Prime Minister’s intervention was made during a high-level meeting he chaired on Saturday to review the status of the coronavirus pandemic situation in India. Prime Minister Modi is also reported to have praised the authorities for their coordinated efforts to contain the pandemic in Delhi and asked for the adoption of a similar approach in the national capital region (NCR) comprising several districts of UP, Rajasthan and Haryana adjoining the national capital. “Priority is close monitoring and guiding the containment works in regions where the infection rate is high,” the prime minister wrote on Twitter after holding a review meeting to take stock of the COVID-19 situation in various parts of the country and the preparedness of various states. “Had an extensive
NPCC asks state govt to provide uninterrupted power DIMAPUR, JUL 11 (NPN): Drawing the attention of the state government to erratic power supply, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) urged upon the state government to concentrate on providing uninterrupted power supply. In a press release Saturday, NPCC president, K Therie, asked the government to at least provide dependable power supply if providing uninterrupted power supply was not possible. He said that in the present age, people deserved uninterrupted power supply and even if adequate funding was a constraint in the past, it was not an issue at present. Therie, who was power minister in Congress government, recalled that at his closing term, the power department had planned to improve the transmission and distribution system in Dimapur by projecting an estimate of Rs. 78 crore which was accordingly sanctioned by the centre. Therie opined that presently since there was no issue about load shedding, the erratic power supply may have to do with the transmission and distribution (Cont’d on p-8) system.

During the meeting, the Ahmedabad model of home-based care through ‘Dhanvantri Rath’ and surveillance was picked up for special commendation for its success in containment of the disease and it was directed that it may be emulated in other places. The Union home minister had stepped in last month to handle the coronavirus situation in the national capital amid rising cases and criticism in different quarters of the Delhi government’s handling of the COVID-19 situation, with complaints of non-availability of beds in hospitals for patients and difficulty in getting the tests done in laboratories. Create more dental surgeon posts: IDANSB
DIMAPUR: Indian Dental Association Nagaland State Branch (IDANSB) has appealed the state government for creation of more dental surgeons post, upgradation of dental sector, fair and transparent means of recruitment in recently created post for health care workers under Health & Family department. A press release by IDANSB president, Dr. Kaketo Yepthomi stated that, there should be creation of dental surgeon posts in all community health centres (CHC) in the interest of the general public. It mentioned that out of the 28 CHCs in the state, only 5 posts were created against 5 CHCs in Feb 2012. After a gap of 8 long years, 3 new posts were recently created.
IDANSB further asked that posts of specialist/consultants in district hospitals be provided to enhance quality health care services, while post of dental hygienist in district hospital and CHCs be taken as must to assist the dental surgeons. It also called for upgradation of dental equipments in all district hospitals and CHCs pointing out that department of Health and Family welfare has not issued/supplied even a single equipment or material to dental sector. Pointing out that at present, altogether there were only 14 functional dental chairs in the whole of Nagaland, namely 1 (one) dental chair in Kohima District Hospital NHAK (semi-functional), 2 (two) in Dimapur Dis-
trict Hospital, 2 (two) in Mokokchung, 2 (two) in Tuensang and 1 (one) each in rest of districts hospitals, the IDANSB claimed that most of the dental units were either in semi-function or non-functional state due to non maintenance. IDANSB, therefore urged the government that atleast 5 (five) fully functional dental chairs be provided in district hospitals like Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung where hundreds of patients walk in everyday to seek treatment and minimum 3 (three) functional dental chairs in every districts hospitals. It also stated that portable Xray for diagnosis, light cure, ultrasonic scaling equipment, computer set and other necessary materials

and consumable items be supplied to district hospitals and CHCs on regular basis. IDANSB further appealed for provision of adequate safety equipments and measures to all dental surgeons, so that infection control and prevention of this dreadful COVID-19 disease can be done while providing oral health care services to people in need. On the issue of the recently created post under department of Health and Family Welfare, the IDANSB stated that selection of candidates basing on the marks obtained in university examinations cannot be considered fair, since scoring of marks in examinations can vary a great deal from university to university and government
or private run institute. To adopt fair, transparent and acceptable means of recruitment, the IDANSB has appealed government that preference must be first given to meritorious candidates/government nominees who underwent medical studies by qualifying JEE in the interest of hundreds of aspiring medical graduates. IDANSB also stated that dental surgeons have been rendering their services with all sincerity in fighting the novel COVID19 pandemic, where every technical branch (MBBS, BDS, Ayush, nursing, drug control and food safety) under department of Health and Family Welfare has their own designated duty and role to play in delivering health care services.

Dog import ban: NVCO asks govt to re-consider decision
DIMAPUR: Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has appealed the state government to re-consider its decision to “ban commercial import and trading of dogs, dog markets and the sale of dog meat, both cooked and uncooked”, while terming the ban “unconstitutional”. In a press release, NVCO press & media cell, said the state cabinet decision taken solely in response to a letter written by Maneka Ghandhi, BJP MP, may not be “fair enough” for the people of Nagaland who consume dog meat as “part of diet food having medicinal values; for building immunity and which is considered as an indigenous food”. NVCO pointed out that Naga ancestors have been consuming dog meat and that the meat was also considered as the “diet of the native and indigenous people”. NVCO also acknowledged that there are many Nagas who do not
eat dog meat and considered dogs as companions or pets. It also maintained that NVCO support Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act and that authority should initiate action upon any person who violates the law. Asserting that imposing a ban would amount to infringement of people’s dietary practices, NVCO said there is no law to impose a uniform code of food ethics on all in the country. It then termed that ban by the state government as unconstitutional. NVCO reminded the state government not to control our “unique traditional indigenous food item” adding that “outsiders or central government” should not be allowed “to dictate our unique food habits”. Further, NVCO has appealed the Naga Tribal Hohos and civil society organisations to come forward “to protect our unique indigenous food which is part of our tradition and customary”. K Y M C

Gadkari bats for logistics management Correspondent
Shillong, Jul 11: Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari on Saturday emphasized on innovation, entrepreneurship, science, technology, research skills and successful practices and conversion of knowledge into wealth as the future for the country. “Unless innovative transportation models are executed, high logistic management cost will remain,” he said, addressing an e-symposium on Logistics Management under the e-Symposia Series on Emergent North East India: Strategic and Developmental Imperatives, hosted by the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research & Analysis under the aegis of IIM Shillong. Congratulating IIM Shillong on its delivery of business, management, and innovation leadership, Gadkari said, “I believe that you have a relatable responsibility to oversee the socio-economic growth of the region. This can only be achieved through cooperation, coordination and communication with stakeholders of the region.” Also ruing on the country’s extensive import re-

quirement despite the presence of minerals like copper, aluminium, gold, and coal as examples, Gadkari felt that impetus is on management institutes to contribute management strategies and solutions by comprehensively assessing the strengths and weaknesses related to industrial uplift. Speaking specifically on logistics management, Gadkari opined the need to augment water transport while citing its cost effectiveness as compared to road or railway mode of transportation while sharing his insights on possibility of boosting Ro-Ro and Ropax water travel mode for easy connectivity, and cutting short distance coverage using the mighty Brahmaputra. Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal said that under the leadership
of Prime Minister Modi, the centre is unleashing undivided policy attention towards the North Eastern Region across various dimensions of development while looking at the region as an upcoming engine of growth. “ Wi t h h i s ( M o d i ) policy of transformation through transportation, the Prime Minister has given a special thrust on boosting the connectivity infrastructure of the Northeast,” Sonowal said, adding that the e-symposium would be helpful for us to draw a broad roadmap for realizing the growth visions of Northeast. Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIM Shllong, Shishir Bajoria said, “Logistics is the key for success of anything. This could be very sophisticated with computers running dedicated
programs or something as rudimentary as the Mumbai Dabbawalas who provide a great service to the entire working population of Mumbai. Be it in countries or companies, logistics is vital and strategic”. Moving on to a technical session on opening up of opportunities for NER, Prof Keya Sengupta, Centre Coordinator, said, “Though logistics management forms the backbone for the development of the region, very few serious, and concerted studies have been achieved in the logistics sector. We would therefore be working to fill in this gap, to bring about paradigm change in making the NER a viable logistics corridor”. Member of the Board of Governors, Atul Kulkarni opined, “We are not only looking at NER but also emerging economies of East Asia, and Southeast Asia. I think northeast India is at the crossroads between the three economies, wherein the existing transport corridors will automatically migrate into becoming the logistics corridors and ultimately into economic corridors which is expected to change the per capita income and the entire economy for the region”.

Correspondent Shillong, Jul 11: The National People’s Party (NPP) on Saturday adopted a resolution to fight ‘discrimination’ against Northeast citizens in other parts of the country during the course of its digital conclave that was attended by party functionaries from different parts of the country. “National People’s Party believes in the spirit of our Nation’s founding fathers that our Nation arose in unity amongst diversity. It is in this firm belief that we pledge to voice against discrimination faced by citizens of the North East in various parts of our country and to work towards national integration and respect for one another. As the only Party with a National status originating from the North East Region, we unanimously pass a resolution to voice and fight against discrimination of North East citizens based on race, culture region and religion. This sitting unanimously passes this resolution," the NPP stated. The “Digital Conclave” was attended by the National president of NPP, Conrad K. Sangma, National Secretaries James K. Sangma, Mutchu Mithi, Dr. Lalrintluanga Jhau, Sashank Ghatraj, Thomas Sangma including president of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram units of the party. Addressing the conclave, Conrad, who is also Meghalaya Chief Minister,
welcomed new members of the party from North Bengal and congratulated newly elected Rajya Sabha Member from Meghalaya Dr. W. R. Kharlukhi, who also attended the meeting via video conference. “Political scenario in the nation, particularly Northeast has seen a lot of change in the past few years. We clearly see that there is a vacuum as far as leadership is concerned. Today people are becoming politically inclined and sensitive as they want political parties to represent their aspiration. In this situation, the role and responsibility for a party like NPP is of paramount importance,” he said. Conrad said that NPP has to “truly evolve” and adapt to the changing dynamics of the political scenario and reach out to the masses and work towards fulfilling their aspirations. “In less than six years of its formation, NPP has got the status of a national party, where many other political parties are still struggling. It is not just a matter of pride but an indication that the party has been widely accepted in the region and the people want NPP to be the voice and the platform for the unheard,” the NPP chief said. He also urged the party leaders to strengthen its footprints across different parts of the country, particularly in East and Northeast and focus on issues that connect the region and work together as a team to make the “voices of our people heard loud and clear”.
Meghalaya imposes lock down in Shillong as COVID-19 cases mount
Correspondent
Shillong, Jul 11: The Meghalaya government on Saturday announced a two-day lockdown in Shillong Urban Agglomeration on July 13 and July 14 after COVID-19 positive cases continue to surge in Shillong and the State as a whole, with most of the cases reported from the Border Security Force (BSF). So far, the total active cases in Meghalaya have climbed up to 236 and most of the cases are from the BSF Meghalaya Frontier headquarters here. On Saturday alone, 47 cases were reported, that included 30 BSF and 17 civilians. Out of the total 236 active case, 159 are from the BSF, two from the Indian Air Force and others include 44 in East Khasi Hills district, 20 in Ri Bhoi district, 2 in East Jaintia Hills district and 9 in West Garo Hills district, even as the recovery figure remains at 45. Announcing the two-day ‘lockdown the
virus through Behaviour Change’, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the lockdown period would be utilized to trace high risk contacts of positive persons and also allow health workers to create awareness on the health protocols that need to be followed. He said the surrounding areas of Shillong Urban Agglomeration shall be under curfew until 0600 hours of July 15. “We have serious numbers and a majority of these cases are from the BSF. More than 95 per cent of the cases that are presently active in the State are from Shillong. Two distinct and worrisome characteristics of this virus are its high transmissibility and invisible nature (asymptomatic). Therefore, on 13 and 14 July there would be lockdown in Shillong urban agglomeration. The only way to handle its spread is to understand these two important characteristics of this virus by every individual,” he informed. During this lock-
down period the community COVID management committees and the newly established “Behaviourial change management committees” would create awareness about the cardinal principles of Behaviour Change at the household level. “Remember, we need to fight and isolate this virus together, not just the Government or the Health workers, but we all need to be COVID Warriors,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the behaviour change is possible only by strengthening the capacity of every individual by practicing the necessity to wear a mask, maintain physical distancing and practicing hand hygiene to isolate the virus in their own space. “This lockdown period will also be used for tracing the contacts of the positive persons who are in Shillong so that further spread may be contained,” Sangma said and urged that everyone strictly adheres to the lockdown so that the virus can be isolated.

