EC declares poll dates for 5 states NEW DELHI, FEB 26 (PTI): Voting for five assembly elections will begin on March 27, the Election Commission announced Friday with West Bengal set to hold eight-phase polls and Assam three. Counting for all the seats will be held on May 2. To be held till April 29 amid the coronavirus pandemic, the elections are expected to witness a determined attempt by BJP to put a strong show, including in Assam where it is already in power, as well as in West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry where the saffron party has been pushing hard in recent years. As many as 18.68 crore voters will be eligible to cast their votes at 2.7 lakh polling stations for 824 assembly seats across Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Trinamool Congress and many other Opposition parties questioned the rationale behind eight phases in West Bengal even though CEC said it is “not such a big deal” as last time, there were seven phases. Responding to questions on the increased number of phases in Bengal, the CEC said when the EC assesses the law-and-order situation, the assessment is based on several factors. He also spoke about the problem of maternal mortality and urged the State government to reduce the maternal mortality rate. “Pregnancy is a boon and not a curse,” he emphasised. Sharing his desire for India to become the first nation to achieve the goal of health for all, he appealed to the people of Mon to contribute in realising the dream of Modi for a new India by 2022 when India celebrates its 75th Independence Day. No new COVID-19 +ve case reported in State DIMAPUR, FEB 26 (NPN): No new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the State on Friday while the active cases also dropped to 9. The total caseload as on February 26 stood at 12198 and 11946 patients have recuperated from the infection. M e a n w h i l e, S t a t e health & family welfare Friday informed that a total of 35,262 doses of the Covishield vaccine have been administered across the state for healthcare and frontline workers till date.
State Immunization Officer (UIP) Dr. Ritu Thurr said that as of today, 10,159 healthcare workers have been vaccinated with a coverage of 48% and 19,606 frontline workers have received the vaccine with a coverage of 37%. Dr. Thurr said that no major adverse events needing medical intervention has been reported till date. Dr.Thurr stated that last date for first dose vaccination of frontline workers would be March 1, 2021, followed mop up sessions till March 6, 2021.

DIMAPUR, FEB 26 (NPN): In a major boost to export perishable items and ensure timely transport of local produce to other parts of the country, the Centre has approved starting of air cargo operation from Dimapur airport. This was announced by Airports Authority of India (AAI) Dimapur airport director, M Zhimo at a meeting of stakeholders on air cargo at Hotel Saramati here on Friday.
Zhimo said the cargo terminal-- Common User Domestic Cargo Terminal (CUDCT) had already been constructed but, unfortunately due to pandemic, the airport did not have equipment required like x-ray machine, scanner and other items to process CUDCT and start air cargo operations. One solution for Naga issue not possible, says Therie Correspondent
KOHIMA, FEB 26 (NPN): Reacting to the recent assembly resolution for ‘one solution’ of Naga political issue, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, K Therie, Friday said that “one solution is not possible” and maintained that proposition made by the state government was, therefore, “vague and selfcontradictory”. Addressing a presser at Congress Bhavan here Friday afternoon, Therie said since that NPCC did not agree with the recent assembly resolution asking for “One Solution” since the legislators themselves have ruled out the issue of integration. “Without integra-
tion how is the government planning to have one solution for all the indigenous Naga inhabitants of Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar?” Therie asked. He also said that since governor RN Ravi has clarified that there was nothing more to discuss in regard to the “Indo-Naga” issue, the Government of India should be reasonable to the Naga people and implement whatever agreement has been made so far. Therie said NPCC has resolved to appeal the Centre and State governments to implement the solution since Nagaland governor has said that talks on the issue have been concluded. “When every Naga is yearning for peace why is
the solution still not implemented because there is no more reason for it to be kept pending,” NPCC chief further queried. He alleged that the government has become “antipeople” by yearning to prolong the talks through their demand of one solution. Therie pointed out that except for Adinno Phizo’s group, every group had been included in the peace talks held in the last 24 years. While the details of the framework agreement were yet to be worked out, Therie said all the necessary details have been worked out in the agreed position. Therefore, he said that no one can claim that they have been excluded in the talks. Further, Therie said
