DIMAPUR, MAR 30 (NPN): Putting all speculations to rest, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Saturday declared it will lend “issuebased” support to the Congress candidate KL Chishi in the upcoming Lok Sabha election but reaffirmed its principle of regionalism.

According to NPF press bureau, the party has made the decision solely on the basis of supporting a candidate of the secular forces (Congress), but maintained that going together in the ensuing election would not change the stand of the party regionalism nor would it reflect as an alliance partner with them.

NPF press bureau said this was conveyed by party president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, while delivering his official statement during NPF consultative meeting at central office. It said Dr.Liezietsu reiterated that the party has decided to lend support to the Congress only for the upcoming election.

The basis for supporting the Congress candidate arose mainly due to “eminent danger” posed before the Naga people in the form of BJP’s Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016.

Rio confident of NDA return

DIMAPUR, MAR 30 (NPN): NDPP star campaigner and state chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, Saturday took a swipe at NPF, saying its failure to set up a candidate for the Lok Sabha elections and instead extending support to the Congress candidate was a mockery since NPF has 26 MLAs in the House while the Congress does not have a single MLA and had also lost the last three general elections in the State.

Rio said this has demoralised the NPF MLAs and party workers and severe in-fighting had cropped within their ranks.

committee, the chief minister said this while addressing public rallies in Noklak and Thonoknyu on Saturday.

Rio expressed confidence that the BJP-led NDA government would storm back to power under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He, therefore, called upon the people to vote consciously for PDA consensus candidate and sitting Lok Sabha MP, Tokheho Yepthomi.

The chief minister said that the elections to Lok Sabha was one of the largest electoral exercises in the world. However, he said that since Nagaland has just one seat in the Lok Sabha, the lone MP from Nagaland to

the Lok Sabha represents all the people of the State.

As such, he said it was the people who should decide whether they want to elect an MP who could convey the voice of the people to the Lok Sabha in line with the government’s ideologies and objectives in coordination with the state government, or whether they want an MP from the opposition who would not coordinate with the state government and instead sit in the opposition benches in Parliament. Rio was confident that the public knows better as to which choice was more pragmatic and workable for the people of the State.

Indians see unemployment as biggest challenge

NEW DELHI, MAR 30 (IANS): In the run-up to the general election, lack of employment opportunities is seen by the Indian public as the biggest challenge, said a report.

The Pew Research Centre report said that 76 per cent of adults have said that unemployment is a “very big problem and little has changed over the past year”. “In 2018, despite an estimated 3.5 per cent formal unemployment rate, 18.6 million Indians were jobless and another 393.7 million work in poor-quality jobs vulnerable to displacement, according to estimates by the International Labour Office,” said the report.

key concern for the Indians. “Other aspects of the economy are also at the top of the public’s concerns. More than 7-out of-10 (73 per cent) believe rising prices are a very big problem.” People leaving for jobs in other countries posed a problem for India, the survey report said, adding that more than 6-out of-10 (64 per cent) said this type of emigration was a problem, including nearly half (49%) saying it is a “very big” problem.

However, it was noted that out-migration itself may not be viewed favourably.

In 2016, Indian migrants abroad collectively sent nearly $63 billion worth of remittances back to family and friends living in India, or roughly three per cent of total gross domestic product (GDP).

Treasuries to remain open today DIMAPUR, MAR 30: (NPN): State Finance department has directed the Treasuries in Kohima and Dimapur to remain open for government transactions on March 31, 2019, the last day of the current financial year.

The directive follows an RBI decision that all agency banks are to be open on March 31, 2019 to facilitate government transactions.

Patton, has issued a show cause notice on Dr. MM Thromwa Konyak, Independent Candidate for 1-Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency 2019 Election, for circulating on the social media that if he wins the election, he would build churches and send 10,000 missionaries to spread Christianity. The notice stated that the article published in a national daily on March 29, 2019 through an interview with Dr. MM Thromwa Konyak further reaffirmed the promises. RO pointed out that Konyak violated the Model Code of Conduct by seeking votes along religious lines. A Show Cause Notice has been issued as to why action should not be initiated against him.

Heavy vehicle ban in Peren, Meluri

DIMAPUR: DC & DEO, Peren, Sarita Yadav has banned plying of heavy vehicles on roads within Peren district from April 3 to April 13.

According to DIPR, the DC convened a meeting with members of Timber Union Peren on March 29 in view of the Parliamentary Elections scheduled for April 11, and resolved that in order to ensure smooth plying of vehicles on election duty, all heavy vehicles deployed to carry certain goods and items, will not be allowed to ply for the said number of days. Failure to

comply with this order will invite necessary action as per appropriate sections of law. Similarly, ADC and AERO Meluri, Phuleshe K.Yepthomi, has also issued an order that in view of the forth coming Lok Sabha Elections, heavy vehicles, especially log-laden trucks (Shaktimans), except those carrying essential commodities, will not be allowed to ply while the election process is underway. This order will be effective from April 9 to 11. Any violatorsof the said order will invite strict action as per provisions of the Law.

DIMAPUR: Under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign 2019, Wokha district administration initiated ‘e-modod’ (e-help) under which 16 volunteers have been identified from different wards and colonies, mostly youth.

According to a DIPR report, these youth will help and facilitate citizens, especially senior citizens, and differently abled persons in accessing various technology initiatives of the Election Commission of India, like voter helpline applications, NVSP, cVIGIL etc, from the nearest Common Service Centre.

The training required for volunteers and Common Service Centre has been imparted. Senior Citizens Forum and PwD Association have also been intimated about this initiative.

NSCN/GPRN-K warns on random taxation

DIMAPUR: NSCN/ GPRN-K through its MIP has warned anyone indulging and misusing the name of the government, that if they are caught, capital punishment will be imposed as per the resolution and aza “and no clarification and statement will be given any if such occurrence is confronted”.

NSCN/GPRN-K stated that it was aware of the existence of random imposition of taxation by various groups on the business fraternity and the affliction caused to the public by national workers through taxation.

In this regard the NSCN/GPRN-K has stated that after pulling out from Taga, and as a good number of followers were stationed in Yankahou village, “financial aid was in dire need so such collection and contributions was imperative at that particular period just to sustain our cadre station at that village”.

NSCN/GPRN-K however pointed out that taking

undue advantage on initial transition, “many unscrupulous and roguish elements” started serving extortion notices on various businesses and is still relentlessly exploiting the general public.

It further advised the general public to remain cautious and vigilant of such payment/remittance, and avoid any payment without authentication from the concerned officials. It also stated that if such payment is made, the payments shall not be taken into account and will be considered null and void.

NSCN (I-M) in a condolence message sent through its MIP stated that late Rev. Longtsukao, son of Nrichen Ngullie of Tsungiki village, joined national service on March 2007 and served as a home evangelist in the Lotha region in the rank of a section officer till his demise.

MIP stated that he had ser ved the nation whole heartedly till his last breath and in his demise a huge vacuum has been created which would be difficult to fill.

The NSCN (I-M) expressed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed to Almighty God for the departed soul to rest in peace.

Anti-plastic, pro-clean election campaign underway in Kohima

DIMAPUR: An awareness program on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPT), as part of the “No to plastic, Yes to Clean Election Campaign”, was held with Clean Election Campaign District Icon at PWD Ward II Junction, Kohima, on March 30.

According to DIPR, delivering a short speech, district icon, Thejakhrienuo Nakhro stated that a clean election has little to do with candidates and more to do with the voters.

NSC Dimapur scientific model competition DIMAPUR: Nagaland Science Centre (NSC) commemorated “National Science Day 2019” by organizing the 3rd Innovative Science Working Model Competition under the theme “Science for the People and the People for Science” at NSC, Dimapur on March 28.

NSC, Dimapur in a press release stated that chief scientific officer, department of Science & Technology, Dr. Zavei Hiese, as the special guest, laid stress on science and its implications. He added that it was the fundamental duty of everyone to develop a scientific temper.

EO inspects poll-expenditure register DIMAPUR: Expenditure Observer (EO), LP Singh, who has been assigned to monitor election expenses incurred by candidates from 1-Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency, inspected the expenditure register of all candidates during the first round of inspection at Commissioner's Conference Hall on March 29.

According to a DIPR report, the election expenses are inspected by the expenditure observer in every election in accordance with the commission's instructions laid down under Inspection of Accounts. The first round of inspection was done in the presence of commissioner & RO, M. Patton and ADC (HQ) & ARO, Limanenla.

The second and third round of inspection will be held on April 4 and 8 at Commissioner's Conference Hall at 11 a.m.

KVK conducts skill trainings

DIMAPUR: KVK, Dimapur and Kiphire, conducted skill development training programs, sponsored by the Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI), New Delhi, on job roles, “Vermicompost Producer” and “Mushroom grower”, for 200 hours, from February to March.

A press release from senior scientist & head, KVK Dimapur, Jyotish Barman, stated that during the training, the farmers were trained on the importance and scope of

vermicompost in organic farming, general earthworm knowledge, different organic materials sources, har vesting, marketing, health and safety hazards etc.

