KOHIMA, JUL 22 (NPN): Amid high political drama, Nagaland chief minister, T.R. Zeliang on Saturday installed his council of minister by appointing 10 cabinet ministers including two BJP MLAs. Nagaland Governor, P.B. Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 10 ministers at Raj Bhavan Saturday evening. (See Table) Earlier, there was confusion regarding the cabinet list put up by the Governor’s office where EE Pangteang’s name was mentioned in serial no. 7 out of 11. However, the Chief Minister’s Office later issued the final list of 10 members leaving aside Pangteang. This was

later clarified that the 11th person was supposed to be Noke Wangnao. Unlike other days, the swearing-in ceremony was a low key affair with very thin attendance as some legislators, in support of T.R. Zeliang, and even senior bureaucrats gave a miss to the function held at the Durbar Hall. Among those present were Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio, NLA Speaker Imtiwapang Aier and BJP state president Visasolie Lhoungu. Earlier, TR Zeliang took oath as the 19th chief minister of Nagaland on July 19 at Raj Bhavan Kohima. He later proved his majority by winning the

DIMAPUR, JUL 22 (NPN): PWD (R&B) has condemned the action meted out to two officers of Peren PWD (R&B) division allegedly by the mob of Gaili village, Peren district on July 19 last. In a press release, PWD (R&B) chief engineer, Er. K Rhetso, requested the authority to take appropriate action on the culprits. According to chief engineer, two officers – Er. Akheto Sema, EE, PWD (R&B) Peren division and Er. Vimeto Pusa, SDO, PWD (R&B) Jalukie division were allegedly manhandled at Npangreu river when they were on duty to inspect the damage of sub-ways of bridges under construction in between Punglwa and Jalukie. PWD (R&B) chief engineer said it was “very unfortunate” that the public resort to such violent actions while performing official duties. The department said unprecedented rains during the year have damaged many roads and bridges in the state causing much inconvenience to the public. However, it said that such damages caused during natural calamities cannot be controlled and restored or set right within a few days. Asserting that the departmental site officers were working under constrained circumstance and were trying their level best so the road users were not inconvenienced, the department has therefore appealed to the public to show restraint and understand the situation before resorting to such inhuman actions.

Says, polluted leaders removed from NPF for good

DIMAPUR, JUL 22 (NPN): NPF president and former chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu described the present political crisis in the party as “a blessing in disguise” and also “a God-given opportunity to screen out the grain from the chaff.” He said this while addressing party functionaries at his private residence Saturday disclosed NPF Media & Press Bureau. Dr. Liezietsu said party leaders were able to clearly identify “the polluted leaders and had filtered them from the party for good.” He said only the faithful leaders remained in the party and that NPF will be able to work peacefully and conveniently for the welfare of Naga people and the party. Dr. Liezietsü said the 11 MLAs who stood firm with the party were the “seeds of NPF party”. Urging party leaders and workers to stand firm on their conviction and principles, Dr. Liezietsu said NPF would grow taller and stronger with the faithful and dedicated leaders to lead the party.

Coming down heavily on the BJP-RSS ideology and principles, Dr. Liezietsu reminded that NPF had severed all ties with the BJP to protect the identity and the rights of the Nagas. He said due to alliance compulsions, on many occasions the NPF could not speak out the truth. However, after cutting off ties with BJP, he said NPF will have no hesitation to speak the truth for the Naga people. Making it clear that NPF was not against Hinduism, Dr. Liezietsu said NPF was against BJP’s strategy to create disturbance in Naga politics. He continued his attack on Governor PB Acharya, whom he described as a hardcore RSS pracharak, who violated all the constitutional provisions and established laws to bring down his government. However, he said Acharya will never achieve his dream to install a BJP government in Nagaland. Dr. Liezietsu acknowledged Prime Minster Narendra Modi for courageously supporting and strengthening the ongoing Naga Peace process and on curbing cor-

ruption. He further cautioned party leaders that TR Zeliang and group were now preparing to destabilise the NPF after having destroyed the party government. He said if party leaders stood committed and firm, no force of money or power can destroy the party. Dr. Liezietsu said he was optimistic the NPF party will rule beyond 2018 after the “rotten potatoes were removed from the sack”. On MKR Pillai case, Dr. Liezietsu wondered as to why so many legislators had expressed strong reservations about handing over the case to CBI for inquiry. NPF legislator C.L. John in his short speech, termed the present crisis as “vitamin” for the party and a filtration of the corrupted MLAs from the party which will make it stronger. He also said that the crisis was revival period for the party to go stronger. Yitachu MLA in his speech said NPF party was growing from strength to strength and even expanding its wings to other Nagainhabited areas. (Cont’d on p-7)

Rumblings over ministry formation ZBK reacts to ASTD Correspondent

KOHIMA, JUL 22 (NPN): All’s not well within the group of legislators led by chief minister T.R. Zeliang as there are rumblings of discontentment from those who did not find a berth among the 10 cabinet sworn-in on Saturday at Raj Bhavan. T.R. Zeliang was sworn-in as chief minister on July 19 and won the floor test by 47-11, when the fact remains that there is no opposition in house and the government is supposed to be an “all-party”. Several aspirants, most of them senior legislators who did not find their names in the cabinet list, have openly expressed their unhappiness. This was evident when senior leader from Longleng district Pangnyu Phom walked straight up to chief minister T.R. Zeliang and Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio, soon after the swearing-in ceremony ended. Pangnyu did not mince words when he told both in Nagamese-- “Ami Kushi Pa Nai” (I am not happy). He told media persons that he was “very disappointed and angry” for being overlooked

despite having played a major role in the recent rebellion. Another senior legislator inducted into the cabinet, Y. Patton expressed unhappiness for being downgraded in the cabinet list, which was No.3 now to No.4. Interacting with media persons, chief minister T.R. Zeliang said all the problems would be ironed out soon and that appointments of parliamentary secretaries and Advisors would follow suit. When asked the reason for Pangnyu’s resentment, Zeliang opined it was probably because he was not inducted into the cabinet. He justified the exclusion on the ground that there was need for maintaining tribe equation within the NPF-BJP government. Zeliang expressed confidence that it will be smooth sailing for his government and assured that all disgruntlement would be resolved soon. Asked about Patton being unhappy for being listed as No.4 in the cabinet list, Zeliang said Patton had misunderstood it adding, “this was not an Assembly sitting arrangement but only for swearing in.” Patton could not be contacted

