PM writes personal letter to village heads on saving rainwater NEW DELHI, JUN 15 (IANS): Concerned about the water crisis in rural areas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a personal letter to ‘Gram Pradhans’(village chiefs) requesting them to conserve rainwater during the forthcoming monsoon. The letters, signed by Modi, have been hand-delivered to the pradhans through respective District Magistrates and Collectors in the districts. The PM’s letter has been delivered to 637 village chiefs wherein he has requested the Pradhans (Sarpanch) that they should make personal efforts to encourage villagers to initiate the process of conserving rainwater this season.

Written in Hindi with a personal touch, the PM says in his letter, “...The rainy season is about to begin. We are grateful to God that we have been blessed by enough rainwater. We should make all efforts and arrangement to conserve this blessing (water).”

ASU to carry out verification drive KOHIMA, JUN 15 (NPN): Renewing its stand to tackle the demographic threat in the society, Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has informed that the union would be carrying out its first phase “non-local verification drive 2019” from June 20 till July 20 at ASU office, below AIR station, BOC Kohima.

ASU vice president and convenor ILP monitoring cell, Neitsietuo Norbert Mere in a press note sought the support and active participation of the denizens of Kohima district during the exercise, in order to avoid stray incidents of harassment to ILP holders by unofficial persons.

Modi chairs Niti Aayog meeting HPC committee for Agri reforms setup Targets $5 trillion economy by 2024 NEW DELHI, JUN 15 (AGENCIES): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced setting up a High-Powered Committee (HPC) to work on structural reforms in agriculture, which would include some chief ministers as its members.

The committee will take a holistic approach on the subject, including allied activities, an official statement said.

Reiterating Centre’s commitment to double incomes of farmers by 2022, Modi said this requires focus on fisheries, animal husbandry, horticulture, fruits and vegetables.

Chairing the fifth Niti Aayog meeting here, Modi also called upon States to review the progress of Aspirational Districts from time to time. He said a new model of governance needs to be established in aspirational districts and asked the States to identify 20%

States should aim to increase their economy by 2-2.5 times. This would result in an increase in the common man’s purchasing power, he added.

DIMAPUR, JUN 15 (NPN): State BJP legislators, deputy chief minister and BLP leader Y. Patton and state BJP president and minister Temjen Imna Along has urged the Central leadership to expedited the Naga peace process and resolved the long pending Naga issue.

In a press note, deputy CMO media cell said, Patton an Along conveyed this to BJP national general secre-

tary (I/c NE) Ram Madhav when they called on him at Delhi on Saturday.

During the meeting, the state BJP leaders also highlighted on various developmental aspects needed in the state and also stressed on the need to strengthen the party in the North East and Nagaland in particular.

Ram assured to take all positive steps towards the issues raised by the leaders.

The agency’s investigation revealed that institutions like Lovely Professional University and Karnataka University established centres in different states, including Himachal Pradesh, where documents of SC/ST and BPL students were collected but admissions not granted.

Later, with the connivance of officials of the Education Department and banks, fake bank accounts were opened on the basis of genuine documents(and addresses) secured by the centres.

For instance, almost 250 students of village Dehri in Himachal’s Kangra district had applied at these centres, which took the documents of these students but did not give them admission. Subsequently, a large number of fake accounts were opened in the

State Bank of India and the Allahabad Bank on basis of documents submitted by the students and the bank officials did not verify the account holders, facilitating the scamsters’ siphoning off the scholarship money.

Last month, the CBI conducted raids at multiple locations in northern India in the Rs 250 crore scholarship scam related to pre- and postmatric scholarship scheme.

The CBI sleuths carried out the raids at 22 educational institutes across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Haryana. Besides the CBI, police in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh are also investigating scams related to scholarships where officials of the Education Department and private institutions have been found to be hand in glove.

State IMA branch to join June 17 strike

DIMAPUR, JUN 15 (NPN): Joining the nationwide protest called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), the Nagaland branch Saturday informed that all non-essential medical services will remain suspended from 6 a.m. on June 17 to 6 a.m. on June 18.

As the doctors’ protest entered the fifth day in many parts of the country, IMA on Saturday announced that it will continue the agitation.

As per the directive from IMA HQ, the Nagaland branch president Dr. Kezevituo Keditsu has requested all medical graduates to join in the 24 hours withdrawal of non-essential services across Nagaland on Monday, in solidarity with the medical fraternity all over India.

Meanwhile, Dr. Keditsu said all emergencies and casualties are exempted.

NEW DELHI, JUN 15 (IANS): Initial investigation by the CBI into the multi-crore scholarship scam reveals a deep-rooted nexus between government officials, private institutions and public sector banks to siphon-off funds meant for poorest of the poor students. Students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Minorities were also deprived of scholarships to pursue basic education.

Sources in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) revealed to IANS that the scam in the scholarship fund meant for children from below poverty line (BPL) families was spread across Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. Though the scope of the investigation pursued by CBI’s Shimla branch is limited to this region, sources said that the scam is widespread and similar complaints have been made in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country. “In the interest of the poor and SC/ ST students, the agency can take up more such cases if the matter is recommended to us by other states,” said a highly-placed source in the CBI.

Speaking at the launching programme, Longkumer said the new website has been made more user friendly and dynamic with addi-

DGP Nagaland T. John Longkumer said that the elite state police unit or the Special Task Force (STF) will be commissioned soon.

Talking to Nagaland Post on the sidelines of the new website launching event, Longkumer said that the STF will be equipped with advanced weapons and equipment.

Besides specializing in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations, DGP said the STF will also assist in emergency situations outside the domain of normal policing duties.

He said STF was mainly established in order to keep a force ready to react to any kind of situation at any given point of time.

Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, JUN 15 (NPN): Domestic workers in Nagaland were encouraged to unite and fight for their labour rights, dignity and justice in their place of work.

This ardent call was made to hundreds of domestic workers in Dimapur who joined the rest of the world in celebrating “International Domestic Workers’ Day (IDWD)” on Saturday at Assisi Auditorium, Dimapur.

Domestic workers, a vast but hidden workforce of the society, were also motivated to join the growing movement to as-

sert their rights and fight against exploitation and abuse.

The event was organised by National Domestic Workers’ Movement (NDWM) Nagaland Region in collaboration with Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) and All Nagaland Domestic Workers Union (NDWU) under the theme, “Zero tolerance on gender based violence for domestic workers in the world of work”.

