Staff reporter DIMAPUR, FEB 11 (NPN): National Horticulture Board (NHB) organised an awareness programme-cum-capacity building workshop at State Horticulture Nursery (SHN) Green Park on Tuesday.

While addressing the farmers and self-help groups, Imrongtemsu, joint director, SHN maintained that Nagaland has a plethora of resources and Nagas should use these to their full potential. He also said that most of the people do it for home consumption but what was even more important was farming for business.

Further, he thanked resource person, Navanita Baruah Mahanta, senior horticulture officer, NHB Guwahati for visiting the farmers and SHGs and hoped that what she addresses would be informative to the people.

During her scheme presentation, Navanita informed that the main objective of commercial horticulture was to help educate the local people that they can go beyond kitchen gardening and be commercialised as well because new technologies are being adapted to make lives easier.

While talking about NHB, Navanita informed that they give a subsidy and their project is creditlinked. “For Northeast region, the maximum ceiling limit is 37.5 lacs. You can come up with integrated post harvesting management project like ripening chamber, refer banks, retail outlet, pre-processing like jam, pickles etc.” she added.

Navanita also talked about schemes like the development of commercial horticulture, where the requirements were development in open field conditions including components for planting materials, plantation, irrigation, etc and the cost norms were up to 75 lacs.

While talking about her experiences with commercialising organic NaResource person with officers of Horticulture department and others. She stressed on the importance of practicing good agriculture practices and added that the locals should have an understanding of the right minerals and requirements for certain plants.

“To make your project eligible under NHB schemes, you have to approach your village council, where he will give you a land possession certificate (LPC), and once you get the LPC, you need to have it authenticated by your land revenue department. With that application you have to upload the detail project report (DPR) of the very project you are setting up”, Navanita said while talking about acquiring an area for farming and plantation.

Further, she maintained that Nagaland was abundant in soil, minerals, good climate and that the locals should get most out of these resources.

DIMAPUR: Kohima Smart City (KSC) in an effort to reach all citizens to participate in the citizens’ perception has reached out to the street vendors conveying that every opinion was valuable and important.

A press release from KSC Development Limited CEO, Kovi Meyase stated that, KSC in collaboration with the Green Team Kohima was reaching out to the street vendors as citizen’s opinions were important and integral towards holistic urban planning for any city.

Volunteers sat with the street vendors and helped them participate in the online survey by explaining the questions and options. It was reported that the street vendors participated and thanked the volunteers for approaching them.

KSC also intends to reach out to the senior citizens, daily wage laborers, construction workers and the population that are not IT savvy in the days ahead through the EOLI volunteers.

The Ease of Living Index awareness posters are coming up in all the wards and commercial areas including the banks and post office for awareness creation on the survey.

DIMAPUR: Indian Delegates of the 3rd Iris programme, 2020 underwent a vigorous training “Youth Invitation Programme”, hosted by Embassy of Japan, held in central parts of Tokyo and Nagasaki from February 1 to 8.

Altogether, 287 patients underwent blood screening for HIV, scrub typhus, MP, HB, urine for sugar and albumen and pregnancy tests were carried out at the health camp.

DIMAPUR: A fiveday special phase for NISHTHA training of elementary teachers and head teachers under the aegis of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland got underway at Pungro town, Kiphire district on February 11 and will culminate on 15.

A press release from Samagra Shiksha Pungro stated that, in the introductory session Nuhuta Tunyi, EAC Pungro exhorted the teachers that quality teaching was essential for quality education. While recalling the low quality index, he urged the teachers to take the training programme seriously and improve the learning outcome at schools. He stated that the practice of keeping proxy teachers was one of the biggest menace to education and appealed to teachers not to indulge in proxy. He stated the government schools have the most qualified teachers but the performance of students’ show poor result as quality of education was dependent upon the commitment of teachers to their jobs.

Kelhikha Kenye, assistant mission director Samagra Shiksha who is coordinating NISHTHA training programme gave keynote address. He informed the teachers that Pungro was the only education block for which special NISHTHA training was organised. He reminded the teachers that the School Education department, Samagra Shiksha and SCERT were jointly organising this programme totally committed to ensure that not a single elementary teachers were left behind in this mega training exercise. He also informed the teachers that 7250 teachers have been covered in Nagaland in the first two phases.

Pradipty Bhardwaj, an environmental lawyer for WCS India, introduced to the participants about wildlife crimes and gave an overview about The Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

Bano Haralu, managing trustee of Nagaland Biodiversity and Conservation Trust exhorted the participants by telling them to protect forest and wildlife as soldiers are protecting our country.

Earlier, invocation prayer was offered by Thampha Konyak in the programme chaired by Florence Sangtam, assistant director and vote of thanks was proposed by Sosinle Magh. Around 120 persons, namely students, frontline staff from the Forest department and forest fringe communities. Nature conservation quotes and book marks were distributed to participants.

NCC CATC-113 concludes in Kohima

DIMAPUR: Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC)-113 of 24 Nagaland (I) Coy NCC concluded at IG Stadium Kohima on February 10.

A press release from Col Daniel Lotzem commanding officer 24 Nagaland (I) Coy NCC Kohima stated that, a total of 460 cadets which included 324 boy cadets and 136 girl cadets coming from all districts of Nagaland attended the above camp.

During the ten-day training, the cadets were made to undergo physical training, drill, weapon training and expose to firing practice.

Cadets also underwent important subjects in the form of lecture and demonstration such as Cadets undergoing physical training during the camp.
