DIMAPUR, JAN 17 (NPN): Nagaland Chief Minister (CM), T. R Zeliang and Minister for PWD (National Highways), Y. Vikheho Swu have solicited the public’s support for the various developmental projects in the state. They were speaking at the launching programme of the improvement of the city portion of Dimapur city (KM 106.90 to Km 124.20) on National Highway (NH) 29, held at Purana Bazaar junction, Dimapur, where the CM also unveiled the foundation stone for the project. In his speech, CM said that two-laning of the 4.4 km road from New Field Check gate to Zion Hospital and the four-laning of the 12.90 km road from Zion hospital to Chumukedima will be paved with cement for a better quality concrete road, and has a contract value of Rs. 509.08 crores. Official sources said Nagaland was likely to go to polls on March 2. The five-year term of the assembly in Nagaland will expire on March 13.

State gets `79.7 cr drainage project D I M A P U R , JA N 1 7 (NPN): Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has sanctioned a drainage project worth Rs.79.7 crore for Nagaland under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme. “A Drainage project worth Rs.79.7 crore has sanctioned for #Nagaland,” AMRUT posted a tweet Wednesday. It also stated that urban mobility projects worth Rs.22 crore were under implementation in Nagaland.

DIMAPUR, JAN 17 (NPN): Following the reports of NPF severing ties with BJP in Nagaland, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Wednesday accused the NPF of “double standard talk to fool the voters in Nagaland once again and cover up their failures.” NPCC through its media cell asserted that both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members were still supporting the BJP-led NDA government at the centre as well as in Manipur. Congress claimed that very recently RS member, KG Kenye, and minister, Kuzholuzo Nienu, assured BJP president, Amit Shah, to continue their 40 years alliance. Recalling NPF resolution to sever ties with BJP adopted in July 2017, the NPCC said reaffirmation of July 19, 2017 resolution on January 16, 2018 was “laced with an intent to hoodwink

voters.” Congress insisted that both LS and RS members withdraw their support to the BJP and sit in the opposition bench with Congress in the Parliament if there was any truth in the abrogation of ties with BJP. “They should also withdraw from BJP Ministry in Manipur state,” NPCC stated. Zeliang and NPF president and ex-CM Dr.Shürhozelie Lieziestu patched up in December 2017 and the BJP continuing as part of the DAN government. The Central Office Bearers (COB) of the NPF held a meeting on January 15, 2018 in Kohima where the issue figured and also as reported in sections of the local press. Reacting to the reports appearing in sections of the local press, that NPF had reaffirmed its earlier July 18 decision to sever ties with BJP, NPF Press & Media Bureau (M&PB) said the reports were “mischievous” since the only conclusion made by COB was to refer it back to the CEC and for which the meeting empowered NPF

Resolved to urge upon all party rank and file to “bury the past differences” and come together in a true spirit of reconciliation for the betterment and upliftment of the party.

NEW DELHI, JAN 17 (AGENCIES): The Supreme Court on Wednesday started the final hearing on a batch of petitions challenging the validity of the Aadhaar system. The petitioners told the five-judge Constitution bench in the Supreme Court on Wednesday that the Aadhaar data base “tends to terrorise citizens with the country becoming a totalitarian regime” as there is “no free consent in furnishing biometric information for Aadhaar.” Senior Supreme Court lawyer Shyam Divan, appearing for the petitioners, said that Aadhaar will cause the death of civil rights and transform a people’s Constitution into a State’s Constitution. Former UIDAI chairman Nandan Nilekani, however, defended the system again saying that India’s achievement with the Aadhaar is in itself a revolution. In August, 2017, a ninejudge bench of SC had held that Right to Privacy was a Fundamental Right under the Constitution. Several petitioners challenging the validity of Aadhaar had also claimed it violated privacy rights.