Under the mushroom grower skill training program, participants were taught the scope and importance of mushrooms, cultivation techniques of commercially important mushrooms, designing appropriate cultivation sites, undertaking disease and insect pest management

activities, harvesting, post harvest management procedures, and basic entrepreneurial activities for small enterprise etc.

The training sessions comprised of both theory and practical classes. The release stated that the program ended with an assessment organized from ASCI, and a one day exposure visit where they interacted with progressive farmers.

Altogether 25 farmers from Dimapur and Kiphire participated in the skill training program.

Correspondent MOKOKCHUNG, MAR 30 (NPN): A common platform for the two candidates of 26 Aonglenden A/C by-election was held on March 30 at Community & Youth Hall Dilong Ward.

The common platform was organized by the Dilong Yimten where the two intending candidates -- Sharingain Longkumer

of NDPP and Alem Jongshi of INC -- declared their intentions and promises in front of the ward’s denizens.

Dilong ward is one of the urban areas under 26 Aongleden A/C with two polling stations. Before the candidates declared their candidatures, a lot was drawn to choose the first speaker and Sharingain Longkumer got the opportunity to speak first.

Declaring his candidature, the candidate stated that it was a privilege and an honour to contest from the prestigious 26 Aonglenden A/C. He said that he stood for the youth and for bringing change. Sharingain also said he was honoured to walk in the footsteps of glorious leaders that the constituency had produced in the past. He pointed out that the constituency has around 40-50% voters in

the age group of 18-35 years and this, according to him, are the future human resources. He therefore, appealed to the voters of Dilong ward to vote for him so that he could represent the face of the youth of the constituency and in the assembly.

Alem Jongshi, the INC candidate, in his speech, urged all legitimate voters to exercise their franchises on polling day without fear or hesitation. Making his stand clear, the INC candidate accused the BJP of operating under a hindutva agenda trying to turn India into a Hindu country undermining the tenets of the Indian Constitution.

Citing several examples, he warned that if BJP were to remain in power, minorities like the Nagas would have to bear its brunt. The INC candidate also stated that his priorities, apart from the Congress manifesto, included health care –a good hospital in Mokokchung; education–an upgrade in the system; youth –focus on skill development to generate self employment avenues; infrastructure and economic development

and social harmony.

I. Tia Soyah, chairman of Dilong Yimten in his speech explained some rules and regulations as resolved by the ward authority to be strictly followed by all concerned during the entire electioneering process. Among these rules were that, a congenial atmosphere should be maintained and no one should disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the ward.

Secondly, only recognized camps will be allowed in the ward.

Thirdly, no outsider will be allowed inside the polling station or its vicinity on polling day. Lastly, only two polling observers from the ward will be allowed inside the polling station from each party, the names for the same are to be submitted to the Yimten beforehand.

However this will not apply to observers assigned by the respective party higher ups.

Short speeches were also allowed to two members from representatives of each candidate. A special prayer was said over both the candidates by Rev. P. Chuba Jamir, associate pastor, MTBA.

3 DC Mon issues directives on bursting fire crackers

DIMAPUR: Deputy Commissioner, Mon Thavaseelan K, in an order issued on March 28 stated that in pursuance to the Supreme Court of India directives only fire crackers with reduced emission (improved crackers) and green crackers as certified by PESO (Petroleum Explosive Safety Organisation) will be permitted to be manufactured and sold.

According to DIPR, the order further stated that they shall only be sold through licensed vendors.

Bursting fire crackers shall be permitted only dur-

ing select events of National/State/Local importance after due permission from the District Administration.

On Diwali days or on any other festival, such fireworks bursting shall strictly be restricted from 8 pm till 10 pm. On Christmas Eve and New Year Eve, when such fireworks start around midnight i.e, 12 am, bursting will only be allowed from 11:55 pm to 12:30 am.

The concerned Police Station of the area shall be held personally liable for any violation and it will amount to committing contempt of Court.

DIMAPUR: Zunheboto Range Students’ Union (ZRSU), in collaboration with YouthNet, conducted a two-day skill development seminar on March 28 and 29 under the topic, retail training and sale associate, hospitality training and personality development, participated in by around 300 youth.

According to a DIPR report, the seminar attempted to train the youth, particularly students and dropouts, to enhance their skills and expose them to job avenues in various fields.

Speaking at the program as guest speaker, director, CECS and nodal director, Childline Nagaland, Subonenba Longkumer, stated that it was high time Nagas unite and do away with “ism”.

He asserted that Nagas had distinguished themselves in many ways but lost the feeling of togetherness and brotherhood.

Longkumer stated that the Nagas cannot move forward because they have been divided in many things, even to the extent of dividing themselves within the same tribes.

He also called out parents as being the ones to blame for thinking government jobs were the only source of income and expressed the view that parents have ingrained their children with the wrong mentality of seeking only government jobs, leading to the problem of today’s generation -- unemployment.

He went on to the

subject of the number of unions and associations in Nagaland and in a jocular vein opined that if there had been a World Record for the highest number of unions and associations formed, Nagas would easily win it.

Longkumer then slammed the practice of starting unions and associations just for the sake of doing it and stated that many of these unions are formed by poor and lazy people and are controlled by the rich and powerful.

He also expressed strong disagreement with the phrase “Youth are the leaders of tomorrow”.

Youth cannot be the leaders of tomorrow if there is no today because without a today there cannot be a tomorrow, he asserted.

He however encouraged the youth saying that they can bring about the change in society needed today.

In his speech, Longkumer also acknowledged and congratulated the awardees and urged them to grow more humble and work harder to achieve greater things in life.

Diphu Mar 30: With the poll date inching closer, Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao Districts have gone into full election mode as political parties, including ruling, opposition and independent candidates have strengthened their poll campaign to pursue voters, particularly of the rural areas.

The campaigning has also triggered shifting of party activists and electorates from one party to other.

It however seems to be a one-way interchange as the maximum rush is to join the ruling BJP. In the intervening time, fifty three families led by Augustine Enghee merged with the ruling BJP in a poll meeting held at Chek-Artu and Harlongchebat village located near Hamren yesterday. Addressing party gathering, Timung took a jibe at Congress MP Birensing Engti calling him a record holder in sleeping throughout his political carrier.

Till now, the mood of the bulk voters are visibly in favor of BJP where just few month ago, it registered an empathic victory in the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council election winning 24 Member of Autonomous Council seats out of the 26. In contrast, congress’s campaign is practically uninfluenced not only in Dima Hasao but in West Karbi Anglong and Karbi Anglong autonomous hill districts.

Regional party ASDC candidate Holiram Terang at this stage is principally banking on the Autonomous State Issue, the traditional support of the regional party due to its deep penetration within maximum community may fetch respectable figure in this election.

The basic opposition of ruling party’s candidate is his militant background which has become ideal tool for congress to woo voters of non tribal community; other adversary is the land policy and voters list controversy of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

The Congress and its allies have been dispersing these issues among the stake holders. The BJP is however well ahead of all other parties and it will be interesting to see how the old war horse Birensing Engti of Congress draws the limelight to stun BJP.

Diphu Mar 30: The All Party Hills Leaders’ Conference (APHLC), through a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong Mukul Kumar Saikia, has demanded that the authority should stay back from changing the name and management of Langpi-Dehangi Rural Bank to Assam Gramin Vikash Bank.

The memo mentioned that Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao are governed under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution hence the rural banks located within Sixth Schedule areas are basically for addressing the needs of the hills tribes, therefore the names of the bank should be proverbial with the local dialect.

“The name LangpiDehangi was selected by the authority because those are the names of two important rivers in the twin hills districts. Removing the names of these two rivers will hurt the sentiment of the tribes living in the two districts.

We have also been told by the bank authority that administration of the rural bank is planning to rename State Bank of India as Bank of India.

This will lead to capturing of all vacancies of posts and benefits available in the rural bank by job seekers from outside the Sixth Schedule areas and local unemployed youths will be deprived of the opportunities,” the memorandum affirmed.

‘Dry Day’ declared on poll days, counting day in dry state Manipur

Shillong, Mar 30 (PTI): The Election Commission has made arrangements to issue braille-enabled ballot papers at all polling booths in the state, as part of its efforts to ensure wider participation of voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Chief Electoral Officer F R Kharkongor said.

The EC initiative, a first in Meghalaya, will facilitate more than 800 visually impaired electorates to vote by a secret ballot, he said.

“We are making preparations to make the election more inclusive We have already mapped over 4,500 persons with disabilities to ensure that they get priority at the polling booths,” Kharkongor told PTI on Friday.

The ballot paper pasted on the electronic voting machines (EVMs) will have the names and symbol of candidates in braille alphabets, he added. Welcoming the move, the visually challenged voters in the state said the initiative will ensure that they get to cast votes independently, without having to depend on anyone.

IMPHAL, Mar 30: In the wake of Lok Sabha elections, Manipur excise department on Saturday declared April 11, April 18 (poll days) and May 23 (counting day) as dry days.

An order of the state government has also declared holidays on poll days.

Polling in the two Lok Sabha seats will take place on April 11 (for Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency and April 18 (for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency). The counting of vote is on May 23.

These three days will be “Dry Day”, a public notification of the state excise department declared on Saturday.

