 and suggest measures for its modification. Sonowal, while deciding to set up the committee, had said the government was taking steps to formulate a new land policy because “without land there can be no existence of the Assamese race and it is the government’s fundamental duty to protect the land of the original dwellers of the state and no compromise would be made in this regard”.

TARN TARAN/NEW DELHI, MAY 2 (AGENCIES): The mortal remains of Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh, who was killed in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, were consigned to flames with full military honours at his native Vainpoin village on Tuesday. The 42-year-old soldier, who belonged to the army’s 22 Sikh Infantry, was beheaded yesterday by Pakistani troops, who similarly mutilated the body of Head Constable Prem

Sagar of the BSF’s 200th Battalion. “The nation is with the families of the soldiers who lost their lives in ceasefire violation by the Pakistan army,” said minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju while paying tribute to the two martyred soldiers. He was speaking to reporters after attending Sagar’s wreath laying ceremony at Delhi airport. His body is being taken to his village in Uttar Pradesh. A large number of mourners from Paramjeet’s

village and surronding areas, besides his family and friends, paid their last respects to him in Punjab. Senior army officers and those from the civil administration were also present as buglers sounded the ‘Last Post’ and the slain soldier was accorded a gun salute. His body was wrapped in the tricolour and brought for cremation in a bedecked vehicle. The last rites were held up for a few moments as his relatives remained adamant that they be shown the body. They went ahead with the ceremony after persuasion by civil and army officials.

A Pakistani special forces team had yesterday sneaked 250 metres across the Line of Control (LoC) into the Poonch sector and beheaded the two Indian security personnel. Singh is survived by his aged parents Udham Singh and Gurinder Kaur, wife Paramjit Kaur and three minor children - daughters Simardeep Kaur and Khushdeep Kaur, and son Sahildeep Singh, who are aged between 11 and 14. Shocked by the demise of the soldier, who was to arrive at his village a week later on holiday, his family and friends has demanded a befitting reply be given to to Pakistan

Aadhaar needed to curb use of fake PAN cards

New Delhi, MAY 2 (AGENCIES): The Union government on Tuesday defended in the Supreme Court its decision to make Aadhaar mandatory for issuing a PAN card, saying it was done to curb the use of fake PAN cards across the country. Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi told a Bench comprising Justices A.K. Sikri and Ashok Bhushan that the programme of PAN had become suspect as it could be faked, while Aadhaar is a “secure and robust” system by which the identity of an individual cannot be faked.

True value

ny culture that can survive the vicissitudes of challenging times shows it has succeeded in strengthening its basic foundation of character and evolution of ideas and come out on top. Even as celebrations of tribal festivals will dot the annual calendar in the state, there is no getting away from the factual perception that various tribes do tend to throw up more of sound and sight. Today, if there are views that society is fragmented along tribe or political or other lines; it is because the core of embracing changes through the intrinsic character has almost disappeared. The bitter truth of life is that people cannot change the practice but what they can is to re-cultivate a new culture. The new culture demands that the core traditional character of being fearless for what is fair and right, stand up for peace and justice. Peace cannot be achieved by mere prayer or demands but only through a simple act of forgiveness without condition. This is a self healing process that prevents the spread of the cancer to others. There is too much greed where wealth has blinded people, pride and ego has numbed their senses and where money and not God is the focus of love. While culture reflects the core values of any community, it is unfortunate that it is being used as a weapon to prevent the need for all-round development. Under the name of culture and other traditions, today it is a stumbling block along the path of all round progress. It is also unfair and incorrect to blame all the current ills on western culture. People should not blame the devil for crimes they commit and so should not blame western culture for choosing to be wayward. If people ape what is bad and reject what is good, then they ought to examine themselves more closely. Reams can be written on this subject but the point that needs to be pondered is to understand where things have gone wrong and how to correct the total drift. The popular desire among people of any society, is for development. Naga traditional values had propelled a primitive race into modernity because the first generation literates were genuine in their quest. They knew their limitations and worked on improvement. Contemporary society in Nagaland faces several dilemmas that stem from the conceptual philosophy of religion and renaissance of political and cultural ideology. Of all, the absence of work culture and professionalism can be blamed on the promotion of political patronage (PPP) which has legitimized the spoon feeding syndrome. Every notion and concept has to be developed and sustained over the decades or even centuries but unfortunately for the Naga people the concept of development continues to be barraged by the negative aspects of their politics. People of every race or nation throughout the world are proud of their unique identity or history and the pride is sustained by a sense of responsibility to build a strong foundation for sustenance. Perhaps there is need to accept the need to talk about development and progress through the prism of culture. Even as there are celebrations of festivals, may wisdom also dawn upon people that they have a past which attest the greatest values on truth and honest work.