New Delhi, Jan 17 (AGENCIES): By February 1,2018 when e-way bill comes into effect in several states, transporters will not need separate transit passes for moving goods from one state to another as the e-way bill issued to them will be valid throughout India. These electronic bills can be generated from the GSTN portal. The e-way bill system was introduced under the Goods and Services Tax , but couldn’t be implemented earlier as the required IT infrastructure wasn’t in place. E-way bill is a mechanism to ensure that goods being transported comply with the GST Law and is an effective tool to track movement of goods and check tax evasion. Under the Goods and Services Tax rolled out from July last year, inter-state movement of goods beyond 10 kms, with a value of

GSTN CEO Prakash Kumar said: “Taxpayers and transporters need not visit any tax office or check post as the e-way Bill can be generated electronically in a self-service mode. “The new system enables generation of e-Way bill on the portal, through mobile App, through SMS and for large users using offline tool.” The e-way bill system has already been rolled out in four states -- Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Kerala. These states together generate nearly 1.4 lakh e-way bills per day. “The remaining states will join during next fortnight. The period up to January 31,2018 will be used as trial period for all stakeholders,” GSTN said in a statement. It said transporters who want to generate e-way

Also, if a transporter faces detention of more than 30 minutes, he can upload a report on the portal Rules, Notification, User Manual, FAQs and Computer based tutorials (CBTs) are available online. GSTN has invited suggestions from stakeholders on the e-way bill system. The e-way bill can also be generated or cancelled through SMS, he said. When an e-way bill is generated, a unique e-way bill number (EBN) is allocated and is available to the supplier, recipient, and the transporter, he added. Trade and transporters can start using this system on a voluntary basis from January 16.

DIMAPUR, JAN 17 (NPN): A Naga Hoho delegation has reportedly left for New Delhi to apprise the government of India for postponement of the general elections 2018. In a press release, Naga Hoho vice president, H.K. Zhimomi, and assembly secretary, K. Elu Ndang, said it was, however, learnt that threemember team from Election Commission of India (ECI) was currently in Nagaland to oversee the election preparedness. In this regard, the NH has appealed to the election commission “not to impose Indian Election” at this juncture. Rather, the hoho urged the commission to understand the ground reality and convince the government of India to postpone the election. Scientific rubber tapping and processing trg ends DIMAPUR: Four-day “scientific rubber tapping and processing for IWMP-1 (batch-1)” training was organised from January 9-12 at Lilen village by department of land resources in collaboration with the rubber board regional office, Dimapur. According to DIPR report, the training covered eight villages including Lilen, Phaijol, Vongkithem, Inbung, Peilhang, Bongkolong, New Beisumpui and New Chalkot. In the training, resource person, Arup Gogoi, from rubber board regional office, demonstrated the scientific method of rubber tapping and processing. In the closing ceremony, guest of honour, Kuki Inpi president, L. Gante, urged the participants to minimize the practice of jhum cultivation. He advised them to take up plantation of rubber and other commercial crops for their sustainability. Kukis have equal right and participation: Neiphiu Rio