The excise department declared these three days as dry days in pursuance of the section 135C of the Representation of People Act, 1951 and in exercise of the power conferred under section 17(3) of Eastern Bengal Assam Excise Act 1910 which is extended in state of Manipur.

Selling, giving or distribution of spirituous, fermented or intoxicating

liquor or other substances of like nature at hotels, eating house, tavern, shop or any other place, public or private have also been prohibited on these days, the notification added.

All the liquor license holders including exempted categories will be covered by the ban, it said.

Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 and Manipur Liquor Prohibition Rule 1994, prohibiting sale of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), beer, and distilled illicit country liquor is in force in the state.

Despite this, the state excise department declared the days as Dry Day. When asked the reason, an official of the department asserted that despite the prohibition, sale of this prohibited items by unauthorised individuals, vendors was rampant in the state. Well ahead of the poll scheduled announcement, the department had intensified drive to check flow of liquor in the state as part of measures being taken by the election authority to ensure smooth conduct of free, fair and peaceful election.

Meanwhile, Manipur

The order further stated that to enable them to exercise their right of franchise, those government employees/banks employees, public sector undertaking employees etc. serving outside their constituencies in Outer PC and Inner PC can avail special casual leave on poll days.

Cong to give free computers, bicycles NPP worker killed in Arunachal to poor students: APCC president ITANAGAR, March 30, 2019: The Congress on Friday said it will improve infrastructure of all schools in Arunachal Pradesh and will give free computers and bicycles to economically poor students if the party is voted to power in the upcoming state Assembly election.

Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Takam Sanjoy while addressing an election rally at remote Vijaynagar in Changlang district which is yet to be connected by roads, said that the Congress would start construction of the Miao-Vijaynagar road within six months of coming to power.

The road which was started in early 70s, is yet to see the light of the day.

Sanjoy also said that

the Congress will introduce air sorties to Vijaynagar five days in a week till the completion of the road and also promised better road, rail and air connectivity throughout the state if voted to power.

The party offered various sops like implementation of new schemes in a time-bound manner besides ensuring free distribution of school uniforms, books and their timely delivery and improving quality of mid-day meals.

“All elementary level schools will be suitably equipped to provide computer education. Schemes for cash awards to recognise the sincere efforts of the teachers … , financial help to poor students for pursuing higher education will be implemented besides providing internet

facilities in all schools,” Sanjoy said.

He said the Congress government will provide free supply of nutritional supplements like vitamins, iron tabs to BPL category lactating mothers besides supply of sanitary napkins in rural areas and reviewing of Health Insurance Schemes for better and effective implementation.

“Upgrading primary health care centers and providing a maternity ward in each center, increasing hospital beds … and adequate doctors and paramedical staff in all hospitals will be the priority of the party if voted to power,” he added.

Elections to the two Lok Sabha seats and state Assembly would be held simultaneously on April 11 in Arunachal Pradesh.

IMPHAL, MAR 30: NPP president and chief minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma reiterated his party’s stand on contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 on Saturday.

The contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 is one of the poll issues which other political parties are using to target the BJP during their election campaigns in the state where polling in the two Lok Sabha seats will be held on April 11 and 18.

Sangma who is camping in Imphal was attending election rallies of his party.

The party is fielding its state unit president Thangminlien Kipgen as party nominee in the Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency and supporting BJP candidate in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

In an interview with a local cable network, the NPP president reiterated his party’s opposition to the contentious CAB saying that there was no change in party’s stand on

that the Central government agreed not to table the Bill in the house of Rajya Sabha,” he said.

Not only the CAB but NPP will stand against any other bill which is against the interest of the indigenous people of the region, he added.

Itanagar, Mar 30 (PTI): A National People’s Party (NPP) worker has been killed by a suspected NSCN(IM) member at a village in Arunachal Pradesh, a district official said.

The suspected member of the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Coucil of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) assaulted Jaley Anna and his friend Kham Nai Abhi, both NPP workers, at Kheti village in Tirap district at around 10 PM on Friday, the official said on condition of anonymity.

While Anna died on the spot, Abhi has been admitted to a hospital, he said.

The NSCN(IM) member has been identified as one Eli Kethak, a resident of Kheti village. The deceased was a supporter of NPP candidate Tirong Aboh, who is contesting from Khonsa West assembly seat. An FIR has been lodged at Khonsa police station.

Stop misusing country’s armed forces: Congress New Delhi, Mar 30 (PTI): The Congress on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop “misusing” the country’s armed forces for political gains. Senior Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was running away from “real issues” in the campaign for the April-May parliamentary election.

“Since 1947, India has achieved several milestones and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the only PM who thinks the country’s achievements are his individual achievement,” he said. “It is an insult for the armed forces of the country.

It is the country’s armed forces not any party’s or prime minister’s army, the prime minister should stop its misuse for political gains.

New Delhi, Mar 30 (IANS): A day after the Election Commission (EC) gave clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his “Mission Shakti” address, CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Saturday dubbed it a “narrow interpretation” of his complaint and said Modi’s address to announce a feat achieved by scientists during the election campaign was a “gross misuse” of the office of Prime Minister.

Stating that since the EC has confined itself exclusively to the issue of “misuse of official media”, he requested the poll panel to direct the official media to treat speeches and statements made by leaders of

recognised national parties in a similar manner as they treated the Prime Minister’s speech.

Yechury’s remarks came after the EC on Friday ruled that Modi’s address to the nation announcing the successful test of anti-satellite missile (A-SAT) did not violate the model code of conduct (MCC).

In a letter to Yechury, who had filed a complaint over the issue, the poll panel said that the committee headed by Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena had found that the provision regarding misuse of official mass media was “not attracted” in the said case because neither the address was broadcast live by Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR), nor it was directly given to them.

M u mb a i , M a r 3 0 (IANS): Setting the campaign tone for the Lok Sabha elections, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee here on Saturday released a booklet, “100 Mistakes of Modi”, highlighting what it alleged were the biggest blunders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in five years.

The booklet, published by the state Congress, was released by All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Mallikarjun Kharge in the presence of other top party leaders like K.C. Venugopal, Madhusudan Mistry, state Congress chief Ashok Chavan and leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil.

The booklet points to various “failures” of the Modi government, the fatal collapse of the “Achhe Din” dream and how the common man was misled and taken “for a ride” by the “56inch chest”. It dwells upon various topics, including large-scale unemployment and demonetisation, which the Congress termed as an “demon-itising” act on the people that neither reduced terrorism, nor graft but

claimed more than 100 lives, standing in queues. “The Indian economy, which survived the 2008 recession, is now on a deathbed. Under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Congress had constructed a development plan, which was destroyed by the short-sightedness of the Modi government,” the booklet says.

The major highlights of the booklet are controversial defence deals, the arbitrary goods and services tax (GST) and its messy implementation, and the Rs 5,000 crore spent on “fake advertising” in the first four years of the Modi government compared with just Rs 2,658 crore spent during the 10 years of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule.

Despite the claims by the BJP-led Maharashtra government on a massive loan waiver package for farmers, the booklet says “its difficult to find a farmer” who has actually benefited from it. It further alleges in the name of crop insurance for farmers, the BJP gave a lottery to the insurance companies, which have looted thousands of crores of rupees, making it one of the biggest scandals.

Blast damages CRPF vehicle in J&K

Srinagar, Mar 30 (IANS): An explosion destroyed a car on the JammuSrinagar highway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Banihal area on Saturday, sparking panic and slightly damaging one of the CRPF vehicles moving as part of a convoy, authorities said.

Police said the explosion occurred inside a private car at Tethar area of the highway near Banihal town in Ramban district around 10.30 a.m, destroying the vehicle. Later, a team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) collected samples from the site.

The police confirmed there was no loss of life in the incident.

On February 14, a suicide bomber devastated a CRPF vehicle at Pulwama, killing 40 troopers. The attack was claimed by the Pakistan-based Jaish-eMohammed (JeM) terrorist group. Authorities had then decided not to allow any civilian vehicular movement on the highway when convoys of the Army and security forces move on it.

New Delhi, Mar 30 (AGENCIES): Enforcement Directorate has provisionally attached a Hotel Holiday Inn worth Rs 120.20 crore in connection with an alleged money laundering case against lobbyist Deepak Talwar, his family members and related entities, said the agency on Friday.

The ED said Talwar is being probed on the basis of an FIR lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation against officials of the Civil Aviation Ministry, NACIL, Air India and unknown private persons.

“It has been revealed that accused Deepak Talwar illegally engaged in liasoning/lobbying with politi-

cians, ministers, other public servants and officials of Ministry of Civil Aviation for airlines such as Emirates, Air Arabia and Qatar Airways for securing undue benefits for them,” alleged the agency.

The accused illegally managed to secure favourable traffic rights for these airlines during 2008-09 at the cost of national carrier, Air India.

In lieu of securing favourable traffic rights, these airlines allegedly made payments to the tune of Rs 272 crore to Talwar during 2008-09.

“Investigation revealed that Talwar created a web of entities owned by him and his family members in India and offshore havens, to launder proceeds of crime of Rs 272 crore,” the ED alleged.

Part of these payments were deposited in a Bank of Singapore account, belonging to a company, Asiafield Limited, registered in the British Virgin Islands and beneficially owned by Talwar, as alleged by the agency.