And back in his Kanpur village Bikru, the scene of the July 3 ambush in which eight policemen were killed, Rapid Action Force was deployed and police vehicles circled the area, breaking the hush with announcements asking people to come forward with information. The Uttar Pradesh government set up a special investigation team to investigate the connivance of the local police as the threedecade crime saga pivoting around the 47-year-old, who faced 61 criminal cases, including eight of murder, neared its end. The SIT will be headed by Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Bhoosreddy and will submit its report by July 31 after looking into all angles, said a statement in Lucknow.

The SIT will also probe what action was taken to cancel the bail of "such a dreaded criminal", what action has been taken against him under the Goonda Act, the National Security Act, Gangsters Act, and if there was any laxity and at what level, it added. The police forces of several states joined the investigation into the case that had the nation in thrall the entire week, each step of the hunt, his arrest and his encounter death being followed closely, The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra Police arrested two men from Thane. Arvind alias Guddan Ramvilas Trivedi -- Dubey's aide who was allegedly involved in the July 3 ambush when a police team going to arrest the gangster in Bikru
walked into a trap and fell to a hail of bullets fired from rooftops -- was arrested in Thane along with his driver Sushilkunar alias Sonu Tiwari. Both had fled after the killings, said Vikram Deshmane, Superintendent of Police, ATS. In Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior town, Uttar Pradesh Police arrested two men for allegedly giving shelter to two of Dubey's accomplices, Shashikant Pandey and Shivam Dubey, who are also believed to be involved in the July 3 ambush. Vikas Dubey had been on the run since then and was arrested from Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain town, about 470 km from Gwalior, on July 9. He was picked up at the city's famed Mahakal temple and shot dead early next morning on the outskirts of Kanpur by UP
Police, who claimed he was trying to flee after the car carrying him overturned on an isolated stretch of road slick with rain. According to a statement from the Special Task Force, the driver had tried to avoid cattle on the road. Enforcement Directorate officials said they are set to file a money laundering case and probe the alleged illegal transactions and tainted assets created by the dead gangster, his family members and associates. The agency's zonal office in Lucknow wrote to the Kanpur police on the matter on July 6, seeking all FIRs and chargesheets filed against him and his linked persons and the latest update in all these cases. The ED, officials said, will soon file a complaint under the Prevention of
Priority is monitoring, containment: PM on COVID-19
PM Modi reviews preparations on COVID-19 pandemic, in New Delhi, Saturday. (PIB/PTI)
New Delhi, July 11 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday appreciated the efforts of the Centre, state and the local authorities in containing the COVID-19 situation in Delhi, and directed that a similar approach be replicated in checking the pandemic in the entire NCR area. “Priority is close monitoring and guiding the containment works in regions where the infection rate is high,” the prime minister wrote on Twitter after holding a review meeting to take stock of the COVID-19 situation in various parts of the country and the preparedness of various states. According to a statement issued by the Prime minister’s Office, Modi also directed that real-time national level monitoring and
guidance should be provided to all affected states and places with high test positivity rates. The prime minister reiterated the need to observe personal hygiene and social discipline in public places. Modi said awareness about the pandemic should be disseminated widely and a continuous emphasis on preventing the spread of the infection should be laid. He said there is no room for any complacency in this regard, according to the statement. “The prime minister appreciated the concerted efforts of the Centre, state and local authorities in containing the pandemic situation in Delhi,” the statement said. “He further directed that a similar approach
should be adopted with other state governments in containing the COVID-19 pandemic in the entire NCR area,” it said. The review meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and the cabinet secretary among others. “Had an extensive meeting to review the COVID-19 situation across the nation. Took stock of the ongoing efforts to contain the infection,” the prime minister said in his tweet. The Union home minister had stepped in last month to handle the coronavirus situation in the national capital amid rising cases and criticism in different quarters of the Delhi government’s handling of the COVID-19
situation, with complaints of non-availability of beds in hospitals for patients and difficulty in getting the tests done in laboratories. Shah had discussed ways to check the spread of the virus in the NCR with the chief ministers of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The NCR comprises districts belonging to Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The prominent ones being Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad. During Saturday’s meet, the “successful example” of surveillance and home-based care through ‘ D h a nva n t r i R a t h ’ i n Ahmedabad was highlighted and it was directed that it may be emulated in other places, the statement said. According to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday morning, India’s COVID-19 tally has crossed the eight-lakh mark. The death toll in the country has climbed to 22,123 with 519 people succumbing to the disease in 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed. Of the 519 new deaths reported, 226 are from Maharashtra, 64 from Tamil Nadu, 57 from Karnataka, 42 from Delhi, 27 from Uttar Pradesh and 26 from West Bengal.
Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to probe criminal proceeds of crime that were allegedly generated by Dubey, his associates and family members and if this money was subsequently used for the creation of illegal movable and immovable properties. Over two dozen named and 'benami' assets linked to Dubey and his family in Uttar Pradesh and some adjoining areas, bank deposits and fixed deposit receipts are under the scanner of the central probe agency, they said. It is also seeking details from other law enforcement agencies about possible undisclosed foreign assets of Dubey and others. As investigation into the man who had escaped the police dragnet for 30 years and was believed by many to personify the politician-police-criminal nexus picked up pace, his village in Bikru was quiet, like a lull after the storm. Most people stayed indoors and nearly 60 policemen kept vigil outside Dubey's house, which was demolished after the ambush. Police personnel made announcements asking people to come forward within 24 hours with information about those who had snatched police weapons. If they failed to do so, action would be initiated. In Lucknow, Dubey's wife Rachna, their son and domestic help came back
Swab samples of J’khand CM, taken for COVID-19 tests Ranchi, Jul 11 (PTI): T h e swa b s a m p l e s o f Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his wife Kalpana and officials working in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) were collected on Saturday for COVID-19 tests, a statement said. Health workers took swab samples of the chief minister, his wife Kalpana Soren, Press Adviser Abhishek Prasad, senior personal secretary Sunil Srivastav and other officials and police officers working in the CMO, the statement from the CMO said. Soren has quarantined himself at his Ranchi residence since July 8 after coming in contact with Drinking and Sanitation Minister Mithilesh Thakur and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA Mathura Mahato, who have tested positive for COVID-19. Both Thakur and Mahato are being treated at the state-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here. COVID-19 tests should be conducted on the maximum number of people, particularly those showing the slightest of the symptoms, to treat them as well as to curb the spread of the infection, Soren was quoted as saying in the statement.
home after his cremation in Kanpur the night before. They were picked up for questioning and kept at a ‘mahila' police station in Kanpur. A police official said Richa Dubey and the maid were questioned for more than five hours. Kanpur Jail Superintendent R K Jaiswal told PTI that they not taken to the district jail or the makeshift jail in Chaubeypur near Bikru due to the coronavirus pandemic. They have not appeared in public since the cremation in Kanpur on Friday, when a distraught Richa Dubey said her husband "did wrong and deserved his fate". The People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has moved the Supreme Court for an SIT probe into the killing of Vikas Dubey and his two aides in Uttar Pradesh, saying the police version of the encounter of the gangster "raises many serious questions". The civil rights organisation, which had moved the apex court seeking an SIT or CBI probe into UP police encounters between January 2017 and March 2018, has filed a fresh interim plea in its pending PIL urging the court to set up a panel headed by a former SC judge to probe the encounters and the nexus between criminals and politicians. It said a police encounter is a "serious crime and an offence against the entire society".
implementation there,” Chavan was quoted as saying by his office in a release on Friday. He said he will hold discussions with the Chief Minister in this regard and was committed to make it more effective than other states. If the law is enacted, along with prohibition on slaughter, sale and use of beef, illegal transportation of animals for slaughtering will be stopped, the release said. Despite resistance from opposition, the then BJP government led by B S Yediyurappa in 2010 had got the controversial Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill passed that
proposed to replace the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964. The bill had widened the definition of ‘cattle’ and imposed a blanket ban on cattle slaughter, coupled with stringent penalty clauses for violation. However, the Congress government headed by Siddaramaiah that came to power in 2013, withdrew the bill that was before the President for his assent. After the BJP came back to power in the state, several party leaders have been making a pitch to re-enact the anti-cow slaughter law.
Mumbai, Jul 11 (PTI): Dharavi slum in Mumbai has emerged as a global role model for containing the spread of novel coronavirus, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Saturday against the backdrop of the WHO's praise. World Health Organisation (WHO) DirectorGeneral Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus had said during a virtual press conference in Geneva on Friday that there were many examples from around the world that have shown that even if the outbreak is very intense, it can still be brought back under control. "And some of these examples are Italy, Spain and South Korea, and even in Dharavi - a densely packed area in the megacity of Mumbai," he had said. Thackeray said that Dharavi has shown to the world that coronavir us spread can be contained via self discipline and community efforts. He said 82 per cent of patients in Dharavi have recovered from the infection, bringing down the number of active cases to only 166. "Dharavi is an inspiration for the world on how to curb the spread of a pandemic," he said in a statement. The CM lauded united efforts of Brihanmumbai Municipal Cor poration (BMC), private doctors, NGOs and local residents in breaking the coronavirus chain. "This journey wasn't easy. Due to united efforts,
Dharavi is on its way to eradicate coronavirus," he said. School Education Minister and Dharavi MLA Varsha Gaikwad tweeted, "I am proud of all my Dharavians as today we have set an example for the word as WHO recognized and praised our efforts on the war against the virus. Lets keep up the good work and we will fight In the most strongest way (sic)". Rahul Shewale, Shiv Sena MP from Mumbai South Central, also hailed the development. "The Dharavi formula should be replicated in the entire state of Maharashtra," he added. The Asia's largest slum, which was once declared a COVID-19 hotspot, has managed to flatten the curve of the viral spread. Kiran Dighavkar, Assistant Commissioner of the G North ward of the BMC had told PTI that the civic body had to change its traditional approach of waiting for patients, contact tracing, isolation and home quarantine to begin proactive screening instead. "Proactive screening helped in early detection, timely treatment and recovery," he said. The number of coronavirus positive patients in Dharavi rose by only 12 to 2,359 on Friday. As per official data, while in April, the doubling rate of cases was 18 days in Dharavi, it gradually improved to 43 days in May. It stood at 108 and 430 days in June and July, respectively.
‘Around 300 terrorists waiting in launch pads to infiltrate into India’
Srinagar, July 11 (IANS): Pakistan is trying to step up infiltration and push in more terrorists into J&K after failing to instigate the people of Kashmir following last year’s August 5 decision of revoking Article 370 . GoC 19 Infantry Division Kashmir Major General Virendra Vats said this at a press conference in Baramulla, North Kashmir on Saturday. “Pakistan has been failing in its attempt to instigate the people of Kashmir ever since we had the momentous decision of August last year, they have been trying very hard, they also know the season is coming to an end very soon, three or four months is what they have, so they shall try their best to push in the terrorists,” he said. The GoC said that the launch pads across the LoC
BJP govt in Karnataka to bring back anti-cow slaughter law
Bengaluru, Jul 11 (PTI): Karnataka will soon implement a ban on cow slaughter, sale and consumption of beef in line with other states, Animal Husbandry Minister Prabhu Chavan has said. The BJP in its manifesto ahead of the 2018 assembly election had promised prohibition of cow slaughter. “The government is committed to enact the anticow slaughter law. Once the Covid-19 crisis eases an expert committee would be constituted to look into its implementation, and if need be, it will visit states like Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh to study about

About Saturday’s operation at Nougam Kupwara in which infiltrators were killed, he said the action of the troops was precise and
timely, thereby ensuring a clean operation. “The infiltration attempt follows similar attempts made by Pakistan in Kupwara and Rajouri sectors in the recent past and needs to be seen in the backdrop of various inputs about increased presence of terrorists in the launch pads across the LoC fully facilitated and supported by the Pakistan army,” he said.

