KOHIMA, JUL 11 (NPN): Nagaland Governor, P.B. Acharya on Tuesday directed chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu to “obtain vote of confidence” on the floor of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on or before July 15, 2017. This was stated in a communiqué issued by PRO to Governor. PRO said that the directive comes following the claim submitted by former chief minister, T.R. Zeliang to form the new government stating that he commands support of 34 MLAs and seven Independent MLAs of the NLA. PRO has also refuted the reports circulating on social media that the Governor had issued directive to postpone the floor test in view of the forthcoming Presidential election slated to be held on July 17. Meanwhile, chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu in a letter dated July 11, to the NLA Speaker, Dr. Imtiwapang stated that that the question of summoning the State Legislative Assembly on or before July 15 to hold the vote of confidence does not arise since the cabinet had not recommended the same to the Governor. He said the Governor
had issued the directive based on the request submitted to him by a group of legislators led by T.R. Zeliang. Citing the instance of Nabam Rebia and Bamang Felxi Vs the deputy speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, Dr. Liezietsu maintained that the Supreme Court had “clearly laid down that the Governor has no authority on his own to summon, prorogue or dissolve the Legislative Assembly.” In this regard, Dr. Liezietsu said that the Governor can only do so on the aid and advice of the council of ministers headed by the chief minister. “This being the inescapable position of law, since the council of ministers has not advised the Governor to summon the State Assembly, the question of summoning the assembly on or before July 15, 2017 does not arise,” the chief minister reiterated. Dr. Shürho files nomination: Nagaland chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, who filed his nomination on Tuesday for the 10-Northern Angami-I bye-election scheduled to be held on July 29, expressed confidence that the NPFled DAN-III will complete its full term.
Cabinet differs with Governor’s directive TR Zeliang refutes Yitachu’s claim
DIMAPUR, JUL 11 (NPN): The state cabinet, at a meeting held in the residential office of the chief minister on July 11, discussed the letter from the state Governor received on July 11, asking chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsü to obtain vote of confidence on the floor of the house on or before July 15,2017. According to a communiqué issued jointly by chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsü and cabinet secretary Pankaj Kumar, after due discussion, the following were the considered views of the cabinet: 1.That the present dissidence within the NPF legislature was caused by dissident MLAs for change of leadership and so an internal party affair. There is no split in the NPF party and it supports the present council of ministers headed by Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsü. The
cabinet maintained that the party and the council of ministers collectively endeavour to resolve the internal party problem. 2. That those dissidents camped in Kaziranga under T.R. Zeliang demanding change of leadership were still NPF members and though as many as ten(10) have been suspended, yet they were still bound by their membership of the party and have no separate legal identity in the assembly. Therefore, the dissidents have no legal right to ask the Governor to effect change of leadership, an issue that could only be taken up in the official meeting of the NPF legislature party. Thus, they cannot demand summoning of a special session of the assembly to resolve an internal party matter. 3. On the Governor summoning the Legislative Assembly, the cabinet was of
the firm opinion that there was no such justification for an emergent session to discuss or resolve the internal affairs of the NPF party. 4. On summoning of the assembly on or before July 15, the cabinet made a reference to the ruling of the Hon’ble Supreme Court (para 26) of the said judgment ruled “ ... in such view of the matter, we are satisfied in concluding that the Governor can summon or prorogue and dissolve the house, only on the aid and advice of the Council of Ministers with the chief minister as the head. And not at his own.” 5. The Cabinet also pointed out that by election to the 10 Northern Angami –I Constituency was notified and model code of conduct in force. Since the chief minister has already filed his nomination to contest the by election, it would not be
DIMAPUR, JUL 11 (NPN): Former chief minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang, has refuted the claims made by School Education & SCERT and NPF spokesperson, Yitachu that Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu offered him the office of chief minister but he declined the offer. Zeliang, who issued a statement as leader of NPF Legislature Party and chairman DAN, said that the statement of Yitachu was “a concoction of untruths as well as facts, the latter being in lesser quantity.” He stated that on July 7, 2017, an emissary of the NPF party spoke to him over phone, when he almost reached Kaziranga, requesting him to return to take over the office of the chief minister, which Dr. Shürhozelie was willing to relinquish with conditions. The major condition, Zeliang said was that some of the MLAs have to be left behind, and a reunion with Dr. Shürhozelie effected. Former chief minister said he considered this condition as a fatal blow to the unity within the (Cont’d on p-8) NPF that was firmly emerging de-
spite the present crisis. Therefore, Zeliang said he declined the offer. “I indeed had forgone power that was coming to me on a platter for the party’s unity. I never wanted to betray those with whom I made agreements for larger unity within the NPF,” he said. Zeliang said since his position was for party unity, it was “absolutely wrong” on the part of Yitachu to spread misinformation and canards that he refused to accept the office of the chief minister from Dr. Shürhozelie. “The offer being conditional and intended to drive a wedge between me and Rio, I declined it.” Zeliang said. Will abide by number game: TR Zeliang who had staked claim to form the new NPF-led DAN government on Tuesday said he had the numerical strength of 44 MLAs now (37 NPF and 7 independent). Zeliang said that in a democracy, he desired to abide by the number game and not succumbed to “cunning and trapping games” aimed at compromising the unity of the party. (Cont’d on p-5)
NPF responds to MLA over appointment of DAN chairman
DIMAPUR, JUL 11 (NPN): Naga People’s Front (NPF), central office through its media & press bureau (M&PB) has responded to the objection raised by Merentoshi, MLA, over the appointment of Kuzholuzo (Azo) Neinu (Cont’d on p-8) as DAN chairman, saying the MLA seemed to be confused about the post and position of chairman, DAN coordination committee. M&PB said that DAN chairman was head of the coalition of political parties and accordingly the chairman was appointed by the political parties and not by legislators as the MLA believes. It stated that Azo was unanimously selected at a combined meeting of the BJP, JD(U), NCP and NPF at State Banquet Hall on July 10, 2017. On MLA’s contention that the name of the governor “Sorry Sir. It may be was not invoked in the aptourist off season but pointment letter as required, Naga MLAs have taken the M&PB said the post of all the rooms.” chairman was a political post