K’taka CM seeks EC help to stop tax raids

Bengaluru, Mar 30 (IANS): Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday sought the Election Commission’s intervention to stop the Income Tax department raids on contractors and businessmen allegedly associated with the ruling JD-S and Congress.

“As IT officials continue to raid those associated with our allies, I appeal to the poll panel to direct the tax department to stop the searches being carried under pressure from the Modi government,” Kumaraswamy said in a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer here.

Protesting against those identifying with the JD-S and Congress since Thursday, Kumaraswamy staged a demonstration at the IT department office in the city along with Congress leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, its legislative party leader Siddaramaiah and Congress state unit President Dinesh Gundu Rao and hundreds of supporters.

Bishop Mulakkal’s aide detained with ‘hawala’ money Jalandhar, Mar 29 (AGENCIES): In yet another trouble for the Diocese of Jalandhar, Father Anthony Madasserry, a close aide of rape-accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal, has been detained by the Khanna police in a raid conducted on his officecum-residence at Partappura here today.

The police reportedly recovered around Rs 10 crore hawala money from the accused, which is being verified by Income-Tax officials.

A team of Khanna police arrived at Partappura, which is the generalate headquarters of congregation Franciscan Missionaries of Jesus, founded by Bishop Franco. Father Anthony is the Director General of the congregation. The police are learnt to have taken into custody six persons, including Father Anthony and a woman. The other accused are from Tarn Taran and Mumbai.

A senior official confirmed that six persons, including the priest, had been detained from Partappura. “We will address a press conference at 8:30 am tomorrow,” he said, refusing to divulge details.

Income Tax’s investing wing Director General B.R. Balakrishnan on Thursday refuted the Chief Minister’s charge and clarified in a statement that the raids were conducted on credible evidence of tax evasion.

“No MP, MLA or Minister have so far been covered in the searches, which are carried on contractors and connected persons in the state,” said Balakrishnan.

Terming the raids as Modi’s “real surgical strike” in the open, Kumaraswamy alleged the offer of a constitutional post to Balakrishnan helped the Prime Minister in his revenge game.

“Highly deplorable to use the government machinery and corrupt officials to harass opponents during election time,” tweeted Kumaraswamy.

Balakrishnan said: “The activities of the tax department should not be politicized, personalized or trivilized. In particular, statements which sound like an incitement to violence issued by persons holding responsible posts are deplorable.”

Polling for 28 Lok Sabha seats across the state will be held in two phases on April 18 and April 23.

Against a mighty odd

t’s an all out war in the current election campaign and every means is as fair like in love as in war.

That’s what has been witnessed during the past several weeks in the run up to the 2019 Lok Sabha election as the ruling party government at the Centre has gone all out to pursue and prosecute critics and opposition leaders with a great sense of urgency and that itself has raised suspicions. On the other hand, history sheeter or those allegedly involved in corruption or linked to it from among the ruling party and its political partners are untouched. There has been a systematic and persistent efforts through media leaks and half truths, to paint all opposition leaders as dubious. Corruption has taken on a different nature and no longer a simple case of ‘A’ taking money from ‘B’ to obtain some undue favours. Like the allegations made by the opposition, that the government paid a corporate honcho in terms of several thousand crore rupees as “advance” for a contract without bidding.

In simple terms it wasn’t corruption but a government contract and whether the advance was to be re-routed to the decision maker demands a high level investigation. Central government and public institutions have also been used in the political game of witch hunt.

The list of Constitutional and statutory institutions that bear the brunt of the ruling party’s destructive interference include - the Supreme Court, RBI, Election Commission, CBI, CIC, UGC etc. The deputy director of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Viral Acharya had called out the Modi government for impinging upon the RBI’s independence. Another instance of a Constitutional body that appears to have buckled under the government’s pressure, going by media reports is the Election Commission of India. At least two instances of flagrant partisanship have been displayed by the Election Commission: one was its decision to delay the announcement of Gujarat Assembly polls schedule in 2017, allegedly to allow the PM and his party to continue distributing largesse in the state; and two, the hurried and unseemly disqualification of AAP MLAs from Delhi on the office of profit charges which was quashed by the Supreme Court. On the issue of violation of Model Code of Conduct(MCC), against Modi for announcing the successful test-firing of an anti-satellite missile; the ECI chose to reject the charges. Even on the RTI, the government did away with the present five-year fixed term for information commissioners both at the Central Information Commission (CIC) and State Information Commissions (SICs). Even the Central Vigilance Commission, another statutory body, has been headed by a ruling party nominee- K.V. Chowdary since 2015. Many other official bodies ranging from the UGC to top officers in research and academic bodies including university appointees like vice chancellors, the ruling party government has played fast and loose, freely appointing its own supporters, and thereby tilting the balance in favour of their ideological positions. The Indian media, is perhaps playing the most dubious “friendly role” of the ruling establishment by ignoring crucial issues and instead questioning the opposition on every issue. The media is diverting from such issues and instead, trying to project the election as a referendum on Modi. With such a massive alliance of public institutions, media and resources, it will be interesting to note how the Indian voters decide.

—Isaiah 59:16 The reason many of us stop praying and become hard toward God is that we only have an emotional interest in prayer. It sounds good to say that we pray, and we read books on prayer which tell us that prayer is beneficial— that our minds are quieted and our souls are uplifted when we pray. But Isaiah implied in this verse that God is amazed at such thoughts about prayer.

Worship and intercession must go together; one is impossible without the other. Intercession means raising ourselves up to the point of getting the mind of Christ regarding the person for whom we are praying (see Philippians 2:5). Instead of worshiping God, we recite speeches to God about how prayer is supposed to work.

Are we worshiping God or disputing Him when we say, “But God, I just don’t see how you are going to do this”?

This is a sure sign that we are not worshiping. When we lose sight of God, we become hard and dogmatic.

We throw our petitions at His throne and dictate to Him what we want Him to do. We don’t worship God, nor do we seek to conform our minds to the mind of Christ.

And if we are hard toward God, we will become hard toward other people.

Are we worshiping God in a way that will raise us up to where we can take hold of Him, having such intimate contact with Him that we know His mind about the ones for whom we pray? Are we living in a holy relationship with God, or have we become hard and dogmatic?

Do you find yourself thinking that there is no one interceding properly? Then be that person yourself. Be a person who worships God and lives in a holy relationship with Him. Get involved in the real work of intercession, remembering that it truly is work— work that demands all your energy, but work which has no hidden pitfalls. Preaching the gospel has its share of pitfalls, but intercessory prayer has none whatsoever.

or the second time in your write ups, you have charged the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) and the Naga army as the scapegoat for all the evils that have befallen our nation. In your present article of March 28, 2019; you have gone even to the extent of saying that “...what the Naga army did was never short of terrorism.” You had also accused that while the NNC policy was only to “safeguard Naga right and identity,’ the FGN in violation of this policy waged war against India and went for an ‘all out offensive policy’ of bombing even civilian trains with Improvised Explosive Devices (I.E.Ds).

Had you been sharing just your own opinion with some friends of yours, I would not have bothered to correct you.

But since this is the second time you have expressed your totally misinformed account about the Indo Naga conflict through the public media, I feel obligated to correct you in the same media.

If this is not done, I feel that some Naga youngsters of today who are outrageously ignorant of our own history might be further misinformed through your writings.

It is also impossible to give a detailed account in a rejoinder like this, but here is a brief generalised account of the historical facts and sequences: 1. The intimidation and even killing of innocent Nagas in the Tuensang division had started even as early as 1948 where two people were shot to dead in 1948 and another two in 1950. In 1953 Indian government began persecution in Nagaland on a mass scale.

by the Assam rifles (AR) and the Assam armed police (AP) battalions.

2. These unprovoked Actions went on until on Nov.15, 1954 Yempang village was burnt to ashes and 53 villagers including woman and children were beheaded. Next on November 27, 1954 Chingmei village was both bombarded by aerial bombardment and also attacked by one battalion of Para-military Forces and armed police causing many deaths.

3. As attacks after attacks were launched by the Indian forces, by the end of 1955, 279 Nagas were killed in different villages in the Tuensang region. Besides these outright killings, over 2000 free Nagas died through torture, starvation and exposure. By 1955 over ten thousand Nagas had been beaten and tortured. Many villages and granaries were also burnt to ashes when 46 villages containing 10791 houses were attacked as many as 223 times.

On March 31, 1955 the Vice President of the NNC send the following cable message to the United nations with copies to the Government of India and all foreign Ambassadors in New Delhi: “Reports reaching Kohima say that more than 10,000 men women and children of free Nagaland believed to have been killed by the Indian troops within the last few days of whole sale massacre (Stop). People are being butchered systematically from village to village in free Nagaland). Urgently appeal to you in the name of humanity to intervene and stop killing.”

defend ourselves through the formation of the Safeguard and Home Guards in March 1955 (Source: Resume of Important Naga Events 1879-1956; Fate of the Naga People, an appeal to the world, London: July 1960).

All these historical records show that the Naga army can never be accused of any terrorist activities against civilian Indian citizens. The first Naga army offensive against the Indian army was launched only on June 11, 1956 when the heavily Indian army occupied Kohima town was attacked. (The Naga army was then called The Home Guards). This attack also failed to achieve its goals due to lack of arms and ammunition on the part of the Home Guards.