DIMAPUR: Neiphiu Rio said that Kukis have equal right, equal participation to Naga history because they live in the Naga Hills regardless of being a minority among Nagas on January 17 at Molvum village. IMPHAL, Jan 17: Manipur police Wednesday prevented hundreds of scheme workers (Anganwadi, ASHA and Mid-day Meal) from taking out a rally in Imphal, who attempted to march towards chief minister’s bungalow demanding for their rights. IMPHAL, Jan 17: Affected villagers have strongly opposed the move of the Manipur government to inaugurate Mapithel dam in March. Mapithel dam is a mega dam on Thoubal River Valley Multipurpose project to be implemented in Mapithel area in Phungyar subdivision of Ukhrul district with a target to irrigate 21,000 hectares of cultivable land besides giving 10 million gallons of drinking water every day and supply 7.5 MW of power. The construction of the dam which began in 1989, with irrigation components has been completed, and state government planned to commission the project during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit in March this year. NEW DELHI, JAN 17 (PTI): Expressing concern over the open sale of army apparel and gear, the Delhi High Court today pulled up the Centre for not taking the issue seriously and asked the Delhi government to take steps to curb the sale and manufacture of such items. The bench said the Centre does not seem to be interested in doing anything despite seriousness of the issue which has its implications on “state security and public safety”. The court made the observations in the backdrop of recent terror strikes, including the one of the Pathankot airforce base in January 2016 by terrorists dressed in Indian Army fatigues, leading to the death of seven security personnel including a Lieutenant Colonel and a civilian. In November 2016 too, terrorists dressed in police uniform had attacked the army’s XVI Corps headquarters at Nagrota in Jammu district, killing seven security personnel including two officers. and C Hari Shankar directed the Delhi government to take immediate steps to curb private manufacturing, stocking and sale of military apparel and gear used by the armed forces. It asked the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to forthwith take action to comply with several government communications in this regard, dating back to 1986-99. noting that despite there being a penal provision to punish those wearing or carrying tokens used by soldiers, not a single action has been taken. India’s first woman Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Sukhoi Su-30 MKI on Wednesday. JODHPUR, JAN 17 (IANS): India’s first woman Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday donned an olive green flight suit to fly in Indian Air Force’s frontline aircraft, Sukhoi Su-30 MKI -- an indigenously-built twin-engine fighter jet capable of carrying out nuclear strikes. The supersonic jet piloted by Group Captain Sumit Garg carrying Sitharaman took off from the Air Force station here in Rajasthan. She was seen seated in the cockpit for the

40-minute sortie. The Minister told the media that she felt “very proud and thankful” to the Air Force for letting her have the experience of flying in a fighter craft. “It actually tells me with what rigor, practice, what level of readiness and how quickly they (defence personnel) have to respond to situations. It was eyeopening and memorable,” Sitharaman said. With this, Sitharaman became the second Indian woman leader to fly in a

Sukhoi-30 jet. Earlier, then President Pratibha Patil had flown in the fighter in 2009. Sitharaman donned a helmet with oxygen mask and wore a flight overall and a G-Suit, also called anti-gravity suit -- worn by pilots for comfort when the jet takes turns. The Minister tweeted her pictures familiarizing herself with the fighter aircraft before taking off. The Sukhoi SU-30 MKI is a multi-role fighter developed by Russia’s Sukhoi and built under licence by India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. In November 2017, India successfully flight-tested the air variant of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the fighter jet. After taking over as Defence Minister in September, Sitharaman has been visiting Army, Air Force and Naval bases frequently. She was onboard the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya in the Arabian Sea to witness the operations of the MiG-29 fighter on the deck of the carrier.

Doctor found dead in his rented flat

NEW DELHI, JAN 17 (PTI): A 28-yearold doctor hailing from Tamil Nadu was found dead at his rented flat in northeast Delhi’s Shahdara today, the police said. The deceased, Sharath Prabhu, was a student of PG medicine at GTB Hospital. He was staying in the flat with two others and around 11.30 pm last night the trio had dinner, police said. Prabhu was found

unconscious outside the washroom of the apartment around 7 am by his flatmates, who rushed him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police said an injection, the contents of which will have to be examined, was found in the room of the deceased. His flatmates are being questioned. He belongs to Coimbatore and was staying here since May 2017.