vation due to its deteriorating condition which led to restriction against plying of heavy vehicles. According to DC, department of PWD (R&B) issued a work order for dismantling of the bending bridge and construction of a new one to a firm M/s Nagami-tech for Rs.37 crores. He said the contractor had already started initial work to place a sub way but it was washed away due to the volume and current of the water. The completion time of the new bridge was 36 effective months. It was reported that the
The state Cabinet on Tuesday night directed the state government to pay ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased and also to the injured due to the collapse of the bridge at 4th Mile near Referral Hospital, Dimapur. Expressing shock and profound grief over the loss of four precious lives and injuries to others, the cabinet during an emergency also directed the government to setup an inquiry to be conducted by the secretary (Law & Justice) into the circumstances leading to the collapse of the bridge and loss of lives and injuries and to recommend suitable measures for prevention of such incidents in future.
Gov asks CM to seek vote of confidence
appointed/selected by political parties of the DAN. It pointed out that the governor, not being a member of any political party, had nothing to do with this political post. However, M&PB said that the government’s notification clearly stated that “the Governor is pleased to confer upon Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu, chairman, Democratic Alliance of Nagaland, the rank and status of Cabinet Minister...” Therefore, it said MLA describing the notification as “rubbish” was highly derogatory to the highest office in the state (Raj Bhavan) and could attract penal if desired. M&PB said it was unbecoming of an elected member to demean the office of the governor, adding that MLA’s “tirade” was utterly shocking and unexpected. Also, responding to the attack by rebel MLAs, the M&PB reminded that the chief minister did not want to oc-
cupy the chair in the first place, but was forced by the legislators to occupy the seat “when it was too hot for any of them to occupy.” “They all know that the Chief Minister is the sacrificial lamb,” it added. Further, M&PB said it would be “most ungracious” to allege that the chief minister, who was called in to save the party-led government barely five months back, was greedy for power, especially when he had invited TR Zeliang to come back and take over the government. It said Merentoshi, MLA, himself being a former cabinet minister, ought to be aware that governments never sleep. “Be it a Sunday, day or night, governments have to take decisions,” M&PB said, adding that if the chief minister was pleased to terminate the services of some of his cabinet colleagues or parliamentary secretaries, they were no longer entitled to the perks and privileges that go along with the offices they oc-
cupied. It stated that once they were not entitled to those privileges it would not be ethical on their part to continue availing the facilities. M&PB said it would be appropriate if “dispossessed” legislators voluntarily surrendered their official vehicles along with drivers and security guards instead of threatening bureaucrats from carrying out official duties. Meanwhile, M&PB said that as per collective decision of the party, Dr. Shürhozelie on Tuesday filed his nomination papers for the bye-elections scheduled for July 29. In this regard, the NPF said the Model Code of Conduct was in force, adding that the election process and laws governing the same envisaged free and fair conduct of elections. “This means that persons are barred by law from inducing electors to vote for or against a particular candidate,” it said. M&PB said the govern-
ment was also bound by those laws and as such, during the pendency of elections and until its conclusion, no action could be taken either through government processes or through individual acts that could affect fair and independent conduct of elections. M&PB said that individuals and legislators too must realise that they have to refrain from making statements about the unseating of present chief minister, who himself was NPF candidate, until conclusion of election process, since it could influence the outcome of bye-election. Further, M&PB said that party MLAs would be liable for disciplinary action to the extent of disqualification as negative campaigning by party MLAs against the party candidate, who is also the sitting chief minister, would amount to voluntarily giving up one’s own membership of NPF party under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution.
Talking to media persons outside DC’s office, after filing his nomination, Dr. Liezietsu said he was not ambitious and maintained that he was ready to pave way any day if the government was unstable. Upon his re-entrance in politics when asked whether he looks forth for next 2018 state general election, he said it will be too early to comment. When asked about the directive by Nagaland Governor, P.B. Acharya to hold the vote of confidence in the house on or before July 15, he said the present the political crisis was “an internal NPF family issue and that they will try to solve the problem with mutual understanding among themselves.” Dr. Liezietsu was also optimistic that the MLAs will return soon and join his fold again. Meanwhile, Dr. Liezietsu informed that his son Khriehu Liezietsu was nominated as his stand-by candidate. The chief minister was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP, K.G. Kenye, DAN chairman Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu, ministers-- C.L. John, Yitachu, Y. Vikheho Swu, P. Longon, parliamentary secretaries-- R. Tohanba, Jacob Zhimomi, advisor Thongwang Konyak, NPF officials.

RNPO expressed hope that despite challenges that stand in the way to final settlement, GPRN will be able to translate the Nagas’ aspiration to practicality and defend their lands, resources and rights from
adversaries. In its memorandum to kilo kilonser, RNPO has drawn the attention on the jurisdiction of land that belong to Rongmei tribe spread across the Northeast. In a statement RNPO president, G. Namgai, said: “We have 297 recognized villages in Manipur, Assam and Nagaland. However, we are unconvinced that GPRN has really made its effort to cover its administrative influence over other parts of Rongmei’s jurisdiction like Lotak Project Area, Imphal and vast stretch in Jiribam except
Tamenglong under Zeilad Region. The Rongmei’s vast land is mainly located in far-flung areas, bordering present states of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur and needs special attention of the GPRN.” Meanwhile, kilo kilonser informed the delegation that the Framework Agreement is near to final solution and that Nagas will soon enjoy the fruits of their hard work in the forms of administrative and financial autonomy. He also urged the RNPO members to continue to support the Naga cause, the statement added.