Death of a Don
hether it was fatal justice or simply murder; the controversy surrounding the killing of Kanpur’s dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey has not only raised questions over the Uttar Pradesh Police’s modus operandi but has also brought the focus once again on how the Yogi Adityanath government has reduced UP police “to an encounter tool”. The death of the Kanpur mafia don Vikash Dubey, has also led most people in accepting it as retributive justice for the gangster has been thumbing his nose at the law for the past 29 years. He had 62 cases registered against him that included five cases of murder and eight cases of attempt to murder. In 2001, he openly shot dead BJP leader Santosh Shukla, who was then a Minister of State, in the Shivli police station but was never convicted. It is the end of Dubey and perhaps the end of the sordid chapter of those in high places of power who have been beneficiary accomplices of the gangster. Though Dubey is dead and many will agree that a person like him does not deserve to live; however, the law does not condone two wrongs to make one right. Questions are being raised on the veracity of the killing of the Kanpur Don by the Opposition as well as former police officers, human rights activists and sections of the media. A PIL has also been filed in the Supreme Court seeking neutral probe into the facts and circumstances in the killing and alleged links of police officers, bureaucrats and politicians with the Kanpur Don. On assuming the post of chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath declared his intention of making the state crime-free. The point is whether it meant getting rid of criminals instead of crimes. There has been much said and written about how ‘encounter politics’ is shaping the affairs in the BJP-ruled state ever since Yogi Adityanath took charge in March 2017 as the chief minister. In December 2019, the UP Police had tweeted that 5,178 encounters happened from March 2017 to December 2019 in which 103 criminals were killed and 1,859 got injured. There are too many unanswered questions against the UP police version of the ‘encounter’ and they were anything but convincing. Media following the Don and the escort were stopped just ten kms short of the ‘encounter’ site. After the ‘encounter’ took place, police said the vehicle carrying the Don, skidded to avoid a herd of cows then turned on its side. Police said Dubey managed to flee after grabbing a gun. He was then shot dead while attempting to escape. Media persons did not see any skid marks where the vehicle was supposed to have skidded. Also if Dubey was shot while fleeing then how did the Post Mortem report reveal he had four chest wounds? Even top criminal lawyers of Lucknow found the story “too naïve” and “utterly weak” even for a fourth-rate Bollywood thriller. According to a former police officer, if the cops are given that much impunity, they can kill anybody and fabricate a story to justify the killings. Many have alleged that the ‘encounter killing’ was done in order to relieve politicians and senior brass who were in cahoots with the gangster so that their links with Dubey won’t be probed. Therein lies the travesty of justice in a state where custodial deaths are justified as ‘encounters’.
DailyDevotion The Spiritually Vigorous Saint
…that I may know Him… —Philippians 3:10 A saint is not to take the initiative toward self-realization, but toward knowing Jesus Christ. A spiritually vigorous saint never believes that his circumstances simply happen at random, nor does he ever think of his life as being divided into the secular and the sacred. He sees every situation in which he finds himself as the means of obtaining a greater knowledge of Jesus Christ, and he has an attitude of unrestrained abandon and total surrender about him. The Holy Spirit is determined that we will have the realization of Jesus Christ in every area of our lives, and He will bring us back to the same point over and over again until we do. Self-realization only leads to the glorification of good works, whereas a saint of God glorifies Jesus Christ through his good works. Whatever we may be doing— even eating, drinking, or washing disciples’ feet— we have to take the initiative of realizing and recognizing Jesus Christ in it. Every phase of our life has its counterpart in the life of Jesus. Our Lord realized His relationship to the Father even in the most menial task. “Jesus, knowing…that He had come from God and was going to God,…took a towel…and began to wash the disciples’ feet…” (John 13:3-5). The aim of a spiritually vigorous saint is “that I may know Him…” Do I know Him where I am today? If not, I am failing Him. I am not here for self-realization, but to know Jesus Christ. In Christian work our initiative and motivation are too often simply the result of realizing that there is work to be done and that we must do it. Yet that is never the attitude of a spiritually vigorous saint. His aim is to achieve the realization of Jesus Christ in every set of circumstances.

Post-mortem
It is time for a united fight and not blame game T he chor us for action against frontline workers seemed to be growing in recent weeks and it’s a dangerous trend as it already distracting the smooth functioning of our campaign against the pandemic in the most crucial time. I don’t think any frontline worker would have done anything to the returnees or any district with ulterior motive. Human error happened and its bound to happen when we are dealing with a totally new and sometimes chaotic situation. Of course, we should always learn from the shortcomings and take corrective measures. But If anybody thinks that our approach should have been perfect from the beginning when we are dealing with Covid 19 then you are asking for the impossible as nobody has done that so far including the World Health

weather. When cases surged, he threatened India to supply hydroxy chloroquine and he called it a wonder drug giving false hope to the people. None of this worked and now USA has more than thirty lakh positive cases and more than 1 lakh and thirty thousand deaths. Boris Johnson, the Prime minister of United Kingdom initially wanted to let the disease run its own course to achieve herd immunity among the population but it misfired and he himself ended up getting infected. There are more than fortyfive thousand deaths in UK now. Likewise, situation was also mishandled at some stage in Italy, France, Spain, Russia and Brazil. However, till today we have not seen any leader tendering apology or resigning or being punished. But its ironical that some people in this part
of the world, are hell bent on punishing frontline workers for their shortcoming as if they are hunting for a trophy. These people seem to be totally oblivious of how our frontline workers are giving their service under the most challenging situation with poor infrastructures, equipment and shortage of manpower etc. Unintentional human error is inevitable sometimes when the situation is overwhelming. We are talking about SOPs not being followed, but SOPs of GOI, ICMR and state governments have been frequently changed on the basis of evolving situation and so it has never been static. However, we should be thankful to God as till now nobody has died in the state in spite of having hundreds of cases. But we cannot remain complacent because there is no guaran-

or a B.A 6th semester student like me, the pandemic did no favor. The deadly COVID-19 pandemic made a very deep impact in my studies and in my future career as a final year student. On one hand, the country is on lockdown for the safety of everyone. On the other hand, the average students like me are lost with uncertainty of where to go and what to do when the educational institution are being closed abruptly. We, as students have been shaken by the sudden and drastic impact both physically and psychologically. So many questions started to emerge in my mind. The first thing that struck my head in this lockdown was the question of who am I? Why I’m here? What are the purpose of my life in this vast cosmic arena with more than a billion of galaxies in the observable universe and a planet with more than the grain of sand from all over the beaches on earth? To find the purpose and understanding of my life I trace back to the place called Nagaland, my homeland. When I pause and look at the present scenario of our society, it is completely broken down and yearning for help. The so called bureaucrats andeducated people are lost in corruption, the talented people are lost in the thin air with the lack of suitable platform, the students, Children and Youth are drowning in social media and online game. The question now arises with, who is responsible for framing the progressive society. I lost myself in a thought for a while

The WHO discouraged people from wearing mask except the health workers and its officials also said on records that corona virus could survive only for few minutes outside the body. All along it has been advocating that Covid 19 is not airborne but now it is at the verge of accepting that it could happen in some settings. So even WHO got it wrong on many instances and it is also still learning. The only super power and the most advanced country, USA has suffered the most because the situation was badly handled. and find myself as a right person to fight for corruption and in building the future of our society by mobilizing and driving the educated youth to achieve our goal of desire and so do you. The knowledge that we are imparted from the educational institution are not only meant for paving the way of earning and jobs, but also to train our competency in tackling the problems like this corrupted and imbalance society. Thousands of our youth are crying over social media with the banning of Mobile Legend Bang Bang (MLBB) but many do not know their stand or where they are proceeding. The years of education with dozens of degree certificates does not prove our intelligence without applying that knowledge to our society and bring about positive impact. I wanted to urge and appeal to my educated Naga brothers and sisters to think positively and be more rational in order to mold our society as we yearn for a better change. 100 years ago our great forefathers went to France and came back with a new vision of advanced countries but now having the best educational institution with a modern view of concept and brought up from civilized technological world, we don’t need to move out from our homeland to make a reformation. The era of shouting and protesting bears no fruit, now it is the time for you and me to move out from our comfort zone and play our part as responsible citizens. With the feelings and mindset of tribalism, nepotism and a few thousands rupees in our pocket during the election
will ultimately lead to the downfall of our future. Wake up dear friends; let us know our purpose as a part of society and have a deeper understanding of the problems facing by the general public. Let us challenge and appeal to each others to build our betterfuture society. A political awakening is needed to make a reformation in society to let the young generation experience something new. From the time I understand the Naga society, there has been conflicts and corruption that I am familiar with. The only thing that I’m unfamiliar was Novel Corona Virus pandemic so called COVID-19. Lift up your heads and look out of your windows and see our society. Isn’t this the right time to act? Rather than pointing fingers at others. Let’s contribute one thing, one positive step each to make a better society. Let us not add up to the negativity to our society but add and contribute one positive thing wherever we are. This is the time to encourage each other, the young and dynamic leader with the new vision who can lead us to a promise land and this dream will achieve only when we come as one by eliminating the feelings and mindset of “ism” and work in cooperation and in unity, together as a team let us march to the promise land. We never know which/what kind of person will be remembered in the next 200 years but let the history judge. Let us make a good history to be remembered well. A reminder to our people
t is a known fact that the sovereign birthright of our nation is undisputable. The Nagas are not Indians and Nagaland does not belong to India. Thus, it is the bounden responsibility of our people to unitedly safeguard our birthright as a nation. Today our youngsters are by the grace of God rapidly advancing in all fronts and increasing knowledge at all. Therefore we are proud of them and we strongly hope that our young people will gallantly face the challenges ahead and defend our right as a nation by following the footprints and written guideline of A.Z. Phizo, father of the Naga nation in 1984. The guideline “OUR OBJECTIVE” reads: Our international objective is to be A Man among men and to be a Nation among nations. Our objective in life is to live in harmony with our fellow men and be of service to others at all times. What is our AIM for our people? Every Naga is free and equal from birth; whether man or woman, boy or girl we want to see that every individual Naga understands his or her right as a Naga. And we want every one of our people to FEEL the wonderful birthright which we have inherited to live in a society of Pure Democracy evolved by our Forefathers. We want to preserve our HERITAGE forever to come. Apart from Pure Democracy
as a way of life the Nagas have another great Heritage, and that is, Land belongs to the people as private and personal property, individually as well as collectively; As such, every Naga is a sovereign in his and her own right. This is a very rare heritage indeed. And this is our BIRTHRIGHT. And we must nurture it and jealousy uphold it forever to come so that no wicked upstart will ever attempt to usurp our individual sovereignty which is our birthright. The land on which you stand belongs to nobody else but it is absolutely and entirely yours as a gift from our Forefathers. Nobody else has any right to claim over to and it is entirely up to you to preserve it on to your descendants, generation after generations. And please know that nothing is more permanent in this world than the land that belongs to you as your own. Your birthright as a sovereign person,Your possession of land as your own personal property, And, the way of life in Nagaland which is rooted in the system of pure democracy, these THREE institutions are the highest Human achievements Mankind has been yearning for and this is what we have inherited from our Forefathers. tee that the situation will not get worse. The cases may surge, many may die and health system could be overwhelmed. Some districts could become worst affected and the need to bring health workers from other district may arise. But in that situation, you cannot continue to hunt down the frontline workers and also push them to work. If this trend is not put to a stop once for all, the frontline workers specially the health workers will no longer be motivated or willing to risk their lives in rendering their services to the people when the situation becomes worse. Encouragement and appreciation are essential elements to lift up the morale of any work force during crises but threat and intimidation will do the opposite. I feel that the leaders of any organisations should channelize their
energy in strengthening governments efforts in making their community safer by making facility and home quarantine more effective, taking local measures to protect the elderly and people with comorbidities and also try to imbibe discipline and civic sense among their people to reduce transmission. They also should have the magnanimity to accept that whatever shortcomings has happened or likely to happen is not intentional even though they have every right to ask the authority to take corrective measures. We cannot bring back whatever is gone but we can strengthen our future efforts from what we learnt and that should be the guiding principle for all if we are to contain Covid 19 in our state. Frauds in the name of Customs Department
s a Customs Officer, I frequently get phone calls from people asking for help or to help someone who is in the process of receiving certain items from abroad- foreign currency, gold, jewellery or expensive electronic items- from some friend, someone they know, etc. My first question to them usually is who the person from abroad is. If the answer is “A friend I met online on Facebook”, I immediately know that it’s a fraud. My immediate concern next is whether any money has already been transferred to the fraudsters, because once sent, it usually is very difficult to get back any of the money. Another way in which people often fall prey to such fraudsters is by responding to phone calls from people claiming to be Customs Officers asking for money to be deposited in bank accounts. This is a large fraud going on in the name of the Customs Department. Two Modus operandi have been noticed: 1. People you may have befriended through Facebook will say they are stuck in Customs with gold/ jewellery/ foreign currency and will make you
speak with a “Customs Officer” who will then direct you to deposit money in some Private bank account to get your “friend” released. 2. People will call you saying your parcel has arrived in Customs and will ask you to make payments in some private bank accounts to get the parcel released. One must be aware that the Customs Department will never ask you to deposit money in any personal bank account. It is always in government accounts which credit the money to the Government of India. It’s worth keeping in mind that nothing comes for free. The fundamental issue here is one of gullibility- that a person believes that an anonymous person/ a complete stranger whom they have befriended on a social networking site actually wants to send them huge amounts of foreign currency/ gold/ jewellery for free. The price of such gullibility is costly. A fool and his money are soon parted. So beware! Sashi Wapang, Duncan Basti, Dimapur (The author is an IRS (Customs and GST) officer. The ‘Burning’ Letter (Bravo, Governor!)
T
he recent no-nonsense letter of the Gover nor to the Chief Minister calling a spade a spade has generated quite a debate evoking mixed reactions along expected lines. Most Nagas sense in this a glimmer of hope that the thoroughly vitiated and audaciously corrupt system that prevails in this erroneouslycoined ‘Christian State’ with the exploitated slogan ‘Nagaland for Christ’ may perhaps be treated with a potent anti-dote and restore our land as the liveable habitad that once was our fair Nagaland before the random and unabashed abuses under and over. The common people, ordinary Nagas, are totally exasper-
ated and itching to speak their mind but most remain boiling in silence because of fear (exception being a bare handful of devil-maycare fire-fighters), many, snuggled in comfort zones, remain apathetic, some are deafeningly silent obviously because they believe that theirs will be voices in the wild wilderness and a few, either indoctrinated or driven by the knowledge of which side of their bread is buttered, are saying what they are saying. As for me, I count myself among the overwhelming majority of Nagas, irrespective of calling or station, agreeing with the content of the Governor’s letter in to do and thanking him for his obvious commitment to
help make a difference by taking the bull by the horn and stepping on the toe of the powers-that-be when the need arises. Bravo, Governor and Godspeed. Rest assured that all decent and conscientious Nagas are with you all the way. And by the way, ignore the rubbish of cheeky denials, untenable justifications and self-acquittals (as if all Nagas are morons) and the subjective and judgemental discussions by those who imply through their fluent writings that the Nagas do not deserve a rosier life and that we will be better off letting the present dispensation thrive. Reader’s Post
From the present state of affairs
Sir,
Nagaland, the eldest among the seven of eight sisters (Assam the oldest) of NE is said to be lacking in all development networks and infrastructures behind her younger siblings because of political uprisings insurgency, law and order situation, extortions and what not. If so, how come under such grim conditions magnificent private business buildings, mansions and farm houses adorned with beautiful farms and gardens, luxurious cars, swimming pools, private resorts and recreation centres mushroomed so amazingly. Are they reward miracles rained down from heaven for those who work so rigorously, heavily laden with the burden of responsibilities, trying to usher in a peaceful and serene welfare state for the people of Nagaland? Is it not the high time for Nagas to wake up from our deep stupid slumber of the civic sense of our rights and responsibilities, and build up a strong healthy growth of mindset and standing firm strife hard to deliver a peaceful welfare state for the people of Nagaland from the present state of affairs. S. Limatemjen, Former MLA