Modi’s bold policy

n true Narendra Modi style, there is a lot of optics in the meetings with various visiting heads of state as with the current honoured guest from Israel –prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife- who are on an official 6-day visit to India. Modi is a demanding prime minister who is known to be very particular about details. Unlike other past prime ministers, Modi has given his guests a touch of his originality. He gave Chinese President Xi Jinping a glimpse of Gujarati culture sitting on a swing by the Sabarmati river during his 3-day visit to India in 2014; then hosted US president Obama’s second visit in 2015 as chief guest at the Republic Day programme with a chai per charchai. Modi followed up by taking visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2015 (his second visit) to the banks of the Ganga at Varanasi. Modi has not stuck to text book protocols while welcoming guests. He personally receives them and also takes great care to ensure they experience the culture of the land. The present visit of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu reflects the great bonhomie between the two prime ministers. Unlike most British battles in the region, the one at Haifa was fought by cavalry regiments of the Indian Maharajas and not the British army. The Teen Murti Chowk and the Teen Murti Marg will henceforth be known as the ‘Teen Murti Haifa Chowk’ after the Israeli city of Haifa. The three statues that is the focal point of the Teen Murti Chowk, often misinterpreted as having connections with Mahatma Gandhi, are in fact a symbol of tribute to three famous Indian state forces who were part of the British imperial service cavalry brigade during the First World War, and had played a crucial role in overcoming Ottoman rule in Israel. Israel is rightly grateful to Narendra Modi for taking the bold step in becoming the first Indian prime minister to visit Israel. Other past prime ministers of India had shown the typical character of running with the hare and hunting with the hound over Israel vis-a-vis Muslim countries. Relations further expanded during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, with India abstaining from voting against Israel in the United Nations in several resolutions. However on one occasion, India did vote against Israel at the UN General Council over the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Netanyahu however assured India that the single vote would not come in the way of strengthening relationship between the two countries. Israel has been a historic friend of India-coming to the need of the country whenever it was in dire need. Even on Pakistan, Israel has stood by India even if that was not openly reciprocated. Israel has been India’s secret friend for over fifty years selling military hardware from the Indo-China war to the wars with Pakistan. The Indo-Israeli friendship is now in the open and that is a good sign that India under Modi is interested to forge ahead instead of getting bogged down with the past shackles. It now remains to be seen whether India can move up the ladder in commercial and military technology which Israel can offer.

My contact with the nature of God will shape my understanding of His call and will help me realize what I truly desire to do for Him. The call of God is an expression of His nature; the service which results in my life is suited to me and is an expression of my nature. The call of the natural life was stated by the apostle Paul— “When it pleased God… to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him [that is, purely and solemnly express Him] among the Gentiles….” Service is the overflow which pours from a life filled with love and devotion. But strictly speaking, there is no call to that. Service is what I bring to the relationship and is the reflection of my identification with the nature of God. Service becomes a natural part of my life. God brings me into the proper relationship with Himself so that I can understand His call, and then I serve Him on my own out of a motivation of absolute love. Service to God is the deliberate love-gift of a nature that has heard the call of God. Service is an expression of my nature, and God’s call is an expression of His nature. Therefore, when I receive His nature and hear His call, His divine voice resounds throughout His nature and mine and the two become one in service. The Son of God reveals Himself in me, and out of devotion to Him service becomes my everyday way of life.

The dark side of democracy

he prolong delay of the genuine demand of the Rengmas on whatever laid grounds is the result of the lack of political will to deliver justice to all the sections of the Naga society. The government of Nagaland and the Nagas are well aware of the legitimacy and the legacy of the Rengma Nagas. The biggest discrimination is that Rengmas have been compelled to prove their legitimacy time and again even though they are equal member of the family of Naga brotherly tribes. Why the Rengmas are compelled to fight for their rights when all the Naga tribes are considered equal brothers in a family. All the recognized and specified Naga tribes of Nagaland are equal proprietors of Nagaland as in a family. The delay of the demand of the Rengmas for up gradation of Tseminyu into a full-fledged district has led to the denial of their due share in the process of economic development amounting to act of omission and violation of their human rights. The immense loss incurred to them in terms of economic and human developments over the decades can never be recovered even if the district is provided now and if it is kept on delaying then the whole tribe will continue to suffer economic retardation when other tribes progress and prosper. Naga people want the Rengmas too to equally take the opportunity to participate in the process of all round development and progress alongside other Naga tribes. Then what is pulling back the state government from granting them the same. It is hypocritical for legislators to ask the centre for honourable settlement while denying honourable treatment to their fellow tribe. The question of eligibility and ineligibility based on fixed artificial criteria of minimum two constituencies to be a district is nonsense as far as humanitarian ground is concerned and nothing else. This is a violation of principle of equitable distribution and universal norms of population and territory as elements of state. What judgement is this to deny justice to a section of people who have been already denied equal peoples’ representation while fully ignoring that some have excess peoples’ representation. Why should there be minimum two assembly constituency seats as a criterion when