DailyDevotion The Patience To Wait for the Vision Though it tarries, wait for it… —Habakkuk 2:3 Patience is not the same as indifference; patience conveys the idea of someone who is tremendously strong and able to withstand all assaults. Having the vision of God is the source of patience because it gives us God’s true and proper inspiration. Moses endured, not because of his devotion to his principles of what was right, nor because of his sense of duty to God, but because he had a vision of God. “…he endured as seeing Him who is invisible” (Hebrews 11:27). A person who has the vision of God is not devoted to a cause or to any particular issue— he is devoted to God Himself. You always know when the vision is of God because of the inspiration that comes with it. Things come to you with greatness and add vitality to your life because everything is energized by God. He may give you a time spiritually, with no word from Himself at all, just as His Son experienced during His time of temptation in the wilderness. When God does that, simply endure, and the power to endure will be there because you see God. “Though it tarries, wait for it….” The proof that we have the vision is that we are reaching out for more than we have already grasped. It is a bad thing to be satisfied spiritually. The psalmist said, “What shall I render to the Lord…? I will take up the cup of salvation…” (Psalm 116:12-13). We are apt to look for satisfaction within ourselves and say, “Now I’ve got it! Now I am completely sanctified. Now I can endure.” Instantly we are on the road to ruin. Our reach must exceed our grasp. Paul said, “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on…” (Philippians 3:12). If we have only what we have experienced, we have nothing. But if we have the inspiration of the vision of God, we have more than we can experience. Beware of the danger of spiritual relaxation.

Post-mortem

Let us refrain ourselves from any An opinion for political parties that affect our faith cottage industry P B usiness is about meeting the needs of a customer by using resources to make goods and services that they will buy. To start up any kind of business certain resources are needed, this involves: 1) Land- the location to operate the business from 2) Labour-human efforts to produce goods or provide services 3) Capital-equipment and machinery 4) Enterprise-risk taking and decision making by an entrepreneur To make the business successful, there are certain roles and characteristics that a successful entrepreneur follows. These are; 1) Committed; setting up a new business is not for lazy people 2) Quality leaders: employees need to be well motivated for example, to attract new customers 3) Innovative: many successful new business offer “something different and low price.” 4) Multi-skilled: there are many different jobs to do in a new business. 5)Self confident: believing in their own business ideas and abilities.

the Christians who worship the “Uncaused Cause” (the Uncreated Creator) and the “Unmoved Mover” who is identical with the God of the Bible. Without observance of any one of these three days (Christmas, Good Friday, & Easter Sunday), the others become disconnected. Out of 365/366 days in a year, Christians observe only three days in a year which are inevitable. In a secular country such as India, we are to respect each other’s faith if we are to live in harmony. It is possible when every citizen of India respects the constitution of India and abides by it. The constitution of India beautifully states the right to freedom of religion which is guaranteed under Articles 15 & 25. While the sentiments of the Christians in India are being hurt by the unacceptable attitude of the present BJP led-government towards the Christians, the news article titled, “Dr. S.C. Jamir is RSS candidate for Vice President, says top Pracharak,” that appeared in the Nagaland Post on April 18, 2017 (P. 1), disturbs the hearts and the minds of many Christians in Nagaland. According to the editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica, “The RSS presents itself as a cultural, not a political organization, that nevertheless advocates a Hindu nationalistic agenda under the

banner of hindutva, or “Hinduness” If BJP is to promote RSS in our land in the name of development, let us prayerfully and seriously think before we are misled by money and opportunities offered by the BJP led-government, because BJP is the political wing of RSS. Money looks beautiful and powerful; status and position look attractive and admirable. But they are temporal. While enjoying the beauty and power of money, status and position, let us not forsake the Creator who provides eternal life. And also let us not put up our people to such sacrifice for one’s personal temporal wants. In other words, if there are any political parties that go against the Creator, let us refrain from such parties. If “politics” is instituted by God for the welfare of His people, let us look to Him for all our political affairs and not to any political parties that displease Him- the Creator. If not we will be like Judas Iscariot who betrayed his Master for a small amount of money and ended his life in a horrific manner! God does not want us to be like Judas Iscariot. Let us remember what our God wants us to be. Let us listen to Him. Let us obey God rather than human authorities when human authorities go against God. God bless India! Rev. J. Thungjamo Lotha