Lamenting that the students are losing interest in the art of handwriting, he said that although scientists have developed alternative way the best and most secure is your own handwriting. He told the students not to feel lazy to write essay, poems and other literature.

He said so far, Rs. 1.43 crore has been spent for the construction of the new school building.

AN-32 crash: Bad weather hampers operation

ITANAGAR/HYDERABAD, JUN 15 (PTI): Inclement weather on Saturday hampered rescue efforts to retrieve the mortal remains of 13 air-warriors who were on board the Indian Air Force aircraft that crashed in the mountains of Arunachal Pradesh, an IAF spokesman said.

Shillong-based IAF spokesman Ratnakar Singh said the rescue operation, which commenced early Saturday morning, could not progress further due to inclement weather at the crash site.

Cheetah and ALH helicopters are on standby and are waiting to commence operations once the weather improves.

At present there are low clouds accompanied with rain in the area, the spokesman said in a statement. The IAF is making all efforts to retrieve the mortal remains of the deceased air-warriors.

IAF personnel are in constant contact with the families of these airwarriors and they are being updated regularly about the ongoing rescue operations.

They are also being explained the challenges being faced by the rescue team, he added.

‘We will ensure crash does not happen again’

The Indian Air Force will ascertain the cause of the recent crash of AN32 aircraft in Arunachal Pradesh and ensure such accidents do not recur, IAF chief B S Dhanoa said Saturday. His comments come days after the wreckage of the IAF aircraft was found in a remote area in Arunachal Pradesh more than a week after it went missing with 13 people on board. “We have recovered the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder…We will go into the detail (to ascertain) as to what happened and how do we make sure that it does not happen again,” he told reporters on the sidelines of Combined Graduation Parade at Air Force Academy in Dundigal near here.

The Russian-origin aircraft went missing in the afternoon of June 3, around 33 minutes after taking off from Jorhat in Assam for Menchuka in Arunachal Pradesh. After eight days of a massive search operation, the wreckage of the plane was spotted by an IAF chopper on Tuesday at a height of 12,000 feet near Gatte village on the border of Siang and ShiYomi districts.

Man attacks Situation tense as BJP MP’s house family members attacked in Tripura’s Durgapur and neighbours Nalbari ( A ssam ) , Jun 15 (PTI): Two persons were killed and three others injured when a man in an alleged inebriated condition attacked his family members and neighbours with an axe in Nalbari district, police said Saturday.

According to a police, the accused identified as Pankaj Dev Nath attacked his elder brother Ajoy Dev Nath and his friend Chandan with an axe at his residence in Hati Namati village around 9 pm on Friday night killing them on the spot.

Pankaj then attacked his 70-year old father Jagabandhu Dev Nath and his sister-in-law Chanjala Dev Nath.

While attempting to flee Pankaj attacked his neighbour Painur Ali, they said.

The injured have been admitted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, the police said.

The villagers caught hold of Pankaj early this morning and handed him over to Nalbari Police station.

As per preliminary investigation the crime was committed due to family related issues, a police officer said.

GANDACHERA, JUN 15 (AGENCIES): Suspected supporters of Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) attacked the house of BJP parliamentarian Rebati Mohan Tripura on Friday night at Durgapur under Gandachera subdivision in Dhalai district of Tripura, reports Northeast Now news.

However, at the time of the attack, the Tripura East Lok Sabha MP was not at his house as he had left for Agartala to catch a flight for Delhi on Saturday, said sources. “The attackers burned down one bike, damaged a car and pelted bricks at the MP’s house, which is located near the border outpost of the 71 Battalion of BSF,” sources said.

The IPFT is the partner in the coalition government of Tripura led by the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). However, both the parties fought the recentlyconcluded Lok Sabha polls

separately. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers also opened three rounds of fire from country-made gun and raised Twipraland slogan allegedly in front of police.

“The attack may be a repercussion following the victory rally that took place yesterday which was participated by the MP along with hundreds of BJP supporters,” sources added.

One of the eyewitness, Jubarai Tripura, who is also the brother of the MP, alleged, “The attackers earlier opened three rounds of fire from a country-made gun and the incident took place in front of police.”

He said, “If the MP is not safe, what would be condition of the common people.” Meanwhile, the situation has become tense as BJP supporters have gathered there with rods, sticks and other things to retaliate the attack by suspected IPFT supporters.

SHILLONG, JUN 15: Medical doctors in Meghalaya on Saturday strongly condemned the “barbaric acts of violence” on Dr P Mukherjee, NRSMCH, Kolkata who was performing his duty as an intern.

Resident Doctors Association of North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences and Medical Staff of Nazareth Hospital urged the government to take stringent steps to ensure the rule of law and safety of its citizens.

IMPHAL, Jun 15: Opposition Congress in Manipur said it smelt something fishy behind the chief minister’s decision to constitute a committee to examine withdrawal of huge amount by public works and power departments during the period between March and May this year when the Model Code Conduct was in force.

They felt the move of the chief minister was to evade responsibility of the grim financial situation of the government.

MPCC president, Gaikhangam asked how huge amounts of government funds can be withdrawn without the knowledge of the chief minister.

There was standing instruction that chief minister’s approval must be obtained if a department has to sanction fund above Rs two crore. Soon after portfolios of power and works were divested from him, minister Th Bishwajit denied the allegations of withdrawals of huge amounts by the two departments when Model Code of Conduct was in force, a charge levelled on him by the chief minister.

Deputy chief minister, Y Joykumar also denied charges levelled against the finance department even as the finance portfolio was taken away from him.

Addressing a news conference at his official quarter in Imphal, MPCC president Gaikhangam said that if the chief minister was sincere enough to a fair enquiry into the matter, he must constitute a high level inquiry committee to be headed by not less than a retired chief justice.

He added that the chief minister had ordered for nothing but to escape from the responsibility of the overdraft the

bank accounts stating that the government account has overdrawn in excess.

The state is currently facing an overdraft of Rs 274.46 crore.

He said the parties in power had utilised funds in the elections and demanded that Election Commission of India declares null and void the parliamentary elections in Manipur. Fresh poll should be ordered in the two parliamentary constituencies in the Manipur as there was concrete evidence that the parties in power had violated the Model Code of Conduct during the recently concluded Lok Sabha election, he said.

He alleged that the ruling party had utilized the huge amounts of government funds allegedly withdrawn during the election.