Nagaland Post, Dimapur SUNDAY, JULY 12, 2020
BJP trying to topple my govt: Gehlot Jaipur, Jul 11 (PTI): Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday accused the opposition BJP of trying to topple his government by offering his legislators large sums of money and said his administration is not just stable but will complete its five-year term. Gehlot alleged at a press conference that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were unable to “tolerate” him or his government and were therefore planning a conspiracy. Rejecting Gehlot’s allegations, BJP’ state president Satish Poonia said the political situation in the state was the result of infighting in the Congress and the chief minister was just trying to shift the blame. “BJP leaders are playing the game at the behest of Central leaders. MLAs were offered money... Rs 10 crore in advance and Rs 15 crore after the government is toppled,” the chief minister claimed, a charge denied by the BJP. He added that BJP leaders were murdering democracy and wanted to do politics like in a goat market, “bakra-mandi”, where goats

and bought and sold. Stepping up the attack against the BJP, the chief minister also named Leader of Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria, Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore and BJP state president Poonia and claimed they were carrying out the agenda of the party’s central leadership. “The chief minister did not talk logically in his press conference. It is their own infighting but he wants to blame BJP. He is a veteran leader of Congress and his pain is justified because in the Congress has shrunk in the country,” Poonia said in response. “He talked about a
‘bakra-mandi’. How can he talk like this…. If he so confident, why did he have to confine MLAs to a resort for several days ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections?” he added. However, Gehlot exuded confidence that his government will ride any crisis and said his government had begun preparations for winning the next assembly elections. “The government in Rajasthan is stable, will remain stable and will last five years,” the senior Congress leader said. “The government is delivering governance, presenting budgets in that direction,” he said.
G e h l o t wa s a s k e d whether the alleged efforts to weaken his party were happening because of two groups in the Congress – one led by him and the other by his deputy Sachin Pilot. “There may be five-seven leaders here who could be the claimant for chief minister’s post. They may also have capabilities but when a chief minister is appointed, such talks get over and peace prevails,” he said in response. According to the chief minister, attempts were made to poach MLAs ahead of last month’s Rajya Sabha elections as well but this time the effort seemed to be bigger and more organised. During the early days of the COVID-19 crisis, he said he had invited opposition party leaders and others and taken them into confidence before taking decisions. But BJP leaders had gone “beyond humanity” and got involved in destablising his government, which he said was shameful. “Our focus should have been completely on combating the corona crisis which we have been doing but now we have to struggle to save the government,”
he said. Citing the examples of Goa, Manipur, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, the chief minister said the BJP is trying to play similar games in Rajasthan too. He said it was unfortunate that horse trading is done in Gujarat, the land of Mahatma Gandhi, and claimed that Rajasthan has no such history. Congress leaders have “integrity”, he asserted. “If any of our MLAs, who won elections on Congress ticket and were given various posts including ministerial portfolios by the party, turns out to be a traitor, the public will not forgive him,” he said. The chief minister said the Special Operations Group of Rajasthan police has issued him notice for recording statements. “No one, be it a chief minister or prime minister, is above the law. I have received the notice of SOG. The investigating agency will do its job and we will cooperate in it,” he said. The chief minister said the investigation will reveal everything and truth will prevail.

BJP rejects Gehlot’s charge of horse-trading in Rajasthan Jaipur, Jul 11 (PTI): The BJP on Saturday rejected Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s charge that it was trying to topple his government, and claimed there was infighting in the ruling Congress. The party also hit out at the chief minister over the case registered by police’s special operations group (SOG) against two persons in connection with alleged horse trading of MLAs ahead of Rajya Sabha polls, saying he should utilise agencies like SOG and ACB for crime control “instead of threatening” MLAs and political parties. “The chief minister did not talk logically in his press conference. It is their own infighting but he wants to blame BJP. He is a veteran leader of the Congress and his pain is justified because the Congress has shrunk in the country,” BJP’s state president Satish Poonia told reporters. He was reacting after Gehlot alleged that Poonia, Leader of Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria and Rajendra Rathore were involved in efforts to topple

his government on the direction of the BJP’s central leadership. Kataria, who is in Udaipur, challenged the chief minister to prove the allegations. “He talked about ‘bakra-mandi’. How can he say like this, he should respond,” Poonia said. Gehlot had alleged that the BJP leaders were murdering democracy by trying to “buy” MLAs and turning the state’s politics into a goat market, “bakramandi”. The chief minister had said he was confident
that his government will last its full term. Poonia took a swipe at Gehlot, saying why had the Congress kept its MLAs at a resort before the Rajya Sabha polls. “If he was so confident, why he had to confine the MLAs to a resort for several days ahead of Rajya Sabha elections?” he said. “The chief minister should utilise the agencies like SOG and ACB for crime control instead of threatening the MLAs and political parties,” he said.

Rahul, Priyanka can take on ModiShah: Digvijaya
BJP MP gives 5-point advice to Uddhav; warns against lockdown
New Delhi, Jul 11 (IANS): Veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Saturday asserted that the party leadership must take up the challenge of building the party organisation under the “dynamic” leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. He said both have the guts and courage to take on the invincible duo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “The Congress leadership must take up the challenge of building the party organisation brick by brick. This is where we need the dynamism of Rahul ji and Priyanka ji. I am sure both of them have the guts and courage to take on ModiShah twins,” Singh said in a series of tweets. Hailing the aggressive stand taken by Rahul and Priyanka over a range of issues to corner the BJP-led government, Singh said that the former Congress chief had virtually emerged as the main challenger to Modi in 2019.
the shop, strict adherence to the rules of personal distancing, masks and hand wash” should be ensured. Telling Thackeray that open air plays a crucial role in preventing the deadly Covid-19 pandemic, the senior BJP leader advised: “Public gardens, temples, and open gyms should be allowed to operate with strict adherence to social distancing and wearing of masks.” The BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP wrote this letter citing media reports that said the state government wants to reimpose lockdown in several municipal corporations in Maharashtra. He claimed, there is a larger confusion among public regarding the same and his letter is to convey the “anguish” of people from taking any “ugly shape”. The media reports Sahasrabuddhe referred to spoke about Maharashtra government’s decision to implement fresh lockdown in Thane, Pune and PimpriChinchwad, and Nanded areas starting from Monday.
Rahul Gandhi (File)
New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday wondered why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not sharing details of those who have donated money to the PM Cares Fund and asked if he was “scared” of doing so. He claimed everyone knows that Chinese companies like Huawei, Xiaomi, TikTok and OnePlus have donated to the PM Cares Fund, set up to fight COVID-19. “Why is the PM so scared of disclosing the names of those who donated money to him for PMCares? Everyone knows Chinese companies Huawei, Xiaomi, TikTok
and OnePlus gave money. Why doesn’t he share the details,” he asked on Twitter. The former Congress chief tagged a media report that claimed BJP MPs blocked a Parliament panel’s move to review the PM Cares Fund. Gandhi and the Congress party have been demanding that the PM Cares Fund be audited for the money received by it from the public. He had raised the issue in the meeting of party MPs with Congress president Sonia Gandhi earlier during the day, saying since the fund received money from the public, it should come under audit and review.
The formal process of disengagement of troops began on Monday morning after a nearly two-hour telephonic conversation between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday. The Chinese military has already completed moving back its troops from the face-off sites in Galwan Valley, Gogra and Hot Springs in line with the first phase of the disengagement process from the friction points on the LAC in eastern Ladakh, sources said. The main focus now shifts to Pangong Tso. India has been insisting that China

