KOHIMA, FEB 27 (NPN): Union Health & Family Welfare minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Saturday categorically affirmed that he would personally monitor and stay in touch with state government to ensure timely completion of the medical colleges in Kohima and Mon. Interacting with media persons here after visiting the Nagaland Medical College at Phriebagei, Kohima, Dr. Vardhan said though the works have been “over delayed” he expressed happiness at the current progress. The minister also expressed optimism with the deadline set by the state government to complete the project by the middle of 2022. “This is what we wanted to review,” Dr. Vardhan said and also assured that the Central government will continue to take care of Nagaland.

Earlier on Friday, when Dr. Vardhan laid the foundation stone for the Mon Medical college he said that works were expected to commence as early as possible and that there was no reason for any delay. He also expressed the desire to again visit Nagaland to oversee the completion of the two medical colleges. Dr. Vardhan asserted that the Central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was focussed on delivering a new North East to the nation, by bringing all-round development and strengthening connectivity and the health care system. With huge increases in the funds for healthcare, sanitation and drinking water services in current year’s union budget, Dr. Vardhan said many good will be seen in the coming years to strengthen the goal for providing good health to the people.
Earlier, upon his arrival at the medical college site here, the union minister was briefed about the ongoing works and other issues. Dr. Vardhan was accompanied by Health minister S. Pangnyu Phom, advisor Dr Neikesalie Nicky Kire, NPF legislator Khriehu Liezietsu and officials. After inspecting the Kohima Medical College, Dr Vardhan along with his wife paid a visit to the Kohima War Cemetery where they offered floral tributes to the fallen heroes of World War II. Earlier in the day, the visiting union minister was accorded a warm welcome at Kohima village during a reception in the Kohima Village Council hall. Clad in traditional Naga attire, Dr Vardhan expressed his profound gratitude to the people of Nagaland for the robust hospitality they had given to him. Kohima Village Council, chairman Helievio Solo expressed gratitude to the Dr. Vardhan and his wife for visiting the village and urged the minister for early completion of the ongoing Medical college construction for improvement of health care system in Nagaland. The union minister also visited Nagaland Civil Secretariat and Urban Primary Health Centre, Seikhazou in the morning. It may be mentioned that the two medical colleges have been sanctioned 100 seats each.
Fuel prices hiked after 3-day hiatus DIMAPUR, FEB 27 (NPN): State-owned oil marketing companies increased the prices of petrol and diesel on Saturday after a threeday hiatus taking retail rates of fuel to fresh highs across the country barring states that recently slashed taxes on petroleum products. According to IOCL website, the price of petrol was raised by 24 paise and while diesel price was hiked by 15 paise per litre. Following the latest hike, petrol is now priced at Rs 91.17 a litre and diesel Rs 81.47 a litre in the capital Delhi. After Saturday’s rate revision, petrol price in Dimapur rose from Rs.89.95 per litre to Rs. 90.19 per litre while diesel price increased from Rs.83.56 per litre to Rs.83.72 per litre. Likewise, in the state capital Kohima, petrol price soared to Rs. 91.09 per litre and diesel price climbed to Rs.84.44 per litre.

Govt defends digital media guidelines NEW DELHI, FEB 27 (PTI): IInformation and Broadcasting Ministry on Saturday clarified that the provision in the new digital media guidelines to block internet content in a case of emergency nature has been around as a rule since 2009 and was not recently introduced. Certain misgivings are being raised regarding Rule 16 under Part III of the guidelines which mention that in a case of emergency nature, interim blocking directions may be issued by the Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, a ministry statement said. “It is hereby clarified that this is not a new provision. For the past eleven years, since 2009, this provision has been exercised by the Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT under the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking for Access of Information by Public)

States were also told about a simplified system for certifying people with preexisting conditions from a list of 20 comorbidities within the 45-59 years age
group. A one-page certificate signed by a registered medical practitioner will have to be uploaded on Co-Win by the beneficiary while self-registering or a hard copy can be carried while visiting the vaccination centre. The government will allow signing up for shots in advance, on the spot and also in large cohorts for groups through Co-Win. Beneficiaries will be able to self-register in advance by downloading CoWin and also through other platforms such as Aarogya (Cont’d on p-6) Setu.