passes. “The agitators, who include women, are peacefully blockading the roads and railway line. No untoward incident has been reported so far. We are closely supervising the situation since Sunday, a day before the blockade was started,” West District Police Chief Abhijit Saptarshi told IANS from the blockade area, 35 km north of here. Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chief Public Relations Officer Pranav Jyoti Sharma said that in view of the blockade, all trains were cancelled in Tripura. The IPFT is agitating for the creation of a separate state, carved out by upgrading the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) area. The politically-important council constitutes
two-thirds of Tripura’s 10,491 sq.km. area which has 12,16,465 (mostly tribals) of the state’s 37 lakh population residing in it. IPFT President Narendra Chandra Debbarma said: “In support of our demand, we would continue to block the National Highway and the railway for an indefinite period until the central government gives a positive assurance towards our demand. A rally would also be organised in Agartala on the same issue on August 23.” Most of the political parties, including the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have rejected IPFT’s demands. H owe ve r, C P I - M State Secretary Bijan Dhar blamed the BJP for the blockade, saying they did a similar thing in Manipur.
Manipur observes World Population Day Correspondent
IMPHAL, Jul 11: Manipur health and family welfare minister L Jayantakumar Tuesday called for collective responsibility to check population growth in the country. The poor suffer more in countries where there is fast population growth,” he added. SC stays ban on sale of cattle
Animals Act, 1960, whose Section 28 says it is not an offence to “kill any animal in a manner required by the religion of any community”.
Kisan Sabha welcomes stay on cattle trade ban
Supreme Court of India exports that is to the tune of Rs 1 lakh crore. The Central government had on May 25 brought a notification by which sale and purchase of cattle in the cattle market for slaughter was banned. Several states refused to implement it. The court order on Tuesday came on a plea by All India Jamitul Quresh Action Committee, which has challenged the notification banning the sale of cattle for slaughtering and regulating the transporting of livestock. After passing the order, the court disposed of the petition by All India Jamitul Quresh Action Committee and others. All India Jamitul Quresh Action Committee had challenged the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
(Regulation of Livestock Markets) Rules, 2017, banning sale of cattle for slaughtering and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Care and Maintenance of Case Property Animals) Rules, 2017 which provides for the seizures, recovery of the cost of transportation, maintenance and treatment of seized animals. It was contended by the organisation that both the rules banning sale of cattle for slaughtering and the other regulating the transporting of livestock were arbitrary, illegal, and unconstitutional. It also argued the rule that the purchaser of cattle “shall not sacrifice the animal for any religious purpose” was contrary to the Prevention of Cruelty to
India rushes aid to Philippines battling deadly ISIS group NEW DELHI, JUL 11 (AGENCIES): India has rushed financial assistance of $500,000 (25 million pesos) to Philippines as it battles ISIS-affiliated terror groups in the city of Marawi, 800 km south of Manila, in the troubled Mindanao province. Intended for relief and rehabilitation, it is the first time India is sending aid to another country to save itself from deadly terror groups. The aid follows a conversation between Sushma Swaraj and Philippines’ foreign secretary, Alan Peter Cayetano, on July 6. A statement by the Indian embassy in Manila says Swaraj expressed “sympathies and condolences for the tragic loss of life in Marawi city.” According to sources, the battle between Philippines forces and ISIS-affiliated groups is “like 26/11, going on for the past seven weeks”. So far 90 soldiers have been killed, over 380 terrorists and dozens of civilians also dead, according to reports quoting the local police chief. Hundreds are still held hostage as the terrorists battle advancing forces. The battle is still under way, and it is the biggest challenge to Duterte,
Gopalkrishna is Oppn pick for VP
The current battle started when the terrorists resisted the arrest of an Abu Sayyaf leader, leading to the current pitched battle between Duterte’s forces and the Islamists.
The Left-affiliated All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) on Tuesday welcomed the stay order by the Supreme Cour t on the Centre’s notification banning sale and purchase of cattle for slaughter. The AIKS was one of the petitioners that had challenged the notification issued by the Environment Ministry on May 25. Calling the development a “peasants’ victory”, it said the apex court “will empower secular forces”. It said the government appeared to be under “severe pressure” due to the ongoing peasants’ struggle demanding withdrawal of the notification banning cattle trade. “Thus the victory of the joint struggle by the peasants,” the release said. In its petition, AIKS had said the notification would “choke free movement of animals via the market space” and “completely undermine the freedom and rights of farmers, traders and all others whose livelihoods are linked to this production cycle”.
Gopalkrishna Gandhi NEW DELHI, JUL 11 (AGENCIES): The Opposition on Tuesday picked former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi as its candidate for VicePresidential election. The decision to pick Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson came after leaders from 18 Opposition parties met on Tuesday. Gandhi’s was the only name that was reportedly discussed in the meeting that took place in Parliament House. After the meeting, Congress President Sonia Gandhi told reporters that all the parties unanimously decided to raise Gandhi’s name for the candidature. The Congress President said, “Eighteen parties have decided to field Gopalkrishna Gandhi as their vice presidential candidate.” “We have spoken to Gopalkrishna Gandhi. He has agreed to be the opposition’s candidate for vice president,” she further added.

He said the top government officials should have the collective vision and capabilities to overcome challenges. In this regard, experience sharing is very important, he added. Modi said a team of young officers from across the states should deliberate and learn from these best practices by visiting each state. These will help in efficient adoption of best practices across the states, he added. The Prime Minister also asked officers to remain mindful of the com-

On the agriculture sector, Modi said the use of technology was imperative. He stressed on eliminating wastage in farm produce, and focus on food processing. He called for states to focus on agriculture reforms, and e-NAM in particular. New Delhi, Jul 11 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended across the country the Madras High Court order putting on hold the Central government’s notification banning the sale and purchase of cattle for slaughter from the cattle market. As a bench of Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud extended the operation of the Madras High Court order, the government told the court that it would be renotifying the Rules after considering objections from the stakeholders. “The interim order passed by the Madera bench of Madras High Court would extend to rest of the country”, the bench said in its order. Even as Additional Solicitor General PS Narasimha told the bench not to pass any order as Central government was amenable to the High Court jurisdiction, the bench clarified that High Court order would extend to entire country. Narasimha informed the bench that the government would not implement for three months the Rules banning the sale of cattle at livestock markets for slaughtering. Sushma Swaraj because among other things, Mindanao is his home too. India is now the largest donor for this crisis. China, which is Philippines’ new best friend came up with 15 million pesos in aid. As Filipino forces attempt to clear the besieged city, they are reportedly encountering snipers, booby traps, all indicating that the terrorists have been around for a while. Duterte put the Mindanao province under martial law for 60 days, and he is on record to say that he would complete the operation in another 15 days. The terrorists belong to something called the Maute group, which is armed to the teeth and flush with foreign fighters from Malaysia and Indonesia. This group is associated with the Abu Sayyaf group which is part of ISIS’ global footprint.

Former chief minister also termed as “shameful” that those who appointed Kuzholuzo as DAN chairman did not even realise that he lacked the support of four BJP MLAs and the independent MLAs. He said Azo’s appointment, as pointed out by Merentoshi, was “illegal and foul” in the eyes of law. “I need not elaborate on this,” Zeliang said. Meanwhile, Zeliang stated with 44 MLAs supporting him, Dr. Shürhozelie, who has been guiding NPF party almost since its inception and had been a fatherly figure, should be able to read the writing on the wall. Further, Zeliang said gracefulness and gratefulness were qualities that an erudite person like Dr. Shürhozelie should be able to display when confronted with hard facts and reality. Stating that he facilitated a smooth transition, Zeliang said Dr. Shürhozelie should be able to reciprocate, adding that “I will never accept conditions that divide the NPF party in an election year.” Zeliang underlined that he was prepared to get the government through the democratic means of a floor test so that unity within the rank and file of the party was firmly secured. Zeliang expressed hope that Dr. Shürhozelie would not dash his hope and the hopes of the Naga people to rise to the occasion in protecting the NPF party unity. K