“It is not me or Congress but the government that said that huge amount of fund has been withdrawn by PWD and power departments when the MCC was in force.

The government has even set up enquiry for that”, Gaikhangam said, adding that it was upto the ECI to conduct fresh poll in the state.

On the political crisis in the BJP-led coalition government, the MPCC president said that it was their family matters and observed that it should be resolved as soon as possible in the interest of the people.

As the crisis broke out at the beginning of the fiscal years and developmental works were to be taken up in full-swing, it will be bring nothing but hamper the developmental pace, he said.

He added that developmental pace can only be accelerated when there was a stable government.

‘Enact law to protect medical professionals from violence’ NEW DELHI, JUN 15 (PTI): Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan Saturday asked states to consider enacting specific legislation for protecting doctors and medical professionals from any form of violence in the wake of the recent assault on doctors in West Bengal.

Along with a letter to all chief ministers, he also attached a copy of the Draft Act provided by IMA --the Protection of Medical Service Persons and Medical Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss of Property) Act, 2017.

He drew the attention of all states and UTs for strict action against any person who assaults doctors.

The move comes after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) launched a four-day nationwide protest from Friday and wrote to Union Home Minister

Amit Shah demanding enactment of a central law to check violence against healthcare workers in hospitals. The apex doctors body has called for a nationwide strike on June 17 with withdrawal of nonessential health services.

Expressing deep concern over the recent act of violence against doctors, Vardhan stated that incidents of assault on doctors are reported from different parts of the country and this leads to sudden strike by doctors, gravely affecting the healthcare services.

“Resident doctors in many parts of the country are agitating and not providing healthcare services.

Agitations by doctors in West Bengal seem to be getting aggravated and taking shape of strike by both government and private sector doctors, all over the country,” he said in his letter.

Representatives from the IMA and Delhi Medical Association (DMA) also called on Vardhan Saturday.

Stressing further on the need for avoiding such incidents in future, Vardhan said that law enforcement should prevail so that doctors and clinical establishments discharge their duties and professional pursuit without fear of any violence.

“Strict action against any person who assaults them, must be ensured by the law enforcement agencies,” he emphasised.

Mamata accepts doctors’ demands; Centre seeks report NEW DELHI, JUN 15 (AGENCEIS): The West Bengal gover nment on Saturday accepted all the demands of the agitating doctors and requested them to rejoin services as the stir entered its fifth day.

Calling the assault on a junior doctor at a Kolkata hospital an “unfortunate incident”, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said that her government is committed towards resuming normal services in the state at the earliest. “We never arrested a single person.

We will not take any police action. Health services cannot continue like this. I am not going to take any stringent action. Let good sense prevail,” she said at a press conference today.

Doctors to continue agitation: The doctors, however, turned down Mamata’s appeal and said they will continue their agitation in the state, adding that the chief minister did not take any honest initiative to address their concerns.

“We are eagerly wait-

ing to rejoin our duty, but from the chief minister’s side there is no honest initiative to find a solution (of the ongoing problem),” a spokesperson of the joint forum of junior doctors told reporters.

Centre seeks report on violence: Union Home ministry has sought a report from the West Bengal government on the strike by the doctors. In an advisory, the MHA said it has received a number of representations from doctors, healthcare professionals and medical associations from different parts of the country for their safety and security in view of the ongoing strike by doctors in West Bengal.

Health minister writes to states over security of doctors: In view of the assault on doctors in West Bengal, Union health minister Harsh Vardhan wrote to the chief ministers of all states and Union Territories (UTs), urging them to take strict action against any person who assaults medical practitioners.

NEW DELHI, JUN 15 (PTI): Four Congress chief ministers and Karnataka’s H D Kumaraswamy met former prime minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday to discuss issues of their respective states, especially those related to farmers and tribals, to be taken up at the Niti Aayog meeting. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Puducherry’ V Narayansamy held a meeting with Singh at the Congress headquarters here.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also joined the meeting later.

Kumaraswamy of the JD(S) is heading a coalition government with the Congress in Karnataka.

They discussed the proposed agenda and issues of their respective states to be taken up with PM Modi at the Niti Ayog meeting, sources said.

Among the issues discussed were injecting life back in water bodies, fresh efforts needed from the Centre in the agricultural sector and amendment in the Forest Act to bring about change and prosperity in the lives of the tribals.

Baghel, Kumaraswamy and Narayansamy also separately called on the prime minister on Saturday. On Friday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Nath had hosted a dinner at his residence where Gehlot, Baghel and Narayansamy were present. The fifth meeting of the Niti Aayog’s Governing Council will focus on issues like the drought situation, farm distress, rain water harvesting and preparedness for kharif crops.

A relative with whom Nawaz had interacted earlier, told the police that he was going to Rameshwaram to be with a close friend for a few days.

Nawaz had recently got his transfer orders and was extremely stressed about it. A day before he went missing, he had also had an argument with a senior officer over the wireless.

After the police located him, Nawaz spoke to his wife and assured her everything was fine and there was nothing to worry.

ather’s Day is all about veneration, commemoration and celebration that takes place on the third Sunday of the month of June each year.

The third Sunday of June was declared as Father’s Day and a national holiday in 1966 by the president of the USA Lyndon Baines Johnson. It followed after Mother’s Day was declared a national holiday in 1920, which was initiated by Sonora Smart Dodd.

Father’s day is a reminder about God’s commandment to His people (Exodus 20:12). The day is also an occasion for fathers to be reminded of their role in the family. The reason God gave the commandment was because He ordained the institution of family of His own creation. Honouring fathers is thus a commandment that comes with either blessing or cursing. According to the Bible, when a child honours the parents, it invokes God’s blessing which bring good health and long life. Honour is obeying the teachings of fathers in doing what is good in God’s sight. The bible therefore promises children that honouring fathers and mothers brings good health and long life. Also in Proverbs 23:24, the father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son or daughter rejoices in him. There is also a great difference between good fathers and godly fathers. A good father is kind and compassionate and helpful. However, a good father who does not teach his children about godly values. A godly father is kind, compassionate and helpful but above all, he shows his children the way to godliness. This is a crucial aspect of ensuring that children are not led astray by vain philosophies that ensnare the souls.