ACAUT responds to GPRN/NSCN DIMAPUR, JUL 22 (NPN): Affirming that no tax demand would be entertained, ACAUT Nagaland through its media cell on Saturday said that 1951 plebiscite did not authorise nine factions to collect tax from the Naga people. ACAUT was reacting to the contention of the GPRN/NSCN that the Naga people during 1951 Plebiscite pledged “to support the Naga movement by way of providing ration...” ACAUT said that the factions, if anything, were living “on borrowed times” gasping for much needed oxygen. However, it added that “negative tendency” of the factions to harass grassroots leaders and the general public could “hasten the drying up of this oxygen supply.” Further, ACAUT also urged the GPRN/NSCN not to peddle lies or accuse

Crisis a blessing in disguise: Dr. Shürho

with “unfounded allegations.” Admitting that the Assam Rifles surrounded the area where DUCCF members and “SS Col. Tokugha were holed up”, ACAUT said it was also a fact that DUCCF appealed to AR not to arrest Tokugha. “So this is the real story of how Tokugha escaped,” it said. ACAUT said if GPRN/NSCN has any iota of honour then it should be publicly thank DUCCF for saving Tokugha rather than again threatening DUCCF. “This attitude speaks volumes about GPRN/NSCN and therefore its contention that Tokugha has been dealing with DUCCF in a most friendly atmosphere is laughable,” ACAUT said. Meanwhile, ACAUT reminded the factions that Military Intelligence and NIA have tons of dossiers with regard to their activi-

ties. It said that those information would be “definitely used to implicate them” if the Government of India so desired as in the case of 24% salary deduction case leading to the arrest of officers from the social welfare and land records departments. ACAUT also said there had been instances where members of the factions and their family members were waylaid, killed or arrested after their phones tapped. ACAUT said it was therefore “absurd” to accuse DUCCF members of informing Assam Rifles about the presence of Tokugha when phone numbers of all UG rank and file were probably tapped. ACAUT advised GPRN/NSCN to work towards holding talks with the government of India for a Naga settlement rather than squabbling with ACAUT or DUCCF.

Landslide cuts off KiphireTuensang road Correspondent

KIPHIRE, JUL 22 (NPN): A major landslide that occurred near High Bridge under Kiphire district has completely cut off the road between Kiphire and Tuensang. It may be mentioned that the landslide occurred following heavy downpour on the night of July 21. According to official report from the office of the Executive Engineer, PWD (National Highways) Kiphire Division, the restoration work of the said road could take more than four days. In this regard, commuters have been requested to bear with the inconvenience as the department has put in all efforts to restore the road at the earliest.

as he had left soon after swearing-in and also did not join his colleagues for dinner provided at Raj Bhavan. There was also confusion over the swearing-in of EE Pangteang whose name was on the list. At the last moment, Noke’s name was called much to the annoyance of Pangteang. Asked about it, Zeliang said Noke could not be informed as he was out of station but that he would be sworn-in on Monday at 9 a.m. When asked why P. Paiwang Konyak former minister and BJP MLA was dropped, Zeliang said it was directive from the Central BJP. However, when contacted state BJP president Visasolie Lhongu said he was not aware of the arrangement and that he was not informed. Zeliang also informed that he will not suspend those members who had voted against him during floor test held on July 21. Meanwhile, some aspiring MLAs, who were in support of Zeliang, said they did not attend the swearing-in ceremony since they were ignored and left out despite sacrificing themselves during the entire political crisis.

DIMAPUR, JUL 22 (NPN): Zeliangrong Baudi Kohima (ZBK) has expressed strong resentment at the statement of Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD), which rejected TR Zeliang as chief minister. In a press release, ZBK president, Kairinpibou Chawang, and general secretary, Kenlum Hemang, said ASTD statement was a direct discrimination and challenge to Zeliangrong community as TR Zeliang was also a member of the community. The Baudi stated that Zeliang was democratically elected by majority including Ao MLAs, adding that he was also an elected member from Peren AC. “TR Zeliang an elected member from selected from the Zeliangrong elector of Peren and not by ASTD is a well known fact which ASTD should understand while rejecting him,” ZBK said. Stating that a chief minister was for the whole state and not only for ASTD, the Baudi asked how could “a very civilised Ao organisation of Dimapur stoop so low and selfish.” The Baudi said that there should be no discrimination against each other out of selfish interest and motive. It said that whether a major tribe or a minor tribe justice should prevail, adding that all were equal in the eyes of God. Further, the Baudi said the ASTD statement, which was “highly influential for tribalism in a near future”, should be avoided and condemned by all Nagas. Meanwhile, ZBK has appealed for unity among Nagas, saying it strived for prosperity of the Nagas.

Therie reacts to Dr. Shürho’s allegation DIMAPUR, JUL 22 (NPN): NPCC president, K. Therie has reacted to reports on the allegations levelled against him by former chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu that he had joined hands with Neiphiu Rio and T.R. Zeliang to remove him. In a rejoinder, Therie said since the Congress did not want to fight two elections in six months’ time, the party had raised the issue of the provision of RP Act 1951 section 151A, about holding of the byeelection. Based on the laid down provision, Therie said, if read correctly, it appears that the bye-election cannot be held if the remaining tenure is less than one year. Citing this, Therie said it had nothing to do with the individual. He rather accused all NPF leaders of following RSS-BJP political wing as

their godfather. Therefore, Therie said he had no business in interfering in the internal squabble of NPF, nor could he have done anything. On a personal level, Therie said he had no grudge with either Neiphiu Rio or T.R. Zeliang since they were friends and colleagues and travel in the political axis. “Maybe we are travelling in opposite directions today but tomorrow, we will surely meet again when the circle completes,” he said. Despite having the support of all the MLAs in the 60-member house, Therie said NPF has utterly failed to manage and was therefore accountable for four chief ministers in the 12th NLA. “An eye for an eye and greed, have blinded NPF and its trailers as they have abandoned the people and the state,” he added.

Even after calling BJPRSS as natural ally and extending unflinching support to BJP Presidential nominee, Therie said BJP has abandoned NPF and that the fracture of NPF was beyond redemption. Therie said Dr. Shürhozelie was right on saying that his (Therie) friends had kicked him out. “I don’t know who is kicking out whom in NPF now as everyone appears to be dressed in Boots. So it is, as you sow, so you reap,” Therie stated. Therie said he was rather happy when Dr. Shürhozelie took over as CM, saying he expected him to be reasonable and systematic. However, Therie said he was terribly wrong again when he saw Dr. Shürho’s son appointed as advisor to CM. He also could not stop his habit of suspension, he said. (Cont’d on p-7) K Y M C

The Army has also set ammunition level required for what is called the Minimum Acceptable Risk Level (MARL) - that is the amount of ammunition required for 20 days of war. But the CAG found that even this level was not maintained in most of the types of ammunition. The CAG criticised the Ordnance Factory Board OFB for the highlighted inadequate quantity of ammunition supplied to the

Pranab Mukherjee

New Delhi, Jul 22 (IANS): Outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee will be given a farewell by Members of Parliament on Sunday in the Central Hall of Parliament. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also hosting a farewell dinner for the President on Saturday. Mukherjee’s successor Ramnath Kovind is also likely to be present there. Mukherjee, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, was given a farewell by the Chiefs of Staff Committee on Friday. In a simple function held at the Manekshaw Centre, the President interacted with senior military officers. In his farewell address, Mukherjee extended his best wishes to all members of the armed forces and their families.

