WG said ongoing political negotiations were held as assured by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, home minister, Rajnath Singh and Interlocutor, R.N. Ravi that the issue must be solved through political negotiations. WG said to ensure enduring solution to the more than 70-year old conflict, “a mere pause to the periodic elections in Nagaland, a demand of Naga people, will not destroy the world’s largest democracy”. WG maintained that the battle was not an electoral battle but a contest “between a people, a nation involved in a political negotiation” for the future of the younger generations to live in honour and “a few corrupt, opiated destructive politicians seeking to harness wealth and power for themselves.” WG concluded that by using democratic exercise as a tool and heeding the “insane utterances of chameleon-like Naga politicians” the government of India had failed the Nagas again.

Ranchi, Jan 24 (IANS) A special CBI court on Wednesday sentenced former Bihar Chief Ministers Lalu Prasad and Jagannath Mishra to five years in prison in a fodder scam case and slapped a fine of Rs 10 lakh on the former and Rs 5 lakh on the latter. The special Central Bureau of Investigation court Judge S.S. Prasad pronounced the judgment related to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 33.67 crore from the Chaibasa Treasury in 1992-1993. The special CBI court has convicted 50 people and acquitted six in this case. This is third case in the fodder scam in which the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief has been convicted, while it is the second for Mishra. The CBI judge pronounced the quantum of sentence at 2 p.m. The court slapped two fines of Rs 5 lakh against Lalu and a Rs 5 lakh fine on Mishra. Earlier at 11 a.m., Lalu Prasad was brought to the CBI court from the Birsa Munda Central Jail, where he has been lodged since January 6 following his conviction on December 23, 2017 for three and half years in a
and other “splinter groups” and therefore the regional party was fully prepared to respond accordingly when the right time came. To a media query, Imchen said he would extend full support to any organisation and stand in the forefront without any hesitation for postponement of the election in favour of a solution, asserting that he wished to see the future generation “liberated” and living as “dignified citizens”. He recalled that the Naga issue was earlier looked after by Union Home ministry, which the Nagas had interpreted as a sign of sincerity and committeemen to bring the vexed Naga political issue to an early and amicable settlement. Imchen said Indian National Congress thought that keeping the issue pending for 65 years was their success story, even though the Nagas never agreed to this policy.
In Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai, it cost Rs 66.04, Rs 67.50 and Rs 66.84 a litre respectively. Diesel is widely used to transport goods including food products. Experts say this will push up inflation. Several factors like production curbs by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and high demand have led to a surge in crude oil prices. As on January 24, price of the Brent crude oil hovered around $70 a barrel. Also, daily price revision in India allows for a rise in domestic fuel prices in accordance with international trends. The earlier system of price determination of petrol had a waiting period of 15 days. On the other hand, imposition of state taxes and levies generally hikes prices. Currently, the two fuels do not come under the ambit of the Goods and Services Tax.

fodder scam case related to the Deoghar Treasury. After convicting the accused the CBI court asked whether argument on quantum of sentence should take place on Wednesday or an-
other date be fixed. Lalu Prasad’s lawyer requested to hear the argument on the day itself and requested a minimum punishment citing health grounds. In this case the CBI had filed its charge sheet in 2001. Talking to reporters, Lalu’s son Tejashwi Yadav said: “This is not the final court. We will move the High Court.” RJD chief was convicted in the fodder scam case for the first time in 2013 and was awarded five years imprisonment. The multi-million fodder scam case surfaced in the undivided Bihar in the 1990s. A Patna HC directive ordered the case probe to be handed over to the CBI. The allegation against Lalu is that he ignored the scam reports in his capacity as the Finance Minister.

India, Myanmar discuss ties amid Rohingya crisis New Delhi, Jan 24 (IANS): Amid the Rohingya refugee crisis, India and Myanmar on Wednesday discussed ties in a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi here. “The two leaders had a productive discussion on intensifying bilateral cooperation, including follow up on key decisions taken during Prime Minister’s visit to Myanmar in September 2017,” External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted. The meeting assumes significance in the wake of the exodus of Rohingya refugees from the Rakhine state in Myanmar to Bangladesh since August last year. However, Myanmar authorities said on Tuesday that they are ready to initiate a gradual repatriation

The crisis erupted on August 25, 2017 following an attack by a Rohingya insurgent group that led to a violent response by the Myanmar Army in Rakhine state. New Delhi has also sent relief material for the refugees in both Rakhine and Bangladesh. India is also an important development aid partner for Myanmar and has committed to provide grantin-aid assistance amounting to almost Rs 4,000 crore (of total commitment of over $1.7 billion). DIMAPUR, JAN 24 (NPN): All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) Dimapur unit has warned that it will take stern action against taxi drivers that charge higher than the government prescribed fares.