On the other hand, a godly father is not only compassionate but is also concerned with the souls of his children. Modern dads have a closer bond with their children than they had with their own fathers, according to new research. A study discovered more than six out of ten dads believe they enjoy a better, more supportive and hands-on relationship with their children than they experienced. Studies have shown that, when fathers are godly, affectionate and helpful, their children are more likely to get on well with their brothers and sisters. Modern psychologists only confirm what God had in mind for a vibrant and healthy family that contributes to a peaceful environment.

Often the biblical teaching on the father as the head of the wife has been misinterpreted to mean male dominance. This is not the truth; for the Bible clearly says that a husband must love his wife as he loves himself. They are equal partners in the God ordained marriage. A father is like a pilot and the mother, a co-pilot and each needs to complement the other to make their family’s journey safe and secure. Today psychologists have come to agree that fathers play a unique and crucial role in nurturing and guiding children’s development. In essence, it is in keeping the commitment towards responsible parenthood where the man leads and includes his wife in keeping their priorities right in God’s sight, fulfil their duties towards God, themselves, their families and human society.

Today, the term fatherhood is used interchangeably with the term ‘fathering’ which includes, beyond the procreative act itself, all the child rearing roles, activities, duties, and responsibilities that fathers are expected to perform and fulfil.

Nor are we born with habits— we have to form godly habits on the basis of the new life God has placed within us. We are not meant to be seen as God’s perfect, bright-shining examples, but to be seen as the everyday essence of ordinary life exhibiting the miracle of His grace. Drudgery is the test of genuine character. The greatest hindrance in our spiritual life is that we will only look for big things to do. Yet, “Jesus…took a towel and…began to wash the disciples’ feet…” (John 13:3-5).

We all have those times when there are no flashes of light and no apparent thrill to life, where we experience nothing but the daily routine with its common everyday tasks. The routine of life is actually God’s way of saving us between our times of great inspiration which come from Him. Don’t always expect God to give you His thrilling moments, but learn to live in those common times of the drudgery of life by the power of God. It is difficult for us to do the “adding” that Peter mentioned here. We say we do not expect God to take us to heaven on flowery beds of ease, and yet we act as if we do! I must realize that my obedience even in the smallest detail of life has all of the omnipotent power of the grace of God behind it. If I will do my duty, not for duty’s sake but because I believe God is engineering my circumstances, then at the very point of my obedience all of the magnificent grace of God is mine through the glorious atonement by the Cross of Christ.

God at-the-Wheel in the Journey of Common Hope

rologue: Over two decades ago, someone from an international community at Baguio City, Philippines commented: “Nagas have Christ in their heart, politics in their blood.” That was a pleasant voice! I was glad Nagas are known to people across the globe.

While there could be people who are totally ignorant about the Nagas in relation to our identity, culture, and land, the world today, by and large, knows that Nagas belong to a free nation. “The assertion that Nagas are free people and Naga territory remains Independent is an incontrovertible fact of history and an accepted reality” (Naga Chronicles, p. 553).

Even those who deny it with their lips are bound to believe it in their heart.

And we, Nagas, must be thoroughly convinced that we are free in spirit even in the political chain of bondage. Therefore, no true Naga can neither tolerate the betrayal of the Nagas by the British nor accept the forced occupation in Naga-lands and dominion by the Indians.

This historical fact gives the Nagas indisputable right to fight for sovereignty from the hands of their oppressors. However, history tells us that, Nagas have been working hard for a common cause without working together. Insincerity on the part of India is ridiculously obvious.

Nevertheless, we have also become a stumbling block to our own genuine aspirations. Human frailties such as, ideological differences, leadership crisis, love for position, power struggle,

and materialism have overshadowed our common goal as a nation.

It is disheartening to recollect our past memories when there was rampant homicide among the Naga brethren ever since crisis erupted and disintegrated the national workers. The saddest part was that, lives were eliminated in the name of Naga sovereignty under the banner of “Nagaland for Christ!”

If a Kingdom is Divided: On one occasion, Jesus exposed the bad theology and faulty logic of the religious leaders who thought power struggle could bring victory. Jesus emphatically stated: “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand” (Mark 3:24). At one point of time, “Naga society was torn apart with ‘interfactional’ violence, suspicion, distrust, and divisive political rhetoric” (FNR document, “Naga Reconciliation – A Public Statement,” p.1). That was when the Nagas became so divided!

Over-ambitiousness for the ‘kingdom’ that was presumed to be at hand turned many into “fighting for the ‘head’ before the ‘wild boar’ is hunted down.”

Fighting for supremacy seldom yields positive result in the real sense when it come to common cause, but united a nation can stand, indeed! Factional conflict reached its peak in the late nineties, but thanks be to God; He intervened and brought about Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) as His instrument of reconciliation and peace.

FNR was born as a divine gift from the Lord to the Nagas beyond borders.

Unity without God is Vanity: The Babel Tower narrative tells us that, unity without God is vanity. The descendants of Noah living in the area of Mesopotamia called Shinar in Babylon decided to build a tall, proud symbol of how great they had made their nation.

The Babylonians wanted a tower that would “reach to the heavens” so that they could be like God and that they would not need Him. They began to construct a great ziggurat. They were thoroughly united in all aspects, but their endeavor turned out to be a total failure because there was no God in their unity. The tower was named ‘The Tower of Babel’ because the word Babel means confusion. This story is a powerful reminder of how important it is to obey God’s Word and to not think that we can build a successful but godless life on our own! (Genesis 11) Several peace initiatives were conducted by the churches, organizations, and concerned individuals so as to bring the warring brothers and sisters together for reconciliation even prior to the birth of FNR. Perhaps, attempts were sincere, efforts were sacrificial, and the goal was ideal; however, God was misplaced! Going by the cliché, “God helps those who help themselves,” but God also helps those who cannot help themselves, provided his intervention is sought.

At times, human’s best efforts become futile because men and women have limited potential on certain complex issues.

Reconciliation among

various groups of Naga national workers was no exception. Yes, sometimes, God is in the team but he is given a back seat. Only if God is at-the-wheel, the riders experience a smooth ride.

God Took the Wheel: The FNR was formed on 24 February 2008 as one of the outcomes of the Naga Peace Convention organized by Naga Shisha Hoho in Dimapur. The initial revelation of God through his servant Mr. Chosai for the formation of Naga Shisha Hoho came in the year 1991. The work of God through Naga Shisha Hoho gained its ground among the Nagas after its Third Gathering in Kohima in the month of Febraury 1994 (Thoputso, Chairman of Naga Shisha Hoho, 2018). The literal translation of Shisha Hoho is “Doing in Obedience,” which may be more appropriately stated as “Obedience in Action” or “Acts of Obedience.”