NEW DELHI, FEB 27 (NPN): Centre on Saturday finalised a list of products from agriculture and allied sectors that will be promoted in a cluster approach in 728 districts across the country including 11 districts of Nagaland as part of its effort to boost farm exports and enhance farmers income. The agriculture ministry, in consultation with food processing industries ministry, has finalised the products for ‘One District
One Focus Product’ (ODOFP), an official statement said. Inputs from the States/ UTs and Indian Council of Agricultural Research have also been taken to prepare the list. “The products have been identified from agricultural, horticultural, animal, poultry, milk, fisheries and aquaculture, marine sectors for 728 districts across the country,” the statement said. May have 3-4 vaccines soon, option to choose: AIIMS chief NEW DELHI, FEB 27 (AGENCIES): People may have a choice of three or four coronavirus vaccines in a few weeks, and pick which one to take with the government expanding the inoculation drive and allowing beneficiaries to choose their vaccination centres from Monday, chief of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences told the NDTV on Saturday. “...We may have three or four vaccines. You can’t have all of them available in one centre. One centre will be giving only one vaccine. But it is likely that in your area you may have more than one vaccine provided in different private hospitals and therefore it may indirectly give you some choice because you would know which vaccine is being given at which centre. But you can’t go to a site and ask for one vaccine or the other,” Dr Randeep Guleria told NDTV on Saturday. ‘1.08L ‘D’ voters can’t vote in Assam polls’
Guwahati, Feb 27 (PTI): Assam has 1.08 lakh D or doubtful voters who will not exercise their franchise in the forthcoming assembly polls to be held in three phases on March 27, April one and April six, Chief Electoral Officer Nitin Khade said on Saturday. The figure of D-voters has decreased in comparison to the number of 1.13 lakh provided in the state assembly last year. The Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora during his visit to the state in January had said that the names of those persons not figuring in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) but is there in the electoral roll can exercise their franchise. Doubtful voters are those persons who are identified during electoral roll revision as D-voters, cases of which are pending with the Foreigners Tribunals or declared as foreigners by the Tribunal. Agartala, Feb 27 (IANS): A 54-year-old truck driver was beaten to death by unidentified assailants in Tripura while he was driving his goodsladen vehicle from Assam to Agartala, the police said on Saturday. Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Arindam Nath said that the attackers thrashed Pradip Debnath to death at Ambassa in Dhalai district (in eastern Tripura) on Friday night while he was driving his Agartala bound truck from Assam through National Highway-8. “We have got some clues of the incident. One person was detained. Police are investigating the case. As the investigations are at an early stage, we are unable to disclose the details behind the crime,” Nath told IANS. The family members of the slain truck driver alleged the miscreants also looted Rs 40,000 from Debnath, a resident of Teliamura in wester n Tripura.

fter the government of India launched the scheme -“Upgradation of District Hospitals to Medical College”- to produce at least more than 15,000 doctors, Nagaland’s proposal in 2013-14 for a medical college in Kohima was approved and later the second medical college at Mon was also approved in 2020. The first medical college at Kohima is estimated to cost a total of Rs.198 crore for upgradation and conversion of the present Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) to medical college. According to sources, the medical college at Kohima will have 100 seats for MBBS. Foundation stone for the medical college being set up at Phriebagei, Kohima was laid by chief minister Neiphiu Rio on March 3,2014. According to official sources, the Centre has already released its share of Rs. 171.10 crore for establishment of Medical college at Kohima. The state share as per the 90:10 ratio is around Rs.24 crore. The State has reported progress of 16.50% on union health ministry’s dashboard. The state has also been requested to expedite completion of the college. The medical college at Kohima will have two campuses-the administrative, academic, hostel complex for students and residential complex of faculty and staff for the medical college will be at Phriebagie, while the teaching hospital campus at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NKAH). According to reports, the NHAK has over 200 bedded capacity and would be increased further. The second medical college in Nagaland will be at Mon. As per reports the Mon district hospital has less than 50 beds and will have to expand bed capacity to at least 200 within the next few years. The foundation stone for the Mon Medical College was laid by union minister of health and family welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan on February 26,2021. The medical college at Mon through upgradation and conversion of Mon district hospital to a medical college, comes at a cost of Rs 325 crore of which Rs 292 crore would be given by the centre and is planned to be completed by 2023-24. The state share is estimated at Rs.33 crore. The Mon Medical College is scheduled to be completed by 2023-24 and will offer MBBS degrees for 100 students. Nagaland will finally have not one but two medical colleges after 58 years of statehood. Nagaland missed the bus on several occasions in the past such as the having a full fledged medical college in Dimapur during 90s when the 500-bedded Referral Hospital project launched during the late 80s, was abandoned due cost escalations from around Rs.30 crore to over Rs.100 crore. Dimapur should have the long awaited medical college as the present Christian Institute of Health Science and Research (CIHSR) erstwhile Referral Hospital, has all the requirements. The CIHSR is located in 130 acres and with capacity for 500 beds. It also has a nursing college and a BSL -2 set up. What is more, Dimapur urban with a population of 2.6 lakh (Dimapur district has four lakh people) also has over two dozen hospitals, multi-speciality centres, nursing homes. Dimapur is the commercial centre and among the top cities in the north east and well connected by road, rail and air with the rest of the country. Much more can be said about the viability and feasibility of having a full fledged medical college in Dimapur, the cosmopolitan city of Nagaland and here, the elected members of the district ought to make the right pitch so as to benefit the entire state.