Darjeeling, JUL 22 (AGENCIES): A police outpost was set on fire by pro-gorkhaland agitators in Darjeeling hills and posters were distributed saying local MP SS Ahluwalia “has not been seen in the hills in the last few months” on the 38th day of the indefinite shutdown on Saturday. The agitators threw petrol bombs at a vacant police outpost in Jaldhaka in the afternoon and also tried to set ablaze a forest bungalow in the hills but

Millennium Development Goals-2015 not achieved: CAG New Delhi, Jul 22 (IANS): With a countrywide average of Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) of 39 deaths per 1,000 live births and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) of 167 per 1,00,000 live births, the country only “partially achieved” the Millennium Development Goals-2015 under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), the CAG has said. The “partial” achievement was far from the targets set under the Framework of Implementation (2012-2017), the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, laid in Parliament on July 21, said. While MDG for 2015 sets the target of IMR of 27 per 1,000 live births, as per the Sample Registration System, the IMR in 2014 was 39 per 1,000 live births. Similarly, as against the MMR target of 109 per 1,00,000 live births, the countrywide average was at 167 per 1,00,000 live births. But this does not reveal the actual state of affairs as IMR in Madhya Pradesh is 52, Odisha 49, Assam 49, Uttar Pradesh 48, Chhattisgarh 43 and Bihar 42. Similarly, with regard to MMR, as against the countrywide average of 167 per 1,00,000 live births, the MMR is 300 in Assam, 285 each in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Rajasthan

244, Odisha 222, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh 221 each, and Jharkhand and Bihar 208 each. Framework of Implementation (2012-2015) had set the target of reducing IMR to 25 per 1,000 live births and bringing down the MMR to 100 per 1,00,000 live births. One of the reasons for this could be the shortfall in the institutional delivery. This shortfall ranges between four per cent to 54 per cent in 14 states, with Arunachal Pradesh recording a shortfall of 54 per cent and Uttarakhand 52 per cent. “The reasons for shortfall in institutional delivery, as gathered during facility survey, were distance of health facilities from villages, lack of public transport and unhygienic surroundings of the Primary Health Centres (PHCs),” the CAG report said. In a shocking revelation, the CAG in its report said that 161 of the 514 PHCs “did not have the facility for delivery”. It included Kerala where all the 12 selected PHCs did not have the delivery facility and the same was the situation in 50 per cent of the PHCs that were surveyed in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Tripura.

Chandigarh, Jul 22 (IANS): The Haryana government on Saturday announced it has decided to tag stray cattle in the state and impose fines on people who let their cattle loose on the roads. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday directed officers of the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department to launch a special campaign to tag stray cattle, as well as those at homes in cities and villages, to prevent people from leaving them on the roads. “Fine would be imposed on anyone found doing so,” Khattar announced in Rohtak town, 70 km from Delhi, on Saturday. On a complaint made by residents of various villages regarding stray cattle, he said that the state government would send stray cattle to ‘gaushalas’ and ‘Nandishalas’ before August 15. Haryana, which has a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government since Octrober 2014, has seen the state government taking several steps for protection of cows.

Mumbai, Jul 22 (IANS): Congress leader, freedom fighter and former Maharashtra Minister Shivajirao Girdhar Patil, who was father of late National Award winning actress Smita Patil, died at a private hospital here on Saturday. He was 92. A widower, Patil’s wife had died in 2015 after 77 years of marriage. He is survived by two daughters, Anita Deshmukh and Manya Seth and grandson, Bollywood actor Pratiek Babbar - the son of Smita who had died in 1986. Plunging into politics in his teens, the young firebrand Patil was attracted to communism in his school days in Dhule. At the age of 15, he was elected president of the Communist Party of India’s student wing, All India Students Federation (AISF) in 1939. Through the AISF and the CPI, he took part in several agitations during the struggle for Independence and was imprisoned for 12 years for various subversive activities. After Independence he switched over to the Congress and was elected thrice to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, to the Legislative Council and served one term in the Rajya Sabha (1992-1998). Handling various ministries during the tenures of Chief Ministers Vasantrao Naik, S.B. Chavan and Vasantrao Patil in the 1950s-1970s, he was conferred the Padma Bhushan

Further, majority of the procurement cases from other than OFB which were initiated by Army headquarters during 2009-13 were pending as of January 2017.” The CAG report also highlighted that “excessive shortage of fuzes” - the “brain of the artillery ammunition” - was also a matter concern. A fuze is fitted to the shell just before firing. The report said that 83 per cent of high calibre ammunition for tanks and artillery with the army were not in a state to be used because they don’t have fuzes. “As the ammunition remain unusable without fuzes, only 17 per cent of scarcely available ammunition would be gainfully utilized for operational requirements.”

Shortage of ammunition: Army can’t fight full scale war New Delhi, Jul 22 (IANS): The Indian Army is battling critical shortage of ammunition, especially for its tanks and artillery, and 121 out of the total 152 types of munition do not meet the minimum levels needed to fight a full-scale war, the government auditor has found. In its latest report on the Army and ordnance factories tabled in Parliament, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has said that in the last few years, no significant improvement was made in the availability of War Wastage Reserve (WWR), which is ammunition needed to meet the requirements of 40 days of intense war or a full-scale war. “Out of 152 types of ammunition, only 31 (21 per cent) met the authorisation of 40 (days). Balance 121 types of ammunition were still below the authorisation level,” the CAG said in its findings. According to Defence Ministry approved standards, the Indian Army is supposed to store am-

