Pulawama terror cell hit 3 JeM terrorists, 5 securitymen dead; DIG, Brig. among injured SRINAGAR, FEB 18 (PTI): Three JeM terrorists, including two top commanders believed to be behind the Pulwama terror attack, were killed in a fierce 16-hour encounter, in which an Army major and four security forces personnel lost their lives in south Kashmir on Monday. A civilian died in crossfire during the gun battle in Pinglan area of Pulwama district, 12 km from the spot of February 14 attack on CRPF personnel which claimed the lives of 40 jawans, officials said. DIG of Police (South Kashmir) Amit Kumar, a Brigadier, a Lt. Colonel, a Major and four other ranks of Army unit which carried out the operation suffered injuries, they said. Two of the slain terrorists were identified as Kamran and Abdul Rasheed alias Ghazi. The third one was Hilal, a resident of Pinglena in Pulwama, they said.

In a press release, NPCC president K Therie said people have understood the “ill-conceived idea” which was with intent to submerge the identity of indigenous inhabitants of North East. “CAB is with intent to grant citizenship to illegal immigrants and to counter NRC,” Therie said, adding that all likeminded political parties and political leaders of North East must rise above political boundaries to defend the region from the draconian law. “It’s time we realign to defend the land that is made for you and for me. Personal ambition should not stand on the way against the interests of the NE,” NPCC president said.

No corruption in Rafale deal: Athawale

DIMAPUR/BOKAJAN, FEB 18 (NPN): The halfday shutters down protest called by various trade bodies across the state, under the banner of Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce as part of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) bharat bandh on Monday passed off peacefully. The bandh was called to protest against the terror attack on security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, Meanwhile, in Khatkhati a group of agitated protestors blocked the NH39 along Assam-Nagaland border disrupting vehicular movement. According to reports, the protesters also barred all public transport including autorickshaws from plying on the highway. When the protestors turned violent, security personnel were compelled to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the agitated crowd. It may be mentioned that various trade bodies of Nagaland-- CNCC, DCCI, EDBA, MCCI and others observed half-day shutters down to express solidarity with the nation and the families of the CRPF personnel killed in Pulwama.

KOHIMA, FEB 18 (NPN): Dismissing allegations by Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Union minister of state for Social Justice & Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale said there was no corruption in Rafale deal, adding that even Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report had clearly pointed out that there was no corruption. Claiming that the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was

clean, he also asserted that people would vote Modi back as Prime Minister, adding the NDA would form the government again. The minister said this during his maiden visit to Nagaland. He was scheduled to visit Mon for distribution of assisted devices and appliances for empowerment of persons with disabilities and to senior citizens under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana. However, due to inclement weather, his chopper could not land at Mon and had to return to the State Capital. Addressing media persons at Raj Bhavan here Monday evening, Athawale said 600 wheel chairs were distributed to persons with physically disabilities in his absence in Mon. He told reporters that there were more than two crore persons with disabilities in the country and claimed that the NDA government was fully supporting the dis-

abled people. Athawale said the Central government had announced a hike of old-age pension from Rs 300 to Rs 3,000 in the 2019-20 Union Budget. He also informed that the Parliament had passed a Bill enhancing their reservation to 4% and 5% in educational sector. On the issue of realignment of political parties, Athawale remarked that the coming together of Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati for the Lok Sabha polls would not be much effective, adding that Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into politics would be more beneficial for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh than the Congress. In Maharashtra, Athawale said BJP and Shiv Sena would form an alliance, to which his RPI would extend support and hoped the coalition would win 42 to 43 of the 48 seats.

NACO support needed to implement HIV and AIDS, Bill 2017: Pangnyu

SSU, SVC object to Tizu valley hydro project DIMAPUR, FEB 18 (NPN): Sohomi students’ union (SSU) and Sohomi village council (SVC), Phek have expressed strong opposition to the proposed Tizu valley hydro project, saying there were “certain procedural lapses”. In a press release, SSU president Mudotso and general secretary Divito said that the public of Sohomi had come to know about the feasibility survey on the proposed site of Tizu valley hydro project only through local daily on October 7, 2018, adding that Sohomi village has been entirely left aside despite being the owner of the land. SSU stated no other villages have land rights concerning the area where the project was to be set up except Lozaphuhu village as major portion of the land falls under the jurisdiction of Sohomi village. SSU said the people concerned have, however, failed to consult the rightful landowner for carrying out such a major developmental activity in their land. According to the union, the people of Sohomi have expressed apprehension that such “ignorant act on the part of the people concerned” would adversely affect the future of the village if the project was initiated under such circumstance without dealing with the rightful landowner. Therefore, SSU along with SVC on behalf of the public of Sohomi have requested the responsible department to discontinue the project for the larger interest of the public of Sohomi.

A flagship initiative of the Government of India, Startup India is intended to build a strong eco-system to nurture innovation and startups in the country to drive sustainable economic growth and generate large-scale employment opportunities. A Startup India mobile van was also launched that will travel across the State, to gather and record ideas. ANTA Hq offers unconditional apology to LYO DIMAPUR, FEB 18 (NPN): All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) Hqs. Kohima has extended “unconditional apology” to the Lhisemia Youth Organisation (LYO) for the inadvertent statement addressed to Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) and the erroneous statement that appeared in sections of the local daily. In a press note, ANTA president Vibasetuo Solo stated that the events leading to the lightning strike of local taxis stationed at Pezieliecie (Teen Patti) and Peraciezie (High School) were misleading and without substance. In this regard, ANTA Kohima HQ has sought the wisest wisdom of LYO to accept their apology against the mentioned inadvertent statement and the erroneous press statement published. Further, ANTA also appreciated KVYO for the timely and mature intervention to settle the imbroglio amicably. Feb 23 and Mar 23 declared working days

DIMAPUR, FEB 18 (NPN): Nagaland government has declared February 23, 2019 (fourth Saturday) and March 23, 2019 (fourth Saturday) as working days in view of Budget Session and Financial Year closing respectively for offices located in Kohima while April 20, 2019 has been declared holiday.