t is for certain that the Indians and the Nagas are two different sets of people with distinct identity, ethos, culture, heritage etc., with each’s natural right to self-govern. And it was due to the intervention of the British imperialism, Nagaland was introduced for annexation under the Indian Union territory – this is clear for all. Even the conception of Nagaland state was the brainchild of a handful of Nagas and Indian emissaries, without the consent and mandate of the people en masse. Also, prior and after the induction of Nagaland as the 16th state of India, parallel governments existed and exist till date. Hence it is relevant that the contemporary Nagas are not under the perimeter of a legitimate government (s) synonymous with conscious and wishful choice and contract. And with everything that followed it is not travesty to claim that our present way of life hasn’t been affected because of the anomalies of the past. With all the perturbed problems at hand, the Nagas today need a solution of kind, that will encompass the realities and address root causes of all the problems, to solve it and ascend towards normal way of life, synchronized with peace and progress. Nagaland today is under a colonial rule in modern times, unless there could be a clear arrangement of coexistence with the GoI based on mutual understanding – to hatch out a settlement be it in stages, for the Naga solution to ensue. The Naga solu-

tion has elements comprised of sovereignty, integration, equality, liberty, economic freedom and sustainability, corruption-free governance etc. Despite the intensity of the present hot-debate, election or solution, the commencement of election is irrelevant to a political settlement for a Naga solution, with the GoI. Be that as it may, election happens or not, the ongoing political settlement is a threshold for a new development of relationship with the GoI and the assertion of the contemporary Nagas ... that we are aware of our rights and may we be given justice. The only matter of concern is the toll it would take on the resources of the political parties (excluding purchasing of votes). The current political crisis of Nagaland is complexity at its best and has earned itself as one of the unprecedented and dynamic political fallouts of issues in the history of political conflicts. It is through a mere application of common mind, we can come to an understanding that the framers of the Indian constitution could not have predicted or determined the political deadlock and saturation that would have arisen between the Nagas and the GoI as of the present context. It is preposterous to assume so. Human conflict may as well channel across close to infinity and no volume of written texts can supervise inch detail of arguments – the development of ground factors and

human sentiments involved could only be assessed by discerning humans, present at the times of conflict. Also the Naga solution falls out of the purview of the Indian constitution, one of the reason being, even after having obtained statehood in the Indian Union territory, the inconclusive Naga oriented political aspiration existed before and even today, and presently it will not see the light at the end of the tunnel until a realistic political settlement is hammered with the GoI. As per the Indian constitution, President’s rule could be implemented if there is a constitutional crisis, however though in practice, President’s rule has been imposed under different circumstances, one of which being elections postponed for unavoidable reasons. Thus, a coincidence or accumulation of events; the juncture we are currently in, needs to be thoroughly revised with the whole elements of reality by all parties. At this juncture, implementation of a President’s rule wouldn’t mean to construe the public in the strictest of manner for subjugation, but only to make room for a successful discourse of political negotiations encompassing the whole lot and inhibiting dispensable incurring of time and resources. To quote Bob Dylan, “times they are a changing” (also previously endorsed by our PM Mr. Modi) we may as well get used to changes every often. Liberal Democratic People of Nagaland

personally extend my heartfelt gratitude to the FNR for successfully organizing the Naga Day on 10th January 2018 at Kohima local ground. Initially it was a bounding duty of the Naga political groups to recognize this Red letter day as a basis to start with Naga Political movement. On this very day of 10th January 1929, the Naga Club submitted a memorandum to the British authority known as the Simon commission just to assert the Naga political right. However, after a long hiatus of eighty nine (89) years, the FNR could trace out this historical day as a basis for Naga unity, understanding and reconciliation throughout Naga inhabited area, although the meeting was held belatedly. The Naga area having divided into pieces by late Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime minister of India. Since Nagas were ignorant in those days, without knowing the political

