HC gives Centre 1 month to reply on hate speeches NEW DELHI, FEB 27 (IANS): Delhi High Court on Thursday gave the Central government over a month’s time to file its reply on a petition seeking immediate arrest of three BJP leaders for allegedly inciting violence in northeast Delhi. A Division Bench of Justices D.N. Patel and C. Harishankar passed the order following submissions made by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that it is not “conducive” to file FIRs in the matter at present. The matter will now be heard on April 13. Mehta, who is representing Delhi Police in the violence case, told the Delhi High Court that 48 FIRs have been lodged in relation to the north-east Delhi violence and there be no judicial intervention till normalcy is restored in the national capital. Mehta also said that the Centre is responsible for maintaining law and order in Delhi and therefore, it be made a party in the matter. The court was hearing a petition filed by social activist Harsh Mander praying for arresting of BJP leaders Anurag Thakur, Kapil Mishra and Parvesh Verma for inciting violence in the national capital.

Four days after communal clashes that began in northeast Delhi over the amended citizenship law and spiralled into bloodshed, arson and looting, the body of a man was found in a drain in Johri Enclave and there were scattered incidents of vehicles and shops being set on fire in Maujpur, Bhajanpura and other areas. GTB Hospital in Dilshad Garden, where many of the 200 injured in the riots that broke out on Monday are being treated and where scores of people lined up outside the mortuary to claim the bodies of their loved ones, recorded five more deaths. Eleven more deaths were reported on Thursday, taking the total death toll to 38, a senior Delhi Health Department official told PTI. Delhi Police transferred the riots probe to the Crime Branch and formed two Special Investigation Teams. Battle scarred and desolate with scorched, blackened walls, the ashen remains of vehicles, glass shards and bricks, several fires still burnt in the mostly mixed neighbourhoods of the national capital’s northeastern edge. Shops, pharmacies and other establishments were closed and people stayed indoors unless it was imperative to step out. Several families were seen leaving with whatever they could salvage from their vandalised homes.
Rs 10 lakh for deceased families
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those killed in the communal riots in Delhi, as he listed out several peace and rehabilitation measures. Kejriwal also said an immediate relief of Rs 25,000 would be given to those whose houses have been burnt, while the government would also provide free books and uniforms to students who have lost them to the riot.

NSCN (I-M) MIP said the resolution was arrived after an intense deliberation on the “Indo-Naga political talks” at the February 27 emergency joint council meeting comprising of the collective leadership, members of the collective leadership, steering committee executive members, steering committee members, kilonsers, tatars, head of departments and colonel and above of the Naga Army held at the Council Hqs, Hebron. The meeting also resolved that the Naga national flag and constitution represent Naga national identity and their recognition was “absolutely a matter of Nagas’ rights for an honourable political solution.”