The spirited attack fell on July 5, 1956 when heavy reinforcement along with heavy artillery reached Kohima from Assam and India. From then on the Indo-Naga war had taken on a guerrilla war pattern and has continued on till today. These splendid Naga Home Guards army achieved an unbelievable record when it was able to bring the Indian army into a Ceasefire agreement in 1964. After 1964 only, the Home Guard nomenclature was changed to The Naga Army. On what grounds are you then accusing the FGN and Naga army of being guilty of terrorist activities against Indian civilians? Do you also mean to say that your own father-General Ziiheto was also a terrorist General? After all, he was the General of the Naga Army who led over a thousand Naga army personnel to East Pakistan in 1965.

e have heard about moral values like ‘Honesty, Obedience, and Dignity of Labour’, but these have seldom been put into practice and exhibited, not just in our society but at a national level as well. I foresee a continuing problem for our society unless due attention is paid to address the issue, and is dealt with all the tools at the earliest. Theoretically if we define, unemployment is nothing but a situation where a person of certain age group though able and willing to work, but is out of work because of lack of opportunities. This is exactly what is happening in Nagaland. In what follows, I shall cast out some possible reasons of unemployment in Nagaland, where enormity in reasons for unemployment prevails.

Since there is no shortage of words in a language like English I cast few glaring reasons of unemployment in state which have been incremental in solidifying the subject matter.

Despite of the available vacancies in several Government Departments, they (departments) do not requisition the post through NPSC Nagaland Public Service Commission and instead appoint adhoc or contract employees. This practice of corruption has left behind many Educated Unemployed Youths in Nagaland.

Due to this, Approximately 63,733 educated and abled persons are not only bereft of opportunities rather a disabled person who does not meet all the requisite criteria is employed to practice and paralyses an abled system.

Connecting to the first point, I would like to make clear that, one person is enjoying a salary/income not only in one department but from other departments too, which is all by fraudulent means, while making others to hunt for jobs. In clear words I mean to say that a permanent govt employee is able to post an adhoc worker in place for small amount of salary and himself is able to work independently to make money by practicing the same profession or of his choice at a desired location. This

is what actually happening in case of all government teachers and doctors of rural areas. If this is the case, how can a society progress. It is like job seekers are heading for fishing in the mountain or desert.

The lack of Industries, whether it be, the small scale or medium scale industries are the cause for the menace of unemployment issue in Nagaland.

If these industries grow side by side, it could generate numerous employment opportunities which could help to cope up the struggling society against this ever awake devil.

Taxation and extortion by insurgent groups have been a way of life for people in Nagaland, so much so that few years back in Kohima when National Investigation Agency was probing ‘terror funding’ in the Nagaland state government departments, there were mass protests against NIA. What the NIA terms as ‘Terror funding’ is better understood as the collection of tax by armed Naga separatist groups from government employees and departments. My question is ‘What have we; the common Nagas got in return of these taxes - Better infrastructure, Better facilities what??

The truth is overdependence on traditional employment has made as blind nothing and infact it has also deterred any investments in state.

To venture into New areas thus making us dependent on the Government, dependent on parents, lack of focus and lack of working culture.

If I compare with the contemporary world it would be right to say that we here are tied to a wrong concepts of bonhomie which has made us stick to traditional opportunities and not look beyond.

As Mr S C Jamir said the other day, we need to open our eyes and look to the future instead of living in the past. The question we must ask ourselves - for how long are we willing to sacrifice our future for our past. No community or people in the world have ever progressed by living in the past. Enough is enough.

Conversation with a man from the old culture

e came to the house unannounced (natural for people from the old culture). His every appearance and gait was that of a Villager, his indigenous haircut removed all hairs below a line around the head a little above the ears. Every thing about the person looked a person from uneducated culture except that the half-pant was of factory woven fine jet-black linen, not of the native hand-woven Kilt.

You can pick him out easily in a crowd from the decided heavy steps he walked with -neither fast nor slow- but habitually normal as he ambles in the Road in complete natural ease and manner.

My youngest son first saw the visitor come and announced to me with peculiar movement of his fingers in imitation of the old man’s odd toes as he enquired about my presence in the house.

I was at the back of my house in work-gloves, in old soiled working attire and in my worn-out, several-times-repaired but smashingly comfortable, very light Adidas Running shoe I purchased from Delhi long ago I do not remember when.

What was singularly special about this old man visiting me is that he is perhaps the last surviving person in the world to have peculiarly very exaggerated odd shaped Toes curved towards each other, on both his feet.

When I reached the Verandah, he was already seated easily on the plastic Chair. He was a little hard of hearing and he shifted near me sitting on the Iron bench, and sat down. I asked, “Who cuts your foot nails?”

“When it is needed, I just request some of the young boys in the village, and they slice them,” he said. His toes are curved apart from his other fingers in both of his feet appearing like some reptile sliding out its head from his foot!

The inquisitive and observant British colonial Officers in the nineteenth century described the phenomenon occasionally occur

in the Angamis of yore.

“How many children do you have?” I asked the visitor.

“I have 6 that came out of me, all girls, they are all married and live satisfied but the eldest walked out of her marriage and lives single since and looks after me.”

“Mr. M,” (an important person of the village everyone heard of and we both heard of), “had only one son and many daughters, he asked for more boys and his son suddenly died”, he said. “People do not ask for more than what they already are given,” he said.

There used to be another rich man in my village who had also curved toes on his feet. Since his passing away just before the WWII six decades ago, I did not see in any other person having such toes in the community except on the feet of my present visitor here and now in my house. I have great and rare opportunity to meet him.

I was anxious to capture the rare phenomenon in photo for future generations. “Today I got the great chance”. Who will not welcome such a special visitor come to ones’ house without the host troubling God for the chance! I welcomed him in my house with great pleasure.

The old man was a little hard of hearing and so he stood up from the plastic chair he was sitting and shifted very near to me sitting in the iron bench. We sat silent for some moments unable to figure out subjects to talk about.

To break the silence I stood up, went in, and brought out two empty drinking glasses and a bottle of fanta-drink, placed the glasses on the small teapoy, poured the effervescent liquid into the glasses. I announced loudly that it is permitted Drink of the Christian because I knew; he had formally taken baptism in the Church.

In matter of fact, he told me he often likes to drink Zutho (Angami ricebeer). “It refreshes me after that”, he said.

I replied, “what you are habituated as food from childhood you may continue in temperance”.

He said, “The Young today do not know how to drink; they pour bottled alcohol into the mug to the brim and gulp down the whole quantity in one instance. That is why; there are frequent instances of youths in their prime die in their sleep when still young”, he said.

“After our people started consuming distilled alcohol, there arose disturbing instances of young people dying suddenly in their bed.

Therefore Neihu Rame and Rheichalie Pienyü banned the distillation and consumption of the liquor in Kohima Village”, he said.

I told him, “The Angamis originally did not know the art of distillation of Alcohol; they learned the technique from the Nepali civilian Employees of the Government”.

Neihu Rame, Rheichalie Pienyü and my Visitor were from the same Kohima Village and of the same Pfuchachu Thinuo.

Neihu was the Head Dobashi after the death of Lhousietsü Kerutsa the first Angami Head Dobashi, the first Christian Baptist (1885) among the Angamis.

He was soon posted at Chazouba probably because there were fake rumors of conflict between that nice Chokri Village and Kohima at that time.

Neihu led the Dobashis, -Government Interpreters- in making the Naga Club Petition to the Simon Commission in 1929. Rheichalie Pienyü was the first Peshkar in the Deputy Commissioner Kohima Court and President of the Naga Club from its inception until his death just before the WWII. The habit of the people gulping down alcohol full glass in one gulping was odd in the old Naga culture.

It is because the young generation today rarely drinks with their old generation parents slowly sipping wine in their home as a supplement for food that the youths have lost cultural

behavior contact with the old generation.

In Olden Days, people sip alcohol slowly into the mouth, keep the liquid there for some time and only after whetting the whole mouth would swallow it down.

I observed my visitor lift the glass to his mouth, keep there for a moment –I thought he was silently saying the Grace- and only then take a small sip of the effervescent thing, keep it in his mouth for several moments and then swallow it slowly as if in leisure.

“That is exactly the manner Scots Whiskey is taken”, the Receptionist at the beautiful, cute and smallest Scots whiskey Factory in Scotland said, when we visited the place.

The Receptionist made us sit inside the Showroom entertained us all free to a peck each of the whiskey they were distilling and bottling there.

In demonstration, the Receptionist lifted the filled up whiskey glass to her Nose and advised us all to do the same and smell the whiskey first for some time. “The quality of Whiskey is in its odor, it is first smelt and then sipped into the mouth, only then, you can fully enjoy it”, she said.

“From where did the old wild uneducated Naga that visited me the other day got the principles of the civilized Scots?

The wild pagan Angami Naga People got shreds of Spiritual Values secretly and mysteriously from God’s Grace. They fought the Colonial British in Naga Hills from 1832 to 1879 and in the 47 years of unequal War, both sides came to know better of the other Party. Some upright colonial Officers like John Butler, in the first half of the nineteenth century saw in the Naga life others did not see.