New Delhi, Jul 11 (IANS): BJP Vice President Vinay Sahasrabuddhe has given Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray five suggestions to allay concerns and apprehensions of people amid, what the BJP leader calls, the state government’s “reimposing of lockdown”. He argued for opening up instead of levying curbs and even warned of people’s “anguish”. As part of his 5-point suggestion, he advised that personal distancing needs to be ensured along with provisions of stringent fines for not wearing masks in public places. He also advised that the government should ex-
plore possibility of “further stringent punshments” for repeat offenders. He also suggested that the government make it mandatory to carry hand sanitisers while moving out of home and people should be steeply fined if found violating the rule. Sahasrabuddhe advocated framing strict rules for even while driving or using public or private vehicles. But, asserting his stand for opening up rather than closing down businesses, he wrote: “All kinds of shops should be allowed to operate as per routine in order to avoid crowding in limited hours. On Friday, India and China held another round of diplomatic talks during which both sides resolved to push ahead with “complete disengagement” of troops in eastern Ladakh in a timely manner for “full restoration” of peace and tranquility. At the meeting, it was decided that senior com-
manders of the two armies will meet “soon” to discuss further steps to “ensure complete disengagement and de-escalation”. After the online diplomatic meeting under the framework of Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on India-China Border Affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) said the two sides agreed that maintenance of “enduring peace” in the border areas was essential for overall development of bilateral ties. The MEA said the two sides reaffirmed to ensure complete disengagement of the troops along the LAC for

election after re-joining the NDA following a four-year split. Though the BJP has been working to keep its alliance partners on board, its top leaders have repeatedly put their faith in Kumar’s leadership and named him as the NDA’s chief ministerial candidate. This, political sources believe, limits the BJP’s ability to placate the LJP. The Paswans have been so far all praise for the BJP, and the Union minister had on Friday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “pro-poor” policies. All that the LJP wants is an “honourable deal” from its NDA allies in the Bihar polls, a party leader said. A senior BJP leader, however, played down the LJP’s aggressive stand, describing it as a “usual posturing” parties in an alliance to maximize their share of seats. He noted that seat-sharing talks among the NDA partners in 2015, when it included parties of Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha besides the LJP, also involved a lot of muscle-flexing by the BJP’s allies.
New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI): Increasingly bitter relations between the JD(U) and the LJP in the ruling National Democratic Alliance and differences in the opposition camp have thrown up possibilities of a political realignment in Bihar ahead of the assembly polls in the state. It remains uncertain if the state’s fractured politics will see new alliances, but all is far from well in the two rival camps, prompting some parties to explore their options, sources have said. The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) is peeved with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) as it believes that its due strength in the state is not being acknowledged by the ally in seat-sharing talks among the NDA partners. While the equation between the BJP and the LJP remains fine, Kumar’s party is angry over Chirag Paswan’s repeated snipes at the chief minister and hints that the saffron party should look beyond him in the state. “The LJP is overestimating its strength in Bihar, and Chirag Paswan has become more and more am-
“full restoration” of peace and tranquility in the border areas in accordance with bilateral agreements and protocols. Both sides have held several rounds of diplomatic and military talks in the last few weeks to ease tension in the region. However, there was no visible sign of any end to the standoff till Sunday evening. On June 30, the Indian and Chinese armies held the third round of Lt Generallevel talks during which both sides agreed on an “expeditious, phased and step wise” de-escalation as a “priority” to end the standoff. The first round of the Lt General talks was held on June 6 during which both sides finalised an agreement to disengage gradually from all the standoff points beginning with Galwan Valley. However, the situation deteriorated following the Galwan Valley clashes as the two sides significantly bolstered their deployments in most areas along the LAC. Twenty Indian army personnel were killed in the clashes on June 15. The Chinese side also suffered casualties but it is yet to give out the details. According to an American intelligence report, the number of casualties on the Chinese side was 35.

bitious. It was never an ally of the JD(U). It has aligned with the BJP on and off, and the saffron party will deal with its demands, not us,” a senior JD(U) leader said. Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan’s party, now being led by his son Chirag, had fought on 42 of the state assembly’s 243 seats in 2015 and wants a share on similar lines in the upcoming polls, a position rejected by the JD(U). The JD(U) was in the rival camp of the RJD and the Congress in 2015. JD(U) sources have pointed out that the LJP won only two seats in 2015, and its best show was in 2005 when the party won 29 seats while fighting on its own in the Bihar polls. The hung verdict had led to another assembly election in a few months in which Kumar led the NDA to victory in the state for the first time, defeating Lalu Prasad’s RJD. The LJP’s tally was reduced to 10 seats. The LJP on its part has noted that even the JD(U) won only two Lok Sabha seats in 2014 but was given 17 of the total 40 seats to contest in 2019 general
New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI): Chinese military further thinned down its presence in the ridgeline of Finger Four and removed some boats from Pangong lake in eastern Ladakh ahead of another round of Lt Generallevel talks between India and China aimed at finalising modalities for complete disengagement along the Line of Actual Control(LAC), people familiar with the development said on Saturday. The escalation in tension in eastern Ladakh was triggered by a violent clash between the two armies in Pangong Tso on May 5 in which a sizeable number of personnel from both sides were injured. Following the incident, both sides were locked in an eyeballto-eyeball confrontation in three other locations in the region. At the military talks, the two sides are expected to specifically focus on completing withdrawal of troops from Pangong Tso and Depsang besides laying out a detailed roadmap for disengagement of large numbers of troops from the rear bases by the two sides in a timebound manner. Both sides had significantly ramped up troops and weaponry including tanks and artillery guns in eastern Ladakh.

The NPCC president said most of the industries depending on power supply incurred losses due to erratic power supply. He also said life saving machines in hospitals were also adversely affected while many industrial machineries have been damaged due to fluctuations and erratic power supply. Due to such, he said small or medium industries cannot come up for want of dependable power supply. Therie maintained that power department was not a secondary department and urged the state government to concentrate on providing uninterrupted power supply as there was no more load shedding due to lack of adequate power generation.

Mumbai, Jul 11 (IANS): The Indian rupee has been caught in a flux of higher FDI inflows and swelling foreign exchange reserves, thereby restricting its future movement around the Rs 75 per US dollar mark. Analysts opined that the rupee is caught between higher foreign inflows and the Reserve Bank of India’s efforts to shore up reserves. Even a lower import bill and stable exports do

Policymakers fear that as the government has exhausted its options of opening up even more sectors by easing foreign direct investment flows, capital goods production might take time to recover. Consumer durables was a major casualty of the lockdown in user-based industries, recording a 68.5 per cent fall in production after April’s near absolute 98 per cent drop. Data from the beginning of the year showed that production of consumer durables was falling even before the Covid-19 crisis, with March being the tenth month of contraction. Consumer non-durables, which include many essential items, saw the narrowest contraction of 11.7 per cent after a near 50-per cent fall in April.

The conventional and unconventional monetary policy and liquidity measures by RBI have been aimed at restoring market confidence, alleviating liquidity stress, easing financial conditions, unfreezing credit markets and augmenting the flow of financial resources to those in need for productive purposes, he said. “The broader objective was to mitigate risks to the growth outlook while preserving financial stability,” he added. Das said despite the substantial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the country’s financial system, including all the payment systems and financial markets, are functioning without any hindrance. “RBI is making continuous assessment of the changing trajectory of financial stability risks and upgrading its own supervisory framework to ensure that financial stability is preserved,” he said. However, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had begun shrinking even before, falling by 18.3 per cent in March, which saw only seven days of shutdown. With the lockdown in force for most of April and May, the government on Friday again released only index numbers for industrial production, and the numbers cited above are derived from those. The government clarified that after reporting zero production in April, subsequent periods of conditional relaxations led to a graded pick-up in industrial activity. Mumbai, Jul 11 (PTI): The Indian economy has started showing signs of returning to normalcy in response to the staggered easing of lockdown restrictions, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Saturday. He further said the need of the hour is to restore confidence, preserve financial stability, revive growth and recover stronger. “The Indian economy has started showing signs of getting back to normalcy in response to the staggered easing of restrictions,” Das said at the 7th SBI Banking and Economics Conclave. Indian companies and industries respond better in a crisis, he noted. Das, however, said it is still uncertain when supply chains will be restored fully, how long it will take for demand conditions to normalise, and what kind of durable effects the pandemic will leave behind on potential growth. According to him, targeted and comprehensive reform measures already announced by the government should help in supporting growth. New Delhi, Jul 11 (IANS): Auto fuel prices have again gone for a longer pause with oil marketing companies keeping the pump prices of petrol and diesel unchanged for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday. In the National Capital, petrol is still priced at Rs 80.43 a litre while diesel prices remain a tad higher at Rs 80.78 a litre. After keeping priced unchanged for previous seven days the oil companies had increased the price of diesel by 25 paise a litre in Delhi on Tuesday (July 7) while keeping petrol prices unchanged. Since then, pump prices of the two petroleum products have remained static in line with global movement of crude prices remaining stable at $42 a barrel. But with crude rising to over $43 a barrel on Saturday, there could be some hike in pump prices next week. Before Tuesday, auto fuel prices remained unchanged for the seven consecutive days. Prices of the transportation fuel have had a pause after rising to record levels in 23 days of the past month after the oil marketing companies (OMC) resumed the daily price revision system from June 7 that kept the petrol and diesel prices rising incessantly till June 29.

experts to discuss sciencebased origin tracing. “It is our contribution to global public health cooperation as a responsible major country,” Zhao said. By contrast, the United States has been shirking its own responsibilities and undermining global solidarity in combating the virus by declaring to exit the WHO, politicizing matters related to the pandemic and smearing others. Since it already de-
clared withdrawal from the WHO, the United States is in no position to make unwarranted comments on China’s cooperation with the WHO, Zhao said. “If the United States truly cares about global efforts against the pandemic, the first thing it needs to do is to fulfill its due international responsibilities and obligations and cooperate with the WHO in ways like inviting WHO experts to trace the source of the virus in the United States.”
US records highest daily COVID cases Washington, Jul 11 (IANS): The US has registered a new single-day spike in the number of COVID-19 cases with a total of 63,643 infections, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Besides the record high cases, Friday also saw 774 coronavirus deaths, the BBC reported citing the data as saying. As of Saturday, the US currently accounted for the world’s highest number of infections and fatalities at 3,182,385 and 134,073, respectively.
Twenty-nine states have seen an increase in new cases compared to last week, according to a CNN report. Nine have had record single-day infections: Alaska, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Ohio, Utah and Wisconsi. Meanwhile, Texas and Florida are among the worst hit states in the country. Florida recorded 11,433 new cases on Friday. In Miami-Dade county, 28 per cent of people who took tests were confirmed to have the virus, said the BBC report.
HK virologist accuses China of covering up Covid threat New Delhi, Jul 11 (Agencies): A Hong Kong-based virologist has claimed that China knew about the deadly novel coronavirus well before it claimed it did. In an interview to USbased Fox News published Friday, Dr Li-Meng Yan, who has specialised in virology and immunology at Hong Kong School of Public Health, claimed Chinese authorities knew about the deadly virus in December last year, but hushed it up. Dr Yan even claimed that her own institute, which is affiliated with the World Health Organization (WHO), had asked her to stay silent about it. In the interview, Yan said had China been transparent about the full dangers of the virus early on, then it would have helped the international community to understand and cope with the virus in a much better way. Yan, who fled to the US in April, alleged if she had spoken up about
the virus in China, she would have been killed and, hence, fled to the US, “to tell the truth of the origins of Covid-19 to the world”. Dr Yan, who was working at the WHO-affiliated laboratory on infectious diseases of Hong Kong School of Public Health, was asked by her supervisor, Dr Leo Poon, to investigate the cluster of SARS-like cases in Wuhan, China, in December. She said she had to rely on her friends from the medical community for information as no expert from outside the mainland was allowed to visit the area. She said one of her friends from the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in China told her that the virus started spreading from human to human on 31 December, which was only confirmed by the WHO in January. Yan alleged he told her “to keep silent, and be careful” or all of them will be in trouble.
Geneva, Jul 11 (IANS): The World Health Organization (WHO) said the novel coronavirus was yet to be brought under control “in most of the world”, while warning that it was actually “getting worse”. Speaking at a briefing on Friday, WHO DirectorGeneral Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said: “The virus has upended health systems in some of the world’s wealthiest nations, while some countries that have mounted a successful response have been of modest means. “In most of the world the virus is not under control. It is getting worse.” The WHO chief added that the pandemic was “still accelerating”, as the total number of COVID-19 cases worldwide has “doubled in the last six week”, the Metro newspaper reported. As of Saturday, the total number of global coronavirus cases stood at 12,507,849, while the fatalities rose to 560,460, according to the Johns Hopkins University. The US currently accounted for the world’s highest number of infections and fatalities at 3,182,385 and 134,073, respectively, while Brazil came in the second place with 1,800,827 cases and 70,398 deaths.