Evolutionary politics

N

agaland had been witnessing the shameful episode of political leaders fighting over the chief minister’s chair since 2006-07 and then it became almost an annual ritual since 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. The Naga People’s Front (NPF) which came to power in 2003 and winning four successive assembly elections since, appears to have been running into turbulent weather during the better part of the last 14 years. The principal contestants for power within the NPF are T.R.Zeliang and Neiphiu Rio both former Congressmen and ministers under Dr.S.C.Jamir. Rio left the Congress in 2002 and with former chief minister Vizol and other veterans, rejuvenated the NPC and renamed it NPF. T.R.Zeliang and six others from the Congress caused a split and then merged with the NPF sometime in 2003. The NPF is the only dominant political party in Nagaland and believed to be the oldest regional party in India tracing its history back to the 60s as the United Front of Nagaland(UFN). Regionalism has seen the rise of the NPF and today after being in power for the third consecutive term, it has probably reached its zenith. The constant rumble within has not done the party any service and the worst having been enacted recently during July this month. Dissidence has become synonymous with the NPF. This syndrome will continue till the present 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly ends its tenure. That will perhaps bring some measure of respite but again it is hoped it will not be replicated in the 13th house when old wines are filled in new bottles. There is a saying about crab mentality that is being used to describe the all too frequent dissidence among elected members. After down sizing of ministry after the 91st amendment 2003, the number of ministers for hill states is 20 % of the total strength of the house having a maximum of 60 members. In the remaining states, the amendment has restricted the number of ministers to 15%. Earlier, the number required to escape disqualification under the Tenth Schedule was that a member should be part of a group comprising not less than 1/3rd of the strength of the party. Later it paragraph 3 of the Tenth Schedule was omitted in 2003 and now it was not about a split but merger of not less than 2/3rd of the members of a political party. When 2/3rd of the members of a party merge with another party or a new party, the members will not be subjected to disqualification. The NPF has today been reduced to 16 MLAs- ten loyalists of deposed chief minister Dr.Shürhozelie Liezietsü and six from the dissident majority group headed by expelled NPF member and present chief minister T.R.Zeliang. The NPF had 48 legislators but it was reduced to 47 after one vacated the seat for the July 29 by election where Dr.Shürhozelie will be contesting to become a member of the house in order to retain the post of chief minister. The present scenario is witnessing a very unusual political event where around 75% of the legislators in T.R.Zeliang’s camp have either been expelled or suspended from the NPF. The present house has no opposition but strangely, this role could be taken up by the eleven MLAs loyals of Dr.Shürhozelie and belonging to the same party. The political map of Nagaland is topsy turvy and what happens in the next few days or weeks could determine if regionalism will survive.

DailyDevotion Sanctification (1) This is the will of God, your sanctification… —1 Thessalonians 4:3 The Death Side. In sanctification God has to deal with us on the death side as well as on the life side. Sanctification requires our coming to the place of death, but many of us spend so much time there that we become morbid. There is always a tremendous battle before sanctification is realized— something within us pushing with resentment against the demands of Christ. When the Holy Spirit begins to show us what sanctification means, the struggle starts immediately. Jesus said, “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate…his own life…he cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:26). In the process of sanctification, the Spirit of God will strip me down until there is nothing left but myself, and that is the place of death. Am I willing to be myself and nothing more? Am I willing to have no friends, no father, no brother, and no self-interest— simply to be ready for death? That is the condition required for sanctification. No wonder Jesus said, “I did not come to bring peace but a sword” (Matthew 10:34). This is where the battle comes, and where so many of us falter. We refuse to be identified with the death of Jesus Christ on this point. We say, “But this is so strict. Surely He does not require that of me.” Our Lord is strict, and He does require that of us. Am I willing to reduce myself down to simply “me”? Am I determined enough to strip myself of all that my friends think of me, and all that I think of myself? Am I willing and determined to hand over my simple naked self to God? Once I am, He will immediately sanctify me completely, and my life will be free from being determined and persistent toward anything except God (see 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24). When I pray, “Lord, show me what sanctification means for me,” He will show me. It means being made one with Jesus. Sanctification is not something Jesus puts in me— it isHimself in me (see 1 Corinthians 1:30).

68th Foundation Day - Family Planning Association of India

E

stablished in 1949, the Family Planning Association of India (FPA India) is a founding member of International Planned Parenthood Federation. FPA India strengthens a voluntary commitment to advocate for SRH and Rights and, choices. It promotes access to SRH information and services related to family planning, safe abortions, HIV/AIDS and sexuality to poor, marginalised and vulnerable populations including young people. Its work in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) covers safe motherhood and child survival, empowerment of women, male involvement, adolescent health and youth development. FPAI works closely with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the government. FPAI operates over 4,000 service points spread across 17 states in India. A community-centred approach is at the core of FPAI’s work. Our programmes are designed to deliver improved health and standards of living, better decision-making, and greater self-reliance. It aims to enable men and women to form local voluntary groups to initiate action in communities. Work primarily focuses on under-served rural areas and urban slums. The organization exploits a variety of media to impart its message, including film, radio, newsletters, journals and other print materials, as part of a wide-ranging education programme addressing topics such as family planning, maternal and child health, the risks of unsafe abortion, infertility, the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and counselling for newlyweds. FPAI encourages the empowerment of women through mahila mandals (women’s groups), literacy and income generation programmes. It’s been addressing the concerns of young people in a holistic manner through Sexuality Education, Counselling, Research, Training/Therapy (SECRT) Centres spread across the country. The centres offer youth-friendly services that prepare young people for their future by building the confidence and self-esteem essential to forging healthy relationships. They also offer counselling and information on various developmental issues, including sex, coping with peer pressure, relationships, responsible sexual behaviour, marriage, parenthood, contraception and the prevention of STIs including HIV and AIDS. As an advocate, FPAI exerts influence through community representatives, through the media, and through representation on government bodies such as the Central Health and Welfare Council and Steering Committee on Population Education. Vision

W

FPA India envisions sexual and reproductive health for all as a human right, including gender equality leading to alleviation of poverty, population stabilization and sustainable development. Mission FPA India strengthens a voluntary commitment to advocate for SRH and Rights and, choices. It promotes access to SRH information and services related to family planning, safe abortions, HIV/ AIDS and sexuality to poor, marginalised and vulnerable populations including young people. Family planning means the conscious effort of couples or individuals to plan for; and attain their desired number of children and to regulate the spacing and timing of their births. Family planning is achieved through contraception and through the treatment of infertility. Sexual & reproductive health services is the constellation of methods, techniques and services that contributes to sexual and reproductive health and well-being through preventing and managing sexual and reproductive health problems. Adolescence is the period of transition from childhood to adulthood, describing both the development to sexual maturity and to psychological and relative economic independence. The World Health Organisation uses the 10 – 19 year age range to define adolescence, with further divisions for early adolescence: 10 – 14 years, and late adolescence: 15 – 19 years. In FPA India’s strategic plan Adolescence includes young people in the age group of 10 – 24 years. Brief history of Nagaland branch FPA India, Nagaland Branch is a locally owned, nationally and globally connected social impact movement; we work to ensure people are free to make choices about their sexuality and well-being, in a World without discrimination. The initiative for setting up the Branch was taken by Mr. S.P Sinha along with a group of eminent social worker of the State towards the end of 1976. The preliminary meeting