Think of the depths of human nature and human life; think of the depth of the “wells” in you. Have you been limiting, or impoverishing, the ministry of Jesus to the point that He is unable to work in your life? Suppose that you have a deep “well” of hurt and trouble inside your heart, and Jesus comes and says to you, “Let not your heart be troubled…” (John 14:1). Would your response be to shrug your shoulders and say, “But, Lord, the well is too deep, and even You can’t draw up quietness and comfort out of it.” Actually, that is correct. Jesus doesn’t bring anything up from the wells of human nature— He brings them down from above. We limit the Holy One of Israel by remembering only what we have allowed Him to do for us in the past, and also by saying, “Of course, I cannot expect God to do this particular thing.” The thing that approaches the very limits of His power is the very thing we as disciples of Jesus ought to believe He will do. We impoverish and weaken His ministry in us the moment we forget He is almighty. The impoverishment is in us, not in Him. We will come to Jesus for Him to be our comforter or our sympathizer, but we refrain from approaching Him as our Almighty God. The reason some of us are such poor examples of Christianity is that we have failed to recognize that Christ is almighty. We have Christian attributes and experiences, but there is no abandonment or surrender to Jesus Christ. When we get into difficult circumstances, we impoverish His ministry by saying, “Of course, He can’t do anything about this.” We struggle to reach the bottom of our own well, trying to get water for ourselves. Beware of sitting back, and saying, “It can’t be done.” You will know it can be done if you will look to Jesus. The well of your incompleteness runs deep, but make the effort to look away from yourself and to look toward Him.

To support their allegations, the government relied on the official Rajya Sabha TV (RSTV) feed, while the Opposition MPs produced mobile recordings. With only a limited number of journalists present in the press gallery, owing to Covidrelated restrictions, it became even more difficult to ascertain that day’s events. The same holds true for Lok Sabha TV too. This allows for our parliamentary telecast to not just be sanitised, but often, orchestrated to the advantage of those who control the Houses. The guidelines for telecasting proceedings, framed in 2010, prescribe censorship. They direct how the telecast will be moderated during “disorders”. On the one hand, they dictate that the telecast must be a true reflection of what is happening in the House, including scenes such as walkouts. On the other, they stipulate that during some disorders, including MPs entering the Well of the House, the camera shall focus only on the Chair of the House. Cumulatively, Twitter handles of Indian diplomats in more than 130 countries have around 10 million followers, giving them considerable global reach. Even while China, the world’s only other billion person-plus market, has locked Twitter out, India has grown to become the third-largest global market for Twitter after the United States and Japan. India’s diplomats have reaped significant benefits from their decade-long engagements on Twitter. These go beyond trending press releases with eye-catching hashtags or grabbing of eye-balls with internet memes. Creative use of this platform has enabled MEA to become aware more quickly and respond with greater swiftness to evolving circumstances. Discerning the tea leaves of subterranean trends by immersive social media engagement is a new art form for Indian diplomats, akin to their predecessors making sense of the “big-character-posters” in China during the Maoist era. Humanitarian concerns of Indian nationals caught up in distant crises now attract more high-level attention. A greater degree of sensitivity to public opinion while assessing and responding to such situations has followed. Digital interactions have catalysed impressive improvements in the delivery of consular and passport services. Harnessing the considerable public appeal of political leaders in ways never envisaged before, foreign policy positions are disseminated to a wider cross-section of Indian society. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vast appeal across so many social media platforms are tools that give unparalleled traction to India’s diplomatic outreach. From popularising the global conduct of the International Day of Yoga as a form of cultural diplomacy to inviting President Barack Obama to India’s Republic Day celebrations in 2015 and receiving his response on Twitter have made PM Modi’s “Twiplomacy” the stuff that public relations professionals dream of. Former external affairs minister, the late Sushma Swaraj, creatively used Twitter by tagging individual ambassadors and exhorting them to respond swiftly to requests for services required by citizens in distress, thereby ensuring rapid public confirmation of tasks once completed. The present incumbent, S Jaishankar often bonds with his counterparts on Twitter on their national occasions as India steps up its global diplomacy. Arguably, social media is impacting Indian diplomacy in more profound ways than other changes embraced in recent times. In many ways, it has made foreign policy less “foreign” to Indians. Similarly, Indian diplomatic postures are perhaps less of a conundrum to foreign “publics”.