This time, God took the wheel, and FNR was christened on 25 March 2008 at Kohima with the support of 39 Naga frontal organizations and churches (FNR Reflection on the Public Interactions, p. 1).

FNR may not be directly reckoned as the offspring of Naga Shisha Hoho; nonetheless, God has used the latter to manifest his will towards the reconciliation endeavor among the Nagas through the former.

Therefore, from the inception of FNR, it is observed that God is being given the rightful place in the undertakings of FNR and God has done marvel-

ous things thus far! God does not do the work of men and women what they’re expected to do, he does what men and women cannot do. What was next to impossible in the past became “impossible possibility” by the power of God. FNR has achieved much because God has acted. Out of significant Reconciliation Agreements among the Naga National Groups, Covenant of Reconciliation signed on 13 June 2009, A Public Affirmation singed on 28 September 2009, Joint Appeal signed on 10 March 2010, Statement signed on 22 August 2011, Meeting of Naga Leaders on 24-25 August 2011, Naga Concordant signed on 26 August 2011, and Lenten Agreement signed on 28 March 2014 are worth mentioning (Naga Reconciliation—A Public Statement, pp.3-4). When God takes the wheel, progress is always evident and significant!

Epilogue: In the words of Gerald Brooks, “Each of us must decide whether we will live down to our problems or up to our Godgiven potential. The reality is, most people’s problems aren’t really big; rather, most people make God out to be too small” (Big Problems, Bigger God).

One of the very natures of God is that, He is a reconciling God. Therefore those who claim to be His people are bound to reconcile with one another, but true reconciliation will come when we first reconcile ourselves with God, for if we are not right with God nothing can be right no matter how seemingly good our relationship with

one another may appear to be. Hence, the NPGs in particular and the Nagas in general must revisit the Word of God in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which says: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” And, yes, obey all that God has commanded.

When a nation reconciles with God, God Himself reconciles His people into one family under His household. The Assyrians of Nineveh were typical example of how reconciling with God restored the people into a forgiven people (Jonah 3:10). God must be honored. Hatred and division must become a thing of the past; reconciliation and unity must become our unflinching slogan both in words and deeds.

Continuing the Journey of Common Hope, not by might or by the wisdom of men and women alone, but led by the Spirit of God will take FNR a long way.

If Nagas must see a breakthrough in Naga Reconciliation to facilitate and usher in Naga Sovereignty, God must be at-the-wheel!

The Cup of Life

he Fatherly figure that Almighty God holds in our Christian faith is best understood with the relationship we can have with our own earthly father. Some would opt for a Spiritual father. He had sacrificed everything for us to make who we are today, and still more.

He provided for our need from clothing to food to love, and everything else. God did give up His only son that we may have everlasting life and what more could someone; a dear Father does than that!

But there were some moments in our life when we, siblings of seven were unable to comprehend such kind of Love from a drunkard father. At those cr ucial hour of such pains and rejections, love grew cold towards one another with everyday tussles, creating a huge hole in every of our hearts.

Our identity crisis began to take its toll as a broken family was on the making. But it was amazing to know the grace of God through the changeover that from holding the cup of a rice-beer, my dad today seeks tea. He encountered Jesus Christ all over again and that is when the head of the family holding the neck and body parts came to a perfect stature. Today as sons and daughter, on Father’s Day if we had a realisation that when a father in the Love of Christ

is within, we have nothing to lack of. The few additions of in-laws, nephew and nieces added up to my Father’s generation and they brought in their own blessings as well but the legacy of God’s encounter into the family will always be retold as it was where our lives really began and nobody ever going to change that! A ray of hope is now in a change of heart of the head that can always bring us to a new being at the same time, ask God for their long live and intercession for the lags to lead them to Christ.

A good friend of mine lost his dad just recently and it was difficult to find words to condole in a way. But to realise that dying in the Lord (Hebrews 4:10) is more a merrier news than the obituary. It was not how we have first started well but to finish it well. And therefore the race of Faith continues to go on with ordeals and with a praying father/parents we can boldly hold our ground. To the Children and Fathers/parents: Obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. Honour your father and mother which is the first commandment with promise….and Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in training and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6: 1-4). WSTH, KAYF condemn murder DIMAPUR: Western Sümi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) and Khaghaboto Area Youth Front (KAYF) Dimapur have strongly condemned the brutal murder of Helen Zhimo, wife of Phuishe Zhimomi of Phuhoto village on June 11 opposite Zoological Park, Dimapur.

WSTH: Western Sümi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) in a condemnation by WSTH president Jolly Zhimomi stated that no matter what the issue or situation may be murder was not the solution of it. WSTH therefore demands the competent authority to initiate a transparent investigation in the murder and provide justice to the deceased and her family.

WSTH also stated that,

when the world was fighting for equal rights and justice for women such incidents does not justify the act. WSTH also conveyed condolence to the bereaved family.

KAYF: Khaghaboto Area Youth Front (KAYF) Dimapur in a condemnation note by president, Kivito Awomi and secretary, Ngukavi Ayemi, said such inhuman act towards women was intolerable and unacceptable in a civilised society. Xukhepu village council adopts UCD organises resolution on wildlife protection road safety DIMAPUR: In order to preserve and protect wildlife within the jurisdiction of Xukhepu village, all activities related to fishing or hunting in any form has been completely banned for three years or till the resolution is amended by the Village Council of Xukhepu village.

According to DIPR report, cutting of trees, picking of any edible leaves/ fruits within the jurisdiction by non-inhabitants of Xukhepu village is strictly prohibited with effect from the date of this resolution (i.e. March 26, 2019). Defaulters shall be penalized with a sum of Rs. 5000/-.

His/her weapon shall be ceased and kept under the custody of the village council or any place considered safe for the weapon. If the owner of the weapon wishes to take it back, he should pay an extra amount of Rs

5000/-to the Xukhepu Village Council. The council also resolved that any individual/group that finds any defaulters and brings him to the custody of the Xukhepu Village Council shall be rewarded handsomely as per the category, and as per the case.

All the citizens of Xukhepu village have been authorized to seize any weapons/ articles found in possession of the defaulters and report it to the Xukhepu Village Council.