Murder in the name of religion
D
espite the security put in place for the Amarnath yatris, the terrorists managed to pick up a bus which was not part of the yatra convoy and slaughtered seven innocent and helpless pilgrims. According to reports, the attack took place at Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district at 8:20 pm Monday. Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur has been under high security for the yatra and internet services have been snapped. According to reports, the ill fated bus had reportedly not followed security procedures where movement of pilgrims are banned after 7 p.m. The bus was also reportedly not part of the official tour for the Yatra which means that it was not given the customary police protection. The Centre has announced a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to next of kin of each of the seven Amarnath pilgrims killed in the Valley, and Rs 1 lakh each for the injured persons. Such attacks have become frequent in Jammu and Kashmir in recent months and each incident leading to apprehensions that terrorists gain more space to carry out such inhuman acts even as the challenge before the law enforcement become more difficult. The terror attack on Amarnath yatris is not only inhuman but also deserving a response to bring those killers to justice. Pilgrimage to Amarnath. In India, it is not surprising for politicians exploiting any such incident for political mileage. The statement of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in blaming prime minister Narendra Modi for the lapses in security was misplaced and totally not in line with reality. The prime minister or for that matter the home minister of India and army chief cannot be blamed for every terror attack that takes place. Those making such accusations are only inviting ridicule on themselves and also exposing chinks in the national armour. When the country needed a common voice to speak out loud against terrorism and to send a strong message that terrorists will not go unpunished and it is indeed a shame that the incidents were sought to be politicized. Compare the response to similar terrorist attacks that ripped through the London Metro in 2005. When the British Parliament met, politics was not the language spoken but the language of unity against the enemy of freedom in which all members of the British Parliament soberly joined hands with their government in sending a strong message to the world against terrorism. Terror attacks will continue and no government or political party worth their salt should ever think of politicizing such actions of those whose only ideology is to cause murder and mayhem. Terrorism in various forms pose the greatest challenge before a free world and no amount of politics can ever justify such inhuman and evil methods. Terrorists take advantage of the democratic freedom by donning the cloak of fighting for the rights as well as the interests of the people they seek to enslave. It is time that democracy also showed its resolve to eliminate terrorists so that free society can resolve differences in true democratic spirit of freedom. Terrorism cannot be fought nor won by antagonizing other communities but by isolating and marginalizing blood thirsty terrorists. Unless political parties refrain from politicizing such tragedies and create division, terrorists would continue to foment communal hatred.
DailyDevotion The Spiritually Vigorous Saint …that I may know Him… —Philippians 3:10 A saint is not to take the initiative toward self-realization, but toward knowing Jesus Christ. A spiritually vigorous saint never believes that his circumstances simply happen at random, nor does he ever think of his life as being divided into the secular and the sacred. He sees every situation in which he finds himself as the means of obtaining a greater knowledge of Jesus Christ, and he has an attitude of unrestrained abandon and total surrender about him. The Holy Spirit is determined that we will have the realization of Jesus Christ in every area of our lives, and He will bring us back to the same point over and over again until we do. Self-realization only leads to the glorification of good works, whereas a saint of God glorifies Jesus Christ through his good works. Whatever we may be doing— even eating, drinking, or washing disciples’ feet— we have to take the initiative of realizing and recognizing Jesus Christ in it. Every phase of our life has its counterpart in the life of Jesus. Our Lord realized His relationship to the Father even in the most menial task. “Jesus, knowing…that He had come from God and was going to God,…took a towel…and began to wash the disciples’ feet…” (John 13:3-5). The aim of a spiritually vigorous saint is “that I may know Him…” Do I know Him where I am today? If not, I am failing Him. I am not here for self-realization, but to know Jesus Christ. In Christian work our initiative and motivation are too often simply the result of realizing that there is work to be done and that we must do it. Yet that is never the attitude of a spiritually vigorous saint. His aim is to achieve the realization of Jesus Christ in every set of circumstances.

The disaster of political management
T
he political life of the Nagas has been screwed up and down for the past few months. This has loosened the doors and windows of every department right down to every homes. The bolt and the screw do not match the show for some internal reason. That is why change of leadership has virulently attacked the local party again. But change of leadership will not bring the little mouse out of its hole. The mouse knows when to come out and go in. May be it is time for the public to think deep beyond this circumstance and event and see for oneself the reality of darkish political life in Nagaland. Always remember that change of leadership does not necessarily bring about change in the life of the public. Therefore, the public has a say in the political wave of the State. The wholesale cleaning of the team may seem to work better in this political dilemma. Shall we call this drama, the first phase of NBCC clean election campaign? Sometimes, we need to blame the Church for its ‘divide and rule policy.’ Even before the word ‘election’ is uttered from the mouth of the innocent public, there are churches which go around like ‘merry go’ only to bring greater disaster. If the Church is so worried about good system of election, it should intervene not for its own selfish gain, but for the general good of the public. The church has never strongly stood against the disaster of political management. It only go about roaring and mowing from place to place to make its presence felt among the Naga society. I believe that those who have pledged themselves for ‘Clean election’ will go to Kaziranga and pull out all the bosses to come back to Nagaland. That will be the first and best cleaning you can contribute for the welfare of Nagas. I am sure the trusted and reputed Naga Hoho, Naga Mothers Association, JCC and NSF will act wisely in this juncture for the sake of Nagas.