What an irony!

hen it comes to our tribal culture neither the Central Government nor Christianity can bring changes to this so-called traditional authority, as Max Weber calls it. To the former we say we have certain 371A and to the latter we say ‘from time immemorial such things have never happened in our tribal culture’ (for instance women leadership in the church and society). Even Jesus has not been able to make much headway into this ’tribal culture’ till date. In a tribal village no one would volunteer to pose as a village head or a priest. This is due to the fear of the just God who would exact fitting retribution to the erring head. When the community perceived qualities in a person and persuaded him to be a judge, a priest, or other responsible administrator of the village he would be shaken inwardly by the thought that he might misrule, misjudge the people and thus incur God’s retribution. Such retribution was believed to hit not only upon him but to the posterity. If the community forced him to be such a leader against his will he would even commit suicide. Taking such extreme measure was due also to the belief that refusing to comply with the consensus proposal of the community (especially to the village priest) would call for a divine displeasure on him. What a change of practice? Is it due to the civilization which brings also discontent? For, these tribal aspirants for leadership have to persuade their villagers to make them their leaders (the other way round now). If the people would not yield to the verbal promises of the would be benefactors the latter would use all means including money to buy the subjects. What can the subjects expect from a leader who has bought the position himself or herself ? A commodity once bought, the purchaser has the right to use that possession as his/her own property, not for others. Power and authority becomes

commodity in such a time. The seller has nothing to claim on the things that he/she sold already. Tribal ethics taught that taking back what we already gave away or sold out will incur divine judgment – more frequently suffer from rheumatism or gout (in Kyong belief). How can we, unreasonably, make such leaders to whom we sold our votes meet both ends – sell our vote at the same time demand that they visit our roads and bridges, hospitals, schools, public places? We may say such argument will add fuel to the inaction of the leaders today, forgetting that it is we who made them penniless. When we say ‘shame on the public leaders’ pointing at them, the traditional three fingers are pointing toward us without our awareness. Both the public and the leaders are within the vicious circle! Let us, therefore, stop buying positions and also stop selling our sacred right to choose good leaders. This commodity flows first from the public to the rulers. Let the public use it for the promotion of love, mercy, justice and equality as it is meant to be so. The preliterate villagers feared to become leaders because they might commit simony, misuse positions given to them to advance the welfare of the poor, the widows, the orphans, and the needy. In fact there were many tribal leaders who, once they are trusted to be leaders who feared the Power beyond and did very well in ruling the village. They are gone but their posterity is not forgotten by the Righteous Judge. Those were the days before they heard about Jesus the Omnipresent, the merciful, the just, the judge, the truth and the love. Jesus is “a man for the others” who gave his life for those who hated him and opposed him. No leader on earth has had such a leadership style as Jesus had. He also said there will be a time when such righteous rulers will rule with Him. Ezamo Murry, 5th Mile Dimapur

Realization and misconceptions

W

ith intense debates flaring up o n Fa c e b o o k , and reasonable conclusions being summarized in the daily papers, it is no longer relevant to coin that Nagaland is ignorant, anymore. These debates enlightens us with many resourceful insights, and since any action without logical outlook is chaotic, and as the old words of wisdom speaks- A pen is mightier than a sword, the resourcefulness of these debates cannot be ignored… Kudos keyboard warriors! With reasoning, we are on the verge of realizing almost what had been our weaknesses and our untapped strengths. The present political scenario has left everyone under the impression that, since we the people had elected our leaders to govern us, by selling our votes, we have no legitimacy to hold them accountable for

all their heinous acts and crimes perpetuated against the state/citizens. However it has to be ascertained that, “two wrongs do not equalize ten wrongs”. Meaning that, our compulsion/gluttony to make quick bucks around the time of elections does not make up to the extent of development we have been deprived by our elected leaders. A metaphorical example is that- suppose a candidate had spent 20 crores during the election, but after he acquired his position, no stones were left unturned in amassing as much public funds at his disposal, which is why our state has deficit numbering to thousands of crores, aside from all their assets making them super millionaires. We may have been at fault for electing them but we are not at fault for all the bad decisions they choose to perpetuate without an inch sense of accountability

and neglecting the basic requirements of the public, at the least. We the people have accepted that it was due to our ignorance and the impartial system, we are paying our dues- that being said, we are not fully committed to the believe that the elected representatives could merely get away with their misdeeds. As a needle thief may pay a fine of Rs. 10, or even 100, but an elephant thief would be liable to pay fine amounting to lakhs or even be a suitable candidate to remain in a correctional facility. Thus it is highlighted to the government authorities from all folds that natural justice cannot be defied and that they also pay heed to their conscience before the public and not further inject us with the bought authority that they behold. I also trust in the leadership of Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru and Gandhi’s political philosophies.” While appreciating that the NPF had kicked out BJP too, Therie said the Congress and NPF now have a common opponent. “I am looking forward to NPF joining secular forces to fight the cow element. I also hope Legislators will wake up and see the danger Christians are facing today and come out from the grip of Hindu forces to join social, secular and democratic forces,” Therie stated. Frankfurt, Jul 22 (IANS): The German auto manufacturer Audi AG announced that it will recall up to 850,000 cars with six-cylinder and eight-cylinder diesel engines worldwide except the US and Canada, to improve emissions of those cars. As a subsidiary company of Volkswagen Group, the Ingolstadtbased Audi has been involved in diesel emissions scandal and therefore decided to offer its customers “a retrofit program” for cars with EU5 and EU6 diesel engines, mainly including getting software for these affected cars updated for free. With the recall action in close consultation with Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority on Friday, the company intends to reduce overall emissions, especially in urban areas, according to its statement, as well as to maintain the future viability of diesel engines.

New Delhi, Jul 22 (IANS): The Indian American Business Council (IABC) on Saturday launched its India-based “national chapter” to provide a platform for micro, small, and medium sized enterprises to expand their businesses. The nonprofit organisation headquartered in Chicago said that it intends to facilitate interaction and co-operation between MSMEs from both the countries. According to IABC, under its aegis three investment deals -- MoUs (memorandum of understandings) -- totalling over $35 million are currently under way. “IABC has been working with industries that include healthcare, manufacturing, energy and infrastructure products and services to provide them with access to collaborations, technical know-how and investors relations,” it said in a statement.

