‘Arrogance’ won’t be tolerated: Modi Comes Down hard against misbehaviour by party members he said. The MLA had defended his action and refused to apologise. He was arrested and later released on bail by a court in Madhya Pradesh. Party sources said Modi also disapproved of the fanfare with which BJP leaders received him after he was released from jail and suggested that the party will

take action. The prime minister said BJP leaders have toiled hard for generations to bring the party success and such arrogance brings it a bad name. The MLA’s father Kailash Vijayvargiya, a BJP national general secretary, was in the meeting when Modi deplored the incident.

Citing Modi’s message, Congress demands expulsion of BJP MLA

NEW DELHI/INDORE, JUL 2 (PTI): Arrogance and misbehaviour cannot be tolerated, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Tuesday in a stern message after senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya’s MLA son assaulted a government official. According to sources, he told the BJP parliamentary party meeting that “whoever it may be, whoever’s son he may be... such arrogance, misbehaviour cannot be tolerated” and action should be

taken against them. “Manmaani nahi chalegi,” he said in Hindi, meaning one cannot get away with doing whatever he or she wishes. Speaking to reporters, BJP MP and spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy quoted Modi as saying that such conduct was “totally unacceptable”. Asked if the prime minister also suggested disciplinary action, he answered in affirmative. “He said if somebody behaves in such

Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks that arrogance and misbehaviour cannot be tolerated in the BJP, the ruling Congress in Madhya Pradesh Tuesday demanded expulsion of BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya for assaulting a civic official with a cricket bat recently. Reacting to the Congress’ demand, the state BJP said they follow directives of the Central leadership. “After this clear message by the prime minister, the BJP should not waste time in expelling Akash from the party. Hopefully, after the PM’s message, the

leaders of the state BJP will stop glorifying Akash,” said state Congress spokesman Neelabh Shukla. Kailash Vijayvargiya had said on Monday that his son was a novice. When asked about the possibility of a disciplinary action against Akash, BJP’s Madhya Pradesh unit vice president Rameshwar Sharma appeared to evade a straight reply. “We follow whatever the Central leadership of the party decides,” he said. Sharma alleged the state government has been working against Opposition leaders out of a political vendetta.

SC throws out PIL filed against ILP Spl. Correspondent/IANS

NEW DELHI, JUL 2 (NPN): In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Tuesday out rightly rejected entertaining a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a BJP member and Supreme Court advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, challenging a law that empowers states like Nagaland to make it mandatory to have an Inner Line Permit for the entry of people from outside the state. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose said: “We are not inclined to entertain this matter.” Senior Supreme Court advocate and advocate general of Nagaland, K.N. Balgopal was also present at the hearing. “The ILP matter during our presence the Bench presided by Chief Justice of India dismissed the petition. Now the controversy has been laid to rest and no outsider can tinker with the Rights of Naga People,” Balgopal tweeted on Tuesday. Nagaland chief secretary, Temjen Toy also tweeted that the PIL filed on the ILP issue had been dismissed by the Supreme

Court. The PIL over ILP had drawn strong criticism from various quarters of the society in Nagaland including political parties, NNPGs, civil society organizations etc. Ashwini in his PIL, contended that states were using ILP law to discriminate against movement of people within their boundaries, that was tantamount to infringing the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution. He also contended that Nagaland has only eight per cent Hindu population and that the ILP allegedly discriminates against the minority. As Upadhyay persisted on a detailed hearing on the matter, the bench, which was rising after concluding the day’s proceedings, apparently got irked and refused to allow him to withdraw the petition, as he intended to present it before the ministry

NSF welcomes dismissal of PIL

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) said it was pleased to learn that the PIL against the extension of ILP to Dimapur filed by one Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay before the Supreme Court was dismissed on Tuesday by a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and comprising Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose. concerned. The court took a sharp jibe at Upadhyay as he said that journalists are also supposed to acquire the permit to enter the state. “You are trying to seek the support of the journalists in the courtroom,” Chief Justice Gogoi said. Upadhyay, in his plea, equated the ILP to a quasivisa system imposed on Indian citizens, and sought it be gradually removed and eventually replaced by technology oriented measures like border patrolling, use of technology, strong land rights, financial devolution and increasing accountability in order to achieve cultural integration of these states with others in the country. A report in The Indian Express on November 11, 2018, stated that Delhi BJP spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay goes by the sobriquet ‘PIL man’ in the corridors of the Supreme Court. A practising advocate, he holds the unique distinction of filing 50 PILs in five years. In another report by ANI on November 12, 2018, the apex court pulled up Upadhyay for filing a series of ‘meaningless’ PILs and warned that he might be banned from filing PILs in the future.

State BJP unit expresses joy

In a statement issued by media officer (MO) to the state president, Temjen Imna Along stated that the State BJP (Cont’d on p-7) also expressed