Incase if any individual or group retaliates/insults, the authorized order, the Xukhepu Village Council shall take stringent action against the defaulters. Council also strongly resolved to cooperate and support any neighboring villages who have made resolutions for protecting and preserving the wildlife and biodiversity.

DIMAPUR: Road safety awareness programme under the theme, “Safe riding: My responsibility” in collaboration with Nagaland Motorcycle Club (NMC) was organised by Young Indians (YI) of Unity College, Dimapur (UCD) at the college lawn on June 15.

A press release from UCD computer operator-cum-office assistant, Temjen Imsong stated that, Nagaland Motorcycle Club exhorted the students to be responsible riders by using helmets and possessing proper riding gears, using the headlight and signal light for the right purpose at the right time.

While stating that simple etiquettes like waving a hand or nodding of head as an acknowledgement to passerby could make a difference, the Nagaland Motorcycle Club also encouraged students to develop a habit of safe riding, respect the road and to be conscious of other fellow riders.

Nagaland Motorcycle Club added that safe riding was their responsibility because there was always someone who would be waiting for them at home.

DIMAPUR: NPGN/NNC while reacting to impeachment of Hozheto Chophy

by NPGN/NNC (N/A) under the leadership of T Ovung, published on June 15, termed the act as “ridiculous” and “false”.

In a press release, NPGN/NNC MIP clarified that T. Ovung was nominated by the cabinet as acting president owing to vacant post at the demise of president, Lt. Temjenyanger Aier on December 23, 2016.

MIP accused Ovung for creating “countless obstacles” and “blunders” for the government during his tenure as acting president.

It said Ovung also failed

to make positive contribution in NNPGs while ato kilonser, Z. Hozheto Chophi, rendered his service to the government, NNPGs and reached out to various tribal hohos and frontal organisations. In event of his failure, MIP said National Council of Tatar Hoho was convened on May 31, 2019 where the house resolved to relieve T. Ovung from the post of acting president and unanimously elected Shoba Lakhum as the interim president.

NPGN/NNC MIP said T Ovung was then appointed as advisor to collec-

tive leadership, however, regretted that the latter chose to impose President Rule.

MIP said imposing PR beyond Ovung’s capacity as acting president as he was unanimously impeached by council of kilonsers.

NPGN/NNC has also

warned T Ovung not to manipulate the innocent people or misguide the Nagas through his ignorant act. It has also appealed Nagas in general to decide who is working for the betterment of the Naga political issue.

Commenting on the data, Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) President Ganesh Kumar Gupta said exports May recorded moderate growth in view of sluggish global trade.

“Such a growth in exports is a reflection of

a continued focus on encouraging IT adoption and allocation of funds across sectors like an Innovation fund for secondary education, currently there are no specific incentives for R&D for IT companies,” it said.

Nasscom also recommended a Rs 500 crore allocation in the budget for the financial year 2019-2020 to co-fund talent development and re-skilling in IT services.

“With a requirement to reskill 40 per cent of the country’s 4 million (40 lakh) strong IT workforce to cope with emerging technologies, it is recommended to incentivise firms by promoting expenditure on developing skills and training programs undertaken by the industry.”

It also urged the government to encourage innovation among start-ups and enterprises by exempting tax on long term capital gains from the sale of shares in unlisted companies.

New Delhi, Jun 15 (PTI): India’s exports grew by 3.93 per cent in May to USD 30 billion on the back of healthy growth in electronics and chemicals shipments, even as the trade deficit widened to a six-month high, official data showed Friday.

Imports increased by 4.31 per cent to USD 45.35 as crude oil and gold shipments shot up in the month.

The trade deficit, difference between imports and exports, aggregated at USD 15.36 billion, the widest since November 2018, when it stood at USD 16.67 billion. Sectors which recorded healthy export growth included electronics (51 per cent), engineering (4.4 per cent), chemicals (20.64 per cent), pharma (11 per cent) and tea (24.3 per cent).

“Establishing a taxfriendly Special Economic Zone policy for the next 20 years would help retain existing tax benefits as well as continue to generate employment while increasing foreign exchange earnings,” it said in a statement.

The IT body also said that measures should be taken to promote the creation of intellectual property in engineering, research and development (ER&D) by incentivising investments in centres of global multinational companies in India and nurturing 1,000 technology spin-offs from the ER&D centres in India.

Bishkek, Jun 15 (IANS): Pakistan wants talks with India on the “basis of equality” and in a “dignified manner” and has said it’s up to New Delhi to decide whether it wants to engage with Islamabad to reconcile issues.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said this while confirming the exchange of pleasantries between Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi here on Friday on the sidelines of the 19th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

“Yes, the meeting did take place. There was a handshake and exchange of pleasantries,” Qureshi told Geo News in Kyrgyzstan’s capital.

He, however, accused the Indian government of still “being in the election

mindset”. “Pakistan has said what it has to. India has not come out of its election mindset and the extreme position they had taken to influence their constituency and to keep their vote bank intact. It’s still confined in that,” said Qureshi.

“India has to make this decision. We are neither in haste, nor troubled.

When India prepares itself, it would find us prepared.

But we will hold talks on the basis of equality, in a dignified manner,” Qureshi said.

Stating that neither we (Pakistan) need to run after anyone, nor to demonstrate stubbornness, he said, “Pakistan’s approach is realistic and well thoughtout.”

New York, Jun 15 (IANS): In a sign that this year could once again set records for loss in Greenland ice, researchers have found that the island’s ice sheet lost more than two gigatonnes (a gigaton is equal to one billion tonnes) of ice in just a day this week due to a widespread melting event.

“Yesterday (13th June), we calculate #Greenland #icesheet lost more than 2 Gt of ice, melt was widespread but didn’t quite get to #SummitCamp which was just below 0 degree C. The high melt is unusual so early in the season but not unprecedented,” said the Greenland Twitter handle of the Arctic monitoring web-site Polar Portal of the Danish Arctic research institutions.

The researchers found

that the Greenland melt event was due to an atmospheric circulation in the Arctic and North Atlantic.

The sudden spike in melting on June 13 this year is comparable to some spikes seen seven years ago, Thomas Mote, a research scientist at the University of Georgia who studies Greenland’s climate, told CNN. Melt off early in the season makes it easier for further ice loss later in the season, the researcher said.

The Greenland melt season started very early this season - on April 30, which is the second earliest in a record that stretches back to 1980, according to scientists from the Danish Meteorological Institute.