In a multipolar world rife with concerns about terrorism, contentious trade disputes among allies and adversaries, catastrophic environmental degradation, health issues, human rights advocacy, the security implications of new technologies have made social media platforms an arena of inter-State contestation. Wolf warriors are said to be on the prowl digitally. Bots are trolling Indian diplomats online in a manner that intelligence operatives of inimical states pursue their every move in some locales. If the airwaves were used for propaganda purposes between the Soviet Union and the West during the Cold War, digital platforms cannot but be scenes of firefights as states jostle to seek support for their respective views. Spurred by the support of legions of followers, Indian diplomats, too, have, on occasions, sparred with adversaries. However, by definition, social media platforms are not the preserve of states. It is individuals and non-State actors of different hues that rule the roost there. Concerns of diplomatic establishments are not the primary issues in the mix. Though State functionaries may have some advantages, public figures and celebrities promoting their causes with little concerns for the nuances of State policy can be more than a match for them. On the social media circuit, the shield of rules and procedures that diplomats are schooled in do not offer protection. Often, style trumps substance. Boundaries that diplomats are taught to adhere to have less meaning in the virtual world than in the real world. There are few equivalents of diplomatic “red lines” that can’t be crossed. Everything is everybody’s business. Nothing is sacrosanct. No one is above being judged, many a time, rather irreverently. For diplomats, engaging robustly in the social media space is tantamount to pursuit of national interests without diplomatic immunity. On digital platforms, the meanings of long-established practices imbibed by Indian diplomats such as “quiet” diplomacy, “low-key” efforts, “considered” responses and “discreet” enquiries require recalibration. Many of India’s tallest diplomats, who have excelled at traditional diplomacy, have been able to establish only a limited social media presence. Public diplomacy on social media is a premium skill. Like other aspects of diplomacy, it needs to be honed, where necessary with professional assistance and support. Despite this, for Indian diplomats, there is no going back from increased social media engagement in general or even on Twitter, which at times runs into the cross hairs of our regulations. In an increasingly polarised social environment and amid sharpening global rivalries, Twitter storms are more often and more easily triggered than diplomatic storms. However, experience shows that they are, usually, easier to tide over too. telecast. There is no standard to determine which type of disorder should be telecast, covered up with visuals of the Speaker/Chair, or blacked out altogether. This enables both the government and the Opposition to peddle their version of the events, leaving viewers clueless. The earlier telecast guidelines, created under the aegis of former Speaker Somnath Chatterjee in 2005, in fact, allowed the airing of disruptions. Telecasting disruptions, he felt, would promote transparency and have “a sobering effect” on MPs by shaming them into behaving responsibly. However, within five years, these progressive guidelines were revised to their current, diluted form under the speakership of Meira Kumar. The reason for this change was never made public but a plausible explanation could be drawn from the Lok Sabha’s performance. The live telecast of parliamentary proceedings
began in 1994. Till the 12th Lok Sabha (1998-1999), the productivity levels, in terms of there being fewer disruptions, exceeded 100%. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Lok Sabhas (1999-2014) witnessed overwhelming disruptions as they were formed by stitching together a fragile coalition. Disruptions became the most effective means for MPs to voice diverse, regional interests and get noticed, something procedural constraints would otherwise not allow. It is, therefore, possible that the telecast guidelines were revised in order to curb the ruckus. The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government did get flak for this. The blackout during the 2014 Telangana Statehood Bill discussion led to vehement criticism for “subverting democracy”. What happened in the Upper House during the passage of the farm bills is a manifestation of this abusive
practice put in motion by the UPA government and being exploited by the current regime. Such censorship and State monopoly on parliamentary telecast violate the democratic ideals of accountability, transparency, and keeping the electorate informed. If Parliament has to truly function as an “institution of accountability”, the General Purposes Committee, which oversees matters concerning the working of the House, must reform the telecast guidelines. It must also mull over the larger question of how accurate parliamentary records should be. Where the student is without fear
A