he world’s largest democracy is heading for election of a new President. A usual crowd of aspirants is already around with their details in the indirect election. Being a game of number the result could be guessed though the media is busy with field inputs and speculations. We had opted for Westminster type pattern from the Empire in which the PM calls the shots and the President is the figure head. It was not so. Long long ago Duke of Grafton sailed from London for Madras (Chennai) in 1769 with Warren Hastings the 2nd councilor at Cossimbazar Kothi in Bengal on board. He was 37 years old and a widower. A dozen years before he came as a Writer of John Company but the hot humid climate of the marshy land took away his wife Mary and one out of two daughters. He was destined to be the very first Governor General of British
The time has certainly come for the public to block Nagaland Gate so that no Ministers and MLAs go outside of Nagaland to discuss our internal problems. Failure in this work may worsen the situation of Nagaland. Yes, the notion seems foolish to many ears yet it will bring some relieve to some souls in Nagaland. The present generation of Nagas is blessed to see the turmoil of politics. May be its time that we clean the whole vessel of politics and cook some other curry which may taste better to feed Nagas to sustain their life for another day. Change of dish will bring about better health and digestion. There may be some Nagas who could not digest the present plate of rice because of some missing ingredients. Many appeals and complaints has been made verbally and also in black and white but the cooks (political leaders) in the kitchen failed to address such issues. That is why Nagas eat poor food and sleep on the floor whereas the cooks fattened himself inside the closed door of the kitchen. This is the reason why Nagas are becoming thin and slim only to be fit into the eye of a needle. No leader is to be blamed for this disaster for all Ministers and MLAs play the part of parting and welcoming. During this few months, there has been too many welcome and farewell in the Naga politics. Shall we allow this cyclone to go on? This life style may not be so healthy for it shakes and cuts the root of all walks of life. Without deep roots, even the best tree can dry up. Mind you, Nagas are drying up under the heat of political corruption and tragedy. If we do not stop this cyclone, the coming generation will live in the desert. The elected political leaders move from one party to another in view of the greater share that awaits them from the centre. This move has been affecting the life of the public for so long. Are Nagas happy to live under the torn roof ? We are
India with a two and a half lakh honorarium. Another passenger on board was Mrs. Imhoff, wife of Military advisor Baron Imhoff. She was a Bavarian beauty from Hydelburg in Germany. She too had interest like Hastings in contemporary English literature, poetry in particular and her conjugal life with the Baron was unhappy. After a stint at Madras, in February 1772 Hastings reached Chandpal ghat on Hooghly canal (Ganga river: Daily flower market). At nearby Fort William a 21 gun salute was sounded .His residence was inside the fort campus. The Baron too was posted to Calcutta and then transferred abroad and Mrs Imhoff never wanted to leave Calcutta so they separated. On August 8 1777 Reverend William Johnson solemnized the marriage between Hastings and Anna Maria (her maiden name)at Saint John’s Cathedral with all local dignitaries present.
not. May some young spiritual soul take over the political life of Nagas so that Nagas could gain better prospect of life. The stain of the present politics has been smeared all around. Hardly anyone is free from this pigment. What goes on in the politics affects the young and the old, the social and spiritual life. It is a sad note that we are all tossed upon by our elected members as flattened football. We have elected them as our anchor but they have turned us into nomads leaving nothing behind to depend on. The poor voters live in rags under the tyrant rulers. This is because even what belongs to us is taken away forcefully from our soft holy hands. Is this action not hurting you? Do you feel the pinch of life under selfish rulers? Did your precious vote made you feel proud because you are counted among those who can decide the fate of Nagas? Do you own your life or sold it to someone who thrashes you underfoot day and night? We need to rise about ourselves to make our dreams shine as a crown on our head. For this, good and efficient leaders must emerge to avail such opportunity to the public. There can be another uprising of the public if the Government does not believe in political stability. Off course those who shouted against T. R. Zeliang may not raise the same voice against Shürhozelie. The crowd knows whom to bark at and whom to please. The cunningness of the crowd also brings down rain and thunder from the clear sky. And Nagas are good for appeasing the tribal gods of war and hatred. Dear Naga brothers and sisters, let us not play the game of cheating ourselves. We must march forward with greater vision of life, a life where you will be treated as a living person and not a stone to be thrown into the sea of politics. Rev. Fr. G. L. Stop the poaching game
ncyclopædia Britannica, described poaching as being performed by impoverished peasants for subsistence purposes and a supplement for meager diets. Since the 1980s, the term “poaching” has also referred to the illegal harvesting of wild plant species. In agricultural terms, the term ‘poaching’ is also applied to the loss of soils or grass by the damaging action of feet of livestock which can affect availability of productive land. ‘Poaching’ in simple language can be defined as an illegally hunt or catch (game or fish) on land that is not one’s own or in contravention of official protection. The recent developments of ‘political poaching’ game played by the ‘very respected’ politicians of Nagaland is nothing short of an insult to the Naga populaces and the chairs and position these self-centered power mongering politicians holds. The game must be stopped at the earliest. How can a tree grow and bear fruits if it is constantly uprooted and keep transplanting it into another soil.? The logic is simple. For the ‘common Good’ either the tree itself has to uproot from its roots and burn it on the fire and new saplings are planted in place of it or the dramas are being silently watched. Either way the spectators are on the losing side. Can’t we just call enough is enough? In the words of Max Weber, “if the government cannot ensure the basic services it provides for people Such as security and stability and the possibility of procuring food and shelter, it losses the power to enforce laws and political instability ensues”. A climate of political stability, consensus and predictability is therefore a pre- requisite for not only socio-economic development but also the legitimacy and authority of any government. If this statement has to be followed, the present legislators of Nagaland and the Government thereupon has no longer holds the legitimacy to continue to form another government and the house has to be dissolved for fresh election or the president rule is imposed in the state. They should hold moral responsibility and resign from their position by allowing the Constitution to take its own course or the public has to make demand
Presidential election
The Irish Media pioneer who exposed scandals of the White officers and their Mem(M’aam)sahibs in and around Calcutta mentioned it in his Hickey’s Journal as the “event of the year” mentioning the widower and divorcee couple(made for each other). They shifted to Belvedre palace (Alipore). Like Clive House at suburban Dum Dum, locals maintain that the palace is haunted. At midnight duels are fought, horse driven phitons arrive and lady ghosts add to the mystery. T h e C h i e f Ju s t i c e Elizah Impey was a class friend of the GG at Sussexshire school back home so they did mischief together. Today’s Park Street was Impey’s private hunting ground for deer, wild boar etc. Raja Nand Kumar Comapany army commander became prominent after routing the French in their colony of Chandernagore (Chandannagar) and attracted GG’s
ire so he was prosecuted in the false forgery case and according to British law publicly hanged. He was a Brahmin so Brahmins left Calcutta en masse and went to the other bank of the river as a protest. And again he jailed Hickey for sedition and the person died there. However Warren Hastings would be remembered for arranging an English version of the Gita – prepared by a young Writer with Sanskrit pundits which was printed at London at company expense. Fed up with erratic rule of the Nawabs the Hindus accepted western education and system wholeheartedly. In 1785 he was recalled to Britain and impeached for his misdeeds. He died a pauper after spending all his money. The lady completed Hastings life history in rhyme. Before Adam, bipeds roamed on the Earth as savages what Adam was not and then God created Woman. It is
for their resignation. Meanwhile, the Kaziranga and other Oriental hideouts syndrome has deeply hurt the politico- economic situation of the state and has now made the Mockery of the democracy and so this madness has to be stopped at any cost. The right to development, political stability and consensus are the basic fundamental rights of the citizens in a democratic country. It is implicit under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. Article 356 of the Indian Constitution also vaguely mentioned about “the satisfaction of the president” for the imposition of the president Rule in the state. As a layman I Do not understand what the ‘satisfaction of the president’ means but if the president is for the people just like his “government is of the people, by the people, for the people” than surely he needs to intervene into these issues. Inadequate infrastructure development, rampant corruption, low human development indicators, public distribution leakages, rampant backdoor appointment and the unemployment of the deserving educated, faulty policy implementation etc are some other reasons for His Excellency to find his ‘satisfaction’ for the use of his power under Article 356 (Government of the state cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution since the government of the day has failed on every front.). It is understandable that the Constitution is supreme and it should also be made clear to all that the constitution is for the good of the people only. Manipulation of the Constitution by using its loopholes just for the sake of constitutionality for vested interests by any individuals or groups is a clear violation of the Constitution itself. So any such things must be better avoided by every right thinking citizens including the politicians. Bottom line is, all political parties and legislators must understand that politicians comes and go but the voters shall always prevail. And the voters are no longer happy over the entertainment provided by the well stage actors and dramabaazs of the Nagaland political parties. Kakugha Sumi Naga, Eralibill village (Khetoi), Dimapur