Moscow, Jul 11 (AP): Kazakhstan health officials on Friday dismissed a Chinese report that the Central Asian country is facing an outbreak of pneumonia that is more deadly than coronavirus. The Kazakh denial follows a notice issued Thursday by the Chinese embassy that warned its citizens about an outbreak of pneumonia in the ex-Soviet nation that is producing a death rate higher than that from COVID-19-induced pneumonia. “This information doesn’t conform to reality,” Kazakhstan’s Health Ministry said. It noted that the country’s statistics on pneumonia include patients who tested negative for coronavirus but had symptoms compatible with COVID-19. According to official data, the number of pneumonia cases in Kazakhstan has increased 55 per cent in the first half of the year compared with the same period in 2019 — from 63,436 to 98,546. Seoul, Jul 11 (IANS): South Korea and the United States appear increasingly likely to scale back or even call off a major combined exercise due to the COVID-19 pandemic, after indefinitely postponing their annual springtime drill earlier this year, sources said on Saturday. “Both sides share the need to stage the summertime exercise as planned, and we’ve continued consultations on the matter. But things are highly flexible due to the COVID-19
situation,” Yonhap News Agency quoted a Defence Ministry official as saying. Seoul and Washington usually carry out major combined exercises twice a year -- in around March and August. But they postponed this year’s springtime exercise due to COVID-19, and it has not been held to date, as the health crisis continues. “It already seems practically impossible to push for the summertime exercise normally, given

Beijing, Jul11 (IANS): A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said since the United States has already declared withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO), it is in no position to make unwarranted comments on China’s cooperation with the WHO. We are looking at ways of making sure that people really do have face coverings in shops, for instance, where there is a risk of transmission,” he said, triggering speculation that the UK government was in the process of announcing

He pointed to plans to invest hundreds of billions of pounds in infrastructure projects to boost productivity, as well as the schemes designed to protect jobs, announced earlier this week by UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak. “We are going to continue in a balanced way safely and cautiously to reopen our economy and get things moving as fast as we can. What we want to do is create an environment in which our businesses and our enterprises, feel confident to invest in the UK for the long term,” he said. Indicating that localised lockdowns may have to be used, he also warned that a full national lockdown could return if the next stage of the pandemic, which has claimed over 44,000 lives in the UK, is not carefully managed. “Obviously you have to keep in reserve the ultimate tool, the national lockdown. But nobody wants to do that ever again,” he said.

Boris tells Brits to live more normal life
LONDON, Jul 11 (PTI): UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called on the British public to try and start leading more normal lives as the country starts to gradually emerge from the coronavirus lockdown. Addressing People’s Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) on social media, the UK prime minister urged people to start going back to work if they can and feel confident to return to shops and restaurants as they begin opening up by following the social distancing guidance. “The best thing is to cautiously go back to work. My message now would be that if you can go back to work, then, provided your company’s obeying the guidelines, provided its safe, then you should go back,” he said. “People should try to lead their lives more normally… I want to see more people feeling confident to use the shops, use the restaurants, get back into work. But only if we all follow the guidance,” he told People’s PMQs on Facebook on Friday.

Abhay Deol on nepotism in our culture A A ctor Abhay Deol says he went the extra mile in his career to make his own path and called his uncle, veteran star Dhamendra, whom he fondly calls his "dad", his inspiration. Abhay took to Instagram, where he spoke about nepotism prevalent everywhere. He also shared a picture of himself along with Dharmendra. "My uncle, whom I affectionately call dad, was an outsider who made it big in the film industry. I'm glad there is an active debate on the practices behind the scenes. Nepotism is just the tip of the iceberg. I've only ever made one film with my family, my 1st, and I'm grateful to be blessed and have that privileged," Abhay wrote alongside the image. "I've gone that extra mile in my career to make my own path, something that dad always encouraged. For me he was the inspiration." Abhay added that nepotism exists everywhere. "Nepotism is prevalent everywhere in our culture, be it in politics, business, or film. I was well aware of it and it pushed me to take
chances with new directors and producers throughout my career. That is how I was able to make movies that were considered "out of the box". "I'm glad some of those artists and films went on to have tremendous success." Abhay said nepotism has taken a different side in the country. "While it plays a part in every country, nepotism has taken on another
Katy Perry says Kanye presidency could be ‘a little wild’
K
aty Per r y has weighed in on Kanye West running for U.S. President, admitting that while she 'loves him as an artist', the role of POTUS is one 'best suited for someone with experience'. The rapper announced earlier this month that he was going to vie for the presidency later this year, with his decision dividing opinion among his peers. Perry was asked what she thought of his career move during an interview on Hits Radio Breakfast on Friday and hinted that while she respects the Stronger star's musical
prowess, she'd rather he leave the politics to someone else. “Well I think, you know, what we've learned, looking back, is that the Presidential job is best suited for someone with experience," she said. Adding that a great leader should be a 'pro in their field', Perry alluded to the current president, Donald Trump: "I think we have seen and learned from experience, that when we don't have pros in position, that it can get a little wild!" The singer continued: "I love Kanye! He is amazing! I just, you know, I love him as an artist! And I think he's an incredible disruptor as an artist, and a conversation, you know, maker, as an artist. And that's what I love the most about him." dimension here in India. I suspect caste plays a major role in it being more pronounced here than in other parts of the world. After all, it is "jati" that dictates that a son carry on the work of his father, while the daughter is expected to marry and be a housewife," he said. The "Dev. D" star says a cultural evolution is needed to bring about change. "If we are serious
about making changes for the better, then focusing on only one aspect, one industry, while ignoring the many others, will be incomplete and possibly counterproductive. We need a cultural evolution. After all, where do our filmmakers, politicians and businessmen come from? They are people just like everyone," he said. "They grow up within the same system as everybody else. They are a reflection of their culture. Talent everywhere deserves a chance to shine in his or her medium. As we have learnt over the past few weeks, there are several ways in which an artist is either uplifted to success, or beaten down to failure." Abhay feels glad that more actors are coming out today and "speaking of their experiences". "I've been vocal about mine for years now, but as a lone voice I could only do so much. It's easy to smear one artist for speaking out, and I have been at the receiving end from time to time. But as a group, a collective, that becomes difficult. Maybe now is our watershed moment," he said. (IANS)

Ricky Gervais: Cancel culture and ‘outrage mobs’ would make ‘The Office’ impossible to make today
B
ritish comedian and actor Ricky Gervais says it is unlikely his hit show The Office would be made today because of “outrage mobs” who take things out of context. Ger vais’s BAFTAwinning mockumentary series debuted 19 years ago this week, with Gervais starring as the hapless and cringeworthy manager of a paper company Wernham Hogg. Reflecting on the show in an interview with Times Radio on Friday, Gervais said some sections of the audience would take things too “literally” if the show were released now, despite the fact the show was “clearly ironic.” “ N ow [ t h e s h ow ] would suffer because people would take things literally. There are these outrage mobs who take things out of context,” Ricky Gervais said. “This was a show about everything — it was about difference, it was about sex, race, all the things that people fear to even be discussed or talked about now, in case they say the wrong thing and they are cancelled.” The 59-year-old added that the BBC, funded by
the British taxpayer has become “more and more careful” about ensuring political correctness in their comedy. “People want to keep their jobs, so would worry about some of the subjects and jokes, even though they were clearly ironic and we were laughing at this buffoon being uncomfortable around difference,” Gervais said. “I think if this was put out now, some people have lost their sense of irony and context.” Gervais added that there is “no nuance or discussion” about comedy nowadays, and has instead just become “two tribes of people screaming.” “I genuinely think I don’t do anything that
deserves to be cancelled,” he said. “Some people now don’t care about the argument or the issue, they just want to own someone, they want to win the argument.” Despite describing himself as a “champagne socialist,” Gervais has long earned admiration in conservative and libertarian circles for his vociferous defense of free speech, and the right to offend. “I’m an old fashioned liberal lefty, champagne socialist type of guy,” he said last year. “A pro-equality, opportunity-for-all, welfare state snowflake. But, if I ever defend freedom of speech on here, I’m suddenly an alt-right nazi. How did that happen?” (Brietbart)
Jada Pinkett Smith Confirms during Will Smith Split Arjun Kapoor: Every one of us will

ada Pinkett Smith did not hold back during her first Red Table Talk episode following August Alsina’s claim that the pair had an affair, sitting down across from husband Will Smith. The couple revealed that around four and a half years ago, they met Alsina, 27, who was sick. Around that same time, the pair, who married in 1997 and now share two children, were also going through struggles in their marriage. “I was done with you,” Will, 51, said during the Friday episode. “We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time and you go figure out how to make yourself happy and ill try to figure out myself happy. I really felt like we could be over.” The Gotham alum, 48, then added, “We were over.” She then said she “got into a different kind of entanglement” with the “No Love” singer — and noted that Smith never gave his “blessing,” something that Alsina claimed during
his June 23 interview with Angela Yeen. “It was a relationship. I was in a lot of pain, I was very broken. In the process of that relationship, I definitely realized that you can’t find happiness outside of yourself. Luckily enough, you and I were also going through a process in a much different matter,” Jada continued. “I would definitely say we did everything that we could to get away from each other, only to realize that that wasn’t possible.” As for why she began the relationship, she told her husband, “I just wanted to feel good. It had been so long since I felt good. It was really a joy to help heal somebody.” However, when Will
and Jada began communicating again, Alsina ended the romance. In June, Alsina made headlines for alleging that he was introduced to Jada by her son, Jaden Smith, in 2015 and began an affair. “I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her,” he explained. “I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it — so much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.” A rep for the Girls Trip actress told the New York Post’s Page Six that Alsina’s allegation was “absolutely not true.” She then tweeted on July 2 that “there’s some healing that needs to happen.” In turn, she noted that she would be “bringing myself to the red table” because of this. Despite Jada’s denial of the affair, Alsina stood by his original declaration. The “Song Cry” crooner defended his claims in an extensive Instagram statement posted on Friday, July
3. He did not mention Jada or Will by name. “My truth is MY truth, & it’s mine to own,” he wrote at the time. “There is no right or wrong here, it simply just IS. & I make room and have acceptance for your thoughts and opinions, regardless if I agree or not, you have that freedom to feel WHATEVER it is u feel because when you’re at TRUE peace, all of the noise and chatter becomes that of a whisper.” Alsina added, “W/ that being said, I should also say that no one was sideswiped by any conversation, everyone got courtesy calls time in advance.” “We are family,” she explained in a 2018 interview with Sway’s Universe. “Take out all that whole marriage, relationship crap, at the end of the day, Will and I are family. I am going to hold him down, doesn’t matter. All that relationship and what people think ideas of a husband, partner and all that, man, whatever. At the end of the day, that is a man that can rely on me for the rest of his life, period.” (US Weekly)
have to adjust to new normal
A
ctor Arjun Kapoor, who has stepped out to shoot after almost four months, says everyone will have to adjust to the new normal. Arjun said: "I think every one of us will have to adjust to the new normal and slowly start resetting our lives. Things have changed forever but we will all have to work, we will all have to support our families. "So, everyone concerned will make their environment as safe as possible so that all are protected and we resume some sort of normalcy on our work front. I shot for the first time after 4 months." The "Panipat" actor said that adequate safety measures on the sets of his commercial shoot put him at complete ease. "I have to admit that I was a bit jittery at the start but seeing all the safety measures in place, I became absolutely fine in no time. Naturally, the
initial days of us stepping out to work again will be a little difficult for all of us psychologically. But today, I'm more confident of shooting and being around people on the sets because I have seen the extensive preparations that people are taking to ensure we have the highest safety measures on the sets," he said. Arjun has a number of shoots lined up in the days to come. "It felt very good to resume work and I'm looking forward to my next shooting days," he added. (IANS)
Netflix refuses to ‘proactively’ censor film on HK activist Armie Hammer and Elizabeth
K Y M C
“Proactive” censorship might have been ruled out, but censorship is still on the table if China demands it. The HKFP’s source said Netflix is willing to consider banning the Joshua Wong documentary Joshua: Teenager vs. Superpower, or a 2015 sci-fi movie called Ten Years that imagines life in Hong Kong in 2025 after precisely the sort of crackdown China just imposed, if Hong Kong’s Beijingcontrolled administration specifically asks them to
do so. Ten Years is already banned in China, where CCP apparatchiks denounced it as “absurd” and a “thought virus.” This, of course, means the film is deadly accurate in predicting five years ago what China was planning to do to Hong Kong. One of the five stories told in the film even revolves around China imposing a draconian national security law. The movie was enormously successful in pre-crackdown
Hong Kong, counting a teenager named Joshua Wong among its many fans. When it won Best Picture at the 2015 Hong Kong Film Awards, the Communists abruptly cut the video feed of the awards ceremony to mainland viewers. “Netflix does not proactively review its content based on local laws. The only instance where the company may consider removing these two titles is if the Hong Kong government submits a written demand
for them to be taken down,” the source said. Netflix admits for the record that it has banned nine movies and series at the request of various governments since the service launched in 1997. According to the HKFP’s source, if Hong Kong officials ask for Joshua and/or Ten Years to be banned, they would only be removed from Netflix Hong Kong and could still be viewed in other regions. Joshua Wong himself warned on Thursday that China’s security law will empower and encourage Hong Kong officials to make censorship demands of foreign news and entertainment media. He challenged companies like Netflix to clearly state, in advance, whether they would comply with such demands. “Unfortunately, YouTube and Netflix alike still remain silent on their stances on the national security law and whether they will bend to China’s whips and censor ‘sensitive videos’ from their platforms. We hope all service providers can put democratic values ahead of dollar signs,” he said. (Brietbart)

