on Friday, condemning the June 15 rape and sexual assault of two minors in Tuensang town by one Thunglim Lemba Chang. In Longleng, the protest rally, organized by Phomla Hoichem (Phom Women Organization) and Phom Students’ Conference (PSC), saw mass participation of people from all walks of life. People were seen holding placards and banners some of which read “No Bail, We want capital punishment for Rapist’’, “we won’t tolerate Rape in our Society” demanded stringent action against the accused. Speaking at the protest rally, Phomla Hoichem president, A. Shamthai Phom, condemned the “beastly and senseless act” and said that committing “barbaric and inhuman crime in broad day light is alien to Naga culture”. She said every right
thinking citizen should raise their voice and condemn such act in strongest term. Shamthai also demanded that responsible authority award “inconsiderate punishment” to the culprit without any prejudice so that justice was delivered to victims and their families. Phomla Hoichem president also extended solidarity with the family of the victims on behalf of the organization.Others who delivered short speeches included Metpong Phom, PSC vice president A.Mane Phom and PPC vice president Tenchem Phom and Chingong Phom. Meanwhile, a representation containing fourpoint demand was submitted to DC Longleng seeking speedy initiation and positive action on the matter. In Tuensang, a silent procession was carried out,
led by Eastern Nagaland Women’s Organisation (ENWO) Tuensang unit, attended by thousands of women from different tribes. Five programmes were held during the procession at five different locations, ENWO Tuensang unit president, Bahla informed. The procession began from Chang Church junction led by Akehda Sangtamlaru Thsingmujang (AST). The second programme was held at High School junction, which was led by the Phomla Hoichem Tuensang unit. NONGKREM (MEGHALAYA), JUN 23: Government of India has no plans to re-enter into a cease-fire agreement with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K), an official said on Friday. “We have no plans (resigning the ceasefire agreement). Let’s give sometime for things to settle down and it is too early to comment on it,” chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Group, D.K. Pathak told journalists here at the Assam Rifles headquarters.
Pathak’s statement is significant following the recent appointment of Khango Konyak as the chairman of the NSCN (K) after the demise of former chief S.S. Khaplang on June 9. Earlier, Nagaland chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu had stated that NSCN (K) chairman SS Khaplang had conveyed his willingness to have dialogue with the Government of India for an early solution to the Naga political problem. Liezietsu also said that the Nagaland government had been sending delegations to meet the NSCN (K)
leadership in Myanmar in recent times to convince the group to re-enter into the peace process with the Indian government to find an early solution to the Naga political problem. However, he said Khaplang passed away before the protracted Naga political problem could be taken forward to its logical conclusion. NSCN (K) faction, abrogated the ceasefire with the Government of India on March 27, 2015, just a month before the truce was up for renewal. The group had signed the peace pact in 2001.

4-lane road issue: NSCN (I-M) denies involvement DIMAPUR, JUN 23 (NPN): NSCN (I-M) through its MIP has denied its involvement in stalling the four-lane road project work, and instead pointed out that the “so called misunderstanding related to the halting of works was purely within the NCSU.” MIP said, when the work was halted on June 16, its officials had enquire from the engineers for the reason behind it. MIP said the engineers informed the officials that the work was suspended since it had rained heavily the previous day. However, MIP said social medias and section of the print media had gone to the fullest “directly pointing fingers at the NSCN blaming for halting works.” (Full text on p-6)
NPF hits back at NPCC, its president DIMAPUR, JUN 23 (NPN): Media & Press Bureau (M&PB) of the NPF has issued a stinging rejoinder to the statement from NPCC which had attacked NPF for declaring support to the NDA candidate in the forthcoming presidential election on July 17,2017. The M&PB slammed NPCC president K. Therie by asking what did he want to prove by continuously attacking NPF president and chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsü. NPF said NPCC and Therie have “no moral right to grumble or question” the decision of NPF to maintain the alliance with NDA or another party at the Centre. It said Therie has “absolutely no right” even to question NPF-led DAN gover nment in supporting or not supporting any someone’s presidential candidate. M&PB said NPCC was well aware the NPF had always formed alliance with non-Congress parties since 1977 even before formation of the BJP and that the alliance was “renewed and strengthened in the early party of 2003” with formation of a non-Congress alliance- DAN. M&PB reminded that Therie himself was once minister under DAN and knows the principles of NPF. However, P&MB said Therie now was trying to decide for NPF on whom it should support as president. Shillong misses ‘Smart City’ list Gangtok, Aizawl and Pasighat selected SHILLONG, Jun 23: Shillong city, one of the oldest cities in the Northeastern region of the country has once again failed to make it to the Smart City List, for the fourth time. The government has on Friday announced the fourth list of smart cities, adding 30 names to the existing 60 cities that are under transformation. Out of the four th list released by the centre today, three cities from the Northeast made it to the list and they are — Aizawl in Mizoram, Gangtok in Sikkim and Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh. The Smart City Mission launched on 25 June 2015 now has 90 cities under it. The new batch of smart cities was announced by Minister of Urban Development and Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation M Venkaiah Naidu at a national workshop on urban transformation. ‘Unlucky Shillong’ have been wondering for the past two years why it couldn’t make it to the list. This has certainly raised many questions in the minds of the people even as the urban affairs department is disappointed over this failure of Shillong to seal a spot in the list. Announcing the names, Naidu said 45 cities contested for 40 available smart city slots but only
30 were selected to ensure feasible and workable plans that match the aspirations of the citizens. Naidu said the 30 cities have proposed a total investment of Rs 57,393 crore, including Rs 46,879 crore for ensuring core infrastructure and Rs 10,514 cr for technologybased solutions. Thiruvananthapuram has topped the list of new smart city list. Names of smart cities announced on Friday are: Naya Raipur, Rajkot, Amaravati, Patna, Karimnagar, Muzaffarpur, Puducherry, Gandhinagar, Srinagar, Sagar, Karnal, Satna, Bengaluru, Shimla, Dehradun, Tiruppur, Pimpri C h i n c h wa d , B i l a s p u r, Pasighat, Jammu, Dahod, Tirunelveli, Thootukkudi, Tir uchirapalli, Jhansi, Aizawl, Allahabad, Aligarh, Gangtok. BJP will unite SWAMUC threatens govt wit stir anti-Left votes in Correspondent Jun 23: Students of Manipur University of Tripura: Sarma IMPHAL, Culture Friday threatened to launch a series of agitations Agartala, Jun 23 (IANS): The BJP will try to form a rainbow alliance to consolidate anti-Left Front votes to oust the ruling coalition in Tripura in assembly polls in February next year, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday. “The Bharatiya Janata Party is yet to decide on its electoral alliances. We are now working to consolidate anti-Left votes and to strengthen our party’s organisational base,” he told reporters here. He said, “Those Trinamool Congress and Congress MLAs keen to join the BJP should first cast votes in favour of NDA Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind on July 17. Except for the CPI-M, we urge legislators of all other parties to vote for Kovind.” Sarma addressed several public and organisational meetings during his two-day visit to the state. As for speculations that all six Trinamool Congress and one of the three Congress legislators might join the BJP, Sarma said: “Except for a few, our doors are open for all. No development has taken place in Tripura during the 24-year rule of the Left Front. Unemployment is very high, crime against women is rising and the poor and backward people are deprived,” he added.
if the government fails to meet its demand within July 15. While condemning the awful condition of the university, Students’ Welfare Association of Manipur University of Culture (SWAMUC) asked the government to release funds for running the university. Addressing a news conference, SWAMUC spokesperson, Y Homeshwor alleged that owing to non-release of fund by the government, the university authority could not commence the session for second semester of BA courses till date. Even after one year of its establishment, Manipur University of Culture is being run without proper infrastructures and funds to run the institute, the spokesperson said. He, therefore, said that concerned authorities of the Manipur government should release the funds so that the university authority can begin the session for second semester and continue the academic activities. Government should also take up steps for setting up permanent campus, he added. The student leader warned that they will launch a series of protest if the government fails to fulfill the demands of the students by July 15. Manipur University of Culture was established through an Act of Manipur State Assembly, The Manipur University of Culture Bill 2015.