grossly unequal peoples’ representation exists among the Nagas. Why it is never an agenda of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to deliberate on grossly unequal size of assembly constituency seats in terms of population and land area over the decades. Fixation of criteria for district should be subjected to constitutional review as it has been arbitrarily used as an instrument to exploit the Rengmas. What a measurement scale it is which indicates that a piece of 500 grams is smaller than two pieces of 200 grams each which make 400 grams only when added. History and the prevalent circumstances speak louder than adversaries that the Rengmas living under Tseminyu, one of the oldest sub divisional towns, deserve some better and honourable treatments. The constant discrimination on various excused grounds only exhibits deep rooted hypocrisy. This is the dark side of democracy in Nagaland where politically weaker lots are pushed to undergo sufferance, ignored and not spoken of. How much injustice has been committed in the name of democracy since the inception of Nagaland state. Naga Christian leaders are not determined to speak the truth for deprived sections of people. This is Nagaland for Christ state but the Churches are maimed when some are crying for justice. It is ironic that in Nagaland exploiting some politically weaker section of people is non issue. Successive state governments have miserably failed to deliver justice to all deserving Naga people because of corruption and mismanagement of affairs. The election manifestos and vision documents highlighted during elections were all empty vessels to befool the people. Corrupt minded and pleasure seeking leaders who can build castles at the expense of the people will never be able to do justice to their jobs nor the people. People equally deserve better social change and all round true development. Only Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has the political will to dispose justice to all sections of Naga societies with its wide range of pro people programs and good governance and illuminate the dark side of democracy where helpless people are shaded in. Proper comprehension of current perplexities (I)

Our land was ceded by Late Jawaharlal Nehru to Burma in 1953 without the consent and knowledge of the Nagas and the Naga people couldn’t raise any objection against parting away our land to Burma because of ignorance. Although, the Naga club has moved in the right direction asserting our political right to the Britishers, the Naga populace and all other political groups were sleeping all these 89 years failing to draw out the importance of the Red Letter Day to commemorate the movement. Therefore I must

congratulate the organizing committee of FNR and the APO for successfully hosting of this historic day at Kohima Local Ground on 10th January 2018 and this will be the basis for Naga Unity and Social-political understanding as a clear message to all the Naga people wherever they are. Meanwhile, it is regretted to mention that a senior citizen like Thepfulhouvi Solo, a retired technocrat of his stature should not be critical of the FNR. The Naga Hohohad appointed those prominent leaders from among the Nagas, from the churches, intellectuals, social-activists etc. And all the FNR members are having clear reputation and credentials in their profession whatsoever. And the main objective of the Naga Hoho for formation of the FNR is to entrust their responsibilities so as to douse the burning social and political situation prevailing in our land and it was a formidable task for

the FNR to carry out the Naga Hoho’s assignment. Nearly a quarter of a century, right from 1992 the Naga people has faced critical situation like fighting, killing, bloodshed, robbery, extortion, thievery, rape etc. were the order of the day throughout in Naga area. Not only thekillings of Naga National workers, even church leaders and innocent people were being killed mercilessly. It was a big task for the FNR to quell the situation and to bring about the changes among the Naga brothers for peace, unity understanding and reconciliation. The FNR members, for the last 1516 years, abandoned their due professional duties and vigorously started concentrating to pursue the peace and reconciliation within the Naga Political Groups to stop killing and all criminal activities among the Nagas, and therefore, today we are just seeing a ray of hope – a calm and cool situation prevailing among

the Naga brothers. Every right thinking Naga should highly appreciate the handy works carried out by the FNR tirelessly without any boundary.And we felt it is a great historical achievement in the context of conflict resolution. Nobody should denigrate the works of FNR in future. As I have mentioned earlier, Nagas have 64 identical tribes and amongst those we have few tribes who are relatively forward like the Angamis, Aos, Semas, Lothas, Chakhesang etc. These forward tries should unite together and try to lead the other Naga tribes for a good measure of understanding in the right direction so as to promote better understanding in the line of socio-political and religious life of the Nagas. Any individual or tribes from amongst these forward tribes should stop forthwith the silly slogan of “Nagas of Nagaland” anymore. Anybody who are advocating such ideology

Shall we clean the candidate?