Democracy to mockcracy in Nagaland

D

emocracy is claimed to be one of the best strategy against corruption and other evil practices against the will of an individual. Though a widely accepted definition of Democracy is not available, it is often seen as the system of governance that provides for greater participation of the citizens in the processes of the elected government, ensured by constitutional rights and freedoms inclusive of speech and expression with the paramount expression in the form of adult franchise guaranteeing the right to vote. These declarations extol the virtues of democracy, even if they are defied in actions. Democracy in our state of Nagaland is like the beautiful portrait hanging on the walls of a long corridor of proud history of self-determination and affirmation, but hardly ever notices by people passing by; the allure neglected and lost. Isn’t the spirit of democracy threatened in Nagaland? We need not

6) Risk takers: new ideas are often more successful than copying others. * Enterpreneur is someone who takes the financial risk of starting and managing a new business venture So, the main point is, there was a certain Bank in the past , directing some of the Entrepreneur where and which district they should open their cottage Industry if they are getting loan and subsidy through organisation for e.g.like PMEGP . Take for an example , an Entrepreneur from Meluri wants to set up a Candle Industry as most homes at the villages lack regular supply of electricity. But the Banks seeing that a place like Meluri is not convenient for them , tries to entice an entrepreneur from Meluri to set up their business either in Kohima or Dimapur. Banks should not forget that encouraging the upcoming entrepreneur to set up their business at the right location should be their top priority .By doing this They are not only helping an entrepreneur but indirectly helping the people in the villages and also people with modest income. Anita Ezung

olitics, when looked at from the Christian perspective, is a gift of God. It is a gift of God because it was instituted by Him for the welfare of His people, the people who are created by Him (Gen. 1: 26 & 27). But when misused it becomes evil. Its impact is greater when political systems, created by people for themselves for their own benefit, go against God- the Creator. Therefore the Bible emphatically exhorts us saying, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2: 15). This verse talks about the system created by man for themselves which is against God. One may ask the question, why has the present BJP ledgovernment declared Dec. 25 as “Good Governance Day”? And again “Digital India Day” on “Good Friday”? The initiative undertaken by the center to observe such days are good in themselves. But out of the 365/366 days why is there an utmost necessity for it to be observed only on the days highlighted above? We have enough of days in a year, so why on “Christmas Day”, a great day observed by the Christians all over the world, and again on “Good Friday”. “Good Friday” as we know is yet another very significant day for

cite examples of the similar shame elsewhere in the country. Let’s reflect about our own state and challenge the vested interests behind the status-quo and challenge the idea of free, fair and informed election processes followed here. I do not need to mention my particular local ward, or the assembly constituency; I have witnessed all the possible unfair and corrupt practices of election in the forms of bribery, muscle-power, voterigging, bogus-voting etc. which is the same across the state. Some of these unfair and evil practices that are hallmark of our democracy challenges various moral, economic and social obligations 1. The drive to win Employing money as well as muscle power to win elections at any cost, cuts a deep wound in our democracy. In a state which runs a deficit-budget with a blanket ban on alcohol, lakhs are spent to lure voters with bribes, alcohol and even drugs. The society

at large has become slaves to these temporary gains received from the politicians, and ignores the greater malaise that plagues us in the field of public services and infrastructure. Those who refuse to be bribed, are threatened with life or damage of property until they current their vote to the party. In such circumstances, where is the individual’s right to vote according to their own choice? The irony and the worst part is the young who are either leading or part of such groups with malicious behaviour are mostly the so called ‘educated’ , graduates and what not degree holders. 2. Politicians’ return on investments After the elections are over, the elected representatives are more concerned about recovering the expenses of his election campaign sidelining their promises to work for the welfare and development of the people and the society. The budgetary allocation for various

schemes and projects are pocketed by these leaders to recover their investments to win the election. This has resulted into the sorry state-of-affairs of various departments that should have led the way to better Human Development Index in Nagaland. The state budget shows overexpenditure for various projects even though we hardly see tangible evidence with regard to our roads, public hospitals or electricity, among other essential services. Some of the money is perhaps even saved for the next election campaign. While we constantly speak of the corruption of various politicians on social media, seldom do we ask who votes for them and why? 3. Clan and village politics Another ravishing factor that takes away an individual’s Freedom of Choice and Right to Vote. The self-exonerating traditional bodies comprising elders of clan or village at times compel the voter to cast their vote for a particular

