NNPGs back call for postponing polls it was “very encouraged” to find that all prominent Naga civil bodies had voiced their support for a smooth transaction of negotiation process without hindrance from any quarters, adding that expression of anxiety vis-à-vis polls was genuine. The WC also appreciated the resolution adopted by Nagaland Legislative Assembly recently urging the Government of India to defer election in favour of solution. The committee noted that while periodic democratic exercise was vital to all citizens, inhabitants of Nagaland cutting across party affiliations, tribes, religious denominations, civil bodies, village chiefs, etc, had taken a stand that elections be postponed in favour of solving the 70-year-old “Indo-Naga” political problem. WC said this was an unprecedented show of unity of purpose by Nagas and clearly an extraordinary situation which the Election Commission of India “must take note”. Asserting that people on a path towards negotiated political solution should not be forced to engage in electoral battles, WC urged
NEW DELHI, JAN 13 (IANS/PTI): As the crisis triggered by the revolt of four Supreme Court judges lingered, Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, and the rebel judges may meet on Sunday to resolve the problems raked up by them as two of the dissenting judges on Saturday sought to play down the issue. Three of the four judges, who had attacked the Chief Justice at a press conference here on Friday, were away from the capital and are expected to return on Sunday afternoon. There was no official confirmation about reports that Justice Misra will be meeting with the rebel judges. But indications were available that a resolution could be worked out from the remarks made by Justices Kurian Joseph and Ranjan Gogoi and Attorney General K.K. Venugopal, the government’s highest law officer. Justice Joseph said in Kochi that there was no constitutional crisis in the apex court and the issues they had raised appeared to have been sorted out.
Ranjan Gogoi, who was in Kolkata for a meeting of legal services authorities, also ruled out any crisis hitting the top court. “There is no crisis,” he said, but refused to make any further comments. The Attorney General, meanwhile, expressed the hope that the problems in the top judiciary would be “settled” by Monday. BCI 7-member team: Bar Council of India (BCI) today formed a seven-member team to meet all judges of the Supreme Court, barring the five seniormost judges, to discuss the present crisis in the apex court. It passed a resolution saying no political party or leaders should take undue advantage of the situation arising out of the press conference by four senior Supreme Court judges. BCI chairperson, Manan Kumar Misra, said that the apex bar body has formed the sevenmember team to meet all judges of the Supreme Court barring the five seniormost judges to discuss the present crisis. BCI also resolved that it will take the opinion of other judges.

CJI to meet 4 judges today to resolve crisis
DIMAPUR, JAN 13 (NPN): Even as the cry for postponing Assembly election in favour of solution, gets louder by the day, Working Committee of the NNPGs has finally come out in the open by lending weight to the chorus for ‘solution before election’ . In a statement media cell of the NNPGs maintained that election to Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) would have “serious ramifications” on the ongoing peace process and so appealed to the Government of India to appreciate the sentiments of the people. WC expressed the hope the government of India would act “positively” for paving a way and create conducive atmosphere for smooth negotiation process so as to arrive at an honourable and acceptable solution to the long-drawn “Indo-Naga” political problem. Further the Working Group also warned that holding elections when political negotiation was at an advanced stage, would negatively impact pursuit of early solution. Drawing attention to the appeals of various organisations, WC stated that

The NNPGs also called upon all intending candidates in Nagaland, irrespective of their party affiliations, to respond to the demands by standing by people’s commitment. It said fulfilling Naga people’s political aspiration was far greater than indulging in electoral exercise. WC therefore urged upon Naga leaders to focus on finding a political solution as the negotiations were on the verge of a decisive moment in the Naga people’s existence as a people and nation. T.R. Zeliang along with his cabinet colleagues and others after unveiling the monolith.
DIMAPUR, JAN 13 (NPN): Nagaland chief minister, T.R. Zeliang on Saturday formally inaugurated Akuluto town as a ADC headquarter on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said it was a red letter day for the people of Akuluto and VK areas and they could now look forward to more development and peace in
the area. On the need for upgrading Akuluto town to ADC headquarters, Zeliang said the government took the decision as Nagaland University’s headquarters was located at Lumami, which fell under Akuluto sub-division. Expressing happiness on the upgrade, Zeliang extended his gratitude to
former chief minister late Dr. Hokishe Sema and other pioneers who had contributed immensely to laying the foundation of Akuluto town. He exhorted the citizens to renew their spirits for moving ahead with better vision as the up-gradation was happening many decades after it was upgraded to a civil sub-division in 1974.