The colonialists thought the Angami Hills with whom they came initially into violent contacts were a wild, savage people in the periphery of the civilized Law. However, over 47 years of continuous intermittent conflict the Colonial

Power and the Naga came to know each other more and admiration for each other’s way of life, values, characters and nature, grew to respect each other more and more.

The colonials ultimately found out and recorded two characteristic in the native Angami Naga Life:i). In spite of his relentless love of taking enemy heads, the Angami Naga did not search for Territorial Expansion. ii). they live peaceably among themselves in honor and respect of each other.

John Butler wrote the Naga live (i. John Butler, J.A.S 1875 Vol. XLIV, No.4) “a form of the purest democracy which it is very difficult indeed to conceive as existing even for a single

day; and yet that it does exist here, is an undeniable fact.”

The ‘form of purest democracy’ -people who created the Magna Charta could not imagine even- is in the heart, mind of every rustic Naga villager like the old villager who visited this Writer the other day.

The unwritten Democracy that is in the heart and head of every Naga may be unconceivable to the most civilized people of the world; but the Naga can excel in it and with it.

It is the corner stone of Naga Life.

If Nagaland were built on it -not on Parroted LifeGod’s little Acre could become a place of par excellence.

Unity in diversity

Saving life by donating blood is common in mainland India. However it still has some elements of unknown questions in Eastern Nagaland. Tuensang having 4major tribes of Nagaland has often depicted diversity with its numerous different folktales. But something happened unique on 29.3.2019. I got a call late night saying that one lady in her 30s had severe blood loss with haemoglobin left only 4%. Caller was student union personel and he asked me for A+ve blood and me being doctor myself, before coming in police, Icould make out the emergent need and I called my police persons and army friend.

After reaching hospital we got to know that one more lady in her 30s had bleeding and blood loss since a week and was facing hypovolemic shock and fell unconscious. Uniqueness which inspires us is, that two ladies belonged to Chang community but my four police boys were from Ao, Sema, Zeliang and Lotha and my driver was Khaimniungan and person called me was Yimchunger her relative. Moreover one army Major from TA also came with his two boys, one being Yimchunger and other non Naga and they also donated blood. This way police, army, and the community as whole, could save two livesby donating 6 units of blood but more than that it has reiterated that blood has same color which unites us as same species and humanity is above everything. This gives pride to be in Tuensang and with Naga people who not only have unthinkable survival skills but also great hearts. This will always stay as great example of unity in diversity.

KO HI M A , M AR 3 0 (NPN): Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha, has informed that since the announcement of the elections in the state total cash of Rs. 71,57,740 and 58,766 litres of liquor have been seized by law enforcement agencies. On March 29, Rs. 69, 57,740 and 58,596 litre of liquor were seized from different parts of the state.

He maintained that on March 18 and March 23, 2019, the 26 elected NPF members had a thorough discussion for the coming LS election.

In those meetings, he said all the seven rebel MLAs were not in favour of setting up a party candidate but instead to support the secular Congress candidate. “They may be cheating the people with their false statement, but they have cheated themselves”, Zeliang added.

Zeliang also cautioned that seven rebel MLAs that they were “legally” still NPF legislators and every elected MLA was bound by the party constitution and not by any Assembly speaker. He said that the party has served them a show cause notice but that the door was still open to them. Zeliang cautioned that if the rebels did not return within stipulated time given to them, the party would then be compelled to initiate further steps. During the discussion, the division presidents and the representatives affirmed that the party was intact and reaffirmed to stand by the party decision and principle. The meeting was chaired by NPF secretary general and MP Rajya Sabha, KG Kenye, and invocation was given by P Longon, CEC member.

DIMAPUR, MAR 30 (NPN): Clean Election Campaign (CEC), Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) and Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF) have convened a prayer and consultation meeting for the ensuing 17th Lok Sabha election on April 2 at 11am NBCC Platinum Hall Bayavu, Kohima.

In a press release, CEC-NBCC convener Rev. Dr. Mar Atsonchanger and NJCF president Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho stated that letters have been dispatched to all candidates and political parties.

They requested the candidates and the political parties that have filed their candidates including the independent candidate, to send their candidates along with four party workers.

Other political parties that have not filed candidates have also been requested to attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, CEC-NBCC and NJCF have also requested pastors in Kohima and Dimapur and all the denomination leaders to attend the prayer and consultation meeting on April 2.

DIMAPUR, MAR 30 (NPN): The 75th Anniversary of the World War II Battle of Kohima (BoK) will be commemorated with a year-long celebration starting April 4, the day the battle started in 1944. According to an official bulletin, the year-long celebration will kick start with an inaugural event on April 4, 2019 followed by events including Scholarship Award, Capacity Building Training, BoK Marathon, Literary Fest, Film Festival, Vintage Car Rally, World War II Trail Walk, Cross Cultural event, Parade/Military Tattoo, Music and Food Festival, Airshow and Light & Sound Show, etc.

A meeting of the organizing committee of the year-long event comprising of members from the state government, Army and NGOs was held on Saturday under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy at the chief secretary’s conference hall. After detailed discussions, the committee finalised the programme for the main inaugural event, which is slated for April 4, 2019.

To make matters clear as to the compulsion behind support to the Congress, Dr. Shurhozelie reminded that he had suffered politically under years of Congress rule in the state.

He said that despite the past, the NPF decided to make the best of a bad bargain and stand with the Congress candidature due to the issue confronting the future of the Naga people.

Also speaking on the occasion, NPF legislature party leader, TR Zeliang, informed that his party would extend issue-based support

directive from the Chief Minister’s Office and has also failed to understand the gravity of the issue. “This back handed commitment of the district administration has encouraged some private parties to openly undertake concrete constructions inside the college campus at present,” ANCSU stated.

Further, questioning the sincerity of the district administration, the union warned that in the event of any further encroachment or jeopardising of the student community through the land issue, the district administration would be held accountable.

ANCSU has also appealed to the state government to take serious note about the insincerity of the district administration.

Gandhinagar, Mar 30 (IANS): BJP chief Amit Shah’s nomination filing on Saturday turned out to be a show of strength by the NDA, with major allies Shiv Sena and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) pitching for another term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shah, at the helm of affairs here at a public meeting at Sardar Patel Chowk, was praised by all the leaders as people thronged the street for a glimpse of their leader during a huge road show.

The road show ended at Prabhat Chowk area of Ghatlodia after which Shah left for Gandhinagar to file the nomination papers. The seat was represented since 1998 by BJP veteran L.K. Advani who was this time denied a ticket.

SAD chief and former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was the first to reach the dias followed by Shah, who greeted him by touching his feet.

New Delhi, Mar 30 (PTI): Tax offices, for both income tax and GST, will remain open on Sunday as the departments’ race against time to meet the revenue collection targets.

“As per past practice, all field offices of CBIC (Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs) will remain open during the last weekend of the current financial year also March 30 and March 31, 2019, for assisting the taxpayers in all matters,” CBIC said in an office memorandum.

In an office order, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) asked its field offices to facilitate the filing of tax returns by the taxpayers by opening additional receipt counters, wherever required, on March 30 and 31.

“The last date for filing belated/revised taxreturns for the assessment year 2018-19 is March 31, 2019. The financial year 2018-19 also closes on (March) 31.

New Delhi, Mar 30 (PTI): Capital markets regulator Sebi slapped Rs 94.5 lakh penalty on 17 entities for indulging in fraudulent trade practices in illiquid stock options segment on the BSE. The regulator, during the course of investigation between April 2015 and September 2015, found that 81.38 per cent of all the trades executed in the stock options segment involved reversal of buy and sell positions by the clients and counter-parties in a contract on the same day.

These entities were among those “whose reversal trades involved squaring off transactions with significant difference in sell value and buy value of the transactions,” Sebi said in similarly worded separate orders on Friday. It further said trades of the entities are non-genuine as they are not executed in normal course of trading, lack basic trading rationale, lead to misleading appearance of trading in terms of generation of artificial volumes, and are hence deceptive & manipulative.

By indulging in such trades, the entities have violated provisions of the Prohibition of Fraudulent and Unfair Trade Practices (PFUTP) norms, Sebi said.

New Delhi, Mar 30 (PTI): The government has again extended its deadline to impose retaliatory customs duties on 29 US products, including almond, walnut and pulses, till May 2.

A notification of the finance ministry said that implementation of increased customs duty on specified imports originating in the US has been postponed from April 1, 2019 to May 2, this year.

The government has extended this deadline over half a dozen times since June 2018, when it decided to impose these duties in retaliation to a move by the US to impose high customs duties on certain steel and aluminium products.

India is pushing the dates as both sides are negotiating a trade package to boost bilateral commerce.

Valletta, March 30 (IANS): Three African teenagers were charged in Malta on Saturday with hijacking an oil tanker that had rescued them and others off the coast of Libya.

The three migrants were among 108 Africans rescued by the the El Hiblu 1 tanker earlier this week.

But they reportedly hijacked it on Wednesday after being told they would be returned to Libya. The migrants reportedly threatened the crew and forced them to change direction of the tanker towards Malta once they realised that they were going to be returned to Libya.