Mob strips, lynches deputy SP in Srinagar
CM Mehbooba Mufti laying a wreath at the coffin of slain DSP Mohammed Ayub Pandith. Srinagar, June 23 (IANS): A mob stripped and lynched a senior police officer in the grand mosque of Srinagar, triggering widespread outrage. Hundreds attended the funeral of 57year-old Deputy Superintendent of Police Muhammad Ayub Pandit even as two persons were arrested. “All those involved in the officer’s murder will be brought to justice,” said DGP S.P. Vaid, adding that a third person has been identified and a manhunt has been launched to trace him. Pandit was deployed at Srinagar’s largest mosque, the Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of Srinagar’s old city. He was deployed on frisking (access control) duty at the mosque to ensure that nobody enters the holy place with weapons to harm Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and
other devotees inside. Mirwaiz Umer leads the Friday prayers at the mosque and on all other holy occasions. What has shocked people about his killing is that he was killed during the holiest night of the Islamic calendar -- ‘Shab-e-Qadr’. Pandit was reportedly clicking pictures of the crowd outside the grand mosque to which some people objected. Surrounded by an irate mob, the officer fired from his service revolver to free himself, injuring three persons. However, the mob overpowered him, stripped him and beat him to death. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who attended the wreath laying ceremony at the district police lines, condemned the brutal killing. “He had allowed all his personal security guards to
go home and observe the Shab-e-Qadr at their native mosques. “He performed his duties trusting the goodwill of the people whose lives he was protecting. His murder is actually a murder of trust,” she said. “Jammu and Kashmir Police is one of the finest police forces in the country. They exercise maximum restraint while dealing with the law and order situation. I fear what will happen if this police force loses its patience,” she said. Senior ministers Naeem Akhtar, Altaf Bukhari and Haq Khan were also present at the Police Lines besides senior civil, police and paramilitary officers. Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh termed the killing “highly condemnable”. “It is murder and police would take strongest action against those who were involved.” DGP Vaid said the lynching of the officer had proved that “very little difference is now left in Kashmir between humanity and barbarism”. Former state Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah condemed the killing, saying “His death is a tragedy and the manner of his death a travesty. May the people who lynched DySP Pandith burn in hell for their sins.”
GJM demands CBI probe into death of three activists
Bimal Gurung Ko l k at a , J u n 2 3 (IANS/PTI): Blaming the West Bengal government and senior officers for the killing of three GJM activists in police firing on June 17, Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) chief Bimal Gurung on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the deaths. “Our three activists were killed in police firing, for which police authorities must face consequences... There should be a CBI probe. I urge the Centre to order a CBI inquiry,” Gurung said. “The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Darjeeling and the West Bengal government should take responsibility for the deaths,” said Gurang, who is in hiding for more than a week ever since police raided his house. Police have confirmed one death and maintained no shots were fired by security forces. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also echoed the view. On the other hand, the GJM chief claimed visual evidence for the three deaths in police firing.
“We have video footage of the police firing and also the cartridges that hit our activists,” Gurang said, denying that the protesters fired during the violence. Gurung accused the police of raiding his residence without proper warrant and vowed to intensify the agitation in the Darjeeling hills and continue with the indefinite shutdown to fight for Gorkhaland. Gurung, who headed the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, said he had resigned from the body along with other GJM members and said they will burn the law pertaining to GTA in public on June 27 as a symbolic protest.
HC directs notice be served on GJM chief
The Calcutta High Court today directed that notice be served on the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung by all means possible in a PIL challenging the indefinite bandh called by the party in the Darjeeling hills. A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Nishita Mhatre and Justice T Chakraborty directed the Darjeeling superintendent of police to serve the notice personally on Gurung or send it to his office. If any of these were not possible, the notice, along with a copy of the petition and today’s order, be pasted on the walls of Gurung’s office, it said.
Pathankot, Gurdaspur on high alert after terror threat
Chandigarh, Jun 22 (PTI): Security agencies in border districts of Pathankot and Gurdaspur in Punjab were today on high alert following inputs that Pakistan-backed terrorists were planning to carry out an attack. “We are on alert following an input which was received today,” Gurdaspur SSP Bhupinderjit Singh Virk said over phone. Security has also been tightened in Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts. “We have been checking vehicles. Besides, checking is also being conducted at railways station and bus
stands,” the SSP said. Pathankot SSP Vivek Sheel Soni said the police was fully alert to thwart any attempt of anti-national elements. Punjab police has already provided nine bulletproof tractors to Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts to deal with any such threat. Last month, an alert was issued by Jammu Police, claiming that some footprints of intruders were spotted in Kathua. Dinanagar in Gurdaspur and the Air Force base in Pathankot were attacked by terrorists in July, 2015 and January, 2016, respectively.