NEW DELHI, FEB 27 (PTI): A row erupted on Thursday over the timing of the transfer of Delhi High Court judge Justice S Muralidhar, who had slammed the police for not registering a case against three BJP leaders for their alleged hate speeches. The Union Law Ministry Wednesday night issued three separate notifications for the transfer of Justice Muralidhar and two other judges-Justice Ranjit Vasantrao More of Bombay High Court and Justice Ravi Vijay Kumar Malimath of Karnataka High Court. Justice Muralidhar was transferred to the Punjab and
Haryana High Court. The notifications said President Ram Nath Kovind approved transfers after consulting the Chief Justice of India. They came on a day when a bench headed by Justice Muralidhar, the third senior-most judge in the Delhi High Court, expressed “anguish” over Delhi police’s failure to register FIRs against alleged hate speeches by BJP leaders Parvesh Verma, Kapil Mishra and Anurag Thakur in connection with the protests against CAA. Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said Justice Muralidhar was transferred on the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium and accused the opposition of politicising a routine transfer. At the BJP party briefing, senior leader and union minister Prakash Javadekar also said the transfer was in line with the recommendation of the Collegium. The Congress alleged that the transfer of Justice Muralidhar was aimed at saving
some BJP leaders in the Delhi violence case and exposed government’s “intimidation and vendetta politics” against the judiciary. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the government of making attempts to “muzzle” justice and “break people’s faith in an upright judiciary”. Taking a dig at the government over what he called Muralidhar’s “sudden” transfer, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Remembering the brave Judge Loya, who wasn’t transferred.” Special CBI judge B H Loya, who was hearing the high-profile Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, died in alleged mysterious circumstances on December 1, 2014. CPI(M) said Justice S Muralidhar’s transfer was a “selective response” to his court order and demanded that transfer order be kept in abeyance to reinforce the people’s confidence in the judicial system.
DIMAPUR, FEB 27 (NPN): Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) has lauded and endorsed the stand taken by the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) and the Central Nagaland Students Association (CNSA) against the ultimatum issued by the NSF on the government of Nagaland. WSH through its media cell, said while the stand of NSF against “rampant backdoor” appointments, was for a better cause yet by “involving outsiders as a part of the signatories in an internal issue of our state, has raised a big question amongst all the tribes of Nagaland.” WSH said that with regard of matters of governance, there was “a clear cut demarcation between Nagaland and other neighbouring state”. WSH therefore asked as to why “some other tribes from neighbouring states should meddle in our business and affairs?.” WSH said Nagaland state is governed by 14 tribes so “we do not need any support or interference from outsider”. Naga Hoho makes a pitch for Pan Naga Hoho DIMAPUR, FEB 27 (NPN): Naga Hoho (NH) Thursday asserted that the contentious issue of Pan Naga Hoho (PNH) needed to be “seriously perused” and expressed the view that PNH should not merely be a cultural body, but “well defined organs” for development of Naga areas and to work for Naga integration in future. NH through its communication cell maintained that PNH would directly benefit the Naga people in general irrespective of regions or areas, adding that it would be “a precursor to the aspiration of the Nagas for integration.” NH stated that Naga political struggle/movement started with the commitment to live together as independent people. NH, however, expressed disheartenment that “many tall Naga leaders have fallen prey to the interest of India” rather than the interests of the Naga people.
Also, asserting that Naga people have been longing to see a lasting peace in the land after more than 23 years of peace talks, the NH said that today some of the Naga leaders were, however, “putting the cart before the horse and continue to confuse the general populace.” The hoho stated that the “negotiators” after realising the contemporary political realities “agreed to have a shared sovereignty between India and the Naga people as two separate entities whereby the “Framework Agreement was signed between the Government of India and the Naga people on 3rd August 2015.” However, NH expressed astonishment that “some organizations and political parties” have started to express doubts/ apprehension and some had even gone to the extent of rejecting it without even realising the content and structure of PNH. The hoho affirmed that
Naga people would not accept any agreement that would further divide the Nagas. It warned that any solution confined to a particular state/area would be nothing but the beginning of “another new chapter of chaos in the Naga society.” According to NH, the agreement must ensure that Naga people were brought together under “befitting political arrangement” that would ensure the dignity and identity as a people. Further, NH asserted that the platform that integrated the Nagas from all the regions would “definitely” strengthen the Nagas all the more. It also opined that collective wisdom which evolves from PNH would serve the Nagas’ interests and aspirations in much broader ways and stronger terms. “The collective expression made by Naga leaders and public of the past for united Nagaland is irrevocable, irreversible and
indelible,” NH stated. The hoho maintained that “inclusive and robust structure” in the form of PNH would give Nagas immense strength to address various issues. It added that Nagas having such a Pan Naga platform would be “definitely liberating, empowering, ensuring the freedom and development of all sections of Nagas.” NH said that the fear created by “self or by others through one sided prejudice speculations” needed to be broadened. Stating that young Nagas must not be swayed by emotions, NH said they should apply their minds and need to search their souls to embrace the rich Naga common heritage that would take the Nagas towards freedom, progress and prosperity. NH underscored that it was high time young Nagas from various regions “must urgently forge to build strong and grand Naga alliance harnessing the opportunity that is at hand.”
NSF comprised of tribes from other states and has the “audacity” to issue ultimatum on “our state government” which has sent a wrong signal to the indigenous tribes of Nagaland. WSH said “the state government should laugh it out at such threats” and reminded that this was the same reason, why all tribes of Nagaland state “withdrew from the once apex bodies of Nagas.”
CNTC backs CNSA demand
Central Nagaland Tribes Council has supported Central Nagaland Students’ Association’s (CNSA) demand that NSF must clarify inclusion of outsiders as signatories in the ultimatum. In a statement, the council emphasised that this was a serious issue which had troubled the Nagas for long and needed to be addressed properly. CNTC stated that student bodies of CNSA presently affiliated to NSF would be reviewed.
It was also resolved that “the political solution shall be ‘Naga Solution’ of the Nagas, wherever they are” and therefore, NSCN (I-M) said it was a bounden duty to uphold the unique history and sovereign rights of Nagas that was “in consonance with the historic 1951 Plebiscite.” Further, the meeting resolved to uphold the “mandate of the Naga people given to NSCN on 21st January, 2005, to conclude an honourable solution to the Indo-Naga political issue and the unification of all Naga areas.” It was resolved that political talks between government of India and NSCN (I-M) “must move forward in the spirit of mutual respect”. It also “condemned in the strongest term, the doublestandard policy of GoI” and warned the latter against using its agencies, including the NIA to arrest and harass NSCN (I-M) members “who are in political negotiations with the GoI for the past 22 years.” The meeting also resolved that NSCN “shall continue to endeavour to conclude an honourable political solution that is acceptable to Naga people.”
Excise deptt continues raid
DIMAPUR, FEB 27 (NPN): Continuing its effort to check the illegal inflow of liquor, the state excise department comprising of the narcoti cell, mobile squad and district excise Dimapur conducted raids along the National Highway-29 areas, Signal Bosti and Industrial Village areas on February 26, 2020. In a press release, commissioner of excise, Tarep Imchen, stated that the teams during the raids seized 1047 bottles of assorted IMFL and three arrested persons, who were penalized under the relevant section of the NLTP Act 1989. On the same day, 120 bottles of IMFL was recovered from the possession of a passenger of a taxi at Excise Check gate, Chumoukedima, said commissioner of excise. He said that all check gate surveillance have been heightened and alerted for any untoward incidents involving inter-state and intra-state smuggling and trafficking of contrabands.
Dmu registers 938 HIV+ve cases from April 2019 to January 2020 DIMAPUR, FEB 27 (NPN): Dimapur registered fresh 938 HIV positive cases between April 2019 and January 2020. This was stated by District AIDS Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU) M&E asst Yanger Aier during the fourth quarterly meeting of District AIDS Prevention & Control Committee (DAPCC) of Dimapur District at DC conference hall here on Thursday, a DIPR report stated. Aier explained that out of the 12,512 persons tested between April 2019 and January 2020, 881 were tested HIV positive, while 57 pregnant women also tested positive from the 4,025 such women tested. According to the official, the route of transmissions were sexual (95%), parent-to-child (3%) and syringes (2%). On antiretroviral therapy (ART), he informed the meeting that altogether 10,836 persons were registered as on January
31, 2020, out of which 7,762 had started ART, 1,020 died, 4,564 were alive and on ART and 613 lost to follow up. The meeting also discussed in length on preventing transmission of HIV from mother to child, various programmes and schemes for infected and affected people, nutritional support and problems faced by beneficiaries to avail benefits, shortage of manpower at ART centre and various possible platforms for awareness. Deputy Commissioner Dimapur Anoop Khinchi, who chaired the meeting, called for better coordination among all stakeholders in the district and for an action plan to achieve the desired goal. DIMAPUR: Liphanyan Students' Union (LSU) Wokha district has strongly questioned the department of School Education, in the recent transfer order of a graduate teacher (English) along with the post from GMS, Liphanyan to GMS Longsa A without the knowledge of VEC, Liphanyan. In a press release, the LSU president, Mhayani Tungoe asked the department on what ground the rationalisation or redeployment was made when GMS Liphanyan was already facing shortage of teachers. LSU also stated that, GMS Liphanyan was awarded the best VEC from Wokha district in the year 2009 and the school was still running smoothly and progressing with a good number of students enrolment. While stating that the new academic session has already started, the LSU pointed out that it will be injustice on the part of department towards the students to let the school function without an English teacher. Union therefore urges the concerned department to either cancel the transfer order of the said teacher or appoint a replacement immediately, failing which the department will be solely responsible for any eventually.