BCC has been pushing the slogan “Clean election” but probably very few appreciate the effort. Please keep up with it if it is effective. Is it? Who is the culprit? It seems to many it is very likely the candidate. It is the candidate that seems to spoil the show every time. It is the candidate that brings in the liquor and the filthy lucre. Ministers caught with cash and booze was all over the newspapers in the last election and with many untold news equally sensational. NBCC don’t you get it ? What is it all about? About a ‘clean election’ or a clean candidate?. Isn’t it so hypocritical that right after the declaration of the results the MLAs trouped to the churches usually Baptist, for the blessings of the church? They won ? Right! But how? With all their conniving, debauchery, cheating, fistfights, fraud voting

and every wicked way? Just to win? After their victory they are almost looked on as demi-gods. Is the church just to look the other way and just bless them? Are we partaking of their sins if we don’t correct them in their sins? In Apostle Paul’s day people were put out of the churches, out of fellowship for their wrongdoings. Will NBCC give the mandate? The mandate of politicians and those agreeing with them, taking a whole nation into sin by corruption, fornication, drunkenness and decadence? Most of the politicians belong to some Baptist church under NBCC. When members are struck off church register for obvious sins, why are there exceptions made for the politicians and bureaucrats? Are you beholding evil as good and good as evil? “Isaiah_5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness

for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Isn’t it common knowledge for big shots (politicians and bureaucrats) to have mistresses and travelling companions other than their own wives? Is it right if the big shots robbed the state continuously by swindling money and empting the coffer? Is the church quiet because some of the stolen money comes back to the churches as tithes and offerings and as a result we have these very beautiful churches? But the majority of our people suffering because of road conditions and no or hardly any salaries? And not being able to tell the truth? Why are so many people living in misery? Is it because of the wickedness of the present rulers and NPGs? Will NBCC just be quiet and not dare to stir the pot to get rid of the debris? Who cares about the spiritual state of

our nation? Who will stand up and raise their voice and care if people are going to die a second death in hell? It is crucial now to have the right leaders in power who are not just Christian in name but also in the spirit. So let’s call a spade a spade and clean our house. Let’s usher in the kingdom of God where there is righteousness and holiness. People will be much happier with righteous rulers at the helm. Lord help us, if we have removed Christ from our Christianity! Thank God, He WILL listen to those who cry out to a righteous God for justice mercy and thank God for those who WILL pray for Nagaland and thank God for those who WILL repent. There were times in history that wrongdoers and rulers were afraid of the prayers of the saints. To have clean election we need clean candidates! Tribalism: A disease Sir,

We Nagas are very particular about what tribe they come from and have a habit of speaking callously about a tribe they dislike. We all know, there have been situations where the “my tribe is better than yours” discussions had ended up in bloody brawls. It baffles me how many Nagas call themselves educated yet promote so much tribalism. We fail to realise that tribalism is pervasive, and it controls many facets of our behaviour, readily overriding reason. Think of the inhuman things we do in the name of tribal unity. We must fight tribalism tooth and nail. Nagaland has come a long way and we cannot afford to tribally divide ourselves now. Wapang Imchen, Duncan Basti, Dimapur that of the Editor in any manner.

Govt should not fund any religious pilgrimages: CPI-M NEW DELHI, JAN 17 (IANS): The central and state governments in India should not provide subsidy or funds to pilgrimages of any religion, the CPI-M said on Wednesday, a day after the Centre announced withdrawal of Haj subsidy. “As per the secular principle of the state, the CPI-M is not for state subsidy or funding of religious pilgrimages undertaken by individuals whichever

religion they belong to,” the Left party said in a statement. “Hence, there should be no central or state government funding, as it exists today, of providing subsidies and grants for individuals to go on religious pilgrimages,” it added. On the withdrawal of Haj subsidy, the party said the sudden withdrawal of the subsidy seems “arbitrary and motivated by other considerations”.