nother celeb couple has sadly announced their split in quarantine. Call Me by Your Name actor Armie Hammer and his wife Elizabeth Chambers wrote on Instagram that they are divorcing after 10 years of marriage. In identical posts featuring a throwback photo together, the couple wrote: "Thirteen years as best friends, soulmates, partners and then parents. It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage. As we enter into this next chapter, our children and relationship as co-parents and dear friends will remain our priority. We understand this news lends itself to public dialogue, but in the interest of our children and our family, we’re asking for privacy, compassion and love during this time." he Hong Kong Free Press (HKFP) reported that streaming giant Netflix has decided not to “proactively” censor a documentary about Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong, despite concerns it might be ruled “subversive” under the totalitarian security law Beijing has imposed on the island. According to the HKFP’s source, Netflix is still “gauging the implications and risks” posed by the security law, which gives the Hong Kong police sweeping powers to impose censorship and punish those accused of creating or broadcasting material that allegedly threatens Chinese national security. Virtually anything the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) dislikes could easily be labelled as a threat, particularly anything that smacks of “foreign interference in Hong Kong.” Censorship orders can be issued without court review. Quite a few books, movies, and websites have already been proactively banned in Hong Kong by creators and providers fearful of being persecuted under the national security law, including books written by Joshua Wong.

Still, Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane refused to say the league was Madrid’s to lose. “Anything can happen until this is over,” Zidane said. “It is a good result and how we have three to go.” Zidane had to experiment in defense with Sergio Ramos and Dani Car-

While the left side was held down by the experienced Raphael Varane and sometimes starter Ferland Mendy, the right side went to Éder Militão in just his ninth league start of the campaign and Lucas Vázquez, a forward. M a d r i d, J u l 1 1 (Agencies): Karim Benzema helped Real Madrid move one step closer to dethroning Lionel Messi’s Barcelona on Friday. Benzema scored one goal and set up another to lead Madrid to beating Alavés 2-0 and restoring a fourpoint lead over Barcelona in the Spanish league with only three rounds left. S a r aj e vo, J u l 1 1 (IANS): Zlatan Ibrahimovic has announced that his days in Milan are likely over since the club is not performing at the level he would like, Bosnian media has reported. The 38-year-old striker, who returned to Milan from Los Angeles club LA Galaxy in January and scored six goals since, said that neither he nor Milan belong in the Europa League, writes Xinhua news agency. “They told me that retiring in America was too easy, so I came back to Milan. I am here purely for passion, because I’m basically playing for free...Then the COVID-19 situation stopped everything and I thought, maybe there’s something trying to tell me that I should retire.” “We’ll see how I feel in two months. We’ll also see what’s happening with the club. If this is the situation, to be honest, it’s unlikely you’ll see me at Milan next season,” he added. Ibrahimovic further said he is not

sure if there will be another club after Milan but added that he still has too much passion for football. The Swedish striker recently said his return to AC Milan has coincided in a reversal of fortunes for the San Siro giants. The side, which has struggled to match up to its glory years of the past for nearly a decade now, has since the return of the football in Italy beaten title contenders Lazio and
Juventus, with the latter coming after Milan went 2-0 down on Tuesday. “It’s no secret that I’m old but it’s just a number,” he had said after the match. “I wanted to feel alive and I just want to play. I don’t have the same physique before, but I can overcome that with intelligence.” Ibrahimovic scored from the spot as Milan turned around the two-goal deficit to go on and win the match 4-2.
Madrid, Jul 11 (Agencies): Real Madrid leftback Marcelo was ruled out of his side’s La Liga clash against Deportivo Alaves after it was confirmed he suffered a muscle injury. The Spanish giants are unsure how long the 32year-old will be unavailable for as their defensive problems worsen towards the end of the season. Marcelo played all 90 minutes of Los Blancos’ 1-0 victory over Athletic Club on Sunday, but was sent for a scan at the club’s medical center on Friday which confirmed the injury. “Following the tests carried out today on Marcelo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to his left adductor muscle,” a statement on the club’s website read. “His recovery will continue to be assessed.” The Brazil international could be out for the remainder of Madrid’s La Liga campaign, as they have just four games left to go.
three minutes into the match when Edgar Méndez dribbled past him and sent a cross to the second post, where Joselu Sanmartín headed the ball off the bar. Casemiro then had to block a follow-up header of the rebound by Lucas Pérez. “We deserved to have scored that early goal,” new Alavés coach Juan Muñiz said. “You can’t miss those kinds of opportunities and still have much of a chance of pulling out the match. (Against Madrid) you have to take advantage of the scant opportunities you get.” Mendy, who may play more after Marcelo was sidelined with a muscle injury earlier Friday, cued Madrid’s first goal. He broke into the area and was tripped by Ximo Navarro from a clumsy tackle attempt. With Ramos, Madrid’s regular penalty taker, unavailable, Benzema converted. His 18th league goal of the season is second only to Messi’s 22. Alavés tried to rally through Oliver Burke. The Scottish forward drew a save from Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the 27th. Minutes later he dribbled past Vázquez and Militão, only to see Sanmartín scuff his dangerous
pass back to the center of the area. Madrid took full control just after halftime when Benzema broke Alavés’ offside trap to reach Rodrygo’s through-ball. Benzema drew Alavés goalie Roberto Jiménez to him and laid off for Asensio to tap into the open net. A video review had to overturn the initial decision that Benzema was offside. Alavés was playing its first match under Muñiz, who replaced Asier Garitano after the team lost five in a row. The new defeat left the Basque Country club three points above the relegation zone. The match was played without fans in Madrid’s smaller Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium while Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is undergoing renovations. Meanwhile, Domingos Duarte scored the winning goal after setting up Granada’s opener in a 3-2 victory at Real Sociedad, keeping alive his side’s chances of qualifying for the Europa League. Granada was level on points with Valencia, and one point behind Sociedad. The three are in contention with Getafe and Villarreal for a spot in the Europa League. Granada hosts Madrid on Monday.
City to learn CAS decision on UEFA ban appeal on Monday Lo n d o n, J u l 1 1 (IANS): English Premier League club Manchester City will learn on Monday the decision of Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over their appeal against the two-year UEFA ban, announced CAS late on Friday. In February, UEFA confirmed that Manchester City has been banned from European competitions for the next two seasons and fined 30 million euros (32.5 million US dollars) after being found guilty of “serious breaches” of UEFA’s financial fair play rules, reports Xinhua news agency. The club denied any wrongdoing and appealed to CAS. According to reports of British media, their appeal began in June and has been heard by three CAS lawyers. City has been unthroned by Liverpool in the Premier League this season as the Reds clinched their first top-flight title in 30 years with seven games remaining. But the powerhouses look unthreatened in the second place as they are holding a nine-point lead to third-placed Chelsea with four games to play. City will host Real
Madrid in the Champions League last 16 round second leg in early August. They won the first leg 2-1 in Madrid. Meanwhile, the historic UEFA Champions League quarter-final and semi-final draw took place on Friday. It was historic in the sense because it took place even before all the matches in Round of 16 got over. The Champions League had to be stopped in March due to the coronavirus pandemic with few second-leg matches left to be played. The governing body had earlier announced dates of the second-leg matches which will be played behind closed doors in Turin, Manchester, Munich and Barcelona on August 7 and 8 respectively.
‘Good tennis can compete with others sports’
Roger Federer
Zurich, Jul 11 (IANS): Tennis legend Roger Federer feels it is good for the sport that players are getting financially stronger and can compete in that aspect with other disciplines. The 20-time Grand Slam champion recently was in the top spot on the annual Forbes list of the highest-paid athletes for
the first time this year with $106.3 million in pre-tax earnings. The Swiss ace is the first tennis player to take the No. 1 rank since the list debuted in 1990, as per Forbes official website. “Maybe it’s good for tennis that we can compete with football, boxing, Formula 1 and basketball,
where the wages are incredible. But I’m rather embarrassed when it’s in the papers,” Federer was quoted as saying in an interview with Zeit. Swiss ace Federer recently said he expects to be at 100 per cent ahead of next season considering he was able to get a long break from the game due
to coronavirus pandemic. “For me, it’s been very nice to be in Switzerland for as long as I have been since the lockdown,” Federer was quoted as saying by Tennis World. “For the last 25 years or so, I have been traveling a lot, never spending two consecutive months at home; now, we have been in Switzerland for four or five months, enjoying ourselves. “The life quality in Switzerland is great, now we have summer and the people who spend time outside, just like we do. The last couple of months were dominated by two knee surgeries. I had to take step by step, going with the rehab and slow recovery,” he added. With recovery underway, Federer expects himself to return to full fitness before the 2021 season. Federer had earlier announced via his Twitter handle in June that he had to undergo an ‘additional arthroscopic procedure’ on his knee that will see him miss the revamped 2020 tennis calendar.
Averages don’t matter much to me: Rahane Fatigue could see Roma’s M u m b ai , J u l 1 1 (IANS): Senior India batsman Ajinkya Rahane has said more than averages, it is his contribution towards the team’s cause that matters to him. “When you bat in India at number 5 or 6, you usually walk in when your team is at 300 for 3 or 350 for 3. By that time, you have to accelerate to make runs because teams want to declare,” Rahane said in the latest episode of ESPNcricinfo Cricketbaazi as India’s Test vice-captain spoke to former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta. “But when you’re playing abroad, even if you walk in after a good partnership, like I did in Melbourne, the ball is still really hard, the wicket is good so you are able to play your shots. It helps even more if you are an attacking player like me. You have more time to play your shots abroad. Averages don’t matter that much to me. I think your contribution at the right time matters a lot,” said the 32-year old who has played 65 Tests for India. Rahane is also one of K Y M C