New Delhi, Jun 23 (IANS): NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind on Friday filed his nomination here for the July 17 Presidential elections and pledged to uphold the dignity of the country’s top constitutional post. Kovind, 71, filed the papers in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah and Chief Ministers of states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies as well as parties backing him. BJP leaders said another set will be filed on June 28, the last date for filing nominations in the election which will see the former Bihar Governor take on opposition candidate and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar. A former BJP MP, Kovind told the media after filing his nomination that he has had no party affiliation since he became the Bihar Governor after Modi took power in New Delhi in 2014. “The President’s post carries a lot of dignity. My effort will be to keep the post above party politics. I promise I will try my best to uphold the dignity of this office. Popular chorus
ecent news that made the headlines during the past weeks, have once again, raised the core issue of criminalisation of politics and its consequent adverse affect on the country’s polity. India boasts of being the world’s largest democracy but merely holding periodic elections does not qualify it to be a genuinely democratic country. Money and muscle power have been the driving force of elections. This newspaper had exposed how elections were conducted with photographs of underage voters queuing up to cast votes. In other scenes, agents seen distributing cash to those who had just voted. The more a person votes, the more that many more cash is given. It was indeed free and fair(since every candidate indulge in them). Voter turn out in Nagaland has never been below 85% whereas the national average being around 65%. That alone is indicative of malpractices starting from error-ridden electoral rolls. Therefore, the recent highlight given over the overdue need to rid Nagaland election of electoral evils is well intended. The move was set in motion during mid-2012 on the eve of the 2013 election. However, the objective was not pursued with the commitment and determined strategy required to undertake such a herculean task. The complaints against undemocratic means and methods used for several decades to elect leaders through a socalled democratic process have gone unheeded except the little lament by some in the media or an eleventh hour appeal made by church leaders. Today, everybody seems to be talking about and taking a stand on ‘clean election’. The imagery is replete with politically ( now socially) correct prescriptions of freedom and fairness. True, that essence of democracy lies in the manner in which the process ensures free and fair choice without fear or favour. Further more, the essence of true democracy is the participative nature and quality of democratic governance. Candidates have been blamed for having used every means, both fair and foul, to beat rival and win by hook or by crook. Of course, the public from all strata of society are also responsible for the degeneration of electoral practices . During the past decades, criminalisation of politics has been so widespread that it has evolved in politicisation of crime. Law breakers become law makers and that is how politics needs cleansing. It is not about using methods to fight elections but the antecedents of candidates. No longer do the sense of justice over right and wrong morally or legally exists. It is now common knowledge that a number of elected representatives to local bodies, state legislatures and even Parliament are persons of unsavoury reputation and, some of them hardened criminals. Despite debates about electoral reforms and the cleansing act at various fora the rising trend of criminalisation of politics only underline that the overwhelming sections of the political class have accepted this horrifying trend as a matter of routine. There are still areas left uncovered by covenant signed by the church with political parties so it would be wise to take a very serious look to realise that if the efforts do not succeed it would be like the treatment turning out to be worse than the disease.
DailyDevotion “Acquainted With Grief” He is…a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. —Isaiah 53:3 We are not “acquainted with grief” in the same way our Lord was acquainted with it. We endure it and live through it, but we do not become intimate with it. At the beginning of our lives we do not bring ourselves to the point of dealing with the reality of sin. We look at life through the eyes of reason and say that if a person will control his instincts, and educate himself, he can produce a life that will slowly evolve into the life of God. But as we continue on through life, we find the presence of something which we have not yet taken into account, namely, sin— and it upsets all of our thinking and our plans. Sin has made the foundation of our thinking unpredictable, uncontrollable, and irrational. We have to recognize that sin is a fact of life, not just a shortcoming. Sin is blatant mutiny against God, and either sin or God must die in my life. The New Testament brings us right down to this one issue— if sin rules in me, God’s life in me will be killed; if God rules in me, sin in me will be killed. There is nothing more fundamental than that. The culmination of sin was the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and what was true in the history of God on earth will also be true in your history and in mine— that is, sin will kill the life of God in us. We must mentally bring ourselves to terms with this fact of sin. It is the only explanation why Jesus Christ came to earth, and it is the explanation of the grief and sorrow of life.