The three youth, aged 15, 16 and 19, appeared in court on Saturday to face charges of having unlawfully seized control of the ship, a crime which under Maltese law is punishable by 7 to 30 years jail, the BBC reported.

Two of the teenagers are from Guinea and a third from Ivory Coast. All three are minors and deny the charges. They face up to 30 years in jail if found guilty. They told the tanker's captain to head north towards Europe instead, reports say.

A patrol vessel later stopped the tanker from entering Maltese territorial waters and a special operations team was dispatched to board and secure the vessel, the Armed Forces of Malta said in a statement.

Palm Beach, Mar 30 (AP): Threatening drastic action against Mexico, President Donald Trump declared he is likely to shut down America’s southern border next week unless Mexican authorities immediately halt all illegal immigration.

Such a severe move could hit the economies of both countries, but the president emphasised, “I am not kidding around.”

“It could mean all trade” with Mexico, Trump said when questioned Friday by reporters in Florida.

“We will close it for a long time.”

Trump has been promising for more than two years to build a long, impenetrable wall along the border to stop illegal immigration, though Congress has been reluctant to provide the money he needs.

Liam Neeson apologizes for racial comments

month after Liam Neeson gave an interview, in which he recalled decades-old thoughts of wanting to kill some “black bastard” when a close friend told him she was raped, the “Taken” star is apologizing over his comments.

In a statement obtained

by Fox News, the 66-year-old actor said that the remarks he made “do not reflect, in any way,” his “true feelings” nor him. He acknowledged, in no uncertain terms, that his words “were hurtful and divisive.”

“Over the last several weeks, I have reflected on and spoken to a variety of people who were hurt by my impulsive recounting of a brutal rape of a dear female friend nearly 40 years ago and my unacceptable thoughts and actions at that time in response to this crime,” the statement read.

“The horror of what happened to my friend ignited irrational thoughts that do not represent the person I am.

“In trying to explain those feelings today, I missed the point and hurt many people at a time when language is so often weaponized and an entire community of innocent people are targeted in acts of rage.

“What I failed to realize is that this is not about justifying my anger all those years ago, it is also about the impact my words have today. I was wrong to do what I did. I recognize that, although the comments

I made do not reflect, in any way, my true feelings nor me, they were hurtful and divisive. I profoundly apologize.”

Last month, the veteran actor faced immense backlash after an interview with The Independent was published, in which Neeson said he once walked the streets armed with a club for a week. He said he hoped to kill a black man after a

close friend told him she was raped by a black male.

“There’s something primal – God forbid you’ve ever had a member of your family hurt under criminal conditions,” the actor said in that interview.

“She handled the situation of the rape in the most extraordinary way,” Neeson said. “But my immediate reaction was — I asked, did she know who it

was? No. What color were they? She said it was a black person.”

Neeson then described waiting outside pubs with a “cosh,” hoping a “black bastard” would spark an altercation.

“I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be approached by somebody – I’m ashamed to say that – and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some [in air quotes] ‘black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know?

So that I could… kill him,” he continued. “It took me a week, maybe a week and a half, to go through that.

Shanghai’s Hongkou becomes world’s 1st 5G district

Shanghai on Saturday claimed to have the world’s first district with 5G coverage and a broadband gigabit network. It conducted trial runs of the 5G network, backed by telecom services provider China Mobile.

“Trial runs of the 5G network started on Saturday in Shanghai’s Hongkou district, where 5G base stations had been deployed over the last three months to ensure full coverage,” the China Daily reported.

Shanghai’s vice-mayor Wu Qing made the network’s first 5G video call on Huawei’s Mate X

smartphone, the first 5G foldable phone.

The city aims to build over 10,000 5G base stations by the end of this year and the number of 5G base stations could cross 30,000 in 2021, said Zhang Jianming, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Economic and Informatisation Commission, the telecom and industry regulator.

5G, the next generation of cellular technology, will have download speed 10-100 times faster than the 4G LTE networks.

In February, Shanghai announced a 5G de-

ployment programme at Hongqiao Railway Station where users would be able to watch live broadcasts of town hall meetings and experience lightning-quick downloads of high-resolution movies as and when 5G-powered phones and tablets become available.

“Shanghai also plans to nurture over 100 innovative companies, specialised in exploring 5G-related application scenarios, whose industrial output is expected to reach 100 billion yuan ($14.9 billion) by 2021,” Zhang was quoted as saying by the China Daily.

Chinese premium smartphone player Huawei is leading the 5G race globally with its massive investments in R&D, but is facing the heat from some Western countries, particularly the US. They allege that Huawei’s 5G network could pose a national security threat.

According to Huawei, Mate X would be launched by mid-year and considering India as an important market, it would be introduced here soon after.

ichael Sweet, singer, guitarist and primary songwriter of the openly Christian hard rock band Stryper, says that he is tired of “being judged” by people who question his commitment to God. Even though Stryper’s third album, 1986’s “To Hell With The Devil”, made him and his bandmates the first contemporary Christian act to score a platinum album, the group has often felt unwelcome in Christian circles, with some members of the church feeling that Christianity and heavy metal are incompatible.

Recently Sweet posted a message on his Facebook page in which he expressed his frustration with other members of the Christian community, saying that he is “committed to Christ” and vowing to always believe “in His faith and His salvation.”

Michael wrote: “Without getting into details, I’m so very tired of feeling and or being judged. I don’t go to church as often as I should. I don’t read my bible as often as I should. I like an occasional bourbon (whisky).

n a bizarre incident, social networking giant Facebook has said that it “mistakenly deleted” CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s old posts, some of them dating back to 2007 and 2008.

A spokesperson from the company reportedly said many of Zuckerberg’s old posts about Facebook can still be found on the company’s blog and in its newsroom.

“A few years ago some of Mark’s posts were mistakenly deleted due to technical errors. The work required to restore them would have been extensive and not guaranteed to be successful so we didn’t do it,” CNET quoted a Facebook spokesperson as saying on Friday.

Miami, Mar 30 (Agencies): Roger Federer handed Denis Shapovalov a tennis lesson at the Miami Open on Friday night, winning 6-2 6-4 to move into his second consecutive ATP Masters final.

Federer produced a masterclass at Hard Rock Stadium to leave up-andcoming star Shapovalov, who grew up idolizing the Swiss, chasing shadows during a difficult first set.

The Canadian enjoyed some better moments towards the end of the second, but it wasn’t enough to dislodge the three-time Miami champion who now has a chance to land his 101st career crown after missing out in Indian Wells where he lost to Dominic Thiem in the final.

Federer will play John Isner, who lifted the 2018 title, in Sunday’s final after the American beat Shapovalov’s friend and

compatriot Felix AugerAliassime in straight-sets in Friday’s other semi-final.

“The long first game helped me get a read on his serve and I came out of the blocks well,” said Federer, the number four seed who hit 30 winners with just eight coming from his opponent’s racket.

“I made some minor adjustments and I was happy with my variations.

I know what to expect when I play John, he’s got an amazing serve so it’s going to be tough for sure.

This was Shapovalov’s fifth ATP Tour semi-final and even though the 20 time Slam-winning Swiss was standing in his way of a first final, the 19 year-old stressed beforehand that it was a “dream” to take on Federer.

It quickly, however,

turned into a nightmare.

The Canadian displayed understandable nerves early on, a struggle with his first serve proving as much in a 10 minute opening game which he eventually won.

Yet it didn’t settle him down and when another horribly loose backhand flew long, Federer pocketed a vital early break for 2-1.

Shapovalov hit 14 unforced errors in the opening four games and when the 37-year-old Federer was handed another break after a double-fault, the world number 23 trudged back to his chair with his head bowed.

The first set was over in just 35 minutes, with Federer winning 88% of points on his first serve.

Shapovalov started the second set confidently, landing his first ace to cement a strong hold and then found himself 15-40

up on Federer’s serve.

But his game was far too loose and after he failed to convert a fifth Shapovalov double fault saw the Swiss break again to put himself on the way to his 50th ATP Masters final.

John Isner denied Felix Auger-Aliassime a maiden Masters 1000 final as he defeated the Canadian qualifier in two tight sets on tiebreaks to reach the Miami Open showpiece.

The 33-year-old American defending champion was a break down in each of the two sets but AugerAliassime, who had won seven matches to reach the semi-final, was unable to serve out for the set on each occasion.

CSK’s Willey pulls out of IPL Chennai, Mar 30 (PTI): Chennai Super Kings allrounder David Willey has pulled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League because of personal reasons.

English cricket Willey, who played three matches for the Super Kings in 2018, was quoted by Yorkshire County Cricket Club website as saying that “unfortunately due to some family reasons, I’ve had to pull out of the IPL”.

“We are due for our second baby and my wife’s had a bit of a tough time, so I’m having to make sure she’s alright,” he said.

“It’s a bit open-ended as to when I’ll be available for Yorkshire, but hopefully I’ll be available for the start of the 50-over competition,” Willey added.

He also said CSK were very understanding and supportive, adding it was not an easy decision for him to take.

“Chennai were very understanding and very supportive, as have been Yorkshire. It’s never an easy decision. But, nonetheless, it’s the right decision,” the 29-year old said.

