In a press release, the dean of college of veterinary sciences & animal husbandry, Jalukie (CAU, Imphal), Peren district stated Veterinary Clinical Complex, located at Jalukie colony has lately been receiving a number of cases. The dean stated that since there was no antiviral drug, the affected puppy or dog has to be given supportive therapy mainly intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration and antibiotics to prevent secondary infections. DIMAPUR, JAN 6 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K.Therie reiterated his party’s peaceful resolution to the political problem in Nagaland was consistent , while welcoming Niki Sumi-led NSCN(K) decision to join the peace process as there was always room for those who subscribe to peaceful solution. Stressing on the need for peaceful resolution through dialogue, Therie however held “deliberate loose Cease Fire Ground Rules(CFGR)” as responsible for illegal collection and extortions that have been etched with a history of assassinations, shootings, kidnappings and ransom, bank robberies, rapes and intimidations. He said while public bore the brunt of the loose CFGR, the government of the day gave full facilitation. In view of this, he said public in general have come out without reservation for peaceful solution while being muted about demand for sovereignty. Therie said the situation took a ‘U-turn’ as people now seek protection

DIMAPUR, JAN 6 (NPN): The forest fire, that has devastated large tracts of the scenic Dzükou valley, was reportedly spreading towards the North side. Giving an update on the status of fire during the review meeting, DC Kohima Mohammed Ali Shihab said that the fire was moving towards the North in Dzükou Valley as reported by Indian Air Force pilots. More fire line cutting has been planned in Dzükou Valley as part of the operation to contain the raging fire, besides increasing the number of sorties under-

taken by India Air Force (IAF) helicopters. For this, the State government was awaiting response from the Defence ministry to requisition additional helicopters to carry out Bambi bucket operations. The State government has also decided to strengthen the ongoing operation by deploying more personnel at ground zero while the Centre has also despatched three additional teams of the National Disaster Response Force to Nagaland on Wednesday. In a tweet, PRO (De-

from Indian security forces out of fear of “our own Naga national workers”. Reaffirming that the Congress always endeavoured to resolve problems through peaceful constitutional means, Therie recalled that Nehru offered peace talks while Indira Gandhi held six rounds of direct talks with FGN delegates. He also said Rajiv Gandhi had also offered to hold talks without precondition on May 19,1991 while Narasimha Rao also offered talks without preconditions on February 22, 1996 at Dimapur. Therie further said talks with NSCN(I-M) began in July 1997 as then chief minister Dr.S.C.Jamir announced the cease fire on July 25,1997 that came into effect from August 1,1997. He said past historical realities had made a difference. He said the Framework Agreement signed on August 3,2015 was like a guiding light for solution and also expressed happiness that NNPGs and the government of India also signed the Agreed Position on November 17,2017. Therie said

solution in Nagaland was on the pipeline and after apprising the AICC high powered committee about the present status on September 25,2020, it has also agreed to support. Therie said the matter that remained to be resolved was with Manipur and called upon Manipur Nagas to “be honest to Nagaland people as brothers and sisters”. He reminded that after signing of the 16 Point Agreement for statehood, R.C.Chiten Jamir, had attended a meeting at Ukhrul on whether Nagas of Manipur wished to be integrated with the new Nagaland state. Therie said at the meeting, “Manipur Nagas have rejected” the invitation. Then secondly, he said when Naga leaders from Manipur became chief minister, “they were the ones who announced that not an inch of land will be parted.” Therie said it was felt that “time will be amended but even in the Framework Agreement, the question of integration was non-issue.” He said Nagas in Manipur should resolve differences if (Cont’d on p-8) any.

The current bird flu outbreak comes few months after India on September 30, 2020, declared the country free from the disease. India notified the first outbreak of Avian Influenza in 2006. Speaking to PTI, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Secretary Atul Chaturvedi said there is no need to panic and efforts are on to contain the spread of the infection. As of now, the spread of bird flu is in four states, while Haryana is on “high alert”, he added. The secretary said advisories have been issued to state governments to contain further spread of the infection in poultry ducks, crows and migratory birds. “After confirmation of positive samples from ICAR-NIHSAD (National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases), Avian Influenza has been reported at 12 epicentres,” the ministry said in a statement.

Further, the ministry said that some samples of crow from Kale Hanumanji Forest Nakka, Jaipur, Rajasthan have been found positive for bird flu. “Unusual moralities have been found in 7111 domestic birds in Haryana, 150 wild birds in Madhya Pradesh, 10 crows in Gujarat, 336 migratory birds in Himachal Pradesh today,” it added. The ministry said the disease spreads mainly by migratory birds coming into India during winter months from September-October to February-March. The secondary spread by human handling (through fomites) cannot be ruled out.