Story of Naga club and Simon Commission petition T
T
he Naga Club changed the History of the Naga. Many Writers have written about it, some overdosed, others underdosed. This Writer made an attempt to bring it out ‘it is as it is’ for future generations to reminiscence it. If you like read on. I. FORMATION OF NAGA CLUB. Many Naga assume the Naga Labor Corp that went to Europe in 1917 on their return at the end of the World War I, 1914-1918, organized the Naga Club. Dr. Khosa Zinyü who was the highest ranking Naga Officer that went with the Naga Labor Corp, his younger son Late Jasokie Zinyü, former Chief Minister of Nagaland told this Writer: “The idea of a forming Naga Club was formed seeing the European Club at the Kohima Town Hall (now renovated Committee Stone Building) where all the white People in the HQ in those bygone days used to gather every evening for Drinking, Dancing, Singing and spend their leisure together in recreation; the Doss & Co supplied the Drinks and the Provisions the Club required”. “No Non-Whites, Indians or the Naga were ever allowed into the white Club. It was exclusively for the Europeans only. The Native Government Servants took the cue to form a similar native Body”. It is said Rheichalie Pienyü Peshkar (JH. Hutton wrote his name as Hrichalie) of the DC Office was one of the first to moot the Idea of the Native Government Servants forming a Naga Club, not the Naga Labor Corp Returnees that returned from Europe. None of the Returnees except Dr. Khosa is found in the list of the Simon Commission Petition. The Naga Labor Corp that went to Europe in support of the allied War affords, dug Trenches, collected left-over ammunitions, empty Shells, Arms, dead bodies, carried abandoned materials, Boots, Helmets etcetera and did all other works of cleaning the litters of the War in the battle
S
field, than did sight-seeing in France. When Dr. Khosa Zinyü of Khonoma Village left, he had just immediately before married his wife who arrived in their house clean shaven young girl in the tradition of the Angamis. In days of yore the shrewd Angami did not immediately live as husband and wife for a few months after marriage to ensure production of his own pedigree only! After the War Dr. Khosa was taken to England and worked there for quite some time before he returned back. When he came Home, he found one young girl with long hairs doing various chores in the House. Khosa asked his mother who the young Lady was and she said him: “she is your Wife!” Doctor Khosa must have been paid very handsomely in the UK, he was a very generous Man and on his return to Kohima presented Rs. 13/-, -a very big sum in those days, to each of a few of his close friends including my father. Another educated Member of the Labor Corp was the well known first generation Naga Student in Shillong, Mr. Guizao Meru of Nakama Zeliang Village. He was the 1st Head Master of the Impur Mission School. He died at Impur in 1918 of the serious Influenza epidemic they Ccntracted in Europe. The native Government employees of the Naga Club and put up a Building first at Chotobosti” on the eastern side of the Mission Compound below Baptist High School (now Americanized ‘Baptist High’) at the site the Tsütuonuomia Thinuo buildings now Stand. Some Years after its formation, for the first time on 10th January 1929, some 20 Interpreters and Employees of the Government submitted a formal Petition to the Simon Commission in the name of the Naga Club. None of the Labor Corps members is among the signatories except Dr. Khosa Zinyü, who was a Government Doctor. The Absence of the labor corp
member among the signatories of the Simon Commission Letter gives a clue that the Naga Club was composed of the Government Servants only and no other civilians, not even village Gamburas. II. SIMON COMMISSION PETITION. Late Teacher Rüzhükhrie told this Writer: “One early morning, I saw some Dobashis coming one after another together in a line to my house (at Mission Compound, Kohima). I asked, ‘what are you People together up to this Morning?’ They said, “‘we are coming to request you to write something of what we would like to tell a very high Visitor is said to be coming soon to Kohima from Outside. The ‘Borchaha’ (angami for the DC, JH. Hutton) has informed us a High Officer is coming soon from outside to find out how the Naga would like to be governed in future.’ ‘You are the only one at the moment in Kohima educated in the white man’s Language and therefore we have come to you to write in their language of how we would like us governed in future and give the Petition to the Officer when he comes.” Teacher Rüzhükhrie had just then done his Intermediate Arts from Saint Paul’s College Calcutta and was serving as Assistant Teacher at the Government High School Kohima now known after his Name. The DC told Neihu Rame of Kohima Village the Head Dobashi at the Court of the Deputy Commissioner of Naga Hills, Dr. J.H. Hutton, 1917-1935, that a big Officer is coming to Kohima to enquire how the Naga would like to be looked after in future. Neihu told the DC that he (Neihu) does not speak the language of the white man and therefore that the DC may please tell the Visitor the Naga would like to live like they were before the white man came to their land. The DC replied he is not a Naga Dobashi and that the Naga should themselves tell or write in Paper what they would like to say and give it
NSCN (I-M) clarifies on 4-lane project issue
to the Visitor. Teacher Rüzhükrie drafted the Letter with a Pencil and together with the Draft they went up to the DC Bangalow. (Generations later Ramuni the Commissioner of Nagaland, took the Draft from Rüzhükhrie and never returned it back). Rüzhükhrie greeted the DC: “‘Good Morning Sir’, but the Borchaha did not acknowledge my Greeting in English and only talked with the Dobashis in Assamese and said “itu ‘kukur yat ki kuri ase?”. The Writer’s father in the early days, once while going up to Mokokchung saw the SDO in the Road coming down to Impur. He gave way to the SDO and his entourage and greeted him in English from the side of the Mule Tract, but the SDO did not acknowledge the greeting, and simply passed by. My father never greeted him again afterwards! (The principle Policy of the colonial Officials in those days was to keep the White Men of the Sarkar in awe of the Natives. Every white Officer was to maintain himself aloof from familiarity with the Natives and guard the Natives from their propensity to imitate the Whites. Nearly a generation after, a friend went to America for Training and came back married with a young English Lady and narrated to me how when he met Mr. Hutton in retirement at London and was a completely changed person, very friendly, civil and nice to him). Jasokie said a Khasi Officer, Hariblah, an EAC at the DC Office Kohima assisted in the Petition to the Simon Commission. Many years after, in 1990s, Vilavor Liegise, the so-called Secretary of Naga Club said Teacher Rüzhükhrie also narrated to ‘him and his group’ of his drafting of the Simon commission Petition. he NSCN/GPRN have been overseeing all kinds of developmental Projects being undertaken within Nagalim to see that works are executed according to the specifications and quality is maintained for the good of the Naga people and the ongoing constructions of 4 Lanes Road between Dimapur and Kohima is no exception. From time to time the NSCN have been reminding the ECI and Maytas Gayatri to ensure that works quality is maintained and completed within the stipulated time. They have also been strictly instructed that for the ongoing works the local Labourers and workers are employed. Whereas, it was found that, construction works was halted on 16 June, 2017. Therefore, the NSCN/ GPRN Officials enquired from the Engineers working in the fields as to why works were stopped and they responded that, as it rained heavily they suspended the works on the previous day. Now by 17 June, 2017, Social Medias and print media has gone to the fullest directly pointing fingers at the NSCN blaming for halting works. Unrecognized and un-mandated organization like ACAUT and the likes of KK Sema and Joel Rengma joined the Bandwagon. Even the Governor of Nagaland, Mr. Padmanabhaiah B. Acharya was pressurized to such extent that he also rushed to Delhi and complained to the Union Home Minister, Mr. Rajnath Singh. Now adding to all these, the so called ACAUT had the audacity to give 3 days ultimatum to the NSCN/GPRN making a big joke of themselves. When the NCSU were reached out and enquired as to what kind of game they are playing, they said that it was just a “communication gap” within the NCSU itself and it will be clarified through the News papers the next day. That “next day” went on and on and on while giving a free hand to the Medias and Social Medias to play havoc against the NSCN/GPRN. At last, Mr. Pele, President of the NCSU, who has been playing all the games from behind was summoned by the Hon’ble Kilo Kilonser, Mr. Hukavi Yepthomi on 21st. June, 2017. After thorough discussions, Mr. Pele, President of NCSU, admitted that, he is using Mr. Neibu Angami, Deputy Kilonser from Unification Camp ( GPRN/NSCN) as his works Supervisor. He also admitted that he will clarify the matter for making the Medias make false allegations against the NSCN/GPRN. But whereas, the clarification of the NCSU in local papers on 23 June,2017 mentioned about agreement on 21st.June to resume works on 22nd June which came as a big surprise to the NSCN because the NSCN is not dealing with NCSU but the NSCN deals with the Companies directly. The so called misunderstanding related to the halting of works was purely within the NCSU. Therefore, the general public is requested to kindly understand from that perspectives and refrain from unfounded and wild allegations. Issued by: MIP
My association with late S.S. Khaplang
ome time I thought, I could have joint government service or business or even some NGOs had not late. Baba. S.S. Khaplang encouraged me to joint Naga Movement. Infact, I am one of the patriot (Nationalist) who love the Naga cause but disliked the system and approach of our National Workers. In 1998, after the murdering of late. Tali Mongru, the then Ato Kilonser, NSCN (K) by NSCN (IM), Late. Baba. S.S. Khaplang invited me to Junnyu, the NSCN (K) CHQ. And offered me to serve in any position but I have rejected the offer because I did not liked to serve in any Naga faction due to their cruelness, rudeness only fighting for supremacy. Moreover, my heart was broken down seeing the tortured, beaten up and killing of faultless innocent Nagas by different Naga factions only to fear them. Above that, they were turmoil and unrest everywhere mainly created by NSCN (IM) and NSCN (K) where innocent Konyaks have been targeted and killed by NSCN (IM) merely on suspension branding all the Konyaks, the NSCN (K). Similar action on the part of NSCN (K) Konyak Region imposing un-payable fine on any village or individual only for paying tax or helping NSCN (IM). All these scenes discouraged me to join any faction and I prayed to God –“Oh! God, You may take away
my life instead of becoming NSCN (K) member as my people forced me to join”. I kept on rejecting the offer of NSCN (K) for almost 9 (Nine) years. However, on seeing the degenerating and eroding position of NSCN (K) in Indian side Naga Country, I felt pity on late. Baba. S.S. Khaplang ang Baba. Khole and ultimately I have physically enrolled to strengthen the 2 (two) Babas. Although, I was most junior among many senior worker, I helped late. Baba. S.S. Khaplang in all thick and thins situation and gradually we collectively consolidated NSCN (K) position in India side. During Baba. S.S. Khaplang life time, I have proved to him what I was for him and also for the Nation and he have acknowledged whom I am. In my entire carrier, I have never asked single penny from anybody nor did I received any amount from any one because I have never been in finance/Revenue Ministry. After 2011 June NSCN (K) split where General Khole and General Secretary, N. Kitovi formed their parallel organization in already established Khehoi Camp as NSCN (U) and expelled late. Baba. S.S. Khaplang, I was left alone with multiple challenges left and right including Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi who called me Myanmese. It was time, GoI firmly stood in favour of NSCN (U) and threaten to me to join the
2 (two) leaders. The Gol firmly decided to recognized NSCN (U) as genuine one and moved to de-recognize NSCN (K) but I stood like gentlemen in fought all thick and thins without S.S. Khaplang. I personally thanked P. Tikhak and Lincoln who joint my chorus and stood collectively in defence of S.S. Khaplang and NSCN (K), an ultimately we retrieved back Cease Fire with great hardship. Gradually, we convinced the MHA for Sub-Office in Dimapur, but it was attacked by NSCN (U) when I came for inauguration program on 18 and 19 December 2012. I thanked God that, He saved not only my life but also all my comrades who were with me inside a hut in Pudam Pukhuri, Dimapur. I had to face all such problems on behalf of late. Baba. S.S. Khaplang because he was not with me physically and run his government in India side Naga country in his absences. But all my sacrifices have gone ungratefully. In late. Baba. S.S. Khaplang’s government, I was all in all for both comforts and hardships but I have maintained all low status humbling down myself for the good of the people. On 9th April 2012, I have signed Historic Cease Fire with Myanmar and one time I was Convener, Cease Fire Group in both India and Myanmar under the stewardship of late. Baba. S.S. Khaplang. But selfish people painted fault colour
on my’ face to be hated by late Baba. S.S. Khaplang and they could succeed their plan. This selfish group misled late. Baba. to abrogate 14 (fourteen) years of Cease Fire with Gol which will no benefit the Nagas in any manner. Since late Baba was a vulnerable leader, selfish people had a big space to mislead him and every single year, I had to rush to Teka to convince late. Baba for Cease Fire extension. The above mentioned are small tips of my hardship when I was with Baba before selfish people convince for my expulsion. I thank the living God for His merciful guidance and all my endeavors. Whatever had happened cannot be undone, yet it will remain to be unfortunate events for all generation to come. I wish, when he was alive, let Baba should advice all his children (Both who were expelled or with him) to forgive one another for the good of next generation to come. I just cannot forget my Eastern Naga Brothers who were the part of both happiness and worryness together in all situations. I still remembered the crowed of Eastern Naga men and women tirelessly waiting at KHAMTI harbour for my arrival when I came on 7th April 2012 to sign Cease Fire Agreement with Union of Myanmar and the memory of the sense is still fresh in my mind. As also I cannot forget my beloved late. Baba. S.S. Khaplang who loved and trusted me
as his own son till selfish people misled him. Late. Baba weakness and old age was reasonable for me and all peace loving people, but for selfish people, it was great opportunity which was how things gone wrong. I always told Baba that, all lost Township of Eastern Nagaland like, Khamti and Homin (both board cities), Themanti, Tongdout should be retrieved back from Shan State while Tenai (board city) and Singbwing must be officially re-occupied from Kachin state through mutual understanding with both occupant tribes and Myanmar’s government instead of shouting for sovereignty.
I also told late. Baba, that without define territories and population, there can be no nation but selfish people misinterpreted my vision. My simple paint is, lost territories must precede the sovereignty issue which may take generation to generation. I felt extremely sorry for what happened but God will never leave selfish and culprit unpunished for they have broken the chains of love and affectionate not only between late. Baba and me but also between 2 (two) people that is Eastern Nagas and Western Nagas. Y. Wangtin Naga, President, NSCN/GPRN - Reformation

