KOHIMA, JUL 7 (NPN): Union minister of state for steel Faggan Singh Kulaste claimed that the North East, along with rest of the country, was moving towards development and progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s able leadership. “No PM in the past had thought so much about the welfare of the people of the North Eastern region. But now, under the leadership of Modi, the region is moving forward towards development and progress along with rest of the country,” Kulaste remarked while launching a membership drive for BJP in Nagaland at Hotel Japfu here on Saturday. The membership drive is part of

State given a miss under NEC, DoNER Staff Reporter

Dimapur, Jul 7 (NPN): Former Addl. Chief Secretary, H.K. Khulu in a write up said DoNER has not achieved the desired results. He pointed out that the 10% allocation of funds under Non Lapsable Pool of Central Resources (NLPCR) lacked a mechanism for implementation. He mentioned that while all other states have either regional or national institutes, Nagaland has missed out. Nagaland missed out in having the Regional Medical College in Dimapur since the state could not give land in the early 70s. He also noted that no officer from the state has been posted at NEC or DoNER as member, secretary or adviser etc. Even if efforts were made to post officers, for some reason, it has not been considered. He said Nagaland missed out on road connectivity like the Tri-Lateral Expressway to connect India with ASEAN countries from Porbander (Gujarat)Assam-Manipur-Myanmar -Thailand. He said work has not started for the DimapurPangsha via Zunheboto road that could link up with the Tri-Lateral Expressway. Also no work has started on the Avangkhu-Pangsha-Lungwa road connecting Intl trade centres . (Full text on p-6)

the two-month-long Sangathan Parv (nationwide enrolment drive). The event was also held to coincide with the 118th birth anniversary of BJP stalwart Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Kulaste claimed that the trust of the people of the nation on the BJP-led NDA government was increasing due to which the party’s membership in the country had reached 11 crore. Mentioning that Nagaland now had 1.18 lakh BJP members after the first membership drive was launched in 2014, he asserted that the State unit was targeting to enrol another 2.5 lakh members during the current membership drive to have at least 3.5 lakh BJP members in the State.

He urged the BJP State leaders, legislators and mandal functionaries to work hard to bring in more members into the world’s largest political party and work together for development and progress. Nagaland deputy chief minister Y Patton, who was also present, called upon all citizens of the State to come forth and enrol themselves and be a part of the world’s largest political party. Mentioning that BJP was given an “unprecedented majority” in the recent Lok Sabha elections by the people of India, he said the resounding mandate for the second term came with huge responsibilities, expectations and trust. “Modi’s mantra of ‘Saab Ka Sath, Saab Ka Vikas, Saab ka Viswas’ needs

cool down soon. Karnataka had plunged into a major political crisis on Saturday as 13 MLAs from the ruling Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) combine quit, reducing the 13-month-old government to a minority in the 225-member state Assembly. The Congress hit out at the BJP for “orchestrating the defections” in a bid to pull down the government, but asserted that it would survive. The BJP, however, blamed the resignations on the “disgruntlement” among the ruling alliance lawmakers. Of the 13 legislators who submitted their resignations in the Assembly Speaker’s office, 10 are from the Congress and 3 from the JD(S). Meanwhile, former Karnataka chief minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah Sunday evening warned party workers to

not speak against JD (S) leader Deve Gowda and CM Kumaraswamy. He asked them to beware of any attempts by the opposition BJP to try and create rift in the coalition. Gowda ar rived at JDS office for party legislature meeting. On the other hand, JDS workers assembled outside party headquarters in Bengaluru and demanded that Kumaraswamy shouldn’t resign amid crisis.

Rebel MLAs refuse to withdraw resignations

The political drama unfolding in Karnataka deepened after a rebel Congress MLA said that all the dissenting lawmakers are firm on their resignations. Cooped up in a Mumbai hotel, Karnataka Congress MLA ST Somashekar said that there was no question of 13 MLAs going back to Bengaluru and withdrawing the resignations.

According to Wokha SDO (Civil) Chonpenthung Ezung, the district administration had received reports

around 3 p.m. on Friday that two boys had drowned. On receiving information from Wokha deputy commissioner (DC), he claimed Sanis administration officials immediately rushed to the spot and confirmed that four individuals had gone down to the river bank and two of them unfortunately had drowned between 2:45 and 3 p.m. It was further ascer-

Though the SDRF team reached the spot at 6:10 p.m. and immediately initiated a search operation with their divers, the operation had to be called off at 9:25 p.m. as it was very late and the water was extremely murky. SDRF commenced their search operation the following day at 6 a.m. with motor boats and divers, even as another team led by EAC Aitepyong, Wokha SDPO and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) assistant commandant numbering around 50 searched downstream beyond the Doyang bridge.