NSF clarifies on July 8 programme
To, Ninoto Awomi, SKK president, The undersigned while acknowledging your letter dated 08/07/17 would like to briefly state the sequence of event on the conduct of the Felicitation of HSLC Naga Toppers which coincided with the Tuluni festival. The executives of the NSF for the tenure 2017-19 were elected on 1st June, 2017 at Tzurangkong, Mokokchung. The handing of file proposed on 17th June, 2017 was overdue as two officials of NSF for the tenure 2015-17 went to attend the funeral programme of (Late) S. S Khaplang, Chairman NSCN (K) at Taka, Eastern Nagaland (Myanmar) who passed away on the 9th June, 2017. Due to the long distant and deplorable road conditions, the two officials return to its Oking only on 22nd
June, 2017 and the handing of files was done the next day itself, i.e. on 23rd June, 2017. With so many issues in hand, the 1st Executive Council Meeting was convened on 26thJune, 2017. Among the agendas, the house also discussed on the date for the Felicitation Programme for the Naga Toppers and taking the convenience of the students and also the first Saturday being too near, the house resolved to organize the programme on 2nd Saturday i.e the 8th July. The date chosen for the Felicitation Programme was not intentional to hurt the sentiments of Sumis in general and the SKK in particular. The executives chose the particular day as it is a general holiday for the students and the programme being a student’s programme the executive was
compelled to look at the convenience of the students who will be attending the programme. The NSF has been choosing Saturday as a convenient day for any kind of programme/event when it comes to students’ activities. On the 29th June, 2017 the programme along with the invitation was disseminated to all the Toppers, media and some of the well-wishers. On the 7th July, 2017 at around5:30 pm the office of the NSF received a complaint letter from the office of the SKK. Acknowledging the letter, an Emergency Official Meeting of the NSF was convened at 7 pm in the President’s Chamber. Whereby, the house resolved to organize the programme as scheduled on the morning of 8th July, 2017 and responded to the letter of the SKK on the same night i.e 7th July,
expressing its regrets for coinciding the Felicitation program with the Tuluni festival and cited the inability to postpone/defer the date since by then, it was rather too late, as all the toppers with their parents/guardian have reached Kohima from various districts and even those students pursuing their studies in other States. Moreover, the programme being exclusively organized to felicitate only the HSLC Naga Toppers (29 students) with a maximum time duration of 90 minutes session, it was resolved to conduct the same as scheduled. However, the Federation sincerely tender our regret and apology for hurting the sentiments of the Sumi community and look forward for your kind understanding to the matter. In tune with your editorial
Sir,
One night a woman was screaming piteously in her sleep. When asked what happened she said that in her dream some people were selling groups of human beings on a big measuring scale at cheap rates. “...And you were also in the group”, she told her husband, still sobbing. Yes, Mr. Editor Sir, in tune with your editorial July 10, Nagaland Post 2017, I would say that the day of reckoning is coming soon when people should choose real coins from fake ones. K.K. Earlier in June 2015, Dimapur district administration had issued a notification to close the RCC Steel Girder Bridge with effect from June 26. In the notification issued by officiating DC Dimapur, Elizabeth Ngully it was stated that all traffic (light motor vehicles as well as heavy vehicles) were to use the Patkai-New Showba road till an alternate arrangement was made by the concerned department. A joint verification of the bridge was also carried out by the district administration, commissioner of police, E.E. PWD (R&B) Dimapur on June 25. During verification, it was found that the bridge, originally designed for Class-B loading single lane constructed in the year 1986, was on the brink of collapse any time, which could result in the loss of lives. Diphupar Naga Youth Organization (DNYO) & Diphupar Students Union (DNSU) termed the in-
cident as “Criminal act” adding that the bridge had been left unattended for the past six to seven years despite appeals. They asked the government not to play blame game. They also informed that with the collapse of the bridge, no alternative road has been left for the public as well as for the students living on the other side of the bridge. DNYO further appealed the concerned department to look at the matter at the earliest. It may be pointed out that Nagaland Post had published reports about the rampant extraction of boulders and sand mining on the river bed. It was also suspected that due to rampant mining, the base of the pile had been compromised till the raging currents of river Chathe on Tuesday eventually caused it to tilt fatally.

(From p-1) Another demand of the JCC was tabling of the report of the Joint Inquiry Commission (JIC) constituted by the state government to probe into the January 31 police firing. Further, JCC entrusted Phom People’s Council to co-ordinate with the district administration on payment of compensation to the injured persons in Longleng during the January 31 police firing. Meanwhile, JCC has branded Naga legislators as “habitual visitors” of Kaziranga National Park, and questioned the legislators as to why they had to run to Kaziranga when the issues could have been settled in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. JCC therefore asked the Naga legislators to stop such practice saying “their visit to Kaziranga was at the cost of public exchequer.” It may be mentioned that the movement spearheaded by JCC and NTAC during January-February, against the ULB polls, had forced T.R. Zeliang to step down as the chief minister after two youths were killed in the police firing on January 31. The JCC however chose to remain tight-lipped on the issue. Even though JCC and NTAC were the force behind his ouster, the two bodies when asked did not wish to comment on the current crisis.

DOHA, JUL 11 (AGENCIES): U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday took his mission to break the deadlock between Qatar and four Arab states to the tiny, energy-rich nation at the heart of the dispute, putting pressure on the American allies to patch up their differences. LO N D O N, J U L 1 1 (AGENCIES): British Prime Minister Theresa May said Tuesday that she has to win a “battle of ideas’’ in Parliament and the country after losing her majority in last month’s election. In a speech both conciliatory and defiant, May urged her political opponents to contribute their “views and ideas’’ to help shape government policy. May spoke nearly a
year after taking office, and just over a month after she suffered a setback from voters in a June 8 snap election. She acknowledged that the election result was “not what I wanted,’’ but said she remained committed to building a fairer Britain as the country leaves the European Union. May was speaking at the launch of a report on how to guarantee protec-
tions for the growing number of workers in the “gig economy.’’ May became prime minister on July 13, 2016 through a Conservative Party leadership contest after predecessor David Cameron resigned when voters decided, against his advice, to quit the EU. She called an early election in an attempt to bolster her majority and strengthen her authority during Brexit talks.

and is the most powerful of the four countries lined up against it. Describing himself as a “friend to the region,” Tillerson expressed hope for progress in ending the standoff in brief remarks following a meeting with 37-year-old Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He also gave besieged Qatar some political backing ahead of talks in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. “I think Qatar has been quite clear in its posi-
tions and I think very reasonable,” he said. Tillerson, a former oilman with years of experience in the oil-rich region, began his Gulf visit Monday by meeting Kuwait’s ruler, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah. The Kuwaiti leader has been acting as a mediator between Qatar and the quartet of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. The four nations broke off relations with Qatar and cut air, sea and land routes with it in early June and have accused Qatar of supporting extremist groups. They later issued a 13-point list of demands to restore relations and gave Doha 10 days to comply. The demands include Qatar shutting down news outlets, including the media network Al-Jazeera, cutting ties with Islamist groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood, limiting ties with Iran and expelling Turkish troops stationed in the country.