Ahmedabad, Jul 22 (PTI): Calling the Goods and Services Tax (GST) a “great step towards transparency,” Union minister Smriti Irani Saturday urged the business community to become a part of this historic tax reform. “GST is not only a good and simple tax, but also a great step towards transformation. Let us make history and be a part of it, so that we can tell our future generations that we never evaded tax,” she said. Irani was addressing businesspersons at a function on GST here. “When I say GST is a great steps towards transparency, what does that mean? How many consumers before GST knew what all taxes they paid? How much VAT, excise, multi-tax you were paying that you did not know of ? “Now with GST, as consumers and taxpayers,

said time and again that those who want to come into formal economy need not fear. If any (tax) official harasses you, let us know, we will ensure you are not harassed,” the minister maintained. Taking a dig at opposition Congress, Irani said those who are criticising GST are the same people who gained when this tax system was not in place. They are now trying to create fear against the new tax regime among traders. GST actually subsumes 72 taxes and 17 cesses. Post the new tax regime, trucks no longer have to stop at checkpoints to pay octroi (entry tax), she said. On input tax credit, Irani said the provision is to give money back for paying GST. “That is one element of GST, which is giving you back for being a productive Indian, and for being an honest Indian.

Samples tested from these companies were found to be not of standard quality during a drug survey carried out through the National Institute of Biologicals over two years, according to a Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) notification posted on its website. A Pfizer spokesperson said the company was unable to confirm authenticity of products picked for the tests, or the evidence of the alleged deficiencies “as the due process of providing a sealed market sample was not followed”. Samples of the company’s products were found to be fully compliant with all required specifications during tests at independent FDA-approved laboratories, the spokesperson said, adding that this was com-

New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI): Silver surged by Rs 600 to Rs 39,350 per kg at the bullion market today, largely in sync with a firm trend overseas and increased offtake by industrial units. Gold, however, held steady at Rs 29,150 per ten gram in scattered deals. Traders attributed the spike in silver prices to positive global cues and pick-up in demand from industrial units at the domestic spot market. Globally, the white metal rose by 1.20 per cent to USD 16.50 an ounce and gold by 0.84 per cent to USD 1,254.50 an ounce in New York in yesterday’s trade. In the national capital, silver ready surged by Rs 600 to Rs 39,350 per kg while weekly-based delivery traded up by Rs 335 to Rs 38,150 per kg. Yesterday, silver ready rose by Rs 250 to close at Rs 38,750 per kg.

benami property law in acquiring these assets by the state is going to be a big deterrent and already revenue department has started doing that. “The sooner this business of routing this money through the shell companies does collapse, I think the better it is going to be for the formal economy for this country,” he said. The amended benami property law, Jaitley said is “sending shiver down the spine” of those who conventionally used this methodology of round tripping of tax avoided money or corruption money and bringing it back into the system. Goods and Services Tax (GST), rolled out on July 1, is the biggest taxation reform since Independence and is expected to boost GDP growth and help tax evasion as every transaction in the value chain gets recorded digitally.

six months to one year to print a new currency supply due to technical difficulties in producing counterfeit resistant currency. India’s biggest problem was that it did not have nearly enough new notes in hand to exchange the old ones, Rogoff said. “My recommendation is to very gradually over 5-7 years eliminate large denomination notes. It is important to move slowly, so to avoid collateral damage,” he said. He argued that some countries had approached demonetisation in a better way like Europe phasing of 500 euro notes, Singapore’s discontinuation of $10,000 notes and Australia on discontinuing $100. However, the Harvard professor said it will take years to judge the full impact of India’s demonetisation move in accelerating electronic payments and the larger picture is that the government has done much to promote financial inclusion.

New Delhi, Jul 22 (IANS): Post demonetisation, there has been a visible channelising of money towards financial assets like insurance and mutual funds, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor Viral Acharya said on Saturday. “It will take us many years to understand the outcome of demonetisation. I sense that in financial assets, something has changed as black money transactions are now not easy,” Acharya said at the Delhi Economics Conclave 2017 here organised by the Finance Ministry. “Insurance premium collection is on rise since November. If it continues, it will change the valuation of financial assets,” he said. There has been a nonlinear shift since NovemberDecember last year, the Deputy Governor noted. Bond holding is not attractive for tax evasion, he said. According to Acharya, people earlier a very clear intention to invest black money in real estate and

lead to greater compliance, greater digitisation. And the first signs of greater digitisation, expansion of the tax base of direct and indirect taxes is already visible,” Jaitley said. Speaking at the Delhi Economics Conclave organised by the Finance Ministry, he said the first significant step taken by the government, which shook the system, was penal action against those who stashed money abroad. He said one easy format of subversion has always been the shell companies, which are created by multilayering of companies. “This had almost become standard operating procedure and this was not only used by businesses but was used to round trip corruption money by politicians, by civil servants,” the minister added. Jaitley said not only the detection of this but the decision to invoke the

New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Saturday said demonetisation and GST will make cash transactions a lot more difficult and lead to greater compliance as well as expansion of tax base. Jaitley said the government has come out with laws to contain overseas black money as well as those dealing with domestic black money and cracking down on shell companies. The minister said the country had reconciled to a Indian normal -- a very large number of tax non-compliance and very large amount of transaction which took place outside the system. “There was almost a helplessness in trying to deal with the situation. Six die in latest IsraeliPalestinian violence JERUSALEM, JUL 22 (AGENCIES): Stabbings and clashes that left six people dead raised fears on Saturday of further IsraeliPalestinian violence as tensions mount over new security measures at a highly sensitive Jerusalem holy site, reports AFP. Friday’s violence -- a stabbing attack that killed three Israelis and clashes which left three Palestinians dead -- was among the most severe in recent years. There were concerns over whether it would spark wider unrest as Israeli officials grappled with how to ease tensions over the Haram al-Sharif mosque compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount. The site in Jerusalem’s Old City that includes the revered Al-Aqsa mosque and Dome of the Rock has been a rallying cry for Palestinians. In 2000, then Israeli opposition leader Ariel Sharon’s visit to the compound helped ignite the second Palestinian intifada, or uprising, which lasted more than four years. Tensions have risen throughout the past week because of new Israeli security measures at the compound following an attack nearby that killed two policemen on July 14. The measures have included the installation of metal detectors at entrances to the site, which Palestinians reject since they view the move as Israel asserting

further control over it. Israeli authorities say the July 14 attackers smuggled guns into the holy site and emerged from it to shoot the policemen. Friday’s main weekly Muslim prayers -- which typically draw thousands to Al-Aqsa -- brought the situation to a boil. In anticipation of protests, Israel barred men under 50 from entering the Old City for prayers, stoking further Palestinian anger. Clashes broke out between Israeli security forces and Palestinians around the Old City, in other parts of annexed east Jerusalem and in the occupied West Bank.