Can we be any more corrupt? Sir,
I had read in the newspaper that Rs. 8 crores was sanctioned for repairs of the City Tower- DC court junction road. I, for one, was ecstatic. I had thought that finally the road will be pot hole free. But alas!! We did what we do best. Filled up some potholes near Nutun Basti junction and that’s it. The road outside the Ao Church gives sends shivers down my spine but what is it to any of us? We are so used to being complacent about things that open corruption is but commonplace. As a public, asking questions does not bear any answers and the matter will soon be forgotten. Who is responsible for the bad roads even when funds are sanctioned?? The government? The contractor? Or us the public who do not even have the spine to ask for what is rightfully ours? May we continue to sit and marinate in our own apathy while “they” buy bigger cars to drive on the roads they did not repair. Alo Michael, Dimapur

(From p-1) M&PB advised Therie to display his political maturity and concentrate on what the NPCC can do in the presidential poll rather that waste time on “nonsense activities” such as poking his nose over the upcoming by election issue which was being dealt with by the ECI. M&PB asked what did Therie gain by complaining to the ECI against holding by election? Hitting Therie, P&MB said leaders who “hop from one party to another party, at the snap of the fingers for their selfish gains, should not, must not and cannot” question the integrity and principles of NPF “the party that has maintained its regional spirit since statehood.” M&PB cited reports that NPCC president and
his party’s Media Cell were hitting out against those pointing to misdeeds of the Congress in several decades which had almost ruined the country and the state. It said such attitude exposes the frustration and desperation of the party (NPCC) and its leadership. M&PB also claimed that talks in political circles suggest that Congress has lost its sense of direction and acting like it was in need of treatment rather than political rejuvenation. M&PB reminded Congress that its president that NPF as an alliance partner of NDA shall continue to uphold the alliance principles and will not stop to throw stones at every barking dog but would instead take people forward to their destination of peace, progress and prosperity.

New Delhi, Jun 23 (PTI): The Supreme Court today constituted a medical board of seven doctors of the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata to ascertain health of a 24-week pregnant woman wanting to undergo abortion on the grounds of foetus abnormality. A vacation bench of justices D Y Chandrachud and S K Kaul directed the medical board to submit the report by June 29 after ascertaining the health of the mother and the foetus. During the hearing, the counsel for the West Bengal government said it has been decided to constitute a team of seven doctors to ascertain the medical condition. The bench also noted a report of a doctor in which it was said that a
New Delhi, Jun 23 (IANS): The central government on Friday launched the “City Liveability Index” - a first of its kind initiative introduced by the Urban Development Ministry - to measure the quality of life in 116 major cities including capital cities and those with population over one million. “Time has now come to measure life quality in cities and rank them accordingly,” Urban Development Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu said while launching the Index at a National Workshop on Urban Transformation. The cities will be assessed on a comprehensive set of 79 parameters to capture the extent and quality of infrastructure including availability of roads, education and health care, mobility, employment opportunities, emergency response, grievance redressal, pollution, availability of open, green spaces, and culture. After selecting the agency for undertaking this assessment next month, data collection will be completed in the next about six months, Naidu said. On the occasion, the Urban Development Ministry also increased reform incentive fund for the next three financial years from Rs 900 crore to Rs 10,000 crore “to promote next generation reforms that would make a substantial

petitioners are seeking the appointment of a panel of doctors at a government hospital in Kolkata to examine the state of health of the first petitioner as well as of the foetus, we deem it appropriate that the matter be listed on June 23, 2017.” The petition, filed through advocate Sneha Mukherjee, had said that the woman had suffered immense mental and physical anguish after coming to know of the abnormalities in her 21st week of pregnancy. “This petition challenges the constitutional validity of section 3(2)(b) of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 (MTP) restricted to the ceiling of 20 weeks stipulated therein. “This challenge is to the effect that the 20 weeks stipulation for a woman to avail of abortion services under section 3(2)(b) may have been reasonable when the section was enacted in 1971 but has ceased to be reasonable today where technology has advanced and it is perfectly safe for a woman to abort even up to the 26th week and thereafter,” it said.

regulatory support, rising urbanisation, increasing nuclearisation of families and increasing affordability is converting latent demand into a commercially lucrative business opportunity, it said. Ind-Ra expects the sector to attract over Rs 200 billion of equity inflows over FY17-FY22 which would support growth. The agency, however, pointed out that aggressive expansion without ensuring appropriate credit assessment could be a risk for the segment, especially in view of limited financial data available and possibly less financial savvy customer segment.

fordable housing AUM is around Rs 1.5 trillion and it is expected to increase four times to Rs 6 trillion by FY22. The accelerated urbanisation on account of fast economic growth over the last decade-and-a-half has created massive need for affordable housing, it said. The agency anticipates a demand for 25 million homes, which is nearly four times of the entire current housing finance stock, over FY17-FY22 in the medium and lower income group categories. Mumbai, Jun 23 (PTI): The affordable housing finance segment is likely to grow to Rs 6 trillion in size in the next four years from Rs 1.5 trillion now, India Ratings said Friday. This will make the segment a major contributor to the overall housing finance activity. Affordable housing finance, largely dealing in loan ticket size of up to Rs 15 lakh, will become a large segment for housing finance companies (HFCs) in the next five years, with its market share estimated to increase to around 37 per cent in FY2022, the rating agency said. Globally, the greenback traded marginally lower against other major currencies on Thursday despite upbeat US housing sector data as traders turned their attention to the upcoming report on jobless claims. T h e d o l l a r i n d ex , which tracks the US currency against a basket of six major rivals, was down at 97.19. In cross-currency trades, the rupee bounced back against the pound sterling to close at 81.87 from 82.00 per pound, but dropped further against the euro to settle at 72.15 from 71.94 earlier.