the best slip fielders in the world. “Before my Ranji Trophy debut, during my U-19 days, I took a lot of good catches in the slip. My
coach thought that finally they have found a good slip fielder. But then after seeing my disappointing performance in the slips during my first Ranji sea-
son, they started to doubt my capabilities. “I felt terrible that I was dropping so many catches. It was my first season at Ranji and I was nervous. But then I realised that a player has such seasons too in life. Anybody can drop catches. I started practising catches. I would take 100 catches in every training session. I would even practise taking catches alone to get an idea of the angle at which the ball arrives, I would also practice onehanded catches to see how much I could stretch. This practice made me a good fielder at slips,” narrated the ace Mumbai batsman. Commenting on what kind of temperament does one need to be a good slip fielder, he said: “It is important to be relaxed and calm while fielding in the slips. You need to know when to switch on and switch off. You can’t always be switched on. You need to be switched on for three to four seconds, when it’s important, and then switch off. If you don’t do that, you might lose focus when you really need it.” Rahane also shared
the advice he got from batting legend and former India captain Rahul Dravid. “Don’t bother about what your shots are going to look like. Just watch the ball and hit it. What matters is how impactful your inning is. So the longer you bat, better your strike rate gets,” he said of what Dravid told him. Rahane joined the national team in 2011. Recalling what it was like to be among the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag, Rahane said: “It was unreal. My mind went blank for some time when I was sitting among them and watching them have fun in the dressing room. “They all seemed serious on the outside, but they used to have fun in the dressing room. They all made me feel comfortable and would keep asking me if I wanted throwdowns during our net sessions. I think I learnt a lot from how they prepared before every match. I used to watch their routines. Each of them had a different routine that I’d follow closely and learn a lot from.”
Edin Dzeko get sidelined
S a r aj e vo, J u l 1 1 (IANS): Italian Serie A side Roma’s coach Paulo Fonseca has said that he hopes to have Edin Dzeko available against Brescia on Saturday. “We will see about Dzeko. We can’t forget that he played the last two games and there are few days to recover. I talked to him yesterday and he was a bit tired. I would like to speak to him again, to decide,” said Fonseca on Friday as per Bosnian media, writes Xinhua news agency. Dzeko, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s and Roma’s top striker, played 37 games this season registering 17 goals and 10 assists. “I don’t want to make too many changes. We have Dzeko’s situation at stake and we must understand if he will be ready or not,” said Fonseca, adding that no one is irreplaceable. Burnley hold Liverpool 1-1 in EPL
Lo n d o n, J u l 1 1 (Agencies): Jay Rodriguez’s equaliser ended Liverpool’s 100 per cent home Premier League record and dented their hopes of setting a new highest points tally as Burnley secured a 1-1 draw at Anfield. The champions dominated the Clarets for much of the game and Andy Robertson put them in front in a one-sided first half that saw the outstanding Nick Pope make a string of fine saves. Roberto Firmino hit the post after the break as Liverpool remained on the front foot, but the in-form Clarets started to pose more of a threat and Rodriguez salvaged an unlikely point. Johann Gudmundsson rattled the crossbar late on as Burnley almost snatched a stunning victory. Liverpool need seven points from their last three games to match Manchester City’s record of 100 points in a top-flight season after slipping up at home following 24 successive league wins. Liverpool played with the swagger of champions from the start and Pope produced a brilliant reflex save to keep out Mohamed Salah’s right-footed volley before the Clarets goal-

Stokes is 2nd-fastest to 150 wkts
Never stopped believing: Nadal
Ben Stokes
Southampton, Jul 11 (IANS): Stand-in England captain Ben Stokes added another feather into his already illustrious cap as he achieved the rare feat of 150 wickets and 4000 runs in the longest format. During the third day of the first Test of #raisethebat series against West Indies at Ageas Bowl in Southampton, Stokes picked four wickets (4/49) to play a starring role in bundling out
West Indies for 318 in the first innings. Stokes’ third wicket was that of Alzarri Joseph and was his 150th wicket in Test cricket. He became the sixth cricketer in the history of the format to do the double of 4000 runs and 150 wickets. Former stars, namely, West Indian Gary Sobers, England’s Ian Botham, India’s Kapil Dev, South Africa’s Jacques Kallis and
New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori are the others to achieve this feat. Stokes became the second-fastest to do so as Sobers got to the feat in 63 Tests and Stokes took 64 matches to achieve this milestone. Earlier, Stokes was named as England’s 81st captain after regular Test skipper Joe Root left the bio-secure bubble in Southampton for Sheffield for the birth of his second child.
Lo n d o n, J u l 1 1 (IANS): After two consecutive losses in 2006 and 2007 to Roger Federer in the final of the Wimbledon, Rafael Nadal finally managed to beat his arch rival in 2008 in a match that is regarded as one of the greatest of all time in the history of the sport. “Wimbledon for everybody is special. When I was a kid most of the time I saw Sampras winning. For me, it was a personal goal,” Nadal told the BBC. “Well, I think 2006 I went to that final without believing in victory. 2007 was a completely different story. I felt ready to compete and I was there. I lost the 5th and I had my chances. In 2008 I was playing great.” “I came into the final with the feeling that I was not the favorite but I was ready to win. And I never stopped believing in victory. I had some tough moments, especially in the fourth set.” In a match that lasted four hours and 48 minutes, Nadal beat Federer 6–4, 6–4, 6–7(5–7), 6–7(8–10), 9–7.
more heroics on the stroke of half-time, somehow palming Sadio Mane’s rasping left-foot drive away for a corner. Liverpool carried on where they left off after the break, Firmino striking the post with his left foot before Curtis Jones - making his first Premier League start - fired into the Kop. Salah was denied a penalty when he tangled with James Tarkowski, who was then involved in an equaliser from out of the blue with just over 20 minutes to go. The centre-back nodded down a free-kick in the Liverpool penalty area and Rodriguez swivelled to drill into the far corner with his right foot and Gudmundsson struck the bar in a dramatic finale. It appeared Jurgen Klopp’s men were going to ease to yet another win on Merseyside, but a combination of Rodriguez and Pope had other ideas. The champions need to win all three matches against Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United to better Manchester City’s tally of 100. Liverpool travel to the capital for a clash with Arsenal on Wednesday, while the Clarets face Wolves at Turf Moor on the same evening.

Bolt to come out of retirement
Jamaica, Jul 11 (IANS): Eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt recently revealed what could make him come out of retirement and catch the imagination of track and field fans worldwide once again. Following a decade of dominance, Bolt hung up his illustrious boots after finishing third in the 100m event at the World Championships in 2017 in London. “If my coach came back and told me, Let’s do this,’ I will because I believe so much in my coach. So, I know if he says, We’re gonna do this,’ I know it’s possible,” Bolt said on Variety AfterShow presented by National Geographic. Following his retirement from sprinting, Bolt had tried his hands at professional football as he trained with Australian A-League side Central Coastal Mariners in October 2018. However, couple of months later, he decided against pursuing a career in football. Bolt recently became a father after partner Kasi Bennett gave birth to a babygirl in May. He stated it is more difficult than winning sprinting laurels across the world. “This is harder. The first week I got sick because

Many are of the opinion that a compromise will be reached that allows the one-club man to remain in his current surroundings, with Font among those hoping to get the chance to work with the mercurial Argentine if he wins the race to replace Josep Maria Bartomeu in a prominent boardroom post. “We do not have direct information on the case,” Font told Ole of the Messi rumours. “The club, for its part, has stated that it is not aware of the player’s decision to freeze negotiations for the renewal of his contract and that we are going to enjoy him for longer. We will soon know what is true in all of this because, in January, Leo will be free to negotiate with any club and, therefore, an agreement between Barca and

‘Ministry to help needy former sportspersons’ New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI): Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said the ministry will continue to offer financial help to the needy former sportspersons since they deserve “respect and dignity” for the dedication with which they served the country. The ministry has been providing financial assistance to former athletes like 1998 Bangkok Asian Games gold medallist boxer Dingko Singh in their times of crisis. “I feel very sad when former athletes don’t have money for their medical treatment or their living condition is very bad. So, as far as possible we try to provide financial help to all the past and present sportspersons,” he said at a virtual farewell of former athletics chief coach Bahadur Singh. “There are a lot of athletes who win medals and achieve success and their commercial value is high. And there are also a lot of athletes who dedicated their lives for country’s sport but for some reason could not achieve success. They are forgotten by the society.
Kiren Rijiju
“So, we will continue to provide financial assistance to all those sports persons who have represented the country in international events but currently facing financial problems in life.” He said his ministry gives utmost importance to the athletes. “The athletes should be given respect and dignity at every level of the society. If we are not doing that, we are giving a wrong message. I feel very sad when athletes are not given respect and dignity,” Rijiju said. Bahadur Singh quit as athletics chief coach on
‘January will show if Lionel Messi wants out or not’
Ma d r i d, J u l 1 1 (Agencies): The January transfer window of 2021 will offer the greatest indicator of whether Lionel Messi wants out of Barcelona, says Camp Nou presidential candidate Victor Font, with the expectation being that the superstar performer will be convinced to stay put. As things stand, the six-time Ballon d’Or is entering the final 12 months of his current contract in Catalunya. Messi is said to have shelved extension talks amid concerns regarding the leadership of Barca behind the scenes and struggles for consistency on the field. Exit talk has been sparked as a result, with Manchester City and Inter once again being mooted as possible landing spots for the all-time great. Otherwise, we would be in a very serious situation.” “It is important to understand that the engine that drives Messi is to play the best football possible, win titles and make fans happy. Leo and his family have been happy living in Barcelona for many years and, frankly, I see him far away from wanting to generate or fuel controversy. Messi arrived at Barca 20 years ago, when he was 13, and neither I nor any Barcelona player can imagine Leo playing in a shirt that is not Barcelona’s.” “He has been a oneclub man and Barca and Messi must know how to always walk together. He added, “There is something much more important than the contract: the sports project that we are building for Barca. I am sure that learning about the project may be more interesting to a player like him than the type of contract. And in this sense, we have been working for years to reconstruct the entire technical structure of Barca and contacting the greatest Barcelona talent available. “ “Barca’s future project must have those professionals who know the style that has brought Barca to the top of world football. I’m sure this is far more important to someone like Leo than the type of contract.”
June 30 in accordance with the ministry guidelines that do not allow people above 70 years of age in coaching staff at national camps. Rijiju described Singh as an “iconic figure” in Indian sports and said his retirement will mark the “end of an era”. “Two decades as a top athlete, winning gold medals in the Asians Games and other international events (in shot put), and then nearly three decades as a coach is something difficult to match. You will continue to inspire the Indian sporting fraternity in future also,” the min-
ister said. “The athletes will try to emulate you and we need to find many more Bahadur Singhs in the years to come.” Indian Olympic Association President Narinder Batra described Singh as a distinguished personality in Indian sports. “Bahadur ji has helped develop a culture in the AFI and I hope the athletes will emulate him,” Batra said. South Asian Athletics Federation President Lalit Bhanot said the AFI will continue to use Singh’s services in various capacities. “It is just a formal retirement but Bahadur ji will continue to be involved with the AFI. He will continue to be associated with AFI and guide us in the monitoring of the national camps,” Bhanot said. Sports Authority of India Director General Sandip Pradhan, IOA Secretary General Rajiv Mehta, former IOA Secretary General Randhir Singh, former athletes PT Usha, Anju Bobby George and Sriram Singh, and current athletes Hima Das and M R Poovamma also wished Singh well in his future endeavours.
Ole downplays Mason Greenwood’s burn-out talks
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Manchester, Jul 11 (IANS): Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Saturday said he is not concerned about burnout talks surrounding young forward Mason Greenwood. 18-year-old Greenwood has taken the Premier League by storm following coronavirus stoppage and has played a pivotal role in the ‘Red Devils’ remaining unbeaten in 17 matches across competitions. In total, Greenwood has featured in 42 matches this term and scored 16 goals in all competitions. Solksjaer downplayed workload management talks and stated Greenwood is a young
talent and just wants to play football all the time. “At that age he has so much energy, he has no fear, you just want to play football. If we had a day off he’d probably go and play football with his mates,” Solksjaer was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “I’m not worried about Mason this season. We know what he is capable of and always trusted him to be a part of this squad and chip in with goals. We see it everyday. He is just a natural footballer. The club know what they are doing with the education of players,” the Norwegian added.