WASHINGTON, JUL 11 (AFP): A US military aircraft has crashed in the southern state of Mississippi, killing 16 people, US media has reported. The US Marine Corps confirmed that a “mishap” involving a KC-130 occurred in the evening, without providing additional details. The Clarion-Ledger newspaper and CNN cited Leflore County emergency management director Fred Randle as confirming the death toll of 16. All 16 victims were on the Marine Corps aircraft and there were no survivors, Randle told CNN. The incident took place around 4 pm (2100 GMT), the Clarion-Ledger said, noting that firefighters sprayed the aircraft with huge layers of foam to quell the fire. The plane crashed in a soybean field on the Sunflower-Leflore county line, the paper said.

nesty. The report, which covers the first five months of this year, noted how IS fighters moved civilians with them around the city, preventing them from escaping, creating battle spaces with dense civilian populations while “Iraqi forces and the U.S.-led coalition failed to adapt their tactics.” The Iraqi forces and the U.S.-led coalition “continued to use imprecise, explosive weapons with wide area effects in densely populated urban environments,” Amnesty stated, adding that some violations may constitute war crimes. On Monday evening, Prime Minister Haider alAbadi came to Mosul for the second day in a row to declare “total victory,” flanked by his senior military leadership at a small base on the edge of the Old City.

MOSUL, JUL 11 (AGENCIES): Sporadic clashes erupted in Mosul on Tuesday, a day after Iraq’s prime minister declared “total victory” over the Islamic State group, with several airstrikes hitting the Old City neighborhood that was the scene of the fierce battle’s final days. Plumes of smoke rose into the air as IS mortar shells landed near Iraqi positions and heavy gunfire could be heard on the western edge of the Old City. At times heavy, the clashes underscored the dangers still posed by the militants after Iraqi forces announced they retook full control of Mosul, the country’s second-largest city, three years after it was seized by extremists bent on building a global caliphate. Nate Deezy to Dave Mustaine ranks his ‘See You Again’ becomes perform at ‘Passion Crusade 2017’ favorite Megadeth guitarists most watched in YouTube D P ave Mustaine recently ranked his favorite MEGADETH guitarists in descending order, with the last one being his least favorite. The Megadeth leader’s list — which he tweeted in late April — does not include the band original second guitarist Greg Handevidt — who was in the band only in 1983 — nor Slayers’s Kerry King, who was only in Megadeth as a touring guitarist for several gigs in 1984, but it does include Mike Albert, who toured with the group as a temporary replacement for Chris Poland in 1985. Mustaine’s list: 1. Kiko Loureiro: Has been in Megadeth since early 2015. He performed on the band’s latest album, 2016’s “Dystopia”. 2. Marty Friedman: Was in the band from 1990 to 2000. He performed on 1990’s “Rust In Peace”, 1992’s “Countdown To Extinction”, 1994’s “Youthanasia”, 1995’s “Hidden Treasures”, 1997’s “Cryptic Writings” and 1999’s “Risk” albums. 3. Glen Drover: Was in the band from 2004 to 2008. He performed on 2007’s “United Abominations” album. 4. Chris Poland: Was in the band from 1984 to
1987, and then again as session musician in 2004. He performed on 1985’s “Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!”, 1986’s “Peace Sells... But Who’s Buying?” and 2004’s “The System Has Failed” albums. 5. Al Pitrelli: Was in the band from 2000 to 2002. He performed on 2001’s “The World Needs A Hero” album. 6. Mike Albert: Was in the band as a touring member only, having temporarily replaced Chris Poland on a 1985 tour. He does not appear on any of the Megadeth albums. 7. Chris Broderick: Was in the band from 2008 to 2014. He can be heard on 2009’s “Endgame”, 2011’s “Th1rt3en” and 2013’s “Super Collider” albums. 8. Jeff Young: Was in MEGADETH from 1987 to 1989. He performed on 1988’s “So Far, So Good... So What!” album. A short time after Kiko Loureiro joined Megadeth, Mustaine praised the Brazilian musician, calling him “definitely the best guitarist we’ve ever had.” Mustaine’s comments echoed those he made about Broderick during the latter’s tenure in the band. sy’s Gangnam Style is no longer the mostwatched video on YouTube. The South Korean megahit had been the site’s most-played clip for the last five years. The surreal video became so popular that it “broke” YouTube’s play counter, exceeding the maximum possible number of views (2,147,483,647), and forcing the company to rewrite its code. But the song has now been overtaken by another music video - Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s See You Again. The heart-wrenching ballad has now been streamed 2,895,373,709 times; beating Psy’s current count of 2,894,426,475 views. Adding it up, that means See You Again has been streamed for a total of 21,759 years. If one person was to listen to each of those streams consecutively, they’d have to have started during the glacial peak of the last Ice Age. “I joined YouTube in 2007 hoping to make a video that would reach 10,000 views,” wrote Charlie Puth on Twitter. “Just heard about See You Again... Wow.” The song was written for the action movie Furious 7, playing over the closing credits in tribute to the actor
Paul Walker, who died in a car accident before the film was completed. With its unabashedly sentimental lyrics (“it’s been a long day without you my friend/ And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again”), See You Again has become one of the most frequently requested pop songs at funerals in the UK. It was the best-selling song worldwide in 2015, and

ccording to The Pulse Of Radio, Red hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith was asked by podcaster Eddie Trunk on how much longer he thinks the band can continue, 33 years after releasing their first album. Smith replied: “We were riding in a van after a gig and [bassist] Flea was, like, ‘How much longer do you think we should... How do you think we should end this?’ [Laughs] I was, like, ‘I don’t know!’ I want to make records, I still love making records, but the touring part… I don’t know if we can continue.” Smith added: “I mean, three of us are 54 years old — Anthony [Kiedis, singer], me and Flea. Josh [Klinghoffer, guitarist] is 38 or 39, so he’s a young man. But I don’t know if we can continue to do the long tours — the year, year and a half we normally do. That’s a good question.” Smith hinted that for their next album cycle, the Chili Peppers could adopt a similar schedule as Metallica, who limit themselves to around 50 shows a year. The drummer continued: “We all have families and different things, your priorities shift a little bit. You kinda see that what’s gonna work for you maybe doesn’t necessarily work for other bands.”
Smith concluded: “But again, we’re just so grateful that people want to come and see us play, and we love to perform. I don’t know in the future how that’s gonna look.” Smith told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that he never imagined his career would go as far as it has. “Never in my wildest dreams if you had come up to me and said, ‘Hey, you know, you’re gonna move to California and join the Chili Peppers and then 25