“I need to put my family first and cricket’s secondary to that. We’ll get that sorted and then I can concentrate on cricket.”

Last year, Willey was called up as a late replacement for an injured Kedar Jadhav by CSK and had been retained by the defending champions.

Days after the report was published and also went viral in social media networking sites, NCA has clarified that the association and its officials were unaware of any such matter but they have taken it with utmost seriousness. The matter has been taken up with the anti-corruption unit of the cricket board and the investigating agencies have been assured of all possible assistance and cooperation, P Bendang Jamir, vice president, NCA stated in a press release.

It may be mentioned that three aspiring cricketers from Delhi had claimed that they were duped by the cricket boards of three states including Nagaland as per the reports published.

According to a March 14 PTI report, three aspiring Delhi cricketers -- Kanishk Gaur and Kishan Attri of Rohini and Shivam Sharma from Gurgaon -- were allegedly duped of Rs 80 lakh on the pretext of getting them selected in the Ranji Trophy teams of Nagaland, Manipur and Jharkhand.

They were instead given fake selection letters. A case against this alleged duping has been lodged after the BCCI cricket board filed a police complaint.

Gaur told police that he was approached by a cricket coach last year who offered him a spot in the Ranji Trophy team of Nagaland as a guest player, a senior police officer said. The coach

later called him to meet the Nagaland cricket team’s official coach and some members of their board. He was asked to pay Rs 15 lakh for five matches, the officer said. But after playing two matches for the under-19 team of Nagaland, he was asked not to play and when he inquired, Gaur was told that his selection letter was forged, the officer said.

Around eleven people, including coaches as well as state cricket board members are being questioned in connection with the case, the police was quoted as saying in a PTI report.

Speaking to this Correspondent, joint secretary of NCA, A. Rahman said, “We have nothing to do, as a fraud has taken money where we don’t know how one give money to anyone.”

He added that it was a hyped case to defame the NCA. “We are ready to face any investigations by the anticorruption unit to clear this mess” he said.

NCA is working hard to become a full fledged association and we have even moved to Supreme Court to get our rights, but some elements in different part of India are against it and as such it is one way to stop progress of NCA, said Rahman.

“Among all new states of BCCI members, NCA has the best facilities as such they want NCA to fall back.

N e w D e l hi , M a r 30 (Agencies): Delhi Capitals won the tightly fought match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Delhi won the match after it went into a super over. Prithvi Shaw’s 99 run knock overshadowed Andre Russell’s inning.

Andre Russell comes in to Kolkata’s rescue once again as they finished the innings at 185-8. Russell

also earned the orange cap after his 62 run knock.

Shreyas Iyer led Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kolkata didn’t have an ideal start as their top order was demolished by Delhi’s fierce bowling attack. Chris Lynn and Nikhil Naik opened the batting and their partnership was broken for just 16 runs.

pionship at DTRP indoor stadium, Guwahati on Saturday.

State taekwondo coach, department of Youth Resources and Sports, Visabiu Peseyie informed that first gold medal was won

by Hinglakpo in under 49 kg cadet category with 10-8

points in the final match.

T. Kiutsu secured a silver medal in under 41 kg cadet category.

Nagaland has four medals with one gold, two silvers and one bronze medal in the medal tally. The championship will conclude on Sunday evening.

Shreyas Iyer scored 32-ball 43 before he was dismissed by Andre Russell while attempting a shot.

Rishabh Pant came in and scored 15-ball 11 before he

was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. Hanuma Vihari was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav for just 2 runs. 2 runs needed off 1 ball, Colin Ingram was on strike and he hit the ball to take one run and the match ended in a draw. So this game became the first match of IPL 2019 to go into a super over.

Delhi Capitals came in to bat again with Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, Iyer hit a four and got out off the next ball. Prithvi Shaw then came in and scored two runs. Prasidh Krishna did a good job to restrict Delhi for 10 runs.

Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik came in to bat for Kolkata Knight Riders with Kagiso Rabada coming to bowl. Russell came in and hit the first ball for four. The second ball was a dot by Rabada and the third ball he bowled him out.

Earlier in the first match of the day, Kings XI Punjab registered a comfortable 8-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians.

Sala crash pilot ‘not qualified to fly at night’

London, M a r 3 0 (IANS): The pilot of the plane which crashed into the English Channel with Argentine football player Emiliano Sala on board was not qualified to fly at night, the BBC reported. Sala, 28, died when the plane carrying him from Nantes to Cardiff crashed on January 21. Regulatory authorities said that David Ibbotson was thought to have been colour-blind, which prevents pilots from flying at night. They have confirmed that Ibbotson, from Crowle, North Lincolnshire, did not hold a “night rating” on his UK private pilot’s licence.

“Colour-blindness stops a pilot from obtaining a night rating straight away, because being able to differentiate between green and red lights is key to flying in the dark,” an aviation source told the BBC. While Sala’s body was recovered from the wreckage of the plane in February, Ibbotson’s body has not been found.

London, M a r 3 0 (Agencies): Top-class goals from Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero took Manchester City back to the top of the Premier League in a 2-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

City’s seventh successive league victory keeps alive their hopes an unprecedented quadruple of League Cup, Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League trophies this season.

Dimapur, Mar 30 (NPN): To commemorate Platinum Jubilee of the Battle of Kohima fought during World War II, a bike rally was flagged off from Tsiesema Basa for a challenging rally across Nagaland. The event is a joint effort of Assam Rifles and citizens of Nagaland.

During the rally, 43 bikers will touch nearly all major towns of Nagaland

including Kohima, Pfutsero, Kiphire, Tuensang, Mon, Mokokchung, Zunheboto and Wokha covering a distance of more than 1050 Km. The rally constitutes both women and men bikers and will be flagged in at the Jotsoma Auditorium (RCEMPA) on April 4.

Speaking at the flagging off ceremony, Commander 5 Sector Assam Rifles exhorted all riders

to forge bonhomie during the drive. He also reminded them of the great contribution by the Naga people during the Battle of Kohima and that peace is the only solution as embodied in the motto of the 75th Anniversary of Battle of Kohima i.e Remembrance – Reconciliation – Rebirth.

In a similar event, Tuensang Battalion in collaboration with civil

administration and NGOs of Tuensang district also flagged off a motorcycle rally on March 30 at Parade Ground, Tuensang.

The riders will cover a distance of 475 Kms along Tuensang–Mon– Mokokchung–Zunheboto.

About 900 students of St Joseph School, Tuensang accompanied by 23 teachers witnessed the flag off ceremony.

India Open: Srikanth into final; Sindhu crashes out Poch cannot guarantee Spurs stay New Delhi, Mar 30 (PTI): Former champion Kidambi Srikanth reached title round after a 17-month drought but P V Sindhu bowed out after losing a close semifinal contest at the USD 350,000 India Open here Saturday.

Olympic silver medallist Sindhu, who had won the event in 2017, blew four game points in the opening game to go down fighting 21-23 18-21 to China’s He Bingjiao.

The third seed will face two-time champion Ratchanok Inthanon of Thailand in the finals Sunday.

In the men’s singles semi-finals, Srikanth used his flat tosses and deep lifts to engage his rival into rallies but Huang was also up to the task before the Indian managed to held a 11-10 lead at the first break.

The duel continued before the Chinese moved to a 18-14 lead after the Indian lost a few points at the net.

Srikanth saved two game points with a cross court smash and a precise net shot before hitting wide to lose the first game.

Srikanth came on his own, opening up a 8-4 lead after playing some exceptional strokes. A couple of smashes took him closer to the 11mark at the interval.

The Indian continued to dominate the proceedings after the breather and roared back into the contest when the Chinese hit the net.

In the decider, Srikanth was a step ahead initially but a wrong line call, a smash going wide and a net error

allowed the Chinese to make it 8-7. The Indian, however, ensured a slender 11-10 lead at the break.

After the change of sides, Srikanth constructed the rallies but ended up hitting wide and long to fall 15-17.

A precise on-the-line smash helped him to draw parity 18-18. He pounced on to a weak return and then grabbed two match points after Huang hit wide. The

Bingjiao quickly grabbed two points to take two match points. Sindhu then sent the next shuttler to the net to bow out.

Mauricio Pochettino

London, M a r 3 0 (Agencies): Mauricio Pochettino says he cannot be sure that he will be Tottenham manager next season.

Pochettino had been linked with the vacant positions at Manchester United and Real Madrid, but with the respective appointments of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Zinedine Zidane, interest in the Argentine has ended.

But Pochettino knows things change in football far too quickly to take anything for granted.

Asked whether he

could say he would definitely be at Spurs next season, he replied: “It does not depend only on me, it’s about Daniel (Levy). Of course I know he is happy with me and that is what he is telling me.”

“But I understand Tottenham is bigger than one person. Tottenham is bigger than one player, Tottenham is bigger than everything. Always, you need to feel my position here is I need to fight every day to keep my position.

That doesn’t mean I am not comfortable.” “Always I tell Jesus (Perez, assistant

manager), we need to think that maybe tomorrow if we don’t care about our position maybe we can go away quick. Football changes the same very quickly.”

“It’s difficult to say I am now happy and sure I will be here next season.