WCSU & EVSU condemn kidnapping incident DIMAPUR: Wokha Circle Students’ Union (WCSU) and Elumyou Village Students’ Union (EVSU) has condemned the “barbaric crime” committed towards one of its student on February 26, allegedly by one Bopin Randam. Rikhyo Yanthan stated that, the accused had kidnapped a student of Government Higher Secondary School Wokha and also a member of Elumyou
Students Union who was appearing for his class XI promotion. The release stated that, the innocent student has been inflicted with mental torture which has also impacted other students with fear psychosis. It was also learnt that the accused along with five of his companions had come with ill intent, where later the student was taken to Kohima from his residential place, Wokha at around 9 a.m on February 26. appealed to all concern citizens to vehemently condemn the barbaric act and those people involved in connection to the incident. It also appealed the law enforcing agencies to book the culprit as per the law. USSC against proxy teachers DIMAPUR: United Sangtam Students' Conference (USSC) has warned against proxy teachers in government schools and transfer of government employees without reliever within its jurisdiction. DIMAPUR: State level training on micro-irrigation under PMKSY was conducted on February 27 at conference hall, Horticulture directorate, Kohima, organised by Horticulture department in collaboration with the North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), ministry of Jal Shakti, India. According to DIPR report, while delivering the keynote address, Qhutovi Wotsa, additional director of Horticulture stated that climate change was affecting the whole world including Nagaland and its impact on water supply was complex. In this he informed that the training was aimed at the importance of an efficient use of water through micro irrigation and how to reduce water wastage. Wotsa also mentioned that through Pradhan Mantra Krishi Yojana (PMKSY) scheme, the people would learn to improve their water use in order to reduce wastage of water.

The state Assembly is slated to pass the Act in the current budget session, while an assent of the Ordinance is pending before the Governor. “ It is not correct to say I have not given my assent. I have pointed out certain problems in implementing the MRSSA because there are clashes with certain central laws and there are problems in implementing them,” Roy said. Moreover, he said that there are no statutory rules in the Act and so it’s not clear how the rules, once framed, would be implemented. “ The Rules got to be there and it has to be seen if the Rules are implementable or not. But once again these are matters that elected government has to decide,” he said. Roy further said that he can merely give his observations and return the Act to the government, but after that he has no option. “I have no alternative, but give my assent. The elected government will have to face the consequences,” the Governor said.

Asser ting that the country was always ready to tackle outbreak of the disease, Choubey said there was no need for panic, particularly by the people living in States sharing international borders. He was talking to reporters on the sideline of a function held at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Imphal during his brief visit to the state capital on Thursday. Choubey claimed his ministry was always on alert so that no lapses occurred in monitoring outbreak of the disease. He assured that the Centre had taken note of the outbreak of COVID-19 in China and had taken measures to monitor the
situation in India. “Government is monitoring the situation closely,” he stated. And in view of the evolving situation and COVID-19 cases being reported from other countries, he said the Health ministry had issued necessary instructions, besides the travel advisories already issued. Mizoram government mulls replacing VCs with Panchayati Raj AIZAWL, FEB 27 ( AGENCIES): The Mizoram government is mulling to shift to Panchayati Raj institution from the existing village council system, said local administration minister K Lalrinliana, reports Northeast Now news. He was replying to a question by opposition Congress leader Zodintluanga Ralte in the state Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. “The concerned department has evolved a plan in this regard though the state government was yet to take the final decision,” Lalrinliana said. He said that the local administration department has formed a drafting committee on the
Panchayati Raj and completed a “concept note.” The state government also sent a team to Sikkim and Tripura to study the Panchayati Raj institution, he said. According to the minister, the matter was discussed once at the cabinet meeting and was kept it aside for revision after the completion of upcoming village council polls. He said that the existing village council system has to be restructured. He added that efforts are on to strengthen administration at rural areas to usher in development. Election to village councils across the state is likely to be held in April.

NEW DELHI, FEB 27 (PTI): In the wake of the communal riots in Delhi, the Press Council of India has advised the media not to glorify violence and desist from publishing or telecasting pictures likely to cause revulsion. The Press Council of India also drew the media’s attention towards the norms of journalistic conduct on covering of communal disputes and clashes. “Press Council of India (PCI) advises the media not to glorify the violence and to desist from publishing/telecasting pictures likely to cause revulsion,” the PCI said in a statement. “News, views or comments relating to communal or religious disputes/ clashes shall be published after proper verification of facts and presented with due caution and restraint in a manner which is conducive to the creation of an atmosphere congenial to communal harmony, amity and peace,” the norms state. “Journalists and columnists owe a very special responsibility to their country in promoting communal peace and amity,” another norm highlighted by the Press Council of India states.
NAGPUR, FEB 27 (PTI): Nobody has right to take the law into their hands and the Centre should ensure that peace is restored in Delhi which has been wracked by communal violence, RSS general secretary Suresh ‘Bhaiyyaji’ Joshi said on Thursday. Necessary action should be taken to restore law and order in the national capital, he said.
The Delhi Fire Service received 19 calls from midnight to 8 am on Thursday from the riot-hit areas, Director of Delhi Fire Service Atul Garg said. Over 100 firemen are deployed in the area and all the four fire stations in the area are provided with extra fire tenders to meet any emergency and are being managed by senior officers, he said. Senior officers are also camping in the riotaffected areas, he added.
The Central Board of Secondary Education has postponed class 10 and 12 exams scheduled on February 28 and 29 in the violence-hit North East Delhi and parts of East Delhi, officials said. The exam postponement announcement by the CBSE came for the third time this week due to communal violence in northeast Delhi over the amended citizenship law which has claimed 38 lives so far and left over 200 people injured. “In view of a request received from the Delhi government and to avoid inconvenience to students, staff and parents, the exams scheduled for February 28 and 29 in North East Delhi and other affected areas stand cancelled. The next date for the affected students will be notified shortly,” CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi said. “All exams in all centres across Delhi will be conducted as per original schedule from March 2 onwards,” he said. The board also announced that it will conduct fresh exams for students who have not been able to appear for the papers in other parts of the national capital due to the violence in northeast Delhi. It has also sought details of the students who failed to appear for exams due to the prevailing situation in the city. “We have asked school principals to send the details to regional offices concerned of the CBSE of all such students of class 10, 12 who have missed out on the exams so far in Delhi, due to these difficult conditions. To reduce the stress on students, the board will conduct fresh exams for them. The next date of exam for the affected students will be notified shortly,” he said. “The board has maintained regular contact with the principals of all schools, especially in the affected areas, and it has been brought to the notice that some students residing in the affected areas have not been able to appear in exams outside the affected areas due to the situation prevailing in the city,” Tripathi added. Frenzied mobs torched houses, shops, vehicles, a petrol pump and pelted stones at locals and police personnel. Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Babarpur, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Chand Bagh and Shiv Vihar are among the areas mainly affected by the riots.