mid the tsunami of FIRs and sedition charges, it is not easy to cherish the spirit of critical enquiry and transform our classrooms into truly dialogic spaces that encourage young minds to think and feel intensely, raise new questions, experiment with truth, and even interrogate the dominant common sense of the age. Instead, the all-pervading fear — that of being castigated as a “conspirator” with “anti-national” motives — tends to paralyse us. As teachers, many of us become overly cautious so that every word we utter in our classrooms becomes “technically perfect”, “legally sanctified”, and is in tune with the dominant ideology of nationhood. As even a tweet by a climate activist unsettles the mighty government, and the ever-expanding technologies of surveillance surround our existence, the idea of a living/vibrant classroom with the spirit of learning and unlearning, or creatively nuanced critical pedagogy might look like a distant dream. Yes, the message that is conveyed to us through the coercive as well as the ideological apparatus of the state is clear: Be safe, keep consuming the heavy dose of hyper-nationalism, don’t forget that conformity is the ultimate virtue, and a mind that questions is dangerous! To begin with, as a teacher, let me explore what it means to be “safe”. Possibly, it implies three things. First, don’t demand anything higher/nobler from your vocation; see yourself primarily as a “paid professional” — not fundamentally different from a bank accountant or a factory worker, complete the official syllabus, report to the higher authorities, and be “loyal”. Second, don’t bring the fire of sensitivity, reflexivity or inner churning in your classroom; instead, reduce education into a form of bookish knowledge, see it as just a joboriented “skill”, or at best equate one’s merit with detached intellectual gymnastics. And third, depoliticise education; don’t relate the classroom to the world out there. Well, you may refer to Marx, Gandhi and Ambedkar as a “course material”; but do not utter a single word about, say, the
farmers’ protest, rising authoritarianism, militarism, narcissism and growing communalisation of our society. In other words, be a “good performer”; keep pretending that everything around you is normal, and hence, don’t encourage the likes of Disha Ravi or Safoora Zargar in your classroom. Instead, cooperate with the cops, and send them to prisons! Yet, in the age of darkness, it is also important to strive for the light that illumines our consciousness. And at the finest moment of inspiration, a teacher who is not yet spiritually dead, I assume, would like to believe that education is essentially about awakened intelligence (not instrumental reasoning), sensitivity to life and the world, and emancipatory consciousness. This is possible only when we cultivate the art of listening, the urge to question, the ethics of care and the unity of theory and practice. It is in this context that in our classrooms we need to continually rediscover the meanings of “disobedience”, “nationalism” and “studentship”. Blind obedience, as Gandhi demonstrated through his politicoethical practice, is not a virtue; instead, non-cooperation with evil forces, or satyagraha as an art of resistance reveals our real courage. Hence, if a young student interrogates the rapid use of CCTV cameras in hostels and classrooms, she is not doing anything morally wrong; instead, she is questioning the culture of surveillance, and articulating the need for evolving a socio-cultural milieu based on trust, freedom and inner discipline. Well, in the eyes of an authoritarian vicechancellor or a college principal, she is “disobedient” or someone to be punished; but then, in the eyes of a sensitive teacher, she is a possibility — a dreamer whose time has come. Likewise, think of a student who sees hyper-nationalism as some sort of menace, argues that a toxic culture filled with the over-production of conspiracy theories cannot be justified in the name of majoritarian nationalism, and after all, there is something higher to strive for as the spirit of love and compas-
sion transcends all borders and boundaries. A teacher must assure her that she is not a criminal. She should not be ridiculed as what the prime minister regarded as “andolan jeevi”. Instead, unlike those who have reduced nationalism into some sort of war against fellow citizens, she is our lost conscience. Possibly, she is the one who has truly taken Tagore’s essays on nationalism seriously. A good student is not the one who writes “technically perfect” answers, gets good grades and pleases the corporate employers. Is it possible for a teacher to reaffirm that a good student is one who is not afraid of her creative rebelliousness because to love is to say “no” to what is ugly and violent — be it communal hatred, corporate loot and environmentally destructive “development” mantra? See the irony of our times. While coaching centres assure instant success, fancy schools manufacture the brigade of “toppers”. And with increasing commodification of education, a student becomes a consumer, and a teacher is just a “service provider”. Furthermore, our public universities have been destroyed systematically. It is almost impossible to find even the slightest trace of Tagore’s poetic universalism in Shantiniketan; and in recent times, the Jawaharlal Nehru University has been severely wounded. Yes, it is really sad if ideals collapse, utopias disappear, spineless celebrities are our role models, and noisy/”nationalist” television anchors become our ultimate educators. This must change. For this qualitative transformation, it is important to try our best to renew the spirit of libertarian education. Society decays if our classrooms are dead; democracy degenerates into authoritarianism if our universities cease to nurture young minds that question the pathology of power; and we would lose the very meaning of living if the psychology of fear is allowed to rob us of our ultimate treasure — our conscience. Excess bus fare in Kohima