that on August 18, 2015 during his visit to Dubai, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi had lauded the Framework Agreement saying the Nagaland political issue had been resolved. Also, he said that in September 2020, the Centre had informed that talks would be concluded by October 31 and solution would be implemented. NPCC president, therefore, asked “how many times is the Centre going to bluff and betray the Nagas, we are the public and also faithful citizens who do not deserve to be betray like this.” Therie, who casts aspersion on the credibility of EVM, urged all the political parties in the State including the government to consider

COVID-19 guidelines to continue till Mar 31
NEW DELHI, FEB 26 (PTI): Ministry of Home Affairs Friday said the existing COVID-19 guidelines will remain in force till March 31. In a statement, the MHA said while there has been a substantial decline in the active and new COVID19 cases, there is need to maintain surveillance, containment and caution so as to fully overcome the pandemic. The states and union territories have also been advised to speed up the vaccination of the target population so as to break the chain of transmission. Accordingly, containment zones continue to be (Cont’d on p-6) demarcated carefully; pre-
scribed containment measures strictly followed within these zones; COVID-appropriate behaviour promoted and strictly enforced; and the SOPs prescribed in respect of various permitted activities followed scrupulously, the home ministry said. Therefore, the focussed approach on surveillance, containment and strict observance of the guidelines and SOPs, as envisaged in the guidelines issued on January 27 need to be enforced strictly by states and union territories, it said. Speaking at the programme as special guest, advisor animal husbandry and veterinary services and women resource, R. Khing advocated on the need to rebuild the department of Animal Husbandr y and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) with more sincerity and dedication. The advisor reminded that department of VH&VS was an essential
department amongst agri and allied sector and that there was a need to improve production of meat in the state. He also advised them to stay away from the attitude of drawing salaries without work or contribution of services to the society and encouraged to give their best in propagation, production and contribution of meat in the state. Lauding the retiring officers for rendering their best service to the organisation, he said that the legacy and inspiration they left behind would be remembered. enviable job unless one was fully committed. He also cautioned the officers that there were high chances of being subjective in their approach during investigations rather than being objective and therefore a balanced approach was required. He further maintained that unless there was a political will to fight corruption, there would be no accountability, transparency, delegation and decentralisation of responsibility in the system. Dimapur police recover unidentified body
DIMAPUR: Dimapur Police has recovered an unidentified dead body of a non-Naga (male/50-55 yrs approx) from Dimapur Railway track near 256/8 Kms towards Rangapahar. According to Police/PRO, all legal formalities were conducted and the cause
of dead was suspected to be run over by a moving train. The dead body was shifted to District Hospital Dimapur morgue for post-mortem examination/identification. Claimant/relatives/friends of the deceased have been requested to contact officer-in-charge, GRPS, Dimapur.

DIMAPUR: Expressed dismay on the slow progress on the ongoing road construction from L0-22 to Shishimi village under PMGSY, the Shishimi Village Council (SVC) has appealed to the concerned contractor to speed up the work by following the specifications as per the Detailed Project Report. In a press statement, the council chairman Kahoi Sangtam and head GB, Shitoi Sangtam claimed that despite repeated reminder to the concerned contractor to improve the progress of work by adding extra machinery, no extra machinery has been deployed. Instead, SVC alleged the contractor instead of using the machinery efficiently has engaged it in other individual construction purposes “for his personal gain”. In this regard, the council has appealed to the concerned authority to look into the matter at the earliest so as to ensure timely execution of work. The council further alleged that as per the RTI reply received from the office of the Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B), the work order has been issued on March 9, 2019, and even after two years, the first fresh cutting has not been completed. Therefore, SVC appealed to the concerned department to not release the remaining bill without proper completion of the first fresh cutting.