NEW DELHI, FEB 27 (AGENCIES): Charges of murder and arson violence were filed against AAP leader Tahir Hussain, and other unknown people, this evening after it was alleged he was involved in the death of Ankit Sharma, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) employee found dead in one of the areas in northeast Delhi most affected by violence over citizenship law protests. Ankit Sharma, whose body was found in a drain near his home in Jafrabad, was allegedly attacked by a mob and stabbed to death on his way home on Tuesday. The post-mortem report, released today, indicated multiple stab wounds across his body. After the body was found on Wednesday, his father Ravinder Sharma, who is also an IB employee, alleged supporters of Mr Hussain had killed his son. He further alleged his son had been shot after he was beaten. Allegations Mr Hussain was involved in the death of Ankit Sharma were also made today by BJP leader Kapil Sharma, whose pro-citizenship law rally in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur has been linked to the violence that has scarred

He was constantly talking to Kejriwal and AAP leaders,” Mr Mishra, who has a history of incendiary comments, was quoted by news agency ANI. Videos shared with NDTV show a man believed to be Mr Hussain on the roof of a building near Ankit Sharma’s residence with some men who appear to be involved in stonethrowing. There are allegations petrol bombs were thrown from the roof. In the videos, thick smoke rises from below the same building, suggesting Mr Hussain’s house too may have been under attack.
Mr Hussain denied the allegations in a video yesterday and today. He said his family and he “went to a safe place in the presence of police on 24th” and never returned home after that. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal responded to the allegations today, saying: “No one, be it any party, should be spared if they are responsible for inciting violence”. Earlier Kapil Mishra also linked Mr Kejriwal to Mr Sharma’s death, claiming phone call records between the Chief Minister and Tahir Hussain would prove their involvement in Ankit Sharma’s death. Unrelenting violence has consumed northeast Delhi for five straight days as roving mobs armed with iron rods, sticks and guns have defied police orders banning large gatherings to rampage through the streets, committing arson and vandalism and terrifying residents. At least 38 people have been killed and over 200 injured. Delhi Police and the Home Ministry, to whom the cops report, have both said the situation is under control, but the violence has not abated and the death toll has climbed steadily since the first day.

U
S president Donald Trump returned home on February 25 after a two-day hectic trip to India where both he and Indian prime minister Narendra Modi shared the limelight to showcase their personal rapport. There is no doubt that both seemed drawn to each other while they used the theatrics of diplomacy to strike a chord with their respective domestic audiences. Over the past 14 years India has hosted a US president three times, Pakistan has hosted none. President Donald Trump’s two-day visit further hardens the de-hyphenation of India from Pakistan in US foreign policy. The most dramatic manifestation of this break was George W. Bush’s civilian nuclear deal with India-- a deal Pakistan asked for and did not get. The last US President to make a state visit to Pakistan was George W. Bush in early March 2006, a trip that included India. Barack Obama never went there despite the fact that he visited India twice (2010 and 2015). This needs to be seen in the context of how India and the US have been drawn by common interests such as-- one that encompasses Pakistan agenda the concerns counterterrorism, China, and global issues such as trade and energy. The US is India’s second-largest trading partner after China, with annual bilateral trade going from $11bn in 1995 to $142bn in 2018, according to official US data. But the two countries have been wrangling over a trade deal as Trump pushed for more concessions from New Delhi. On the eve of his departure, Trump addressed a press conference where he was more concerned with maintaining the ‘feel-good’ factor. He showed his usual and bizarre grasp of issues at the press conference. When asked if he raised the issue of religious intolerance with Modi, the US president said he did and “the Indian prime minister was incredible in what he told me. He wants people to have religious freedom and very strongly.” The flowering of Trump’s admiration and affection for Modi appeared to resonate the packed schedule that took Trump to Modi’s home region, the Taj Mahal visit and the Rashtrapati banquet before leaving New Delhi. Trump left with no trade deal but happy to sell American military equipment already agreed upon earlier. One might ask “so what was the big deal, anyway?.” Even if the riots and mob violence were aberrations of embarrassments; yet these were no big deal for Donald Trump. He chose to look the other way and as the President of the world’s most powerful democracy, Trump did no justice to his nation. It may be noted that both are right-wing leaders whose pursuit of an Islamophobic agenda have been criticised - Trump for his Muslim ban and Modi for blocking naturalisation for Muslim immigrants and asylum seekers. The visit termed as ‘historic’ came against the backdrop of violence in Delhi outside but this and the CAA issue were ignored by Trump. Unlike Obama, who expressed deep concern over intolerance to other religious minorities, Trump cared more about having a trade deal with Modi. In the final analysis, the Trump and Modi show dominated the trip and it was disappointing that Trump, as the leader of the most powerful democracy, missed an opportunity to give his ‘good friend Modi’ the leader of the world’s largest democracy, friendly advice on how to treat all citizens equally, in true democratic spirit.

Think of the depths of human nature and human life; think of the depth of the “wells” in you. Have you been limiting, or impoverishing, the ministry of Jesus to the point that He is unable to work in your life? Suppose that you have a deep “well” of hurt and trouble inside your heart, and Jesus comes and says to you, “Let not your heart be troubled…” (John 14:1). Would your response be to shrug your shoulders and say, “But, Lord, the well is too deep, and even You can’t draw up quietness and comfort out of it.” Actually, that is correct. Jesus doesn’t bring anything up from the wells of human nature— He brings them down from above. We limit the Holy One of Israel by remembering only what we have allowed Him to do for us in the past, and also by saying, “Of course, I cannot expect God to do this particular thing.” The thing that approaches the very limits of His power is the very thing we as disciples of Jesus ought to believe He will do. We impoverish and weaken His ministry in us the moment we forget He is almighty. The impoverishment is in us, not in Him. We will come to Jesus for Him to be our comforter or our sympathizer, but we refrain from approaching Him as our Almighty God. The reason some of us are such poor examples of Christianity is that we have failed to recognize that Christ is almighty. We have Christian attributes and experiences, but there is no abandonment or surrender to Jesus Christ. When we get into difficult circumstances, we impoverish His ministry by saying, “Of course, He can’t do anything about this.” We struggle to reach the bottom of our own well, trying to get water for ourselves. Beware of sitting back, and saying, “It can’t be done.” You will know it can be done if you will look to Jesus. The well of your incompleteness runs deep, but make the effort to look away from yourself and to look toward Him.