RBI Governor Urjit Patel had argued for avoiding premature policy action citing “high uncertainty” on inflation outlook while voting for status quo on interest rates at the monetary policy review earlier this month, as per the minutes of the MPC meeting. Foreign funds continued to offload Indian equities worth Rs 152.82 crore yesterday, as per provisional data. The rupee opened a tad weak at 64.53 per dollar from overnight close of 64.52 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market. Soon, it recovered to hit a fresh intra-day high of 64.45 briefly in early morning before succumbing to dollar pressure once again. eastern offshore KG-D6 and other gas. The Election Commission wanted the new government to take a view and when the new NDA government came to power it rejected the formula. The formula would have lead to doubling of the gas price to USD 8.4 per million British thermal unit in 2014 but the rate would have been at almost the same level of USD 5.56 per mmBtu decided under the March 2016 formula for difficult fields. Sources said another arbitration automatically fell last year after RIL failed to name arbitrators within stipulated time for the challenge it had mounted against the Oil Ministry’s decision to take away five of its KGD6 block discoveries. BP had not participated in the February 2015 arbitration notice challenging the ministry’s decision to take away 814 sq km of its KG-D6 area that contained five gas discoveries for failure to develop them within stipulated time period. However, two other arbitration remain -- one against the government disallowing recovery of certain cost because the partners did not drill their committed number of wells leading to output lagging targets by a large margin.
Mumbai, Jun 23 (PTI): The rupee remained under pressure against the US dollar for the third-straight day today, depreciating 7 paise to end at a fresh 3-week low of 64.59 on steady demand of the US currency amid a global oil rout. Forex market traded with a broadly hesitant tone on growing uncertainty about global economic growth as sell-off in crude prices remained unabated, triggering volatility in financial markets. Demand for the greenback from banks and importers and little support from local share market too weighed on trade. This is the lowest closing for the home currency since May 30. Meanwhile, local equities relinquished strong early gains and ended almost flat in another cautious session as traders booked profit after the benchmark Sensex hit a fresh record high during the day amid bearish global sentiment. The government agreed to his suggestion but made it conditional upon companies withdrawing any legal proceedings or arbitration challenging government’s gas pricing policy. While RIL was noncommittal, BP made its intentions clear within days of the March 10, 2016 decision. BP India spokesperson had on March 12 stated that the “decision by the government on marketing including pricing freedom for new production from deep, ultra-deep water and highpressure, high-temperature areas provides clarity to end the pending gas pricing dispute.” And today, the spokesperson confirmed that the legal challenge has indeed been withdrawn. “Yes, the ‘gas price’ arbitration has already been withdrawn,” the spokesperson said. An email sent to RIL remained unanswered. RIL and BP had in May 2014 filed an international arbitration after the Election Commission forced deferment of implementation of a new pricing formula the previous UPA government had approved for pricing of RIL-BP’s

New Delhi, Jun 23 (PTI): Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries and its British partner BP plc have withdrawn a legal challenge they had mounted three years back against the government over delay in gas price revision. The withdrawal of the arbitration will now entitle the two companies to marketing and pricing freedom on the natural gas they produce from newer fields in the deepsea at an investment of Rs 40,000 crore by 2022. Sources said the two companies moved to withdraw the international arbitration before Ambani and BP CEO Bob Dudley met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 15 morning. They completed the process within days. That day, Ambani and Dudley, in a rare press appearance, announced restarting the investment cycle in their Krishna Godavari basin KG-D6 block after eight years hiatus by taking up of three sets of deepsea discoveries for development at a cost of Rs 40,000 crore. Dudley had in his previous meeting with Modi in January 2015 made a fervent pitch for extending the gas price premium to existing undeveloped gas fields in difficult areas like
Mumbai, Jun 23 (IANS): The Indian equity markets closed in the red on Friday as broadly negative global cues, coupled with caution ahead of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) implementation and heavy selling pressure subdued investor sentiments. The wider Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell by 55.05 points, or 0.57 per cent, to close at 9,574.95 points. ties to Qatar this month over allegations the Persian Gulf country funds terrorism an accusation that President Donald Trump has echoed. Those countries have now given Qatar 10 days to comply with all of the demands, which include paying an unspecified sum in compensation. Qatari officials in Doha did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the AP. But the list included conditions that the gas-rich nation had already insisted would never be met, including shutting down AlJazeera. Qatar’s government has said it won’t negotiate until Arab nations lift their blockade. The demands were also likely to elicit Qatari objections that its neighbors are trying to dictate its sovereign affairs by imposing such far-reaching requirements.

AN APPEAL TO THE CHIEF MINISTER OF NAGALAND FOR RETENTION OF SDO (CIVIL), RALAN Honourable Chief Minister Sir, With conviction and strong belief that the Government is for the welfare of the people, we the Village Council Chairmen and GBs of Ralan Area made this fervent appeal for the retention of Shri. Thungchanbemo Tungoe, SDO (Civil), Ralan. Sir, the wounds and scars are still yet to be fully healed after communal clashes between the Nagas and the Adivasis in August 2014. There are still many internal and other land issues which are yet to be resolved. The incumbent was posted to Ralan right after the conflict and he knows the entire issue. With the help and support of the area people the SDO (Civil) has been resolving the issue on daily basis. At this crucial juncture transferring him out has made us feel insecure and lost. Ralan Area needs the service of the incumbent the most at this point of time when the cultivation and tilling of lands are nearing. Clashes and irritants occur mostly during this time which may lead to major conflict. Sir, the Border area needs a sincere and dedicated Officer like Shri. Thungchanbemo Tungoe, the present SDO (Civil), Ralan, who is seen day and night on the field visiting every paddy field to resolve the land dispute/issue. We sincerely appeal to you Sir to kindly revoke his transfer order and retain him as SDO (Civil), Ralan. Chairman Yanpha Village Council Dist. Wokha, Nagaland DP-6501 OFFICE OF THE