candidate. An individual’s ‘spirit of democracy’ shall never be overwritten by our chauvinist attitudes. While some may be too timid to decide for themselves, those who wish to make a more informed choice after checking the candidate’s credibility and accountability should not be deterred from exercising their right. We should be gratified to have a good leader from our village rather than be content with a selfish or corrupt person representing us. We should be able to separate jingoism from our patriotism while electing leaders. It’s a collective societal shame when we overlook lack of credibility and weaknesses by using forced means or various ‘ism’ to justify our actions. 4. Covetousness:It will never be a hyperbole to say that some few people give huge amount of money to the candidates and later are endowed by the Elected Representatives with counterfeit projects for infrastructure or whatsoever development. On the other hand, during the

Dimapur- A trendsetter

s years pass by trends, culture, lifestyle and the people around us change, such a change has been observed in the small yet quickly developing district of Dimapur. Beautiful as it is, Dimapur has proved its existence by marking its place as the commercial hub of Nagaland. With the growth of the latest fashion trends supported by the opening up of places such as West Side, Van Heusen, and Indian Terrain to the most profiting industries which includes KFC, Domino’s etc, Dimapur is growing at an unstoppable velocity. This development is evident in the various spheres of the Naga society which includes the youth who strive for excellence. Young artists including Stand- Up comedians like the well known Hopong Naga, display their talent on local platforms as well as social media. These talented artists are in a way endorsing their own homeland onto a higher level which in turn results in the progress of the state itself. With the increasing likes and views on sites like Facebook, In-

stagram and the global forum- YouTube, the youths of Nagaland especially Dimapur are encouraged to put more effort in creating an identity of their own, another essential quality that adds up to the undeniable progress of Dimapur is the acceptance of globalisation and westernisation, the talent that is discovered, the new lifestyle or the different type of culture/ cults that are witnessed is not disregarded by the public. They accept new things and most importantly the people are open to change, it is also known that not everyone is provided with acceptance and equality but as modernism hits- these matters go through diverse stages of positive change. Dimapur has stood as the epitome of modernity and globalisation in Nagaland, sending out and receiving in of talents and progressive issues has been recorded to be the highest in Dimapur comparing to the other 10 districts. There is a circulation of resources which enables the perfect growth of the district, this give and take procedure makes everything accessible for the public and creates its

impact drastically. The trendsetting wave of wearing bandage dresses, contoured make up, graffiti art, beat boxing has been on the rise lately and it has also received tremendous feedback of positivity which helps in promoting the interest of youth again. The achievement of these young citizens of Dimapur does not end only in the field of lights, sparkle and action but it rather dives into Entrepreneurship. Upcoming business professionals are paving their way through economic status and have raised the bar of the commerce strata in the society, with the introduction of beautiful and bursting tastes, cafes such as Café Bae, Café Gossip, boutiques and fashion retails store like Truly Bangkok, Connect Studio, have shown that they are capable of syncing talent with industry and economics. The change and growth that has been portrayed is heart throbbing, overwhelming and delaying as well, as man has a thirst of modernity and development and requires change at an impulsive rate but change comes only from within. The change or difference of perception is possible

only if the individual possesses a quality of acceptance and respect to every field of art, literature and business irrespective of any distinctions and barriers. It is also necessary that the essence of creativity and openness to experience should be present in order to complete this cycle of promoting oneself as well as the native soil. The youth are the main torch bearers for this society, building up an empire that is to serve its own home land and also to fulfil their own desires and needs. Dimapur as a whole stands as an example for the other districts and states that are yet to take the steps of modernity and revolution but though Dimapur has to get through many more milestones in its journey towards a better future it has indeed shown great escalation towards its goal by achieving and giving back to the society. It has created itself from a remote district to an ever growing commercial centre and that growth has maintained its graph at a constant rate which incorporates with the welfare of the society. Marina Jose, DC Court, Dimapur

election campaign some people take money from the candidates with a promise to lure more voters. Not a surprise to see some people with no regular jobs or a legal business establishment living a luxurious life. The result is, the common people suffer under their expensive nose. Democratic responsibility and Christian principles:Don’t you think Democracy in Nagaland is threatened? And who is responsible? Shall keep on with the Blame Game Policy and never change ourselves for a better, clean and fair election? If we say all politicians are corrupt & selfish, then don’t we realize that we’re the ones who elected them and that we are equally corrupted? To abrogate all these corrupt practices of elections is indubitable. We’re in a situation ‘where everybody knew but nobody obeyed’, ‘everybody said but nobody did’ and ‘everybody listens but nobody follows’. (To be concluded) Shanchothung Murry