Uni t e d Nat i o ns, Jun 15 (IANS): UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an independent investigation into this week’s attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

“It is very important to know the truth, and it is very important that responsibilities are clarified,” Xinhua quoted the UN chief as saying to reporters at the UN headquarters in New York on Friday.

He noted “that can only be done if there is some independent entity that verifies those facts.”

“Whatever happens in the international community, we will be supportive of any initiative in this regard, provided it is truly independent,” the UN chief said when answering a question regarding the attacks and their investigation.

Guterres further added that “the world cannot afford a major confrontation in the Gulf.”

Earlier Thursday, two oil tankers were hit in the Gulf of Oman. At least one of them was operated by a Japanese company.

The attacks came amid Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s visit to Iran, who was seeking to help ease tensions between Iran and the US. In May, four commercial vessels reportedly suffered similar sabotage off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

Geneva, Jun 15 (IANS): Thousands of women across Switzerland took to streets in protests demanding equal treatment and conditions compared with their male counterparts.

The protests organized by trade unions and civic organizations came almost three decades after a 1991 strike when women demanded that a constitutional article on equality of the sexes be written into legislation.

Swiss female politicians - mostly decked out in purple, the movement’s colour on Friday streamed out of Parliament in the capital of Bern, where several thousand women were demonstrating, public broadcaster RTS reported.

Preserved Bronze Age farm dubbed the ‘Pompeii of the Fens’

n ‘extraordinarily we l l - p r e s e r ve d ’ Bronze Age farm found in Britain only operated for a year before being destroyed by a ‘catastrophic’ fire and buried in silt.

The Must Farm site in Cambridgeshire drew worldwide attention in 2016 when it was hailed as ‘Britain’s Pompeii’ or the ‘Pompeii of the Fens’.

Now archaeologists from Cambridge University’s Archaeological Unit have come up with a definitive timeline for Must Farm’s occupation and destruction.

‘It is likely that the

settlement existed for only one year prior to its destruction in a catastrophic fire,’ said site director Mark Knight.

‘The short history of Must Farm, combined with the excellent preservation of the settlement, means that we have an unparalleled opportunity to explore the daily life of its inhabitants.’

He said Must Farm is located within the silts of a slow-flowing freshwater river, with stilted structures built to elevate the living quarters above the water.

The ancient channel dated from 1,700 BC to 100 BC and was active

for centuries prior to the construction of Must Farm around 1,100–800 BC. ‘Although excavation of the river sediments associated with the causeway was limited, stratigraphically we can demonstrate that the causeway and the settlement are chronologically unconnected,’ Mr Knight said.

‘The people who built the settlement, however, would have been able to see the rotting tops of the causeway piles during the time of the settlement’s construction.’

Heavy red meat eaters at increased risk of death

I

ncreasing red meat consumption, particularly processed red meat, is associated with a higher risk of death, researchers warned.

A study published in the journal BMJ shows that replacing red meat with other protein sources, such as eggs and fish, whole grains and vegetables, over time may help you live longer.

For the study, a team of researchers from Harvard University looked at the link between changes in red meat consumption over an eight-year period with mortality rate during the next eight years, starting from 1986 to the end of follow-up in 2010.

They used data for 53,553 US registered female nurses, aged between 30 and 55, and 27,916 male health professionals

in the US, aged between 40 and 75, who were free of cardiovascular disease and cancer at the start of the study.

Every four years the participants were given a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) where they were asked how often, on an average, they ate each food of standard portion size in the past year. They were then divided into five categories based on their changes in red meat intake.

During the study period, the total number of deaths from any cause reached 14,019 (8,426 women and 5,593 men) and the leading causes were cardiovascular disease, cancer, respiratory disease and neurodegenerative disease.

After adjusting for age and other potentially influential factors, increasing total red meat intake by 3.5 servings a week or more over an eight-year period was associated with 10 per cent higher risk of death in the next eight years.

Overall, reducing red meat intake while eating more whole grains, vegetables or other protein foods such as poultry without skin, eggs and fish, was associated with a lower risk of death among both men and women.

The Must Farm houses are the ‘most completely preserved prehistoric domestic structures found in Britain’, the researchers wrote in their paper.

The remains of the structures are visible as ‘hundreds of uprights or pile stumps, which together define the outline and internal settings of at least five stilted structures’ enclosed by a palisade with an internal walkway.

The research team

said that the architecture reflects the conventions of the prehistoric British roundhouse, albeit located in an unusual wetland setting.

Uniquely, there is no evidence that the structures were ever repaired and analysis of the timbers has suggested that the timbers were still green when destroyed by fire.

The researchers said that Must Farm represents a ‘routine dwelling’ in a rarely excavated fenland setting, which is ‘incredibly valuable’.

The team of archaeologists found more than 180 fibre or textile items, 160 wooden artefacts, 120 pottery vessels, 90 pieces of metal work and at least 80 glass beads.

They said some of the plant and animal remains found at Must Farm are rare for that period in British prehistory and include pike bones, sheep and goat dung as well as entire charred and currently unidentified tubers.

Most of the food sources, which include wild boar and deer, were not from the wetlands.

The full findings of the study were published in the journal Antiquity.

Sao Paulo, Jun 15 (Agencies): With Neymar watching from afar, it was Philippe Coutinho who came through for Brazil in the Copa America opener.

With two quick goals after the team was jeered by the local crowd at halftime, Coutinho helped Brazil overcome the absence of the injured Neymar in Brazil’s 3-0 win over Bolivia on Friday.

Coutinho converted a penalty kick awarded by video review in the 50th minute and headed in a cross by Roberto Firmino in the 53rd, helping the hosts overcome a lackluster first half that prompted the loud jeers at the Morumbi Stadium.

“Sometimes it’s normal for the fans to jeer, they want us to play well and win,” Coutinho said. “It was a difficult match, like it always is in the opener.

Australia inch closer to semi-final

London, Jun 15 (PTI): Skipper Aaron Finch stroked his way to a majestic century as defending champions Australia inched closer to the semifinal berth with a crushing 87-run win over Sri Lanka in their World Cup fixture here Saturday.

Finch forged two crucial partnerships, 80 with his opening partner David Warner (26) and 173 with Steve Smith (73 off 59) for the third wicket, in his 132ball 153 knock. It was his 14th ODI hundred.