Honourable Sir, We, the Pastors of the Ralan Area Baptist Churches Union (RABCU) fervently appeal your good Offices for the retention of Shri. Thungchanbemo Tungoe, SDO (Civil), Ralan, who has been transferred out in the recent 'transfer and posting' order. Sir, the incumbent is a God fearing, sincere and dedicated Officer. After his posting to Ralan, peace has ushered in the area due to his sheer dedication and sacrifice. Besides the many land issues, currently we are facing a very sensitive religious issue which created law and order problem in the area. With the intervention of the incumbent the situation has been saved. The issue is yet to be resolved. The incumbent knows the issue in detail and the matter is under study by him. Haq Kakar told Geo News that the suspected bomber in the car tried to break a security perimetre to target the police offices but blew up after policemen standing guard attempted to stop him. No one claimed responsibility for the attack, but Kakar blamed India for the blast. Balochistan has also been facing insurgency by Baloch nationalists and Islamist militants. Security officials also confirmed that the blast was the result of a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device which exploded after the “suspicious” driver was spotted by policemen. Warmbier death: N. Korea accuses US of ‘smear campaign’
SEOUL, JUN 23 (AFP): North Korea on Friday accused the US of waging a “smear campaign” over the death of a student who was sent back home in a coma, denying he was tortured or abused. President Donald Trump has slammed the treatment of 22-year-old American Otto Warmbier, who spent more than a year in detention in the secretive state, as “a total disgrace”. “The smear campaign against (North Korea) staged in the US compels us to make firm determination that... we should further sharpen the blade of law”, the foreign ministry spokesman said according to state media. “The US should ponder over the consequences to be entailed from its reckless and rash act,” he said in an apparent warning over the fate of three other US citizens currently being held in the country. The spokesman said that Warmbier was pro-
vided with proper medical treatment, and questioned why he died so soon after returning to the US. “The fact that Warmbier died suddenly in less than a week just after his return to the US in his normal state of health indicators is a mystery to us as well,” he said. Warmbier had been on a tourist trip to North Korea when he was detained and sentenced to hard labour early last year for allegedly stealing a po-
litical poster from a North Korean hotel. Doctors said the University of Virginia student had suffered severe brain damage while in North Korean detention. He died on Monday at a Cincinnati hospital and was buried on Thursday. His family declined an autopsy. The foreign ministry official denied that Warmbier was abused while in c u s t o dy, c o n d e m n i n g “groundless public opinion now circulating in the US
that he died of torture and beating during his reform through labour.” He said that North Korean medics had “brought him back alive” after his “heart was nearly stopped” but did not give any further details as to why he fell ill. The US doctors had also said that Warmbier’s severe brain injury was most likely -- given his young age -- to have been caused by cardiopulmonary arrest cutting the
blood supply to the brain. In the first official reaction to his death, a spokesman for the National Reconciliation Council earlier Friday said that Warmbier was treated according to “international standards”. “Those who have absolutely no idea about how well we treated Warmbier under humanitarian conditions dare to utter ‘mistreatment’ and ‘torture’,” he said according to the official KCNA news agency.

AN APPEAL TO THE CHIEF MINISTER OF NAGALAND FOR RETENTION OF SDO (CIVIL), RALAN Honourable Chief Minister Sir, We, the Ralan Area Eloe Hoho would like to knock at your door through this print media as we are not in a position to meet you personally at this juncture to discuss the burning Ralan issue. We are utterly shocked and sad that SDO (Civil), Shri. Thungchanbemo Tungoe has been transferred out from Ralan at this time when we need him and the Government the most. Sir, we understand that transfer and posting is a part and parcel of the Government servant. However, seeing the works of the incumbent SDO (Civil) with our own eyes, we strongly feel that his service is still required here at the border, Ralan. At the time when Ralan was burning because of the conflict between the Adivasi and Naga communities, Shri. Thungchanbemo Tungoe was posted as SDO (Civil) cum Border Magistrate, Ralan on people's demand, and right from the day one and till today he has been sacrificing for this area with utmost devotion and sincerity. Because of his dedication and hard work our fears are being removed gradually. Suddenly we were informed that he is being transferred out, like our hands and legs have been cut off. He knows the current Ralan issue inside-out and there are many border and other land related issues which are yet to be resolved. Sir, with folded hands we beg you to revoke his transfer order and retain him for the sake of the people of Ralan Area. We shall ever remain grateful to you sir. Jean-Claude Juncker, the EU chief executive, said: “That’s a first step, but this step is not sufficient.” In particular, the EU 27 want their citizens to be able to enforce their rights in Britain through the European Court of Justice, something May has flatly ruled out. They also dispute her attempt to limit those rights potentially to people already living in Britain before she triggered Brexit three months ago. Given the floor for 10 minutes at the end of a Brussels summit dinner, May outlined five principles, notably that no EU citizen resident in Britain at

Both the insulation and tiles at the tower had failed safety tests, with the insulation proving more flammable than the cladding, Scotland Yard’s Detective Superintendent Fiona McCormack said in a statement. The police will consider manslaughter charges, the Evening Standard newspaper quoted her as saying. The catastrophic Grenfell Tower blaze led to the death of at least 79 people last week while many more were left homeless. The number of dead is likely to still rise, said McCormack. “I fear there are more.” She said police had established that the initial cause of the blaze was a fridge-freezer in a flat at the fourth level and that the fire was not started deliberately, Xinhua news agency reported.

GENEVA/KINSHASA, JUN 23 (AGENCIES): The United Nations opened an investigation on Friday into killings in central Democratic Republic of Congo, though some Western countries and campaign groups said they had hoped it would have a stronger mandate. Kinshasa has been fighting insurgents in the Kasai region since August, triggering fears of a wider conflict in the large central African country, a tinderbox of ethnic rivalry and competing claims over mineral resources. Congo’s Catholic church said this week the violence had killed more than 3,300 people since October, with both government forces and the militia responsible for hundreds of deaths. The U.N.’s Human Rights Council, composed of 47 member states, adopted by consensus the resolution calling for an investigation, brought by African countries. Congo’s Ambassador Zénon Mukongo Ngay, addressing the Council, said President Joseph Kabila’s government would cooperate to shed light on atrocities.

Others would be allowed to stay until they reach the five-year threshold for “settled status”. Red tape for permanent residency would be cut and there would be a two-year grace period to avoid “cliff edge” misfortunes. But Brussels has been dismissive of May’s call for sweeping and quick guarantees for expats and says only detailed legal texts can reassure people and take into account many complex, multinational family situations, also involving non-Europeans. or those who came in late, Imlibenla Wati is a former Miss Nagaland and the first beauty queen from Nagaland to have won a national title pageant. She was crowned first runner up at Miss India Elite, 2015. She was also officially declared as Miss Asia Pacific-Super talent India 2016. Nagaland’s very own reigning Miss World Beauty India Imlibenla Wati also made history by being the first Naga lady to represent India at the Miss World Beauty Queen in South Korea and bagging the runner up title at the same competition. Here are the excerpts from the interview: Q* After all the success and accolades in beauty pageantry industry you went incognito. Can you enlighten us behind your absence? A- I chose to remain away from the spotlight, and also because of some personal commitments, I thought I will quit being in the industry rather take out time for myself and concentrate on various social works I am currently involved in. Q* Judging by your active involvement in social activities, do the people see you joining politics in the future? A- Well, It is not my ultimate focus to join politics as of now but as a concerned citizen, we ought to be aware of the policies of the government and how it affects everyone because politics touches all the
spectrum of our lives. Q* By the way, what prompted you to follow this path of social activism when you have a bright future in glamour industry? A- I grew up in a humble family and ever since I was a child I was socially active and I also realized the need of good leaders to shape the progress of the society. Speaking from my personal point of view, take for instance the constituency I reside in (27 Town A/C). It is the smallest constituency in the state with educated and enlightened folks but there is little or no progress for more than a decade and I regret that a lot would have been done for the progress and development of our constituency had good individuals with visions taken the mantle of leadership. Q* People tend to stereotype beauty queens as quiet and reserved but in your case it does seem to contradict all the notions behind it. You seem quite outspoken and opinionated. Why? A- Everyone has their own unique personality and character and I have my own. I speak my mind with the fact that I dare to, and, I do not fear to speak the truth in any kind of situation because I am a less diplomatic person. And about being outspoken and opinionated, I chose not to remain grey and blur between black and white because for me,

black is black and white is white- as simple as that. And life should be simple as that. Q* Speaking about good leadership, can you identify some Naga leaders whom you look forward to bring changes in our Naga society? A- I can see many young and capable Naga leaders but I would like to name four promising leaders namely Khriehu Liezietsu, Kekhaho Assumi and upcoming leaders like Temjen Imna Along Longkumer and khekrie Yhome. Q* Apart from all the serious talks, do you feel insecure sometimes that somebody might outshine or overtake your achievements in glamour industry in the near future? A- I would be more than happy to see any woman progressing not just in glamour industry but in other fields too.
And, about the spotlight waning away from me, I would like to state that nothing is permanent so was the spotlight. It was an honour representing the state and I am thankful to God for the opportunity He bestowed upon me. Personally with no offence to anyone, the only person whom I considered worthy to be my competitor and who defeated me gracefully in the international platform was Milett (Miss Peru) and which I have no regret losing to her. So now the rest of competition lies within I, me and myself because I set personal goals in order to challenge myself with new experiences because I believe that we grow better with new experiences as a person. Q* Lastly, any message to the readers? A- I would love to see our Naga youngsters encourage one another to be living testimony of pro active and positive Change because when we look around, people seldom accept nor try to become agent of change. I would also like to request Naga youths not to slumber in the glory of our forefathers and become contributors for a progressive society in their respective fields and make sure that the younger generations will be proud of our contributions and thus leave an exemplary legacy and a better world for all.