Philippines extends martial law in Mindanao MANILA, JUL 22 (AGENCIES): Philippine lawmakers on Saturday voted to retain martial law on the southern island of Mindanao until the end of the year, giving President Rodrigo Duterte more time to tackle armed extremists allied with the Islamic State group. Some 261 legislators agreed to extend military rule in a seven hour-long joint special session of the House of Representatives and the Senate, more than the required two-thirds of the house. Security officials had told lawmakers that martial law was needed to stabilize a region where Islamic State was gaining influence, and supporters could be inspired

to stage uprisings in other areas of Mindanao, joined by foreign jihadists. Defence Secretar y Delfin Lorenzana warned of more serious problems if the government did not have the powers to act swiftly. “We need martial law because we haven’t addressed yet the existence of other Daesh-inspired groups,” he said, referring to another name for Islamic State. Duterte placed Mindanao under martial law on May 23 when heavily-armed militants belonging to the Maute and Abu Sayyaf groups along with foreign fighters stormed Marawi City, sparking the biggest security crisis of his presidency.

tinian broke into a home in a Jewish settlement in the West Bank during a Sabbath dinner and stabbed four Israelis, killing three of them. The 19-year-old Palestinian was shot by a neighbour, an off-duty soldier, and was taken to hospital. The Israeli army said he had spoken of the Jerusalem holy site and of dying as a martyr in a Facebook post. The Israelis killed in Neve Tsuf, north of Ramallah and also known as Halamish, were a grandfather and two of his children, an Israeli military official said. The grandmother was wounded. Israeli soldiers raided the Palestinian’s nearby village of Kobar overnight and arrested his brother, an army spokeswoman said. Preparations were also being made to demolish the attacker’s home, a measure Israel regularly employs because it views it as a deterrent, although human rights groups say it amounts to collective punishment.

16 Afghan police killed in US airstrike

Border fences will stop Muslim migration, says Hungary’s PM

‘May to stay as PM until at least 2020’

KANDAHAR, JUL 22 (AFP): A US airstrike killed 16 Afghan police and wounded two others in Helmand province, officials said today. The incident took place yesterday around 5 pm as Afghan security forces were clearing a village of Taliban elements, Salam Afghan, Helmand police spokesman, told AFP. “In the strike, 16 Afghan policemen were killed including two commanders. Two other policemen were wounded,” he said. Omar Zwak, Helmand provincial governor spokesman, confirmed the strike and gave the same account. It occurred in Gereshk district in Helmand, large parts of which are under Taliban control. NATO’s mission in Afghanistan issued a statement. “During a US-supported (Afghan security) operation, aerial fires resulted in the deaths of the friendly Afghan forces who were gathered in a compound,” it said. “We would like to express our deepest condolences to the families affected by this unfortunate incident,” the statement said, adding there would be a probe into what happened. The US is the only foreign force in the coalition conducting airstrikes in Afghanistan. Acting interior ministry spokesman Najeeb Danish gave a lower death toll than the provincial officials.

BUDAPEST (HUNGARY), JUL 22 (AGENCIES): European Union leaders and HungarianAmerican billionaire George Soros are seeking a “new, mixed, Muslimized Europe,” Hungary’s antimigration prime minister said Saturday. Prime Minister Viktor Orban said during a visit to Romania that Hungary’s border fences, supported by other Central European countries, are the barriers to the EU-Soros effort to increase Muslim migration, reports AP. Orban also said that while Hungary opposed taking in migrants “who could change the country’s cultural identity,” he said that under his leadership Hungary would remain a place where “Western European Christians will always be able to find security.” Orban, who will seek a fourth term as prime minister in April 2018, said Hungary’s opposition parties were no match for his government. “In the upcoming campaign, first of all we have to confront external powers,” Orban said at a cultural festival in Baile Tusnad, Romania. “We have to stand our ground against the Soros mafia network and the Brussels bureaucrats. And, during the next nine months, we will have to fight against the media they operate.” Soros has become a key target of Orban and his

LO N D O N, J U L 2 2 (AGENCIES): British transport minister Chris Grayling, one of Prime Minister Theresa May’s closest cabinet colleagues, has predicted she will remain in the job until at least 2020 and could even fight another national election, reports Reuters. Following reports of cabinet infighting, Grayling said in an interview with the Daily Telegraph, published on Saturday, he was confident May would continue as prime minister once Brexit has been achieved in March 2019 because “she commands the overwhelming support of the Conservative Party”. Grayling was May’s campaign manager when she won the Conservative Party leadership in 2016. May’s authority has been weakened after she lost her parliamentary majority in June’s election. She has vowed to stay on as prime minister, and senior members of her party say there is no appetite for a leadership contest or a fresh election. However, that has not stopped reports of infighting among ministers as potential successors vie for her job. The Daily Telegraph asked Grayling whether he thought May would still be PM in 2020, rather than being forced out after Brexit in 2019. He said: “I absolutely want her to be and I think she will be.”

government. Recent legislation seeks to close or expel the Budapest-based Central E u r o p e a n U n ive r s i t y, founded by Soros in 1991. There are also new rules about non-governmental organizations funded at least partly from abroad. Critics say that the new regulations stigmatize the NGOs, many of which are backed by Soros’ Open Society Foundations, and are meant to delegitimize them. Orban reiterated his charge that Soros-funded NGOs want to weaken Hungary’s security with their advocacy for asylumseekers, while Hungary had managed to stop the “migrant invasion” with the fences protected by razorwire built on the borders of Serbia and Croatia. A recently ended antiSoros billboard and poster campaign was criticized by local and international Jewish groups for its anti-Semitic overtones. Asked about

For fiscal 2016, $900 million were marked for Pakistan, $550 million of which Islamabad had already received. However, before withholding of $50 million announced on Friday, Defence Secretary James Mattis’ predecessor Ash Carter decided last year to withhold another $300 million of the funding. In the statement, Stump said the 2016 funds had to be “released or reprogrammed” before their expiration. WELLINGTON, JUL 22 (IANS): New Zealand on Saturday declared a state of emergency in several parts of South Island that have been affected by heavy floods. Emergency has been declared in Christchurch, Dunedin, Selwyn and Otago region, which has received the highest rainfall, measuring some 200 mm in 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Civil Defence. In Timaru, a port city with nearly 29,000 inhabitants, the state of emergency was active earlier in the day and lifted once the water level receded, reports Efe news. Authorities have evacuated the residents from areas considered dangerous. Evacuations have also been carried out in Christchurch.