‘Padmaavat’ producers move SC against ban NEW DELHI, JAN 17 (IANS): The Supreme Court is likely to hear a plea by the producers of “Padmaavat” challenging the ban on the controversial movie in some states. When counsel for the producers mentioned the matter on Wednesday before a bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and sought an expeditious hearing, the court refrained from responding. He also said that a country which is victim of terror has to fight on its own war. New Delhi, Jan 17 (Agencies): A fortnight ahead of the Union Budget, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council is likely to take up rationalisation of rates of about 70 items, of which at least 40 are services. Amendment in rules may also be taken up to simplify filing and plug some of the loopholes. A fitment committee of officers has made these recommendations to the Council, which will meet on Thursday, reported Business Standard. With the aim to boost struggling agriculture and rural economy, and encourage clean energy, the Council is expected to rationalise rates of agriculture implements and unconventional fuel buses. It is the last Council meeting before Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presents his last full Budget on 1 February, before general elections in 2019. “Around 40 to 50 services will be taken up for a rate revision in the Council meeting. Jerry Chun Shing Lee, a naturalised US citizen, was held at New York’s JFK airport on Monday, the US justice department said. He worked for the CIA between 1994 and 2007, when he left for Hong Kong. The case is thought to be linked to an FBI investigation, which began in 2012, into the crippling of the CIA’s spy operation in China. In the two years before, some 20 informants had been killed or jailed - one of the most disastrous failures of US intelligence in recent years.But officials did not know whether to blame a mole or data hack. US media, quoting sources close to the inquiry, say investigators now suspect Mr Lee of helping China. Mr Lee, also known as Zhen Cheng Li, served in the US Army from 1982-86, say court documents. He began his CIA career in 1994 as a case officer trained in covert communications, surveillance detection, recruitment, and the handling and payment of assets (agents or informants), among other duties. On Thursday at local ground, Kohima, final matches of football (Men), Basketball (Men & Women), Volleyball (Men & Women) will be played starting from 7:30 a.m.

While at the Indoor Stadium Kohima, finals of Badminton (open categories) Table Tennis (open categories) Chess (Individual) will begin from 12 p.m. onwards. Earlier, LhisemiaKhel and DapfhütsumiaKhel entered the football final. Lhisemia-Khel beat Tsütuonuomia-Khel 6-3, while Dapfhütsumia-Khel beat Pfuchatsumia-Khel 1-0. Final would be played at 7:30 a.m. at Kohima local ground. In men’s volleyball, T Khel beat D Khel to set

up final clash with L Khel, which will also take place on Thursday. In women’s volleyball, L Khel beat P Khel and D Khel defeated T Khel. L Khel will face D Khel in the final. In men’s basketball, L Khel beat P Khel 48-43 and D Khel beat T Khel 64-56 in the second match. D Khel will lock horn against P Khel in the final on Thursday. In women’s basketball, T Khel beat D Khel 23-22 and L Khel beat P Khel 29-18 points to reach final.

Eight federating units of CASU took part in various competitions in the discipline of games and sports, literary competition, singing competition, handicrafts, extravaganza, etc wherein Chenwetnyu Students’ Union emerged as overall team championship. Rio de Janeiro, Jan 17 (IANS): Brazil World Cup winner and two-time FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldinho has officially retired from football, more than two years after playing his last competitive match. T h e 3 7 - ye a r - o l d ’s brother and agent Roberto Assis, confirmed the decision on Tuesday, reports Xinhua news agency. “He has stopped. It has ended. The decision was already made. We only needed to confirm it. He hasn’t played for a long

time,” Assis said. Assis added that a series of tribute matches were being planned to allow fans around the world to bid farewell to the former playmaker. “We will stage several events in Brazil, Europe and Asia and, of course, we are arranging something with the Brazilian team as well.” Ronaldinho has been without a club since parting ways with Rio de Janeiro side Fluminense in September 2015. He has since played in several exhibition matches around the world, including appearances for Barcelona’s legends team. Ronaldinho began his career with Brazil’s Gremio before spells with Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, AC Milan, Flamengo, Queretaro and Fluminense. He was voted FIFA World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005, and was a member of Brazil’s triumphant 2002 World Cup team.