This is an earnest appeal to the concerned departments once again to keep a check on the excess fares being charged by the drivers and conductors. This is in regard to the happenings in Kohima. The price rate of a seat in the bus is Rs. 10 but due to the pandemic SOP, a passenger is compelled to take dual seat for which he/she pays Rs. 20 which is understandable but some buses have been charging Rs. 20 per passenger though there are dual passenger in one row of seat, which costs Rs. 40 in total. Most importantly thinking about the Students who are being charged the same, though students in uniform should be paying Rs. 5 for a seat and for dual seat Rs. 10 but are being charged Rs. 20 each which cost to Rs. 40 and for a student to go to-and-fro costs Rs. 80 or more than that if it’s farther. This is exploitation of the passengers on board and amounts to daylight robbery. New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asked the toy manufacturers to use less plastic and more eco-friendly material, in addition, to focus on innovation. Inaugurating the first India Toy Fair 2021, Modi said, “We have to become Aatmanirbhar in the toy sector and also cater to the global market”. He regretted that India’s share in the USD 100 billion global toy market is very less, and about 85 per cent of the toys sold in the country are imported. “We need to promote hand-made in India,” he said. The Prime Minister also interacted with traditional toymakers from Chennapatnam, Varanasi and Jaipur and exhorted them to innovate and make traditional toys more relevant keeping in view the changing taste of children.

Shimla, Feb 27 (PTI): Himachal Pradesh Speaker Vipin Parmar has lodged an FIR against the five Congress MLAs suspended from the state assembly for the entire Budget session after they allegedly manhandled Governor Bandaru Dattatraya. The Speaker told PTI that the FIR was lodged at 3 pm on Friday. The Speaker said he will give details about the case after reaching Shimla on Monday. Earlier on Saturday, Assembly Secretary Yash Paul Sharma said that the Speaker has submitted a formal complaint to DGP Sanjay Kundu. Meanwhile, police did not give any details about the case with the DGP saying as the Assembly session in progress, they can inform about it only to the Speaker.
Chinese know Modi is ‘scared’: Rahul Tuticorin (TN), Feb 27 (PTI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Sino-India border standoff, charging him with being ‘scared’ of the eastern neighbour and took a swipe at him for being only “useful to two people.” Launching his threeday Tamil Nadu tour ahead of the April 6 assembly elections, he attacked Modi, BJP and the RSS on a number of issues, including the fall of Congress-led governments in Madhya Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh, alleging that they were ‘bought’ by the saffron party. Interacting with advocates here, the Wayanad Lok Sabha MP reiterated his “hum do hamare do” jibe at the ruling dispensation at the Centre. Gandhi said that before the stand-off at eastern Ladakh, where the disengagement process has been
completed with the withdrawal of troops, weapons and other military hardware from the North and South banks of Pangong lake areas, the Chinese “tested the idea in Dokhlam (in 2017).” “Essentially the Chinese occupied certain strategic areas in our country. They first tested the idea in Dokhlam. They tested the idea to see how would India react and they noticed India did not react. And then they carried out the idea again in Ladakh and also I believe in Arunachal Pradesh,” he said. Speaking in detail over the border standoff, Gandhi said Modi’s first reaction to the Chinese incursions was “that nobody has come into India.” “That indicated to the Chinese that the Prime Minister of India is scared of them.. they understood it. And since then the Chinese have negotiated on that principle,” he said.
“They know that the Prime Minister of India cannot stand up to them. Mark my words, our land in Depsang, which is the most important land, is not going to come back to under this government. The Prime Minister will not get that land back. He will pretend everything is sorted out, but India is going to lose that territory,” he charged. Giving such a message to the Chinese was “very dangerous to the future because the Chinese are not going to stop with Ladakh,” he alleged. He said the government under the Congress “always dealt with the Chinese without any hesitation.” “The Chinese understood very well that India cannot be pushed around. Even in 2013 when the Chinese entered into India, we took action that forced them, forced them to compromise...we went and occupied other spaces,” he said.