Reader’s Post Lack of facilities for UID registration in Peren district

Sir,

Now everything seems not to work without UID No. or Addhaar. The making of Adhaar sort of mandatory by the NDA Govt. at Centre despite conflicting directive from the supreme court is making life miserable for majority of the public. The UID registration in Peren district disappeared after the first round when the public awareness of its importance grows and the need for Aadhaar become more pressing. It is learnt that the task of UID registration was given to a private firm on contract but they were never present in administrative stations. The firm one time mopping exercise cannot encompass the whole population of the district due to the mobility of the population as is the case these days. Their constant presence in administrative headquarter is a must. It is therefore, appealed to the concerned authority to cancel the contract to that particular private firm which could not carry out the task properly and let the district administration take over as is done in other district for the welfare and convenience of the people of the district. It is also requested to make each administrative Headquarter to be the point of Aadhaar Registration. Unless this is taken up urgently the difficulties of many Bank Account holders, students, job card holders etc. will increase. Dr. Tumda Newme, NPCC member, 6th Tening A/C

NEW DELHI, May 2 (PTI): Falling for the second straight session, gold prices on Tuesday declined by another Rs 100 to Rs 29,350 per 10 grams at the bullion market on muted demand from local jewellers amid a weak trend overseas. Silver also dropped by Rs 400 to Rs 40,000 per kg due to reduced offtake by industrial units and coin makers. Traders said apart from weak global cues, a fall in demand from local jewellers at domestic spot market mainly kept gold prices lower. Globally, gold fell 0.09 per cent to $1,255 an ounce in Singapore.

On behalf of the APO, Dr. Vilhusa Seleyi presented a shield and a spear to the Ao senden and said that coming together of the two communities was not to dominate or manipulate others but to lead our society to a brighter future. He also said it was incumbent on the part of advanced tribes to spread the message of love through our Lord Jesus Christ. to the Dalai Lama clique and funded secessionist activities.” It, however, did not reveal the names or the designations of the officials. This is the first time official media here has come out with a disclosure of Chinese officials’ links with the Dalai Lama after he fled from China to India in 1959. Wang, in an article published yesterday in a magazine run by the CPC, the Central Commission of Discipline Inspection and the Ministry of Supervision, wrote that “some have even donated to the 14th Dalai Lama clique, joined illegal underground organisations and provided intelligence to overseas organisations.” A few party officials are failing to “uphold their political integrity” and

are “completely ignoring political discipline,” Wang said, adding that such behaviour has affected the CPC coherence and its ability to fight separatism. China views the 14th Dalai Lama as a “separatist” working to split Tibet from China. China has been carrying out a systematic crackdown in Tibet and associated prefectures with Tibetan population to eliminate the influence of the Dalai Lama, who is revered and regarded as a spiritual leader heading Tibetan Buddhism. In recent years, over 120 Tibetans, mostly monks, have committed self-immolations in different parts, calling for the return of the spiritual leader. His recent visit to Arunachal Pradesh which China calls ‘South Tibet’ soured the relations between India and China further as Beijing lodged a diplomatic protest and announced Chinese “standardised” named for six places in Arunachal Pradesh in retaliation.

SEOUL, MAY 2 (AP): A contentious US anti-missile system based in southeastern South Korea can now defend against North Korean missiles, a South Korean official said today. The Terminal High Altitude Defense system set up at a converted golf course in Seongju has “early capability” to respond to North Korea’s nuclear and missile threat, Defence Ministry spokesman Moon Sang Gyun said. He didn’t say when Washington and Seoul expected THAAD to be operating fully. The deployment has triggered anger from Seongju residents who fear North Korea may target their town and who worry about rumored health hazards linked to THAAD’s powerful radar. People also debate whether the security benefits of THAAD would outweigh possible drawbacks if relations worsen with China, which sees the system as a threat, and they have been angered by President Donald Trump’s statement that he would make South Korea pay USD 1 billion for the

