No GST exemptions for NE, hill states: Minister Shukla NEW DELHI, MAR 22 (IANS): Central government on Thursday said that no exemptions from tax refund had been given to the North Eastern and hilly states under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime till March 2027. It said the GST Council had in September 2016 decided that all entities exempted from payment of indirect tax under the then-existing tax incentive scheme will have to pay tax in the GST regime. “It was also decided that the decision to continue with any incentive given to specific industries in existing industrial policies of states or through any schemes of the Central government shall be with the concerned state or Central government,” Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply. And in case the state or Central government decides to continue any existing exemption or incentive scheme, it shall be administered by way of a reimbursement mechanism through the budgetary route, he added.

Businessman shot at in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, MAR 22 (NPN): A non-Naga businessman was shot at by two unidentified armed miscreants, inside his grocery shop at Nagarjan area on Thursday at around 4.30 p.m. Police sources informed that the miscreants went to the shop in an auto rickshaw and shot the victim identified as one Joy Chandra (41) from a close range. Police recovered one empty shell of .22 pistol from the spot. The victim was rushed to a private hospital and a bullet was removed from his lower back, police said. Police said that more details will be known only tomorrow as investigation was on.

NAYO condemns

DIMAPUR, MAR 22 (NPN): Northern Angami Youth Organization (NAYO) has vehemently condemned the March 15, 2018 hit-andrun case at New Secretariat in Kohima where its bona fide member was killed. CNTC also conveyed its condolences to bereaved family members and prayed that Almighty God grant them courage in this great hour of distress and pain. They appealed to the authorities to award the perpetrators with stringent and most befitting punishment. VK area organisations stated that both the accused have been banished from the area for ten years starting from the day of completion of their conviction. The bodies cautioned

individuals or organisations against seeking bail for the two accused. “In doing so, he or she shall be solely responsible for any outcome that may arise following it,” they warned. Meanwhile, the three bodies have lauded the quick response of the administration headed by EAC VK Throngdiba Sangtam and PS VK headed by OC Temkhah Konyak in nabbing the perpetrators. Informing that a number of signboards have been placed along NH2 under its jurisdiction providing Helpline numbers, the organisations stated that any incident of accidents or anti social activity under its jurisdiction be reported immediately. The organisations also expressed their condolences over the death of late Lunkholal and shared the sorrows with the bereaved family members.