BENGALURU, FEB 27 (AGENCIES): The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up to launch 19 satellites Sunday as part of the first dedicated commercial PSLV mission for its commercial company NewSpace India Limited (NSIL). The The PSLV-C51/ Amazônia-1 mission will carry Brazil’s Amazônia-1 as the primary payload, along with 18 other guest satellites, including five Indian satellites. According to ISRO, the PSLV-C51/Amazônia-1 mission is the first dedicated commercial PSLV mission for the commercial company NSIL, which was set up in March 2019 under the Department of Space. The NSIL facilitated the mission through a commercial agreement with the American company Spaceflight Inc. The rocket will fly in its DL configuration, with two solid strap-on boosters. This is ISRO’s first launch of 2021 and the 53rd flight of the PSLV. It will be the third flight of the DL variant. The launch is scheduled at 10:24 hours IST on 28 February. Payloads Amazônia-1 or SSR-1, for Satélite de Sensoriamento Remoto-1 in Portuguese, is the first earth observation satellite to be developed fully by Brazil. It was designed, integrated, tested, and will be operated fully by the National Institute for Space
Research in Brazil. It weighs 637 kg and carries a wide field imaging camera with a resolution of 60 m over an 850-km swath of area. The Satish Dhawan SAT (SDSAT) is a nano satellite that will study space weather, magnetosphere, radiation levels, as well as aid in longrange communication. It was built by Space Kidz India, which has also included an engraved picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the top panel of the satellite as well as Bhagavad Gita in a flash. Space Kidz India said they put the picture of PM Modi to “show solidarity and gratitude for his Atmanirbhar initiative and Space privatisation”, and enabling ISRO facilities to open up to private players. The Bhagavad Gita was included to honor the “supreme epic of India” and the idea of ‘Vasudeva Kutumbakam’. UNITYsat is a combination of three satellites that were built by — Jeppiaar Institute of Technology in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, GH Raisoni College of Engineering in Nagpur, and Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology in Coimbatore. (IANS ): In a major development, the Delhi Police on Saturday arrested two persons for allegedly conspiring to assassinate Kashmiri activist Sushil Pandit. According to the Delhi Police, Sukhwinder (25) and Lakhan (21) were caught by the RK Puram Police after they received intelligence inputs that the two were planning the assassination. The staff of RK Puram police station arrested Sukhwinder, 25 and Lakhan, 21, both acquaintances from Punjab who were sent to Delhi on the instructions of one Prince alias Tuti. “During interrogation, it came out that Prince is facing a murder trial in Faridkot Punjab and is a childhood friend of Lakhan. Mumbai, Feb 27 (PTI): Two days after a vehicle with explosives was found near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani here, police are looking for the other car which had been seen at the spot, an official said on Saturday. The Crime Branch of Mumbai police has recorded the statements of 25 persons in its probe so far, he said. Police teams are trying to track down the Innova in which the driver of the parked vehicle with explosives – a Scorpio SUV -- was seen leaving. The investigators have checked the footage of hundreds of CCTVs on the route the two cars took but have not found any clues yet, the official said. No terror angle has emerged in the probe so far, he said. A Scorpio with 2.5 kg of gelatin sticks, an explosive material, was found near `Antilia’, the multi-storey house of Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, on Thursday evening. A letter found inside the SUV purportedly threatened Ambani and his family. The Scorpio had been stolen from Mulund area a week ago, police said.

States and UTs have been asked to keep a Vaccination Scale-up Plan ready which will include the granular weekly and fortnightly plans for scaling up the vaccination sites both within the government and private facilities and also the number of vaccine doses administered.

In a statement, kilonser Jospeh Rengma said that such move was “certain to collide with the interest of the original indigenous inhabitants, the Rengma people.” Joseph said that the Rengma national workers have taken a strong exception to the proposal, adding that the Rengma people “will never allow Kuki Regional Autonomous Council to be set up in their lands.” He further raised objection to the memorandum submitted by Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Tuliram Ronghang to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to implement Article 244 (A) to upgrade to the level of statehood, saying “this is totally not in the interest of the son of the soil.” Naga Rengma Hills National Workers therefore urged Assam government and the Center to not take hasty decision, lest more problems crop up. Since then, NFHRCC said that despite of many odd situations and difficulties the committee in consonance with the R&B department and with the blessing from the chief minister, the project was going on till date particularly with regard to the Doyang bridge construction. The committee stated that, on the request of the state chief minister, it had handed over the NOC given by the land owners to the chief minister. Accordingly, NFHRCC said the same was sent to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) by the chief minister. Consequent upon which, the committee said the chief engineer and Kolkata-based testing consultancy firm had surveyed and prepared the necessary DPRs. It said the matter has already reached the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and awaiting declaration of the Foothills Project to Trans Nagaland Expressway. While awaiting the mega project, the committee said it has resolved to make the road motorable and has appealed to the state government for providing requisite fund. Gopeshwar, Feb 27 (PTI): One more body was recovered from the banks of the Alaknanda at Marwadi near Joshimath taking the toll in the recent avalanche in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district to 72. The 72nd body was recovered late on Friday evening, Chamoli’s Disaster Management Officer N K Joshi said on Saturday. Meanwhile, rescue operations in the avalanche hitareas continued for the 21st day on Saturday, he said. So far 72 bodies and 30 human body parts have been recovered from different places in the avalanche-hit areas out of which 41 bodies have been identified, he said adding 132 persons are still missing. Meanwhile, the NTPC whose Tapovan-Vishnugad hydel project was one of the worst-hit by the February 7 disaster, has deposited a sum of Rs 3.52 crore in the chief judicial magistrate’s court to be paid as compensation to 25 affected families as per a list issued by the state government, a company spokesperson said.