he moral resistance to this brutalisation is feeble. And then there is the abdication of the state. Even as policeman themselves become victim of the games their masters play, there is no doubt that the state could have stopped the violence more quickly if it had wanted. India is descending into a night of dread and despair. The ongoing riots in Delhi are not a tactical aberration, some absentminded lapse of attention. They have been in the making for a while, and represent the future that our ruling classes, with our aid and support, have imagined for us. The idea is to carpet bomb the Indian republic as we know it, and replace it with a regime that thrives on cruelty, fear, division and violence. Even as the politics of revenge starts, it is important not to forget the dynamics that led up to this moment. As was clear from the start, the purpose of the CAA was not to solve the problem of non-Muslims refugees from our neighbouring states. That objective could have been achieved by a bill that did not discriminate on the basis of religion and did not align religious identity with the prospects of citizenship. CAA and NPR processes were never credibly made. The result was a civic cruelty of the worst kind, where millions of ordinary Indians, especially Muslims, were made uncertain about what this process meant for them. The spectre of camps is too hard to ignore. The protests and violence could have been easily stopped, and still can be halted, if the government commits to legislation that does not discriminate, and a process that does not put the civic standing of anyone living in India at risk. The effect of the government’s refusal to do this was to humiliate minorities, and keep the issue on the boil. The Supreme Court gave the cruelest blow of all. By refusing to send a clear signal on basic rights of habeas cor pus, the checks against preventive detention, the court decimated the Constitution that binds us together. By systematically appearing to side with government on practically every issue, by delaying hearings on something as fundamental as discrimination, by genuflecting paeans to the Great Leader, it dashed all hopes of fair constitutional adjudication. Citizens had to turn to other non-violent means of civic protest. These non-violent civic protests, spearhead-
ed by women, minorities and students, resolutely stuck to a grammar of non-violence and constitutionalism. This was despite repeated provocation and the fact that it is legally difficult to protest in India. There was some violence in states like UP. But that was used as a pretext to unleash an unprecedented reign of repression and cruelty by the government. There was always the danger that long and sustained protests with no attempt at a dialogue open the way for radical elements to take over. In fact, the government was waiting for even the slightest hint of that radicalisation which leaders like Waris Pathan, or a gun-brandishing hothead would obligingly provide. But it is important to remember: The government uses the fear of radicalism as a pretext, far in excess of the reality of the phenomenon. The real cruelty was the government’s strategy. In Delhi, the protests were allowed to continue in Shaheen Bagh, not because the government was soft. It thought it could use the protest as pretext to consolidate majoritarian sentiment: Look at these minorities blocking roads and standing against Hindu rights, went
the refrain. The BJP’s poisonous campaign during the Delhi election was a classic Catch 22. First, we discriminate. Then we make sure there is no institutional redress. If there is protest, we use it as further proof of the perfidy of minorities, intellectuals and other so-called anti-nationals. BJP leaders then call for violence to be unleashed, and when violence is unleashed, we blame them for violence. Never has a more diabolical moral circle been created. Meanwhile, other institutions merrily failed us. So many brave reporters have put their lives on the line to bring us reports from the frontline. But the institution of the media failed to put the requisite pressure on the government. They are too much in awe or too intimidated by the Home Minister to press basic questions of accountability. The Opposition parties have been like deer caught in a headlight at best, morally mendacious at worst. The Delhi CM is reduced to staging photo-ops at Rajghat; the rest of the Opposition seems to muster about as much energy as it takes to put out a tweet. It has more consultants than convictions or courage. It is the first time in independent India that minorities cannot turn to