The chief minister also urged the citizens to make use of the national highways that pass through both Akuluto and VK towns. Stating that soil of the area was fertile and ideal for cultivation, he urged the citizens to make use of the resources and achieve selfsufficiency in agricultural crops by 2022. He also wished the people of Akuluto and VK area a bright and prosperous future. Earlier, Roads & Bridges and Political Affairs minister, G. Kaito Aye and parliamentary secretary for Youth Resources, Sports and Music Task Force, Khekaho Assumi also spoke on the occasion. cates of Puma, were recovered from Babu Garment Shop, NL Road. Similarly, 118 fake Puma ladies wear, 33 fake Puma track pants and 18 fake Puma track suits were also seized from Deepak Store, NL Road. JD (U) to assess coalition with DAN Villagers along India-Myanmar Correspondent
KOHIMA, JAN 13 (NPN): After more than a decade of being a coalition partner in the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), Janata Dal (United) on Saturday said it will assess whether the party would enter into a coalition with any political party in the 2018 Assembly elections. Addressing media persons here at Hotel Japfu, secretary general and former MP, K.C Tyagi said, as in previous years, JD (U) had decided to contest the elections. However, the party will assess whether or not to enter into a coalition with any political party, he added. He also recalled the suggestion of former minister, Tenucho in Delhi on December 10, 2017 to forge an alliance with DAN. Tyagi regretted that although sufficient funds were granted to Nagaland and the North-East states, the progress and development on the ground was dismal. On the issue of “solution
before election” Tyagi said the party was of the opinion that the commitment made by Government of India to solve the Naga issue must become a reality. He however said that conducting elections was a constitutional matter, in the hands of the Election Commission of India (ECI). He said election was likely to be held by the last week of February or early March. Tyagi also said that, as suggested by JD (U) Nagaland state unit, the party will organize a dharna at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar by January end to highlight the issues of Nagaland and the NE region. To queries over constant shifting of parties by JD (U) MLAs, as experienced in the past, Tyagi said politics in Nagaland has been known for MLAs shifting parties, and wished that such instances would not be repeated. JD (U) state convenor N.S.N Lotha said the party had not pulled out the DAN alliance, but will consult central party leaders on future alliances.
When asked why special concern was shown by the Central political parties only during the election seasons, Lotha said the central leaders arrived in Kohima to meet the new office bearers and not because of elections. He added that if the election was announced before the dharna was conducted, it might be kept in abeyance, if not the party will go ahead and stage the dharna. Lotha said the party wanted to review their alliance partnership with DAN due to some issues in the DAN government and also due to political instability in the state. He assured that JD(U) will be a stable party. Lotha further said JD (U) was yet to decide how many constituencies it would be contesting. Lotha was optimistic that the party’s numbers would increase this time. Amongst many retired bureaucrats, Lotha said former Special Officer Y.M. Lotha from 38 A/C Wokha was the first person to join the party and also informed that some sitting MLAs had approached the party.
international border to get passes NEW DELHI, JAN 13 (AGENCIES): India and Myanmar are all set to streamline free movement of people within 16 km along their borders, The Hindu report stated. The Centre has asked the four states that share unfenced border with Myanmar to distribute “border pass” to all the residents living within 16 km from the boundary line. It has also asked the governments of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram to enrol the border residents under Aadhaar on war footing. Myanmar’s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi will be in New Delhi next week along with nine ASEAN leaders as a chief guest for the Republic Day parade. A formal agreement is expected to be signed between India and Myanmar during her visit. “The border pass will be given only to the domiciles. All residents going across the border for agriculture, work or to meet relatives should carry the pass at all times. There will be no restric-
tions on their movement,” said an official. The official explained that both the countries had been intending to put a system in place after India raised the issue of movement of extremists and smugglers freely across the border. On January 3, the Union Cabinet had approved the agreement between India and Myanmar on land border crossing which the government said would enhance economic interaction between the people of the two countries. An official clarified that the agreement is not associated with the Centre’s stand regarding Rohingyas as this part of the border is not known to be used by the refugees to come to India. It may be recalled that a highlevel committee report submitted by Joint Intelligence Committee chief R.N. Ravi had suggested changing the “misnomer” related to “free border movement” and asked the government to replicate the model prevalent in villages and areas along the Bangladesh border.