Born in the year 1914, Shri VANPVUTHUNG TSOPOE witnessed two world wars and the intense operation of Indian Army during the 1960s. Late VANPVUTHUNG TSOPOE was inducted to the village administration as Gaon Bura (GB) on 11 January 1969 and during his 50 years in service he was also appointed as Head GB from 2001-2019 and without any hindrances and hurdles with his gifted knowledge and wisdom, he retired in the year 2019. He also acted as conveyer from the officials to his fellow folks during that early day which was quite a job to handle with accuracy, truthfulness, diligence and above all loyalty. Late VANPVUTHUNG TSOPOE married at the age of 30 years and lived a happy married life with his late wife Rüpyum Tsopoe for 62 years till her demise on 6/1/2006. He lived up-to his ripe age of 107 years with 9 children, 41 grand children and 32 great grand children and left for his heavenly abode on February 17, 2021.

Assam assembly election dates announced Big test for ruling BJP lies ahead
GUWAHATI, FEB 26 (AGENCIES): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced the election dates for the Assam assembly polls. The Assam assembly election, owing to its impact on the entire Northeast, is likely going to be a big test for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP came to power in Assam for the first time after NDA won the 2016 Assam assembly election. In the first Assam polls since then, the ruling party has to beat anti-incumbency in the state, primarily on the account of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), to retain power. Of all the issues that the BJP has faced in Assam in the past five years, the CAA passed by the Parliament in 2019 has been the biggest sticking point for the party. A large section of people of As-
sam still opposes the new citizenship Act. The BJP has been trying to reach out to the people over the CAA, explaining that its ideological commitment is not against the interests of the cultural identity of the Assamese people. But the Opposition led by Congress, and several newly formed political outfits supported by students’ unions, have made the CAA the core poll issue. Apart from CAA, the BJP-led Assam government has failed to complete the National Register of Citizens (NRC) process. The BJP had promised that the NRC process would be completed to make Assam free from ‘infiltrators’. The BJP-led state government is also under the attack from the rival political parties over the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. The issue was one of the poll promises that made the BJP win in 2016. Price hike and unemployment Rising prices and lack
of jobs are other major challenges that the BJPled government faces in the upcoming Assam assembly election. While the BJP has claimed to have recruited maximum unemployed youths during the past five years, the Opposition parties and several other groups have targeted the Sarbananda Sonowal government over the price hike and unemployment. The Opposition parties have begun a campaign over the issues across the state ahead of the assembly polls in Assam. The Opposition is particularly making the rising prices of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders as election issues in Assam. New parties and fall of AGP New political formations have emerged in Assam ahead of the assembly polls. The ruling BJP has taken a new partner by leaving its older ally, Hagrama Mahilary-led Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Northeast/State Liquor to be cheaper in M’laya Correspondent Shillong, Feb 26: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Friday reduced the Value Added Tax (VAT) on various brands of liquor by bringing it down from 40 per cent to 37.5 per cent as well as do away with the 25 per cent lifting charges. Excise Minister Kyrmen Shylla said that the decision to reduce VAT would not affect the revenue generation, because the volume of sales would increase after the price of liquor has come down. He said that the revenue from excise during 2019-2020 was Rs 276 crore, and Rs 269 crore during 2020-2021 till January. “We hope the revenue will be more in this current financial year, than last year, because we have two months more - February and March,” Shylla said. On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the State will be losing annual revenue to the tune of Rs. 80 to Rs. 85 crores.