he cover page of the Time’s magazine with the portrait of Modi donned in a black Nehru coat with a saffron scarf was published on May 9, 2019. The article carried a compelling title which read as ‘INDIA’S DIVIDER IN CHIEF’. Shortly after it was published, it evoked widespread criticisms from the ruling party especially on Twitter with bots and fake handles of the ruling party making a scathing attack on the author as well as the magazine. But it managed to strike a chord with the many who have had enough with the supreme leader who absolutely had no remorse for the 2002 Godhra carnage and the incidents thereafter. The BJP, a far right extremist party rose to power in 2014 riding on the waves of Modi and again in 2019 banking on pseudo-nationalism after the Balakot airstrike was conducted discreetly. Mr. Modi, the man solely responsible for the pogrom while he was still the Chief Minister of Gujarat was denied visa by the United States barring him from entering the country in 2005 for failing to thwart let alone condemn the 2002 incident. The Godhra incident was a state-sponsored terrorism where the Muslims were selectively targeted, maimed, lynched and killed brutally. Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party which was in ruling at the state incited and instigated the Hindu fanatics and right wing fringe elements to launch assault on the Muslims. The entire state-machinery was unleashed to aid the rioters to carry out the attack without any hindrance. Rajdeep Sardesai of India today in his book ‘How Modi won India, 2019’ writes, (quote) ‘Senior Gujarat journalist Rajiv Shah tells a story that perhaps best epitomizes the darker aspects of the Amit Shah persona. In mid-March 2002, barely weeks after the communal riots in which more than a thousand people lost their lives, Rajiv bumped into Shah as he was coming out of the chief minister’s office in Gandhinagar. Concerned about the spiraling violence, Rajiv opened up an informal conversation. ‘Why don’t you take the initiative to bring the communities together in Ahmedabad, especially in your Sarkhej constituency?’ he asked Shah. Sarkhej has a large Muslim population, most of which lives in the ghetto-like suburb of Juhapura. A series of mini-riots over the years had created an informal ‘border’ between
the Hindu and Muslim dominated areas in the constituency. ‘Why are you so concerned over the rioting?’ was Shah’s sharp response. Rajiv was surprised by the reaction from the public representative but then explained that he had an apartment in Sarkhej and was anxious as violence still simmered in the region. ‘If you take the initiative and bring Hindu and Muslim leaders on one platform, I am sure the area will become tension-free,’ suggested Rajiv. Shah smiled knowingly and replied: ‘Which side of Sarkhej is your house situated, ours or theirs?’ When a mystified Rajiv gave the location, Shah responded instantly: ‘Don’t worry then, nothing will happen to your home. Whatever incidents take place, they will occur on the other side of the border.’ Rajiv was stunned by the insensitivity of the answer. ‘Here was my legislator, openly referring to the Hindu–Muslim divide in his area as if only one side has to be worried if there is a riot.’(unquote) The same MoSha who was then the Chief Minister and the Home Minister of Gujarat state under whose patronage the massacre was carried out successfully has taken over New Delhi today as the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister respectively. History seems to be repeating itself and incidentally even the year! What started as a hate speech would later turn out to be a full-scale riot. BJP leaders have time and again raised provocative slogans against the Anti-CAA protestors. Kapil Mishra who unsuccessfully contested the Delhi Assembly elections on BJP ticket was the first to make the statement ‘Desh ke gadaaro ko goli maro’ (shoot the traitors of the country) in a Pro-CAA rally in the presence of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in December, 2019. The same was invoked by none other than the Minister of state for Finance Anuraq Thakur during the Delhi Assembly elections and further amplified by their ilks. There have been brutal attacks on educational institutions such as Jamia Milia University, Aligarh Muslim University and Jawaharlal Nehru University and even the students were not spared from the onslaught of the right wing elements. The long tirade of the BJP leaders and the pliable institutions and media who have long forgotten to do their job properly have made the matter worse. The attack on Muslims in Delhi is the end result of the continued hate
speech made by BJP leaders. The attack happened at a time when Trump made his maiden visit to India. ‘NaMoste Trump’ was the headline in all the Primetime news channels. There was little or no coverage of the carnage which took place just 15 kms from where POTUS and FLOTUS was staying. Modi was busy revelling with his friend Trump according him the same welcome during his visit to Houston September last. There was no alacrity from the PMO or the Home Ministry to take stock of the situation. The police which falls directly under the command of the Union Home Ministry chose to be in nexus with the rioters since there was no direction from the high command. There has been a complete fallout of the state machinery. And just when there seemed to be a ray of hope in the form of Justice Muralidhar of Delhi HC who directed the registration of FIR against BJP leaders Kapil Mishra, Anurag Thakur, Pravesh Verma and Abhay Verma for making hate speeches. The Modi govt which left no stones unturned to sabotage the prime institutions of this country has put a dent even in the judiciary. The careful timing to transfer Justice Muralidhar to Punjab and Haryana pretty much sums up the sinister design of the duo Modi-Shah. Modi who is known for his theatrics appeared after the dust settled down just like the police in the Bollywood movies and chose to make an appeal through Twitter only after the violence entered its 3rd day. The death toll now stands at 32 and counting while several hundreds are injured. Mosques have been desecrated. There are stories of horror from every corner of NorthEast Delhi. The arson against the Muslims have been carried out systematically. The army has been called in though its already late. The situation in Delhi is still tense. There is miniscule effort to restore peace but there are qualms in the minds of everyone and the atmosphere will never be the same again. Even as I’m writing this piece on my way to Delhi. I fear what awaits me. But can we put the blame squarely on Modi? In 2014, he promised to bring Gujarat Model to India. And he has fulfilled at least this one promise. any electoral formation or force to provide even basic protection. This is the depth of corrosion of normal politics. Such a deep political vacuum is bound to be filled by forces we cannot predict. Meanwhile, so much of civil society resembles a scene of moral desolation. The casual legitimisation of violence against minorities and the inversion of all moral values is at an unprecedented level. People cheer as “Jai Shri Ram” has moved from being a call to piety to almost a call for killing. Someday a sociologist will have to decipher the phenomenon of hordes of young men now looking to feel alive, to get a sense of purpose, by participating in mayhem. Even apart from the communal angle, the availability of this mass of young men on the streets betokens a society that increasingly has little sense of its own future. The national anthem is sung while brutal assaults take place, mosques nonchalantly “conquered”. And we are back to a barbarism where crowds threaten to strip you to ascertain if you have a right to any civic standing. The pur pose is to strip us of all the decencies of ordinary humanity; the only thing that matters will be the identity

The Delhi violence will hopefully stop, but it is just an event in a larger chain. If the literature on riots is any guide, the Delhi riots look more like a prelude to a possible pogrom, or at least ghettoisation. The state looks for a pretext to crack down; the crack down is disproportionately targeted at particular communities, especially their businesses; the police and political establishment are bystanders or egging on the violence. The government can still do the right thing: Ensure fair law and order, and address the underlying anxiety it has itself produced. India will have to mobilise in full force to resist this brutalisation. Otherwise our republic will become what our rulers want it to be: A charnel house of rotted moralities, a nation that measures itself by the cruelties it can inflict. Pratap Bhanu Mehta
Let’s fight honestly

n 25th February, I happened to come across a short article in Nagaland Post “Reader’s Post” entitled “Appeal to CM and Chairman NBCC” written by one Yohan JB from Medziphema questioning them whether Nagaland was still a Dry State. It was a little bit funny but very true and meaningful, at least to me. I believe they might ignore his questions so I, as an elderly Naga, would like to share something on this. In 2016, a couple of months before my retirement, I went to Chennai on a one day official meeting where an old friend of mine who is much younger than me also came from Lucknow to attend the same meeting. During lunch break, people started asking me about how it is to live in a Dry State, my friend from Lucknow who is also an occasional drinker like me said that his wife often pray to God to make his post get transferred to a dry State like Nagaland saying only something like that could cure him of his drinking habit. Others too started asking me questions on this. I don’t know from where I got the idea but I suddenly dropped the cup of tea I was holding and let it fall on the floor. In the confusion, I excused myself and went to the washroom where I spent sometime playing a game on my mobile. Luckily when I came out, the lunch break was
over and the topic wasn’t discussed again. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if God answers the prayer of my friend’s wife, will she blame God or will she blame the Nagas once she finds out the truth of our namesake Dry State. The reality is Alcohol is available almost every where in Nagaland. The MC Rum which are given to horses and Mithuns in other states is the most consumed liquor in our State. I am sure everyone will agree when I say that the Hornbill festival, during the nights are like a Drinking Festival. Even most of the remote villages or towns in Nagaland have liquor home-shops where we can sit and drink or just buy so just imagine how many Check-Gates the concerned people must be crossing successfully while transporting it. I feel it’s high time we must face reality. Once in a while we see pictures of seized alcohol along with some police personnels on the local dailies but that doesn’t stop the flow of alcohol, it only rises it’s price. “Dry State” has always been a failure. If we can’t win, accept our defeat and like Mr Yohan suggested in his point no. 2, allow the Nagas to consume less poisonous and better liquors and give license to young jobless Nagas to run these business. India’s annual defence exports to India evacuates 112 from China, 124 from Japan touch Rs 35,000 cr by 2024: Rajnath NEW DELHI, FEB 27 (PTI): India on Thursday brought back 112 people from the coronavirus-hit Chinese city of Wuhan and another group of 124 from Tokyo who were on board a cruise ship infected by the deadly virus. A C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft of Indian Air Force evacuated 76 Indians and 36 foreign nationals from Wuhan while an Air India flight brought back the group of 124 people from Tokyo. The foreign national evacuated from Wuhan included 23 from Bangladesh, six from China, two each from Myanmar and Maldives and one each from South Africa, USA and Madagascar. Besides 119 Indians, the people evacuated from Japan included two from Sri Lanka and one each from Nepal, South Africa and Peru. The group was among 3,711 people who were on board the coronavirus-infected Diamond Princess ship when it docked at the Yokohama port near Tokyo on February 3. “In line with India’s

