Chandrayaan-2 successfully launched

SRIHARIKOTA (AP), JUL 22 (PTI): India on Monday successfully launched its second moon mission Chandrayaan-2 from its most powerful rocket with a plan to land the rover on September 7 in the unexplored lunar south pole, exactly a week after the liftoff was aborted due to a technical snag. Carrying a “billion dreams” in a giant leap for the country’s ambitious low-cost space programme, the most complex and prestigious mission ever undertaken by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), if successful, will also make India the fourth country after Russia, the US and China to pull off a soft landing on the moon. “We bounced back with flying colours after the earlier technical snag. The extension of Parliament session was also discussed in the Business Advisory Committee where opposition made it clear to the government that they are not in favour of any such move, sources, who were present in the meeting, said on Monday. During the Business Advisory Committee meeting chaired by Birla, the government conveyed to the opposition parties that it wanted to extend the ongoing Parliament session, the sources said. Task force for JE surveillance Correspondent

KOHIMA, JUL 22 (NPN): Taking serious note of the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis (JE), the department of health and family welfare has constituted a task force for JE surveillance in the state. The task force was constituted Monday at a meeting held in the office chamber of the principal director, under the chairmanship of the principal secretary, H&FW. According to SNO (IDSP), Dr. Nyan Kikon, the meeting decided to set up task force under the chairmanship of H&FW director Dr.Vizolie Suokhrie for daily update. Ravi’s appointment as the Governor of Nagaland has taken many Nagas particularly the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) by surprise. Ravi, who was the Centre’s Representative and Interlocutor to Naga Peace Process for over four years, was credited for signing the Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015 with NSCN (I-M) and then another agreement with WC of NNPGs on November 17, 2017. With his appointment as the next governor, there has been speculations that the ongoing peace process will soon be resolved as promised by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. It may be noted that current incumbent Governor P.B.Acharya had told Nagaland Post at a recent interview, that the Naga solution will be achieved within 2019.

170 dead, 1.07 cr affected in Assam, Bihar floods Patna/Guwahati, Jul 22 (PTI): Floods in Bihar and Assam have claimed 170 lives till Monday with 1.07 crore people still reeling under the effect of the deluge in the two states. With two more deaths in Muzaffarpur, the toll in Bihar flood climbed to 104. In Assam, the number of deaths touched 66 with two deaths being reported form Dhubri and Dhemaji districts. In Bihar, 76.85 lakh people in 12 districts of the state have been hit by the calamity while in Assam 30.55 lakh people are grappling with the deluge. In the Northeastern state, the flood has also claimed the lives of 187 animals, including 16 rhinos in the Kaziranga National Park of Assam. However, in another rhino habitat -- the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary -- not a single animal has died in the flood. Altogether 96,890 displaced persons are sheltered in 757 relief camps and relief distribution centres set up by district administrations, it said. A total of 2,283 villages and 1.14 lakh hectare agricultural field are still inundated in the flood-hit districts. K Y M C