Manipur journalists resume strike after fresh threat Correspondent IMPHAL, FEB 26: Publication of newspapers and broadcasting of news by local cable networks will remain suspended indefinitely once again as journalists resumed their cease work strike on Friday even as the state government appealed to the state media not to resort to news blackout. They further asked to suspend publication for six months. AMWJU and EGM have condemned the threat strongly while resolving that the journalist fraternity of the state will fight together . A joint meeting of the
AMWJU and EGM convened on Thursday resolved to ask the group to provide detail of the charges they levelled before taking any action against the media house. While resolving to cease work by journalists indefinitely, the bodies set yet another 48-hour deadline to provide the detail of the charges from Friday at 6 am. Until the threat persists, publication of all newspapers will remain suspended. Local cable networks will also suspend broadcasting of news in their channels as resolved by the scribes’ bodies. The AMWJU and
the EGM have also expressed strong resentment over the non-arrest of the perpetrator(s) behind the recent bomb attack even after 10 days of expiry of the deadline it had set. On the other hand, authorities of the Manipur government today appealed to AMWJU, EGM and media houses not to resort to news blackout or shutdown of services in the interest of the general public. The appeals were made through the deputy commissioners of twin capital districts –Imphal West and Imphal East districts – while reacting to resolutions passed by a joint meeting of AMWJU and EGM.

Eastern Nagas have contributed immensely towards Naga struggle: Moba DIMAPUR: NSCN (I-M) member of the collective leadership and convener of the Eastern Naga National Workers Union (ENNWU), Moba Chang acknowledged and took pride in stating that the Eastern Nagas have contributed immensely towards the national struggle. “We unselfishly rescued many situations that spelled doom, not only once but many a times. We should continue to play this magnanimous role as more challenging tasks face us under the unfolding political scenario,” Moba said in his written speech handed out to the media to commemorate the silver jubilee of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO). He expressed regret for not attending the event due to unavoidable circumstances. In his speech, Moba went on to state that an “honorable and acceptable solution will be
with us if we learn to defend our God given political rights with courage and uprightness, and free ourselves from the oppressors.” He also highlighted about the relationship between the ENNWU and the ENPO. Recalling the formation of TMPO, followed by ENPO, Moba expressed gratitude to ENPO for the high level of integrity displayed throughout the tumultuous period of Naga political struggle. On the part of ENNWU, he said they had not let ENPO down but cooperated with throughout, sharing mutual understanding in every possible way. He said ENNWU was invited by ENPO on December 18, 2007 at Tuensang during which they happily obliged to agree with the resolution for maintaining peace and reconciliation without any territorial demarcation, adding that NSCN (I-M) was still committed to that spirit.
Stating that at that point of time there were only three groups-NSCN/ GPRN, NNC/FGN and NSCN-K. “It was our expectation that the meeting would be forthcoming to bring the three groups together in principle. But our positive response, desirous of securing unity among Naga political groups was cut short when multiple groups mushroomed, giving heavy burden to the public and created more confusion,” he added. Asserting that when Naga political situation was passing through a critical stage, Moba urged all not to be bedeviled by “our madness for leadership, position and wealth.” In conclusion, he called upon ENPO to show the way to other Nagas across Nagalim to salvage the Nag people’s political future and ensure that it was honorable and acceptable to all.

Goliath of national politics
P
olls to five states- Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry- have been scheduled by the Election Commission where the BJP will be leaving no stone unturned to either sweep most states or cobble up some coalition with regional parties. Polls in the southern states will be held in one phase(April 6) Kerala has 140 seats, Tamil Nadu has 234 seats and the union territory of Puducherry, currently under president’s rule ( where the Congress-led coalition was dislodged by BJP) has 30 seats and three nominated. Counting in all three southern states will begin on May 2,2021. Assam, with 126 assembly seats will have three-phase polls on March 27, April 1 and April 6 with counting on May 2. Former Congress strongman and presently BJP’s chief strategist and campaigner Dr.Himanta Biswa Sarma is leading the charge to ensure that the party will come to power on its own. He knows Assam politics like the back of his hand. Himanta will be hoping to replace present Assam chief minister Sarabananda Sonowal but that will depend on the BJP high command. The Congress after the death of three-time chief minister Tarun Gogoi faces a difficult period and appears to be without any popular leader. What was surprising was that West Bengal with 294 seats will have an 8-phased polls. Polling for