Earlier, India had evacuated around 650 Indians from Wuhan in two Air India flights. “In all 723 Indian nationals and 43 foreign nationals have been evacuated from Wuhan, China in these three flights,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. On the medical supplies delivered by India to China, the MEA said they will help augment the country’s efforts to control the coronavirus outbreak which has been declared as a public health emergency by the World Health Organisation. “The assistance is also a mark of friendship and solidarity from the people of India towards the people of China as the two countries also celebrate 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations this year,” it said.
BENGALURU, FEB 27 (PTI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday projected that the annual Indian defence exports will touch Rs 35,000 crore by 2024 from the current level of Rs 17,000 crore. Singh also said he has no doubt about India emerging as among the three major economies of the world by 2030 andthe defence industries will have an important role to play. “India’s defence export is growing. In the last two years our export has been Rs 17,000 crore but keeping in view your (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) capacity in the successive years, I can say that by 2024 Rs 35,000 crore. I am confident about it,” the Defence minister said at the Karnataka ‘Rajyotsava’ event organised at the HAL here. The atmosphere in Karnataka is conducive for science and technology, which provided base for HAL to have its headquarters here in Bengaluru, he noted.

Mumbai, Feb 27 (PTI): The Indian rupee finished 6 paise higher at 71.59 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday amid easing crude oil prices and weakening of the greenback overseas. Forex traders said the rupee consolidated in a narrow range as gains were restricted by sustained foreign fund outflows and robust selling in domestic equities. Moreover, market participants will be keeping an eye on third quarter GDP growth number scheduled to be released on Friday. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local currency opened at 71.65 to the US dollar. During the day, it swung between a high of 71.55 and a low of 71.69. The domestic unit finally finished at 71.59, up 6 paise from its previous close. Meanwhile, investor sentiment remained fragile amid concerns over the coronavirus outbreak turning into a pandemic, traders said. The death toll from the virus epidemic now stands at 2,744 in mainland China and there are now nearly 81,000 cases in total. “Rupee consolidated in a narrow range but traded with a slightly negative bias against the US dollar ahead of the preliminary GDP number that will be released from the US later this evening,” said Gaurang Somaiyaa, Forex & Bullion Analyst, Motilal Oswal Financial Services.

New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI): Vodafone Idea has demanded fixing minimum tariffs for mobile data at Rs 35 per GB, around 7-8 times of current prices, and for calls at 6 paise per minute along with monthly charges from April 1 to enable it pay statutory dues and make its business sustainable. The loss-making telco is under pressure to clear adjusted gross revenue dues of more than Rs 50,000 crore to comply with a Supreme Court order. The company has sought 18 years time to clear the dues, including a three-year moratorium on payment of interest and penalty, according to official sources. “There are number of demands that Vodafone Idea has put across the government for its survival. The company wants minimum price of data should be fixed at Rs 35 per gigabyte and minimum monthly connection charge at Rs 50 from April 1, 2020. These are tough demands which is a problem for government to fulfil,” an official told PTI on the condition of anonymity. Current mobile internet prices are in the range of Rs

Guwahati, Feb 27 (IANS): The government was “steadily but clearly” moving towards a less regressive taxation system and removing the criminal angles which are unwanted in every Act dealing with tax issues, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Thursday. “Eventually, we hope to have in India a simplified taxation structure, completely reduced rates of taxation, and therefore an easy-to-comply system. So as regards taxation we went in that route. “Now, if you notice, as we are talking of removing or reducing the personal income tax, we removed the dividend Distribution Tax totally. So every time we are taking a step towards simplifying, we are removing that which is seen as a double taxation, or a regressive taxation,” Sitharaman said during an interaction with traders and industry representatives here on the Union Budget 2020-21. Geneva/Washington, Feb 27 (PTI / IANS): The UN human rights chief on Thursday voiced “great concern” over India’s amended citizenship law and reports of “police inaction” in the face of communal attacks in Delhi, urging political leaders to prevent violence. Updating the ongoing 43rd Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on human rights developments around the world, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet also spoke about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. She said the Citizenship A m e nd m e nt A c t (CAA) adopted last year by India’s Parliament was of “great concern”. “Indians in huge numbers, and from all communities, have expressed - in a mostly peaceful manner - their opposition to the Act, and support for the country’s long tradition of secularism,” she said. “I am concerned by reports of police inaction in

Protests have been planned in the four US cities of Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco and New York on Friday against the violence in New Delhi that has so far claimed 33 lives, a media report said. The protests have been organised by a group named South Asian Students Against Fascism under the banner of “Emergency! Stop State Sanctioned Violence in India”, the American Bazaar said in the report on Wednesday. Participants will gather in front of Indian Consulates in the four cities. The organising group calls itself a movement of South Asian students who are together in the fight against fascism, religious intolerance and polarization. 9 China COVID-19 toll: 2,744 Beijing, Feb 27 (IANS): As the overall coronavirus toll in China increased to 2,744 with 78,497 confirmed cases, a Chinese health expert on Thursday said that the coronavirus outbreak would be “basically under control” in the country by the end of April. “Although there was a large outbreak in Wuhan (epidemic’s epicentre), we did not see massive outbreaks in other cities,” the South China Morning Post newspaper quoted Zhong Nanshan, China’s top respiratory disease expert, as saying. “We predicted earlier that the peak should take place in mid or late February, due to the strong intervention by the state and the cancellation of travel peaks after Chinese New Year Holiday. “It turned out the number of cases began to drop after February 15. Our forecast was similar to some other foreign authoritative experts, and we are confident that the epidemic would be basically under control in April,” the expert added. On Thursday, China’s National Health Commission said that it received
reports of 433 new confirmed cases and 29 deaths on Wednesday from 31 provincial-level regions on the mainland. Among the deaths, 26 were in Hubei province, and one each in Beijing, Heilongjiang and Henan. The Commission added that 2,358 people were still suspected of being infected with the virus, while a total of 32,495 have been discharged from hospital after recovery. Spielberg pulls out from ‘No Time To Die’ set to be directing ‘Indiana Jones 5’ longest James Bond film yet S