WASHINGTON, JUL 22 (IANS): The Pentagon has said it will not give Pakistan the remainder of a key US military reimbursement fund allotted to the country for 2016 due to Islamabad’s insufficient counterterrorism action. The Pentagon an nounced the move to withhold $50 million in “Coalition Support Funds” on Friday, saying it had determined Pakistan had not taken “sufficient action” against the Haqqani network, the Taliban offshoot responsible for numerous attacks in neighboring Afghanistan, the Washington Post reported. “This decision does not reduce the significance of the sacrifices that the

The US in 2012 designated the Haqqani Network as a terrorist organization. Mattis earlier told lawmakers that the Pentagon’s new approach in Afghanistan would focus more on Pakistan, a country long seen as a problem by US officials because of its lawless border regions where Taliban and Haqqani militants often encamp and regroup before flowing back towards Kabul, the report said.

A review of Nana: A Tale Of Us her father, if nothing is done about the many depressing concerns, it will only fade away like the echo. But on the whole, this film should be lauded for giving the viewers the central message that, if change is to happen, it should begin from the family, that, a family lies at the heart of imbibing and also rebuilding moral values. It is a paramount need especially

S

et on the backdrop of corruption and the need for Clean Election in Nagaland, this 140 minute film directed by Tiakumzuk Aier is about the need for change. The film has rightly portrayed NANA’s family centring on their young daughter ‘NANA’ – the protagonist who carries the dreams, hopes and happiness. Her character is an apt reflection of the many dreams, hopes, and the realization of which will culminate in happiness within the longing for a better Nagaland. I leave aside the technicalities like the sound, music, editing, videography etc., but in the context of the film, there are some scenes worth highlighting for the ethical and moral lessons it offers. The voting scene which portrays a man standing to uphold his moral principles so also the father who was harassed at gunpoint for endorsing clean election and clean leader is a moral lesson for all for the reason that the real test of character comes not just through the word of mouth but through resoluteness in ones principle and integrity during testing times. Election 2018 will also be a test for those perpetuating clean election through the word of mouth. In another scene, the ‘good doc-

for a society swallowed by corruption. As rightly narrated, almost all the families have a ‘NANA’ at home. We need to take care of ‘NANA’ if we want change for a better Nagaland. Consequently, if we also want clean election to work, we need to work through the heart of ‘NANA’ in generating a clean heart.

The rural setting; the slow unfolding of the real character of Nana’s father; the various elements of violence, friendship, romance; the comical presence of ‘Rev. Patrix,’ and a bit overboard ‘dramatic’ ending are traits that will keep viewers both emotionally engaged as well as entertained. Well, it is truly a tale of ‘us.’ (Dr. Asangba Tzudir)

Designers craft music video to celebrate ‘Global Indian Women’

D

esigner Pooja Bhutani and her entrepreneur husband Gaurav Bhutani have announced the launch of “Elysian Desire- Frame ‘2’ Fame Sydney”, a music video that celebrates global indian women along with ace Photographer Akash Das and director Vishal Chaturvedi. The Frame ‘2’ Fame music video and calendar will showcase real life mod-

els coming from all over Australia and intent to make a global footprint in the field of fashion, glitz and glamour. Simran Gulati, first runner of Mrs India Australia 2016 and singer and model Monisha Sami are among those who are part of the video. “We bring out the fusion of Sweat, glitz and glamour quotient of global Indian women and televise it for the first time,” Gaurav

said in a statement. “The Frame ‘2’ Fame Sydney music video shoot shall comprise of the Global Indian Women from all over Australia , as their style quotient will become global inspiration for all women and post this shoot we will be taking Frame 2 Fame to other parts of the world and glorifying many such Global Indian Women,” Pooja added.

tor’ writing off the medical bill in his name also reverberates with the condition of health care delivery particularly in the rural areas and the high costs of medical treatment especially for the poor. The doctor through his good deed shows that doctors can act as ethical and moral keepers in their profession. The ‘mad man’ may lend as a character in a typical village setting but it reminds of our society enmeshed in a kind of ‘madness syndrome’ and the need for a mad man to teach the ‘maddened people.’ In life, the saddest part is doing something bad even out of force without giving thought to the consequences only to regret later. This film teaches us the consequences of wrongful acts and the importance of thinking before acting upon a certain action. Ultimately, all things – good and bad will be revealed. Most importantly, teacher Grace’s ability to forgive the ‘unforgivable’ is also a timely reminder to give love and forgiveness for a society that finds fragmented on various sinister lines. These are traits to initiate a process of healing. The film may be seen as one reverberating on the tones of the need for clean election in Nagaland and like the echo of Nana and K-1796

hang around,” Rai said after his meeting with BCCI officials. It is learnt that with the Under-19 World Cup next year and some A series also lined up, Dravid will be available if chief coach Ravi Shastri wants him when the senior team camps at the National Cricket Academy. This effectively rules Dravid out of the South Africa tour as speculated in certain sections.

Rai also admitted that in case of Zaheer Khan, they are “struggling” to create a template in which his IPL contract can be balanced with his consultancy role. “Earlier, there was no system in place. We are trying to set templates. Zaheer is very much in scheme of coaching various Indian teams but we can only have him after we have a contract in place. “We can’t just tell Zaheer okay we give you a three month or three week contract and these are conditions. We have to also look into his IPL contract, media commitments,” Rai explained. CEO Johri then added: “Ravi is in touch with Zaheer. In any case, he will be available not before South Africa series.”

Blues beat Arsenal 3-0 in Beijing

Just two minutes later, Premier League Player of the Year N’Golo Kante took the ball inside Arsenal’s half and fed it to Batshuayi, who beat Ospina with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box. Indian eves finish 8th at HWL Semis

Ireland beat India in the playoff for seventh on Saturday.

Johannesburg, Jul 22 (IANS): India conceded two goals in as many minutes in the final quarter as they lost 1-2 to Ireland in the 7th/8th placement match of the Womens Hockey World League (HWL) Semi Final here on Saturday. India got the lead in the 15th minute as Gurjit Kaur successfully converted a penalty corner by firing the ball low to the left. There was plenty of entertainment in the second quarter with India dominating with improvised circle penetrations. During one such circle entry in the 24th min-

ute, Navjot Kaur was obstructed by Ireland keeper Ayeisha McFerran which resulted in her being sent away with a yellow card for 10 minutes. India were awarded a penalty stroke; however, nothing came off the opportunity with Ireland’s stand-by goalkeeper Grace O’Flanagan making a great save. India lost another opportunity to double their lead when a goal was disallowed as it came off the back stick of Indian striker Rani Rampal in the 28th minute. Coming into the match after a 10-minute halftime break, India won

back-to-back penalty corners in the 31st minute but they couldn’t convert the chances. With India failing to seal the match, Ireland were never out of the match. They struck the equaliser in the 47th minute with a clinical variation in their penalty corner attempt that saw Kathryn Mullan finding a perfect deflection to put it past Savita. One minute later, Lizzie Colvin gave them the lead through a penalty corner. Though India made desperate attempts to equalise, the Ireland defence stood strong to win the match.