the first phase will be held on March 27, second phase on April 1, third phase on April 6, fourth phase on April 10; fifth phase on April 17, Sixth phase on April 22, seventh phase on April 26 and eighth phase on April 29. Counting will be held on May 2. Except for Assam where BJP is ruling and Tamil Nadu an ally all other states have non-BJP governments. In Assam, the BJP heading an alliance with regional parties, is tipped to regain control but without having to use the coalition crutch. In Tamil Nadu, the BJP may ally with the ruling AIADMK and hopes to make a historic foray into this south Dravidian bastion. The DMK which is tipped to win Tamil Nadu will have to do more than live on expectations since it faces an extremely determined BJP which has awesome resources. The role of Sasikala ‘Chinamma’ (Mother’s younger sister in Tamil) in the election will be watched closely. Sasikala was removed from the AIADMK by her own coterie led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami whom she chose as chief minister while being sent to prison. In Kerala, the Left Front is no friend of the BJP and neither is the Congress led UDF. Both LDF and UDF are contenders and the BJP is hoping to win some seats where it has no presence. In Puducherry, the BJP which had no elected member in the assembly now has more than a dozen defectors from Congress and DMK. The BJP will do everything to reflect its shored up numbers in the dissolved house. However, the battle royal is expected to be in West Bengal where the BJP is the main and sole opposition to the Trinamool party which has ruled the state since 2011 for two consecutive terms. The BJP is presently the only national party on the election scene and its goal for one party, one India will be decided by the voters.

Each of us thinks this about Jesus in one area of our life or another. These doubts or misgivings about Jesus begin as we consider questions that divert our focus away from God. While we talk of our dealings with Him, others ask us, “Where are you going to get enough money to live? How will you live and who will take care of you?” Or our misgivings begin within ourselves when we tell Jesus that our circumstances are just a little too difficult for Him. We say, “It’s easy to say, ‘Trust in the Lord,’ but a person has to live; and besides, Jesus has nothing with which to draw water— no means to be able to give us these things.” And beware of exhibiting religious deceit by saying, “Oh, I have no misgivings about Jesus, only misgivings about myself.” If we are honest, we will admit that we never have misgivings or doubts about ourselves, because we know exactly what we are capable or incapable of doing. But we do have misgivings about Jesus. And our pride is hurt even at the thought that He can do what we can’t. My misgivings arise from the fact that I search within to find how He will do what He says. My doubts spring from the depths of my own inferiority. If I detect these misgivings in myself, I should bring them into the light and confess them openly— “Lord, I have had misgivings about You. I have not believed in Your abilities, but only my own. Stress hits the bottom line – in more ways than you think T here is this riddle among children. A ship is anchored in a harbour where the tide recedes one foot every hour. The ship’s ladder, which leads into the water, has rungs that are a foot apart. How many hours would it take for the water to drop three rungs of the ladder as the tide lowers? The intuitive answer would be three hours — but it’s wrong. When the tide recedes, the ship lowers with it and the rungs of the ladder remain same in relation to the water. If one were to use the ladder’s rungs as a benchmark, they would miss the fact that the ship has come down by several feet. The pandemic has affected each of us to varying degrees. A year of isolation, unnatural and cramped confinement, loss of social interaction, death of loved ones, loss of jobs, uncertainty about the future and several similar concerns are taking a heavy toll on each of us, but because the “ladder” remains where it is, most corporate leaders are unaware of the magnitude of the crisis facing their teams
and organisations. Mental health, specifically depression, was already a gargantuan crisis well before Covid-19. The World Health Organization had predicted depression to be largest global health burden by 2030 — ahead of heart diseases or cancer. They were wrong in their estimate by almost 10 years. Depression is now the leading medical burden in the world. By extension, it is also the leading cause of corporate inefficiency and yet remains unaddressed for several reasons. First, mental health is a taboo in most societies and definitely pariah status in corporates, which idealises the strong, stoic leader. Stress, anxiety and depression are viewed as weaknesses and anyone professing them is more likely to be eased out of the organisation than to be helped out. Second, most leaders don’t understand the construct of mental health. The statistic that one in five Indians is undergoing some form of stress hides the fact that, this “one in five” is a round robin that affects each one