o Time To Die looks set to be the longest James Bond film in the franchise’s history. The long-awaited 25th instalment of Bond is due for release on April 2, and will be Daniel Craig’s final outing as the iconic spy. As further details surrounding the plot continue to emerge, it now appears that the upcoming dose of 007 will offer us more Bond than ever before. According to a listing from US cinema chain Regal, No Time To Die will
clock in at a total runtime of 163 minutes (2 hours 43 minutes). This means – if accurate – that the new film will beat the record currently held by Spectre, which is 2 hours and 40 minutes long overall. No Time To Die will pick up five years after the events of the last movie, introducing a retired James Bond who is enjoying a quiet new life in Jamaica. Yesterday, a behindthe-scenes video feature was shared online offering
an insight into the film from director Cary Joji Fukunaga. The filmmaker described No Time To Die as “a culmination of all that Bond has become. It’s all that he’s seen, all the trauma, the loss.” The film’s official synopsis reads: “In No Time To Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. “The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.” Meanwhile, Billie Eilish has shared her highly-anticipated theme for the 25th James Bond film. That’s according to sources who told Variety the franchise’s longstanding director will hand the reins to another filmmaker to breathe new life into the fifth installment. The decision, a source close to Spielberg said, was entirely the director’s own. A deal hasn’t closed, however Ford v Ferrari director James Mangold is reportedly in talks to take over from Spielberg. Mangold had a similar experience when he was enlisted for the Wolverine franchise, helping 2017’s Logan gross $619 million globally. The writer/director also got an Oscar nod for best adapted screenplay. Indiana Jones 5 has had many setbacks. Disney first announced it in 2016, with Spielberg directing and Harrison Ford reprising the iconic titular role he’s played since 1981. The film was originally
slated for a July, 19 2019 release. That was then pushed back to July 10, 2020 and delayed again to July 9, 2021. The latest postponement was due to Jonathan Kasdan (son of Raiders of the Lost Ark writer Lawrence Kasdan) coming on board to handle the script after screenwriter David Koepp left the project. Ford, meanwhile, remains on the project. During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning this month he said that he was “going to start doing ‘Indiana Jones’ in about two months”, and then days later told HeyUGuys that the project is still facing “scheduling issues and a few script things” and that “we’re determined to get it right before we get it made.” (NME)

verything will be remembered, Everything recorded”, Pink Floyd cofounder and legendar y musician Roger Waters said recently as he read out Delhi student Aamir Aziz’s poem at a protest here and described the Citizenship (Amendment) Act as “fascist” and “racist”. The 76-year-old singerlyricist was participating in a protest last week to demand the release of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who has been in jail in the UK since April 2019. A video from the protest showing Waters reciting the English version of Aziz’s popular poem “Sab Yaad Rakha Jayega” has been circulating widely on Twitter and other social media platforms. “This is a young man none of us know, his name is Aamir Aziz. He is a young poet and activist in Delhi. He is involved in the fight against Modi and his fascist, racist citizenship law. I will read a little bit

ccording to various online retailers, the new Deep Purple album will be titled “Whoosh!” and will be released on June 12 via earMUSIC. The legendary rockers’ 21st studio LP was once again helmed by Canadian producer Bob Ezrin (Kiss, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper), who also worked on Deep Purple’s last two studio albums, 2017’s “Infinite” and 2013’s “Now What?!” Deep Purple will promote “Whoosh!”’s release by embarking on a five-date U.K. tour in October with special guests Blue Öyster Cult. Last fall, Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover told the Chicago Sun-Times that he and his bandmates planned to keep recording new music. “We’ve been working a bit,” he revealed. “There’s
a few things around, we don’t know yet what’s, where, or when, but we’ve not stopped yet. “There’s a danger, of course, if you’ve become successful, that people want you to do the same thing and be successful all over again and keep going, but it doesn’t work that way,” he added. “You can’t just simply repeat yourself.” Having released six albums since 1996, Glover said everyone in Purple has been committed to keeping things fresh. “I think that there was almost an unspoken desire to move forward, to not repeat ourselves,” he explained. “Of course, the players are the same, so the sounds can be the same in all the style or something like that. David Warner and Aaron Finch combined for a 120-run opening stand before Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar returned combined figures of 5/26 from seven overs to seal a 97-run victory at the Newlands Cricket Ground on Wednesday. Expect Tokyo Olympics to go ahead as scheduled: Rijiju
New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI): Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said he expects this year’s Tokyo Olympics to go ahead smoothly despite fears being expressed over the fate of the Games amid the novel coronavirus threat. The Olympic Games are scheduled to be held in July-August this year but a senior IOC member Dick Pound has said that the event might have to be cancelled if the deadly coronavirus outbreak is not brought under control by May. “Virus China mein hai, Tokyo mein Nahi (the virus is in China not Tokyo),” Rijiju said in response to questions about the Games on the sidelines of a workshop to sensitise Indian athletes about Japanese etiquette and culture here. Rijiju said the current situation demands that nations come together to fight the crisis. “We have to fight every situation together. I expect Tokyo Olympics to start July 24 on time and go ahead smoothly,” he said. “World is a community, we have to support each other,” he added. New Delhi, Feb 27 (IANS): South Korea has sought clarity on India’s stand on its athletes participating in the upcoming ISSF World Cup which will be held in New Delhi from March 15 to 26. In a letter to Raninder Singh, President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), the Korea Shooting Federation pointed that while the organising committee had on February 12 assured it of allowing the South Korean shooters to participate, it wants further clarity in light of a travel advisory put out by India on February 26. “Currently, most of the Korean athletes are wishing to acquire MQS at the ISSF World Cup -- New Delhi. However, there is a great deal of concern and worry among athletes and officials that they might not be able to participate. Furthermore, we have completed the payment of flight tickets and visa issuance fee,” said Korea Shooting Federation Secretary