received best song nominations at both the Grammys and the Oscars. The music video features the final scene of Furious 7, in which the two main characters Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Cody Walker, filling in for his brother, Paul), drive side-by-side, sharing a smile for the last time before they pull onto separate roads and drive into
the sunset. As the camera pans up into the sky, a title card reads “For Paul” and the video ends. The video reached 1 billion views in six months, and hit 2 billion last September. However, its reign as YouTube’s most-watched clip may be short-lived. Luis Fonsi’s summer smash Despacito has racked up 2.5 billion views in just six months, and it shows no signs of slowing down. The Puerto Rican song - sung in a mixture of Spanish and English - has been number one in the UK for the last eight weeks, thanks in part to a remix featuring Justin Bieber. Whoever takes the title, though, its good news for Universal Music, which owns all of the songs. Meanwhile, 47 of the top 50 clips on YouTube are music videos, proving the importance of the streaming site to the music industry - despite the fact the two sides are locked in a battle over royalty payments. According to analysis by Midia Research, every stream on YouTube generates $0.001 for the music industry. If accurate, that means Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s song has earned $2.9m (£2.2m) from YouTube roughly the same amount it has made from 665 million plays on Spotify.

No decision yet on new coach: BCCI
New Delhi, Jul 11 (IANS): Reacting to widespread media reports that Ravi Shastri has been appointed India coach, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday refused to confirm or deny the reports, saying a final decision will be taken shortly. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the BCCI - comprising former captains Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and veteran batting star V.V.S. Laxman - has been directed by the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) to announce the new India team coach on Tuesday. “No final decision on coach as yet, as three CAC members are still deliberating and talking to each other,” BCCI Acting Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary told the media on Tuesday. “The CAC is still deliberating, formal announcement could be made later.” Earlier, the enire media was abuzz with reports that Shastri has been handed a second term as the head coach of the Indian team. A veteran of 80 Tests and 150 One-Day Internationals (ODI), the 55year-old Shastri had earlier served as the Team Director for India’s tour of England
in 2014 to the 2016 World T20, where India lost to the eventual champions West Indies. Shastri was overlooked last year and the CAC picked celebrated spinner and former skipper Anil Kumble for a one-year term. That term unfortunately ended on a controversial note after the last month’s ICC Champions Trophy in England. Shastri had initially not applied for the coach’s post but when the BCCI extended the deadline for accepting applications till July 9, he jumped into the fray. Besides Shastri, the CAC on Monday interviewed four other candidates -- explosive India opener Virender Sehwag, Sri Lanka’s former Australian coach Tom Moody, Pakistan’s former coach Richard Pybus from England, and India’s former manager Lalchand Rajput. Former West Indies coach Phil Simmons wasn’t available for the interview process. The CAC wanted to postpone the announcement of the new coach’s appointment as they wanted to consult India skipper Virat Kohli on the issue, but the Committee of Administrators later directed them to speed up the process and finalise the issue by Tuesday.

S A N J UA N, J u l 1 1 (Agencies): An independent review of the scoring in Manny Pacquiao’s contentious WBO welterweight world title loss to Jeff Horn has confirmed the outcome in favor of the Australian former schoolteacher. A Philippines government department asked the WBO to review the refereeing and the judging of the so-called “Battle of Brisbane” in Australia on July 2 after Horn, fighting for his first world title, won a unanimous points decision against Pacquiao, an 11-time world champion. In a statement, the WBO said three of the five independent judges who reviewed the bout awarded it to Horn, one awarded it to Pacquiao and one scored a draw. WBO president Francisco Valcarcel asked the judges, who came from different countries and remained anonymous, to assign their own scores to

rounds, saying the results would be tabulated to ascertain which rounds each fighter won using an average scale based on 100, 80 and 60 percent. Based on the analysis, the WBO said Pacquiao won the third, eighth and ninth rounds by 100 percent, the fifth round by 80 percent and the 11th by 60 percent. Horn was given the first, sixth and 12th rounds by 100 percent, the second, fourth and seventh by 80 percent and the 10th by 60 percent.
Sanchez going nowhere, insists Wenger S Y D N E Y, J u l 1 1 (Agencies): Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger on Tuesday insisted unsettled striker Alexis Sanchez is going nowhere, saying he expected him honour his contract and potentially sign an extension. The Chilean, 28, has a year left on his Gunners deal but is yet to sign a new contract and has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich and Manchester City. Rooney keen on England return after Everton switch L ondon , J u l 1 1 (Agencies): Everton forward Wayne Rooney is eager to revive his England career after losing his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad earlier this year. Rooney last played for the Lions in the World Cup qualifier against Scotland in November. The 31-yearold is hopeful of a different scenario after re-joining his boyhood club. “I love playing for England,” Rooney told reporters on Monday.
“Of course Gareth had to make a decision... I wasn’t playing the football that I like and I don’t think you should play for your country if you are not playing for your club.” “He told me that, if I get back playing every week, then the door is still open. I want to play for England. I am focused on Everton, getting back playing and doing well and, if I do well, Gareth Southgate will have a decision to make.”
is a continuation of what I said at the end of the season. That’s what we will do. He adds great value to the squad and I think as well he is a great lover of the club.” Sanchez, who at times last season cut a disgruntled figure as Arsenal struggled with form and uncertainty over Wenger’s future, is not on the team’s pre-season tour to Australia as he rests after last month’s Confederation’s Cup. But Wenger said reports that the Chilean ace had informed him that he wanted to leave the club were not true, replying with a curt “No”.
He added, “I think the easiest way to manage a player is in the final year of his contract. It is in his interest to do as well as he can.” “Nobody knows today if Sanchez will be on his final year of his contract next season, because he can extend his contract with us at the start of the season or during the season. So it is not necessarily the last year of his contract at Arsenal Football Club.” Arsenal play two preseason friendlies in Sydney this week, against Sydney FC on Thursday and Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday.
“From the results, it can be established that Pacquiao won 5 rounds while Horn won 7 rounds,” the WBO statement said. A further step of combining the independent judge’s scores for each round with the bout judge’s scores for each round also confirmed a win for Horn, the WBO said. The Philippines Games and Amusements Board (GAB) last week urged a review, saying it wanted to protect the integrity of the sport.

I showed him and he was not very pleased about it,” said Djokovic. “The courts are not great this year and many of the players feel the same. I am sure the groundsmen are the best in the world, but grass is the most complex surface to maintain. I have played on better courts.” Djokovic needed treatment on his right shoulder after the fifth game of the third set and a medical timeout at 4-3 to treat the same problem. He had already summoned the doctor after just three games of the opening set. Djokovic will face the Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych on Wednesday for a semi-final spot, boasting a 25-2 career record over the 2010 Wimbledon runnerup.