of those five at some point, with varying degrees of damage. Most impor tantly, while corporates use sophisticated tools for measuring physical presence and shallow work of their employees, they don’t meaningfully gauge their creative engagement or commitment to the organisation and colleagues. It is ironic that organisations, which schedule downtime for maintenance of their plant equipment to preserve their efficacy, believe that their personnel can continue to function effectively without any mental and emotional care. Consider these paradoxes. Wo r k i n g f r o m cramped, underresourced environment of their homes with little or no contact with teammates, for longer hours, without the relief of social friends and yet being expected to deliver the same quality of work as before, is an unrealistic ask — yet the norm among corporates. Several indicators of social stability such as divorce rates, broken relationships, suicides (especially among the young),

he Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India (MeitY), led by Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, has announced the proposed Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code. The guidelines will cover social networks, digital media companies, and OTT platforms while making the nation’s sovereign stance clear on matters of ethics and the protection of freedom of expression of creators, publishers, and digital platform companies, and balancing the questions of accountability and grievance redressal that are posed by the citizens of the country. At a time when governments across the world are faced with difficult questions on how to balance these many important principles in their respective democracies, the ministry’s announcement reveals an approach that is aligned with the thinking of today without imposing unreasonable boundaries on the innovation and expression that must continue to lead the country into the future. With this refreshing lighttouch and empowering approach, the guidelines are clearly designed to carefully balance the many priorities and contexts of all stakeholders of these ecosystems while ensuring that the rule of law can be enforced objectively and in full alignment with the Constitution. With this move, India continues to deepen its position as a leader in digital policy and technological innovation. India’s startup ecosystem is the third-largest in the world, only behind the US and China. The country is home to over 50,000 startups, with between $11-14 billion in startup funding being invested every year. With over 700 million internet users and half a billion social network users, India is also amongst the largest open digital markets on the planet. Even China, with its larger digital population, has not emulated India’s commitment to supporting a fair and open local market for global companies across industry segments, especially those that are digital. These guidelines have been
intentionally designed so that India’s next-gen digital media innovators can propel the acceleration of value generation and inclusive empowerment of their local users, while global companies that have large user bases in the country can also align with a common framework that protects creators and consumers alike. Citizens will welcome the GOI’s move and corporates and startups will respond with overwhelming support to this balanced framework. MeitY’s collaborative approach to the drafting of these guidelines ensured an inclusive framework that has embraced the concerns of citizens, protects the freedom of speech and expression of creators, encourages the many regional language communities and applications that are essential for the freedom of expression of every Indian citizen while adding minimal friction or disincentives for the continued growth of the country’s digital ecosystems. This approach also sends a clear message that the GOI has prioritised the interests of its most vulnerable citizens. The proposal has clearly-defined grievance redressal mechanisms that empower every social and digital media intermediary to self-enforce effective mechanisms to address complaints from users. With a special focus on protecting the online safety and dignity of users, especially women, the guidelines have prioritised affirmative addressal of the most serious issues that have affected India’s digital population. They also ensure that the digital platform companies are empowered to report the first originator of the grievance-causing information, thus ensuring that liability is limited while the country’s laws can be fully and effectively enforced on the actual perpetrators. waiting to exhale. A large percentage of the employees are running on fumes. And corporates will pay a heavy price if they don’t see this clear and present danger. A common refrain heard these days is “taking life day by day”. This innocuous statement conceals the ominous danger looming ahead. Taking life one day at a time might be good pop psychology advice, but it also indicates the loss of agency over a horizon. Imagine the implications to a corporate if their head of strategy, or any other strategic leader for that matter, chooses the mindset of living one day at a time. Or the implications for industries such as insurance, research, infrastructure projects or specialisation studies if the current or potential workforce start thinking in such temporal terms. Or the implication for policies such as climate. The financial damage potential of anxiety is huge. This is an opportunity for corporates to accord the same importance to mental well-being, as they