Glenn Maxwell then provided the late charge with an unbeaten 25-ball 46 as Australia posted a challenging 334 for 7.

Chasing the total, Sri Lanka were 115 for no loss at one stage but they squandered the superb start to be eventually dismissed for 247 in 45.5 overs.

Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne (97) was the topscorer for Sri Lanka, while his opening partner Kusal Perera (52) also scored a fifty.

Mitchell Starc took four wickets, while Kane Richardson claimed three and Pat Cummins scalped two.

This is Australia’s fourth win in five matches, having beaten Afghanistan, the West Indies and Pakistan while losing to India in the 10-team tournament.

Sri Lanka were off to a flying start to their runchase with Karunaratne and Kusal Perera helping the team post 87 for zero in 10 overs, the highest total in the powerplay in the tournament so far.

Australia to make call on Stoinis next week London, Jun 15 (PTI): Australia will take a final call on injured all-rounder Marcus Stoinis’ fate in the World Cup ahead of their next week’s match against Bangladesh.

Stoinis, who has suffered a side strain that is preventing him from bowling, will be travelling with the Australian squad to Nottingham -- the venue for their next match -- and the final decision on whether he would remain in the World Cup would be taken there.

Skipper Aaron Finch said Mitchell Marsh, who is on standby and has started training, would be ready if he is included into the official squad. “There is confidence that Mitch will come in and do well if selected, if Stoinis doesn’t recover properly,” he added.

Finch admitted that injury to an all-rounder upsets the balance of a side.

“Yeah, it’s tough when guys, especially all-rounders who balance out your side really well and give you that extra fast-bowling option, as well as a top six batter, (are out). So it’s a little bit difficult trying to decide whether you go the extra batter or the extra bowler, depending on conditions,” Finch said.

“So I think it does make it a little bit tougher, a bit more of a challenge, no doubt. But we also did plan for that, if it did happen throughout the tournament. So it wasn’t a total surprise. Obviously, it’s not ideal, but it’s not a surprise to us because we had already thought about things like that. But just game to game, it totally changes,” he added.

Vanguard FC beat Sechü Zubza 3-2

Kohima, Jun 15 (NPN): Vanguard FC Tseminyu made a comeback in the second half to beat defending champions Sechü Zubza 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at the ongoing Seyie Auto Kohima Football League-3 here at IG Stadium, Kohima on Saturday.

Sechü Zubza FC took an early lead as Rhitsho Mero slotted home the first goal in the 24th minute through a counter attack.

Vanguard FC failed to make much impression in the first half. But in the second half, Sinenlo Kath, Mathew Kezhose and Yhunshalo Kemp scored a goal each in a span of 18 minutes.

Kezhose found the equalizer in the 49th minute, Kemp doubled the score in the 59th minute and Kath scored in the 67th minute to make it 3-1.

Sechü Zubza FC team also had their share to score but Vanguard goalie Tesinsen Kath was at his best and made three crucial saves.

Zubza team was awarded a spot kick in the 91th minute and Mero made no mistake in converting the penalty. However it was not enough as Vanguard held on to the win the match.

At the end of the third round, the win propelled Vanguard FC to second spot in league table standing with nine points (+3) in three matches while

Forerunners FC remained on top of the table on better goal difference of 10.

Sechü Zubza FC have now suffered back to back defeat leaving them three points behind the league leaders Forerunners FC and second place Vanguard FC. Meanwhile, debutant team A Yhome FC overcame Kohima Eagles FC 4-3 to register their first win of the season. Vilhoubeituo Yhome opened the scoring for Yhome FC in the 9th minute. But 10 minutes later, Muleyi Medeo scored a stunning free kick to equalise the score.

However in the second half, Salu Kulim scored from a rebound to hand Yhome FC the lead in the 53rd minute. Three minutes later, Yhome FC skipper Punuru Neinu doubled the lead seizing the poor goalkeeper clearance and Vilhoubeituo Yhome scored his second goal in the 64th minute making it 4-1.

Kohima Eagles winger Kevisanyu Peseyie made a major impact for Kohima Eagles FC creating the second goal for Nuolevituo Pienyü to score in the 84th minute. Peseyie then scored his first goal through a penalty in the 89th minute but it was not enough for the team as Yhome FC held on for the win to collect three points.

With the win, Yhome FC are in the 5th place ahead of Khriekesa FC on better goal difference.

Kohima Eagles are in the fourth position with three points.

Unified FC win open penalty shootout

Ko h i m a , J u n 1 5 (NPN): Team Unified FC emerged as the champions of the first open penalty shootout organised

by MACK United at Seikhazou D.Khel, Kohima village on Saturday.

Unified FC defeated Darlins Club 3-1 in the final shootout. The champions received a cash prize of Rs.60,000 while the runners up, Darlins Club received Rs.40,000. The award to the champion team was handed over by Ketholetuo Khezhie, president, Kohima District Football Referee Association.

‘Spotty showers’ may affect India-Pak clash

New Delhi, Jun 15 (IANS): With just a day to go for the much-anticipated, high octane World Cup clash between India and Pakistan, cricket fans across the globe are praying that the rain gods stay away from Old Trafford on Sunday.

So far, four matches have been abandoned in the ongoing World Cup, including India’s last fixture against New Zealand.

The game in Trent Bridge was called off without a ball being bowled.

Two days before the India-Pakistan clash, Manchester received heavy rainfall. The pitch was under the hover cover and the square was covered by sheets. However, few hours later, the rain went away and there was bright sunshine. This has raised hopes of the cricket fans who have come in from all parts of the world to witness one of the greatest cricket rivalry.

But, it has been forecasted that light showers are on the cards on Sunday afternoon, thus affecting the marquee clash

between the arch-rivals.

Considering the unpredictability of the English weather, anything is possible.

As per the weather forecasting website, Accuweather, spotty showers are to take place between 12 pm and 1 pm (local time). The website further predicted that the conditions will remain overcast throughout the day with the temperature hovering around 17 degree Celsius.

The Inter national Cricket Council (ICC) has already been drawing flak for the poor scheduling and lack of reserve days for the league stage matches and in case the India-Pakistan clash is washed out, one can be pretty sure that a lot of eyebrows will be raised towards the international governing body.

On the field, India enjoy the perfect record when it comes to World Cup clashes against Pakistan. Both the teams have met six times and the Men in Blue have emerged victorious on all six occasions.