NEW DELHI, Jun 23 (PTI): Remunerations dominated former India coach Anil Kumble’s 19page proposal on restructuring of contracts to the BCCI in which he had demanded that the “chief coach should earn 60 percent of the captains’ estimated earnings”. The document also supported national coaches “earning from IPL” to “augment their income” without specifying whether it amounts to ‘Conflict of Interest’. He had also suggested that 20 percent of the players’ Central Contracts should be variable pay based on their “fitness standards”. The PTI has access to Kumble’s presentation, which he submitted on Committee Of Administrators’ (COA) behest during the final of the IPL on May 21. Titled ‘Restructuring of Remuneration And Contracts of Personnel Of The Indian Cricket Team’, Kumble, on Page 12 of the document, proposed a hike for the support staff. Under Point No 10 ‘The Suggested Change: Enablers’, the former skipper had given a four-column tabulation chart. ‘Enablers’ is a terminology Kumble used for the team’s support staff.

Confed Cup: Sanchez makes history
Alexis Sanchez celebrates after scoring to become Chile’s leading goalscorer.
KAZAN, Jun 23 (Agencies): Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez became Chile’s all-time top-scorer with his 38th international goal in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Germany at the Confederations Cup. The Gunners’ star, voted man of the match, wrote himself into the record books by capitalising on an early mistake in the German defence. However, Lars Stindl netted his second goal of the tournament to equalise for the world champions just before the break to
eventually earn a share of the points. The result leaves South American champions Chile top of Group B on goal difference from World Cup winners Germany. With both teams on four points, three ahead of Australia and Cameroon who drew 1-1 earlier, they are in pole position to reach next week’s semi-finals. Germany play Cameroon on Sunday in Sochi while Chile face the Socceroos in Moscow. Despite leaving all his World Cup-winning stars
at home, Germany’s head coach Joachim Loew still managed to name four of his first-choice team. He started with wingbacks Jonas Hector and Joshua Kimmich with Emre Can and Julian Draxler. After their opening 2-0 win over Cameroon, Chile took the lead with just six minutes gone. There was nothing on when goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen harmlessly rolled the ball out towards Joshua Kimmich. However, Kimmich’s Bayern Munich team-mate
Arturo Vidal reacted fastest, deflected the ball into Sanchez’s path and the striker fired home off the inside of the post. Despite the early scare, Germany regained their composure and pushed forward. When Can broke into the Chile half, his pass to the left wing found Hector, whose hard, low cross was stabbed by Stindl past goalkeeper Johnny Herrera on 41 minutes. It was Stindl’s second goal in Russia, after he opened the scoring against Australia, to make it 1-1 at the break. The midfield battle intensified in the second half. Vidal and Bayer Leverkusen’s Charles Aranguiz shaded the battle with Germany’s defensive midfielder Sebastian Rudy, who will also join Bayern next season, and Liverpool’s Can. Draxler was a strong figure for the Germans in the attacking midfield role, helping out in defence and constantly looking to put Stindl or Leon Goretzka in space. Both sides had no more than half-chances to break the deadlock with the group winners to be decided by the weekend’s final round.

Afghanistan, Ireland awarded Test status L o n d o n, J u n 2 3 (IANS): The number of Test-playing nations rose to a round dozen after the International Cricket Council (ICC) here on Thursday inducted Afghanistan and Ireland as Full Members following a unanimous vote. T h e d eve l o p m e n t comes 17 years after Bangladesh were accorded Test status, and following both the Afghanistan and Ireland boards applying to the International Cricket Council to have their status upgraded from Associates. “Afghanistan and Ireland were today confirmed as Full Members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) after a unanimous vote at the ICC Full Council meeting at The Oval,” the global cricket body said in a statement after the ICC Full Council meeting at The Oval. “Both will now be eligible to play Test cricket following a Membership Committee recommendation that the respective Full Member applications from each met the newly approved membership criteria and should be put forward for approval,” the statement added.
Kidambi Srikanth
Sydney, Jun 23 (PTI): Newly-crowned Indonesia Open winner Kidambi Srikanth continued his rampaging run to advance to the men’s singles semifinals but it was curtains for PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal at the Australian Super Series here today. In the all-Indian quarterfinal duel between Srikanth and B Sai Praneeth, it was the former who came out on top with a fighting
25-23 21-17 win over his countryman in a 43-minute clash at the Sydney Olympic park. It was the second time that the two Indians were facing each other. They had squared off at the finals of Singapore Open where Praneeth had the last laugh. Srikanth, who had edged out world no.1 Son Wan Ho in semifinals en route his title triumph at the Indonesia Open last
week, will face fourth seed and All England finalist Yuqi Shi of China in the last four round. World No.11 Srikanth had beaten Shi Yuqi, winner of the 2016 French Super Series, at the Singapore Open this year. However, disappointment was in store for India in the women’s singles as Rio Olympics silvermedallist PV Sindhu and defending champion Saina Nehwal squandered opportunities galore to go down in thrilling threegame matches. Sindhu failed to get the better of world No.1 and top seed Tai Tzu Ying of the Chinese Taipei for the seventh time in her career, while Saina fought for an hour and 19 minutes before losing to last year’s finalist Sun Yu. Sindhu squandered a game’s advantage to go down 21-10 20 -22 16-21 in a contest that lasted exactly an hour, while Saina went down 17-21 21-10 17-21 to Sun.

Mary Kom bows out of Mongolia boxing tourney
M C Mary Kom
NEW DELHI, Jun 23 (PTI): Five-time world champion M C Mary Kom bowed out with a shock quarterfinal loss but India managed a reasonably good day with three men and one woman advancing to the semifinals of the Ulaanbaatar Cup boxing tournament in Mongolia today. Mary Kom (51kg), who was returning to action after a one-year hiatus, went down by a unanimous decision to Korean Chol Mi Bang. The 34-year-old, a five-time world champion and an Olympic bronzemedallist, struggled to connect clean punches against
her taller rival and was even warned once for excessive bending. Mary Kom would be going back to the light flyweight 48kg category after this to focus on the Asian Championships in November and the Commonwealth Games next year. However, Asian youth silver-medallist Ankush Dahiya (60kg), Strandja Memorial gold-medallist Mohammed Hussamuddin (56kg), King’s Cup goldmedallist K Shyam Kumar (49kg) and Priyanka Chaudhary (60kg) won their respective quarterfinal bouts in the men’s and women’s draws to make the medal rounds.