BEIJING, MAY 2 (PTI): China’s ruling Communist party for the first time has publicly said some of its officials were funding the Dalai Lama by donating money to the 81-year-old exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, undermining the fight against “separatist” forces. A senior discipline inspection official has “lambasted some party officials for allegedly donating money to the 14th Dalai Lama, saying such behaviour severely undermines the party’s fight against separatism,” state-r un Global Times reported today. Some party officials have neglected important political issues and the country’s anti-separatist struggle, Wang Yongjun, head of the discipline watchdog in Tibet, which is officially called the Tibet Autonomous Region, was quoted as saying. The Global Times, a tabloid publication attached the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), also quoted a 2016 report issued by Tibet’s discipline watchdog, linking “15 party officials to alleged illegal overseas separatist organisations in 2014 who provided intelligence

Can strike tightens Red’s hold on 3rd

Liverpool midfielder Can storms away in celebration closely followed by his team-mates Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana.

L o n d o n , M ay 2 (Agencies): Emre Can scored a sensational overhead bicycle kick as Liverpool galvanised their grip on third place in the Premier League by winning 1-0 at Watford on Monday. Having seen top-four rivals Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal all drop points on Sunday, Liverpool capitalised thanks to Can’s jawdropping effort in first-half injury time. The Germany midfielder’s fifth goal of the

season took Liverpool three points above fourth-place City, albeit having played a game more, inching Jurgen Klopp’s side closer to Champions League qualification. Walter Mazzarri’s Watford remain 13th, having been denied a last-gasp equaliser when centre-back Sebastian Prodl’s crisp effort thudded against the crossbar. M’Baye Niang registered an early shot on target for the hosts, but a sleepy start to the game was remarkable more for injuries

than penalty-box action. Liverpool went close with a couple of efforts from distance, Can extending Heurelho Gomes from range and Lallana rattling the bar with a stunning 20-yard volley after Gomes had punched clear. The visitors were toiling, their lack of ideas exposed when Lucas Leiva received a 44th-minute booking for a totally unconvincing attempt to win a penalty off Tom Cleverley. But two minutes into stoppage time Liverpool went ahead with a Goal of

Kohima, May 2 (NPN): The 4th Inter-Ward Football tournament of Pfutsero town organized by Pfutsero Town Sports Association kicked started Tuesday with MLA Neiba Kronu as the chief guest. In his address, Kronu appealed the youth of the town to make use of the various sports facilities available so as to excel not only at the state and national level but also at international level. He re-

minded the gathering that there was no shortcut to sporting excellence but only through hard work and discipline. While acknowledging the selfless service of traffic constable Neingupe Marhu for his effort to keep the town clean, the chief guest encouraged the youth to maintain cleanliness in the town. The programme was chaired by Deko Chiero, vice president Pfutsero Town Sports Association, God’s blessing was invoked by Calvary Baptist Church

pastor Keduwepe Mero and the welcome note was delivered by PTSA president Vekhosa Ruho. Wetshoteu Lekro enthralled the gathering with a special number while oath of conduct was administered by sports secretary PTSA. Altogether 11 teams from all wards of Pfutsero town are participating in the tournament. The tournament will conclude on May 5 with class-1 contractor Vekhosa Puro as the guest of honour in the closing ceremony.

the Season contender. Lucas flighted a pass into the box and with Nordin Amrabat standing off, Can launched himself into a magnificent scissors kick from 15 yards out that catapulted the ball into the top-left corner. Buoyed by the German’s moment of brilliance, Liverpool set about putting the game to bed in the second half. Gomes had to box away a James Milner freekick and twice saved from Divock Origi, palming away a curling effort and then standing up well to thwart the Belgian striker in a one-on-one. It took Watford until the 68th minute to register another shot on target. Etienne Capoue’s rising effort from distance was tipped over by Simon Mignolet, only for the officials to award a goal-kick, sparking a furious Watford reaction that saw Capoue booked for dissent. The introduction of 21-year-old Nigerian Isaac Success gave Watford some attacking fizz and Daryl Janmaat almost caught Mignolet out with a curling effort from wide on the left. Liverpool might have won more comfortably had Gomes not saved from Joel Matip and substitute Daniel Sturridge, but they were indebted to the woodwork for foiling Prodl at the death.