do for the physical safety, of their employees. Over recent decades, corporates have come a long way in terms of workplace safety because they realised the revenue and reputational costs. We need to create a similar environment when it comes to mental health. Focus on mental health is not some charitable feelgood initiative. It must be done with a hard eye on the financial performance of companies. Laptops in place of desktops, smartphone allowances, flexible hours of working and work from home were all instituted for their financial returns than merely employee convenience. Similarly, organisations must embark on rebuilding good mental health and morale through a programme as systematic and rigorous as it would for any of its organisational improvement initiatives. India asks China to resolve boundary issues LVC submits memorandum to Dr. Vardhan
NEW DELHI, FEB 26 (IANS): The government said on Friday that following the disengagement of Indian and Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, it is not in the interest of either side to prolong the remaining boundary issues between the two countries. The statement came a day after External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and China’s State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a conversation over phone that lasted for 75 minutes. The Indian Foreign Minister told his Chinese counterpart that “a prolongation of the existing situation was not in the interest of either side. It was, therefore, necessary that the two sides should work towards early resolution of remaining issues”, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday. It is necessary to disengage at all friction points

He noted that the two sides had maintained continuous communication since then through both diplomatic and military channels. This had led to progress as both sides had successfully disengaged in the Pangong Tso Lake area earlier this month. Noting the completion of disengagement in the Pangong Lake area, Jaishankar emphasised that both sides should now quickly resolve the remaining issues along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh. He said that once disengagement is completed at all friction points, the two sides could also look at broader de-escalation of troops in the area and work towards restoration of peace and tranquillity. The MEA statement
said that Wang Yi, on his part, expressed satisfaction at the progress made so far. He felt that it was an important step forward for restoration of peace and tranquillity in the border areas. He also conveyed that it was is necessary to sincerely implement the common understanding reached at various levels. The Chinese Foreign Minister said that both sides should make efforts to consolidate the outcomes. He also spoke about the need to improve management and control in the border areas. Fo r e i g n M i n i s t e r Wang Yi also noted that the Indian side had proposed ‘three mutuals’ (mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest) as the approach to the relationship. He also agreed on the importance of taking the long view of India-China ties. The two ministers agreed to remain in touch and establish a hotline.

NEW DELHI, FEB 26 (IANS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday said that it has filled a supplementary chargesheet against a Gujarat-based resident RajakbhaiKumbhar, who worked as an ISI agent, in connection with its probe into the espionage case of Uttar Pradesh. An NIA official said that a supplementary chargesheet against Kumbhar was filed under several sections of the IPC and the UA(P) Act. The official said that Kumbhar was arrested on September 30, last year and during investigation it was revealed that he had visited Pakistan twice on legal documents. “During his return in the course of second visit, Kumbhar had come in contact with Pakistani ISI operatives Hamid aka Asim and Mohammad Rashid and joined the conspiracy. He transferred funds to accused for the information he had provided to the ISI operatives in Pakistan,” the official said.

Beijing, Feb 26 (PTI): China on Friday welcomed I n d i a s u p p ly i n g m o r e COVID-19 vaccines to a number of countries, playing down reports that New Delhi has beaten Beijing in its vaccine diplomacy around the world. Responding to a question on a report that India has beaten China in its own game of vaccine diplomacy, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin during a media briefing said, “We welcome that and hope to see more countries taking actions to provide vaccines to the world, especially developing countries, to help with the global response.” “China has been overcoming domestic difficulties to provide vaccines to other countries in concrete measure,” he said, flagging China’s own vaccine requirement to inoculate its 1.4 billion population. He reiterated that China has been providing vaccines to 53 countries and exporting vaccines to 27 countries, amid reports that many of those countries are yet to receive Chinese vaccines or the promised quantities. Abubakar Dauran, Zamfara State Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, who confirmed the information to reporters in the state capital of Gusau, said the gunmen abducted the female students of the Government Girls’ Secondary School (GGSS) at Jangebe town in the Talata Mafara local government area of the state, Xinhua reported.