Tehran, Feb 27 (IANS): Iran will keep supporting the Syrian government in fighting against terrorism, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a telephonic conversation with the Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad. Yangon, Feb 27 (Reuters): Police in Myanmar launched their most sweeping crackdown in three weeks of protests against military rule on Saturday in towns and cities across the country, with media reports of a woman shot dead and dozens of people detained. The violence came after Myanmar’s U.N. envoy urged the United Nations to use “any means necessary” to stop the February 1 coup. Myanmar has been in turmoil since the army seized power and detained elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi and much of her party leadership, alleging fraud in a November election her party won in a landslide. Uncertainty has grown over Suu Kyi’s whereabouts, as the independent Myanmar Now website on Friday quoted officials of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party as saying she had been moved this week from house arrest to an undisclosed location. The coup has brought
into the air, witnesses said. Crowds eventually thinned but police in Yangon were still chasing groups and firing into the air in the late afternoon, witnesses said. Numerous people were seen detained and some beaten through the day. Similar scenes played out in the second city of Mandalay and other towns from north to south, witnesses and media said. Among those detained in Mandalay was Win Mya Mya, one of two Muslim members of parliament for the NLD, media said. At the U.N. General Assembly, Myanmar’s Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun said he was speaking on behalf of Suu Kyi’s government and appealed for “any means necessary to take action against the Myanmar military and to provide safety and security for the people”. “We need further strongest possible action from the international community to immediately end the military coup ... and to restore the democracy,” he said. Delivering his final words in Burmese, the career diplomat raised the three-finger salute of pro-democracy protesters and announced, “Our cause will prevail.”

Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) treasurer, Vezuhu Keyho graced the closing ceremony and gave away prize to the winners. In his address, Keyho reminded the participants that discipline and good manner were the main components to shine in the field of games and sports. Odisha emerged victorious 6-5 in the highest-scoring match in ISL history. Despite the win, Odisha finished rock-bottom while Robbie Fowler’s team ended the campaign on ninth spot. NCA tours Kiphire district DIMAPUR, FEB 27 (NPN): Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) led by it vice president toured Kiphire district from February 26 to 27. A press statement by Kiphire District Cricket Association (KDCA) president, Justin Khatomong T stated that during the NCA’s tour, the officials of KDCA also toured Pungro Sub-Division to promote cricket sporting in the district and inspected the grounds both at Kiphire HQ and Pungro town respectively. KDCA officials highlighted its activities at the district and appealed to the visiting NCA officials to allocate practice pitch at both Kiphire and Pungro Hq respectively and also requested to reconsider for trainings of scores, physical trainers and umpires for KDCA.

Fazza Para Archery: India finish 3rd with 2 gold, 3 silver medals
Dubai, Feb 26 (IANS): Rakesh Kumar on Friday defeated compatriot Shyam Sundar Swami to clinch the Compound Men Open gold medal as India finished their campaign with five medals at the 7th Fazza Para Archery World Ranking Championships-Dubai 2021 here. Overall, India finished third. On the final day of the competition, India claimed a gold and two silver. The other silver was claimed by Jyoti Baliyan. In an all-Indian final, Rakesh (29-28-30-28-28) stayed ahead right from the first end against Swami (26-26-28-28-27) and maintained the momentum until the end. The final score read 143-135. “It was a good learning experience here. Now we go back and train to shoot in
windy condition. We will be back here again for the World Para Archery Championships. Our preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games continues,” said Swami after taking the silver. In the Compound Women Open Final, Baliyan (27-19-27-28-27) showed great resilience to stay in the contest until the end, pushing even a tiebreaker 101-101 after the fourth end. But the Indian fell short in the end by two points losing to Russia’s Stepanida Artakhinova (26-23-26-26-29) 130-128. Overall, India finished third (2 gold, 3 silver) in the medals tally, behind Turkey with 8 medals (3 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze) and Russia with 4 medals (3 gold and 1 silver).
